You are Sonia Reynard, Viscount of Rioja! You Command the forces of House Jerik-Dremine in the DRH1 Relay.

Together with the local allied fleets of the Run Alliance, the Ruling House, Ber'helum, Helios and even Kharbos, you are now locked in battle with your opponents in the Dominion's Civil War.

House Nasidun, Bonrah, Xygen and forces from their own vassal Houses are fighting a battle that has increasingly turned against them. Your side has destroyed their sole Veckron torpedo cruiser and sown confusion among their ranks by disrupting their fleet IFF's.

Knight Commander Myrish Avun and most forces from house Sulos have changed sides bringing with them a small but powerful force of Assault Corvettes and a new Heavy Carrier.

Sections of the Nasidum fleet have routed and are attempting to flee the artificial gravity well, but others remain organised.

At present it looks like two of the faster enemy heavy cruisers, the experimental designs, have formed up and are beginning a run around Avoubic. They may be planning a strike at the array or gravity well.

Your Siege Array has 2 Heavy Cruisers acting as escort as well as providing shield protection with additional platforms. The Gravity well is defended by a small force currently lacking much in the way of firepower.

The Mobile Fortress is dropping into an increasingly low orbit of Avoubic after several asteroid missile impacts. Despite this it's still trading fire with your Supers.

A Heavy Carrier and escort somewhat near to you are forming up and appear to be conducting a fighting retreat.

Heavy cruiser that was badly damaged is still limping away but increasing speed. Earl Tarse-enic has ordered everyone to ignore it since it will be a strain on enemy logistics but you could still have Kim attack it.

Count Nirium is already in favour of deactivating the gravity well generator and will do so unless you make your intentions for it clear.
A and B were tied at the end of last thread. If vote is not clearly in favour of a particular option Nirium will veto it.
While the Count may have veto power over certain elements of the operation using them will probably annoy you/your allies so they've tried to avoid it. Ruling House has to play politics because of weak position.

Do you want the Gravity well to cut and run, or will you rely on the Array to scare off the Heavy Cruisers? Or a little of both?

>>

They can but Arron informs you that they won't have a good chance of succeeding until the formation breaks free of the main Melee.
"We probably only have enough warheads to damage one of them. They do have older anti-torpedo armour."
>>
>>49188124
C) Gravity well turns off. Array shoots at pair of Heavies

What I think is happening is the two Heavies will be trying to distract us while the Fortress tries to get slip away, but if we can take them out quick enough the Array might still be able to fire before the Fortress can begin its accent again. All we need is a good shot at the Fortress.
>>
>>49188124
As long as the Mobile Fortress is taken out I think we can cut our casualties short here without jeopardizing the defence.
So, I'll vote A. unless somebody can tell me I'm being retarded.
>A) Gravity well turns off. Array continues orbit
>>
>>49188124
B) Gravity well stayed on. Array shoots at pair of Heavies
>>
>A) Gravity well turns off. Array continues orbit

You suggest that the gravity well be deactivated while the array continues it's orbit. The extra firepower should help down additional enemy ships or force their surrender.

There should be enough time to bleed off the singularity and jump before the heavy cruisers can reach the generator.

"Arron get your friends and set up to hit the engines on one of those heavy cruisers. Signal me when you're in position. If it's too dangerous let me know."

"Copy that."

You and Avun's fleet are still a third of the way across the battlefield from those Heavy Cruisers but this new model of Heavy Carrier might be faster than the older types like the Senate Class.
"Do you think we could catch them if we moved now?"

The Knight Commander considers it.
"My ships and yours are fast. It might be possible as long as nothing in the way slowed us down."

The Mobile Fortress is also in that direction but it looks like the two Super Heavies and Avoubic's surface defenses are holding.

In nearly the opposite direction is another Talos Heavy Carrier you've had your eye on. Their fighting retreat may hold back enough of your allies near them to allow nearby enemies to rally.

Vanderwal and Tama seem to be arguing about something until the Admiral tells the paroled spy to talk to you about it.

"However this turns out we'll have lot a lot of ships today."
"Get to the point." you tell him.
"Our current group would probably be able to force the surrender of some routed enemies netting us lots of salvage in better condition."

You note that it would also neglect the more dangerous heavy ships leaving them for your allies to tackle.
Vanderwal shrugs. "So it's a little selfish."

B) After the two faster Heavy Cruisers
The fortress won't get far, its fat ass, damage, and losing most of its escort mean it will be easy to pursue in the long run. The carrier's tempting but the two heavy cruisers seem both more valuable strategically and in $$ at this point.
>>
>>49189286
>A

I think we should make sure the fortress is taken out. However, that doesn't mean Avun can't take the carrier and ships that won't do well close to the fortress to bully weak enemy groups into surrendering.

D) Target Routed enemies. Try to force their surrender

Man let's look out for us for once.

Except that I do want the OH to perform a ramming run on the fast Heavy Cruiser that is weak to that.

But yeah. As badly as I want that fortress . . . I don't want to make the mistake of going for the Distraction Carnifex l.
>>

>Except that I do want the OH to perform a ramming run on the fast Heavy Cruiser that is weak to that.
There are no fast heavy cruisers that are specifically weak against ramming. Or at least not from a Medium Cruiser.

I believe it highly likely you are confusing the reports about the Republic Pilum class attack cruisers that were decommissioned.
http://houseanddominion.wikia.com/wiki/Pilum_Class

If not please tell me which one you're talking about.
The Ceres/Bonrah Carrier?

In any case, the the Outer Heaven's bow has suffered some damage as a result of ramming since parts of the prow were modified to add torpedo launchers. Two launchers are damaged and while the OH is still ready for battle additional ramming would not be advised until repairs are completed.
>>
>>49189833
Just to clarify, is that what they have left, or does that not include the losses we've inflicted on them
>>

>D) Target Routed enemies. Try to force their surrender

I wouldn't mind trying to secure some salvage if possible.
>>
>>49189833
I AM confusing them with the Pilum.

That's on me.

Nevermind. Salvage for us then and let our allies take some hits.
>>
>>49189833
I'll be honest, while it damaged the launchers the ramming was the highlight of this whole battle, at least from an action/writeup perspective. On the strategic/tactical scale crushing our foes as they gaze with despair upon our naval savagery and ruining their aspirations for victory is wonderful. On a completely unrelated note can Sonia do a good crazed axemurder laugh or is her laugh just regular?
>>
>>49189667
>is it possible to energize the ramming prow like a SP torpedo thus allowing for shield piercing ram attacks and more importantly shield piercing boarding pods?
If the ramming prow were made of the same casings that SP Torpedoes are, then yes it would be possible.

Unfortunately the parts of your ship not encased in the material would take collision damage from the shield and probably be ripped off.

The Kavarian Imperium makes use of a special torpedo design you've encountered that takes advantage of this. A spar with metal flaps is attached to the back of the warhead. After it pierces the shield the flaps deploy catching on the shield to halt the device. It stays in contact with the shield long enough to determine its frequency so that other ships can tune phase cannons to pass through them.

This trick doesn't work well against modern shields, but was great against the SRL Warlords.

>>49190009
Those were all of the Heavy Warships they started with not counting the Fort and 3 Megas.

>>49190170
>can Sonia do a good crazed axemurder laugh or is her laugh just regular?
She can probably belt one out.
>>
"Set course for the two Heavy Cruisers. I want us to be nearby if anything happens with the gravity well generator."

Most of the group changes course while repair scarabs finish detaching the smashed Razor battlecruiser from the bow of your command ship. Once it is drifting free the helmsman brings the Outer Heaven about and increases engine power, quickly catching up.

Armored shutters on the outboard sections of the Heavy Carrier retract revealing what look to be powerful maneuvering thrusters.
"I love the Talos Heavy Carrier but it almost has too many upgrade options." Avun tells you as the drives power up.

"My advisors wanted me to add more sensor arrays or light siege weapons to the outboard pods since the extra engines reduce our endurance. Those wouldn't keep my ship alive if one of your guys jumped me with a Heavy Cruiser."

It's clear even to you that the carrier must be close to redlining its engines as your group begins to fight your way towards the Heavy Cruisers. Soon you're building up enough momentum that most enemies are reluctant to get in your way.

"Incoming assault corvette formation." reports sensors

"Watch it, they'll either try to get in close to our bigger ships or force us to slow down." warns Avun.

You get a super-tough armor plate that also acts as Reactive armor that vaporises anything that penetrates the plate thanks to the massive current running through it.

>>
"Keep pushing through, we need to reach those cruisers." you tell your group. "Coms see if you can raise some of the nearby allied units in the area to intercept the assault corvettes."

Two regular line units and two elite assault corvette teams respond to the hail and change course to intercept the ships targeting you. This is enough to cause most of the enemy to break off but a few squadrons continue to follow. They skirt the edges of the fighting and follow in your wake.

"Helm, put us between the incoming ships and the carrier."
"Aye sir!"

The Outer Heaven shifts course, swinging behind the Heavy Carrier close enough that you worry about hitting their engine wash. Gunners on your ship and the escorts open fire on the incoming assault corvettes.

Most of them are nimble enough to evade the heavier phase cannon and plasma fire but the occasional one gets through. Even then they're able to shrug off anything less than a direct hit. Your Neeran plasma weapons take down one corvette while a lightning gun shot kills one and damages two more. That certainly shakes up their formation.

"Now they know who they're dealing with."

It's not long before you become a target for pretty much all of them. Any stray fire is directed your way in an attempt to batter down your shields. Your battlecruisers and other escorts take full advantage, setting up additional fire lanes in an attempt to get enemy corvettes to fly into kill zones. While it does knock out a few ships it's not as effective as you would have hoped.

Even when they manage to batter down your mains the secondary shields hold fast.

An attempt to flank around your heavier assets forces Avun's crew to once again close the protective bay shutters. Several of her corvettes are knocked out trying to help provide cover but the remainder are able to drive the enemy off. That or push them back for your ships to take care of.

After losing a full squadron and part of a second the enemy ships break off after a few parting shots. Two of of the Sulos corvette Squadrons need to dock for repairs.

You're closing in on Avoubic. The Heavy Cruisers you're after are still well ahead but you've built up enough speed that you'll be able to catch them just before they reach the Grav well generator.

The artificial well is starting to get smaller now but it's still too soon for enemy ships near the edge to jump just yet.

Maybourne flips through a few status reports then quickly checks sensor readouts.
"What the hell is the Fortress doing?"

You check as well and see that the bulky ship has started a hard turn. One that's happening much faster than you would have expected.

"Sensors what's happening with the fortress?"

"They've locked tractor beams on Avoubic and are using them to come about more quickly. They're basically pulling a handbrake turn."

The bow of the Fortress swings around bring its main guns to bear on the trailing side of Avoubic, unloading into the planetoids shields at point blank. Their orbit is so low now that the defenders have had to lower shields in some places. Some of the weapons fire is getting through to damaged the surface weapons.

"They're damaging the shields but not destroying them." reports sensors.

Tama looks up from his console. "Additional enemy ground troops have been detected on the surface. They're trying to capture the trailing side shield generators."

You catch part of a broadcast from Count Nirium ordering the surface defenders to detonate landmines surrounding the trailing side entrance.
"Us as many as you need but protect those shield generators."

Even through the shields you can see the nukes go off. Roughly ten square kilometers of the surface outside the defenses lights up.

The Fortress continues its turn, bringing the main guns to bear on the Forbearance and Bellamy. Some of the weapons are still aiming poorly or not at all as a result of sabotage, but they're still able to inflict damage on escorts.

>Cont.
>>
Then there are two bright flashes of shields overloading and the Fort's orbit all but slams to a halt.

You look to your crew. "What just happened?"

"They're hit the planetary shields." answers Adel.
"Twice." adds Maybourne. "The main shield grid on this side of Avoubic just blew itself out but they still have the backups, the original shields."

Sensor data starts to come in which shows that the forward shields on the Fortress are still up, as are those from the remaining escorts and platforms. Half of the Forts sublight engines and a good chunk of its aft sections have been completely smashed.

It seems the impact killed most of their velocity and their orbit is rapidly deteriorating.

"Can they raise their aft shields?"

"Not completely. There's going to be a gap, and if they pull any shield platforms away from the front our Supers will start getting shots through."

The gravity well generator should still be able to jump before those Heavy Cruiser can reach them.

"Arron target the Chining with your torpedoes."

Neither of the cloaked ships responds over coms, not wanting to further give away their position.

Arron fires off more than a dozen torpedoes, while his wingman only manages to get off ten before both are forced to break off due to weapons fire. The Heavy Cruisers and their escorts fill space behind them with phase cannon fire walking the shots outwards from were the torpedoes came from.

A few of the enemy escorts launch interceptor missiles but they have trouble targeting the warheads equipped with stealth coatings. You idly wonder if Aries had done that intentionally.

Several of the SP's detonate on the ships heavy armor, others slightly deeper inside their aft sections. Six of them penetrate parts of the sublight drives causing serious damage and at least one secondary explosion.

"Damage to starboard drive sections of Chining class. No signs that either of our Nocturn class ships were hit."

You give it a few seconds more before ordering your side to open up on the Heavies. Avun's assault corvettes and any of your own fast ships streak out ahead trying to close the distance more quickly.

Neither of the heavy cruisers medium plasma cannons are of Republic manufacture. Their range is the same as yours on the Outer Heaven. The rear light cannons on the Boli are however and their gunners prove to be good shots.

"Gravity well is down. Generator ship is preparing to jump to FTL."

It looks like the damaged Heavy Cruiser is falling behind though a trio of battleships have dropped back in an attempt to give enough of a speed boost to let it jump. The twin LD plasma cannon turrets on the Chining are still extremely dangerous to any of your ships that get near it. That may be necessary to inflict damage on the rest of the enemy group targeting the gravity well.

The well's escorts still claim they can protect it long enough to jump.

"You heard the lady, smoke em if you got em."

Assault corvettes split by squadrons and pour on the speed. The few afterburner equipped ships you have nearby do the same.

Despite being a newer ship Avun's light siege cannons prove to be about as useful in this situation as the ones your Deci class ships. With their low rate of fire they're unable to contribute significantly to damage dealt to the nearest Heavy cruiser, though you suppose every little bit helps.

The assault corvettes and your other fast ships are able to get past without too much difficulty, evading LD plasma and heavy phase cannon fire.

They've barely made it past before they're engaged by enemy escorts. Your people respond with SP weapons, blasting through several of them to continue on. Some of Avun's people do the same, but not all of them have many SP's left.

The Outer Heaven and your remaining Battleships and Battlecruisers launch their SP's at the trailing Heavy. With the gravity well down they quickly change priority to trying to make a micro jump out for repairs.

"Torpedo volley away. Enemy is launching interceptor missiles and starfighters."

The helm puts the OH through a barrel roll and several other wild maneuvers to evade incoming plasma cannon fire. Whever shots do hit you impact on the reinforced forward shield. The gunnery crews are not at all appreciative but you tell Kaz to either stow it or find a way to knock out the enemy weapons.

Twenty or more of your SP's are taken out but enough get through to disable the aft plasma weapons and enough of the remaining sublight drives to prevent it from jumping. Two of the battleships abandon their towing attempts and flee, while the third one is largely disabled after being hit by a newer model torpedo.

"It's still not completely crippled sir."

"It doesn't need to be. Get in close and stick to the aft sections where they can't hit us!"
>>
Your escort closes in, a few looking in rough shape, but still well enough to finish things. Shuttles, HLV's and FTL capable LSTs are detaching and using the hull for cover as they make their own escape.

Once close enough your crew lock tractor beams while continuing to batter down the remaining shields. Eko even rolls the ship enough for the ventral PPCDG to open up while you plasma cannons are recharging.

"Reynard to Marine forces, stand by for boarding assault."

It isn't long until their shields fail then the LSTs are away.

"Watch for signs of sabotage. We don't want them to destroy the ship."

For now it looks like the worst the crew are doing are jettisoning the fuel and weapons stores to prevent the ship from immediately going back into combat.
Maybourne has crews lock repulsors on the ejected heavy torpedo stores pushing them out of range. A good thing too as some had been set to detonate.

The other heavy cruiser you see has jumped out after taking some damage from the assault corvettes. They were unable to do serious damage to the gravity well before it escaped so that's one mission accomplished.

Your marines storm through the crippled ship, meeting minimal resistance. It looks like most of the power cell equipped troops that might have otherwise resisted you abandoned ship in the first wave.
Maybe they think they'll be needed elsewhere?

Should have stopped before midnight. Got to be up early.

Hoping to resume before noon tomorrow and we'll see what's happening with the rest of the battle now that the gravity well is down.

The fortress is doomed if it crashes on the planetoid. The crash will likely leave it a static fixture, meaning an easy target for the siege array, massed time-on-target torpedo attacks, and anything else we can throw at the thing. We'll effectively have them unable to retaliate to most forms of attack, and the curvature of the planetoid will basically give us easy containment of their forces as well. (try advancing when we have even a handful of warships that can come bombard your forces)

Not to mention that the sheer mass of that fortress is going to break all sorts of systems and crew, even a fender-bender type impact with the planetoid.
>>

>Yaaaay. Crashing the Fortress on Avoubic now probably means that they're linking back up with the elite troops we tried so hard to separate them from. Not to mention the Heavy Power cell Troops.

That's a good thing. Having them grounded on the planetoid leaves them vulnerable to a siege situation where we have all the time in the world to hammer at them. Its better then these costly battles where we have no real answer to the fortress since our array is a glass cannon and slower(?) Then it.

I'm willing to trade Avoubic to finally get rid of this fortress. Any ships still in dock at Avoubic should vacate at best opportunity.

Routed enemy forces are jumping out of the system left and right allowing the rest of your allied fleets to concentrate their firepower on the remainder.

The crippled heavy cruiser along with some of the elite units conduct a more orderly retreat to Avao Fortress. It looks like more damaged enemy ships unable to make longer jumps are rallying there. Others are setting out for it at sublight which might take them a few hours.

Arron sends you a message that he'd going to keep an eye on things there.

The Gravity well generator jumps back in system near to the Array not long after their escape. There are no immediate plans from the Barons for them to power it back up.

Remaining elements are trying their best to move to protect the Mobile Fortress but they're being picked off before they can reach it in numbers. Wide beam shots from the Array are causing enemy morale among the outer units to crumble. More are surrendering or breaking away from their formations.

You turn to Maybourne.
"Is the Fortress going to fall out orbit or not? Because if it is they're certainly taking all day."

"They're tying to stay up with their remaining sublight engines and repulsors but it looks like most of their power is being diverted to weapons and shields."

They're being pushed out of orbit by the fighting now. Their engines might be able to make the fall survivable enough to either salvage the Fortress or let their remaining ground troops on the surface retreat to it. Those that weren't nuked that is, and they would have been the closest.

A unit of assault corvettes from various Houses in the Run Alliance manage to reach the hole in the Forts shields. A strafing and torpedo run takes out several of the sublight engines while power failures momentarily drop the repulsors offline.

>cont.
>>
Corvettes scatter and get out of the way as the Fortress drops to the surface of the planetoid. Aft sections hit first, the damaged areas crumpling further. The aft mounted siege cannons, made of tougher stuff than the fortress, rip free of their weapon mounts, punching through the inner hull sections and deep into the interior causing heavy damage.

Eventually it grinds to a halt leaving behind a deep furrow in Avoubic's surface.

While the forward shields are still up the Forbearance and Sam Bellamy are able to change course, keeping them out of the line of fire of the forts remaining siege weapons while continuing to bombard it.
"Several Medium cruisers are docking with the grounded Fortress. It looks like they're conducting evacuation efforts."

Count Nirium contacts you. "They're finished. Our ships can sit back and pummel them into oblivion. I'm inclined to offer them generous terms in the hopes that they'll surrender the remainder of the Fort intact. Their main armament alone is incredibly valuable."

You don't like where he's going with "generous terms" and ask for clarification.
"What terms did you have in mind exactly?"

"Allowing them to evacuate most personnel in return for leaving the fort intact. I'm confident at least two of the three would hold to their word if they gave it."

JD can't man this fortress and the Forbearance at the same time without having to mothball a large portion of her fleet, unless the manpower shortage has been completely erased by the merger with Erid(?). But that would mean taking experienced crew out of valuable ships to man the fort.

Possibly. The ships conducting the evacuation are fast and tough enough that some would still get away but it would mean they have less time to carry it out.

I figure we're now in the position to offer a substantially similar deal. They surrender the fortress intact along with the ground troops on Avoubic and in return their ships get to leave. Time limited offer so if any Dukes don't want to be POWs they'd better start running to the shuttles.

Might as well, it would force those ships still fighting to choose between the fortress or escape if the well came back on.

Send out ships to likely locations for enemy receiver ships that are out system or at the edge of the system. Tighten the noose on those that are committed to staying.

This is the defeat in detail scenario we excel at now that we've isolated the fortress and they have (to our knowledge) no sizeable reserve.

I'm not to keen on launching a boarding operation in case they decide to use the fort as bait and blow it when our ships are near or a significant amount of assets are on board.

>Update on the marines we left on the other fort? How is their delaying action going.
Using locally manufactured vehicles and heavy weapopns they've been able to halt the enemy advance into the rest of Avao. Incursions into the habitation blocks were isolated and cut off. They're unable to counterattack due to damage to the interior sections connecting to the main docks. In time they'll be able to clear them.
Special forces have been able to conduct minor raids through ducting connecting parts of the interior but this isn't sufficient to let them retake the main docks. There are signs that the enemy are preparing to pull out.

>Do they have a foothold secured so we can land additional reinforcements?
The port where their HLV's are docked has been bombarded and blocked with rubble. The ships are still intact. It would take time to clear to allow troops to come or go but it's certainly possible.

Engineers are widening routes to the reserve dock to allow any additional reinforcements to quickly move into the station.

Powering up the gravity well once more quickly causes a second rout. Forces that had hoped to buy time for the evacuation of the Mobile Fortress break from combat and begin to micro jump out.

The House Karbos battleship forces converge on the remaining Heavy Carriers still in system. They're able to cripple one of the converted Ceres Tugs in short order. The Helios fleet meanwhile tries to take down one of the remaining Talos Carriers and elements continue to pursue after they jump.

Earl Tarse-enic attempts to convince the rest of the fleet not to pursue enemy units leaving the system until after there has been time to take stock of damage and losses.

"We can't split up now only to let them try to defeat us group by group. Stay in system until the battle is concluded."

Once the gravity well has returned to full strength you begin broadcasting demands that all enemy forces surrender.

Siege weapon fire from the remaining guns on the crashed Fortress are able to clear enough of an opening for last minute stragglers to make a run for it. A half dozen new model Shukhant class ships tow the remaining shield platforms with them for added protection.

Assault transports and LSTs from your side begin making runs to put marines aboard before the enemy can attempt to self destruct.

Surrender doesn't take as long as you might have expected. The Forts captain informs you that the fleet's senior officers have fled, though it probably won't do them much good. A demotion would probably be the least of their worries should they return to their Houses and they can't expect a prisoner exchange if captured.

"We're surrendering in the interests of seeing assistance and medical aid for our wounded and those trapped in the damaged sections."

"Where are the so called three Dukes now?" you demand to know.

"Two left aboard ships with their best troops, the last used an emergency teleporter."

What about the enemy ships who have already surrendered? They should have damage control teams available. Even the boarding teams who have surrendered should be trained for basic S&R. The forces on the smaller asteroid fortress might be another option, it could even add some incentive to surrender quickly if they want to help save their comrades.

Even if we have to provide some of our people to coordinate and help with the more complicated rescue operations, it should cut down the numbers we'd have to tie up for this considerably.

Can we use recovered enemy engineers/mechanics from the battle, and minimize our teams deployed? Marines will need to be aboard anyway, but we can always increase our marine numbers to compensate.

More important than more hands is likely more shifts, anyway. Make them sign contracts that they won't sabotage the fort and give them a (low) bit of pay, provided they stick to the contract.

"Do you think we can really trust them? Most damage control teams are trained to help resist boarding actions. They'll be almost as good as our regular infantry in a firefight if they get loose."

"Make them wear explosive collars." suggests Baron Kadnil.

You put forward the idea of simply putting them on contract.

Baron Kelly can hardly believe what you're saying.
"You want to pay enemy troops? Are you serious? I never thought I'd hear anything like that from you Reynard."

"We don't have to." says Usela. "We can charge the enemy for it after the civil war under emergency services billing. If they try to refuse to the information can be leaked to the media. It would cause serious disruption to their public works and wouldn't even matter which side won the civil war."

Fadila confirms that while obscure it's legally solid within Dominion law. It seems all those years penny pinching for House Possat have paid off somewhat for the Baron.

Some of the Generals set aside troops to establishing and guarding SAR teams using captured enemy personnel. These damage control teams will of course be made up of volunteers from those captured. You're not forcing them to do anything, but you're making it clear that the less of them help out, the more of their comrades will probably die trapped in the wreckage.

Any available RSS personnel will help to try and oversee efforts to make sure they don't intentionally damage vital systems while cutting through to rescue people.

The last enemy ships in close proximity to Avoubic have been chased off or have surrendered. Units have begun to form up and establish a perimeter while towing damaged vessels in to dock.

Alternatively some form of Neeran Tech. Whatever it is Veckron weapons aren't all that valuable considering they sort of ruin everything. I'd much rather have something else. Each of the Houses that could conceivably have a claim on the Fortress would get at minimum one warhead. Almost certainly more. The number is far more negotiable than the information on what they're looking for.

Krath produced model roughly analogous in yield to the Terran Mark 6 or the Republic/Rovinar disposable launcher version. They're compatible with any Alliance Veckron Launcher type including those used by the Dominion.

"You have an office secured against listening devices don't you?" asks Eldal.

You do aboard the Devourer. The Outer Heaven was scheduled to get one but you were a little tight on funds after helping pay for the fleet.

"If its necessary to negotiate or discuss further it should be done there."

Who do you intend to include in the negotiations? You can't take everyone since some are needed to look after the fleet. The less the better.

One each from the big 3 along with Sonia and our trusty Fadila. That should ensure no one feels left out and get sulky about this whole thing. While Foss did help out a lot he technically goes under JD due to him being hired by us so. Which is why I did not choose to involve him.

J-D does and it's part of the Run Alliance. That and you have to live with these people and they'll be pissed if you just exclude them. Which has been a concern of some since you took up residence on Rioja.

They contributed everything they had to this battle so snubbing them needlessly would be a bad idea.

True, but it can be traded to the Major Houses for equipment or concessions.

Trusted representatives will be sent except in the case of Earl Tarse-enic. Seeing an opportunity to get ahead of the Ruling House he's attending in person.

"I hope this is worth the bother Reynard."
You do also.

Your little group sits down with Eldal and you activate the electronic countermeasures.

"So what is it you want from us exactly?" the Earl immediately asks.

Eldal isn't used to negotiation you think but he must have been briefed heavily before this.

"While the other Faction governments have publicly declared their position about the Dominion's Civil War one way or another The Krath Union has not. We have merely increased security in some areas as we have minimal direct trade with the other Factions. A fact the Rovinar are all too happy about at times.
It is the position of our government that while we do not wish to take sides in your Factions affairs we can not always sit idly by when the Dominion is threatened with destruction. The assets we would like to secure from the Mobile Fortress, if present, pose a threat to the survival of your entire Faction. Information will be released to you at a later time though I do not know when."

"And when do we get them back?" asks the Ruling House representative.

"We would not be returning any of the assets or personnel we take, but rest assured we're not interested in anyone from your Houses. Hence why our offer of payment is so high.
We're offering twelve Veckron Warheads in return. If you desire more, how many or their equivalent value in other goods would it take to keep questions to a minimum?"
>>
>>49211184
>twelve Veckron Warheads
I don't know about you guys but I'd actually like a whole load of rebuilding funds, equipment, and assistance that we can spread out, or else I feel like the Run Alliance will be a lot less stable and incredibly more prone to infighting.

Would asking for Krath cloaks be too cheeky?

I guess as a personal request we could ask for any information on the non-factions, non-Neeran groups, since they were mentioned to be implicit in the Nanite attack. Or just help in tracking down those responsible.

We could also ask them to build the Super Spacefucker Veckron we have the plans for.

Which would draw more attention.

Possible. You may have a different definition of subtle than I do though based on your other suggestions.

>Tech?
They could provide better quality e-beams than you can buy from the Rovinar. While it would technically be harder to detect these when firing from your cloaked ships the extra damage means that groups of enemy ships would have a clear indication of what general direction it came from.

Well that's their problem if anything. I just would really like a big fat batch of SP's over Veckron Torpedoes.

It depends on the project really. Their tech tree is actually surprisingly limited. They're insanely ahead in some aspects but far behind in others.

>I remember a single vecron being worth a billion in the black market.
The price of them on the black market has gone up between use in the war and operations to catch those selling them. They're nearly impossible to get hold of now but people are only willing to pay so much more since there's always a slight chance of salvaged warheads being a dud.

You could probably wait and sell one to one of the majors at a higher than black market amount since they'll know you have a good one.

It's worth more in some ways and less in others.

Funding and Industry/Station Modules can be recouped when we win the civil war.

E-beams are < AM torpedoes for our stealth ships. Holographic sensors are pretty meh as well. Unless we're being given the ability to manufacture them on our own, in which case I would be tempted to sacrifice the Veckron torpedo for them.

Krath special assistance would be massively useful for the current situation though, especially covert fleet relocation so that we can raid our little hearts out and recoup losses immediately.

Future Krath Armor will go a long way to shoring up our simple lack of troops, and increasing the effectiveness of our SF who we use all the damn time.

R&D Support is the most important one though. The limited nature is less important than the fact that it will mean regular and consistent contact with the Krath, who are isolated and stigmatized by most factions. This is an opportunity to build close relations with them, especially since they seem to be chafing under their relationship with the Rovinar.

The main shields around Avoubic have been lowered to allow more ships to dock in the underground yards for repairs. Your Heavy Cruisers and Carriers have been rotating through the more lightly damaged ships they can quickly patch up and get back into the field.

Enemy ships are still massing around Avao Fortress but it looks like they're just doing quick repairs to FTL systems there.

Of the groups of ships that fled the system in a disorganized panic most have fled to colony worlds in the Run that they have nominal control over.

Two of the more organized fleet groups have fled to the Forbearance yard and towards Csontos. You're not sure what they're up to but it cant be good. Also worrying is that the many of the Aries forces you expected to reinforce the enemy failed to materialise.

Defending the salvage field around Avoubic is too important at this point to split up the fleet right now. You could safely send a strong force against one other location without worrying about either being overwhelmed.

The fleet is able to maintain long range coms with a few relay ships and you get a good view of the battle. Both Super Heavies drop out in the usual spot and immediately open fire with point defense to shoot down an incoming wave of torpedoes. It seems the enemy anticipated their arrival.

Weapons on hastily assembled platforms try to provide covering fire to the Heavy Carrier. It looks like they were trying to load up manufacturing blocks used for defense platform construction. The others aren't looking in great shape.

The siege weapons don't take long to weigh in, every one of the big guns managing to land a hit. Beams from two of them punch through the now overwhelmed shields scoring critical hits to the sublight drives.

They still try to get clear, abandoning the manufacturing blocks in the process and using them as shields.

Escorts from both fleets tear into each other and Foss orders both Supers to power up their afterburners to stay with the Carrier. The crew of the Talos class pushes their remaining engines while trying to avoid more fire. If they'd been slightly farther away, or equipped with additional drives like Avun's ship it might have been enough to slip away, even if only temporarily.

Another barrage, this time carefully aimed to avoid damage to the shipyards slams into the aft shields of the heavy. A few more shots get through impacting the dorsal hull then finally one of the starboard engines. After that Forbearance begins to get close enough to lock tractor beams.

A futile attempt is made to come about and bring heavier weapons to bear but that's it. The Admiral in command soon signals their surrender.

In the fierce fighting many of the escort ships on both sides were lost or badly damaged. While your Supers are nearly unscathed it will be a few hours before you can safely deploy another force to chase down the remaining enemy fleets.

Or at least the Admirals all feel that way.

Some of the attack units have been rested and repaired enough to deploy as skirmishers, though their numbers will remain low for now. The Helios and Kharbos fleets are now acting in the role of a mobile reserve that can rush to aid any of your allies that get into a bad situation.

A Baron commanding the enemy forces at Avao Fortress hails the fleet.

They wish to discuss terms for the withdrawl of their forces from the system.

"If you do not hinder our evacuation efforts from the asteroid we will not seek to cause any additional damage to Avao. I would rather not further endanger the Civilians there."

>>
>>49216773
Well, we could force them to agree to letting us disable all their weapon systems.

Personally, I would like to act as if their declaration was a threat to the civilians of Avao. I mean, we have no intention of attacking civilians. So are they saying that they plan on executing them if we don't let them go?

Because we should really remind them of how we reacted when their commanders tried that shit by firing a Veckron Torpedo in the run.

Where do they stand now? Their fortress crashed and lost while the Barons fled in disgrace, and their fleet scattered. The V-torp ship destroyed. Their heavy fleet elements reduced and damaged. The more moral members of their fleet forced to take a stand against them.

He better think really, really fucking hard about threatening the people we've promised to protect. Because we don't leave threats behind to come back and harm then later.

Then use that as either the reason for forcing him to go to Terran space to sit out the war, or for us to focus our entire force on Avao and wreck them as thoroughly as we have the greater fleet. We can always Grav Well + Array to hit their Heavy Cruiser.

We could come up with an agreement that has them jump in smaller groups. Or have them stay around Avao until we can spare the ships to escort them properly.

>Still a ton of threads behind. Isn't Bonrah still by the Nav Station to Terran Space?

No, Bonrah had no territory left before this invasion except for 2 planets under blockade. They had no other assets left in the area as far as we know.

He's probably just saying that combat in space in close proximity to and on an inhabited asteroid is probably not good for the civilians living there. Which is unsurprisingly true.

Buddy should have been more precise with his words. Even if we know what he means, faking taking offense sends a message that we don't trust his side given the actions of his commanders and gives us cause to push for more stringent terms, or might prick whatever sense of honour he has.

As for our deal with Eldal, business is business. We're making deals that affect not just our houses, but the entire Dominion here, we have to get fucking PAID for that shit.

He didn't even try to negotiate us down, which is always a sign that you didn't ask for enough.

It's simply getting annoying at this point. Being upset about everything and then attacking will just result in nobody talking to us any more.

It's not worth costing our only personal connection to the Krath his job, or his willingness to deal with us on friendly terms. We basically have to take more into consideration than the stock value and the end of the quarter.

That's politics. We have to establish a moral high ground because doing otherwise ends up with us in jail because of war crimes.
It's not worth costing our only personal connection to the Krath his job, or his willingness to deal with us on friendly terms.

>Permanently upset
>Not worth talking to

If I recall they've set the bar at unconditional and forthwith surrender in the multiple times theyve opened dialogue with us.

On the otherhand we've been reasonable with Aries and while heavy handed with the fortress did allow them to use their surrendered damage control crews for SAR. We are worth talking to still in that we've been reasonably fair in our terms.

However the enemy commander at Avao is basically saying to let him and the remainder of his fleet, that is battered, isolated and based at a location they don't even fully control, to just waltz out unmolested to rejoin what's left of his allies and presumably resume hostilities either here or at DRH2

Besides we have the right to be upset. They've demonstrated that their willing to recklessly use Veckron weapons on already damaged sections of space, which at worse could have cut the run in two or create a narrower corridor around the Avoubic corridor. As well as forcing the relocation of everyone in the Avoubic system who doesn't wish to live in isolation for the next 400 years.

>>49215672
We have ground forces at Avao, commit the rest of the marines and the army to reinforce them, attempt to capture what's in port.
Recall the Supers and along with the Array begin to bombard what isn't hiding in the fortress and activate the gravity generator. Pretty much, though its doubtful they'd stop inside this relay once they start running.

To get ahead of the bickering taking place:

Do you feel its worthwhile to have a broken and defeated force return home to spread word of the level of their defeat? This MAY impact morale of their respective Houses and hasten their defeat, but they'll also get a few hundred ships that can be repaired.
Or do you want to try and permanently remove their assets from the field?

I'm sorry, do you mean with Avao? Because my goal there is to not let a pinned down enemy free to raid or link up and repair with one of the remainder forces.

If you mean the previous vote, it's over and done but we didn't get any political capital out of it, and the strategic value is questionable since higher quality salvage can be salvaged faster and would have freed up more forces to chase down the remainder of Bonrahs fleet instead of staying here guarding more damaged salvage. At the cost of our allies taking the brunt of damage from fighting Heavies.

Which is Dominion tactics 101.

But that opportunity has passed so we should think of how to justify it. Did we think our allies unable to get the job done? Possibly offensive to our allies and gives us a personal reputation hit. I feel arguing it from a tactical point might not be best.

>>49221400
>but we didn't get any political capital out of it,
If you mean the Veckron warheads your allies in the Run should be happy with the share of the spoils they're getting. They're each getting at least 1 warhead or its value which they can use to good effect repairing damage to the Run later.

If you mean going after Forbearance station that's probably had better long term results since RSS would have lost the local ability to construct station modules. Something you'll desperately need for reconstruction efforts.
Also the other Barons in the Run will be happy some of the money they invested in its startup won't have been lost.

There will always be those that escape back to friendly lines. However having an entire battlegroup just disappear is more ominous. Sure Bonrah High Command could say nothing, but the silence and the missing family members speak volumes.

Plus i'd rather not let them have people who hold a grudge against us back in fresh ships leading or part of fresh formations. Considering quite a bit of their elite units staged a fighting withdrawal into Avao.

I am worried though of how were gonna house and feed all theese PoW's. What with all the infrastructure damage done to the orbitals on various planets and with transports in high demand. Having to feed possibly somewhere close to a hundred thousand prisoners could become a nightmare unless we just feed them all nutrient paste/cubes.

We're up to 41-42 posters so either people are on different PC's and phones or there's just a lot of IP randomization this week.

You inform the others that you're against accepting these terms.

"Nasidum tried to V-Torps us and then asked us to outright surrender. We should ask for the same from the remaining enemy fleet."

There's some arguing but the Count and Earl eventually agree to move with as much of the remaining reserves as possible in the hopes of forcing an easy surrender.

The Gravity well is deactivated allowing the Array to jump within weapons range of Avao while the Helios fleet jumps in from the other direction. As many of the repaired skirmishing forces as possible attempt to surround the Fortress.

A few long range battleships and others with high FTL speeds jump out of course, as do the occasional scattered ship but they're not a unified force.

The enemy Baron signals the surrender of his crippled ship.
"Our troops are evacuating to their transports and will surrender once they're clear of the asteroid. They have concerns that their surrender will not be respected by elements of the local defenders."

You know your troops would respect POW status, but Avobic can be a bit rough at times. It's probably a legitimate concern.

The Nav stations have confirmed that two of the Heavy Cruisers have jumped towards the next Relay. Smaller ships are making their way into Terran space.

>cont.

> The enemy Baron

One of the three? If so that alone justified this. Reminder that they're considered to be lynch pins for the greater alliance between Bonrah and Co.
>>
Arron follows the remaining Talos Heavy Carrier in its retreat around the edge of the relay to the Aries Nav station. Sure enough the elements that hadn't been present for the battle are there doing hasty repair work to the sensor arrays. It looks like there are a few ships you hadn't accounted for previously including a pair of medium transports.

Reports from the Centri cluster indicate House Xygen has launched an attack ont he nav station on their side, temporarily driving off House Kharbos forces there. It looks like it was enough time to transmit more nav data and the remaining fleets near the Aries station jump out, headed back to the Centri cluster.

Its a day later when you get word from the DRH 2 Relay.

Winifred's fleet entered the Relay from South Reach while Şivan Berwari's mercenaries entered from the Republic Relays tailing Bonrah reinforcements. The Helios fleet used the back door but this was anticipated.

What was not anticipated were their new experimental heavy cruisers. One of them mounts 4 heavily armored siege cannons, while the other is built around a giant fusion powered UV laser more than 2 kilometers in diameter.

Together with Winifred's Heavy they were able to overwhelm the remaining Super Heavy Cruiser, though they probably took some damage from its scrap cannons in the process. You still haven't heard all the details.

It looks like your allies have won a substantial victory there. It could still take a few more weeks for things to quiet down in that relay and you have plenty of clean up work of your own to carry out here.

Do you want to send any reinforcements to DRH 2 at this time or work to consolidate your own position?

Berwari was able to assault it while everyone else was busy with Bonrah's other ships.

>I thought shields were meant to be super great at blocking out lasers and the main reason why people stopped using them?
They're not nearly as effective true but they can do damage. Your squadrons were threatened by a reflector weapon once so they're not completely worthless.

With enough power behind it even a laser can be threatening and this is a big one. It can also maintain continuous fire until they run out of fuel.

Helios is supposed to be working on it as a counter to the shields on Neeran Supers.

Not yet. They took some bad losses in that big battle in the Centri Cluster which was a setback but they're still progressing towards it.

Looks like Qlippoth is getting its chance to shine.

Another ship may go with them. Probably the Ruling House one.

Lyas Cinayk has volunteered to lead the J-D forces going to the next relay, being the most familiar with it.
Do you approve? Y/N?
>>
>>49223337
Y.

Might as well go with the person most familiar with the region.
>>
>>49223337
Didn't drake lead the last fleet we had in that relay.
>>
>>49223401
Drake was supposed to but her mission was scrubbed when a (fake) enemy fleet was detected headed for the Centri Cluster side nav station. Her fleet returned to the relay and it was decided that with the renewed threat her team wouldn't be leaving.
>>
>>49223337
Y

Might as well give someone new a chance to prove themselves.
>>
>>49223479
Didn't we send her again, which is what allowed helios to keep their territoryin the relay and ber'helum to evacuate?
>>
>>49223513
I guess we did.

Up to you though. Drake already is high enough up to get a Knight commander position.
>>
>>49223604
Nah, let's give Cinayk a shot.

Gotta farm those elites.
>>
Qlippoth and the Ruling House Ascendancy head out after gathering an escort fleet of as many undamaged ships as can be spared. Ber'helum also sends a contingent to help liberate their own territories in the Relay.

It seems neither of the majors want to risk losing worlds to their allies.

For the rest of you begins the long arduous task of clearing out the DRH 1 Relay of enemy forces. Not everyone left and there are probably squadrons in hiding, just waiting to disrupt your logistics.

Securing either entrance to the Run is also vital to create choke points to restrict movement.
Did you want to try and capture the remaining platforms relatively intact, cripple them until they can no longer fight, or destroy them outright? You have the firepower.
>>

>Did you want to try and capture the remaining platforms relatively intact

This. They have nowhere to go, and we can always escalate to crippling them or destroying them if they take too long.

See how they feel about surrendering and take it from there.

I get the feeling the rest of them will fall in line if we take harsh measures against the ones that resist.
>>
>>49223808
Capture them relatively intact. We have shield platforms, they won't get far.
>>
>>49223938
>We have shield platforms, they won't get far.
True, but boarding assault can still be dangerous even with LSTs.

>>49223900
>See how they feel about surrendering and take it from there.
Apparently the CO of one platform is telling the others to resist as long as possible to buy time for their allies.

>I get the feeling the rest of them will fall in line if we take harsh measures against the ones that resist.
Did you guys want to implement this? What exactly did you have in mind?
>>
>>49224137
I'm inclined to send in a boarding assault
>>
>>49223808
Capture the stations. We've lost enough already as it is.

>>49223900
Mongol tactics much?
>>
>>49224137
>CO of one platform telling others to resist

Offer his station a chance to surrender.

Slag the platform he is commanding from in a show of power/force when he does not.

When he tries to surrender, don't listen.

Offer the next ones a chance to surrender and live.

I don't recall any of these platforms having the ability to weather a pair of supers for long, and we space mongols now.
>>
>>49223808
Intact. We can always starve them of food/water/fuel.
>>
>>49224444
>I don't recall any of these platforms having the ability to weather a pair of supers for long
They don't but they can delay you in capturing them and cost you marines.

Roll 4d20 for boarding assaults and then I'll see you next week!

Reminder that the Krath, the cloaking pros, the elite infiltrators and super spies, are offering us holocamo upgrades for our recon troops, and eventually armor.

I hope we can keep buying the Krath armor too.

That's too good to pass up.
