You are the former United States Navy warship USS HOEL, now returned as a shipgirl and ready to kick Abyssal ass!

Currently, you sailing in formation with four of your fellow destroyers and one destroyer escort as your small flotilla headed straight towards a massive Abyssal base, with the sole intent of basically running up to the door and leaving a flaming bag of shit on the doorstep.

Well, that was the basic idea, anyways.

Thanks to a combination of the darkness, Eldridge's stealth field, and helpful recon from the F-35s in the air and the subs below the sea managed to route you past pretty much all of the Abyssal patrols so far. While things were looking good, you did begin to notice that the patrols were becoming more frequent and more closely spaced as you all got closer to the target.

"Spearpoint, this is Wild Card Four." One of the F-35s called out, using your little group's call sign. "Up ahead is going to get pretty damn tight. I'm seeing two Able patrols about to intersect. Advise that you slow down and wait for them to pass."

Up ahead, you could see two separate groups of running and search lights just a few kilometers out, both heading towards each other.

"We'll be sitting ducks, then!" Haida hisses. "What if they change direction and start heading toward us?"

"If you move fast enough, you do have a chance of breaking through before they cross." Darter points out. "Or we or the air cover can provide a distraction to let you get past."

"Damnit!" You hiss as you quickly motion for the other destroyers to start slowing down. Thanks to the nightvision sets you were all wearing, they could clearly see your hand signs and cut engine power.

"Awwww damn." Johnston sighs. "So we're just gonna sit and wait?"

"Looks like it." Heerman shrugs.

"I say we take the fight straight them landlubbing-" Kidd starts to shout before Haida ever so helpfully clamps a hand over her mouth, silencing the little pirate destroyer.

"Just because the darkness makes it harder for them to see doesn't mean they still can't hear." Haida mutters to Kidd. "Let's try keeping the volume down, yeah?"

"Mrbph." Kidd presumably replies.

"Good." Haida finally lets go and pats Kidd on the back. Pepe gives an annoyed but subdued squawk at the Canadian shipgirl.

Meanwhile, you continue to observe the Abyssal patrols with your optics, squinting as you track their running lights. They certainly weren't afraid of getting spotting, that was for sure. You keep watching as the two clusters of lights converge on each other.

And then they stop.

"Well fuck." You sigh.

"It looks like they've stopped." Wild Card Four announces unhelpfully.

"Yes, I can see that." You sigh. "Options?"

"You're all clear all around ,assuming that formation doesn't just start moving without warning." The orbiting F-35 explains. "Looks like it might be some kind of resupply op or something, so they shouldn't be moving any time soon."

"Hopefully." Flasher interjects. Subs were always such a bright, optimistic bunch, weren't they?

"I say we just do a wide flanking maneuver and go around them at full speed!" Johnston cracks her knuckles.

"I think it might be better if we just coast on minimum power. They might hear us if we go full power." Heerman warns.

You all look to Eldridge.

"Hey, don't look at me!" She laughs nervously. "I'm just along for the ride! I trust you all know what you're doing!"

"You poor summer child." Haida shakes her head.

"All right, we'll all sprint at full power for a few seconds, and then we throttle back to minimum power and coast on our momentum. No sense giving ourselves away now." You grunt. "Johnston, Haida, you two make sure Eldridge doesn't fall behind."

"Aye aye!" Johnston salutes as she grabs one of Eldridge's arms.

"W-what?" Eldridge blinks.

"You're going to find out what 30 knots feels like." Haida explains as she grabs Eldridge's other arm.

"Cool!" She says excitedly.

"All right, we do this one three." You order. "One... two.. THREE!"

In unison, all six ships fire up their engines at full power, blazing through the water. You silently keep a careful eye on your speed, making sure it's peaked at 30 knots before barking out your next order.

"Cut!" You shout and almost immediately, everything goes quiet as your engines go from a loud roar to a dull hum, barely audible over the ocean waves lapping up against your armored shoes.

And your formation begins to coast by the Abyssals, who were now so close you could see that they were indeed in the middle of some kind of resupply or transfer operation. Abyssals, both monster and humanoid, were hooking themselves up to Wa-class transports, presumably "eating." You could see a few humanoid types standing off the side, not really doing in particular.

Were they just... hanging out?

You shake your head. You couldn't afford to think about that sort of shit right now. You just hope all the precautions you took were enough.

The six of you coast along, now at a snails pace as your momentum begins to bleed off and you have to rely solely on the meager power your engines were providing. The seconds drag out into what feel like hours as you carefully observe the Abyssal battlegroup, looking for any indication that they could have possibly detected you.

Likewise, the rest of your group was deathly quiet as well, as if afraid that even a whisper could tip off the enemy.

Thankfully, the Abyssals don't react at all, and continue on their routine business. Once you feel you're a safe distance away, you finally start throttling up your engines to a more reasonable speed.

"Looks like you're clear, Spearpoint." Wild Card Four confirms. "It's a straight shot to the target now."

Up ahead, you could see the underbelly of the Atlas platform, which looked to be a sheer forest of pipes, support columns, and all manner of odd constructions that the Abyssals had added on during their occupation. All highlighted by the flickering flames of gas fires or the harsh beams of searchlights.

"All right, we're close enough that their optics will see us, even int he darkness." Haida warns. "And that operation area under there looks to be lots of close quarters encounters. I think we should send Eldridge back."

"What, really?" Johnston blinks.

"I hate to say it, but Eldridge just isn't built to our spec." Haida sighs. "If it gets down to a knife fight, she won't be able to keep up with us."

"Hey, I resent that!" Eldridge grunts, the strange spinning tuning fork contraption on her back spinning quicker in annoyance. "I can totally handle myself! And you're gonna need all the guns you can get!"

"I just wanna get in there already and pillage some booty!" Kidd roars, waving her cutlass around.

"We still have the element of surprise, let's not give it away." You whisper. "Flasher, what's your status?"

"Holding position on the outer perimeter." The subgirl reports dutifully. "If anything happens we'll do our best to slow down their reinforcements."

"Appreciated." You reply as you turn back to your own squadron and look at the literal forest of pipes and columns. It was going to be really tough to maintain a formation in that kind of mess. Maybe you should split into smaller groups? That would increase your chances of getting at least one team to the objective if the other were to be be found...

"Haida, Kidd, you go with Eldridge and go straight in. Me, Johnston, and Heerman will circle around and come in from the flank." You order. "You get into any trouble, make sure to call it out. Got that?"

"Crystal." Haida nods.

"Arr!" Kidd cheers.

"Gotcha!" Eldridge gives the thumbs up.

"All right, let's go!" You nod as your two teams split up. You watch as Haida, Kidd, and Eldridge disappear into the maze of pipes.

"You girls ready?" You ask your sisters.

"Course we are!" Johnston says happily as she punches you in the arm a bit too roughly.

"Let's get this over with." Heerman frowns. "This places gives me the creeps."

Now that Heerman had pointed it out, the air did start to feel heavier and more oppressive the closer you got to the platform. Your skin began to crawl, like millions of little needles were being rolled across it, and you were pretty sure that it wasn't the cold. However, you couldn't afford to chicken out now, and you take the lead into the dark, pulsating underbelly of Atlas.

Oddly enough, it was... warm down here. No more chilly winds or icy waters. Down here, it felt almost like an oven. Almost as if...

No, better not to think about it. You shake your head in an attempt to clear it as you and you sisters cautiously wind your way through the thick tangle of pipes and beams.

"Jesus, this pace is a mess!" Johnston winces as she carefully maneuvers around an oozing pipe.

"Well, I don't suppose Abyssals have building standards." Heerman scowls. "It's too dark down here for the nightvision, and thermals are going crazy. Hoel, you think you can use your radar?"

You could give it a shot. It would definitely help you navigate this maze, but if they detect you...

You give a few pings, and immediately your mind's eye was flooded with information as your radar started bouncing every which way through all the piping and columns. It was complete chaos, with no apparently priority or logic to the layout of construction. Even now, more pipes and struts were being actively built by what looked to be worker drones. Freakish, spider like creatures that skittered the web of steel and flesh.

And underneath the surface of the water, your sonar was picking up odd readings. Tiny, sporadic movements, but nothing consistent with a sub or anything. Mines, maybe?

Fortunately, you didn't see any actual combat Abyssals in the immediate vicinity. They were all probably on the perimeter or inside the platform proper. There probably wasn't much reason to patrol down here in the heart of heir own base.

"Haida, watch out, these waters might be mined." You hiss.

"C--- --- --- ---a-- ---n- k----t." Haida's response is render incomprehensible from all the interference down here. Looks like comms were a no go.

"What do we do?" Heerman asks, her gaze nervously looking around.

"I've plotted a path to the target." You point. "But the problem is, I think that passage might be mined. There's an alternate path that doesn't look to be mined, but the space is tight. Really tight."

"How tight?" Johnston snickers.

"We'd be sharing engine heat." You grumble.

"That's... not ideal." Heerman grimaces.

"Nothing about this is ideal." You groan.

"We'll take the alternate path." You conclude. "Johnston, you're up front. Heerman, you take the rear."

"Got it." Heerman nods.

"Mhm!" Johnston says happily as she takes the lead, her shield up and ready. The one upside to being in a confined space was that anything coming down had to get through Johnston first, and she had the best defense out of all of you.

The alternate path was even more of a maze then the the outer perimeter. The pipes and struts were packed so tight and so haphazardly that you couldn't find this place resembled a spider's web more than the underbelly of a building.

Well, considering the worker units were spiderlike...

No. Best not to think about it too hard.

And sure enough, the path began to grown narrower and narrower, to the point where you and your sisters were forced to sail in a single file line. The air started to get heavier and more humid. The water below you was actually starting to steam, soaking into your clothes and sticking onto your Rig. Fumes and fluids leaked from the pipes around you, and you were finding it was getting harder to breathe...

Fortunately, you manage to power through most of the way without much incident. If you could remember correctly, you were almost at the exit. Just a little more!

"Um, Hole." Johnston pauses, causing you to crash into the back of her Rig.

"Johnston, what the hell!" You hiss.

"T-there's something up ahead." Johnston says nervously, lowering her shield just a bit so you could see over it.

Up ahead looked to be one of those spider worker units. About the size of a truck, it was hanging upside down from a rather large pipe, chittering and hissing to itself as it began secreting this ugly, viscous, and particularly foul smelling black goo from its ass, and using its legs and mouth to shape it into... more pipe. Some kind of construction method?

"W-what do we do?" Johnston asks. "It's blocking the way.

Well, erm, you do see a small space you could squeeze through to get past it. It didn't seem to have noticed you, or maybe it simply didn't care. You weren't very sure when it came to Abyssals.

Fortunately, the builder seems to be too preoccupied with, well... building to actually pay any sort of attention to you, and you and your sisters manage to slip past it without it being any the wiser.

"Finally!" Heerman sighs in relief. "We're out!"

"And there's our target." You grin as you point to the main pipe. Or, well, what you hoped was the pipe. The massive pipeline glistened and pulsed as it pumped oil from deep below the ocean into the platform above ,where it was presumably used to fuel the Abyssal war effort.

"All right, let's just plant the charges and get the hell out of here." Heerman sighs as she takes out her satchel charges.

"Wait a minute, what about the others?' Johnston blinks and looks around. "Shouldn't they have gotten here before us?"

You look around, but all you could see was inky darkness and the vague maze and web of pipes.

You check your radio, which still wasn't working. Looks like you had to make a call...

"Just plant the charges and we'll wait for them to get here." You instruct.

And so, amid the center of the enemy's fortress, you all plant your satchel charges, sticking them securely onto the pulsing main pipe. The red lights on them winked on indicating that they were armed. You had the remote that would set their timers. Sixty seconds to detonation.

However, you still had no idea what happened to Haida's group. The Abyssals didn't appear to be alerted, so they apparently hadn't been found out. Were they lost?

Five long minutes pass and nothing happens and nobody appears. Even now, you and your sisters were getting antsy. An epic against the odds battle on the open seas was something you all understood and weren't afraid of, but this place, in the possible literal belly of the beast? All of your instincts were screaming that you all should not be here...

"Damnit." You hiss and turn to your sisters. "All right, Johnston, Heerman, you two keep watch here. If I'm not back in three minutes, set the timers and get the hell out of here. Got it?"

"But-" Heerman steps forward.

"No buts. We can't afford to keep putting it off." You grunt. "Don't worry, I'll be fine, and I'll make sure Haida and the others are okay, too."

"A-all right." Heerman nods reluctantly.

"Good luck." Johnston gives you a good luck kiss on the cheek. "We'll see you on the outside!"

"Yeah..." You grin as you spin on your heel and sail out. Remembering from your previous radar sweep, you know the general direction in which Haida's team entered. However, thanks to Eldridge, you couldn't get an exact fix on them. So now you had to pull their possible routes from memory...

You COULD use your radar again. Sure, you couldn't pinpoint their exact location, but you could at least get a general idea of where they were just from the anomalous void Eldridge created.

You give a few exploratory pings, and sure enough, you find a space of just pure...emptiness. Places where the pipes just end as if they had been sheared off. You also update yourself on the routes and mine locations. Fortunately, they weren't too far, but the routes to get there were kinda messy.

>1 point remains

Thanks to your radar, you blaze through the labyrinthine pipe system with zero abandon, having already plotted the ideal routes. Your new diesel-electric turbines were also a great help, allowing you to better tune your power output to just as much as you need. A massive upgrade from the antique boilers you used to have to deal with.

Thankfully, once again, you don't encounter any resistance. You quickly reach the search area, with just two minutes before the charges are set. But you don't see your fellow destroyers anywhere.

"Haida? Kidd? Eldridge?" You call out.

"Over here!" You hear Haida croak.

You turn and look on in horror as you see your fellow destroyers, all glued to a pillar by that same black gunk you've seen the builders excrete. Both Eldridge and Kidd were engulfed up to their mouths, while you could see a spiderlike builder in the process of integrating Haida into the pillar as well. Her arms and legs were already gooped up, making it impossible for her to retaliate.

"You have some real good timing." Haida winces as the builder sprays some of the goo right on her chest, the alien fluid quickly hardening. "So how aboot you get us the hell out of these things?!?"
