Bulma places the Ki Container down on a table. "So, mind going over all this one more time?"

"This device was taken from the Demon Realm by Towa and given to King Piccolo during his attack, correct?" Melee asks. The two of you nod. "So, Prince Beelzebub would like it returned. He's still trying to find solutions to balancing out what Towa's taken in her little flight. And the fact that Towa hasn't tried to recover this already worries him."

That's... a good point. Towa probably would want something like this back, or at least kept away from you purely for situations like this. She's probably had a million opportunities by now to retrieve it. So... why IS it still here?

"Well, perhaps Towa has a spare?" Bulma speculates. "It's not like she would need a lot of these. Maybe she can make them on her own- ...wait, then she might be using them more frequently."

"Who says she doesn't?" Gola asks.

Both you and Bulma gulp at that thought.

"We can allow some leniency. But make it quick." Gola responds in a near grumble. "The Prince wants those things back within two days. If we take any longer, he might assume Melee got sidetracked." he adds, making the comment sound serious but from the embarrassed and annoyed reaction Melee gives him you can tell it was a bit of a joke.

"How is the prince, by the way?"

"He's recently made a visit to King Kress with a small entourage. Scared the hell out of them at first, but upon learning he was just trying to recover some of the leftovers from Shura's last 'visit' they eased up. Populace wouldn't leave their homes, but can't say I blame them." Gola replies. "Though, he did seem to want to... slack, a bit. I saw him engaging in conversation with Princess Misa during the visit. Talking about how sometimes it's necessary to 'unwind' when swamped by royal duties."

Melee sighs. "I don't even want to know where they got that much toilet paper for that prank."

...you get this look in your eye that causes Bulma to breathe out "Maple, no."

She hangs her head in resignation. "Maple..."

You turn back to Melee and Gola. "Anyway, hate to change the subject, but is there anything you guys know about some Demons tinkering with a kind of 'evil mist' on Earth? Aside from Towa and cohorts, that is. Like... maybe between 20, 30 years ago?"

"Aside from Towa..." Gola mumbles, thinking. "Hrmn. Shura wasn't up to anything like that as far as I can tell. But there may have been one of the Demons on Earth were up to."

Well... maybe Lucifer had something to do with it? Hrmn. Might be worth investigating another time. As you head off, telling the Demons you wish Beelzebub luck with the princess... and Melee luck with a certain silver-haired girl. You and Bulma arrive at Capsule Corp, clearing some space away on a workbench for this.

You crack your knuckles. All right, let's try this out. What to look into first?

You and Bulma work long into the night trying to discover what exactly this Ki Container does to... well, contain Ki. It's not an easy answer by any stretch of the imagination, equal parts scientifically complex mechanisms and deep magical enchantments. But if you can just understand the principle behind it, maybe you can replicate it, somehow.

By the next morning, the two of you have a working idea on this thing. And boy is it a doozy, but it's now at least slightly understandable. It's... well, calling it a rechargeable battery wouldn't quite be accurate, but there's decent analogy there. It contains energy in a way similar to one, but more held in place by a magical enchantment. You don't QUITE understand the mechanism it uses to absorb energy, but the investigation has given you an idea or two on it. And to your relief, the magical enchantment that it uses to store energy can be replicated without the... less savory aspect of it corrupting it.

You and Bulma get a prototype set up, and while the thing ends up almost half the size of a car, it's able to hold Ki easily after you carefully feed it some. Doing so is almost similar to how you heal people using Ki, but on a slightly more focused and less constructive method.

Bulma lets out a loud yawn as the morning sun rises. "Aaaahhh! Well that's been quite an all-nighter. I'm... gonna try and get some rest for as long as Pantea will let me."

You chuckle weakly. "Knowing Peppa and Gohan, the two are probably already up."

Well into December, you get the kids training and learning. Their initial bout with Pantea helping them has caused them to start paying attention better, Gohan especially, but Peppa steadily starts to outpace him again. Your daughter's skill with her Practice Power Pole starts to slowly catch up with what you remember of Goku's when you first met him, while Gohan's swordplay has improved. And their strength is growing phenomenally, soon they'll be quite a bit ahead of Pantea and Videl.

Meanwhile, you and Goku train yourselves as well. You throw a quick jab, Goku catching it at the last moment and trying to grab at you with his tail, you pushing yourself back to avoid it. "You know Maple, Vegeta's gonna keep getting stronger."

"It's why I'm training, isn't it monkey boy?" you ask with a smirk, Goku smiling in return as the two of you start to trade blows.

"Well yeah, but what if he gets as strong as me?" Goku asks, catching your leg and throwing you into the air.

You manage to stop yourself and leave an afterimage as Goku tries to follow his attack up with a kick, you delivering one of your own to the back of his head that he barely avoids. "You've pretty much always been stronger than me, monkey boy. But I've managed to win most of our fights."

"The win you managed last time..." You try to axe kick Goku, only for him to block it... his hair standing on end, a flash of gold going through it as he transforms. "Probably isn't going to work on him."

You're flung away with a blast of Ki, Goku chasing after as you halt yourself. He stops ahead of you, arms crossed and confident. You let yourself fly to him and then, at the last possible second, use the Raio-ken to bolt around him... and wrap your arms around his waist. "Aww, getting worried for me?" you ask with a kiss to his cheek... then quickly use as much power as you can to suplex Goku into the dirt. You smile a little deviously as you land. "Don't let it distract you, monkey boy."

Goku hops out of the ditch, laughing. That didn't do damage, but did catch him by enough of a surprise. "Well, a little, but mostly just trying to see if you've got a gameplan for facing him."

"Ahh." you add taking your stance again. "Sneaky, Goku. You're also seeing if I've figured out a way to fight a Super Saiyan myself. Trying to see if I've got something you need to prepare for."

Goku takes his stance and laughs. "Well, I want us both to get stronger for our rematch, Maple. I don't wanna go easy on you for the finals."

"You won't. That's a promise." you state confidently, dashing at him.

This continues for a long time, and while you still aren't on his level, you do at least reach a base Power Level of 3 million in base. Still have quite a ways to go. But you're not giving up.

You decide the next step for them is seeing if there's another fighter they might benefit learning from. And... well, it's clear who their preference is. You show up at Chuu Lee's house one day with Goku and the kids, the fellow redhead is initially surprised by your request.

"You... you want me to help train them?"

"If you're up for it, Chuu Lee." you state politely.

"W-well sure! I mean, I'd be honored to, it's just..." She rubs the back of her neck as you sense someone coming. Your family turns to see who it is... and well what do you know.

"VIDEL!" Peppa nearly screams in excitement, running to the girl.

"...Videl asked her dad if he'd let her learn from me." she states humbly. "He... said yes."

The black-haired girl walks towards you all with a slight look of confusion on her face, clearly happy to see your kids, but not sure why they're here.

"Well..." she responds nervously. Chuu Lee looks to the cheerful expressions on Gohan and Peppa's faces, then notices Videl gain, this time with an excited smile. Your kids have told her they get to train with her, and seems like her "big sis" instincts are kicking in. Chuu Lee smiles. "All right. I'll give it a shot."

"Thanks a bunch!" you tell her, giving your former student a hug.

With that all set up, you and Goku end up going to Misa's kingdom to meet with Beelzebub. You head to the entrance to the Demon Realm, waiting patiently for it to open. "Been a while since I was last here." Goku notes, tail swaying slightly.

"Ah, right, your training in the Demon Realm." you recall. "You did get plenty strong from that."

"Aheh. Well, it wasn't nearly enough to match him in strength. And his techniques seemed to hit even harder than you'd think." Goku notes.

"Well, if you want another asskicking, Goku, I'd be happy to oblige." a voice calls, belonging to the Demon Prince, accompanied by an elderly man. "Melee and Gola told me about the potential for a Demon to have used a vile weapon on the Earth during Shura's reign. I did some digging into it."

"And?"

He reveals a small bottle. "It's happened more times than I could count. Even during my father's reign, beings managed to sneak away certain substances from the depths of the Demon Realm. But you were right. Shura did more than just let it slide, he allowed it openly to certain powerful demons. You knew one of them."

"The Aquma. Devil Water. A single drop of this could cause havoc on a mortal's body in its pure form, reacting violently to it. Unless you have a very skilled healer nearby, you'd risk puking your guts out." He tosses it up in the air again, this time catching it with his tail. "Demons can drink it without much problem. Our Ki is, if anything, strengthened by it."

...this is sounding oddly familiar.

Beelzebub shakes his head. "Nah. For starters, this stuff isn't at all sentient." he responds, tossing it back to his hand. "And Darkness works with Kami, not us. Or... well, you know."

"Sir, the crowds are getting restless." the old demon comments to him.

"I'll deal with them when I get back, sheesh!" the Prince shouts. "Anyway, since you bring it up, he does have the cure-all to this substance. If you find any of it or its derivatives on the Earth, splash it with some of the Ultra Divine Water, and it'll cancel out." He's... now spinning it on his finger. You're starting to feel a bit nervous.

"Well, guess that's close enough to an Angel's Water as you can get..." you comment aloud. You then look back at the castle in the distance, smirking a little. Well Misa, looks like you certainly have a prince here, one that is a good deal more polite than the monkey one. Matchmaker Maple. Yes. "So. Melee and Gola told me about your little prank you and Princess Misa pulled."

"Hah, that girl? Oh she was fun. Took about half the castle's supply of TP, we nearly mummified that thieves' den." he says with a loud chuckle.

"Is that all?"

He shrugs. "Well yeah. She said she was looking for an excuse to let her hair down, go a little wild, for once. Quite a 'rescue' I did. King Kress nearly shat himself when he heard she was with me, but given what happened with Shura, it's understandable."

"Well... do you think she's cute?" you question.

"Sure-" Beelzebub stops. "...uh. That is to say..."

Goku ruffles your hair a little. "Up to old tricks, huh?"

'She deserves someone, doesn't she, monkey boy?' you ask telepathically. 'And looks like she gets along with this prince fairly well~'

Beelzebub squints. "What are you two talking about?"

"Thanks for the info, Beelzebub! And good luck with Miiiiisaaaaa~!" you shout as you start flying off, laughing.

As it nears Christmas, Chuu Lee escorts Gohan and Peppa back from training, Videl with them. Looks like things have paid off really well for all of them. Videl's Power Level clocks in at about... wow, 4500! And Peppa and Gohan aren't far behind, at 4200 and 4000 respectively. She does explain, however, that Peppa's a bit... impulsive. It's clear that while she's unlocked the ability to go Super Saiyan, just like her brother, neither of them have any control of it. Even Goku's teaching hasn't managed it. But she does bring up an idea.

"I think if they learn to control their emotions better, they'll be able to unlock it easily. But that got me thinking." the redheaded woman states, smiling. "Mastery of the form. True mastery, just like I've been trying with the Raio-Ten. If a Saiyan can really control their emotions while holding all that strength... well, maybe what Vegeta speculated on is right. A strength beyond that state."

"How do you figure?" Goku questions.

"Well... if the transformations are similar in 'activation,' maybe they can be mastered in a similar way?"

"Makes sense." Goku comments.

That causes you to raise an eyebrow. "Really?"

"Well... I mean, I've barely been able to improve at all since I got that smoothie. But training using the Raio-Ten over a long period, seems like I might have been able to get actual results." She smiles. "You better watch out, Goku, I hope to see you and Maple in the Tournament. I'm in it to win."

"Is that so?" he asks with a smirk.

"Big claim, Chuu Lee. Let's see you make it a reality." you say proudly.

"Mama, mama, I wanna win too!" Peppa shouts excitedly.

"You've still got a ways to go, Peppa." Videl tells her. "Take it from the Runner Up."

You giggle, patting your daughter's head. "You've gotta keep training, sweetie. But look how strong you and your brother are getting! I was more than twice your age when I got that tough. Your papa too! You two feel good with this kind of training?"

The twins nod excitedly, Goku picking them both up and hugging them tight. "You two are doing great, kids."

You turn to Videl next. "But you're doing phenomenally, Videl! Your dad must be so proud."

She smiles and blushes a little. "Miss Chuu Lee is a great teacher."

"Don't sell yourself short, kid. You're a real champ in the making." your former student tells her proudly. Videl seems absolutely giddy from that comment.

You think for a moment. Well... if Chuu Lee's managed an improvement like that, and if what she says is true... maybe it's worth a shot. You transform, but try to not let off as much Ki. See if you can control this. "All right, Chuu Lee, Goku, I'm giving this a shot. Let's see how long I can last doing this."

Goku blinks twice, then sets the kids down, transforming into a Super Saiyan himself. "Sounds like a good idea, Maple. Peppa, Gohan, papa's gonna try and see if he can help you two learn to transform like I do. Okay?"

Gohan nods respectfully, while your daughter... she's got stars in her eyes.

You keep this up until Christmas, and actually do manage to accomplish your goal. It takes some getting used to, and even with recharging your Ki and Stamina, it takes a substantial amount out of you. But you do notice yourself getting stronger, bit by bit, and able to hold the Raio-Ten down for longer and longer.

Goku, sadly, doesn't quite manage his goal, but he does seem to get better with using Super Saiyan. He and Raditz have a few bouts of training, Piccolo even joining in to see how far he's matched up. While alone neither really have the strength to face him, together, they seem to work really well. Raditz and Piccolo seem to have some nice teamwork, even giving Goku a run for his money as they fight him.

On Christmas Eve, Peppa and Gohan approach you with an interesting request for their present... showing you the book of Magic. "Wanna learn how to use it. Like you and Miss Chuu Lee, mama." your son requests.

"And you two think Magic can help you with that?"

They nod. "Just like you, mama."

You smile sweetly. "All right. And what kind of Magic do you want to learn?"

Gohan opens the book, turning to a page with a Lightning spell. Ah, the good ol' Charge Shot. "I wanna learn how to do this."

He then turns the pages to one with Wind Magic, similar to Chuu Lee's Shotenken, but on a smaller, more focused scale. The description mentions a swirling, spiral of wind that can push a target away. Peppa nearly stabs her finger at the page. "Wanna learn this!"

And so, on Christmas day, in addition to their normal presents, you help the kids learn their first spells... though not without difficulty. They ARE still kids, after all. Gohan manages to learn the spell he selected with little difficulty... though only after you explain it in enough detail for him, using words he can understand. Even with telepathy, it's hard... but he's a clever boy. He fires a shot into the woods, melting some of the fallen snow from a snowbank.

Peppa is even more eager to learn after Gohan demonstrates, and you do better with teaching her the new spell, though part of it is you learning some of it yourself. Not quite enough to do it on your own, it's quite a bit different from what you're used to, but with practice you could manage it. Upon finally getting the skill in her head, Peppa tries it out herself, intending to blast away a snowbank by striking it with her skill... and ending up pulled along with it as the winds spiral around her, making her less "blow it away" and more "drill through it." She crashes about ten meters away, slightly dazed but nearly laughing her little head off.

"AGAIN! AGAIN!"

"Uh, sweetie, it's not supposed to be a ride." you tell her. You have your daughter look over the technique again. Seems like she put WAY too much energy into this, her body ended up pulled along with her as she attempted the technique. You have her try it one more time, this time with more... control.

Peppa takes her stance, pulling her arm back, and building up some, but not too much, energy, then jumps at a snowbank and roars, "PEPPA SMASH!"

Ooooh that did the trick. Goku nudges you in the arm. "Now doesn't that sound familiar."

"She is unmistakably our kid. Just like her brother." you chuckle.

You bring the kids back inside, Groucho patiently waiting by his bowl. You give him a comically annoyed look. "It's not even close to time yet. And you can still hunt for yourself if you're THAT hungry, buddy."

The tiger seems to smile at you, swaying his tail. Peppa and Gohan pat him on the head as they sit down, you serving them some nice hot cocoa. Goku sits with you. "Man, you kids are doing great. Kinda wish I could do that."

"The book's been waiting, Goku." you comment.

"Yeah, but it's really hard to read. Can't wrap my head around it." he replies, tail wrapping around his waist.

"Well, anyway. Kids, you did do good. But, let's start on what we need to improve on." you start, the two of them sinking a bit in their seats. "It's nothing bad, sweeties, but it's a way for you both to get stronger. Peppa, it seems that you've got some trouble with Ki control. Let's have you focus on that for the time being, okay?"

"And Gohan, you did a good job learning the technique, but let's think for a bit. How can you improve it?" you ask your son.

He seems a little stumped at the question, and thinks hard. "Make it... uh... shoot faster?"

"That's one way." you tell him. "How about we put our minds together? Peppa, what do you think your brother could do to improve his new skill? Gohan, how do you think your sister can improve her Ki control?"

That really gets them thinking, and gets Goku a little stumped. But, you see the gears in their minds turning. Peppa is the first to speak. "Gohan! GOHAN!" She holds her hands out wide. "TWO OF THEM!"

Oooh, that's a good one. Two shots, can fire one after the other. Gohan seems to realize how it can be used too, and starts thinking himself. "Yeah... two. Ah, Peppa! Pace, like walking. Make it more like... like... step by step." He sets his hot cocoa down and makes a motion of himself taking a step, first pulling his fist back. "Step..." You notice him start to channel his Ki. "By..." And then he punches forward, mimicking the Wind magic effect with a short puff of energy. "...Step."

Goku turns to you and wraps his arm around your shoulder. "That was a smart one, Maple. Nice job."

"Hey, I can't take all the credit here. They're just as driven and clever as their papa, once things are all in place." you say, planting a gentle kiss on his cheek. Looks like they'll do just fine in the upcoming Tournament.

To a degree, yes. But not as much of one as you do when you increase your melee stat.

What it does do is make for the effects caused by the Magical enhancement to be more effective. If you tried a Lightning-boosted Machinegun Punch on Vegeta, for example, it would definitely keep him stunned. Goku, it'd be harder to do significant damage, but you'd be able to get some good hits in.

Of course. That's why your magical enchantments have been working as well as they do, why your Clothes Beam has been getting better over time ad has been producing clothes that can take a lot of damage, healing has been getting slightly better, etc. Energy "Attack" is easier to understand, sure, but it is a more general stat of how Energy is used (compared to how much ammo you have as Ki).
