You are certain that, should this situation have arisen somewhere else, somewhere very far away, a girl named Sarah would have been booed at, admonished for metagaming.

And she would have argued back that old men in robes, unarmed but unafraid, who were essentially proposing some sort of vague omniscience aren't people that an experienceed adventurer would allow their guard down around.

Old men with ritual implements and ancient stone altars don't just pop out of nowhere.

Or maybe they do in dungeons?

The precise metaohysical nature of alternate dimenion ecosystems isn't your area of study.
You're a student of the nature of pointy objects, and this is field work- 'A treatise on how monsters react when stabbed with a spear, By L. Niallasdottir. Foreword By a moth.'

In any case, you've taken your distance from the old man, legs splayed just far enough to give you the acceleration you'd need to dodge something, spear held low and ready, armour forming up across your limbs as your companions hop free from your shell.

The old man gestures simply with his sickle, the altar grinding back into the stone platform so he can step forward over it.

He smiles, and the rustling of the fields all around you grow louder.

Step two: Throw a boulder at him.

Well, he can communicate somewhat with gesture. Oh, and he can control the stone.

Let's show him up by raising several stone chairs and a table for everyone. With an extra chair for him.

I would never let a moth write the foreword on any treatise of mine, but I guess we're just two different people/monsters.

>This is cheating, isn't it? Druids can't use metal items

Though as a druid wielding metal he'd probably just end up using a bevy of fire spells as well. Just to take the number of things druids usually frown up a notch

I'm hoping we're not in the fight phase yet.

Depends how he's depicted. Sworn guardian, protecting the path in a god-touched dungeon? Probably already dead? It he really wants to fight, we're not talking him out of it. I wouldnt mind a diplomancing, though.

oh, and we have to get nin and that bee to interact.
Either it will turn out awful, or they'll be self cancelling.

He's a druid. Probably. Definitely.
Stones and plants and he'll probably turn into a bear or something-

No, wait. That'd be awful. You can't eat a bear-person. Who would even do that? Make a bear you couldn't eat.

Cheating. This is definitely cheating, right?
This-

Druids can't use metal weapons. It's a rule. They lose their magic. Only wood and-

"Pfff- Kahahahah-"
"Huh?"
"What manner of nonsense are you spouting, little one?"

You frown.
"I am very large, yes."
"You are very young. And you have all sorts of strange ideas about magic, apparently. Why would metal of all things stop it, no matter from whence it came?"

"Isn't it... Something about spirits, I think? That the trees and spirits of the woods wouldn't let their representative wield their enemy?"
Was that how it went?

He laughs again.
"Absurd, absurd. A tree with an opinion? And nevermind the metal- Before there was steel, there was iron, and before iron, stone. Insects and animals eat the trees, storms and wind uproot them, the earth dries and they die- If I was to be limited to only things a plant would approve of, would I not attack you with a gentle spring shower and a few hours of sunlight?"

"Could you do that instead of whatever you were planning?"
"Dungeons don't quite work in that manner, I'm afraid."
"I tried, yes."

The rustling grows louder, and the blade in his hand glows, the crescent of the weapon gleaming with green light before he sweeps it towards you, the wind whistling into a blade that flies to crash into your spear, the metal creaking gently as you use it to block the blow.

That was definitely magic.
But there was no mana build-up, no spell forming, nothing.

A divine caster?

You knew he was cheating.

>Surround him, keep the fight up close!

You're already down one power to cheating dungeon druids, so you skip back as he approaches, and try another.

There's a moment of hesitance, a split second where the dungeon itself resists-

And that's what it is, you realize. The air around you, the stone and the wheat and the water and monsters. It's all from the same origin, that thing called a dungeon. The realization strikes you as odd, even as your will crushes that resistance, and your magic exerts itself over the stone at your feet-

-and the altar reappears, in a far more violent manner than it left in, the stones around it shattering to make way for the jutting stone.
There's a sensation beneath your feet, like you've taken ownership of this small piece of the dimension.

But all around that is the encroaching feeling of something else, pushing and pulling and striking, forcing its way back, the feeling fading even as the old man strikes the stone, the whole thing liquefying and passing him by like a broken wave.

He glances at your feet before laughing, and you're suddenly sure, absolutely positive, that he knows.

"I must admit," He chuckles as he circles you, pacing slowly, his eyes never leaving yours.
"We haven't had a guest with quite so many blessings in a very, very long time. You've quite the audience, dear."

"I usually carry my audience, yes."
"I'm not speaking of your little followers."
"I understand. I am trying to distract you."

You thrust loosely with your spear, aiming wide, then sweeping it towards him, trying to hook the wide guard of your weapon through his to wrench it loose.

He steps away, moving further than his stride should allow, adeptly slipping past your blow before dusting himself off.

"Well. I plan on starting soon."
"I thought that's what the wind was, yes."
"Just a greeting."
"You are worse than my mother."

With your senses wide open, you can feel the ground underfoot as you chase the man aceoss the hilltop.
It's fighting against you as much as he is, in its own way.

Even the tremors of footsteps are repressed, barest shadows of what they should be, the stone nothing but a fascimile of what it should be.

Your own authority presses against, spreading out from beneath you, fighting tooth and nail for every inch you wrench back into a semblance of reality.

The effort of simply allowing your power to run rampant presses in against your skull, so you change gears, keeping the ground beneath you for yourself, even as the old druid replicates your own move-

A gout of stone bursting from the ground, chasing after you.

You wield your area of control like a weapon, cutting the rushing spike's trail short, pressing out towards the old man, chasing him with your presence.

He grins wildly as he jumps away when your area reaches him, the rupture of stone spike shredding the robe hanging about his feet.

Jin swoops in , fire burning across her form as she tries to catch him midair-

But your friend finds herself turned around as the wind and sky become her enemy, twisting her off course. She puts on a burst of speed, sharply changing her direction to gain altitude, wrestling with the world turned enemy.

That's it, isn't it?
>>
>>48854793
"You aren't a mage at all, yes."
"Oho."
You glare at him.

"Are you the god himself? Or have they given you control here? That's what this is, isn't it?"

He laughs again, eyes sparkling, and the world around your answers him, river rising, wheat rippling out with each bark of laughter.
But not the ground beneath your feet. That much is steady and sturdy, proof against the absolute control he wields.

"Completely cheating, yes."
"Ah, ah, ah." He waggles his finger.

"This is a test, little one."

You click irritably.

I'd agree, but he trivially no-sold Jin. Without looking at her. Earlier, the first floor no-sold Ezzy. This dungeon seems be a turning challenge specifically for Lyra.

>I'd agree, but he trivially no-sold Jin.
Because Jin tried to brute force frontal attack in a test that seems quite obviously designed to counter that sort of strategy. All the previous dungeon floors were pretty much straight up brawls, now this tests another kind of skillset.

Nah, control over the dungeon probably doesn't translate into control over it's occupants. Unlike everything else in this place, he's probably as foreign an element as our band of plucky adventurers.
>>
>>48855103
In that way? Moth pollen? He controls air currents. Webbing? Not much chance at this point. At this point I'm expecting the earth to drop open under Sheszka. We are in a field; there are no riddles, puzzles, or places to hide.
>>
>>48855169
Distraction, quite obviously. He is one dude and can only pay attention to one thing at a time.

>>48855169
>Webbing? Not much chance at this point.
There is actually no reason we can't use webbing.
>>
>>48855169
Seems to me like the trick here is supposed to be teamwork to divide his attention between multiple people and strike him from a blindside.
>>
I say we use wrestling and webbing.

He can't control webs, and control of the field is meaningless if we've got him in a suplex.
>>
>>48855205
Webbing is probable our best bet since we can use them as an anchor for what's our reality
>>
>>48855238
Maybe, but I'm discouraged because he's been established to *be* the floor. How can you blindside that?
>>
>>48855261
>since we can use them as an anchor for what's our reality
I'm fairly sure we can't do that, but they are additional things for him to keep track off, between the monsters.

>>48855273
>because he's been established to *be* the floor
That has not been established actually.
>>
>>48855273
He controls the floor, I doubt he is a full on genius loci.
>>
>>48855286

"Are you the god himself? Or have they given you control here? That's what this is, isn't it?"

He laughs again, eyes sparkling, and the world around your answers him, river rising, wheat rippling out with each bark of laughter.
But not the ground beneath your feet. That much is steady and sturdy, proof against the absolute control he wields.

Key words, absolute control. Aware of everything. But whatever.
>>
>>48855336
>Key words, absolute control.
Uh anon, kinda misread that statement:

> proof against the absolute control
>PROOF AGAINST
Which is to say, it shows he doesn't have absolute control, thats the point. Also it says nothing of "aware of everything" nor does that say anywhere he is the floor, quite the opposite.
>>
>>48855336
That says nothing about him being the floor, its Lyra speculating about him having been given power over it.
>>
>>48855336
>Aware of everything
It doesn't say that anywhere.
And the entire point of that line you're quoting is how he doesn't have absolute control.

He is not the floor, he is someone with control over the floor, so the point remains that distracting him is very likely a valid and necessary tactic.
>>
I just realized that part of the reason that Lyra can affect this dungeon is most likely due to her "God of Rule" blessing mixing with her Earth blessing.
>>
>>48855488
I think the emphasis on "authority" implied that very hard yeah.
I'm not sure thats actually the case, but it seems very likely.
>>
You scowl.
"You haven't answered my question, yes."
"Does it matter?"

You click once, drawing it out.
"I'll pass anyway. Sheszka!"

He smiles as you close in on him, your adopted sister staying compact as she hurtles towards him from the side.

You presence is thinner, fighting back against the dungeon, but you keep your own path clear, and that of your wolf.
And overhead, Jin has made her own version of the trick.

Though, expectedly, hers involves a great deal more fire.

Well, she is a firebird, you suppose.

Your friend's form is wholly obscured by flame, burning blue-white around her, and she dives, timing herself to follow your attacks.

What did you do to deserve friends like this, exactly?
You never believed in anything like Karma, but this seems almost too much.

You match your spear with surging earth, and even as he wards it off, you push him left, diverting his path, and settling him into his destiny of meeting the incoming comet.

Jin's warbling hoot emerges from somewhere in the shrieking fireball before she slams into the druid, spinning him midair, claws and fire and near mach speeds slamming him back towards the earth as she pulls back into the sky, bright as the false sun overhead.

You're already moving to surround him again, keeping him in the circle of your friends, Sheszka smashing him towards you only a split-second after, the wolf diving and twisting midair, her whole body behind the blow.

He ricochets towards you, and you duck a swing of the sickle before you kick him away.

He lands, still laughing, though he certainly seems roughed up.

He swings his sickle, the sharp sound of air being cut echoing lightly as he laughs.
"Well done, well done-"

Your spear arrives a moment later, a textbook thrust embeded into your very soul at your mother's behest.

"That's a bit much, girl."

There's an angry screech of metal as your spear bends fully around, curling back till the point is facing you rather than your opponent.
"So then-"

Jin's call interrupts him, and she swoops right through him, hurtling past without touching him as he makes an irritated face at the departing harpy.
"See now-"

Sheszka doesn't drop her speed at all, simply ramming headfirst into his stomach and sending them both sprawling.

You feel terribly vindicated at that.

"Honestly, children, that's enough of that."
You huff.
"Try looking at it from this side, yes? Being called children, and run around by something like you."

"There, there. Haven't you learned things now?"

His form seems less... set. Less real. Like a flat image against a background.

"Like what a blessing can do, for example." He turns away from you. "Ah, no. Stay away from the- There you go. I like that field, please." He calls after Jin.

You keep your spear at the ready.
"So you are-"
"No, nothing like that. If they could appear in the world, it would be a great deal messier, I think."

"They're very selfish, you know."

"Don't you... serve one, yes?"

You bend your spear back into the correct alignment, metal glowing white hot for only a moment.

"You say that I've learned about blessings, but it does not feel like it, yes."
"Did you not feel the spread of your power? The grasp of your own will against the dungeon?"

You tilt your head and frown.

"Well, yes. But I do not understand. How is it different from magic? From the stones. What makes blessings special?"

He gives you an odd look.
"What do you think they are, exactly?"

"Hmm. Power? It is hard to say. I know they are from gods, yes? It says so. And I know they did not come from me. But when I use them- Use what they do, it feels like an extension of myself?"

"And what did you think they would be?"

"Something mystical? A miracle. I don't know. I woke up with them, yes? That is how I have recieved them. There is no ceremony, no divine being placing hands on your forehead, as their blessing takes hold."
"You've a rather fierce imagination, you know."
"I think it is a normal imagination, yes."

"Think of your blessing as your own domain. Like a-"

"No, no. Too far with that. More like... It grants you the god's permission. And the rest is up to you."
"That is... extremely vague. And does not explain what I did to the dungeon. Or what Jin did, yes."
"Think of it as consecrating the dungeon in another god's name, and using that piece."

"This is giving me a headache."
"Well, that is how it is."
"Fine, yes. Then what about magic?"
"What about it?"

"How is it different?"
"Magic is the phenomena of wielding mana to create an effect of some sort."
"So would magic have failed, then?"
"Oh, no. Magic works just fine here."

"Eh?"
"Magic doesn't entail stealing away a portion of a gods own dungeon, you know."

"Do you know what blessings I have, then?"
"Well, I've the gist of it, I suppose."
"Then, what are their limits?"

"Limits?"

"Yes. Is it me? Or the gods, or the blessings? I can call the earth and fire, but... there is more than that, isn't there?"
"Isn't that up to you to find?"

"That isn't helpful at all."
"Is it up to you, in the end. Each step and every choice, they're all yours. That was the greatest gift we ever recieved."
"Mm. Then I will learn sooner or later, yes."

He chuckles softly.

"Or perhaps you've already used it, without knowing it."

"You really are irritating, you know. Fine, yes. Will you tell me who the god of this dungeon is, then?"
"Did you not know already? This land belongs to the God of Harvest."

"... Nothing you did in that fight had anything to do with harvest, yes."
"And why would it have to? Outside, maybe. But here? Here, with my gods... permissions. Why would I have limits? This is all his, after all."
"I see. I wouldn't be allowed in a dungeon by the god of earth, would I."
"Well you might be allowed in. I rather doubt you'd find any rewards within, though."

Well, at least you've got some ideas from all this. If blessings can be applied in other ways, what else could you do? Make yourself like a mountain, impossible to knock over, or take the speed from fire?
It's something to think about.

"Well, in any case, this is as far as you go."
"There's more?"
"Of sorts. But I'm afraid he isn't much interested in blessing you, so this is the end."

"I'm not sure what I would do with a blessing from the god of harvest, anyway, yes."
"Make crops grow in strong each season. Increase the yield, assure good weather to some degree."
"I think I will be fine."
"You wouldn't even need any livestock."

"You'll only say it once, yes."

Mom is a long ways away, but spiders move fast. She's being a bit slowed down by her party at the moment.
The paladin is in the midst of something of a crisis of faith.

Elle is Elle, and is reveling in her new and more colourful form.
Brothers have appropriately taken up the duties of the nest- They watch the ruins, help the moths, hunt and sleep. And occasionally compete in absurd competitions, usually designed to favour one over the other, in order to come out on top. Things like ambushing each other, or stealing kills, or 'who can catch the most fish with just their mouth'.

Sara will most likely find herself fast tracked out of the school and recommended to a rival institution. She'll also be highly grateful for it.

Aria is continuing her adventures, dungeon delving and being completely ignorant of people flirting with her.
On the plus side, her party is now highly protective of her since learning her age. They also believe that Lyra and Mom are most likely Seranthis size, as they can't quite understand how living creatures could accomplish what Aria attributes to them.

Them being reality marbles explains why its so incrwdibly easy to form huge constructions like entire baths and arenas with it, Lyra is literally enforcing her mindvision of the structure on reality.
That has some interesting implications with Fire and Forge blessings.
Also explaind why Lyras and Jins fire blessing give different abilities, Jins fire blessing lets her become a comet because thats what she wanted.

>mom and us are giants to aria's party
haw haw haw haw

we have to meet them one day
>>
>>48857811
>They also believe that Lyra and Mom are most likely Seranthis size, as they can't quite understand how living creatures could accomplish what Aria attributes to them.

One day they will learn. either mom will go to visit Aria or they will run into us in a ruin, but they will learn

Technically Oricalcum is an alloy of copper, zinc, and traces of nickel, lead, and iron. At least that's the current theory.
>>
>>48857750
Nah, no blessing will override free will. It's the one thing guaranteed by the gods.
There's magic and the like that can do it, but it's utterly forbidden.

>>48857827
The paladin is being dragged, and the others are following because it seems like it'll be fun.

And you say that like Mom is a rational creature in regards to her children.

>>48857838
It's nice to see you around! I'll keep an eye on my email if there's anything you need.

Aria is exaggerating a bit, but she's got a certain impression of her mother and sister.

You just aren't bullshitting hard enough.
The King is the embodiment of the Kingdom. Therefore, the Kingdom is the body of the King. Can a man not move his body at his will?
Mankind is the Body of Christ, who is of God and the Kingdom of Heaven; the King rules Man by the Divine Right granted by God. The King rules the Body and is the Embodiment; therefore, the King is by Right Divine.

Long story short we ought to be able to ride this train to omnipotence.

man, our brothers are the only ones who care about arachne stuff

It's probably a very long road to get there but yeah. I figure there's a good reason that not many people get the blessing of ruleship.

Now I'm imagining Lyra and gottagofastIseemomIcanoutrunherright? I'm sure she'll take the new evolution with dignity and calm.

Any snek evolutions soon? Ezzy did fight a giant monster. For her. Kinda.
>>
>>48857796
Presumably we'd have to explain gravity and tides to Sheszka first.
>>
>>48857974
I imagine mom is going to catch us while we're dicking around eating all the corndogs off of a food vendor.

>>48857919
It's kind of pointless to ask, since you probably don't know yet, but I hope another thread is soon.
>>
Update on pastebins when?
>>
>>48857919
so what you are saying is when she gets here, we can ask her why she never used dad's messaging spell.
To which dad will say she never asked.
ANGER DIVISION MOVE

I desperately need to update the pastes. And Ezzy is closing in on her evolution. It won't be long.

>>48858010
I'll try to aim for another next week. It's crazy busy at the moment, with budgets being finalized, but I should catch a break soon.
Or I can use some vacation days, I guess. I'll look at giving myself a long weekend.

>>48858045
The spell isn't really that reliable. He still uses letters and the like.
>>
to be perfectly fair very little of it is actually Lyra's fault, I mean the Duke was the one who came up with the plan and it would be rude not to go along with it. And for the crown of fire, I mean it was an evolution it's no more her fault then it is her fault that her butt is a skull.

And then people just kind of assumed, she has done nothing but tell people that she was not a queen when confronted with the issue.
>>
>>48858074
don't bust out the vacation days, those are for you.
Just, you know, I love having threads. They brighten my day.

also,
>ellevolution
shiiit, things are getting bad at the homestead
>>
>>48858097
like any of that matters!
>>
>>48858097
I wonder how long until lyra is unwillingly throned.
No, fuck that, I wonder how long until lyra's face makes it onto stamps or coins. Nin is already well down that path.
