>>Information

This quest, as the title suggests, takes place in the world of Dragon Ball. You're playing as a nineteen year old man named Tofoo, and will adventure through the story of the Dragonball series alongside characters such as Goku, Yamcha, Bulma, Tien, and many others. Through your actions, you can make significant changes to the story, and perhaps even become the strongest fighter on Earth.

>Rules

At the end of each update you'll have ten minutes to vote on options. Write-ins are allowed, but I do reserve the right to veto them.

In the event of a draw, the option to receive the next vote wins

Rolls will be used on certain occasions, such as attempting a technique for the first time or attempting something extremely difficult. You will have three rolls, and if one succeeds, you succeed. There are no crits.

Rolls are made AFTER an option wins, not during the voting process

I hope everyone has fun.

The preliminaries carry on much as you would expect.

Your remaining friends easily win their matches, and you take care to observe them as they fight.

Krillin's speed is incredible, telling you he probably went under intense weight training over the past three years. He ends each match with a single strike, sending his foes flying from the ring.

Similarly, Tenshinhan ends his matches quickly, identifying openings in the defense of his opponents, and disabling them in precise strikes, ending each fight with a single blow.

Yamcha doesn't bother with analysis or defense; he knows he outclasses his foes and doesn't waste any time. He just rushes in there and wins fast.

Chichi has superb form, and a great deal of power behind her attacks. Her training with Krillin has done wonders for her, and, based on what you're seeing, she could have very well won the last tournament with the skills she displaying.

You don't bother too much with Goku's matches, only barely watching your friend disable his opponents before they can even think about touching him.

And of course, you defeat your second opponent easily.

These matches are probably a poor way of measuring the strength of your friends, however, and you won't know the full extent of their skills until they step into the ring.

Tao and Piccolo easily win their battles as well; and each match ends with another fighter being carried out on a stretcher. In Piccolo's final match, he nearly kills his opponent, squeezing the poor man's throat until he passes out.

"Sir, you win, please let go of your opponent!" the announcer shouts to the demon.

Piccolo releases his grip, letting the unconscious warrior fall to the ground.

"Majunior advances to the semifinals!" the official declares.

"Majunior?" Krillin repeats from next to you.

If the previous matches were any indicator, Yamcha should win this next match no problem. Besides, you need to be ready for when they call you up.

The crowd's mostly cleared out by this point, with less than two dozen fighters remaining in the contest hall. You spot another being carried out on a stretcher, and hear the announcement that Tao will be going on to the quarterfinals.

The cyborg mercenary smirks in your direction, and you find yourself wondering why Tenshinhan thinks he can make a man like that see reason.

Then again, Tenshinhan was pretty bad himself just a few years ago.

Your name's soon called, and you step into the ring, finding yourself pitted against a tall, extremely muscular man with long, reddish brown hair.

He laughs to himself as he cracks his knuckles.

"BEGIN!" the official calls.

The man runs right for you.

This guy is nothing.

Moving faster than he could possibly hope to keep track of, you get behind him as he rushes across the stage, and strike before he even processes that you've made any movements.

A simple tap to the back of his neck is all it takes, and he slumps to the ground, falling flat on his face as he slips into unconsciousness.

"Winner!" the official calls. "Tofoo will proceed to the quarterfinals!"

Stepping out of the ring, you look over to see Yamcha's match not quite over. This is especially surprising given the appearance of the man Yamcha's fighting.

He doesn't look strong, or even like any kind of martial artist you've ever seen. He's a small, scrawny, middle-aged looking man with dark hair, glasses, and a mustache that reminds you of someone you saw some history shows talking about.

A guy like that should have been taken down in half a second by Yamcha, yet here he stands, looking relaxed and unharmed.

Meanwhile, Yamcha seems to be breathing heavily, and you think you see a bruise on his left cheek.

You decide that this match might be worth watching after all. You've never seen this fighter before, and if he's able to keep pace with, or even defeat Yamcha, he might be worth keeping an eye on.

Slowly walking over to your friends, you look into the ring, where the dorky looking man gives Yamcha a laugh before speaking in a somewhat obnoxious voice.

"Maybe you should quit now," the man tells Yamcha. "Save yourself further embarrassment."

You can hear Yamcha growl.

"No need to get angry," the man says, sounding both nervous and sincere. "I know it must be frustrating to be outclassed in your chosen profession, but getting upset won't fix it."

"I am NOT outclassed, old man!" Yamcha declares with venom, extending his right arm, facing his palm toward the ceiling, and curling his fingers upward.

He holds his right hand steady by grabbing the wrist with his left hand, and the upturned hand begins to glow, sparks periodically visible behind his fingers.

"I have plenty of trick ready for use!" Yamcha promises, the glow from his hand becoming more intense. "Let me give you an example of the kind of destruction you can cause with pure spirit energy."

"Sounds dangerous," the man says, staring at Yamcha's hand.

"For you, only the best!" Yamcha declares, focusing his energy.

The man's eyes widen behind his glasses, and he drops into a defensive stance. "Well, don't go to too much trouble on my account."

A ball of light flashes into being above Yamcha's palm, floating there as the scar-faced warrior fixes his foe with a glare.

"Have a taste of my Spirit Ball!" Yamcha shouts, throwing the attack toward the man.

Surprisingly spry for an old guy, the man spins out of the way, letting the ball shoot right past his chest.

Yamcha isn't finished, though, and brings the attack back around, aiming to strike his opponent with it from behind.

The old man glances over his shoulder, letting out a yelp before ducking and covering his head with his hands. Once again, Yamcha's attack flies right by him.

Groaning in frustration, Yamcha redirects the attack once again, sending it up near the ceiling before dropping it like a meteor down on the old man, who jumps back just in time to evade it.

The Spirit Ball passes through the floor of the ring, and the old man lets out a relieved sigh, wiping sweat from his brow.

"Don't get comfortable!" Yamcha warns an instant before the Spirit Ball erupts from the floor beneath the old man.

This time, the old man is caught off-guard, and the attack smacks him in the chin, knocking his head back and throwing him into the air before dissipating.

"How was that, old timer?" Yamcha mocks as the old man falls to the ground.

"Well, looks like it's over," Krillin comments.

But, the old man sits back up, rubbing his jaw as he gets back to his feet.

"Not bad, you have some good attacks," he compliments Yamcha. "But, your defense needs some work."

You feel a surge of energy as he dashes across the ring, striking Yamcha with a powerful kick before there's even time to react.

Crying out in surprise, Yamcha is thrown from the ring, and crashes to the floor.

"Contestant Shen proceeds to the semifinals!" the official declares, and you briefly see Shenron in your mind's eye.

Not a strange reaction, given whose energy you just felt. But why would he come here? Wasn't the whole point of your training so that you and Goku could do what he couldn't?

Rubbing the back of his head bashfully, "Shen" turns and hops out of the ring.

Just when you thought this tournament had gotten complicated enough, this happens. You aren't sure the reason, but Kami has come to the tournament.

Goku watches "Shen" leave, and you can tell that he's figured it out, too. Probably sooner if he was watching the match from the beginning.

"Would the eight finalists please gather over here?!" the announcer from the previous two tournaments shouts. "We will begin drawing numbers momentarily!"

Giving another glance toward Shen, Goku heads in the direction of the announcer.

As you begin heading over, you approach Shen, who briefly looks your way but gives no further acknowledgement.

"You could've mentioned that you were coming, too," you whisper to him as the two of you make your way across the contest hall.

"I'll explain everything later," he promises before walking ahead of you.

The group gathers in front of the announcer, who seems to have grown a new mustache. He looks at you and Krillin like he's seen a ghost, but doesn't say anything, probably due to having come back from the dead as well.

"Welcome, finalists," he greets. "You eight fighters have made it to the quarterfinals, and so you will fight the remaining matches of the tournament in front of the crowd. The winner will walk away with five hundred thousand zeni, and the title of "World Champion of Martial Arts"!. Now, you all know the rules; no killing, no leaving the ring, no weapons, and as a general note, please check your costumes before stepping into the ring."

A member of the temple staff brings out a wooden box, handing it to the announcer.

"Now, you will all choose numbers which will determine the order in which you fight," the announcer explains. "All match-ups are final, and trades are not allowed. First up, Goku."

Goku steps forward, reaching into the box and pulling out a slip.

"I got number eight," he announces, moving to rejoin the group.

"Next up, Mercenary Tao," the announcer calls.

Tao steps forward and draws a slip, getting the number two.

"Chichi," the announcer calls, and she steps forward, drawing her slip.

"Six," she tells him before going to stand beside Krillin.

"Tofoo," the announcer says, calling your name.

You reach into the box, pulling out a slip with the number four on it.

The announcer writes down your number as you return to the group.

"Next up, Krillin," the announcer calls.

Krillin walks over, grabbing his slip and chuckling to himself when he sees the number on it.

"Okay, that's a seven," the announcer tells him. "You'll be fighting Goku in the fourth match."

Krillin and Goku grin at each other.

"So, we'll finally have the match we missed out on three years ago," Krillin says excitedly.

"Yeah, I can't wait," Goku tells him.

"Next, Tenshinhan," the announcer says.

Tenshinhan draws the number one, and glances over at Tao, who gives him an unsettling smirk.

Tenshinhan looks like he's dreading this confrontation, and you don't envy him the experience. Given his history with Tao, you don't think he'll get through the match unscathed, whether physically or emotionally.

"Shen," the announcer says, and the old man steps forward, reaching into the box.

His eyes go wide when he sees the number.

"I-I got a three," he tells the announcer.

"Well, that puts you against Tofoo in the second match," the announcer says, writing it on the board. "And that means Majunior will be fighting Chichi in match three."

"What?!" Krillin asks, horrified.

Piccolo smirks, giving an amused chuckle, while Chichi fixes the demon with a look of hatred and determination.

"The quarterfinals will begin in one hour," the announcer tells you all. "Tenshinhan, Mercenary Tao, make sure you're here on time."

"Of course," the cyborg says. "I wouldn't miss it."

You need to speak to Shen as soon as possible. You can talk with Roshi, Bulma, Oolong and the others later, and it's probably best if you let Krillin and Chichi have their inevitable argument by themselves.

Shen begins to slink away, but soon sees you following him and nods toward the corner on the far side of the room.

The two of you walk over there together, and you lean against the wall, facing Shen.

"I'm sure you have many questions," Kami says, still in that strange voice.

"What was the point of training Goku and me if you're just going to try and solve this yourself?" you demand.

He kept you on the Lookout for three years, insisting that you couldn't leave and had to devote all of your time to training. He claimed that you and Goku would be ready to stop Piccolo by the time the training was complete, yet here he is, his presence telling you that he doesn't think you two can handle it, that after all of his training, he still has no faith in you.

"I was not my intent to become involved in this tournament," Kami tells you calmly. "I had planned to allow you and Goku to deal with this problem on your own. Unfortunately, a small mistake made that plan less viable."

"What mistake?" you ask.

"I believe that Goku has become a liability to this plan," Kami explains, looking down. "I am unconvinced that he has the power needed to defeat Piccolo alone. In fact, I'm unsure if either of you could best him alone. Together, the two of you could win, but Goku's desire to win this tournament will not allow that, nor will it allow him to do what is necessary, and kill Piccolo. Even when the tournament is over, he will no longer be able to bring himself to kill Junior."

"Why are you even competing?" you ask incredulously. "If you're so worried about this, why not just ambush Piccolo?"

"This disguise has allowed me to escape Piccolo's notice," Kami explains, pointing to the body. "And competing in the tournament will give me the chance I need to get close to him. He will see me as a feeble old man in the best case. Or, in the worst case, he will see me as a powerful human. He will underestimate me if he does not know my true identity. Furthermore, were I to confront him outside the ring, he would simply move to kill me. If I face him in the tournament, he will show a restraint that I will not, which will allow me to win."

"Well, what's the point of you and I fighting?" you ask him. "We'll just tire each other out before either of us have the chance to face Piccolo."

"I did not intend to be matched against you," Kami answers. "In all honesty, I had hoped to face off against Goku. I could have removed him from the equation, and either you or I would have defeated Piccolo. I am sorry that I must now take that chance away from you."

You give him a challenging look; he hasn't taken anything yet. You aren't going to throw the match, and you aren't going to let yourself be beaten.

Seeing that look, Kami smiles. "Or, you can think of this as a test. If you can defeat me, I will know that you have the power to deal with Piccolo."

"One more thing," you say. "Why won't Goku kill Piccolo?"

"Mr. Popo let some information slip that I'd have rather Goku not been made privy to," Kami explains.

"And that is?" you prompt.

"Do you remember three years ago when I said that a being cannot strangle itself?" Kami asks. "Piccolo and I are bound by the same thread. If one of us dies, so too does the other."

"But," you continue. "It's not like I'll beat him with one hit. So, if a way of stopping Piccolo without killing you comes up before I have the chance to kill him, I'll do it instead."

Kami chuckles. "Good. I'll accept my death if it comes, but I won't race headlong into it if another option becomes available. I will do what is necessary, and that is all."

He turns away from you, beginning to walk off before stopping after a few short feet and glancing over his shoulder.

"You still have some time left," he tells you. "Why not spend it with your friends? I know you missed them a great deal."

With that, he departs, leaving you alone in the contest hall.

Well, mostly alone.

"You asked her to forfeit, huh?" you ask Krillin without looking at him.

"What else was I supposed to do?" he asks you sadly. "We both know she isn't ready to fight him. I don't want her getting hurt."

It's true. Chichi's progress is incredible, but you know there's no way she can defeat Piccolo. Were she facing one of his children, she'd have a chance, but against the Demon King himself, she doesn't have a prayer.

"And she didn't take it well," you observe, still looking forward.

"Nope," Krillin answers. "Didn't you hear the shouting?"

He gives you a little laugh, trying to inject some humor into a bad situation.

"Does she think she can take on Piccolo?" you ask, glancing at your friend.

He nods. "She says that's what she's been training for this whole time. She wants to get revenge for what he did to me, and beat him before he has the chance to hurt me again."

His cheeks turn red. "I really appreciate that, but she isn't going to do anyone any good by going out there and getting creamed."

"Of course," you tell him, then groan as one of the implications comes to you. "Aww, that means I have to get a suit, doesn't it?"

Krillin chuckles. "That's part of it, man. But thanks, really. Thanks for everything."

The two of you hang out together as you wait for the quarterfinals to begin, reminiscing about old adventures, discussing training, and plans for what comes after the tournament.

Soon enough, the other competitors begin to return, and you notice Chichi give Krillin an angry look when she comes into the room.

Tenshinhan sits in a corner and meditates, while Tao heads for the entryway by the ring, waiting to go out and have his match.

Goku heads outside to watch the match, and Shen finds a quiet place to sit.

Outside, you can hear the announcer addressing the screaming crowd, reminding them of the rules of the matches, as well as the prize that the winner will receive.

You can feel the excitement from the audience, and a mix of emotions from the other fighters.

Tao reeks of confidence and anticipation.

Tenshinhan is clearly quite nervous and distraught over the coming fight.

Goku seems calm, cool, and collected, but also very eager to begin.

Krillin seems a bit dejected.

You can feel the rage coming off Chichi, and the burning determination in her heart. You have to admire her drive.

Shen remains pretty much unreadable, and appears to be lost in thought.

The matches are about to start, and you want to see the battle between Tenshinhan and Mercenary Tao.

Getting up off the floor, you and Krillin head outside to join Goku, and you do your best to ignore the stare of Tao as you make your way over to your friend.

"Our first match will feature a veteran of the last tournament," the announcer informs the audience. "Tenshinhan, who made it to the semifinals last time, but was disqualified due to outside interference. Now, he has returned to redeem himself, and will face off against the legendary assassin, Mercenary Tao!"

Tenshinhan steps outside, not making eye contact with Tao as he approaches the ring. You can feel the nervousness rolling off of him, and so can Tao.

"Relax," he tells Tenshinhan. "I won't kill you in the ring; only wound you. I will finish you off once I am champion. For now, enjoy the crowd's adulation."

Tenshinhan says nothing as he and Tao step into the ring, crossing to opposite sides and facing one another.

"Just like old times, huh?" Tao asks, grinning.

"Yes..." Tenshinhan says softly.

"You seem nervous," Tao observes. "Don't be. Pain should come easy to you."

The two of them take fighting stances.

"Tenshinhan has his work cut out for him," Krillin comments.

"I don't think so," Goku tells him.

You take a moment to feel out the energy of the two warriors. Tenshinhan's is incredible. He's clearly come a very long way from the last time you saw him; probably enough to give even you and Goku a serious challenge.

Tao is...odd. You can feel his energy, but somehow it just feels wrong, like you aren't getting all of it. Maybe that's because so much of his body has been replaced by machinery. What you can sense is pretty strong, probably stronger than the last time you fought him. But, it's still not all that impressive compared to Tenshinhan. Hell, with this level of energy, Chaozu should have been able to defeat him.

"This should be an interesting match," you tell the others.

"You can say that again," Krillin says in agreement.

"Begin!" the announcer shouts.

Neither fighter moves.

The two of them maintain the combat stances they're in, neither warrior moving so much as a muscle, and neither taking their eyes off of the other for a second.

You see sweat begin to drip down Tenshinhan's face, and you pray that his nervousness does not get the best of it.

For nearly ten minutes, the two fighters continue in this way, neither one moving, speaking, or doing anything. You can feel the crowd becoming increasingly bored, and can feel the impatience coming off the announcer.

"Well, folks, the tournament has just begun, and already we have us a good, old-fashioned standoff!" the announcer tells the crowd. "And, I think I speak for everyone when I say JUST GET ON WITH IT BEFORE WE ALL DIE OF BOREDOM."

"Man, Tenshinhan's so scared, he can't even move," Krillin comments.

"It's Tao that can't move," Goku corrects.

Looking more closely, you find that Goku is correct.

Tenshinhan has adopted a defensive stance; and it's perfect. No part of his body is unguarded, and that means Tao has no clear path of attack that won't leave him vulnerable. Any move he makes against Tenshinhan risks injury, and so he's been spending this time trying to work out the least-risky plan of attack.

"Alright, let's begin!" Tao shouts, rushing across the ring with blinding speed.

Tenshinhan sidesteps at the last moment, delivering a blow to the back of Tao's head.

The mercenary staggers forward, rubbing his metallic cranium while Tenshinhan stares at him with shocked, wide eyes.

"And Tenshinhan lands the first hit!" the announcer shouts.

Tao looks back at Tenshinhan, looking surprised for a few moments before a smile worms its way onto his face.

"So, you've improved a bit," he observes. "Good; I won't have to hold back nearly as much as I'd expected."

Tenshinhan takes a deep breath, the fear seemingly gone from him as he gets back into a fighting stance.

Goku may be right. Maybe Tenshinhan does have this.

"Prepare yourself!" Tao roars, speeding across the ring to attack once again.

He moves much faster this time, and Tenshinhan is caught completely off-guard as Tao delivers a chop down his chest.

Tenshinhan steps back in surprise, looking down to see that his shirt has been cut, and that Tao's chop has a left a rather large cut in his chest.

Tao chuckles, examining the blood on his hand from the attack.

"So, you bleed just as easily as you did back then," he remarks.

Tenshinhan looks at the wound in shock, then narrows his eyes, glaring at Tao and clenching his hands back into fists.

"Tao, I have to say something," he tells the other martial artist.

"What? That you give up?" Tao mocks.

"No," Tenshinhan tells him softly. "I want to ask you not to do this."

"Say again?"

"You don't need to do this. You taught me much of what made me the man I am today, and for that, I will always be grateful," Tenshinhan tells him. "But this path you walk; murder, terror, it isn't right."

Tao scowls. "My brother was right. That fool Roshi's been filling your head with garbage."

"No," Tenshinhan tells him ."That isn't it. I am no student of Master Roshi, either. But, he did show me that I didn't belong with Master Shen. I wasn't meant to be a monster; I could choose. And, so can you."

Tao stares at him for a long moment, then, a smile comes to his face.

"You're right, I can choose," Tao tells him.

He speeds across the ring again, quickly closing in on Tenshinhan.

"AND I CHOOSE THIS!"

He aims a claw-strike at Tenshinhan's throat, but the other warrior manages to parry it, answering with a knee to Tao's gut.

Tao clutches his gut, staggering back as Tenshinhan gives him a pleading look.

"I don't want to see you humiliated," he tells Tao. "Please, step out of the ring with some dignity."

>Continued

>>48731052
Tao looks up at him, that scowl back on his face.

"You're as arrogant as ever, Tenshinhan," he declares. "It seems you've forgotten who you're dealing with. It seems hard to believe you would forget the beatings I gave you. You were never a match for me, and nothing has changed."

Tenshinhan frowns, dropping into a fighting stance. "We'll see."

Tao chuckles, raising his right hand and pointing at Tenshinhan.

"DODON RAY!"

A thin beam of light shoots from one of his mechanical fingers, heading right for Tenshinhan, who bats it out of the way.

Rather than being discouraged, Tao seems pleased with this.

"Good, this might be a worthy test of my new abilities after all," Tao tells him, holding his right palm toward the triclopes.

"NOW TRY TO STOP THIS!" he yells, firing a large wave of energy from his hand.

Tenshinhan firmly plants his feet on the ground, letting out a yell and thrusting his hands toward the blast. The wave stops just short of his hands, and is redirected into the sky.

But, doing this temporarily obstructs Tenshinhan's view, and Tao uses the opportunity to get in close, delivering a strong knee-strike to Tenshinhan's gut.

Tenshinhan hunches over, letting out a pained gasp before Tao elbows him in the back of the head, sending him crashing face-first into the ground.

"Now, this seems more like old times, doesn't it?" Tao asks.

Growling, Tenshinhan kicks Tao's legs out from under him, but the cyborg quickly falls into a backwards handspring, using it to gain some distance. Tenshinhan gives chase, and the two collide near the center of the ring, exchanging blows furiously.

Neither one can land a hit for several seconds, until Tenshinhan manages to elbow Tao in the face. Tenshinhan moves in for a followup attack, but Tao catches the punch he throws, and in a quick motion breaks Tenshinhan's arm over his knee.

"No!" Krillin shouts from your side.

Tenshinhan steps back, clutching his broken arm as Tao gives a laugh.

"Come now, I've given you worse," the cyborg tells Tenshinhan.

"This is bad," Goku says.

"That's putting it mildly," Krillin tells him. "How's Tenshinhan going to fight with one arm?"

Tenshinhan glares at his foe, dropping into the best defensive stance he can manage with one arm as he fights off the pain.

"You're still going to fight?" Tao asks. "You always were stubborn. That trait could have made you a great warrior, but now it will only prolong your suffering."

"This isn't over yet," Tenshinhan promises.

"Maybe, but your chances of victory have slipped even further," Tao replies. "Without the use of both arms, you can't use the Kikoho, not that you'd dare attempt it in a tournament. The Solar Flare is also out of the question. And, you know the Dodonpa will only slow me down at best."

"You're forgetting a technique," Tenshinhan says, chuckling. "The Four Witches."

Tao frowns.

Tenshinhan locks the elbow of his good arm at his side, grinding his teeth as he focuses his energy. Soon, he begins to cry out in exertion and pain, and you can see two lumps appear in his back. As he lets out a final cry, those lumps grow into two arms.

"Maybe I couldn't do much with one arm," Tenshinhan admits. "But how about three?"

"Hmm, so you've decided to dust that one off," Tao muses, laughing as he gets back into a fighting stance. "That's fine with me. I will be more than happy to break three more arms."

You continue to watch the battle, and Tenshinhan wastes no time, rushing in and attacking Tao with three arms.

He strikes at various spots from various angles, putting Tao on his toes during the attempt to muster a defense.

The cyborg is quickly pushed back across the ring, and Tenshinhan manages to catch him off-guard with a knee-strike to the jaw.

As Tao's head is thrown back, Tenshinhan batters him with punches from each of his three hands, mercilessly pounding the cyborg assassin with an endless flurry of punches.

An uppercut throws Tao into the air, but the cyborg quickly recovers, diving down at Tenshinhan, and firing another Dodon Ray.

Tenshinhan deflects it, and lets out a yell as he thrusts his other two hands toward Tao, using his energy to create a gust of wind that sends the mercenary back into the sky. He leaps up after Tao, and delivers several more strong punches before ending the combo with a double-axe-handle that sends Tao crashing into the ring below.

Tenshinhan lands in a crouch a few feet away from his fallen foe, struggling to catch his breath.

"This may be it, ladies and gentlemen," the announcer calls. "I'll begin the count! One! Two!"

Tao stirs, and pushes himself back up, getting to his feet and smirking at Tenshinhan.

"Impressive," he tells his former student. "You found the strength to match me, even if it was only for a few seconds."

You see what happened, now. Tenshinhan gave himself a boost of power, but in doing so burnt through all of his energy much too quickly, leaving him drained.

"That was quite the gamble," Tao tells him. "But it doesn't seem to have paid off. You're exhausted, and I'm still standing. Prepare yourself for pain."

Tao advances on Tenshinhan, who rises back up to face his former teacher.

"Not yet," Tenshinhan tells Tao between ragged breaths. "I still have one trick left up my sleeve."

Tao throws back his head, laughing. "You really don't know when to quit, do you?"

A glow surrounds Tenshinhan, his entire body becoming silhouetted in light. As you watch in amazement, a second silhouette slides out of the first, standing beside it. The two silhouettes then split into two more silhouettes, making four total.

The light fades, and there there once was one Tenshinhan, there are now four.

"The Afterimage Technique?" Goku asks.

"No," you answer. "This is different."

You can feel energy from each Tenshinhan, suggesting that he may have actually split himself into four people. But, something's wrong. Each of them is far weaker than the original.

Tao looks at the four in surprise. "Unbelievable. You've split yourself into four bodies."

"I call it the Multiform technique," Tenshinhan tells him. "What do you think?"

"An impressive trick," Tao admits. "But against me it will do you no good. I can already see the fatal flaw."

Tenshinhan's eyes widen. "What do you mean?"

Tao yells, dashing across the ring. "You've split your power four ways! Each of you are weak!"

He reaches the first Tenshinhan and gives a knee-strike that sends the copy to the ground. He then rushes between the others, dispatching each one with swift punches.

All four Tenshinhans lie helpless on the ground, and Tao approaches the nearest one.

"I wonder what happens if I destroy one of you," Tao remarks. "Better not to test it here, I might be disqualified."

The four Tenshinhans pick themselves back up, quickly running to one another, and becoming surrounded by another glow. As you watch, the four silhouettes join together, turning back into a single Tenshinhan.

"I'm disappointed," Tao tells him. "I thought you were above such amateur mistakes. "

Tenshinhan continues to try and catch his breath. "I won't let you win this fight."

Once again, Tao laughs. "What could you possibly do? You've lost one of your arms, and most of your energy. I suppose you could try putting it all into a single Dodonpa, but I could easily dodge that."

"Hmm?" Tao frowns.

Tenshinhan slowly rises into the air, climbing higher and higher above the ring, until he's almost reached the clouds.

"Tenshinhan has taken to the air!" the announcer shouts. "Perhaps hoping to buy himself some time to recuperate, but will it be enough?"

The two arms on Tenshinhan's back reach around his body, palms smacking together and spreading apart as their fingers create a diamond.

For the first time in the match, Tao looks truly afraid.

"You can't be serious," he declares, laughing nervously. "YOU WOULDN'T!"

Sparks dance around Tenshinhans's fingers, and you feel the hairs on the back of your neck beginning to stand up.

"YOU FOOL!" Tao shouts up at him. "YOU'LL DIE!"

Tenshinhan stares right back at him, no trace of fear on his face. His breathing has become rapid, and you fear that he's nearly out of his energy.

"KIKOHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!"

A massive blast of light shoots down from Tenshinhan's palms, and Tao lets out a horrified scream, raising his arms to defend himself as it impacts, the shockwaves throwing you, Goku, and Krillin off of your feet, and shaking the entire arena.

The flash on the impact is blinding, and a massive cloud of dust is thrown everywhere from the impact. The audience screams, and the announcers terrified cries can be heard as he shouts into the microphone.

Picking yourself back up, you struggle to see through the smoke, which clears to reveal a massive, diamond-shaped hole where Tao had been standing.

Looking up to the sky, you see Tenshinhan take a few more breaths before his eyes close, his body slumping forward as he falls from the sky.

He slams into the ring hard enough to crack several of the tiles, but doesn't make a sound, lying completely still and silent.

As the crowd's panic dies down, the announcer composes himself and begins speaking.

Poor Tien. He either lost or murdered Tao and got disqualified again.
>>
>>48731774
Do KO. Or we find out that the mechanical parts aren't necessary for Tao to live and he is disqualified.
>>
>>48731711
"Tenshinhan has fallen!" the announcer tells the unsettled crowd. "And there seems to be no sign of mercenary Tao! It appears as though Tenshinhan may have killed his opponent, and if that's the case, then he will be disqualified!"

The reactions in the crowd are mixed, and you're pretty sure you can hear Launch cursing at the announcer.

"What in the world was that?" Krillin asks as he picks himself back up.

"That was incredible," Goku comments as he gets back up. "I had no idea Tenshinhan had that kind of power."

"No kidding," Krillin agrees. "But he may have gone a little overboard. He's going to be disqualified."

A hand reaches out of the hole in the ground, pressing down on the floor of the ring as another hand joins it. Palms pushing down on the tiles, they lift Mercenary Tao out of the hole."

His clothes are ruined, and he has some scorchmarks, but he's alright.

"How could anyone have survived that?" Krillin asks in disbelief.

"Tenshinhan didn't have enough energy," you answer. "If he'd used that move in the beginning, Tao would be gone."

"Uh...folks, Mercenary Tao is back ,"the announcer tells the audience. "And since he was technically still in the ring, I'll start the ten count for Tenshinhan."

"Don't bother," Tao tells the man, slowly walking to Tenshinhan and kneeling beside him.

He puts two fingers to Tenshinhan's neck, checking for a pulse.

"He's alive," Tao announces as he stands back up. "But he won't be waking up any time soon. Let me save you the trouble of doing the ten count."

Pulling his right leg back, Tao kicks Tenshinhan from the ring, the other fighter's unconscious body hitting the wall and falling to the ground.

"Tenshinhan!" Krillin shouts, running toward the fighter.

You rush right after Krillin, making your way to your fallen friend, and pulling a Senzu Bean from your gi.

"One of Korin's beans?" Krillin asks.

You force the bean into Tenshinhan's mouth, and get him to swallow it. His eyes shoot open, and he sits up, looking at you in the others in confusion.

"What in the world happened?" he asks.

"How are you awake?" Tao asks from the ring.

You glare up at the cyborg as he stares down at you and the others, a bead of sweat dripping down his face.

"Using the Kikoho should have killed you," Tao tells Tenshinhan. "And even though it didn't, you should not have been able to just get right back up. Your life was hanging on by a thread."

"So...I lost," Tenshinhan sighs in disappointment.

"You should be thankful to be breathing," Tao lectures him. "At least for now. When this tournament is over, I will finish you once and for all."

Tao turns and walks back toward the contest hall, leaving you and the others behind.

"I can't believe it," Tenshinhan whispers.

"Hey, chin up," Krillin tells him. "You were great out there. That Kikoho thing was the most amazing attack I've ever seen!"

"Yeah, it was pretty incredible," Goku agrees.

"Now, get some rest," you tell Tenshinhan. "You earned it."

"The winner is Tao!" the announcer declares. "But, let's also hear it for Tenshinhan, who displayed endurance and resolve that can only be described as super-human!"

The crowd roars in approval of Tenshinhan, and your friends in the audience shout words of encouragement.

"Now, please give us some time to repair the damage done to the ring," the announcer requests. "But stick around, because once that's done, the second match will get underway."

Your match against "Shen" is coming up next, and you decide to wait in the contest hall for the announcer to call for it to begin.

It's not going to be an easy victory; you know that much. After all, human body or not, your opponent is Kami. He's perhaps the strongest being on the planet, and was one of your teachers (though Popo oversaw the vast majority of your training). This is an opponent with centuries of experience, and one who knows your abilities quite well.

On the other hand, you've never seen Kami in battle, other than the time he swatted Goku away like a bug.

"Are you ready?" "Shen" asks, walking over to you as you wait for the match to begin. "I won't be holding back, you know."

"I wouldn't have it any other way," you reply.

Shen chuckles. "I know. I'm actually looking forward to this match. It's been a very long time since I've fought someone strong enough to give me a challenge. I expect you to give me a good fight, and I hope you'll impress me with the results of your training."

"Alright, ladies and gentlemen!" the announcer shouts from outside. "The repairs have been made, so lets' hear it for our next two competitors!"

The crowd goes wild, and you walk beside your opponent, approaching the ring.

"Fans who have been to previous tournaments will know our first fighter," the announcer comments. "He's a veteran of the last two tournaments, placing second in the twenty-first world tournament when he was only thirteen, and making it to the semifinals in the twenty-second world tournament! Let's hear it for Tofoo!"

The crowd goes nuts as you step into the ring, and you can't help but smile.

"Our second fighter is new to the martial arts world," the announcer continues. "But he's fought his way through the preliminaries, defeating several seasoned fighters. Give it up for Shen!"

Shen waves as he steps into the ring, standing across from you and smiling.

"I've kept you all waiting long enough," the announcer declares. "Let the match begin!"

You're going to switch things up a bit. Instead of falling onto your normal defensive tactics, you rush forward toward Shen, intent to test yourself against him in a head-on attack.

As you move toward him, Shen holds out his right hand, palm faced upward. He grabs his right wrist with his left hand, and points both is right index and middle finger at you, flexing them up toward the sky.

An unbelievably powerful gust of wind slams into you, halting your charge and not letting you get further no matter how hard you try to push against it.

The wind becomes so strong that it actually throws you off the ground, and sends you soaring head over heels high into the air away from the ring.

You manage to stop yourself, and look toward the ring to see Kami flying up toward you at full speed, preparing to attack.

As Kami comes rocketing up toward you, you race down to meet him, and the two of you quickly close the gap.

Kami makes the first punch, but you parry it and land a solid hit to his face, sending him plummeting down toward the ring.

Much like you, he stops himself and readies for you as you race down after him, and the two of you meet once again in a savage flurry of punches and kicks.

The power you feel coming from him is incredible, and you're sure he's just getting started. It's a good thing you decided to take off your weighted clothing, otherwise you'd be no match here.

As it is, you're able to keep pace with Kami, though for the next several minutes nobody is able to land a single hit. The two of you keep your eyes locked the entire time, never breaking eye-contact even when blocking or throwing punches and kicks.

A punch grazes your cheek, and you're pretty sure Kami just drew blood.

You throw your head down toward Kami, slamming it into his nose and causing him to fall a few feet.

Before he can fully recover, you drop down and give a powerful kick to his gut, managing to send him all the way back down to the ring this time.

He backflips and lands in a crouch, looking up at you as you go rushing down after him.

The way he stares at you as you approach causes you to halt, watching him cautiously.

He keeps his eyes locked on you as he rises, and leaves his arms at his sides. He stays on the ground, remaining completely still.

But, you notice some sort of glow in his eyes.

Guessing an attack's coming, you fly to the left, getting yourself moving as Kami shoots two thin beams of light from his eyes.

Rather than a quick shot, they're concentrated beams, and as Kami turns his head to aim at you, they rapidly grow closer and closer.

If you want to avoid being cut in half or burnt to a crisp, you need to come up with a strategy, and do it quickly.

You can't think of any ways to stop the attack, but if you can find a way to break Kami's focus, you will be safe.

The stronger the attack, the better the distraction, and the more damage that distraction will do to Kami.

But, the stronger attacks take longer to prepare. So, you'll have to make a choice.

The reasoning behind this is that at a further distance a slight change in angle covers more ground, as such getting closer means the beams will cover less ground.

As you struggle to avoid the blasts, you prepare to answer with an attack of your own, opening your mouth and preparing a Bear Shout.

But, Kami seems to figure out what you're doing, and thrusts his hands up toward you, firing a ball of energy up at you before you can finish your attack.

You can't get out of the way, and you can't finish your attack. Kami's blast strikes you full-force, and you yell in pain as you're knocked from the sky, slamming painfully into the ring.

"That was pretty careless, Tofoo," Kami tells you in Shen's voice. "You gave me way too much time to prepare."

You pick yourself back up, and decide what to do next.

Considering this had the lowest DC, this was more or less a trap roll and won't give us hardly anything right?

It's time to get a bit creative.

You haven't used this technique since the last World Martial Arts Tournament, when you used it against Goku. There's a chance Kami doesn't even know it exists.

Stretching your arms out to your sides, you move them at an incredible speed, creating the illusion that you have eight arms.

Kami's eyes go wide behind the glasses, and you rush in to attack.

That's all for tonight, guys, I hope you all had fun

Trips.

Also how bad did that light blast give us a disadvantage?

If we had landed that how much would it have hurt him?
>>
>>48733555
Thanks for running Som as always.
>>
>>48733572
You still have a decent chance

It would have done noticeable damage, but not decided anything

Thanks for playing, as always

So hows our fight going.
What are everyones reactions, has Goku spilled the beans about Kami yet.
>>
>>48733592
Goku's kept it a secret, and the others are mostly just wondering how this guy is keeping up with you.
