I'm bored, so, for the ceremonial breaking in of my copy, it's time for the gestalt intelligence of /tg/ to generate a Traveller 2e Character!
Rolling for gender.
1 for male, 2 for female.

>>
>>48593394
Right. Now, roll 2d6 in order for STR, DEX, END, INT, EDU, and SOC.
>>
Rolled 5, 2 = 7 (2d6)

>>48593477
>>
>>48593660

Alright, here's hoping for no death during character creation.

Alright, on to END.
One can only hope.
>>
Rolled 1, 6 = 7 (2d6)

We're rolling pretty well. Let's hope we don't fuck up with EDU and SOC.
Speaking of...
On to EDU.

Let's get us some o' them ol book lernins I reckon.

Denglebert it is. Now, does Denglebert take any pre-career education?

Of course he has
>>
>>48594674
What kind? Univerity, or Military Academy?
>>

Denglebert probably partied a lot, and went to University. And then Partied a lot.

University
>>

Maybe he's from a family of Space Flea herders living on an Asteroid?

All right. Roll 2d6, and add Denglebert's EDU modifier of -1.

Admin, Astrogation, Animals, Art, Advocate, Electronics, Engineer, Language, Medic, Navigation, Profession, Science.

Sadly, Denglebert's dreams of space wizardry are crushed by Mr. Alcublierre, an arrogant, boorish professor with some frankly suspect conclusions. Roll 2d6 + Medic 1 or Electronics 0 to attempt to disprove his theories.
>>

Let's stick it to the man, man!

Rolled 3, 6 + 1 = 10 (2d6 + 1)

I guess use Medic 1, since we're more likely to disprove him.

Mr. Alcublierre proposed methods for the treatment of acute spatio-paralysis in shipboard cattle are obviously foolish and I can prove it.
>>

>>48595048
The man has thoroughly had it stuck to

It completely devourers his free time, but eventually Denglebert presents his findings, completely overturning Mr. Alcublierre's bullshit "study." He becomes a much more experienced medic because of it, but Alcubilerre will not forget this insult.
Roll 2d6 to graduate.

Four, by prior rules. Three for Terms served (Uni doesn't count) and one more for rank attained.
>>
>>48597941
It's a possibility on the benefit rolls, so we'll see sure
>>
>>48597975
2 in each sound fair gentlemen?
>>
>>48597975
The old school approach was to take all the cash rolls you could and use whatever was left over on Material Bennies. Not sure that's what we want for the good Captain, here. Two and two?

Let's get some good stuff

He's like Bones, except instead of going on space adventures with William Shatner, he watched the entire crew of his ship die in front of him!

Rolled 6, 2 = 8 (2d6)

>>48598003
Rolling for first cash and first other. May as well spread the luck around
>>
>>48598005
I think losing even most of the troops he lands with in the BoBG will be enough to break him. The realization that he cannot save everyone will end his career, and maybe having the BoBG not be flyable after a nasty landing will be the last straw.
>>
>>48598042
Just a standard d6 for Mustering Out Benefits.
>>
>>48598060
So Cash 6, and Material Bennies 2
>>
>>48598060
I know, I was rolling for 2.
So cash 6 gives CR30000 and Other 2 gives INT +1
>>
>>48598096
Indeed. You can roll 2 more material benefits.

Rolled 3, 5 = 8 (2d6)

From the Cortex files on Captain Denglebert Jones

Battle of Orbona
During the infamous Battle Of Orbona, Jones' ship, the Blade O' Bluegrass, was hit by a railgun shell fired from an artillery emplacement. Only Jones and twenty of his men managed to drop in time. Although reduced to less than a quarter of their maximum strength, the men under Jones' command managed to capture an essential enemy stronghold. Afterwards, Jones was admitted to psychiatric care.
>>
>>48598267
Cont'd
In writing to Force Commander Decelles, his therapist says: "He accepts the deaths of his comrades unnaturally fast..... [Jones] is either completely healed or far beyond our help...."

A week later, Jones resigned. He booked passage on a small Far Trader for one of the outer systems, and was never seen again.
>>
I don't have a book on me but why don't we stat a whole crew? It will be fun.
>>
>>48598948
Why not, sadly I don't have the new edition and the team should use the same rules in my opinion.
>>
>>48598948
>>48599008
Do we reckon Denglebert would be Captain or Medical Officer?
Of course it all depends on the rest of the crew, but which way are we leaning at the minute?
>>
If this is still alive in ~6 hours I'll do some writefaggotry, if anyone's interested in that.
>>
>>48601219
I know that my group has had a history of strong-willed ship's Doctors with unusual pasts,

I'm more inclined to use Captain "Den" Jones in his current form rather than hanging even more NPC crew around him.
>>
>>48597306

Imperial Marines are transported by the Imperial Navy, but Denglebert could be with some local planetary government inside the Imperium, or with some non-Imperium power whose marines are different.
>>
>>48602648
He's been involved in black ops. He may have been "in command" of a smaller assault ship meant to deliver he and his Marines but with Navy bridge and engineering crew.
>>
>>48602728

That's a solid point, actually. I didn't think about the black ops angle.

How does the new edition compare to the old one? I know it has university and jail terms, which is neat. Anything else notably different?

There's a new mechanic called Boon and Bane which is basically just advantage from 5th ed, and the art and graphical design have been improved.

Scotch Whiskey's what I'd say.
One of his prized posessions (apart from his Banjo) is a box of genuine Campbeltown whisky, one of the few bottles left in known space.
He's saving it for a special occasion, and makes do with Extra-Solar Scotch in the meantime. It isn't quite the same as the real thing though

Alright guys, writefag here finally off of work.

What part of Denglebert's story do you want me to write about?

His studious years at university, where he fought against perfidious professors?

His early years as a medic in the marines, and his narrow survival during a boarding action at the Battle of Montgomery IX? The subsequent assault and occupation?

Being the sole survivor of an engagement with rebel ships, watching the ship break apart and crewmen vent into the abyss as he slowly floated away in an escape pod?

His black ops raid on a secret laboratory, and his struggle to cope with the loss of his men? His time as captain of the Blade of Bluegrass? Once again surviving the destruction of his squad to an errant grenade?

Something else?

Precious Argo. Captain Meyer was going to call it Precious Cargo as a nod to his adopted daughter, but his first mate pointed out that it might attract the interest of pirates, who are none too bright. Thus he dropped the C from the name.

Filk?

A mix of the terms "sci fi" and "folk." Creating filk music is a traditional nerd hobby going back many decades to early SF conventions.

I've been searching this last while and turned up blank. CSC is definitely out, but High Guard is still at pre-order. No-one seems to have the playtest docs though
