Hello everyone! A new version of the "Unchained" Fighter is here. I have added a few things to it, and would love to see opinions! These new things include several new Advanced Equipment Trainings and Advanced Armor Trainings.

In addition I have added two archetypes, adapting them to the "Unchained" Fighter. These are the Mutation Warrior and Lore Warden, becoming the Mutation Master and Lore Master. Much of these archetypes are lifted directly from what they were before, merely with a few new features and rewritings to make them work with the new class. Honestly I am a little unsure of them, so lets see together how they are!

You are welcome. If there are any other rough builds for Path of War you would like assistance with, I would be happy to try my hand at them in the future.

I do hope that the Path of War 1 errata playtest is released in due time, such that people will have to tiptoe less around extreme-damage disciplines such as Broken Blade and Scarlet Throne. It is rather awkward to try to present "Path of War 1 disciplines banned" builds (and yet they come out as extremely high-damage, multitarget, alpha striking murderers anyway).

Hey pathfinder general, I'm currently in a situation with my GM(who also happens to be a long time friend)
running his campaign in way that is proving to be either be railroaded, or boring.
When I say boring, I don't mean just uninteresting in terms of story(although it is slightly lacking in that),
What I mean is that he will make our level 6 characters fight level 11-12 vampires just so his NPCs who he has placed with the party
(who are also significantly more powerful than us)
can beat them whilst we watch or maybe cause minimal damage or effect in both combat, and the campaign.
he is also very sensitive about us telling him this( he threatens to kill out characters or throws impossible rolls at us with dcs above 35 for traps we see around 3 times a room, and makes the perceptions dcs around the same.

Any tips on how to deal with this, or failing that, how can i fight fire with fire here?
Thanks

Pic related, my GM pretty much

Human wildblooded sylvan razmiran priest sorcerer with arcane blood eldritch heritage feats (questionable legality, as wildblooded multiarchetype stacking is devated in my group. I believe the official stance as written is that it changes the entire bloodline, but since it only effects certain bloodline powers it's a bit grey). Uses a talent to make her level 1 powers 1 level higher, boon companion, and a robe of arcane heritage to boost her familiar and animal companion to insane levels (I still have not found a definitive order of operations for applying feats with stacking benefits, most assume they stack to the greatest benefit of the player).

Since she is an exiled bastard princess of the king and a fey touched peasant, when the king died and named her heir she was hunted by her older siblings and nearly killed. They did kill her loyal guard, an elf magus who she brought back from the dead through a focus on necromancy spells as her cohort. While her older brother quickly ran the country into ruin with his excessive lifestyle and rampant loans from other nations, she disguised herself as an short dwarven animal focus cleric with a hat of disguise and wanders the land to gain support of the populace so she can take back her throne.

It's the dumbest character I have ever made and I want to play her more than anything

Before I get somewhat in-depth into suggesting revisions to this, is there anything in particular you are attempting to accomplish with this character?

Is there any reason in particular you are aiming for Riven Hourglass and Silver Crane in particular?
What exactly is a "switchscythe"? Are you allowed to use Weapon Master's Handbook custom weapons? If not, has your GM approved of the usage of scythes as "polearms"?
Does your character need to be a dual-talent human as opposed to, say, a tiefling with Pass for Human?
Is there any reason you are not taking any Intelligence social skill traits such as Clever Wordplay, Cunning Liar, or Student of Philosophy, or the Orator feat outright? (Orator is especially effective by 10th-level.)
Is there any reason why you are not spreading out your disciplines so as to acquire maneuvers that are useful outside of combat, such as Cursed Razor 4's Fetch's Wrath and Veiled Moon 3's Ghostwalk?
>>
>>48574587
Good points. It's so ingrained to our group that I forget it some times.

We gain treasure beyond wealth by level, but nothing can be made that requires a CL higher than 11. As for CR, we routinely fight CR 19+ encounters, usually an initiator supported by a few casters and a bunch of mooks with Martial Training.

Switchscythe is from Gnomes of Golarion. It's a collapsible scythe that springs out as a swift action (Free with Quickdraw, by our houserules, Quickdraw being on "the list").

Feats are worthless because we get one roughly every session, thus Dual Talent Human.

Probably gonna grab Orator in a feat or two.

Discipline choices and such are pretty much purely thematic, and will probably be expanded with Advanced Training later on.

And yes, we voted to have Scythes be considered polearms, because it's retarded that Paizo didn't make them polearms.

Her big thing right now is going to be mowing down useless enemies with the Sands of Time Tornado, using Dark Allure to debuff enemies.

>>48574814
Anon, the Int score is roughly equivalent to IQ, with an IQ of 100 and a score of 10 being the average. A "bimbo" would be a dumb person, so let's say an IQ of 70 (score of 7) for a low number, although that's borderline retardation. An IQ of 10 is lower than the average dog. That's not sexy, that's pathetic unless your party members get hot and bothered by someone who doesn't have the mental capacity to distinguish between their dinner and their own feces.
>>
>>48574922

Are you sure? Because the extensive research I've done on the topic tends to show the average bimbo as a barely-functional human being that only exists to get their holes stuffed and love every second of it.
>>
>>48574227

Cool; any advice for it, long term?
>>
>>48574544
>>48574700

Unfortunately, I am much better at suggesting ways for builds to be improved than I am at evaluating how strong and flexible any given build as currently presented is. If I had to give a gut assessment, I would say that the character is "passably optimized to a humble degree by Path of War: Expanded standards, and could certainly pull their weight in a battle" but that is a very vague evaluation.

Also, Minute Hand and Hour Hand are quite strong but not *egregious* like Mithral Current 5's Rapid Current is. You do not seem to have room for Mithral Current anyway, so it is a moot point.

I would not feel guilty at all for taking Minute Hand or Hour Hand.

What is this "Broken Shattered Mirror stance"?

>>48574736

The Weapon Master's Handbook would allow for the construction of a polearm scythe.

>>48574794

That depends on the precise parameters of the spherecasting (low, mid, or high caster; number of talents) and the character's level. The astral deva is perhaps a low tier 3 class as currently written, and it never quite receives any of the truly game-changing at-will spell-like abilities that the erinyes or the succubus eventually attain.

>>48574841

I see now. In that case, is there a reason you have a preference for a Dual Talent human over a tiefling with Pass for Human?

I would suggest taking Orator now (and rearranging your ability scores accordingly), as it will be a vast improvement to your character's noncombat utility.

Why exactly are you aiming for Dark Allure? That feat is intended for "tank"-oriented harbingers, and you do not seem especially invested in defense beyond stances.

I do think that if you wish for your character to be a smidge more useful, it would be worthwhile to try to acquire the more useful noncombat utility maneuvers such as Cursed Razor 4's Fetch's Wrath and Veiled Moon 3's Ghostwalk.

>>
>>48574736
Here's the thing. In actual war? A scythe is a polearm. In pathfinder? A scythe is not a polearm. Because these are two different scythe's.

Pathfinder's scythes, despite what the handbook says, are reaping scythes, the kind the Grim Reaper has, the kind you harvest wheat with, because it's cool and edgy and people like it.

Actual military scythes have the blade rotated 90 degrees, so they're more like a cut-rate bardiche. Because trying to use a reaping scythe in actual combat would get you fucking killed.
>>
>>48575008
They can totally cast if they're Clerics though, so who knows how that works.
>>
>>48575009
>there's like a dozen other date rape spells you can do with the exact same effect that DON'T involve the target becoming incapable of passing the Harkness test.

That's the point, anon.

Feeble-minded is hot because it *causes* the target to become incapable of passing the Harkness Test. It's not just immobilizing the victim, it's making the victim incapable of protecting itself in the first place.

The idea is turning the victim into a barely-coherent fuck-slut interested only in satisfying itself, which is of course a fantasy compared to reality, but YMMV depending on the campaign tone.
>>
>>48574974
Dual Talent Human has no ability score penalty. Tiefling does, and also lacks the extra skillpoint per level.

I'll consider it, if I can fit it in. I might give up Weapon Group Adaptation for it, but that would see a small reduction in damage and save DCs of her Maneuvers (not that she has many).

With Dark Allure, part of her goal is to go in and keep hitting people with Claim every round, then play keep away with her 90 foot move speed, forcing them to either eat the penalty, or waste their action trying to chase after her.

I'll take a look at Fetch's Wrath and Ghostwalk. I suppose ghostwalk could be fluffed GOES FAST style (which is her thematics; goes fast, with a touch of holy magic). I'm actually not sure what Fetch's Wrath does, though.
>>
>>48575060

Oh, forgot to add.

Notice how the people were getting turned on by an *ally* casting the spell, not some random enemy. See the little addition to Feeble-minded in >>48575008 that shows a feeble-minded character can still distinguish friend from foe.

That's what adds to the kink; you're not just a blithering retard, you're a happy and very loyal blithering retard that follows the party around and just "knows" they're trustworthy and have the victim's best interests in mind.

Scenarios aren't hard to imagine how this could turn very lewd, very fast. It's basically the ultimate expression of submission, which is based around giving up your ability to act to a dominant, trusting they have your best interests in mind.
>>

Questions regarding the Relic Channeler archetype for Medium:

It says that the Relic Channeler starts with a relic for all six spirits, but that choosing a spirit power and taboo lock those choices in. It also mentions that destroyed relics can be replaced via 500 gold per level. Does this mean that I absolutely should not channel spirits with good, higher-level spirit powers until I can pick them? And does replacing the relic mean I can potentially re-choose powers and taboos (albeit at exorbitant cost)? Could I potentially find another relic to get a "new" spirit with a different power and taboo?

I ask because the medium sounds vaguely interesting to me, but my GM is the sort who'd screw me over on channeling locations.

The Medium had "errata" of sorts, where as long as you can come up with an explanation for a certain spirit being somewhere you can channel it. Like saying that this one clearing you found is a place where X thief prepared himself for heists, or where X cleric found religion, or where X scholar went to meditate on his research.

Basically they backpedaled hard because they realized location-locked channeling is fucking dumb.

Dual Talent forces a human to forsake this.

Depending on the specific spheres and how many talents the astral deva received, that would make a single-classed astral deva anywhere from a mid-tier 3 character to a very high tier 3 character.

So I want all the defense. I'll be playing in a gestalt game at level 5 and am considering a halfling chosen one paladin + destined primalist urban blood rager making use of Fate's Favored. I will be focusing on two weapon fighting.

So that will give me familiar bonus to saves, divine grace, destined's luck bonus, halfling luck, bloodrage's bonuses, and superstitious. I will use bloodrage for dex/con to up them even more. In the end my saves will be VERY high. My AC is similarly very high. My offense however lacks as a consequence.

Get an air horn. When they break character and try to pull shit off track, use it every time they try to speak until they shut up.

Or, you could do the actual mature thing and tell them that their constant interruptions are killing the scene, and that it's very rude to the other player(s) and they'll have plenty of opportunities for their own RP moments, so please just bear with it.

If they persist in ruining other people's scenes, drop a meteor on their character and tell the rest of the party the sight is so majestic and awe-inspiring that they all gain a level.

A very high acrobatics score, coupled with a tendency of the GM using cut from the air on the only creatures who would be a threat with their AOOs to cockblock the Archerspam.

Think carefully about a CR 10 creature's average CMD of 32.2 before you decide to rely on Acrobatics to disengage from enemies.

Also, I had been erroneously listing down Fetch's Wrath as belonging to Cursed Razor, when it is actually a Shattered Mirror strike.

I tried that telling them that but they basically threw a tantrum until everyone gave up and started doing something else.

Argent Knight's Banner does not require a charge.

No strikes multiply their extra damage on a critical hit:

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/path-of-war/systems-and-use
>you do not multiply extra damage from a strike when calculating the critical hit damage

https://archive.4plebs.org/tg/thread/46115668/#46127190
>Gareth
>Bonus damage from maneuvers isn't multiplied either. That may change during the errata depending on what ends up happening to the final damage totals, but ATM that's the breaks - even flat damage.

What I would personally recommend for maneuvers readied is:
5th-level: Argent Knight's Banner, Sands of Time Tornado
4th-level: Fetch's Wrath, Tip the Hourglass
3rd-level: Ghostwalk, Time Skitter

You will lack a counter, unfortunately, but it is not as though you will have much room for boosts and counters given your harbinger class features. You will have to rely on your high speed, Fetch's Wrath, and Ghostwalk to survive.

Acrobatics +24 is not good enough to be truly reliable (the risk-reward ratio is slanted poorly for you, considering the price of failure), and given that you are due two feats for Orator, Skill Focus in Acrobatics is still a ways away.

I would drop the attempt at kite-tanking. Besides, it will take a rather long time to build up an appreciable penalty with Dark Allure, and that and Grasp of Darkness are feats you might drop to make room for Orator.

>the definition of polearm dancer
>using a close-up weapon up close is the same as choking up on a spear
You may need to check your dictionary, son, because your definitions are retarded.

Perpendicular blades are HEAVY, and they are AWKWARD. You don't hold a scythe at centre and 3/4 up because you feel like it, you hold a scythe at centre and 3/4 up because otherwise, the blade is impossible to maneuver.

You see that one slash where she shifts her grip to the end momentarily and just barely manages to lay a cut on a guy like three feet from her before she has to take a proper grip again? That's about the best lunge you're gonna get out of a scythe, and in your fucking DREAMS is that a reach attack.

>That looks like the definition of the Polearm Dancer/Spear Dancing Style feats to me, mate.

Please explain further. Spear Dancing is about bludgeoning with the back end of a reach weapon. That's not a reach weapon by any definition of the term, and she doesn't bludgeon anybody with the haft.

Ok, now for defending one's stronghold, The Munchkin Way.

First you need to thwart teleportation. This is the easiest endeavor. You simply need a permanent teleportation trap over the area you want to protect.

The teleportation trap should lead into a cube filled with molten lava, which deals 20d6 damage per round. The cube should be surrounded by a thick Hardened Adamantine Shell, coated in lead. Hardness 25 is the minimum you should shoot for, the higher the better. The shell should be 2 inches thick for 80hp. This will mean they will have to deal a fair amount of damage while inside. Make it large enough to accommodate any necessary creature. Outside the lava cube you should have somewhere around 500 to 1000ft of stone (use teleport traps sunk into the ground to connect it to the area). If the creature is fire immune then you may be in trouble. We'll cover that after walls.

Walls need to be layered so they can not be seen through, scry'd through, moved through, or easily destroyed. We do this with a layering system as follows:
>Hardened Adamantine
>Water
>Hardened Steel
>Water
>Sheet of Lead
>Water
>Hardened Stone
>Water
>Hardened Wood
>Water
>Living Matter (use water plants)

The living matter is the inner most layer, do it now in reverse to the other side. These prevents see through stone, life sense, scry, scent, and most forms of destruction. The most dangerous form, a disintegrate ray, if foiled by the water, which constantly refiles with a decanter of endless water. The rays hit water, which is gushing out, and destroys it rather than the wall behind. Keep the decanters on fill blast. Each layer should have its own, keeping the system pressurized. Also, see through wall abilities (like the tiefling one), can't see through creatures. The center living matter is for that edge case.

You may have as much as 1 cu ft openings along the wall, as those can not be scry'd through and don't constitute line of effect. Use these as arrow slits. However since it is dangerous to have them there when not in use you must be able to add them to the wall. The easiest way is to have them be an adamantine box on the outside that you teleport to (using a password for your teleport trap).

The entire area should be sealed so the only way in or out would be to get teleported by the one owning the stronghold.

Also, you'll want to be mindblanked so people can't read your mind to get your password.

For fire immune creatures who teleport in and end up in the lava hole simply do the following; fill a small chamber outside the adamantine box with a powerful deadly inhaled poison. If they're also immune to poison remember nothing is immune to drugs.

Fill it with heroin.

Everyman Archetype series
Mystic in Liber Influxus
Age of Electrotech
Pact magicUnbound
Psychological combat
Ultimate Charisma

He's generally pretty original. I think that recent release with Owen was actually a diss toward DSP.
>>
Anyone have experience with gun builds that aren't completely horrible? A friend has his heart set on them, and unlike Paizo, I'd prefer not to crush his dreams.
>>
>>48578072
DSP allowed? Emerging guns, common guns, guns everywhere?
>>
>>48578065
That's because Owens is a pissbaby who didn't like that he couldn't port Bastards & Bloodlines himself and instead sold the rights to it for making Bloodforge (which is why most of the races are really weird combinations, they're not DSP's original creations like the Akashic Camels are).
>>
>>48578065
He must have gotten worse, since everyman options: kineticists was a straight up train wreck, as was Ultimate Occult.
>>
>>48578095

DSP potentially allowed, but not a sure thing, and commonplace guns.
>>
>>48578072
Dual revolvers on a slayer are not bad as long as guns everywhere is in effect.
>>
>>48577999
It's not about having reach, it's about being able to strike with the striking end of a weapon. Have you ever LOOKED at a scythe? The edge is on the INSIDE. You cannot, cannot, CANNOT use it for basically ANYTHING a polearm is used for!
>>
>>48578156
You aren't going to convince this person not to go with rule of cool. Maybe cool off a bit.
>>
>>48577295
I added two archetypes Lore Master and Mutation Master.

I also added the Advanced Equipment Trainings:
>Mercenary's Intuition
>Friends In Low Places
>Mend the Broken
>Battlefield Medic
>>
>>48578140
I know Ultimate Occult was a joint with Owen, who has a tendency to err on the side of caution and also may have wanted the book to fuck with DSP.

Based on the reviews and discussion for the Kineticist book it likely seems that he just missed the point of the Kineticist. Pretty easy considering how complex the class is. I'd judge the series on the next release whenever that is.
>>
>>48578144

The mystic (gunsmoke mystic) is probably the single most effective firearm-user in Dreamscarred Press Pathfinder, followed by the warlord (desperado) and then, for melee-centric firearms users, the stalker (privateer) and warlord (privateer).

In a Paizo-only environment, you should be looking at a barbarian (savage technologist) or an inquisitor of the Black Powder inquisition.
>>
>>48577999
A harvest scythe is nothing like those. At its core, fighting using a polearm is about keeping your enemy as far away as possible, to press the advantage of your longer weapon (whether it's got reach or not, nobody's going to claim a halberd is shorter than a longsword.)

With its hooked blade, sharp on the inside, a harvest scythe requires your enemy to be close, close enough to hook the blade around so you can slice and leave room to disengage by extending it out, if you don't cut through cleanly.

If anything, a fighting with a harvest scythe is more like using a curved sword than a spear. It's not really like either of them, though.
>>
>>48578231
As someone who both read the book and knows the kineticist...I doubt I'd allow EO:K at my table. It's just pretty busted with a very minimal understanding of the mechanics that make it work.

As an aside, archetype design for the vigilante is a MILLION times easier than archetype design for the kineticist, which requires all the moving parts to work.
>>
>>48578212
I'm not arguing against the rule of cool. Scythes are cool. I like scythes. They're claiming there's realistic reasons for a scythe to be considered a polearm, citing a different kind of scythe and a gif of someone using a scythe in a non-polearm manner, and their claims are fucking bullshit on par with JJ's goddamn mouse cord.
>>
>>48578274
Although I do know there's going to be another edit run of it, Alex and I talked about it together, and once it comes out, I probably would, as the changes he proposed were a large step up.
>>
>>48578156
I never mentioned scythes, I was just replying to you saying that it was not a polearm due to reach.
And I do agree that scythes would be stupid weapons, they're farming tools. However, in my eyes, wouldn't they have the most transferrable skills with other polearms rather than heavy blades?
>>
What was the site an anon here made that was basically a database of tier 3 stuff?
>>
>>48578314
Oh also, I'm not RWBY anon. I started posting with >>48577999
>>
>>48578233

Hm. Duly noted-thank you very much.
>>
>>48578314
Ah, sorry.

No, they really wouldn't. Honestly, most polearm techniques would get you fucking killed if you tried them with a scythe. It would surpass "not useful", and plunge straight into "actively detrimental" in a way few other skills would. I'd probably say the most transferable skills would come from a scimitar or khopesh, though I've never handled the latter so I can't really speak to it.
>>
>>48578402
I'm not anyone from this discussion before now, but depending on how sturdy it was, a sort of axe-ey, picklike motion might work? Catching them with the point?
>>
>>48578402
That does seem to make sense, I shall bow to your wisdom on this one.
>>
>>48578451
I could see it, though the blade shape is pretty piss-poor for it. You'd still have to try to catch them on the inward side of the point, or sharpen the outside edge too, and you're going to have a hell of a time extricating it without some pretty serious modifications to the blade. Modifications which basically end up with a vaguely scythe-shaped axe. Whether you want to call that still a scythe is up to you, at that point.
>>
>>48578563
Honestly seems like a refluffed halberd or glaive maybe would be your best bet for rule of cool
>>
>>48578597
Yeah, mechanics-wise, I'd definitely say a halberd is closest to what anon's after.

Or hell, just use a scythe with polearm dancing anyway. My only objection was to the claim that a scythe is rationally a polearm, when it's absolutely not; I don't give a shit if you treat it like one anyway. It's not like Pathfinder's a bastion of rational mechanics in the first place.

Dreamscarred Press Pathfinder also offers the cryptic (grammaton).

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/psionics-unleashed/classes/cryptic/archetypes/dreamscarred-press/grammaton

However, whether or not a grammaton can apply their Disrupt Pattern to all of their firearm attacks (like a Brutal Disruptor) is unclear, so the archetype's effectiveness is at the mercy of the GM.

There is also Dreamscarred Press's marksman (kaigun) archetype:
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/psionics-unleashed/classes/marksman/archetypes/dreamscarred-press/kaigun
I believe this should be compatible with the marksman (mind's eye disciple) from Path of War: Expanded. You should, however, ask your GM to allow Wind Reader to stack with Favored Weapon (they are both competence bonuses), because they truly should. It is not as though this is a spectacularly strong class; both archetypes stacked together would still be outclassed by a mystic (gunsmoke mystic).
>>
>>48578277
As RWBY Anon, Ruby's fighting style was the picture I had in my head of what Polearm Dancer/Spear Dancing style looked like. I'm not claiming it's realistic (I'm not sure who did), though I will admit that I had been thinking (possibly erroneously) that polearm would just mean "Weapon with a haft that isn't an axe" due to its inclusion of stuff like the Monk's spade and... well, not the Nodachi, that's just weird.

Misfires and a lack of native ability-modifier-to-damage-rolls are perhaps the greatest downfalls of firearms, but you may have already known as much.
>>
>>48578799
Here's the thing, though. Mechanically, she's not doing what either of those feats represent, not in the slightest.

Polearm Dancer adds Dex to polearms. She's not finessing that thing, she's not aiming for weak points, she's swinging it around with raw muscle. Look at those impacts.

Spear Dancing Style uses both ends of the weapon. She's not. Go frame by frame, if you have to; every single one of those hits is with the blade.

In terms of Pathfinder mechanics, that's just a fullattack with a scythe. Very showy, but still a fullattack.
>>

Yyyep. Just looking for workable options, and you've helped considerably with that, thank you.

>>
>>48579044
A decent example of a realistic dex fighter vs strength fighter match would imo be the fight between Gregor Clegane and Oberyn Martell from Game of Thrones season 4, episode 8. I'm certain there's a youtube video of it somewhere.

Are all character creation threads for Roll20's "living world" campaigns such depraved hives with no quality standards whatsoever?

These applications hardly even pay attention to the setting or the character creation rules.

This one character is Yuuka Kazami from Touhou, a "youkai" actually named "Yuuka Kazami." She flagrantly ignores the setting and the character creation rules yet still manages to be a poorly optimized fighter. She was accepted nevertheless.

In my campaigns I replaced the base summoner spell list with the spell list from Unchained. The Eidolon changes are optional since sometimes the player may want one of the unique options.
>>
>>48579797
I mean, it literally is not core. Core means the Core Rulebook. This is simply a matter of semantics.
>>
>>48579855
No, it doesn't. In Pathfinder, Core refers to the Core line of products. The non-setting specific books. Ultimate books, Core, Advanced, those things. Not just the CRB.
>>
>>48579882
Unless you're talking about a core-only game, which means just the CRB.

I joined it for a session, and got treated to a 'senior GM' thinking that throwing together a character that was level 5 and mythic, assorted other levels, and a level 1 plain orc barbarian was a good idea.

The encounter? Fifteen 'magic missile penguins', with fly speeds of over 60ft(perfect), automatic-hit melee attacks, and when they died, they exploded in an AoE of fire. Oh, and that was just the first wave. Then there were more, and a hidden wizard.

I left midway through the combat after it turned out that the two high level casters had 'happened' to prepare Shield, and were 100% immune to the fight, while all the newer people got assraped.

If you want a good laugh, go look through their characters: http://oustomiaworld.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Player_Characters

I run a perfectly good sandbox game though.
Its set during a war between two rival kingdoms and the party are essentially 3rd party war profiteers, either as mercs, traders or other shady guys.

Every in-game week, I give a blow by blow event of rumors, hearsay and information the party parses through and act according to the information they receive. They could offer themselves as assassins, saboteurs, etc. or work independently, in order to prolong the war for their own pockets.

Its a pretty great game where I don't need to write a plot. Just adjust the events to suit the players' actions.
>>
>>48580050
>All these stories make me want to join those games with an asshole character who couldn't give less of a fuck about the other pc's troubles.

The stories sound fun, but when you get into the session you realize it's every bit as bland as it seems to be.

I've joined no less than 5 Living Campaigns, and the longest I've lasted in one before leaving was one night. The people you meet there are not the types of people you'd want to just sit down and chat with, and their characters have about as much personality as a cardboard box, and are roleplayed just as well as one.

HOWEVER

One of the greatest troll classes to make for a Living Campaign is the Artisan, though it *only* works if the campaign allows player-crafting and making money off selling equipment. You want to see Living campaign players squirm? Make the weakest, daintiest master armorsmith imaginable and get in the face of the "tough badass" and demand they pay you what the item was worth. The roleplay in those scenes is incredible, you're practically baiting them to try and beat you up.

Bonus: Make the Artist an attractive MILF for maximum cringe.

My DM tried to run his first 5E campaign as something like a "Living Campaign," where he had about a dozen players and intended to set it up with a very loose plot so that people could just grab together a party when they were all free and get a session in. >Selling Crafted Items - Player Characters may freely sell mundane items for up to 60% of their market price(or 70% if you have the Merchant trait) that they craft. However, you are limited to 2000 gp a week in this way. in addition to the former, players may sell crafting items(Magic, Technological, magic-based alchemy, etc) of their choice that they have spent the time on once per month, up to a combined maximum of 8,000 GP a month.(IE: You crafted an item that has a market value of 1000 GP; it sells for 600. Then tomorrow you do the same, etc.)

>Crafting per Week - Mundane crafters now craft at a rate of 100xlevel(IE: A level 3 can do 300 a day!) gold pieces a day. Otherwise it would take several weeks to make things such as swords. Do note, this does not apply to technological or magical items. Tech and Magic items are not mundane.

>>
>>48581145
Yeah, I know, that was part of my point. Honestly, trying to talk about realism has no place in a discussion about most tabletop games, since most tabletop games aren't trying to be realistic. If you want rules that attempt to mimic reality, play GURPS. Pathfinder is not that kind of game.

>Should I not bother and go full mercenary, start them out on one side as recruits and see how it goes, or what?
I'm a fan of starting them out as part of a smaller faction that isn't directly involved, but has a resource or position that would help one of the actual sides in the conflict gain a major advantage. That gives both the usual "Side A" or "Side B" choice, but also the "Tell them both to fuck off and leave us alone." choice.

As for making them both sympathetic, that's not that hard, but I'd need more details on the actual reasons behind the conflict to give any specific advice.

The DM actually had to change the toughness of the campaign once I came into my own with buff spells like prayer, litanies, and all the judgements/banes..

A combination of it being easy shitposting, one of the more prolific anons (Touhoufag) being recognized by his posting of ainme styled game characters, 4chan being a Korean clay working site, and most of the people who put up with Pathfinder's foibles are those who enjoy very high power, high fantasy of which anime and manga are the most prolific contemporary media containing such.

A lot of the standard fantasy folks went to OSR or 5th, since those games/movements (5e had a lot of OSR heads provide feedback) are much more amenable to standard fantasy.

That's just petty. Most nations are opportunistic fuckheads whenever a war happens. Everyone who is neutral will attempt to stick their fingers where the money is, either by selling war-relief, making business deals amounting to extortion, trade tariff revisions and so on.
>>
>>48581406
Just as an example, there might be a fairly imposing bit of mountains between Side A and Side B, with a small valley nation being the easiest passage through them. Whichever side controls that valley has a major advantage in sending their troops into the other nation. The people in the valley need to decide whether to ally with one side and hope they can protect them against the other side, but they also need to weight which side will be the easiest to live with when they move their troops in. For example, maybe Side A is stronger and more likely to be able to protect the valley from Side B, but they also want a lot more in return for protecting the valley, or their troops are known for being unruly and will likely cause a lot of incidents with the people of the valley while they're stationed there. Side B will have less impact while they're stationed in the valley, but they lack the raw power and might not be able to keep Side A from stomping through.

Alternately, they can decide to resist both sides, using the protected location of their nation to help mitigate the fact that they're fighting two armies that are vastly more powerful. That's going to be a much tougher fight, but at the same time, if they pull it off they won't have to deal with being occupied by either nation. They might even have to find a way to play both major nations against each other just to survive... for example, one mission for the PC's might be to go and find a new passage through the mountains and "accidentally" let that information fall into one nation's hands, thus providing a new route for that nation to move their troops (removing the need to occupy the valley), while at the same time putting pressure on the other nation that forces them to divert some of the troops fighting the valley to deal with the attacks coming from the new passage.

Ultimate Intrigue had sections for early, middle and late play, as far as how DMs could deal with certain spells the PCs were using, and commonly misunderstood things about them. In some cases with higher level spells they more or less admitted you needed to find ways around it rather than countering it directly, such as Mindblank and the like.
>>
>>48576446
If you do that, DM-to-be, please be flexible with your answers. If the party comes up with something that could work for the setting/theme of the puzzle but is just slightly off, don't let them sit there for three hours of real-life time just so you can say "It was 'trees', not 'a tree'" or something similar and have them want to fling a core book at you.
>>
>>48574539
Every one needs to get laid. Why is that even an insult?
>>
>>48581667
Because those of us who do it regularly don't spend all our time thinking about how to make dogs and hobbits fuck.
>>
>>48581718
To be fair, the people here are more interested in fucking the underage offspring of dogs and hobbits.

Is anyone knowledgeable on the Vigilante? I want to create a kitsune vigilante. If I focus on dex I could just do Slayer. If I focus on my cha, I could go magical child. Is magical child the only archetype that focuses on the cha stat?

On a side note, I want my feats to focus on the kitsune feats like transforming, and as many magical tails as I can. Are the talents good enough "feat" replacers? cause some of those talents are like multiple feats in one.
>>
>>48581743
If you're using stuff from the vigilante playtest that was up earlier, there's a feat to turn any caster into a spont charisma caster. That and magical child is hot garbage.
>>
>>48581735
We made our beds, its only fitting we should gladly get fucked in them.
>>
>>48581775
You mean the legendary stuff? the feat that turn the warlock vigilante to a cha based? I saw the guide someone was making for the Warlock. Sounds pretty good. IDK if I can convince my GM to allow 3pp. When does the book come out?

Also is it possible to just run the kitsune racial transformation feats, and the magical tails only, with the vigilante talents covering most of the "feats"? Again, it looks like talents are pretty powerful.
>>
>>48581743
>>48581814
As the guy who made the guide, I saved a copy of the playtest. If Jolly doesn't mind, I could link it.

>Also is it possible to just run the kitsune racial transformation feats, and the magical tails only, with the vigilante talents covering most of the "feats"? Again, it looks like talents are pretty powerful.
If you're one of the two base specializations, then yes. If you are a cha-lock, you're hamstrung as fuck because you need to sink in your first three feats for shit.
>>
>>48581814
Yeah, since it's my content, let me find the feat.
And I'm not sure when it'll come out (gencon's coming up, and the publisher is busy with that, as well as Charismatic Caster
Prerequisite: 1st level cabalist, warlock, or zealot.
Benefit: You now cast as a spontaneous caster (if you didn’t already), using the bard’s spells known to determine how many spells you know, as well as no longer needing a spellbook to prepare your spells. You also use your Charisma modifier instead of your Intelligence or Wisdom modifier to determine your spells per day, bonus spells, spell DCS, and other related spell effects.
Special: This feat must be selected at 1st level, or before your first level of cabalist, warlock, or zealot. A cabalist, warlock, or zealot can choose to gain this feat in place of their 1st level social talent. A zealot who takes this feat also uses their Charisma in place of their Wisdom for all abilities related to their inquisition.other issues), so all I can say is probably before September. If it helps, you can tell your GM that it was written by the most prolific guide writer in pathfinder.

And with casting specialization, it'll be tight, since you're dropping almost all of your talents.

Ugh, the feat got messed up.

It should be out before September is the best I can say. And with tails, it'll be really rough since you're so talent starved.

Bullshit. Core means core, nothing else.

So I'm considering two more possible archetypes. One is "Blood Tainted" which gains a Bloodrager Bloodline and a few other features.

The other is an updated version of the Drill Sergeant called "Warmaster"

Visitation (Ex) Mr. Tall appears as a hazy afterthought to its victims.
At its first visitation, creatures must make a DC 30 Will save or dismiss Mr. Tall as an optical illusion. Creatures who successfully save become startled as the figure of Mr. Tall looms over them, and become shaken.
At its second visitation, Mr. Tall effects visual and physical corruption within the surrounding inanimate objects about the victim, causing loud bursts of static rapidly oscillating orbs of light to chase victims, and producing weirdly sonorous and terrifying voices. Creatures must make a DC 30 Will save or become shaken.
At its third visitation, Mr. Tall physically enters the premises of the victim's home. Victims plagued by this visitation report being stared at by a large owl or deer with overly large, completely black eyes. Creatures must make a DC 30 Will save. Creatures who fail this save meaningfully and barely audibly gasp that it was no owl or deer, and become panicked.
At its fourth visitation, Mr. Tall effects visual and physical corruption within the victim himself. Creatures must make a DC 30 Will save and DC 31 Fort save or their faces distort into grotesque forms and their bodies become rigid and levitate into the air. Creatures who fail both saves become frightened to death (duplicating a phantasmal killer or slay living spell).
To its victims, it is said Mr. Tall occupies the unfathomable recesses of the mind, the uncertain point where memories churn and decay.

I'd rather not have the old playtest doc linked right now for a few reasons, one of which being that it's out of date with the new edits. Second being is that I don't know if I'll be doing a second playtest and I'd rather have people giving feedback on a more complete project. Share it privately if you want, but I'd prefer if it wasn't publicly shared.

Thanks for the heads up. Guess I have time to keep playing my current Paladin duo (Paladin with paladin squire) until they meet their end eventually. The vigilante really works well with my GMs current game with all the intrigue and stuff.

On another note, I guess it is best to run Magical tails with Vigilante specializations/archetypes that don't give up half their talents.

On the last note, has anyone ever ran Magical Tails? IDC about min max stuff but is it fun to use and have?

That's what I figured. I tried to thoroughly explain the noteworthy stuff anyway, at least for the warlock, so it's not really necessary to link the whole playtest. Waiting on the book to come out is gonna be a pain considering how more and more people are asking about vigilante stuff, though. I will say, though...

>>48581941
If you had access to the playtest stuff, Mercurial Duelist+Inquisitive Detective would be a great choice, since both can let you take advantage of the things a kitsune has (+dex/cha, strength penalty is moot with the special finesse talent the mercurial duelist gets) and leaves your feats wide open for the most part.

Trying to think is difficult at 3 AM, while also in the middle of a Mutant Epoch session I got shangai'd into.
>>
>>48582015
It's all good, we were hit with some delays, the split also means I have more jazz to write and have to decide how the doc is split, and all sorts of other stuff. Mercurial Duelist would be a nice fit for a character like that though.

FedoraFerret's vigilante guide should be covering both books when they come out though, so anyone looking for info should be able to get it through their guide once it's out.

You mean this guide? https://docs.google.com/document/d/18z70ARGsGF92VbV0Ithx_4PpwTQXDqUw0Ph1UvqLfVU/edit?pref=2&pli=1#

I've also been looking at this guide. It is pretty good.
Two books? There are two vigilante books? Oh snap!

>>48582015
Also drifter, you ever think of adding your guide to here? http://zenithgames.blogspot.com/2012/11/the-comprehensive-pathfinder-guides.html
I find it is a pretty good repository of pretty well written guides and I think your guide is pretty good itself.
>>
>>48578274
Would you allow DSP's archetypes at your table? For Vigilantes or Kineticists. My group's looking into them after someone suggested I play the JoJo one instead of a summoner, because it has both things I want (blasting and a pet).
>>
>>48582105
Yeah, that's the one. FF's pretty chill, they just put out their first 3p book too, Samurai of Porphyra.

And yeah, it ended up running too long, so we're going to split it into heroes and villains, so now I get to decide which parent gets which kids (spoiler: everything in the current playtest is villain)

And I agree, once you think your guide is finished, I'd suggest adding it to BZ's GotGs.

>>48582174
I would for the kineticist, I haven't read enough about the vigilante playtest yet, but I'd lean towards yes since I tend to trust DSP.

>adding the guide to the repository

That was on the agenda and an excellent thing to remember... I was just considering waiting on making sure most of the Legendary Vigilantes content was actually finalized before spreading it out to the general masses (IE: making a thread on GitP). Aside from that, it's really ready for an opening presentation, since every section after the Vigilante and Social talents is pretty much just superfluous anyway.
Gotta deal with all that tomorrow, though. Getting dragged into a game whose GM lives on the other side of the planet was a terrible idea.
>>
>>48582216
Give me some time to check it out and I'll give a more solid answer, since I don't want to just say yes or no without being aware of what it can do. I'd really like to get more into PoW content, but I'm holding off until the fabled errata before I really weigh in on it.

I thought core was all the books categorized here. http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG

Cause you got things like player companion, settings, modules, adventure paths etc as other categories. http://paizo.com/pathfinder

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game books and accessories focus on the core rules of the game, expanding player character options and helping Game Masters run engaging adventures and campaigns. These expansive, beautifully illustrated volumes focus strictly on rules and options, making them suitable for use with any campaign setting.

I'm trying to figure out how to assign DCs, but can't seem to find it in the Core or the Gamemastery Guide. Am I just blind?
