You are Captain SAMANTHA WELLINGS, a newly minted captain of the Centauri Accord!

Currently, you were in a bit of a jam. You had just saved (though she insists that you "helped") her from her mutinous subcaptains under her command. And while the immediate threat was dealt with, there was the issue of getting back to the damn ship.

Unfortunately, a deep rumble that shook the entire room seemed to indicate things were not going as well as hoped.

"Well shit, it figures that they'd have their crews in on it, too." Carly groans as she saunters over to the front door. "Looks like we're gonna have to clean house."

She then glances back at your horrified expression.

"Ah, don't worry, this kind of thing happens all the time in pirate bands!" Carly laughs. "It's like spring cleaning!"

Somehow that didn't quite convince you.

>Fine, I'll help you clean house.

Wait, if Carly becomes part of our crew, what position would she fill?

It'd be sorta weird to have two captains on a ship (if we keep our current one, or upgrade), so I guess we could have one of us act as a body double for the other when convenient.

"Fine, I'll help you clean house." You groan as you check the charge on your plasma pistol. It was still in the green, so you were good for a few dozen more shots. "But we're out of here once we're done."

"Pirate's honor!" Carly grins as she hits the door control. The conference room's heavy steel doors slide open and she casually shoots the two guards posted in front.

You give her a judging look.

"What?" Carly looks at you curiously. "They ain't mine. Better safe than sorry."

"It's going to be that kind of cleaning ,isn't it?" You groan.

"Hey, it keeps things simple, and there's more loot for the survivors!" Carly laughs. "Now come on, lets see if the armory's been looted yet or not. We're gonna need some bigger toys than these popguns!"

"Maybe we should call for some help from the ship?" You suggest as you follow Carly up the entry hall and she starts casually shooting the rest of the sentries before they can react. SHe was getting a bit too trigger happy here. "You know, maybe Tank or Bolts or something?"

"Well, I kind figure they'd be busy guarding the ship." Carly points out. "Besiiiiides. I'm sure the both of us can handle it! We've been through worse, right?"

Given Sam's surprisingly good performance during missions when she's boots on the ground, what do you think her other superior officers are thinking when they're reading the reports of her infiltrating facilities without detection, fighting people in hand to hand combat, or doing nigh-impossible things straight out of an action movie?

"I suppose..." You groan, unenthusiastically remembering all those previous times you had to bail Carly out of trouble when you were kids.

"Great!" Carly's face shines happily as she skips up the hall to where it connects back to the main chamber of the base.

And it's total chaos.

Pirates of all types and sizes are running, brawling, shooting. Fighting for greed or for simple survival. The air is dripping with yells, screams, and gunfire, and already you could see dozens of bodies littering the floor. Without the Captains to lead, what started out as a coup had now devolved into a free for all riot.

Not exactly the most ideal of situations.

"Okay, so where's the damn armory." You hiss.

"Just across the chamber!" Carly points to another hallway across the room.

The room packed full of fighting pirates.

You shoot a poisonous glare at Carly.

"What, if we run fast enough nobody will notice us!" Carly laughs nervously.

"HEY YOU STUPID MOTHERFUCKERS!" You bellow, trying to channel your sister as best you can at the top of your lungs as you stride out and start firing your plasma pistol into the air wildly. "YA WANT ME? COME AND GET MEEEEEEE!"

And you do grab their attention, for better or worse. Fighting is briefly paused as eyes turn to you.

"Hey, it's the Captain!" Someone shouts.

"She can solve this!" Another barks back.

Uh oh.

And that's when a few of the pirates step forward.

"Some of the boys are saying that you killed all the other captains!" One of the scowls. "So what did they go and do to deserve that?"

"Ahahahahaha..." You laugh nervously for a second. "BYE."

And that's when you sprint forward with a sudden burst of speed, darting straight through a gap in the gathered pirates' line. An unintended advantage of your relatively small size and stature. You see arms and hands reach out to snatch you, and you wince as you can feel a few strands of your hair get pulled off, and your (borrowed) overcoat gets yanked off as you scramble away from the angry mob.

And right in front of you, you see Carly, with a giant, absolutely lethal looking weapon in her hands. Gasses hissed from tubes and pipes snaking around the body and barrel of the weapon, and you could see a picture of an angry alien beast crudely painted on the barrel.

But most of all you notice the murderous smile on Carly's face.

"IT'S BARBECUE TIME!" She hollers as she pulls the trigger. You duck right in time as a stream of white hot flame jettisons out of the massive flamethrower, dousing the entire room in fire and death.

Now, you were no stranger to seeing people getting cooked alive. Space was a dangerous place, and disasters like cooked off ammunition and fuel or major fires were everyday realities of living on a ship, especially a ship getting attacked and boarded.

So, it wasn't really the screams or the stench of burning meat that truly bothered you. What bothered you was Carly's excited smile at the carnage, highlighted by the flickering flames.

"Carly! CARLY!" You bark as you clamber to your feet and slap your hand on her shoulder. "Stop it!"

"What are ya talking about?" Carly cackles. "The fun's just-"

Your slap echoes through the now silent chamber, snapping Carl's head to the side. The flamethrower drops from her hands, clattering to the ground as the flames sputter out. Carly just stands there, bewildered.

"You... you..." Her mouth drops as she stares at you. "You HIT me."

"You're damn right I did." You scowl. "I don't know what the hell happened to you out here, but pirate life has changed you, Carly."

"But-"

"Not buts!" You point to the smoldering remains of her former underlings. "LOOK AT THAT. The Carly I know never would have enjoyed killing people like that!"

"I... I...." Carly stammers, unable to come up with a response.

"Let's just..." You sigh, suddenly feeling tired. "Let's just go. Away. Off this damn planet."

"Y-yeah..." Carly nods absentmindedly. "We just need to get a few things..."

There's a series of clicks. Yep, he's still alive. Probably glad to know you're alive, too.

"Is the ship secure?" You ask.

One click. Ship secure. That was some good news. You consider asking Tank to come and accompany you and Carly. However, you also weren't too keen on leaving Scott alone on the ship, considering that yeah, Carly's crew was currently friendly, but they were still pirates.

I'd be guessing that most of them require them to be manned by a lot more people than an Accord ship like ours, and we're sort of having some mutiny issues on our plate.

The best I think we can realistically do is a shuttle to at least get us into orbit.

"Okay, so where are we going, then?" You ask Carly as you turn off your comm.

"Control room. I gotta grab a few things before we go." Carly says, now looking far more tired and subdued.

"Well, then, lead the way." You nod a bit awkwardly.

Carly takes the lead. However, instead of going down to the base's lower levels like you expected, she instead leads you to what looks like a solid concrete wall. Carly then pulls a remote from her pocket and hits a button. You see seams appear in the wall as a secret door slides open.

"Always keeping secrets from your crew, huh?" You raise an eyebrow.

Carly just remains silent as she steps into the concealed elevator on the other side of the door. You quickly follow her inside as the elevator starts lifting up.

Fuck it was so odd seeing Carly so quiet.

You decide to stand and take the hit. Carly's fist impacts the side of your face like an asteroid, and your vision flashes briefly, but you refuse to fall over or get knocked out. A flurry of additional punches against your chest follow, but each one gets weaker and weaker. You finally get a look at Carly's face, and can see it streaked with tears.

"Are you done yet?" You ask.

"It's... it's not fair!" Carly sobs. "No matter what I do, you're... you're always looking down on me! I try to make a name for myself as a pirate... and you become a big shot space captain! And you get your own awesome crew while I can't even keep a bunch of fucking thieves together!"

By this point, Carly has stopped hitting you and buries her head in your chest, sobbing uncontrollably. You... you don't really know what else to do but wrap your arms around her and hold her close as she cries it out, her tear soaking into your shirt.

What do you say in this situation?

"I'm sorry it turned out this way." You sigh as you stroke Carly's hair. "It definitely isn't fair. You didn't deserve getting throw out into the cold like that."

Carly just sniffs.

"It honestly could have gone either way." You continue. "I mean, maybe things would have been different if you were the one to go the Academy instead of me."

"Y-you think so?" Carly finally pulls her face out of your chest.

"Of course." You grin. "I mean, after all the shit you went through, you still got a loyal crew, right? I mean, I find it hard to see people like Artya, Anne, McSpam, and Bolts betraying you or anything."

"Heh, you really think that, huh?" Carly smiles bitterly. "Probably all just bidin' their time..."

Now you were starting to see it. The stress of living the high risk lifestyle of a pirate, and always having to live looking over her shoulder... it certainly had to have had an affect on her psyche over the years.

"Do you honestly really think that?" You give Carly an accusing glare.

"Well..." Carly mumbles but is then interrupted when the elevator reaches its destination, the door opening with a pleasant chime. "Well, time to get to work!"

With that, Carly pulls away from you and prances into the control room, which basically looked like a ship's bridge. You see Carly pulling data from the gathered computers and storing them in an external drive.

"Star charts and shit. Stuff every pirate needs." Carly explains. "And uh... bank account numbers."

"Bank account?" You raise an eyebrow.

"What, you think I'm dumb enough to leave physical loot around for people to steal? Please." Carly rolls her eyes. "I do what the smart rich people do and put all the money in banks. Harder to get ripped off or stolen that way."

"Wow, Carly, I'm actually kinda impressed." You say in surprise. "That's some forward thinking right there.

"Haha, yeah, well- crap." Carly's eyes are drawn to the observation windows. You can see the other assorted pirate ships starting to take off and leave the hangar. "Ah, well, looks like people are trying to cut their losses and run. As if they're actually going to get anywhere."

You watch Carly as she hits a few keys, and her finger hovers over a big red button.

"A weapon?" You raise an eyebrow.

"Yeah, remember when I said the previous owners used missiles to seed the atmosphere? Well, turns out there were still a few missiles left, so we swapped out the sciency stuff and switched it lots of explosive. Was supposed to be used as a defensive weapon but..."

"Do whatever feels right, Carly." You say calmly.

Carly nods and pauses for a bit, looking out the window as her former crew tries desperately to escape the planet. She then pushes down the launch button.

Almost immediately, you can see missiles gout out from the facility, veiled in smoke and fire as they blast off towards their targets. You watch grimly as the pirate ships, still trying to clamber to the safety of space, are rudely interrupted as the massive missiles slam into them, exploding and sending the burning wrecks plummeting back down to the earth below.

"All right, let's get out of here." Carly sighs, as if this was the last time she would read those words. "Guess it's just gonna be you and me."

"Since when was it not?" You chuckle.

"Ha... good point." Carly chuckles back.
