The fear from Julio's neighbors got you psyched up, you don't think you can stand still. It feels like you can jump buildings in a single bound, so you give an experimental hop. That's dissapointing. Reigning in your distraction, right now there are a few options on the table. You could just walk to 7th Street to talk to the boss, he wanted you ASAP. But you don't know how long this rush will last.

Obviously he would understand if you took the night off after literally dying. Maybe you could hunt down that imposter and bring the boss his head on a platter. That or information on the guy. Of course you could actually take the night off and practice your abilities to impress the boss in the morning. Sleep would probably be good for you, but maybe you don't need sleep anymore, who knows?

The street is almost deserted, the neon badges no longer flash "Open" in the stores, and the rain is now pouring. Pavement echoes with the pitter-patter of a machine gun spray of water, bringing back memories of simpler times, back when you were young and angry. Well, you're still both of those things, so maybe you should just let that instinct in.

You pull out your phone and make a call to the unmarked number on speed dial. The phone rings three times and picks up, but nobody says anything. Remembering the password, you dial the numbers 070 and wait a minute. A man with a low voice answers with an exasperated sigh.

"Boss says take a night off if you need it, you lucky bastard. He told Julio to tell you that, but if you're calling he expects that to be why." The boss pulls that sometimes, saying stuff he should have no idea about, you suspect he has his methods but you never asked him about it. Better to just let him have his fun.

The phone hangs up about a block away from Cuervo's and you see three guys hanging around an alley. They aren't wearing any blue and seem to be trading something. You called for the night off, but you get the feeling messing with these guys would be fun. Haven't got the chance to try out the new powers yet.

"Just what the fuck do you think you're doing selling on our turf?!" You feel the shock run through them and their veins run cold, but you don't think you could handle any more fear.

"We're just trading, man, honest!" One of them glances at your pin and you can tell that he's going to his basic reactions. This one isn't in any colors and has a distinct junkie look, so when he runs you pay him no heed. The others aren't so smart. One of them has started to circle behind you and this guy is obviously distracting you.

"You're going to drop that knife, stand in front of me, and give me everything you earned plus everything in your pockets. This is overtime for me."

"Yeah? And why would we do that batterylicker?"

"Because if you don't, you'll be eating through a straw for the rest of your life. If I decide you're that lucky." The fear bleeds into the your voice and it licks at them like flames as you speak. The very same drive that caused that junkie to run clicks in them.

You quickly stand up and slap him in the face, the fear oozing into him again.

"Try that again and you're dead! I'm asking a fee for being in MY territory! I could always just kill you and take the money, but I don't want to get blood on my clothes again today! Now drop the knife and give me your wallet!"

He freezes up and begins shaking, dropping the knife and fumbling for his wallet, he tosses it at your feet swiftly. You could leave this guy now, but you have other plans.

"You see anybody run through here?"

"Y-Yes, he threatened us and then ran towards Theta Avenue. He wasn't wearing a pin though, you gotta believe me!"

"Pick up the wallet." He scrapes down and grabs the wallet. You take the opportunity to give him a swift kick to the ribs and he falls over with the wallet raised in the air. You take it from his hand and pull the one from the other guy who's staring a million miles away.

"Come to my turf again and you'll be sorry."

You leave the stunned dealers and start heading to Theta Avenue. It felt good to use your power, you always had a knack for intimidating people, but this is something more raw. This turns a hardened criminal into a schoolyard bully, all that numbness to fear goes right out the window when you get the pure thing. It's exilerating.

You spot your reflection in a puddle and see a glimpse of that shadowy nightmare. It's following you, but you aren't feeling fear, more like brotherhood. It's the feeling of a friend that was there to help you at your lowest point, even if the thing looks terrifying. You turn to look at it and see nothing. Maybe you do need sleep.

You start down Theta and the street is quiet. The rain has stopped and no cars drive the street, not a single passerby. That's odd, but not unexpected. Capes always love their damn theatrics.

"Yeah, yeah. 'I am the night' and all that jazz. Just come out so we can fight like men." You hear a trashcan rolling over from an alley behind you then a man in a robe and pointed mask walks out of it. He's trying to conceal a limp and you can see a tear in the robe where he must've scraped it on something.

"I was going to saw vengeance, but night sounds better." He sounds like any random guy out here, but definitely not too old. Maybe he'll-

You pull out your knuckles and go for a swift punch to the face. You barely committed to it so you could dodge a knife if need be, but it hits him full force as he goes on about his life story. He tumbles off to one side and you see more than a few cracks in his mask. He should definitely be dazed at the least, and with the leg injury he's taking his sweet time getting up.

"Y-you're using brass knuckles!"

It's more that if we get known for killing our enemies, then our enemies will do the same. I'd assume there's an unspoken rule where so long as you're non-lethal you can expect the same from your enemies, but once you start killing supers, other supers will gang up on the guy going around killing their kind. I could just be paranoid though,

He pushes himself to his feet to dodge your punch, but he only ends up putting his face in front of your fist. This is sad. Your fist plows straight into the mask and it breaks into shards, some of them sticking into his face. The now maskless magician falls flat on his back with cuts and bruises all over his face. As he writhes on the floor you hear him say something.

Suddenly the street is gone and everything is dark, you are still awake but you can't see. He blinded you! You grip the knuckles tighter and get into a defensive position. You focus on that monster that follows you and tap into the feeling it gave you, then the darkness recedes into fog as the noise comes back. He seems to be stepping back as you rise higher than normal and see your reflection in a puddle.

You float with bloody stumps where your limbs were, clad in ratty clothes as you hover near him scowling. He shrieks and fumbles for a book.

"No! No! I killed you! You were dead! I was sure!" You get a flash of awareness and see that whoever you remind him of killed his sister. You smile and the figure's face splits wickedly into a cheshire grin.

"You can't kill me, I'll be watching for that right moment to take you, then I will." You run at him then he stumbles backwards and hits his head on a wall. He's out cold. You feel the tendrils of fear fade and lower to the ground.

You consider phoning the police, but instead you dial the boss' number. Right as you enter the last digit to pass a text pops up.

"Pick-up en route, sit tight." You really need to ask the boss what he does. It's bugging you with all the superpowers flying around.

You eventually are picked up by a hearse and the vigilante is placed in a coffin, kind of morbid, but you imagine it's effective. Eventually you get taken to the Thurgood Casino on 7th Street, the normal meeting place for the boss. The driver lets you in the back entrance right as the rain starts again. The back is more of a lounge than a casino and the boss likes to have his comforts. He's sitting in a large chair across from a similar couch, so you take a seat.

The boss never shows his face, always with the costume, if you watched news maybe you'd know what his cape name is. But he's the boss so it's not your problem. Though he galavants around in spandex, he always seems like he's serious about everything he says, and you aren't going down like the last guy who questioned his apparel.

"Michael, how good to see you. I also see you found the man responsible for our fiasco. Excellent, do you mind telling me how you did it?"

"He poisoned us with something that's supposed to scare us to death or something. Unlucky him, I ended up with Fear powers out of the whole deal." Alt's get crazier and crazier every day, he was gibbering about magicians or something when you punched him in the face.

"Huh, well then that's rather convenient. My right hand Daryl was hit by this guy and I find myself in need of a replacement. I invited you here to discuss this position's merits and if you're prepared, but with this under your belt I'm sure you are. The work entails helping me with my more "high profile" business."

"What does that mean exactly?"

"It means that you'll get to knock skulls, assist in robbery, and beat up self-righteous vigilantes like this one for a living. That and we need some new Enforcers trained up. Do you think you're ready for this?"

"I need time to decide."
