You know what? I've been here for a while. I always loved this board and the people on it. In November of 2011 I ran the very first evolution game on /tg/. It was a hit and people loved it. I have hosted many since and on many different platforms.

So I have had a few drinks and I want to play this game! The rules are so simple - take a creature and edit it. Save as .png and upload it. Give a small description as to what changed. Then someone evolves your shit. And it just keeps going.

So we start with a few critters:

Dimos - basically a clam without a shell. Just a really useless creature. It has a tongue and eats bugs out of the sand.

Elget - a bipedal reptile. It's an omnivore, but it loves to eat meat. Kinda just fucks everything up

Scrump - a worm with a small shell. It can get 75% of its body in there, but it doesn't protect it much.

We live on a small island. There are a lot of fish in the sea, bugs, and trees.

And fuck /qst/, that place ain't worth my time.

As a simple defense from the predatory Elget, some Dimos develop a rather foul, bitter taste. Sometimes an elget will retch from the flavor. Dimos take this opportunity to escape their clutches.

Some of the more basic Dimos begin to prey on their Sand Dimos brethren. How do they go about this?

A larger, more powerful tongue is used to taste the sand. Capable of tasting whether the sand has recently been filtered by a Sand Dimos, they follow the trails led by their Sand Dimos cousins. Once they have tracked them down, they use this powerful muscle to invade the orifices of their cousin (thus evading the awful taste) and use it to scope out their innards for consumption. Once all of the tasty organs have been carved out by the muscular tongue, this breed of Dimos moves on to find more prey.

This predatory subspecies, that preys exclusively on Sand Dimos, is known as the Defilos.

Interbreeding between the different subspecies of Elget leads to the Swift Elget, a superior breed. The Swift Elget possesses the toe webbing and tail fin of the Swimming Elget, and the tusks and body type of the Tusked Elget. This Elget proves to be a superior hunter on land, as well as a better hunter of the Gulper Scrump on at sea. Its strong, webbed feet, and thick, straight tusks make it a better digger than the previous breeds of Elget, allowing to to bury its eggs deeper, and dig up the buried long-neck Dimos.

As the pale elget branches out and explores new territory, a new breed has adapted to rockier and more arid climates. Because of decreased predation from Elget and Defilos, the Long-Necked Dimos population grows larger and fatter. The population of Long-Necked Dimos grows along with their size leads to a decrease in the amount of food available in the tidal zone. Species that do not feed on Dimos, such as the Scrump and Swimming Elget are forced further out to sea, some Defilos return to the tidal zone due to easier hunting.

Select breeding between the arid breed of pale elget and the delget has resulted in a new creature known as the delgor. The delgor maintains a likeness to both its parent breeds.

It is slightly smaller than the delget, but much more powerfully built. The tusks have grown much larger so that the delgor can just as easily kill its prey as it can turn over small logs and dig for grubs. The neck has grown longer and stronger to support the increased weight to the head. The horns on the tail have gotten smaller, but thicker and heavier. The delgor's legs, while not as big as the delgets, are much more defined in its musculature. The delgor is a powerful jumper and runner, favoring the predatory habits and diet of its pale elget ancestors.

The delgor's coloration has adapted so that the delgor can hunt both on the plains of the delget and arid canyons of the pale elget.

As prey on the plains continues to increase in size and number, so too does the delgor. Abandoning the paltry offerings of the arid canyons and rocky places, the delgor begins to specialize entirely on hunting within the grasslands of the world. It grows larger and stronger, to better compete with its primary food source: the delget.

The delgor's skin coloration begins to take on an appearance not entirely different from the delget's. This serves the delgor as both camouflage and as a potential way to fool the delget into thinking the delgor is one of them.

The delgor has also sprouted a pair of small, powerful arms designed to help grip its prey at close range.

In order to better defend itself against the sand defilos, a new breed of delgor has emerged.

The Spitting Delgor, as it is known, has developed longer arms with pincer-like claws and stronger feet equipped with massive claws. In addition, the horns on its tail have also grown to a much longer length as have its tusks. The addition of longer, more powerful claws, horns, and tusks, has come about so that the spitting delgor may better fight off an ambushing sand defilos and potentially damage the beast internally if it is swallowed alive.

The most notable thing about the spitting delgor, however, is the venomous gizzard-like mane that grows from its neck. This poisonous appendage serves the spitting delgor by creating a hot acidic substance that may prove fatal to both prey and predator alike. If attacked, the spitting delgor will blast short bursts of the hot acid at its foe in rapid succession.

Not being an image board reduces the easy overview of evolutions lines by a bit. However, not being pushed off the board due to low activity is a bonus.

Due to increased sealife variety and size, the Long-Necked Dimos's reign falls to a close, as their large size makes them ample prey to the aquatic Defilos. The introduction of an additional predator species reduces their overall size and numbers, favorizing those with more potent poisons and better ways to spread that poison instead of larger body mass.
>>
If the Sand Defilos is a super apex predator the size of a sarlacc pit with nothing it needs to fear, wouldn't it stop producing poison which makes it inedible? It's grown to such a massive size and nothing ever eats it, so isn't its toxins an evolutionary dead end now?

It works quite well, actually. I inspired the creation of /evogames/ on Reddit. It's downfall was too many games running at once. Everyone just dabbled in each game and no one really committed to any of them. They all died. I'm trying to correct it by only running one game at a time.
>>
>>48441103
Too be fair, as it somehow increased to sarlacc pit size it would have lost its poison under way, having an actual size scale for the creatures would be nice, since alot of features of life forms is dependant on their size. Producing toxins is generally outfavored for more muscle power in larger animals.

I'd say if something has changed little over time, that should mean that it has been fairly successful where it is. Like horseshoe crabs, or the coelacanth.

True in reality, however things that don't change here just die by rule of god.

Well, we could vote on evolutionary "successes" and decide that those creatures no longer need people to evolve them or w/e.

Since Aether is the OP, deciding on stuff like this is really up to him.

Some Scrump take a different approach growing a thin fin on both sides to give a flatter more seaweed like appearance.
While improving the disguise it inhibits movement. The Seaweed Scrump mainly travels by releasing the rock it's gripping and letting the current carry it.

the stubby-toed delget is no longer known for its stubby toes. as its natural predators have increased in size, strength, and brutal efficiency, the stubby-toed delget has had to develop further defensive capabilities.

what started at its tail has now worked its way up the spine and skull. several bony protrusions now line the delget's hide as it is now known as the "razorback delget."

I know its a bit esoteric, and feel free to argue it against what you already have made, but:

solar intake
-such as photosynthesis
chemical intake
-such as thermal vents

I would argue that a creature feeding off thermal vents may actually be a detritivore, as its usually eating minerals and clumps of roasted alge/ bacteria, but with it being specialized, i put it there despite not having a strong support of it.

Due to a mutation and following natural selection the RB Delget has a third springy leg in front of its other two. This leg allows them to run faster to pose more challenge to predators while they're younger. It also allows for the stomping of smaller Defilos. Their skin changes to brown, a result of browner herds having it easier to discover the presence of the green Delgors.
