You and Krillin spend a short time talking with one another before deciding to get a good night's rest. He and Goku both have matches tomorrow, and they want to be at their best for them.

It has been a long day, and you are pretty tired, so you fall asleep rather quickly. Also, sleeping in a bed again after three years of mostly sleeping on the ground is a pretty fantastic feeling.

Unfortunately, while falling asleep is easy, staying asleep proves rather difficult. Before too much time passes, your eyes snap open, and you glance around in the darkness, swearing you heard something.

Then, your eyes are able to just barely make out a figure standing beside your bed.

"Who are you?" you ask the figure.

In answer, he takes a fighting stance, throwing a palm-strike aimed at your heart. You bring your arm up, blocking it, but he seizes your wrist and pulls you close, giving a solid kick to the jaw that sends you up into the ceiling.

The sound of you crashing against the ceiling, and the grunt you make as you fall back into your bed wakes the others.

"Who's that?" Krillin asks.

The figure turns and flees.

"Wait, you're-" Roshi begins before the attacker crashes through the sliding door and leaps down from the balcony.

Goku immediately gives chase, and Krillin isn't far behind.

Following Goku and Krillin, you race through the remains of the door and leap from the balcony, hearing Master Roshi shout behind you.

"Doesn't anybody remember how to use the stairs?"

As you and your friends descend from the balcony, you watch the retreating figure reach the ground, but by the time the three of you land, he seems to have vanished altogether.

"Where'd he go?" Goku asks.

As if on cue, the attacker leaps from the trees, landing in front of Krillin and giving him a solid kick to the face. Krillin is thrown into the air, but backflips and lands in a fighting stance.

Goku attacks with a flying kick, but the attacker ducks under it, turning and throwing a punch as Goku lands. Goku ducks under it, grabbing the man's wrist and throwing him forward over his shoulder.

The attacker recovers quickly, righting himself and landing in a crouch. You take the chance to rush him, driving him back with a series of punches, then forcing him back into the air with another kick.

He seems to vanish altogether, but a warning from Krillin causes you to duck beneath a kick aimed at your head, allowing you to drop to the ground and kick back, knocking the attacker's legs out from under him.

He does several backflips to gain distance, but Krillin jumps onto his back. Krillin is quickly thrown off, but manages to remove the cloth covering the man's face.

"Wait, aren't you the Crane Hermit?" Goku asks.

"If this is about Tao, I was just defending myself," you insist.

"My brother is dead," Shen replies. "I don't care why. You shed Tao's blood, and now you will pay for it with your own."

You look to Goku and Krillin, and the three of you spread out just a bit, moving to surround Shen.

Now the one under attack, Shen readies himself for a defense.

The three of you charge, Goku attacking from the front, and you going to attack from behind alongside Krillin.

Shen leaps at Goku, and the three of you leap to engage him, only to find your attacks blocked by two new arrivals.

Tenshinhan gets between Goku and Shen, stopping their attacks, and Yamcha blocks you and Krillin from striking his master.

The two Crane Students drop to the ground as the rest of you move back, readying yourselves to face three foes.

"Tenshinhan, Yamcha, I don't recall inviting you," Shen scolds.

"Forgive us, master," Tenshinhan pleads. "But we did not want you to kill Tofoo."

Crane Hermit gives him a hard look. "Explain."

"Tofoo took Tao's life, and for that he deserves to die," Tenshinhan tells Shen. "But he did not act alone. Goku was involved, which makes him, as well as the Turtle School guilty."

"Your point?" Shen asks.

"A swift death is too good for them," Tenshinhan explains. "Yamcha had the right idea. They should die in the ring, broken and humiliated in front of everyone. Master Roshi, and all of their friends can feel the shame of watching them die, and the whole world will see their weakness."

"Your heart is cruel and vengeful," Shen comments. "It warms my own. You may proceed."

Tenshinhan bows. "Thank you, master."

Yamcha walks over to rejoin his master and fellow student without a word to you. Tenshinhan, on the other hand, comes to address you.

"You've made it through the first round," he says. "But next you will face Chaozu. And, even if you somehow defeat him, you will face me. When next we meet, we will fight for Tao's honor."

"I don't have a good feeling about this," Krillin admits.

"Me either," Goku agrees. "I get the feeling they're going to fight dirty. We need to be careful."

"I'm fighting Chaozu tomorrow," Goku recalls. "I wonder where he is."

"Who knows?" Krillin asks. "It doesn't really matter, anyway. You can take him no problem."

"I don't know," Goku says. "I have a weird feeling about him. I think he's dangerous."

"You really think so?" Krillin asks. "He didn't seem that impressive to me."

Goku shrugs. "It's just a feeling."

"Well, I still think you'll beat him," Krillin says. "Then I can take care of Tenshinhan, unless Jackie does it first."

The three of you return to the hotel, and, after assuring Master Roshi that you're fine, you all go back to sleep.

The next morning, Lapis arrives with Yamcha's sword.

"Lazuli wanted me to tell you your room's a mess," he says as he hands you the sword.

He shrugs. "Whatever. It's no messier than my room."

"Thanks for bringing this," you say, hooking the sword to your waist.

"Well, it was this or going shopping with my sister, not a tough choice," he says. "See ya."

Once Lapis leaves, you decide to go looking for Yamcha. You start at the hotel, and are told that he left for the tournament not long before. With that knowledge, you head for the tournament grounds and find Yamcha in the contestant area, speaking with Tenshinhan.

The two of them glare in your direction as you arrive, and Tenshinhan heads for the ring as Goku and Chaozu are called out to fight.

Yamcha stays behind, eyes falling on the sword.

"So, you weren't just lying to save your neck," Yamcha observes, sounding surprised.

Yamcha stares at you. He's not glaring, which is a nice piece of progress. But, he doesn't take the sword either. He looks surprised and confused, and not quite sure how to take what you're saying to him.

In the end, he reaches out, and pushes the sword away.

"I don't need it anymore," he says. "I'm not the desert bandit anymore. Thanks to Master Shen, I'm a great martial artist instead."

You remind him that back then he and Puar mostly scared people into giving up their stuff, and that they let people go in peace if they cooperated.

Yamcha's hands clench into fists. "Look, I don't need you passing judgement on me, or my master! And I definitely don't need Puar going behind my back! Just leave me alone!"

He turns and storms away, heading not for the ring, but leaving the contest hall all together.

He walks with his head down, presumably lost in thought. There are few people in this direction, so he doesn't really need to worry about bumping into anyone. You continue to follow.

Yamcha stops, and whirls on you, shouting at the top of his lungs.

"LEAVE ME ALONE!"

Deciding to give Yamcha some space, you do as he asks and make your way back to the contest hall, walking through and heading for the ring, where Goku's match against Chaozu is fully underway.

Goku is on the defensive, blocking attacks from Chaozu with apparent ease. Goku gives a counterattack, and Chaozu is kicked in the face and sent flying from the ring.

However, he quickly stops himself, floating above the ground and slowly rising higher into the air. He lifts his upper body, giving himself the appearance of standing on air, and then begins to walk across the sky.

Once he's just above Goku, he raises his right hand into the air, pointing a finger to the sky. It begins to glow with a yellow light, and he points it down at Goku.

"DODONPA!"

A ray of light shoots from Chaozu's finger, and Goku leaps back to avoid it. Chaozu doesn't let up, however, and sends a full barrage of the Dodonpa down at Goku, who scurries across the stage in an effort to avoid it.

Goku continues to rush around the ring for a while, doing his best to evade the blasts, and succeeding due to his rather impressive speed. He's gotten much faster, and if that blow he landed on Chaozu is any indication, he's gotten even stronger, too.

Knowing that he'll have to actually hit Chaozu if he wants a chance of winning, Goku bounces off the wall at the edge of the ring, springing himself up into the air right toward Chaozu.

Chaozu sees him coming, and moves to avoid Goku, but Goku moves fast enough to strike Chaozu just before he can get out of reach. Goku manages a punch to Chaozu's right cheek, but isn't able to deliver his full force with it due to Chaozu moving.

Goku falls to the floor of the ring, and Chaozu falls down several feet before stopping himself and returning to his prior altitude, where he resumes firing Dodonpa rays.

Goku avoids them again, and you see him cup his hands at his side.

"Chaozu, be careful!" Tenshinhan shouts up to the small fighter.

"Right," you hear Chaozu say.

He holds his hand up, and readies another Dodonpa. This time, he seems to take much longer to prepare it, and you get the feeling this means it will be much more powerful when he unleashes it.

Goku stops in his tracks, and you see a glowing circle of blue light appear between his palms.

"DODONPA!" Chaozu shouts, firing his blast down at Goku.

The resulting explosion as the Dodonpa strikes the ring is absolutely massive, and you're forced to shield your eyes from both the light and the wind that come as a result.

Looking at the ring as things settle, you see no sign of Goku. That blast was incredibly powerful, so if it hit Goku....

No, Goku wouldn't have just held still and taken the blast. He would have gotten out of the way. If you can't see him in the ring, that must mean he went into the sky.

Looking up, you see that you're right, as Goku rises until he's level with Chaozu, who is too preoccupied with looking around for him to notice.

"HAAAAAAAAAA!!!!" Goku shouts, unleashing his Kamehameha Wave on the distracted Chaozu.

Chaozu looks up just in time to take the blast full-force, and is subsequently knocked from the sky, covered in scorches.

You can tell that Goku restrained himself with that Kamehameha. Had he put his full strength into that attack, there would have been nothing left of his opponent. Good thing Goku seems to have complete control over it.

Once again, Chaozu stops himself right before falling out of bounds, and hovers back to the ring. This time, he seems to be having a much harder time of it, occasionally dipping down a few feet as he makes his way back.

Goku stands ready to resume the fight, but Chaozu seems to have other plans, first taking off his hat, then holding his hands out toward your friend.

"It's rare that I use this technique," Chaozu tells him. "But, for you, I will make an exception."

Goku readies himself for whatever's to come, only to suddenly drop his guard and clutch at his gut.

"What..." he groans in pain, staggering forward and falling to his knees.

Chaozu grins sadistically, stepping forward.

"What's he doing?" you ask, turning toward Tenshinhan.

The triclops smirks. "It's Chaozu's greatest technique. He may not be as physically strong as me or Yamcha, but he has powerful psychic powers. Right now, he's attacking your friend's insides. If that doesn't kill Goku, it'll at least leave him vulnerable enough for Chaozu to finish him off."

Chaozu steps closer to Goku, and as your friend struggles to so much as stand, the little fighter kicks him in the face, sending him slamming against the wall.

Goku tries to move forward and retaliate, but Chaozu uses his psychic abilities to keep him still and continue the attack on his insides.

"Fight me fair!" Goku protests through clenched teeth.

Chaozu laughs cruelly, and continues to attack Goku with his psychic abilities.

Goku yells in pain, opening his mouth wide as the smirking Chaozu draws closer. Your friend raises his head into the air, screaming into the sky before lowering it and letting a wave of light shoot from his gullet.

Chaozu's eyes go wide as the blast closes the distance between the two of them, catching the little guy entirely by surprise and striking him in the chest.

The result is a two-fold success. It disorients Chaozu enough for him to lose focus on attacking Goku, and it pushes Chaozu right out of the ring, sending him slamming against a wall.

"I wanted to save the Bear Shout until I fought you, Tofoo," Goku admits, laughing. "But I couldn't think of any other way to beat Chaozu."

"That weird psychic attack he has was nuts," Krillin says. "I'm glad I didn't have to fight him. I'm not sure what I would have done about that."

"I'm sure you would have figured something out," Goku tells him.

With two hours left until Krillin's match, the gang's going out to lunch. Will you join them?

Not really having anything else to do, you go to lunch with the others.

Ox King has recovered from his fight with Yamcha, and joins the gang for lunch, along with Chichi. Between his recovery and Goku's victory, everyone's in high spirits, and you all enjoy the delicious food.

Krillin, however, doesn't eat too much, preferring not to fight on a full stomach.

"So, does anyone know the name of Krillin's opponent?" the Ox King asks.

"I think his name is Pamphlet or something," Launch says. "What kind of stupid name is that?"

"No, it's Pamput," Bulma corrects.

"Who?" Goku and Chichi ask at the same time.

"Goku, you should know who that is," Bulma groans. "We watched him in my dad's theater."

"I know who Pamput is," Roshi tells Bulma. "Rose out of obscurity and won several large tournaments. They say he's never lost a fight in his entire career."

Everyone seems impressed by this, except for Chichi.

"Well, he's never fought Krillin," she tells Roshi.

"Hmm.." the old man thinks. "I've never seen Pamput in action myself, but Krillin would be foolish to underestimate him."

"Don't worry, master, I'll be careful," Krillin promises.

"He's not just a fighter," Bulma points out. "He's also a big-time actor. And a really handsome one..."

She sighs dreamily.

The crowd cheers, but Pamput doesn't show up.

The announcer looks around for him, but you and the crowd soon spot him, standing on the roof.

Pamput leaps from the roof, landing in the ring and waiving to the crowd, throwing punches and kicks into the air as a way of showing off.

You hear Bulma sigh, while Oolong asks if he's here to fight or sell autographs.

"Which of these fighters will emerge victorious?" the announcer asks.

You see Pamput say something to Krillin, then throw a punch at him, stopping just short of Krillin's face.

The audience goes silent. The match hasn't started yet, so Pamput shouldn't be throwing punches.

Krillin turns away from the other fighter, saying something that seems to catch Pamput off-guard.

"You don't know who I am, is that it?" Pamput asks loud enough for the microphone to pick up. "That's okay, you're just uneducated. But, you'll learn."

He turns to the announcer. "With your indulgence, I would like to give a demonstration."

"Well, it is a bit out of the ordinary, but go ahead," the announcer says.

Pamput begins throwing punches and kicks in the air again, and the crowd resumes its cheering. Pamput then turns, rushing at the wall on the edge of the ring, and shattering it with his elbow.

The crowd goes nuts.

"Can we get started now?" Krillin asks in a bored tone.

"Let the match begin!" the announcer shouts.

"Thirty seconds," Pamput says, holding up three fingers. "That's how much of Pamput's time you get."

He rushes at Krillin, only to be sent sailing out of the ring and over the horizon an instant later by a single punch from the smaller fighter.

The crowd is completely stunned, and Bulma puts her chin in her right hand.

"Huh, he's a lot stronger in the movies," she comments. "And, better looking too."

"You've all done quite well," Master Roshi tells the three of you. "Make sure you rest well tonight. Tomorrow the tournament will be decided."

She pushes off the tree, and you give her a quick hug, thanking her.

She quickly hugs you back, and the two of you go to rejoin your friends.

The tournament grounds remain open for a few hours, giving you and your friends some time to go check out the vendors and games.

Apparently, Launch is barred from any shooting galleries, and you notice a few of those stalls close the second she comes within eyesight of them. In response, she usually fires a few rounds off into the air in anger.

Oolong looks really irritated every time he sees one of those goldfish catching games, and Goku looks like he's going to go mad with all of the delicious smells filling the area. Krillin and Chichi seem more focused on each other than anything else, and it's kind of running the gambit between sweet and sickeningly sweet. Roshi keeps stopping to perv on women, earning angry looks from turtle.

"So, should we all go back to the hotel for a little r and r?" Roshi asks.
