Welcome back, to the 41st installment of Mecha Space Pirate Quest. Y-yes I know the pastebins weren't updated, I had a lot of things to stat and figure out. As always, you are Admiral Roarke Starwind of the Iron Kestrels, and you are about to reach Mars.

Previous Threads: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Mecha+Space+Pirate+Quest%2C+Collective+Game%2C+mecha

You've seen very, very old pictures of Mars, back when it was cold and red and thoroughly dead. You've also seen a few pre-war pictures too, when it was a paradise of greenery, steppelands and lush forests and shallow seas full of strange customized plant and animal forms. Mars has, over the course of its lifetime, gone from being the Red Planet to the Green Planet and had both its moons crashed into it and replaced with artificial satellites. Now, you're not really sure what to call it. Parts of it are still green, but swathes of the sphere are a dusty orange-red, as though some titanic hand clawed away the greenery in places to reveal the harsh desert beneath. Karen is staring at it in awe, leaning against you and ignoring the jealous looks she's getting from Red Siren.

"A real world." She murmurs, the colors reflected in the lenses of her spectacles. Plenty of pirates were born on a planet, or on one of the colonies orbiting one (or in your case, a colony orbiting one of the moons of a planet), but few ever come back once they start racking up a bounty. These centers of civilization are dangerous.

"Where are all the warships?" The pilot says, hunched over her instruments as if expecting a dozen Martian cruisers to gate out around the little transport any second now.

Narrative demands that Space Kirito attacks at the most dramatic moment, acting as our accidental cavalry and drawing the Martians away while we make a quick getaway in the Kaiser
>>
You see? This is how you pirate.
You sell bitches for fat stacks of cash and when you get the money you swoop in, take them back, and steal as much shit as you can on your way out.

I do slightly worry about a counter attack though.

Mohammed glances at the projected image of the planet and shrugs, "Phobos and Deimos are on the other side of the planet. The Holy Militia's ships will be there, rank upon rank of them lying in wait like dogs in a kennel, prepared to launch at a moment's notice. In a space battle, hiding your true strength can be a key advantage. We're in luck, the Avalon incursion has made them bunch up their forces."

There's a sudden beep, and another of the crew looks up. "U-uhm Admiral Starwind, sir, we're being hailed."

"That will be one of the orbital defense satellites." Mohammed comments.

You can see it as it swings into view against the backdrop of the planet, an ugly little blob of metal bristling with guns. CIWS turrets and larger anti-ship guns make it resemble a sea urchin with four glittering wings to gather the sun's light for power.

"Remember to keep them talking, Admiral. Your concubine Samantha needs a few more minutes to set up the sensor spoof package on the satellite. If the distraction doesn't work when it's time to leave, we could be stuck on Mars permanently." Mohammed notes.

You grunt, but acknowledge him with a smile, "It was a good plan, rigging one of the satellites to get a false reading of a giant warp gate fluctuation when they're expecting a massive enemy warship any second now."

He smiles grimly, "Thank me if it works, Admiral. It should get them out of position and give us time to get away...but as my father liked to say, 'shoulds are not woulds'. Then he would usually hit me with his cane."

I give 60/40 odds in favor of him not. It'd certainly allow us to see how his ship and machines stand up to Fairchild's top of the line models and ship. As is, our first priority is helping Fatima get out of there and that may involve convincing her that this is the best course of action for her.

You nod to the Kestrel on the comms. He presses a button, and you hear a bored, Martian-accented voice.

"Unidentified ship, please halt and allow us to scan you for verification."

"Right away, sir." You force yourself to sound servile, and gesture to the helmswoman. She slows the ship down, passing by the satellite well within range of its guns. For any pirate, it's a nerve-wracking moment.

"Let me see...Yum-5, registered to Scrumptious Incorporated. Is this Captain Yarrow speaking?"

"First Mate Renquist, actually. Captain's a little under the weather." Samantha made you read the ship's files, Yarrow is the Captain's last name. In a twist of irony, her first name is Susan, but she was rather pretty in the picture you saw of her and you're not sure your voice could be mistaken for hers.

"Aw. I hope she feels better soon. What's your cargo today, Yum-5?" You can hear the creak of someone settling into their chair on the other end of the comms.

>Some last minute shipments for the wedding of Her Lady Fatima and the honorable general [name here]
>>
>>48297527
Last I recall, this ship was a food carrying vessel so a list of food and the like in FINE detail should help. Start with things like fruit, veggies, listing their weight and ammount, and if he asks why, say it's best to keep things professional and serious as to not besmirch the captain's name.
>>
I wonder who Yarrow is? Pic Wong?
>>
>>48297563
Ok, probably not the best idea to directly mention the pair in case they try to contact them. We want to be professional, but vaguish with the delivery unless needed. We do not want to give them a source where they can ask questions because that WILL draw attention to us.
>>
>>48297622
We can say that were carrying a surprise shipment from one of the guests who would prefer to remain anonymous until the food is presented
>>
>>48297651

That's pretty sketchy.
>>
>>48297690
Ya when I read over it I kind of noticed that
>>
>>48297651
...that will DEFINETLY draw attention to us then. Do not mention the wedding at all in this case. If need be mention a delivery of food in the area, but not the wedding itself. If they ask, be cool and sly, maybe saying that 'confidentiality is an important part of business.'

>>48297737
That's probably the best idea, lets just say this

"You want the full cargo manifest or just the key points?" You sigh and pause for a moment as if bringing it up on your PC, "Let's see, we have food deliveries for every local souk and settlement from Phobos City to New Medina. 100 tons of dates..."

"Ooh, can I have one? Just kidding, sweetness, although you DO sound like a cutie patootie!" You hear the sound of snacks being munched over the comms.

"T-thanks, sir. Um, 50 tons of bananas, mangos, cashews..." You continue, a bit off-balance.

"Oh, don't worry about it. I already put 'assorted greenstuffs' into the log, like, the minute I saw you were with Scrumptious! You sailors are always so...stiff and proper, you know?"

"Just doing my job." You clear your throat.

"Anything for the biiiig celebrity wedding? Oh, I just LOVE weddings! So delish!"

"Maybe, I'd have to check...but I just handle the deliveries, I'm not important enough to get invited to these things."

"Oh sweetie, I'd invite you to MY wedding! I could just eat you up like a tender lamb haunchie." The Martian giggles, "I bet Yarrow picked you herself, she's got such a way with men...anyway, go on ahead. Take care on your way back, there's bad guys and pirates all over the news these days. Don't worry, I'm up here protecting you, like your own personal guardian angel~"

"T-thanks." You stammer again, uncomfortably. You gesture emphatically at the helmswoman, who stops snickering...although Karen and Miles don't stop at all...and puts the ship back into gear. It lurches forward towards the planet as you cut comms.

You glance over at Mohammed, who has an earpiece in and is in communication with the S-Betta. He nods and gives you a thumbs-up, and you sigh with relief. You were worried you might have to slow down before entering the atmosphere. The bay airlock opens briefly, and it closes moments later, with the stealth mech safely on board.

Crater lakes glisten a shimmering blue below you as the ship begins its descent. The helmswoman is nervous, but competent, and although atmospheric entry is a lot rougher than you'd envisioned you and the little ship make it down in one piece.

Mohammed guides you away from any settlements, touching down in a peaceful little canyon overflowing with white flowers and sharp grasses, scaring away a herd of wild donkeys in the process. Karen gasps in awe and clutches your arm, and Clemmy does the same from the other side.

"Are you sure you want to come along?" You ask her, quietly.

"Yeah, why? I said I'm done with the UJCIDF, they can't do much but treat me as a pilot now anyway. Besides, I finally get the chance to fight next to you!" The blonde woman grins and nuzzles against your shoulder, "I'm so excited my knees are shaking...I've always wanted to crash a wedding!" She laughs.

"Roarke, can I have one of those ponies?" Karen tugs on your arm, "Just one of the little ones?"

Clemmy huffs, "They're called burritos, dummy."

"Burritos are food, idiot! They're little horses, so they're clearly ponies." Karen points stubbornly at the fleeing animals.

"Horses have poofy tails like Rosie's hair, these little guys have ropey tails like YOUR hair, so these aren't horses, they're burritos!" Clemmy insists.

"You absolutely can't have one onboard." Richard states unequivocably, "It'll shit everywhere, make a ton of noise, and probably go insane and do both even more because it's not mentally capable of handling space."

"We had this talk when I wanted a goat, but farmboy said noooo." Miles grumbles.

"Goats are the most evil animals that have ever existed, with vigorous competition from geese." Richard growls.

"Camels are worse than anything." Mohammed insists, "They have minds shaped by Shaitan to be both a necessity and a punishment to man. A camel can spit in a man's eye and then bite his face off, and will do both for no reason other than spite."

"I think ALL animals are cute and precious." Red Siren arrives at the bridge, leaning against the doorway, "Especially Roarke."

"It's a good thing someone is watching Roarke to make sure he doesn't vanish into the woods like your tiger did." Karen comments innocently.

Red Siren bristles, "Yes, it would be just an AWFUL shame if someone was trying to steal Roarke and fatten him up with her awful cooking when I'm momentarily distracted."

"MEATBREAD IS THE FUTURE!" Karen stomps her foot at Rosita. "It's nobody else's fault that you're easily distracted, either!"

"This is why we need to get Fatima back quickly." You remark. You see the rest of your pilots have arrived, and quickly change the subject, "Alright. Mohammed, the map please."

Your Second Mate nods hastily and projects an image of the local terrain across the table. On the Rhinehawk, you would have a separate room for this sort of thing, but sadly this isn't the flagship and space is at more of a premium. His topographic map shows the area surrounding the wedding for several hundred kilos, including the three sensor towers whose range it sits inside. They form a shallow semicircle around it, part of a line of towers between the wasteland and New Medina.

"Why don't they just hold the wedding in the city?" Miles asks.

Mohammed shrugs, "This is the site where several wealthy patriarchs, including Rashad's and Fatima's fathers, swore allegiance to Hakim the Kinless. It is considered lucky for auspicious unions, which is why gardens were planted there. Many deals have been made and many weddings forged on that spot."

You go over your forces again in your head, "Five Scimitars, Two Pumpkinseed IIs..."

"Remember, if anyone asks, we're pirates." One of the girls piloting the Pumkinseeds winks. She's one of Gretchen's friends, the reporter herself has been left behind due to the fact that she would be contractually obligated to report on this raid. The other one giggles, "Don't you worry your pretty head, we know we're supposed to keep this a secret. As far as anyone needs to know, your people are piloting our mecha."

"...No problem, then. Three Cloaked Harpies..." You continue.

"SHINOBIS, Teitoku-sama!" Yoritomo corrects you instantly.

"Er, yeah, Harpy Shinobis. In addition to which, we have the Knuckle Kaiser, the Tarrasque, the S-Flowerhorn, the Archen, the S-Betta, the Osano-Wo, Basil's Warmouth Custom, the two Master Harpies, and...Moe, what are you calling your new mech?" You look up at him.

"The 'too-fucking-big-for-poor-Miles-to-paint-without-beer-Jove-damn-it-Dude'" Miles grouses under her breath.

"The Zulfiqar, I think." Mohammed scratches his head awkwardly, "I don't really get into naming my mecha the way some people do."

"...And the Zulfiqar." You conclude. "Right. We're splitting into four teams. Assault, overhead, tower busters, and the rearguard taking care of the ship. Karen will be running the comms from here. Let's handle the tower busters first. The three Harpies will handle Tower 1." You point and Mohammed marks it with a 1 using his PC, "Samantha, you're at Tower 2." She nods, and Mohammed marks that on the map too, he's got cheerful little pre-drawn images for all the mecha like the sprites in old pre-simulation video games, "Those two, we're taking by stealth. As for the third, that's the closest to the wedding...and Miles has suggested we just snipe it down. Can you really do that?" You glance at her.

She shrugs, "Not with my Master Harpy's rifle, no. I'm not planning to use it, though. It's a rule of sniping that size matters, and a really, really big cannon can generally shoot farther. I'm going to take the Tarrasque, ugly and bulky as it is, and melt the tower to fucking slag with the main cannon. Then I'll ride back with Richard while you take the Tarrasque, slap on that slave package Karen built for it, and get my mech from the ship."

"What about the people inside!?" One of the Pumpkinseed girls demands to know.

>>
Alright so lets take Clemmy Siren Sam and Oda and leave the reast to guard the ship
>>
>>48299212

Polygamy coming back into vogue is a relatively recent thing, but sensible in its own way. The Purging of Mars really did a number on its population, and Hakim made it legal again so the Martians could repopulate. Fatima isn't really a jealous person by nature, and because she views it as both a duty and a cultural tradition REVIVED BY THE GLORIOUS CALIPH DESPITE WHAT THE SUPPRESSIVE JOVIANS AND LUNARIANS SAID ABOUT IT she'd defend the practice vigorously if asked.
>>
>>48299175
Right. Sam should likely head back to defend the ship once she deals with her tower, along with the shinobis to serve as a quick means to quietly disable trouble makers. Clemmy should also stick behind to assist alongside a pumpkinseed. We want to keep our presence small and those who stick behind should be easy to assume that they are either cloaked, or could be seen as navy.

Oda and Roarke can work best with our police officer's scatter/smoke missiles, and Siren's flashiness can help draw focus on this group. Moe's machine is hard to tell since I don't know what systems he has, but if he should probably come with us to help convince Fatima.

Remember, our goal is to get fatima first and foremost, but that bit becomes as easy or as hard as her willingness to come with us. If we need to convince her, we do so, and we do not overstay ourselves if possible. No point in taking machines down either since our transport likely can't hold the scrap we get.
>>
Why did we bring Karen along?
>>
>>48299270
Actually switch Siren for Basil so we can have one of our better pilots defned the ship and we can make use of Basil's crowd control
>>
>>48299378

Moe's machine has a mostly even mix of range and melee. It's scaled up and based off the Exia rather than the Fairlion Paladinguy originally used, but it still has a weapon similar in concept to the MOE system on each arm, a souped-up Energy Pool that can project either beam blasts or a pata-style beamsaber.
>>
>>48299387
Someone has to maintain all our hodgepodge mechs.
>>
>>48299387
Ground control most likely. The kestrel is too far away and she's probably one of the better picks for watching everyone and relaying data and information.
>>
>>48299437

Me here. /m/posting and removed my trip and forgot to put it back on again.
>>
>>48299437
Then him coming may be good since he could provide a mix of melee and range for whats needed.
>>
>>48299175
Basil and Clemmy and Osono-Wa and Pumpkinseeds to hang slightly back. Rosita, Moe, Samantha and Tarrasque to join in. However many Scimitars in a patrol to guard the transport, Miles and Richard to jump out at a moment's notice.
>>
I just remember that Fairchild is going to be their so bring Clemmy might not be a good idea

So how about

Wedding team:
Roarke
Oda
Moe
Basil
Siren

Defense team:
Mook mechs
Miles
Richard
Clemmy
>>
>>48299551
Forgot Sam for Defense team
>>
A word of caution, don't forget your rearguard and don't make your decisions on who to bring with you on the basis of hoping they'll say something cute. This is Roarke's heist, and the vast majority of the talking by the pirates will be left to him. Additionally, that ship is your ticket off Mars, and if, say, raiders attack it and you've only left a few grunts hanging around...this arc might become considerably longer.
>>
>>48299587
Hmmmm, then Moe staying back might be a good idea. Lasers won't work too well in the chaff and his machine can offer support for the more mookish machines. It'd put a lot of strength on our defense team, but considering our goal is rescue and flight and not slogging through, then keeping moe on defense would be best.
>>
So far it's looking like this.

Wedding Team: Roarke, Oda, Basil, Red Siren

Rearguard Team: Pumpkinseed IIs, all units returning from tower duty unless you want Sam to show up and start picking enemies off in melee, Clemmy, Mohammed.
>>
>>48299655
Another thing to keep in mind is that why it might make the teams more lumpy, Fatima in the Tarrasque will boster or rescue team once we get her.

>>48299717

"Zulfiqar, S-Flowerhorn, you're in charge of the ship's guard. Moe, you're in charge until Miles and Richard get back, but take Clemmy's combat experience and advice into account. You can learn a lot from her." You nod at the two pilots you indicated.

"J-just don't get too excited and charge into a massive beam cannon and you'll be alright. Learning from your elders' mistakes is a key to success!" Clemmy smiles, "This way it won't be awkward if I see somebody I know."

"That's my special girl." You smile warmly at her, and she blushes happily, "Keep the Pumpkinseed IIs with you. They've had their rocket launchers modified to fire smoke and chaff rounds, so coupled with their beam sabers you'll have a lot of close combat strength to take advantage of the cover the rockets will create. After destroying their respective towers, the tower team will return to the ship to support the rearguard. This..." You draw a line on the map between the wedding site and the ship with your finger, and Mohammed fills it in on the screen with his PC, "This is the route we'll be taking on our return, barring unforeseen circumstances. Now, Basil's Warmouth has been modified with an enhanced thruster portfolio, so it is capable of atmospheric flight, like the rest of our assault team, therefore we won't have to worry too much about these canyons here or this ridge..." You point out the features on the map.

"And a bally good job the little woman did of it too." Old Basil says fiercely, "The Warmouth's a fine mech, sah."

"Glad to hear it. We'll be relying on you to spread chaff and smoke if needed. Rashad has no reason to believe we'd actually show up on Mars just to re-kidnap a woman we were already paid for, so we shouldn't count on violence and get too trigger-happy, but it's very likely he has security and they could pose a problem so we should be prepared to fight anyway."

"Samantha, I'm modifying your orders. You'll perch here." You indicate a spot on your escape route, "If we're escaping under fire, you can join in and help turn the situation around. If the ship gets attacked and they need you, though, go to them. Are there any questions?"

"Admiral, sah." Basil's back straightens with military sharpness, and his mustache bristles slightly, "We should do what we can to protect any civilians at the wedding. May I suggest that, if the enemy manages to scrape together enough guts between them to mount resistance, we pull back away from the crowd and take down the blighters where we can fight with impunity?" His mustache bristles vengefully. You recall that he liked Sheikh Ahmad, losing an old friend must sting.

"Excellent suggestion. It's not as if they won't pursue us, after all. If they try and take Fatima away in the confusion, I'll retrieve her personally. The Kaiser can take some punishment, and it's best if I'm the one who grabs her. Anyone else? No? Alright, let's go. I want the comms network up and every engine in the bay humming before the microgate generator finishes recharging." You check the chronometer on your PC, and with the meeting dismissed you head for the bay.

Aye. When I thought of the name, I wanted to keep with the blade names of the Mars based mechs. Figured this would be a good name. Guess we'll see how it does against raiders and attackers. If it kept some of the MOE system's defensive options, it'll be pretty good for it's role.

"And...you come back home too. You make him happy, you know." Karen adds, more quietly.

"Heh." Red Siren, for once, has no idea what to say. Then she smiles and gives Karen a thumbs-up, "You too."

You pretend like you weren't listening in, and head to do a final checkup on your mech, Rosita hurrying after you.

A short time later, relatively...

"All teams report in. Skies clear?" Karen's voice is crisp and unusually calm over the comms.

"Talon 1 reporting in, skies are clear. There's a sandstorm in the distance, but it's passing us by. No sign of hostiles." The leader of the Scimitar squad responds.

"Tower teams, are you in position and are your chronometers set?"

"Set." Samantha, sounding as professional as if she was still in the Jovian special forces.

"Set." Miles, sounding bored. She's been grumbling about the S-Tarrasque's unfamiliar systems since she got into it, aside from the giant cannon which she unabashedly wants to steal before giving the rest back to Fatima.

"TIMAH SETTO, HIME-SAMA! KESTRELS BANZAI! RAIRYU BANZAI!"
"BANZAI! TAICHOU ODA-SAMA BANZAI!"
"TEITOKU STORMWIND-SAMA BANZAI! NINJUTSU BANZAI!" The three Harpy pilots chime out in unision and with great enthusiasm.

"FIGHT HARD MY PUPILS!" Bellows Oda over whatever Karen tried to say in response.

"TAICHOU-SAMA! We won't fail you! All hail the rightful shogun! All hail the Oda bloodline! NIPPON BANZAI!" They call out.

"NIPPON BANZAI!" He bellows back. The air is thick with their patriotic fervor.

You probably should say something, but there are two problems with that. First of all, your lips and tongue are still a little numb from how hard you kissed Red Siren and Karen before you left. Second, you're as excited as the Storm Dragons and it would be hypocritical to admonish them.

You open up a private channel to the Archen, where Rosita is humming what you presume to be a potential tune for her next album, "Hey, China Girl. Thank you for everything."

She stops humming, then laughs, soft and warm, "Thank you for being with me. Let's save the princess and go back to Auditorium together. Oh, and...happy birthday, Roarke. I knew you'd get mad if I bought something else expensive after giving you the ship, so I was a good girl and restrained myself. There's a bottle of really, really good scotch waiting for us back home. I didn't bring it along because I know you and Fatima will probably want to spend time together on the journey back. It's in my room at the palace, waiting for you, just like I'll be in the new lingerie that I also bought because it's your birthday. Maybe I should tell you about it? It's red, and it's lacy, and..."

"UWAAA, I SAID STORMWIND-SAMA INSTEAD OF STARWIND-SAMA, PLEASE ACCEPT MY HONORABLE SEPPUKU ADMIRAL!" One of the Harpy pilots wails over the comms, his comrades hastening to reassure him.

You're distracted from the infinitely more pleasant conversation and flip quickly back to the ally commnet, "No! No! It's fine, cancel your shepuken. Sweet fucking Jove do NOT commit ritual suicide." You're extremely grateful for once that you actually knew what that word meant.

"Failing your duty is worse than a small dishonor, kouhai!" Oda confirms.

"Thirty seconds until." Karen chimes in, and begins counting down.

"Alright, Miles. No sweat. No pressure, you can do this..." You hear your First Mate muttering into the comms, "It's just a big damned gun, and a still target fifteen clicks away. You've got this." You hear a rattle of metal, then the sound of her kissing something, likely a piece of jewelry or a good luck charm.

The mines that were set by Samantha and the Harpies explode in the same instant. At the same time, a beam of raw, golden plasma from the Tarrasque's main gun tears the third tower in half. "Roarke, you're good to go, switching controls over to slave mode!" Miles pops the hatch and climbs out, onto the hand of Richard's Master Harpy.

The small screen that Karen jury-rigged into your cockpit lights up. She'd explained to you that the hardest part of making this system was that there's no standard way to do it, the system that can control a S-Slayer can't simply be repurposed to control the Tarrasque because the two mecha are completely different. Granted, anything can be done with time and ingenuity, but time isn't a luxury you had in this case. It does have a few standard programs she built in, namely following you in flight and how you plan to arrive at the ceremony site. You select the follow program, and tailed by your squad you set off to crash a wedding.

I might have to revise that. Fake Ornstein, the first one. Why? Because of synergy.

SOUL A works well because, unlike B at this point (and that will change rapidly) of the synergy it has. Individually, it's made up of three mecha that are tough but have fairly prominent weaknesses (Naomi's reliance on her shield, Caesar's weak ranged game, Pierre's lack of specialization). Together, they cover those weaknesses pretty thoroughly.

Since Dio is going to be one of our kids how can we make his mech ZA WARUDO
>>
>>48308780

Ask about the what now?
>>
>>48308809
Oh very well then. The character started from the lifepath. Slave background, with seven siblings (three of them being 'twins' with my character). Then we used the concept character method of rolling up characters, then boosted the total up to 70. This brought about a character who apparently was four feet tall, a former slave, and has an enormous family. Most of her siblings were neutral to her, but one admired her, and one hated her. SO, my GM and me came up with the following narrative:

Cloning is super illegal, obviously, but light genetic engineering can be gotten away with sometimes. Thus, a (now extinct) corporation performed genetic engineering on its 'indentured employees' to make it so they were tiny but robust (so they could work in factories built smaller to save money on construction and maintenance), designed to have numerous children (predisposed towards twins and triplets) so the company (which expected to be around for a long, long time) could always have new employees, and had a rather odd tendency towards albinism.

My character grew up a slave, saw her entire family as slaves, everyone around her slaves, and saw a long(ish) life ahead of her as a slave. She hated it, but was willing to accept it. Then her parents had another baby when she was 12. Upon seeing this baby, she damn well lost her shit, kidnapped the baby girl, and ran off with her. Raised her on the streets as an urchin, then part of a gang, and then as a pirate when she got picked up when someone noticed her rather high talent with mecha simgames like Bluegill Joe. She worked her way up and became first mate, then captain when the old captain kicked it. Now she's captain of the Ardent Chevaliers, and pilots the Paladin C. I made up those names before Wong unveiled Avalon, but decided to run with it.

She's inordinately proud of her little sister (who she considers her daughter), who has Technical Ability 10, Intelligence 9, and Education 8.
>>
>>48308975
You probably don't recall, but I wanted to ask if the background I came up for my character was kosher or not. If it was cohesive with the rest of the setting and all.

He still painstakingly took the effort to carry Polnareff to the bottom of those steps, multiple times, leaving him deliberately unharmed, for no purpose other than to fuck with someone he was, in all likelihood, going to have to kill later.

Also of note - deliberately breaking each and every strand in Emerald Green's web (instead of simply traveling in a straight line as would have been more convenient); and deliberately NOT breaking a single strand of the spiderwebs between him and Hol Horse (presumably exiting and reentering the room behind Hol Horse, or else crawling under the webs?).

It depends on where she's from. I mean, honestly, you'd be more likely to get away with it outside the solar system. I never want to discourage anyone, but that corporation probably went extinct because it got purged for gene-tampering with humans on a large scale. General Hermione Fairchild sips a fruity little cocktail and tries not to look too bored. She's gone out of her way to look absolutely fabulous for this affair. Her usual uniform has even been replaced with a formal dress outfit of her own customization, intended to project the regal image of a warrior princess of space. Black and gold, with a sleeveless formal top with wide shoulderpads and a long cape, plus the three-pronged circlet she is entitled to wear as a General of the UJCIDF (although like the helmets, most of the brass forego them). It's difficult being her sometimes. This wedding is too loud and Islamic. Her feet hurt in these spiky-heeled boots. She wishes she was back on her flagship playing Secret Garden V instead of watching that insufferable buffoon Rashad peacock around speaking Arabic with a bunch of stodgy old Martians who keep looking at her like a jezebel.

However, it isn't without its upsides. She's managed to corner one of the bride's cute cousins, and is rather forcefully flirting with her. On the whole, things could be a lot worse. At least this time, Roarke Starwind is safely far away in the belt with no reason to show up and ruin everything for her the way he seems to take a vindictive glee in doing. "You really don't have a boyfriend? I'm quite surprised, surely a charming young thing like you has someone she likes..." The General keeps her smile winsome as she leans across the table towards this girl, who she has finally, finally managed to distract from the subject of that damned orphanage she runs.

"Well, there was this one boy Fa employed as a bodyguard." The young woman sighs sadly, "He had such...such fluffy hair and was so kind and serious. Cousin Fa is a very assertive sort of woman, I think she was trying to push us together."

"Was?" Hermione forces herself to look the slightest bit interested, silently praying this boy died a tragic death and left behind a grieving, emotionally vulnerable girl for her to comfort.

The Martian girl's shoulders droop, "He was taken by pirates while defending my cousin. They did not give him back, so I think he must be dead."

Far away, Mohammed suddenly sneezes, earning himself a chipper "Bless you!" from Clemmy over the comms.

General Fairchild nods sadly, reaching across the table to squeeze her hand, "Yes, I'm afraid it must be so. You must be dreadfully lonely."

The girl smiles sadly, "It is not so bad, Cousin Fa is returned to us, and I have the children to take care of. Although I know few men of my own age, so it is rather lonely."

"You don't need men to stop being lonely, you know? There are ways girls can comfort each other, when they've been left alone. Special ways. Secret ways." The General leans closer, closer, her voice becoming more hushed and intimate.

The girl blinks, "Really? You mean like...playing some sort of games?"

"Yes, a very, very special game. I can tell you all about it. First, we'll..." Fairchild's voice trails off as she notices that the girl isn't paying attention anymore, but rather staring at the sky. In fact, quite a few people are.

One of the guards is shaking his PC, "Damned sandstorms, the sensor towers are out again. Second time this week, I swear it's a waste of time and money keeping those old things up..." And then he looks up too, and his jaw drops open.

An area as large as a football field has been cleared for the wedding itself. Outdoors, under the open sky of Mars, where the union can be blessed by the winds themselves. The grass is soft and manicured, flowers forming banks of color amidst the ubiquitous green of the sward and the white of the long pavilions set up for the guests. Although General Fairchild didn't really care to notice, the bride and groom have already proceeded up the aisle where the crimson carpet has been laid out, to where a venerable cleric is giving a sermon in Arabic. Rashad is dressed in his finest blacks and reds, with a dueling saber by his side, while Fatima is resplendent in gold and white, her head covered and her face obscured by a veil.

All of that empty space is practically the ideal landing pad.

The first thing General Fairchild sees is a huge, black pancake-shape with two huge legs falling from the heavens. The girl screams and runs away, but she barely notices. She recognizes that mech, but it was supposed to have been destroyed and the parts stolen.

The crash rips some of the nearby tents off their moorings, the powerful clawed feet of the Tarrasque sending a shockwave through the soft turf. One of the General's bodyguards takes a rather nasty knock diving between her and a whipping tent stake that would have hit her right between the eyes, but she doesn't have time to care about that.

Because there's something standing on top of the Tarrasque. A profile she recognizes.

As for you, YOU feel the impact of landing rattle its way through your bones from your toes to the crown of your skull, but it doesn't hurt. No, the gravity landing feels serious. It feels weighty. It feels right.

You're unaware of the pink-haired woman staring in rage and hate at you, you don't hear her shrieking into the PC attachment on her crown for backup. The dozen or so Scimitars and tanks idling at a safe distance from the wedding in case of raiders aren't sure what to do either. Your backups land behind you on either side, Red Siren posing gracefully as Basil and Oda level their autocannons in preparation for battle.

You activate your intercomm, and boom out over the speakers, "HEL-LO NEW MEDINA!"

Pale, frightened faces stare up at you.

"HOPE I MADE IT IN TIME. I EVEN BROUGHT A PRESENT." You stomp the Kaiser's ass-kicking armored foot against the Tarrasque.

Apparently Rashad managed to get a loudspeaker of his own, because you hear him shouting at you, "Imprudent son of a camel and a pig! What? Do you want MORE money!? Are you stupid? Suicidal?"

It's kind of odd, you expected Fatima would be the one yelling at you.

>>

A thing to use depending on how he responds; any mention of her belonging to him OR her inheritance requires them to be married. Until the knot is tied it all belongs to her. "Maybe a little. I certainly wouldn't say no to more money...but feeding a wolf won't stop it from biting your hand. It's funny, you never once tried to haggle, but you didn't show a lick of regard for Fatima's well-being, you didn't even ask the usual questions a husband-to-be would ask after his betrothed was taken by me. It's rather odd how her father died within days of her return and immediately before the wedding, easily recouping all of your losses." You point down at him, "I brought her mech back to her, and I'm taking her with me."

"Over my dead body!" Rashad roars.

You can't help smirking and crossing the Kaiser's shielded arms at him, "Splendid, that can be arranged. Mind handing that squawker over to her? I want to hear from her herself."

It really is odd that she hasn't grabbed the loudspeaker to yell at you.

"Kill me, and you will be the most wanted criminal on Mars!" He threatens.

"If you want to arrest me, get in line. The cannons on those Scimitars can't even scratch the Kaiser and those tanks were made to be crushed. Don't try to throw your weight around like you think I'm some smalltime pissant when you're not even in a mech." You manage to sound bored.

"You'll never make it off Mars alive! I will BOIL your skin off!" Rashad bellows.

"If you're feeling that strongly about it, draw your sword." You shrug the Kaiser's shoulders, "Face me man-to-man. The winner gets Fatima, if she agrees."

"She is in no position to agree or disagree! I am in control here, why should I engage in this ridiculous farce!?" His face is turning red, you can see it with your ASP's telescoping visual sensors from here. Fatima is just...standing there, leaning against the altar a little, her face completely covered by the veil. You see a glimmer of something metallic behind it, above her forehead.

"I could just step on you and carry her off. Enough stalling. What's your decision?" You flex the Kaiser's fingers, "I've been wanting to punch your ugly face ever since I first saw it."

"Infidel dog, it will be a JOY to kill you!" He snarls, drawing his weapon. The light gleams dully off of it, it's a bit more ceremonial than Oda's razor-sharp and completely functional blade but still perfectly capable of shearing off an arm or leg.

You grin, press a few buttons on your speakers, pop the hatch, and ride the liftwire down. As you do, the music starts to play...a jaunty beat by a British band making fun of the Islamists of their own day.

As you step down from the wire, tugging your gloves on, Rashad rushes at you.

'Now the king told the boogie men
You have to let that raga drop
The oil down the desert way
Has been shakin' to the top
The Sheikh he drove his cadillac
He went a-cruisin' down the ville
The muezzin was a'standing
On the ra-di-a-tor grille!' The Clash jams, and you're jamming with it.

Nope. Stun rolls work like this. You have a number, set by your Body. For you and Rashad, that number is 7. You need to get that number or less to beat a Stun roll, which is imposed by things like disarms or a shock (for your gloves, they impose a -2 penalty to resist shock, which is why he failed on a 7...his number against it was effectively 5). Stun is the one time where you DON'T want a 10.

"Allahu akbar!" He slashes at your head, a wide, fast sweep. He's nowhere near as fast as Clemmy, though, and you duck it easily even as he spins his body around and recovers into an upward slash. You smack it away with your gauntleted hands, and launch a flurry of blows at his face and chest. Three of them he manages to step back from, using his superior reach with the sword to control the distance...but that makes him complacent. He barely is able to react as you step in and backhand the inside of his wrist.

There's a sharp, electric sound and his back jerks like a fish hauled onto dry land. His fingers loosen on the sword, which you grab and toss to the side.

'The sharif don't like it!' The Sharif does not like it one little bit. He's bit his lip in rage and pain and is staring at you with eyes wide and wild with hate.

Something clicks as you catch, again, out of the corner of your eye, the gleam of metal on Fatima's forehead. You remember where you've seen it before.

No wonder her face was covered, he wouldn't want anyone seeing her blank expression.

That son of a bitch is using Galbadie's headbands, the ones he was using to control his bridge crew.

'By order of the Prophet...'

Some part of you, the emotional, reckless part, dims out from sheer overload of rage. You feel as cool and calm as a beast on the hunt. He throws his arms up in front of his face to stop your first punch, but it sends him staggering backwards.

'We ban that boogie sound...'

You step forward. Your fist hits him in the stomach with the force of a charging bull, bending him nearly in half around it. He gasps and vomit sprays from his lips, but he throws his arms down and catches your wrist on the follow up blow.

'Degenerate the faithful...'

So you haul your caught arm to the side, step in...and with a perfect uppercut you hit the underside of his chin so hard he rises up onto his toes with a broken tooth arcing from his mouth.

'With that crazy casbah sound!'

He hits the ground like a sack of flour.

'But the bedouin, they brought out the electric camel drum. The local guitar picker got his guitar picking thumb.'

You pull the veil off Fatima's face. She stares blankly at you. You shake her, but she doesn't glare and shove you away. It's as if you woke up one morning and the sun was gone.

'As soon as the sharif had cleared the square, they began to wail...'

You don't need a loudspeaker, "I guess he's down for the count...but we've still got business to settle." You raise your voice, "You all want to know why she's not saying anything? It's this. The Green Skulls used them to control the women they took, it's some kind of modified HMIS."

It's mainly because of our Shock gloves, which, now that I look the rules of Human-scale Shock up, are hilarious, since the strongest guy we could possibly face still has only a 60% chance of not getting instantly knocked out by our shit.

Rashad forces himself up onto one elbow, gritting a mouth full of blood and broken teeth, "You have no proof! You are a filthy, lying pirate with no honor!"

So you kick him. It's not a very mature thing to do, but you kick him so hard it sends him sprawling several feet away, clutching his belly and retching. Calmly, you continue, "I've got ship's logs from the Battle of Auditorium. That sick fuck boasted about his so-called dolls at length." You feel your muscles shaking. The desire to kill him right here, right now, to stomp on his skull until it's a flattened mass of bone shards and brain matter, is rising like a bloody tide in your head.

"Lying...pirate...scum...someone save me! Kill him! A million credits to whoever kills him!"

Many of the guests are armed, mostly bodyguards, but at your words and as they get a closer look at Fatima the muzzles of their weapons lower.

...and then the crowd parts for a severe-looking woman with pink hair and what you consider a slightly overdramatic outfit.

You don't understand. All the attention and focus she's committed to the Kaiser would instead be committed to the Flowerhorn and Betta.

Clemmy's swords would be Energy Pools containing miniaturized Corvette-class EMWs that bypass 40 SP worth of armor.

Sam would have absolutely impenetrable Cloaking, complete with high-value EWS and Fire Control to obliterate targets at range without even being seen.

"That's absolutely incorrect, Commodore." She smiles. It's not a kind smile.

He stares at her in shock, "...What?"

"He does, in fact, have evidence. Backed up by the logs of our very own Jaburo, in fact," She tsks, crossing her arms, "Your father fought alongside Vladimir Galbadie during the Purging of Mars, did he not? Some of the things he was alleged to have done were...quite dishonorable, I believe."

"LYING HARPY, WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?" His voice dies in agonized coughing as you stomp on his ribs.

"In fact, that is most probably why the Caliph himself has chosen not to attend your nuptials. How sad." Her eyes gleam. "He must have shared that information, or perhaps they worked on these headbands together. Your mother was, I believe, something of a quiet woman? And she died young? What a pity."

"MY MOTHER WAS KICKED IN THE HEAD BY HER HORSE!" Rashad bellows, but there's a dissatisfied murmur going through the crowd. You take the opportunity to scoop Fatima up in your arms.

"This explains so much, doesn't it? All this time, we thought it was a leak on our end that led the Green Skulls to Suleiman 1...but it was you, wasn't it?" You definitely recognize this woman, she's General Fairchild. The fact that she's apparently helping you, and looks so smug about it, is...disconcerting.

"What are you talking about!?" Terror has replaced anger in Rashad's voice, terror and confusion.

"Furthermore, when you invited me to dinner, it was a few nights after Sheikh Ahmad's unfortunate death, was it not? He...leaned against a balcony railing and it broke, correct? Funny, I was out on that balcony trying to ignore your boorish conversation, and I didn't see any signs of a broken railing. I mean, perhaps you had it fixed, but then there would be workmen who remembered doing it, no? It would have to be a most professional job to escape my eye." She grins, showing teeth, "With one of those headbands on, Lady Fatima might have watched it all, helpless."

And so it's happening. Rashad likely served two purposes for Fairchild; a nice connection to the holy fleet of Mars, and as a fall guy for shady shit. Don't worry, though, I'm sure a forensic expert can take a look and tell us whether that railing EVER was broken. Or we can ask your almost-wife. Fatima? Lady Ahmad? Do you have anything to say? No? Do you want me to rescue you from the scruffy, menacing pirate? Really, you don't? How disappointing." You've seen Domon smile more kindly towards a nice venison steak, "That's one messy Internal Affairs investigation cleared up. Even if there was nothing else, that thing on that girl's head is a violation of more interplanetary laws than I can shake a stick at.

"You bitch! I'll kill you too! I'll destroy you! I'll...if I go down, you..." His voice trails off as he realizes something.

"...Have done absolutely nothing wrong and can prove it, my aide is always with me and I'm sure there are multiple witnesses to each of our meetings. I'm as disappointed as everyone else is, Commodore Abujamal, your talent and energy made me think you were the right person for the UJCIDF to deal with and I confess I did argue on your behalf to those who doubted you. I may be guilty of trusting you a little too much, and sharing some SOUL technology with the Holy Militia, but all of that is entirely aboveboard and approved by the Planetary Chairman." She sighs happily, "I might get a medal for solving this. My thanks, Starwind. It would be ungracious of me to deny you your...prize at this juncture, and hopefully it will make a certain woman you've made a captive realize what kind of man you are. "Oh good." She smiles at you, which makes you very, very uncomfortable. "Music is just wonderful for bringing people together and making women go a little wild. It's so much fun. Do have fun, I might even attend personally...although if anything happens to my favorite niece I will be very, very angry. It would be a shame if you did something like that just as there's talk circulating among certain members of the UJCIDF upper crust that a certain Roarke Starwind could be a useful ally in the Belt, wouldn't it? Oh, and you should consider that offer of joining SOUL. Personally, I think you're an awful fit for it, but you've proven to have a bit more cunning than expected and you're certainly opportunistic enough to realize it would profit you in the long run." There's a hard edge to her words, deeply buried beneath layers of sugary sweetness. "Guards, seize the ex-Commodore, if we don't get him to a medical facility soon he might very well die of internal injuries."

"No! No! Unhand me! You cannot do this, you bitch! I will kill you, I will kill you all!" Rashad struggles as a pair of burly men in UJCIDF uniforms grab him and haul him to his feet, dragging him towards a groundcar.

The Martians watch in stoic silence. A young girl with dark hair and pretty blue eyes clasps her hands together, "At least Starwind is cuter than Rashad, I'm sure he and Cousin Fa will be happy together!"

Fairchild shoots a betrayed, hurt glance at her, then growls, "I sincerely doubt it. Everyone go home, this damnable wedding is over with. Starwind, keep your nose clean." She stalks away towards the groundcar like an offended tomcat.

You did just win a duel against an armed man using only your fists. Most people don't get that Karen's gauntlets are weapons in their own right. You also have three Heavy Striker mechs, which are viewed as pretty big in this setting (the UJCIDF considers Warmouths and Morgan IIs as heavy mecha in the modern day) hovering around where the Scimitars and tanks are parked, pointing an awful lot of firepower at them. That's the reputation of Admiral Roarke Starwind and his scary number of victories, plus Red Siren, plus Oda Yoritomo. A bounty is worthless unless you're alive to collect on it later, and seeing Fatima sit through that without scolding anyone convinced anyone who knew her that something is very wrong with her right now.
>>
>>48316934
May rashad eat a whole pig before haman kills his ass.

A sudden appearance, a clash for a duel, said duel being over in moments, and the sudden realization that the groom did some evil shit likely stayed their hands. Wednesday!

Also, I just realized that I never actually statted the Scimitar and Tulwar completely. I'm working on that literally right now.

They're actually not bad mecha. They're both blazingly fast, and have twin-linked weapons. Not a threat to anything big and certainly not a threat to the Kaiser, but a Harpy pilot would have good reason to shit himself if he was being chased by one, since it's faster than a Harpy with more firepower.
>>
>>48317007

Fuckin' Avalon. Their idiocy grates my nerves, but their mech design seems right up my damn alley.
>>
>>48317053

It's hard to answer that without spoilers. So far you have absolutely assfucked the way Fairchild wanted things to be at this point. Parts of it are salvageable, but permanently clearing pirates out of the belt through a Green Skulls takeover that makes everyone hate pirates and cheer the UJCIDF for suddenly wiping the fuckers out is becoming more and more of a distant dream. Other plots, however, exist, from multiple sources, and for some of them it's now a very personal grudge against you and you in particular.
>>

>inflicting her song upon Moe again without Regina to protect him

How cruel! Also, a one-seater mech can carry one pilot and one additional passenger on their lap. That's why Samantha, with Duncan and Athena onboard, couldn't fight back against the enemies chasing her on Suleiman, her options were to either be terribly squished or to carry one of them in her mech's cupped hands.

Extremely Roman among the upper classes, with very strong hints of Anglosphere. Red, white, and blue might even be the primary colors of their flag.

You know how fringe libertarians are always threatening to go make their own society with blackjack and hookers and no income tax? Well, they did it.

Asteroid mining is a tremendously, unbelievably profitable industry. In the early days of space colonization, there really was no central authority to stop a cabal of the new hyperwealthy class that built the Jovian colonies in the first place from declaring that Atlas had shrugged and they were done being a fief of Earth. So they made their own nation, with blackjack, hookers, no income tax, and lots of genemodding.

Predictably, it went very, very, very wrong. The surviving ideologues, as ideologues are wont to do, either retired or were purged and Jupiter became considerably more moderate once the most aggressive mutants were dead and federal control of the Jovian Colonies was firmly established. Hence the U in UJCIDF, having a united military was at one time a very big political deal. Coincidentally, the Planetary Chairman who restored order and is generally credited with making Jupiter the major power it has been ever since was a massive Romeaboo and worshipped the Roman gods, riding a wave of neopaganism to establish the worship of Jove and the Olympian pantheon as the most popular faith on Jupiter.

As for their government, it's a little funny because you have a lot of Roman titles for the bureaucracy and then the highest rank is Planetary Chairman. There is a senate, a Consul for the two primary settlements of Io and Europa, and the Planetary Chairman above that.

Why not Ganymede and Callisto, you ask? Ganymede lacks Europa's subsurface ocean, and Callisto just doesn't have some of the mineral resources and geothermal energy plants that make Io competitive. People still live in colonies around them, for various reasons, but it's quiet and not politically powerful. Ganymede is best known for its artists' communities.

Change something I'd done, or convince the players to do/not to do something? Hmm...that's a tough one. A lot of the best stuff in this quest comes from me throwing out carefully written notes and just winging it. It's always hard to say what would have been different, because so many other things would have changed as a result of major decisions. For example, Clemmy. Clemmy's personality has been quite consistent throughout this, but she's unquestionably changed for the better due to Roarke. She started out as "that one character who aims for the cockpit every time".

If you asked me some time ago, I would have said that making this setting interstellar instead of interplanetary was a mistake, because I listened to the advice of someone who turned out to basically have shit taste in everything and making the setting interstellar was one of his recommendations. However, now I actually like Avalon despite not having nearly enough pictures of mecha-type characters in medieval-futuristic garb.

The most notable thing is that I wouldn't have described Karen as short if I did it all over again because it led to people thinking of her as a kid, but things turned out alright.

I'm not surprised if the turnout on the concert becomes a war between Red Siren fans and Roarke fans. Even though it's not even our concert. Oh uhh, Lysa might have a few supporters... I mistakenly assumed he liked giant robots very early on in the design process, let him weigh in, realized my mistake, and stopped caring about his opinions.

I instinctively like it, but...the primary color for Mars absolutely must be red because it's Mars, and if Jupiter is red-primary too they'll get confusing. There's no urgency, plenty of time to do this.

Earth probably has a mix of blue and green, given the colors of its surface. Either that or some multiracial bullshit rainbow of colors for political reasons.

>Earth, the BLUE planet, not being blue
>Jupiter, the COLD AF planet, not being white
>Uranus, not being listed as brown.

Tried redoing the Zeon flag with a red-white-blue color scheme. Personally I think it looks awful

Not too bad anon, maybe add some stuff to the quadrants with each one focusing on one moon

Dude. Do you even know what Saturn is?

I meant inhabited the way Jupiter is inhabited; surrounded by habitats and stations

Dude you can just set "use legacy captcha" in options and then it's the good old fast number on a sign.
