Shinobi Quest #22

This quest takes place within the lands of the Five Great Shinobi Nations (aka Narutoverse) starting roughly around the beginning of the original series. The world of this quest remains similar to the original, with slight but notable differences in certain areas, based upon the passage of time from a single slightly altered event.

(It’s a goddamn Naruto Quest, you bastards. Have fun, participate, and write in when you feel inclined. Most of the outcomes of this quest will be determined by you, the players. Critiques and questions are always welcome, as my knowledge of the weeby shit is not all encompassing.)

Last thread, Tsuki Norihime met her interim instructor and underwent some extensive training. Her sensei should be returning soon, and both her teammates and herself are waiting….

Two months. For two months, you and your teammates had worked hard, doing your best to improve yourselves- the chunin exams were imminent. In a little over a month, it would be time to begin the examinations. You had seen little of your potential competition from Konoha- many of them had been out on some mission or another- and while your team and been upkeeping their fair share of D-ranked missions in Itachi-sensei’s absence, you know many of your fellow Genin teams had progressed to undertaking regular C-ranked missions. While you HAD undertaken a single joint mission with Team Guy, it hardly seemed to count with two Jonin present.

You only hope you have the chance to prove yourselves in the upcoming weeks- you will not tolerate falling behind!

------------------------------

It’s afternoon when Itachi-sensei comes calling; you know he probably had to report to the Fourth, but really, must he keep a lady such as yourself waiting? He must know better than that, surely.

Your outfit is pristine- your hair, perfect. It would simply not do to not look your best to meet him after all this time.

You sneak down into the foyer- there he is, waiting. How should you greet him?

1. Casually. No need for fanfare or ceremony.
2. Respectfully. Only appropriate for your sensei.
3. With affection. You missed him!
4. With a bit of attitude. He kept you waiting! He deserves it.

Oh hey! First time catching the thread! Awesome!
Alright so this has been bugging me for a while, people talk about summons, but keep saying tsuki needs to find a scroll. From what I remember, that isn't COMPLETELY true, just the normal way, there's a more dangerous method where you perform the summoning contract without a scroll, and get reverse-summoned to the home of the summon family most suited to you, and depending on how they test you and what they think of you, they give you a scroll allowing you to summon a number of their family
Jiraiya did this, and wound up at mount myoboku, where he gained the "Noble" toad contract, allowing him to summon any of the toads, he then came back, told orochimaru and tsunade, and they did the same thing
Did nobody else mention this or did I just skip over it while reading the archives?

“Itachi-sensei! I’m glad you’re back!” you say from the top of the stairs, announcing your presence. You walk down the stairs slowly, making sure to keep composed.

You catch his eyes, and he smiles.

“Tsuki. Sorry I kept you waiting- both Jiraiya and I spent longer than either of us thought informing the Fourth of every minutiae of our trip.”

Jiraiya. Looks like you’ll be skipping the bathhouse this week…

“Nonsense, sensei! I’m just happy you’ve returned safely.” you respond, stepping off the stairs onto the main floor. You cast your gaze quickly around the room- Danzo is in the basement, as he always is when people visit. Maru announced Itachi’s visit, but is nowhere to be seen, and Father is, as always, in his study.

“You shouldn’t worry so much, Tsuki. I don’t want you to be worrying about me- otherwise, I’m not doing my job as your sensei!” he chuckles.

Idiot.

“Don’t tell a lady she can’t worry, Mr. Uchiha. That will only make her worry more.” you pout.

He just laughs, although his posture is conciliatory.

“I trust your training under Anko went well?” he finally asks.

It…

1. Went well. (Withhold that you didn’t spend all that much time with her)
2. Went well, even if you weren’t with her all that much.
3. Was somewhat boring without his instruction.

“Training went well enough….. Although, I didn’t really spend all that much time with Anko, I admit. The time I did spend with her was educational, though. You made a good choice.” you answer.

“I never expected you to spend the whole eight weeks with her, but I’m glad my choice has your approval!” he laughs. “How did the others take it?”
“Well, I never really saw Nori, to be honest. We met up for missions, of course, but she had her own training regimen that she was following. Hinata seemed to take to her quickly, though. Even learned how to summon snakes!” you answer.

“I figured one of you three might take her up on the summoning contract. I thought it would be you, though, so I suppose your sensei was wrong this time.” he chuckles.

“I didn’t turn her down outright, but I don’t like to limit my choices, sensei. Although it’s nice to hear you’re thinking about me…” you say, not trying particularly hard to hide your smug grin.

From somewhere in the house, you hear a cough.

“By the way, Tsuki, I’ll tell you since I’m here. Nori already knows, since she was with her Father, but I’ve taken a mission for us.” Itachi says, getting back to business.

“...a mission? Already? I’m not complaining, but shouldn’t you rest up a bit?” you say with concern.

“I’ll be just fine, Tsuki. Besides…. I want to see how much you’ve grown.” he says with a confident smile.

Feh, this idiot. He knows how to press your buttons, all right…

“Fine, fine. What’s the rank of this mission? C again?” you inquire.

“B-rank. We’ll be heading to the Land of Wind- make sure to pack some comfy clothes! Oh, and I hope you don’t mind sand.” he says somewhat casually.

“.....B-rank? Are you sure?”

You’re actually a little worried….

“We’ll be fine. Remember what I said? Don’t worry. Now, I need to get going and tell Hinata before the night is up. Do us all a favor and pack light- we won’t have Guy and Lee to carry our things, this time.” he says, before bidding you good night.

You see him out, but you’re still a bit in shock- a B-rank mission? I guess you’ll get to prove yourself after all……

First thing’s first- you go hunt down Danzo.

He’s in his room… although you could’ve swore it was him who coughed…

You quickly brief him on your new mission and destination.

“The Land of Wind… hmm. Pack light. Don’t wear dark clothing, and make sure you have water on hand. Wear some goggles, if you have them. The sand will get into almost anything if you let it. As for the shinobi of Sunagakure… avoid them if possible. The are a bitter and untrustworthy lot, even if the Fourth has sent them diplomatic overtures.” he advises, drinking deeply of his nightly tea.

Nodding, you bid Danzo goodnight, and head upstairs to talk to Father.

You find him hard at work, as usual, though he is quick to acknowledge your presence.

“Heading out again, my dear? Be safe! Those deserts are sweltering, and exhaustion is as big as a danger as anything else. I’ll have Maru prepare you some dried foods to keep your spirits up! As for the people of that country…. I haven’t had much dealing with them. The sand gets into the machinery, rendering it useless- as such they aren’t frequent customers. Let me know if you find anything interesting!” Father exclaims with his usual enthusiasm.

With that out of the way, you have some things to consider.

Do you have something wish to ask either of these men? (On Topic)

>>
>>48216937
I don't like it because we're already doing some other things and it's a specialisation demanding a lot of investment but I like that their mechanisms are (relatively) simple but work with the chackra strings.
If we want to achieve fixed results in some gizmos we could use chakra conducting metal to emulate chakra strings with a lesser liberty on control but requiring less concentration.
Essentially, fuck sevromotors, just telekinesic that shit with chakra without thinking too much about how since you just dump chackra into the plug of the gadget.

Also: We are a fucking GENIUS. Sasori ain't got shit on our mechanisms. If we go puppet route, that shit is going to turn into a remote-control steampunk golem pretty fast.
>>
>>48217125
They're also incredibly specialized on top of being difficult to learn.

There's no min maxing here famalam, you either go all in on puppets or suck shit at them.

Also the only justification people had for them was "They're different" which is 10000 times worse then someone saying special snowflake.

I'm totally down for this, but actually when we become ROOT Tsuki in quest.

We are not root Tsuki right now in the quest.

Let's address the story at hand, stick to the present goals, and train what we need to master at the moment. IC we're like 11, we can learn puppetry later and Wargle will most likely present the opportunity some threads down the line.
>>
>>48217501
Agreed. At BARE MINIMUM we should hold off till after the chunin exams, and in the mean time focus on git gud'ing what we already have practice in. MAYBE try the reverse-summons thing that one anon mentioned earlier.

Speaking of which, what summons do you guys think would fit tsuki most? Not gonna lie, hoping we get kickass warrior rabbits.
>>
>>48217475
1. Can be fixed in the same amount of time, or quicker as learning puppets.

2. We can invent non gimmicky useful weaponry instead of the biggest gimmick in the narutoverse.

3.No they fucking don't, the only ones with "variety" are corpse puppets that are made and used exclusively by one person.

Also literally the absurd amount of ninjutsu and genjutsu is vetter for variety.

You have no ground to stand puppetfag, go back to your hole

1. Same goes for other techniques, literally listed in the genius perk.

2. Utterly pointless, if you the puppeteer are fucking compromised or in close quarters your puppet is useless.

3. They factually cannot be unless you're Sasori.

From the current choices of rabbits, Seiryu, Genbu, Byakko, Suzaku or the snakes, I'd prefer anything but snakes.

Snakes aren't bad. I just don't find them as interesting as the others.

Plus I really like Suzaku, since the five colors of the Fenghuang match Confucious' 5 Virtues. And those describe Tsuki alright.

1: A motherfucking pheonix clan

FINAL SCORE: 93!

You have a couple ideas, although some of them would requires more time than you have. The sealed bodysuits have promise, but would require some specialized materials that you don’t have immediate access to.

These masks, though…

Non-reflective tinted glass lenses, finely grated mouthpiece, optional rebreather… this can be done. Besides, ANBU uses masks- Danzo should have some spares laying around, right? They may be ROOT masks, but that makes little difference to you.

You and father work late into the night, with Danzo and him leaving at one point to head to the manufactory to gather additional pieces.

But, you have them. These should definitely help with the mission!

Acquired 4 [All-Terrain Shinobi Facemasks]!

Afterwards you head to bed- you’ll pack in the morning. Itachi-sensei didn’t give a specific time, so you assume he’ll come calling when the time arrives….
>>
>>48217697
She, Suzaku is either a girl or very effeminate guy in its usual depictions.

Genbu has a snake tail, which is rad as fuck.

>>
Now the main question of course is, which is more fitting?

Byakko the white tiger, associated with lightning
or
Suzaku the golden pheonix, associated with fire.

Those two fit better then the dragon (water) or the tortoise (earth)

>>48217707
The four guardian beasts of the cardinal directions.

>>48217725
WELP! We look badass now.
>>
>>48217707

>>
>>48217415
Well one because it doesn't need to be the sole range weapon at one time. If we also work on our hand-signs we can use offensive jutsu in one hand while we control puppets in the other. We can use the full power of our collective creativity with the puppets, like for example making them with some sort of mirror materiel to make them hard to detect and reflect our chakra like light. We also don't need to be that good at kenjutsu to use Raiga, it's ability to give us control over lightning seems like it would be a better thing at long distance anyways. And we have stellar release to shore up our deficits in speed and strength, especially if we get better with that teqnique. Ok I'm done arguing the point now.
>>
>>48217707
>Can you translate that for the non-weebs?

Azure Dragon, Black Turtle, White Tiger, Vermilion Phoenix.
>>
>>48217597

I mean, on the one hand, byakko and suzaku match our elemental affinity, whereas genbu is earth, and doesnt.

On the other hand, genbu ALSO represents metal, which fits our norihime background well.

However you must consider: Would any other summon that comes with genbu be worth anything? Tortoises are kinda slow AF, I think tigers and pheonix's might be better combat partners.

You sleep in a little, to counter staying up as late as you did last night….

But it doesn’t seem to matter- even when waking up at four hours after dawn, Itachi hasn’t arrived. You don’t mind, though, as it gives you plenty of time to pack as instructed. You pack as light as you can, avoiding too many amenities.

Loose, lightly colored clothing. Not exactly your style, but better to be comfortable in the heat. The sand would ruin your nicer clothes, anyway.

As promised, Father had Maru prepare some travel food- and as usual, she made far too much. Thankfully, you can dole it out to the rest of the team- you doubt Nori thought that far ahead, and Itachi-sensei probably can’t cook.

As the afternoon arrives, it brings the rest of your team to your residence. It occurs to you, somewhat at the last second, that this is the first time either Nori or Hinata has seen the estate- although time really hasn’t permitted it.

“Yooooo! Princess! Nice digs! The Hokage residence has nothing on your place!” a voice echos in from the foyer.

Could she be any less couth? That girl…

You bring your bags with you, meeting your team. Nori seems to be everywhere at once, investigating everything in sight.

“Nori, please don’t break anything. We’re guests….” Hinata chatizes Nori.

You can’t help but laugh a little at them both. Where before you’d be annoyed, their antics have definitely grown on you…

As you gather, Itachi addresses you.

“Ladies, we’re heading into potentially hostile territory. Our mission is two-fold- first we carry an invitation. If we can deliver it, wonderful. If not, it does not affect the success of our mission. Think of it as a side-objective.” Itachi explains

“A set of ruins as been discovered within the vast wastes of the Land of Wind. Various archeological societies are vying to discover it’s secrets- and the Capital is no different. Apparently, Suna shinobi flat out refuse any missions regarding the ruins- all the more for us, then. Our proprietor is to meet us on the border of the Land of Rivers and the Land of Wind. We set out now, as the trip will take most of the day. We’ll reach the border by morning, and the deserts by early evening. I hope to avoid too much travel in the direct sunlight….”

It is at this point, you produce the masks. You explain their function, and show everyone how they work.

“Tsuki-hime, this is amazing! When did you make this?” Hinata asks.

“Last night. Just another wonder brought to you by the Norihime Corporation! Ohohohohoho!~” you exclaim with pride.

“These will be a great boon, Tsuki. Thanks for thinking ahead!” Itachi-sensei praises you.

“Princess, this makes me look cool, right?” Nori says, donning the mask.

You’re glad they appreciate your hard work- you hope to make this as painless as possible.

“Now, it’s time we set out. The Land of Wind has many unique dangers besides the terrain, so we’ll be going over them on the trip. This is a true B-rank mission, so we must remain vigilant of all potential dangers. Understand?” Itachi dictates.

“Yes, Sensei!” the three of you respond.
>>
>>48218383
YES, YEESS! Technology will outpace the shinobi! Armor and weapons that can be mass produced and actually matter in high-level ninja combat!

We need to get a hold of some chakra armor. If only we had a power source for some weaponry. Hmm, wait a minute, large amounts of energy, accessable everywhere, passively gathered and stored for useage... Do you think natural energy could power a laser gun? If so, Orochimaru has a very convienient method of gaining as much as you want on demand.

The trip through the Land of Rivers is uneventful- just as you remember it. Barring the bad memories the place invokes, it seems free of any crime or banditry. Or maybe, they know you were coming? Hard to say.

Itachi-sensei rattles off the dangers of the Land of Wind:

First, the environment: Blistering days, Freezing nights. Wicked sandstorms that can tear the flesh and blind the eyes. The sand beneath your feet can suck you beneath it, never to be seen again.

Then, the flora. He lists off several varieties of poisonous plants native to the region- some of the nastier ones paralyze their victims instead of killing them outright.

Finally, the fauna- scorpions, snakes, birds of prey. Sandworms… wait.

“Sandworms? What is a sandworm?” you ask, breaking yourself out of the daze you were in.

“Obviously it’s a worm that likes the sand, princess. Pay attention!” Nori scolds. Seems she was actually interested in these mundane dangers.

“I wonder what kind of snakes populate the desert? It’d certain be nice to know…” Hinata muses, looking out the window of the carriage you four are taking to the border.

“A sandworm, Tsuki, is a giant tunneling worm that may or may not inhabit the deserts of the Land of Wind. Some call them superstition, but the locals maintain they exist, and prey on hapless travellers.” Itachi explains.

Right, so some local myth. He certainly had you going for a while there….

“So sensei, this is a B-rank mission.” you say, mainly making conversation to keep yourself awake. It was getting dark, but you needed to stay awake for a while longer.

“Yes, it is.” he responds. “Any mission within another Shinobi nation will automatically be classified as such, and the dangers present within the Land of Wind certainly don’t hurt. We also have reason to believe other Shinobi may be present- not necessarily in a antagonistic sense, but you can never be too careful. These ruins are somewhat of a hot commodity.” he explains.

“Yes, and what about these ruins? What do we know?” you inquire further.
“We personally don’t know very much- the Capital was certainly mum on the subject, through I expect our patron will explain it further if you’re curious. The environment there preserves things from our ancient history- there’s no telling what knowledge they’ve uncovered.” Itachi responds.

“Any… treasure? Artifacts?” you say with a hopeful voice.

Itachi laughs. “Looking to expand your souvenir collection? Nori says you take one home after every mission.”

You grumble.

“I’m sure there are things there of great historical significance, although again, the Capital was silent on such a thing- not part of our agreement, no doubt. The historians won’t take kindly to a shinobi breaking valuable things, I’d wager.” he says, voice still full of laughter.

Eventually, you dose off. Itachi seems just fine- although you do hope he gets some sleep.

---------------

You wake to the early morning sun and a stopped cart. Itachi-sensei isn’t here- he seems to be talking to someone outside. This is probably the border, then.

As the others wake, you hop out of the carriage, and put on your pack containing your provisions. You stretch and generally just attempt to get the blood flowing- you have a long day ahead of you.

Eventually, Itachi returns to the group.

“Alright, we’re cleared to enter. The carriageman will be leaving, so make sure you have everything. According to the guardsmen, our contact shouldn’t be too far past the border.

The four of you head past the border gate- a large wooden gate built over a natural cliffside. It looks mostly ceremonial- it isn’t exactly a defensible position.

Sure enough, not even 15 minutes past the border, you spy a man leaning against the outside of the pass, smoking a cigarette.

“Dr. Kosugi?” Itachi says, greeting the man.

“In the flesh. You must be the Shinobi from Konoha then? Excellent. Sorry to call you all the way out here, but the locals aren’t particularly helpful.” He turns from Itachi to the three of you.

“Hey there! I’m Lemeza Kosugi. Archeologist. I plan to give these ruins a thorough shakedown- and I’ll be needing your backup, if not your help. What do you say?”
He seems to be asking for your acceptance- a bit odd, since you’re already here. Dr. Kosugi is a rugged man, older than Itachi for sure, but not as old as your father. He seems an agreeable sort.

You…

1. Greet him enthusiastically.
2. Greet him professionally.
3. Give minimal greeting.

You bow slightly. “I’m Tsuki Norihime. Nice to meet you, Dr. Kosugi.” you say.

Nori and Hinata follow suit.

“Please, girls. Dr. Kosugi is my father- Lemeza is fine. Also, did you say Norihime? I’ll be twice damned.” he says, looking shocked.

He pulls out his pack of cigarettes- the box is black, with the lid bearing the white norihime crown.

At this point you aren’t even shocked.

“Who’dve thought. Well, I won’t pry into your business.” Lemeza says, turning back to Itachi.

“We should set out soon- the path through the cliffsides is a tough hike, but it’s better that we get to the desert around the late afternoon.”

You all nod in agreement, and set off.

The terrain here is starkly different- and you haven’t even reached the desert. Everything seems so rocky and bare; why do people stay here? It seems wholly unpleasant.

It’s certainly hot as well, but you are all dressed for it- this is just the beginning, anyway.

Lemeza and Itachi make small talk as the march goes on, but it’s not particularly interesting.

You realize he probably knows quite a bit about these ruins, however.

Shall you talk to Lemeza?

“So, Lemeza. I imagine you probably know everything there is to know about these ruins, right?” you ask, legitimately curious.

“Well, there’s still a lot we don’t know. Much of our early history is shrouded in myth- and the myths don’t always agree. So, we investigate as much as possible to learn what we can. The history is everywhere, if you know where to look. As for these ruins? They’re certainly ancient. Building materials match what is common in the area- meaning they were built most likely by the people who would later inhabit Sunagakure. It’s chock full of traps too, which are very well preserved.

The strangest thing about them, though, are the murals. They all involve trees. In the middle of the desert. Really makes you wonder.”

Lemeza continues pondering this, though most of his conjecture is either beyond you or just beyond your interest.

You eventually wrest the conversation back from him.

“Seems like you know of my family. My father is a person very interested in relics of the past, as well.” you say.

“Good to hear! Honestly, I’d only heard the name while working in the Capital- and these cigs are pretty good. If he’s a man after my own heart, I’d be happy to work with him if he’d fund an expedition or two.” he says, lighting up another black cigarette.

“He most definitely would. Have your team send information to the household, and I’ll see that it gets to him. You should have a visitation request shortly after, I’ll bet.” you confirm.

“Fine by me! Once we’re done here, I don’t exactly have another dig lined up, anyway. I’m sure we can bond over our shared love of history.” Lemeza agrees.

Everyone continues making small talk over the trek, which, as predicted, takes the better part of the day.

As the sun begins to dip low in the sky, the cliffside crags seem to spill away, into a great yellow ocean of sand.

“We’re making good time.” Lemeza says, surveying the surroundings from under the safety of his hat. “Once it’s starts getting a bit lower, we’ll head out. Worst thing we’ll run into is some Suna folk- the critters only come out at night, and the sandworms during the day. Mostly.

Again, with the sandworms.

“Are those even real?” you question.

“Princess here is afraid of the sandworms.” Nori chimes in.

“I believe they are. Too many things just disappear during the high sun. Granted, people may get lost and die out there, but usually, you’d find bones, or something. The locals certainly believe in them, in any rate. One more reason not to be out and about in the middle of the day."

It’s… quite hot. Hotter than it was before. You can see the air shimmering more or less all around you.

Hinata, who’s perched next to you, is looking across the sand with her Byakugan.

“See anything?” you inquire.

“Sand. Sand in hills, sand in valleys. Sometimes, the wind kicks it up.” she quips, scanning the horizon. Is Nori’s sarcasm rubbing off on her?

“Although, I’ve seen a few lizards and snakes, but only for a few seconds.” she says, lightening up almost immediately.

Lemeza and Itachi continue chatting, whilst Nori just sits, grumbling.

After a few hours, it begins to get darker. You can already feel it begin to cool; although not by that much.

At this, Lemeza announces it’s time to resume the trek.

Thankfully, after about an hour the heat returns to a tolerable level- it’s been taking all your restraint not to just drain your waterskin.

You’re also quite thankful Lemeza seems to know where he’s going, because you’re following rather blindly at this point. You’d need to rely on Hinata to navigate you back…

After a few more hours of travel, it’s gotten entirely dark- and very cold. The moon is growing in the sky, it’s pale light illuminating the entire desert. It’s actually quite beautiful….

It’s as you look on that Hinata makes an announcement.

“Party of five, coming from the west of us.” she says, Byakugan at the ready. Just how long has she had them active?

“Probably Suna folk. Most of them know me, so it shouldn’t be an issue.” Lemeza says.
You aren’t quite convinced by that- and soon enough, you hear the thundering of animals on sand.

Five people, atop large furry beasts- camels, you’d guess- stand near the group.

“Lemeza. You hired Shinobi from outside Suna?” a feminine voice asks.

“Yeah, I did. Most of the others have as well. We asked you folk first, but you refused.” Lemeza answers, rather non-chalantly.

“We warned you and the others. Those ruins aren’t to be disturbed.” the woman says.

“I don’t believe in curses, Temari. I told your father that, too. He certainly didn’t forbid us from investigating.” Lemeza responds.

“He’s letting you fools go to your death, Lemeza. We haven’t survived in this desert as long as we have by picking around in places better left alone.” she says, very matter of factly.

The woman hops off the camel- she’s surprisingly short. She rolls back her hood- to reveal a youthful face. Probably about your age.

“We won’t stop you Lemeza. But we aren’t going to save you, either.” she finishes.

He shrugs. “The Kazekage said the same thing. I’d like to believe we won’t need saving.”

This conversation seems to be going nowhere…

However, these people ARE from Suna….

“Feh, fine Lemeza. Know that if you die in there, we won’t be collecting your corpses.” the girl says, and starts walking back to her camel.

“Wait. You said the Kazekage is your father?” Itachi says, digging around in his bag.

“Yes, that is correct. Do you have some business with me?” she says, only half turned around.

“My name is Itachi Uchiha. I bring an invitation from our Hokage to your Kazekage.” he says, presenting the invitation.
“...an invitation? For what purpose?” she says, looking at the envelope without taking it.

“To… hold a joint chunin examination. To foster and renew relations between our two villages.” Itachi says.

What? That isn’t exactly what you were expecting…

This girl, Temari, starts laughing.

“That’s rich, coming from some Uchiha. Your village is slowly strangling ours. I should just rip this up right now……” she says while walking towards Itachi’s outstretched hand.

“.....but I won’t. I’ll take it to my father, and he can rip it up. Diplomatically.” she finishes, taking the note from Itachi.

“I thank you, daughter of the Kazekage.” Itachi says, bowing his head.

“It’s Temari.” she responds flatly. “Oh, and Lemeza, the ruins are to the north of here, in case you forgot. You were starting to your sense of direction.”

With that, she hops on her camel, and the five of them take off into the night.

Once the dust from their departure clears, Lemeza lights another cigarette.

“You were lost?” Hinata asks, sounding quite concerned.

“No, I wasn’t. I’ve been smoking these things non-stop for an hour, and figured if I started veering of course, she’d show up to gloat or warn me again. Your sensei here mentioned he needed to see a Suna shinobi, and they’ve been sending Temari to warn me off every time I make the return trip. Their Kazekage, Rasa, isn’t nearly as superstitious as the rest, but he acts in accordance to his village’s wishes.” Lemeza says, taking a fresh drag off of his lit cigarette.

“Pretty good there, doctor.” Nori says, patting him on the back. “Toying with a girl’s heart to further our goals? You’d fit right in at home.”

This sends Lemeza into a coughing fit, and Nori teasing him relentlessly over it.

When they calm down, the journey continues. Heading due north, it’s about another hour and half before you can see them- the ruins.

“This place have a name, doc?” Nori says, surveying the ruins encampment from atop a nearby dune.

“No, not yet. Once we figure it’s secrets out, we’ll worry about naming it. Getting a bunch of people to agree on something as esoteric as a name might as well be a pointless venture anyway.” Lemeza says, laughing at his own joke.

You can see plenty of lights burning away in the encampment below- tents dotting the sand near the entrance. Or, you should say entrances- it seems teams have cleared away as much sand as possible, exposing multiple entryways.

“Come, everyone.” Lemeza says, heading down into the camp. “We’ll eat and make camp for the night. It’s better to spend the day in the ruins- not nearly as hot. We can warm ourselves by the campfire at night.

The five of you head down into the campsite….

Gentlemen!
It is time to discuss the most SUPERIOR form of puppet!

WAR GOLEMS.

Specifically: What rolls can they take on to free up other ninja for the jobs they cannot?
>>
so techinically speaking... could we weld a bit of regular steel to chakra steel then channel stellar chakra through the chakra steel to super heat the attached regular steel?
>>
>>48221044
>>48220974
1.Sounds lame and chakra wasting inducing
2.Puppets are lame
3.We can't master four different weapons. We're already stretching it as is
4.Golems can break easily with a right hit
>>
>>48221010
Thanks for running dude.
>>
>>48221044
Any sort of guard duty? Stick a few ninja on the roof, then WAR GOLEMS.

Need to swamp an enemy in warriors? WAR GOLEMS.

Suppressing a riot? WAR GOLEMS.
>>
>>48221010
Cheers Wargle. NOT!Shai Hulud when? And if so will we find NOT!spice? And if so will it boost Tsuki's powers?
>>
>>48221068
The idea isn't to learn puppetry with a giant chunk of metal, it's to make an army of disposable soldiers that can take jobs instead of normal ninja.

Obviously there will be some jobs they can't, given their giant hunk of metal nature, but if we get into a war they'll be invaluable.
>>
>>48221098
It's outlandish and I doubt we have the technology for it. I say we should focus more on the fly machine first.
>>
>>48221121
You doubt we have the technology for steampunk but not for a giant flying steampunk fortress?

Also:
>Outlandish
Get the fuck out of here with that weak shit.
>>
>>48221093
Much debate. I try to include homages at best, as if it's entirely a rip-off character, it loses a bit of interest for me.

Lemeza is the only direct rip of a character, though I've given him a more visible personality.
>>
Thanks for running Wargle, whens the next thread do you think?

>>48221044
Before we do that we need to secure both a power supply and a method of control...could likely go for a remote operator approach, long range chakra receivers?
>>
>>48221163

Good arguments there.
>>
>>48221264

>>
Artfag here, just throwing out, I think we should bail on the bows, keep the fan as a side weapon/more personal touch (plus no one knows its a weapon). Git good with swords since we have the toys.

Puppets im on the fence, great fun to draw and design, somewhat fun to use. While I agree Tsuki has a natural inclination to get good with them, i'd only really support it if we could bag up a teacher...Ask daddy Danzo for his advice on it. See what he says, we can then draw a line under this. Either way not happening before the exams, maybe the time skip?
>>
>>48221287

Why even amuse the the notion, the time spent learning puppets could be spent perfecting what we're good at all ready.

puppetry is not additive to our skills.
>>
>>48221287
Anon, I know it's up to you what you draw but puppets will be a nuisance and I generally don't like them. I rather compromise and be a toy tinker.
>>
>>48221282
>>48221286
The puppet covers our weak melee combat
Yes it would take a while to learn but so would the bow and fan, which we basically never use
We're rich as fuck and can easily afford things to modify the puppets
We get bonus's to inventing shit which would allow us to make some really awesome puppets
We can always switch locations with a puppet if we have one
The qm has already told us that our stats DO in fact benefit the puppet combat style
We actually learn things pretty damn fast, a max of 5 and we go up in increments of .5 every couple threads? We could nearly max puppetry with a single montage if we felt like it
>>
>>48221282
Literally every time, and then they act like they've never been refuted on the exact same points before.

The last thread they were brought up they tried to defend it with "they're different"

fucking disgusting.
>>
>>48221287
Puppets suck. Not a fan of the bow either but I don't hate it.

Swords might be neat because they're literally a legendary weapon, and the fan is signature.

Though you may now be accused of using your position as art fag to influence choices and REEE'd at.
>>
I find it hilarious that the anti-puppet fags main arguement is basically "I dont like them"
>>
Totally getting HMQ vibes in here.... how nostalgic
>>
>>48221322

>>
>>48221322
1. So does shoring up our melee and melee stats, which is easier to learn. We can also use other ninjutsu

2. Not nearly as long, nowhere close in fact. Puppetry is learned over years.

3. We can do that with literally anything else.

4. We can also improve techniques, like othr kinds of jutsu.

5. Totally and utterly irrelevant.

6. The numbers, they also support what we're learning now, so that's a non argument.

7. That's bullshit, we were increasing minor stats. This is a completely new thing.
>>
Actually given how unique puppetry is, it WOULD make a fairly decent additional layer of seperation between our normal persona and our ROOT persona.

Either way its pretty clear nobodies opinions will be changed by now, so lets just wait and see what the votes say.

I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I'm the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the **** out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my ****ing words. You think you can get away with saying that **** to me over the Internet? Think again, ****er. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You're ****ing dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little ****. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your ****ing tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will **** fury all over you and you will drown in it. You're ****ing dead, kiddo.

Tis' the nature of 4chan, pissing contests like this just kinda happen everywhere on here, but the quests usually get the brunt of it. Moreso in quests based off a setting with an established fanbase.

Reminder we need Tsuki to develop a bad ass combo to do with a Shadow clone creating the myth of her twin and so she can have this theme.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-gBwTi39kI

Using one another as launch pads, weaving wire between the two, endless substitutions, clone poping into Stellar Chakra.

Avian contract all the way. Even if peacocks are genjutsu-based, genjutsu from summons is legitimately powerful if I remember the series correctly and we have 0 genjutsu options otherwise. It'd be nice to have some flexibility.

Plus, the contract would probably include multiple types of birds other than peacocks. There will probably be mid-tier birds we can summon that are ninjutsu or utility-based with the big badass Suzaku at the top of the summon roster.

so, bird contract pros:
>Flexibility
>Fits our ic personality
>Variability in use and talents of creatures summoned
>Suzaku
>Combines well with stellar release
>Potential best sage mode
>probably will teach us mad flashy ninjutsu
>Isn't incompatible with lightning element either

Cons:
>Probably brings 0 taijutsu to the table
>You'd have to choose between birds and tigers

We should go full Sasaki Kojiro and develop a signature kenjutsu technique/form based on the movement of our bird of paradise/tropical bird summons in flight.
Combine with stellar chakra, the kiba swords, and potential best sage mode and we've got an ultimate technique.
>Watch closely, peasant! Today you witness Konoha's most beautiful technique, count your blessings that it is the last thing you see! ohohohoho!
>Stellar Release: Norihime-Style, Sapphire Dance of the Celestial Phoenix!
