You are not Jadyk of the Wormstar. You have no name, only a title and a promise of great power. You are the wayward Voidknight Disciple and this is your greatest challenge.

Roiling clouds thick with oily water are illuminated in flashes of lightning, the storm raging over the dark continent. Thunder rumbled and shook the frame of the frigate as it raced away from the primitive city glowing with light and flames in the distance. There was another flash of lightning as it nearly struck the necrotic ship, a sensor cluster on the hull spotting a brief moment of something sailing above them.

The Think Tank joined with the ship barely has time to let out an alarm before something rocks the ship with impact. Pilot reconstructed, fused at the waist to their consoles work frantically before a holoscreen flashes before you. An eye cluster on an auxilliary autocannon rotating to spot a large shape clinging to the hull, twisted flesh and armored plates revealed in a flash of lightning before the weapon barks to life, unleashing a spray of burning metal at their hitchhiker. Great wings of folded flesh snap open and the beast disappears into the storm with a shriek.

Sensors could not detect the beast anymore, the frigate staying below the storm level where the even greater threat above could not spot them. You grumble as you sit in the command chair of bone and muscle and glance at the sealed canisters full of necrotic fluid pilfered from the grotesque city.

You are a Disciple of the Voidknight Order, a commander in the New Necrotic Armada. But you are lost, flung to the far reaches of the galaxy and you must prepare to return home.

The Voidknight Disciple was part of the team overseeing the experiment in combining Skip and Void Drive capabilities. Due to an unexpected energy surge the frigate, and the cavern surrounding it, were flung into a distant portion of the galaxy. So far that it takes dedicated concentration from the Deep Rot itself to link with the Think Tanks brought along with the ship.

Their ship damaged and lacking proper fuel for any long term travel they approached the nearby system. Discovering a jovian world they stopped briefly to harvest fuel for the necrotic ship before traveling to a dark world hiding in the shadow of the asteroid belt. Protected by twin moons the planet was covered in dark ocean, the land jagged mountains, burning volcanoes and swamplands.

The lights of cities and smog of factories marked civilizations hold on the world. Knowing the need for a Cauldron to repair the ship and bolster their meager crew they descended through the clouds and discovered a world of hellish corruption. The Disciple could feel the presences of powerful necrotic energy, a beacon of profane power shining unseen through the storms.

The Frigate hid itself in the storm as it approached a source of necrotic energy. A large city of industrialized metal spills out like an infection from within a canyon. A river leading away from the city was black with pollution from where it emerged from a massive factory and smokestacks belched thick plumes into the sky despite the heavy rain. Floating high above, the Disciple and the Think Tank could sense powerful necrotic energy within the factory.

They watched as a large train emerged from the side of the factory, smoke trailing it as it began its journey across the blasted plains and swamps to another city on the horizon. The Think Tank said that it detected the presence of necrotic fluids much like a Cauldron on the transport. The Disciple did not like the coincidence but could not pass up the opportunity.

A blast of a Necrotic Flayer turret derails the train into a wreckage of flames and twisted metal. Reconstructed Talons and Stingers depart from the ship and pick through the pieces and gathering the corpses of the trains crew. They appeared human but were twisted and misshapen with tumors and necrotic induced deformities. Sealed in a vault were several canisters of what the Think Tank confirmed as Cauldron fluid.

Their supplies loaded in the cargo hold the Frigate made to take off until the frigate detected several gunship sized craft lift off from the city in pursuit. Managing to score several hits on the frigate before being shot down the sub-capitol rose above the clouds to escape the toxic world only to come under fire once more.

A craft the size of a cruiser floated above, highly decorated with twisted faces contorted in agony wrought of black metal. Bolts of necrotic energy, much like the armada's necroflensers, crackled against the shields, forcing the frigate to hide below the storms once more.

Flying to the swamplands thick with large plantlife the ship kept a constant eye out for anymore winged beasts but to your relief you proceeded unhindered. The dark hull of the frigate helped hide it in the storm, the ship passing over the canopy of even darker trees.

Searching for a place to safely land the Pilots scanned the area and you briefly consider scorching a landing zone yourself with the ships weaponry when one finally spots something. Hidden amongst trees and plants that had begun to reclaim it was a small settlement of rusted metal on a patch of relatively dry land.

The trees whip in the sudden gusts as the frigate lands itself cautiously testing the stability of the ground. Several trees were crushed under the ships weight or their branches snapped but the ground held.

With the ship landed the Think Tank begins the final steps of creating a functional Cauldron, floating to the chamber that held the frame of it with the canisters of Necrotic fluid following after it.

Branches from the broken trees are gathered and tosses onto the hull of the ship by a group of Talons and Stingers trying to meld it into the canopy of dense trees. Branches are placed on weapon mounts, the Reconstructed trying to make the ships hull seem like an outcropping of stone or a hill.

Gathering the rest of the Reconstructed you guide them through the gray-barked trees, a chorus of croaking and buzzing animals ringing in the air. Vine-like plants strangle several trees, sprouting flowers that blazed with ultraviolet light and winged creatures flit from tree to tree. The waters were dark with mats of organic slime resting on the surface, eyes reflecting the flash of lightning above disappearing underwater as they passed.

The settlement looked half-devoured by the swamp, vines and plants choking buildings of rusted metal and rotten wood. The remains of broken boats littered the shores and a half-sunken pier that looked like it had caught fire long ago. You send your Talons ahead, the nimble creatures stalking through the waist high grass and shrugs silently as they held their necroflensers and shardspitters at the ready.

The crawl through the windows of the first buildings they encounter, startling wildlife out of hiding. A long legged creature leap into the air with a loud buzzing, its bulbous body compressing and spraying a black ink around them that splatters one Talon. The ink sizzles faintly, a moderate acid that does little more than scar the reconstructed.

Moving in with the rest of the Stingers you step into the settlement proper and gaze with empty eyesockets up at the bleak monolith erected in the center of the buildings. The settlements buildings were arranged around a central square but driven into the ground at the center was a twisted pillar of pitted necrotic forged metal, it and the ground around it blacked from a great fire.

>cont
>>
>>48202097
What appeared to be several suits of armor fused to or formed from the pillar soon revealed a ghastly truth. Prying open one of the strange armors a pile of scorched bones fall to the ground at your feet. Investigation to the other "armors" revealed the same.

As you stood and regarded the strange sacrificial pillar your Reconstructed spread out to search the buildings. It was not long before there was a shrill chirping that deepened into rumbling croak. From the pier a creature bursts from the water chasing after a Talon that dashes madly on all fours. Almost as large as a Coffin dropship the creature dashed forward on a tripod of stout limbs. A four jawed mouth splays open, revealing rows of beak like teeth, a pair of shining eyes placed above and below its mouth staring after the undead it chased.

Under attack by wildlife!
How shall you deal with this pest?

As the Talons scatter by hopping up the sides of buildings and into trees the Stingers fall back to defensive positions with their bone rifles and shields. The pursued Talon dashes about on all fours, scampering around a building and running past where you stood near the center square. The beast charges shortly after, its armored shoulder knocking down the side of a dilapidated building as it's chirping bellow calls after its prey.

Reaverhammer gripped in your armored grasp the beast bears down you, it's feral eyes glinting as it spreads its large maw like a flower of beaks. Voidflames flare from the gaps in your armor as you take a stance with the hammer held in both hands, void energy rippling the light around it. The creature is nearly upon you, hopping off its third powerful leg to dive with mouth held open but you swing the hammer with blinding speed to crack against the tough beak. Bone chips go splintering off in all directions as the beast lets out a yelp of surprised pain, knocked onto it's side for a moment before it rears up to attempt another lunging dash.

Sidestepping your attacker you pause a moment, rearing back before letting out your own bellowing shout as voidflames erupt from your skull to scorch and rend its armored side. It recoils from the sudden assault and turns, ready to flee into the water to nurse its wounds but it barely made it a step before it was suddenly set upon by the Talon leaping from above.

Claws glowing with heat plunge into its flesh, Talons chattering and shouting as they aimed their weapons point-blank against it and blast away with necroflenser and riddle exposed flesh with bone flechettes. Letting out a squeal of panic the swampbeast begins to shake itself violently, tossing away several Talons who slipped away. One leg on its side suddenly bends and it starts to roll over. Most of the undead jump free but several are crushed into the mud underneath its bulk.

>cont
>>
>>48202787
Almost as if it were asking for release from its pain it exposed its underbelly to you, soft overlapping scales lacking the armor of its back providing no resistance to the pointed end of your Reaverhammer piercing where you believed its heart should be. Voidflames engulf you as you drain the beast of its life energy to fuel your own volatile core.

The beast slain you have the trapped Talons dug free, satisfied that they survived with only a few broken limbs easily repaired once the Cauldron is finished.

Victory!

So I had an idea for a ship core defence as most of our ships are crew less during the fight with the sunscales their boarding parties where able to quickly destroy some of our ships
I was thinking we could have devouring swarm pods built into the halls leading to the critical areas of the ship with various airlock systems

Enemies run in airlock shuts and is pumped full of devouring swarms on them

This could be applied to many sensitive areas or facilities
>>
>>48202797
The settlement looked like it had been picked clean in it's abandonment, only the shells of buildings remaining. Walls are pulled down and the metal cut into manageable pieces with concentrated necroflenser beams. The swampbeast is hacked apart as well, its biomass much needed for the Cauldron but you keep one of the beaks as a trophy, a story to be shared with Lorgul and Jadyk.

Recovered:
>100B
>250M

Upon your return to the frigate you find it covered in branches and mud, mostly hidden from view and you hope it is enough. The Think Tank mentally greets you and requests your presence for the final stage of creating the Cauldron.

The chamber's walls are inscribed with runes of the Wormstars profane language, power pulsing from the large Cauldron made of stone and metal in the center. Necrotic fluid bubbles gently, the dark fluid twisting with unseen currents as the Think Tank floats above spinning in the fumes.

You step up to the Cauldron and plunge your hands into the mixture. Voidflames flare around you before dying off, instead bolts of Necrotic power crackle along your armor as you tap into the core of power that linked the new Voidknight Order to the will of Jadyk. Your spark of necrotic might leaps from within you to the Cauldron, the mixture suddenly boiling and churning. Pulling your hands free the necrotic energy fades, and the Voidflames return, the effort leaving you drained of the boost gained from the swampbeast.

>Cauldron has been completed
>>
>>48203189
That's a cool idea, actually. We're already modifying the worms that make up the devouring swarms into domesticated pets for the people of Iti'a'ropku, I'm sure we could develop a second batch that could double as a biohazard removal mechanism within an airlock or bulkhead.

Time to build some cows
Also can cauldrons create kelp?
>>
>>48203189
That sounds horrifying for any boarding party to encounter

>>48203272
The Think Tank does contain the genetic information of the kelp but it lacks a tank to grow them. It can make catoblepas though, they would have to roam around eating local vegetation or have it brought to them if they were made.

Sorry for the rather short thread but I need to cut it here for now. Thread is archived.

Hope folks enjoyed the return, we'll be continuing the story of the Voidknight Disciple either Tuesday or Wednesday with Jadyk returning proper next week.

I actually plan one splitting up DASQ slightly, the Disciples adventures as he travels home during the weekdays and Jadyk and the wider Armada on the weekend. If folks think that'll work or is desired.

I'll be up for a while longer if folks have questions.

Feels good to get back to this even though I loved getting back into Ghouls as well heh

>>48203445
Now I feel guilt
>>
>>48203297
Too dangerous for them to roam free atm perhaps send out hunting parties to clear area of local predators then use gained biomass to make water cows and release a kelp variant into the local waters for them to feed on.

Actually do the kelp release first to allow it to spread first while we hint the local fauna down.

>>That sounds horrifying for any boarding party to encounter
I serve at the armadas pleasure
>>
>>48203460
Can't wait for Jadyk
>>
>>48203297
Can't we build the tank to grow the kelp? What was the ratio? 1 tank feeds 2 catobleas?

What tech from the NNA do we have available anyway? Is there anything restricted?

I'm a bit confused, is the civilization here only in industrial age? Or are they spacefaring?
Is the Necrotic faction the only presence on this planet or are there other countries?
>>
>>48204621
I think it was two catopbleas to a tank, but I'm not sure. And given how we've encountered strike craft and cruisers sharing the same motifs with the rest of this civilization, I'd say they're probably space faring.
