Welcome back, Kestrels, to the thirty-second installment of Mecha Space Pirate Quest! As always, you are Admiral Roarke S. Starwind, leader of the Iron Kestrels space pirate fleet, master of the starship Rhinehawk, and pilot of the deadly Knuckle Kaiser.

Last time, you'd boarded the scavvie scow Pure Pure Puru with Red Siren and Lieutenant Alice "Clemmy" Farragut. It's your second time on this ship, the first being when it picked up the decrepit Knuckle Kaiser from where it was floating in space, and transferred it and you to California Station.

First for fucking scavies.
>>
>>47747848
We have alot if fucking to do in this thread considering we finally met Clemmy again

Although you're flush off another victory and have the semi-dismantled husk of the S-Slayer to prove it, the ship itself has seen better days. From the number of alarms going off and the general babble of the busy technical staff who barely have time to secure your quartet of mecha before the engines roar to life and begin hauling the orange brick of a ship away from Griggspont, you gather that the S-Slinger sitting nearly ten kilometers away has been peppering the Pure Pure Puru with precision plasma powershots. Apparently, he managed to nearly damage the engines, caused some harm to the ship's sensors, and knocked out the CIWS in the tense minutes where the ship was serving as your shield. Even before taking any damage, though, it's cramped and metallic and uncomfortable compared to the pirate vessels you're used to.

It would be nice to stay and gloat, but it's nicer to get out alive and unharmed. The Knuckle Kaiser and S-Flowerhorn are both damaged, the latter much moreso, but the Archen is unharmed and Rosita is humming smugly to herself as she pops the hatch on her mech, stretches like a cat, and descends the liftwire with a wave to the techs who are trying to open the S-Flowerhorn's cockpit hatch with power tools. You examine the damage to your mech's right arm, wince at the fact that the UJCIDF has access to guns that big these days, and ride your own liftwire down until the soles of your boots clang against the bay floor. Captain Ashta is waiting for you there. He looks smug. He has his PC out and a tally program active. You can practically see the credit signs in his beady scavvie eyes.

"Heeeey, Admiral. Buddy. Roarke. Ol' Dude McCool. You know, my ship got a lot of new dents because of you. You did say you were paying, right? You and Red Siren? I'll call it a wash if you give me your mech, what do you say?"

Pretty sure that remote controlled mech is Fairchild. I might just be crazy though.
>>
>>47748081
Could be Lysa. Considering Fairchild's speech and mannerism is completely different from First Mate both times.
>>
>>47748081
Speaking of remote control how the fuck does statting drones and drone controls work? I was going to try making a more expensive mech with four wire guided drones but I couldn't figure it out so I gave it boosters and command armor instead.
>>
or could be Keith Young's clone bruder. You know there was some theory that the person Lysa is based on has an army of clones of Keith's inspiration character and uses one at a time.
>>
>>47748079
Can we ask him to join our pirate fleet? He's almost a pirate anyway
>>
>>47748196
Not much use to us as a pirate.
>>
"No. In fact, fuck no. I'll pay you with credits and Red Siren can get your ship fixed." You take off your helmet and put your shades back on

"Really? That's great, pal. Just great. You know, we discovered a lot of incidental damage that must have come from random plasma scatter, the whole hull might need to be replaced..." His stupid scavvie smile grows wider and wider.

You stare him down. You've seen more than one starship hosed down by a mech's guns, "Really? It must be made of cardboard, then, and I'll be happy to replace it with the same. He was going after vital systems, Captain. I wasn't born yesterday, you know."

Captain Ashta gives vent to a world-weary sigh, "Can't blame me for trying. You pirates, you'd think after a guy risks his neck to help you you'd show him some appreciation, maybe throw in a little extra for good service. You know, as a tip." Fucking scavvies!

"'Never take advantage of a man whose most dangerous weapons are on the ends of his arms."' You respond, channeling Oda a little.

"Eh, what's that?" Ashta blinks.

"You wanted a tip, Captain, I gave you one. Anyway, while we're talking about what I owe you..."

You hesitate as a thought strikes you.

Kamille a best.
>>
>>47748285

You could. You're a competent mechanic in your own right. However, you have a lot to do, including being there when Captain Ashta warps so he doesn't do something stupid and scavvie-like such as try to turn you in to the UJCIDF for a bounty.
>>
>>47748348
Red siren or clementine could probably handle that though.
>>
>>47748331
You say that, but for all we know, he could be punching the space pope on the moon because he said "Jesse is a girl's name".

>>47748348
So it's a matter of 'do we trust him enough to not screw us over?' Plus side is they can't really hijack the Kaiser thanks to it's locks and Karen would likely kill the man who tries to steal a bit of the kaiser.
>>
>>47748348
Alroght then instead lets go see the doctor and Athena
>>
>>47748380
Oh shit I forgot they were here. Cant the doc take a look at our mech when he gets a minute?
>>
>>47748431
Hey there's an idea.
>>
>>47748431
That we could do anon
>>
>>47748431
Doc's more of a mobile armor technician. I rather wait for Karen and i don't trust Scav crews to not pilfer off something.
>>
>>47748508
Mobile armors are just oversized mechs anyway and we have like two days travel or something so he might as well give it a once over.
>>
>>47748508
We've got more than enough parts to replace something stolen, and karen can easily find a missing part. That won't matter if a mine or bomb explodes on us and destroys the kaiser. Remember, the first Slayer had that sort of stuff too. We also don't want to deal with them following us. If they skim the top, so be it. Better safe than sorry.
>>
>>47748553
A bomb would probably be fairly obvious anon.
>>
"How long until microgate projection?" You decide to hold off on letting scavvies inspect your mech. Pieces might vanish, even if they can't get into the cockpit.

"Five minutes, we're getting distance and then folding void. Why?" The scavvie captain scratches his head.

"Because I need to talk to the Clancies. Those people must be awfully frightened, it's time someone stopped by to reassure them." And it's time you got some answers about Suleiman 1.

"What about my fee?" Fucking scavvies!

"Talk to Red Siren for now, she'll sort out all the details." Besides, she haggles harder than you do, and it would distract her from distracting the technicians with her star power. She's thanking them for the rescue, which is good, but you can't help but think of poor Clemmy trapped in her cockpit pod, not being rescued because Rosita is signing autographs.

Forgot my [Continued]
>>
By the way, last time you settled on the basic ship design for the Rhinehawk.

Unfortunately, I have bad news about the proposed Shining Finger style sidegrade for the Knuckle Kaiser. It's not a sidegrade, it's not a sidegrade at all. In fact, it's monumentally expensive to replace the Kaiser's fists and heavy plate shielding with an EMW version.
>>
>>47748670
Energy melee weapons are for nerds anyway.
>>
>>47748670
Well, then I guess we look for alternatives. Or a big score, because fiscally unfeasible/inefficient is just a state of mind. A mind that hasn't rolled around in a hot tub full of cash.
>>
>>47748670
So what you are saying is laser fist bits.
>>
>>47748712
I wonder would it be cheaper to just add a second set of arms.
>>
>>47748712
But again, to reiterate, we should just look for alternatives. Speaking of cash I wonder how iron kestrel merchandise is doing now that Oda is doing his magic. Actually I wonder what potential merchandise all of our staff(all crew) and companions have, and which of them have roarke things. Ahahaha.
>>
>>47748670
Were you going for a Quick Variable Beam Shield or something (mated with regular hands to allow for grappling)?
>>
Hm, half an hour break, lads. It seems when my laptop crashed it deleted some of my pre-prepared stuff, and while I can rewrite it I think better with some dinner in me.
>>
>>47748758
Seeing as the rest of them have been relegated to one massed barrage of long range fire and two off screen fights they probably dont have much. The master harpies and maybe the bluegill squad might have something.
>>
>>47748758
I'm sure there's a movie in the works.
>>
>>47748712
Even with a big score, Auditorium is limited in how expensive a mech she can produce. We might already be pushing it with just making the Kaiser bigger and tougher, even without all the bells and whistles attached. As it is, there's nothing particularly wrong with our fists as is, that we'd need to do a complete overhaul for.
>>
>>47748798
That was great.
>>
>>47748787

No, a Quick Variable Beam Shield with Handy, WA +3 (for DA 0 in shield form), 8K base.

This "weapon mating" thing might be a lot easier to pull off, though.
>>
>>47748824
Don't recall actually being able to purchase Handy for EMWs.

After all, it would be rather awkward, trying to handle objects with your high-power focused laser projections without damaging them, wouldn't it?
>>
>>47748824
Would make sense looks wise as well. The beams would be coming from the fists or coating them rather than having beam fists. Would be more space efficient as well.

I still stand by using armored thruster fists as bits though. They'd be much cheaper and provide an alternative attack and defense to our beam knuckles.
>>
>>47748850

It's not on the normal list for them...but the blurb at the start of the chapter recommends doing shenanigans like that if you can't decide what a given weapon would best look like statswise.

Also, what I'd come up with was more like a plasma mitten for the Knuckle Kaiser's hands.
>>
I made a thing. Supposed to be an ace custom pirate mech which is powerful while still somewhat low tech. I am almost certain I fucked up the spaces on the hands and possibly the gun.
http://pastebin.com/fkCeuZ7A
>>
>>47748911
Fair enough. That's not quite how I read it, but whatever works.

Though, it might not be the best idea to actually call them 'plasma mittens' in-story.
>>
>>47748950
Spaces taken are generally equivalent to the final CP cost of the system, after system-specific multipliers. For instance, 10-Kill Quick, Handy Melee Weapons would take up 15 Spaces. 1.5 CP spent on Space Efficiency would reduce that by 3 to 12 Spaces.

Similarly, the Laser Cannon would take up 13.5. Spending 2.5 CP would reduce that by 5 to 8.5 Spaces.

inb4 I fucked up the math
>>
>>47748798

Who would be the winning waifu because the UJCIDF won't promote polygamy?
>>
>>47749095
Silly anon, this is a ODA production. All the harem stuff is there. Surprised noone noticed Oda, Roarke and siren on the front.
>>
>>47749081
I have seen weapons like odas gun that take up less space than the CP however.
Gonna need to spend more on space efficiency for the fucking cannon and mess up my nice clean 220 now anyway
>>
>>47748132

How? Keith and Caesar are pro military pilots and have pools around 16 or 17. First Mate has 20 in three separate skills.
>>
>>47749150
You are assuming it's all natural. When Mask kept mentioning data, it made me think. What would he use the data for? Perhaps he seeks to copy our moves? Use our actions and have the cpu bits do the heavy lifting? A learning computer ala old gundams.

"I won't be an ass and say 'took ya long enough', I know we're damned lucky to be out. I'll just say thank you, and give you my condolences for your friend. He was a brave damned man, taking on that creepy bitch with the red Harpy in close combat. Even Her Royal Generalness was treating that one with some respect." Duncan grunts, scratching his chin as Athena bounces around the room, clinging to your shoulders and laughing.

You feel the lurch of the ship's tesseract tricking space into thinking two very distant points are actually right next to each other, and the unsettling elevator-stopping-too-quickly feeling of returning to reality. Athena makes a face and hugs into your orange mane while the doctor's bluff face goes pale and he clutches his stomach. Fortunately, you'd brought him some coffee in case of this eventuality.

>[What say?]
>>
>>47749210
That creepy bitch actually did most of the heavy lifting you know.
>>
>>47749140
It probably has the cost for Space Efficiency folded into the cost of the weapon for brevity. I'm guessing a 14 CP weapon plus 2 CP of Space Efficiency. Making some assumptions, and doing the math:
9 (base 6-Kill Beam Weapon) * 0.88 (drop 500m range to 75% ≈ 350m) * 0.8 (WA -1) *2.5 (BV 4) * 0.9 (Clip-fed) * 0.9 (10 rounds per clip) = 12.83 CP ≈ 12 CP and Spaces.

Dropping that to 10 Spaces takes 1 CP, and 3 CP is used to purchase 3 clips (which take no Spaces in themselves).
In total, the weapon takes 10.83 Spaces ≈ 10 Spaces, and costs 16.83 CP ≈ 16 CP, with Space Efficiency included.

>>47749231
Anon, the flowerhorn was yellow, not red. The creepy bitch is a third party.

>>
>>47749320
As do all of caesar weapons.
>>
>>47749320
>>47749370
Be that as it may, the general rule is that weapons (and most other systems) take up as much space as they cost. As I proposed, the Space Efficiency is likely folded up into the total cost of the weapon rather than listed separately.

I could, of course, be wrong, but then that would mean that I can't exactly offer you any helpful advice here.
>>
>>47749435
Its quite confusing. There are a few in the core book that are the same. I think I understood how it worked at one point and that I forgot annoys me more than anything else.
>>
>>47749467
The Corebook likely uses slightly different means of calculation than the ATM. There are slight differences here and there (for instance, the standard Main Sensors having 2 Kills in Core, but only 1 in the ATM).

Apart from that, quite a few things seem to come down to rounding. For instance, a Light Beam Gun from Core is a 1-Kill, 1-Space Beam Weapon of cost 2 CP.

A 1-Kill Beam Weapon in the ATM would cost 1.5 CP and take as many Spaces. Hypothetically, to reduce it to 1 Space, you would need to purchase half a Space Efficiency (if such a thing is possible), which would bring the final cost to 1.75 CP (rounding to 2). Alternatively, you could get 2 CP flat and 0.5 Spaces rounded to 1. Either or.

Similar comments are made about the cost of Hands in the Errata, wherein it is stated that the cost is rounded from 1.75 CP to 2 for convenience.

Its a pain in the bollocks is what it is.

"Red Harpy?"

"Er, I meant to say green. Kind of a key lime pie color, like the ones at Suleiman 1, only without the white skull insignia on it. I was shocked to see it in the Iulia Maesa's mech bay, to tell the truth."

"The thanks are appreciated anyway." You think you looked pretty cool, at least. You have your moments, "The man who died was my older brother. Before anything else, could you tell me everything about the person who killed him?"

"Admiral, I was in a cell for most of it. Yeah, I talked a few times with Lieutenant Blondie and the mechanic who got us out, but I wasn't in on the overall plan. First of all, I don't even know if it was a girl or not, I'm just assuming from the height and build. Some pilot suits are blockier than others, you know, and this one had a bunch of attachments for some kind of system I'm not familiar with that broke up its outline. I know from listening in when they brought me meals that this was some ultra-ace brought in for this 'Soul Bee' thing, whatever that is. Funny thing is, they say she came in on a Harpy, which I didn't believe until I saw it myself. I did see 'em with the General once, and Her Imperial Pinkness wasn't being as shouty and high-handed as usual, but they had the pilot suit on then too. Perhaps I'm just hoping it was a cute girl, but going off the hips I'm about 70% sure there was a woman in that thing."

"Daddy, why do the hips tell you?" Athena looks up with wide, innocent eyes.

"Well, when they grow up, girls have wider hips than boys, usually. I'll explain it when you're older." Duncan ruffles his daughter's hair, chuckling, and takes a swig of his coffee before he gets serious again, "Anyway, she was working on her Harpy when Cassius walked into the bay with us. She held her hands up and stood with the rest the same as everyone else when Cassius used some program on his PC to activate a tampered-with fusion core he'd practically turned into a missile."

This is why we need to have a UJCIDF mole to attempt to dig up info on Fairchild and whoever she's working with.

If she still trusts Clemmy (which she probably doesn't), we could use her. That would be the simplest option, if it works, but also the least reliable.

Or we could try to get Caesar to help. I imagine it would be harder to get him on board, and he'd have less influence than Clemmy.

Or we could get Mohammed (who still doesn't have a record) to enlist 'to get back at those damned pirates, after finally getting free of them, to make sure no one else has to go through the same'. Metal Gear Mohammed 2: Sunnis of Liberty when?

>>47749741
It would probably be easier to just go around and blow up all the people trying to fuck us over than convince anyone to do anything to do anything about the corrupt military. Not like it really helps us anyway because the non corrupt military is still after our heads because we are goddamn pirates.
>>
>>47749785
Yes, but having the people trying to launch a smear campaign on us out of the way will give us that couple more allies in the future.

Colonies that think we're a rapacious genociding warmonger will be less amenable than those who think we're a somewhat reasonable scoundrel who's only doing what he has to.
>>
>>47749785
Not exactly. As is, we just need to keep messing with the fairchild faction and help with the divide. As is, we destroyed two of their big plans. Destroying the Jaburo and Auditorium. They lost the green skulls as well.

In terms of other things they could go for? Mars with That angry guy, and maybe Moon and the church. Getting everyone together under one banner would solidify her power. But if it's just her and her benefactors, then she will be quite easier to deal with.
>>
>>47749862
Any non shady colonies wouldn't help us much anyway because its illegal. There isnt really much point launching a smear campaign against people who are already criminals. Especially ones that could easily be making money legitimately in the military.
>>
>>47749876
We should go about rounding up some more allies, they has to be some merc groups of other pirates we can get to join us
>>
>>47749899
Colonies aren't uniformly purely shady or non-shady. As opinions of us rise, those few marginal colonies that otherwise wouldn't have taken us in will begin to consider the possibility. That means a handful more places to draw recruits from, and a handful more ports open in a storm.
>>
>>47749938
For what reason would they take us in? Maybe they hear we arent really a bad guy but that doesn't stop helping us from being a huge crime.
>>
>>47749904
Will likely be easier than we think. We just made a huge vacuum in the pirate power structure and become king of the hill now that the green skulls are dead. They will likely come in droves, though that would be a good time to do the tourney to see who is capable of joining up for the main crew.
>>
>>47749968
Plus we'll have some aces from outside coming in to win the prize that we can recruit, and hopefully Hamon will try to send a mole that we can catch and get info out of
>>
"She'd been doing some pretty serious modifications to her Harpy, adding some sort of major system. I remember wanting a better look because I wasn't familiar at all with the technology she was using, which is quite a first. Anyway, Cassius had hacked the Iulia Maesa's computers and faked orders from the general to release the Pure Pure Puru from impound, so it was floating outside and we were going to take a Bluegill from the mechbay to get there. Makes sense, right? I may be years out of practice, but even I've played enough Bluegill Joe to at least maneuver one of those things. Although I've got real concerns about their thruster efficiency. Honestly, yours looked better and had a better setup, I think Bahamutcorp really just wants to sell those stupid flying mech vehicle 'Flounder' things for planetary use and the new Pumpkinseeds more than they want to update the current line. Fucking tragedy. A Bluegill's cheap, it's got clean lines, it's efficient, it's everything you could ask for in a front-line mech. Anyway, so Athena and I get in, I nearly crash into the wall because piloting a real 'Gill is a little different than flying the ones in Bluegill Joe, but we manage to avoid it and run for the catapult, which Cassius had set on a timer.. As I'm going, though, I see her slug Cassius with a stun rod and knock the PC out of his hand. She kicked it and managed to get into her Harpy's cockpit. Suddenly, this huge mech with a mask for a face lights up and starts chasing us. It was about to drop more missiles on us than I'm comfortable remembering when Cassius physically dragged her out of her cockpit. We launched then, but I saw him go down with something in his neck, probably a knife. I think I saw her kicking him too."

You aren't sure when your hands clenched so tightly into fists, or why your words sound more like a growl than normal speech, "My brother...he still thought of others first until the very end."

For what reason does any colony take any ship in? The promise of work.

It's just that in this case, the possible consideration varies between "It's illegal, but as long as we don't get caught, we make a quick buck, and I hear this fellow isn't too bad of a guy." and "It's illegal, but as long as we don't get caught, we make a quick buck, and this guy's a fucking serial murderer-rapist-arsonist-jaywalker-genocider oh god help."

Well at least its not an EXAM system gone rogue.
>>
>>47750006
So we have the target at least. If we can get to the ship's hanger and crush the harpy, First Mate is dead. No more Slayer units. Just need to get close to her.
>>
>>47750066
Not necessary. Fairchild would just continue try infiltrating our crew. Better to have one we know of, rather than the unknowns we have to root out again and again.
>>
>>47750134
Actually, it explains why her rolls are so damn high. A harpy is what, a -2? Slim it down and it's a -1. When you use drones and bits of any size, they use the control mech's modifier, not the drones. So a -1 will carry over to a heavy as hell mech. We aren't fighting a ace, we're fighting a rookie using a light mech and relaying the data.

Duncan gives you a sympathetic pat on the back, "You're right to be proud of him, and he was proud of you. I lost a brother once too, believe it or not, I know how you feel."

"Mister Roarke? Are you sick? You're making a scary face." Little Athena puts her hand on your forehead, floating there with her boot electromagnets off, frowning in concentration.

You reach up, and with hands that don't shake at all despite just having been informed that your brother really was knifed in the throat and then kicked around by the same person that killed your Captain, you adjust your shades. Somewhere in your heart, a primal beat straight out of the 1980s is rising. You're ready to break the law. You're ready to kick ass. You're ready to gather an army to go after your enemies if you have to, "Just a little hot-blooded." You explain, as kindly as you can, "Athena, there are some bad people out there, and I'm going to punish them. That's all."

"Oh. Go get 'em!" She smiles encouragingly, then adds in a shy voice, "Is the scary blonde lady okay? Or the pretty boy with glasses?"

"Oh, yeah Roarke." Duncan grins, "You sly dog, you didn't tell me you were married. To a UJCIDF Lieutenant no less! Don't worry, she told us all about it, I never pegged you for being that kind of devoted husband. Hey, some people might call you old-fashioned for sending her love letters over the PC while you're apart, and on opposite sides no less...but I support you! A real man doesn't let anything get in the way of his romance!"

Athena puffs her cheeks out, "I want Sam to be his wife. She's funny and nice."

>>47750212
"Eh, it's a little more complicated than that. But you're right. Nothing should stand in the way of love and romance."
>>
>>47750186
You're confusing Control Modifier with Maneuver Value. CM is inherent to the Remote Control System in the Mother unit, and is used to determine the Skills and Stats used to pilot the drone (Skills being Piloting, Gunnery, Reflector Skill, etc.. and Stats being Reflex, Intelligence, etc..). MV is inherent to the mech itself, and a Drone calculates its own MV based on its own weight and systems. All having a high CM does is allow the pilot to not take penalties when piloting a large number of Drones.
>>
>>47750212
"Well, they are both really nice girls and I treat them right and proper no matter what. It's what any many would do after all." Be polite, kind and vague. Use that 10 cool and honesty!
>>
>>47750274

So you're saying that one way Wong could be UTTERLY CHEEKY is if he made a giant, super-slow, super-heavy defensive mech with a ton of low-weight funnels and an ace pilot?
>>
>>47750212
Dumb question: How tall are the mechs in this? How tall is a Harpy? A Bluegill? Knuckle Kaiser?

Also, how do the mechs in this stack up against Gundams (from the UC) and the like?
>>
>>47750246
Infinite operation range is an option.
>>
>>47750314
A Bluegill weighs 34 tons while a Zaku II weighs about 74. The mechs is this mostly out fly OYW gundam mechs at least.
>>
>>47750313
Yes.

It's not like I haven't tried to do something similar. It quickly becomes extremely expensive, though. Especially when you try to put RCSes on your Drones.

>>47750320
Operation Range, but not Control Range. The way the First Mate's mechs seem to have been making decisions and reacting to our actions implies to me that it's been within Control Range, where she can actively control the mech instead of having it run off pre-programmed instructions.

>>
>>47750488
My only qualm with the game is that Char's Zaku II don't come with rocket pods. But his Gelgoong is pretty fun late stage.
>>
>>47750369

A Zaku II is more heavily armed, though, and uses less futuristic materials. Early War-era mecha were pretty heavy, they made them progressively lighter over the course of the war, with more of an emphasis on handheld weapon packs and pods that could be switched out, to compensate for the fact that your average Green Man has a very large dicepool and their mook mecha had a wide variety of forms and functions.

As for yet another fun story (which Roarke has probably overheard from Cornelius) about why Bucephalus has been declining and Bahamutcorp is on the ascendancy. Part of the reason why Bucephalus could scrap the Thoroughbred line is because they had a promising new high-mobility mech, the Arabian, known for its extreme speed. They sunk a fortune into designing future models and advertising campaigns after the prototypes proved useful during the final years of the War...but then the Hakimites ended up in charge of Mars instead of the Luna/Jupiter coalition some powerful people had been predicting. Naturally, the Martians were offended by Jovians flying a humanoid mech named "the Arabian" and raised a titanic stink about it until Bucephalus torpedoed the project. It didn't help that once the war was done all the money went into smaller mecha that could be produced more quickly and would primarily serve an anti-pirate function. The Martian mech companies then put out the Tulwar, which was also fast, powerful, and could rip apart Harpies with ease using its linked cannons, further ensuring there wasn't a market for the Arabian. It's said that at least two executives killed themselves over it.
>>
>>47750511
So she becomes a techy reverse trap? I can live with that.
>>
>>47750398

That's oddly pretty close to what I've been using, although the Medium mechs so far have been slightly taller. The Knuckle Kaiser is around 20m, a Harpy is 12m when standing on its hind legs.

And a question! For the sake of Mekton Zeta, would the Kshatriya's... THINGS that launch the funnels and have all the thrusters be Pods or Wings?

Heretics. Karen a best. Look at what she has built for Roarke, look at how elegantly her awkward love expresses itself through each punch landed and enemy blow parried by our mighty shields. How many nights did she spend toiling on it, staying awake on nothing but love and energy drinks and still finding time to snuggle with Roarke? Karen is already for all intents and purposes Roarke's wife, there is no competition with the glasses demon of the rhinehawk.

>>

If the system enhances the mech's movement in any way, it's probably Wings. If it's only as fragile as the armor that protects it, it's a Pod. If neither of these apply, do whatever you feel is best for your mech.

Since it saves weight, I'm considering trading out the second grapple-chan I was going to install on the mid-season upgrade of the Knuckle Kaiser and instead using those spaces to make the left-hand shield Active. "I." You say with gravitas, "Have a big heart. It's complicated, but I care about them both and treat them right. It's what any man should do."

Her little face twists into a little frown, "...But which one are you married to?"

You look at Duncan for help. He has none to give a philanderer such as you, his smirk twisting the scars on his harshly-proportioned face.

"Your father can explain it better, but nothing should get in the way of romance, he's right about that." You don't let your cool be ruffled at all, "When you find someone you love, you should protect their smile and keep them close."

"Daddy, what's Mister Starwind talking about?" Athena blinks innocently up at him.

"It's like when you have a big pile of candy and...um..." You struggle to explain in the face of Duncan's unyielding glare of fatherly disapproval.

"...And remember that too much candy causes tooth decay. Roarke Starwind is a pretty famous pirate, it makes sense that more than one person has feelings for him, little buddy." Doctor Clancy pats her on the head.

Athena's eyes go wide, "Could more than one person be like that for me someday?"

"Theoretically. Although I'd have to work twice as hard to put the fear of Jove into them." Duncan winces at the very thought.

Athena laughs and claps her little hands, "What if they're awful, though? What if they're dumb and I just wanna throw myself off the starship 'cause they're so dumb?"

"Then hope a better one catches you, or learn how to fly a mech." Duncan nods his head with authority.

"Oh. I'll find someone like that! Mister Roarke, do you have any candy? You said candy, so you have some, right?" She grins hopefully at you.

You get the box of pocky you'd been saving to share with Clemmy, and offer her a chocolate-covered stick. She looks at it skeptically, then takes a bite and grins.

"Ey, you've had a treat, why don't you go play outside the room for a while? Dad and the Admiral have something important to talk about." Duncan clears his throat.

You have some idea what he's about to say, "We'll come get you soon, Athena. We need to have an important grown-up talk."

She nods seriously and leaves the room with her head held high like a princess, taking ladylike munches of pocky and closing the door behind her.

Doctor Clancy's shoulders are tense, "I'm sorry, Roarke. What actually happened at Suleiman was suppressed, we were given an alternate story to tell on the air, and that pink-haired bitch implied I wouldn't get to see my daughter again unless I repeated their lies."

"I understand your reasons. I'd be quite the hypocrite if I blamed you for telling a lie to protect your daughter. You're a good person, Doctor, and I don't hold you accountable, but I still want to know what really happened. None of the ships in the Green Skulls' fleet had the kind of firepower needed for that kind of destruction."

He sighs heavily, "A day or so after you left, a Wels-class battleship showed up, the Jaburo."

You nod, "I'm familiar. Colonel Hatsheput's vessel, right?"

He frowns and shakes his head, "It was General Fairchild's then. Anyway, it shows up and the UJCIDF pours in, ignoring our complaints and telling us that the colony isn't safe and we're being relocated. They took the surviving scientists and technicians first, leaving everyone else below under minimal guard forming repair and salvage teams. Anyway, I was on the ship desperately trying to convince the General that nobody on Suleiman 1 was guilty of 'Collusion with Pirates' and getting short shrift from the strawberry shortcake when another ship came out of gate almost right on top of us."

He shuddered, "It was something I'd never seen before. Long and slender in front, like some Martian ships, but without the wings. It almost looked like a huge lance, white and gold, floating in space. Bigger than the damned Wels. The second she sees it, Pinky Psychotic's eyes light up like Saturnalia torches and she screams at the bridge crew to fire." He looks down at his feet, "I'll never forgive myself for not grabbing her and making them stop shooting. The other vessel didn't fire back until we opened up on them, after all. The Wels' big batteries gouged some holes in the colony, yeah, but the big lance ship's answering volley shredded it completely. I'm just relieved Athena didn't see any of it, and as much as that pink bitch deserved to die I'm glad she was able to avoid their fire and gated out of there as fast as she could since...you know...Athena was on board and all. Still, not a day goes by where I don't wonder what I could have done differently, how many people I could have saved if I'd just acted..." He buries his head in his hands.

"Duncan..." You put your hand on his shoulder. He looks up, and you slug him. 'Gently'. He reels back, but comes back at you with his own fist, which you barely avoid in time, "How the hell can you be so egotistical!? Those people didn't die because of you, so don't you dare take on that kind of burden when you have a daughter to think about! Those people didn't die because of you, so don't take the sins of the guilty onto yourself!"

He grabs you by the front of your pilot suit, his fist cocked back before the words sink in.

"You needed to get angry, big guy. At someone other than yourself. At least you didn't get punched as many times as I did, realizing it." You tilt your head back. You did suckerpunch him, you can handle it if he decides to deck you in revenge. Instead, he lets you go.

He adds a scribbled estimate of its size...and it is, indeed, bigger than a bloody Wels. This is a little bit horrifying.

"So, what is this?" You ask, "Some kind of UJCIDF prototype vessel? Did the General give any indication why she attacked it?"

Duncan gives you a very flat look, "That thing, Jovian? Not a chance. It's not Martian, either, or Lunar, or anything else from this solar system. I've never seen a ship like it before, but I'm just a scientist. I'm not privy to anything classified beyond the projects I've worked on. If you want to know about the Terrans sharing the technology for advanced A-Particle manipulation, I could talk for hours about the intricacies of plasma sheaths and the potential for beam weaponry, even ones malleable enough to change shape, that this opens up...but extrasolar affairs didn't exactly reach us on Suleiman. Man, poor old man Ahmad is going to be crushed. And furious."

You, personally, are very much not out of danger yet. No. From somewhere nearby, you hear footsteps. There should be nothing particularly ominous about those footsteps, but something about their pace, about the steady and perfectly measured tread, puts you onguard.

"Hi~" The Butcher chirps.

She walks around a corner of the ship's hallway and into your field of vision, her helmet hanging behind her shoulders. Slightly sweat-mussed golden hair hangs down around her face no further than her shoulders. The smile she gives you is wide and pure and sweet, welcoming you home. Her eyes glisten with the same passion that makes her bosom heave as she reaches for her belt...and pulls out something from behind the buckle.

Even as you shift into a relaxed fighting stance of your own, you glance down at what she's holding. It's a slightly rounded strip of some kind of glistening nanofiber, a bit longer than her hand and forearm extended. It's soft, though, it had to bend to fit behind her belt. What the hell is that? Some kind of marital aid? A short whip? Your nervousness intensifies, but your cool demeanor doesn't waver.

She presses her thumb on the pommel, and the thing abruptly stiffens to metallic hardness, a long, slender knife or miniature rapier. She smiles coquettishly, hellfire in her eyes.

"I'm cutting you out of those clothes." Her eyes narrow with predatory love.

Rolled 9 + 10 (1d10 + 10)

There's not an ounce of hesitation or a single dissenting voice in your mind. You bring your arms up into your standard boxing stance, and her eyes light up as though you'd just given her a diamond necklace.

"You make it sound like a race. I prefer to do the undressing, however, so I'll just have to rip your flightsuit off first." You're already calculating the angle from here to the nearest unoccupied cabin. You're taller than her and weigh more, you're pretty sure you could carry her if necessary. The knife, though, that's a problem.

"R-R-ROAAAAAARKEEEEEE~!" She shivers with anticipation, her teeth chattering a little.

She's right in front of you in the blink of an eye, and so fast you can barely follow her movements. You've seen Samantha giving some lessons in swordplay to your pilots, and while you recognize that she's an excellent fencer...you've never encountered someone as focused on striking a killing blow as this woman.

If this was a real fight, that first blow might have decided it. You feel the tip of the blade right against your adam's apple as you're taken offguard. She smiles at you, pure joy in her eyes as she tugs the point downwards. There's definitely a mono-edge on it, because it slices easily through the zipper down to your breastbone. She sighs happily, staring at your exposed shoulder, and goes to flick the shirt back to expose more of it with the tip of her knife.

She doesn't get close, you grab for her hand and she has to snatch it back, her balance swaying perfectly back onto her heels. Like a cat, her motions are fluid but directed, avoiding both of your attempts to grab her arms with a charming little giggle. Her cheeks are flushed and her eyes are glistening, "I can't believe this is real. I can't believe I finally get to see you. I can't believe I touched you. I...I...I am...I am really here, and you're trying to hold my hand even...even while we're fighting..." She's panting, and it isn't from exertion.

You barely overextend by an inch. You're still too used to having the Knuckle Kaiser's thick armor protecting you...but that inch is all it takes. You almost get your fingers around her wrist, but she twists them and bends your hand backwards at an angle to deny you leverage, flipping the knife around into a reverse grip and hooking the tip into your zipper again, "Got you~" She whispers, pulling down and slicing the flight suit open to your navel.

[Continued]

"So raw...I just want to bite into you while your style is still all soft and doughy...I want to leave my handprints in it." She coos, licking her lips,

"Ahn~ And your body...it's so hard and tough. Looking at the shape of your muscles, I want to...to..." She's shaking a little, and this time, her distraction is her undoing. You grab her hand, and squeeze.

"R-R-ROARKE! You're holding my hand~! You're holding my ha-ha-haaaand~!" She cackles with delighted laughter, tears streaming from her eyes as you push forward until her back hits the wall.

She squirms like an eel, but can't get free of your grasp. She lashes out with her free hand to grab your flight suit and yank it open farther, but you knock her grasping fingers aside with your elbow. You try to pin her left arm, too, but it's obvious that she's trained extensively in fighting people bigger than she is, she redirects your grabs and keeps you from securing her limb.

She grabs at you again, and this time she seizes the lapel of your flight suit and yanks it down your arm, trying unsuccessfully to break the grip of your other hand.

So you kiss her, and for a moment the feverish intensity of the fight ebbs into warmth and soft lips. You pull back, your elbow locking against hers as she tries to catch your other hand...but then you push forward again, and whisper two words in her ear.

She gasps. Her porcelain cheeks turn scarlet as the sands of Mars. "B-be gentle with your Clemmy, then..." She looks up at you with a hopeful smile, resisting less intently as you unzip her flight suit before scooping her up in a bridal carry.

"I-I'm being carried! I'm me and Roarke's Roarke and Roarke is really carrying me! I...I...after all that I finally get to be your bride!" She wails with joy, throwing her arms around your neck and deactivating her knife, kicking her feet happily as you bodily carry her into the nearest unoccupied bedroom.

>>
>>47752870

We should probably make it so we propose to all of our waifus at roughly the same time so no one really gets to argue about who goes first, maybe have them draw straws for order?
>>
>>47752870
>"I- I love you, Clemmy. These next few minutes - they're all about you. They're all for you."
>>
>>47752922

The question of who is in charge when you're not around is the main one.
>>
>>47752952
Smartest choice might be Fatima if we get her since she has no beef with any of the other girls plus she knows about how to run a harem most likely
>>
>>47752952
Sam seems the most well adjusted honestly.
>>
>>47752952
out of the four presently, Sam seems like the most logical choice
>>
>>47752952
Obviously Grapple-chan.

Seriously though, hierarchy of who's in charge when we're not around should go in descending order of whoever is most likely to be there when we're not around, so as to mitigate large and abrupt changes in leadership style.
>>
>>47752978
But that puts Karen incharge most of the time which if gonna piss off Rosita and possibly Clemmy, it would be smarter to figure out who has no problems with the other waifus so they can play mediator when were not there
>>
>>47752982
So what I am hearing is we need a manager. someone to schedule our Waifu time table and resolve conflicts without being romantically involved
>>
>>47752982
They won't get to be mad if we explain to them that we're putting Karen in charge when we're not around because when we're not around, the two of them are most likely to be with us.
>>
>>47752922
Sure. Or hold the Waifu Bowl again to set order of precedence. With categories in singing, mecha piloting, wrestling, cooking, and bedroom skills.
>>
>>47752994
But when were not around but they are theres gonna be trouble besides would you really trust Karen to keep order after all the the things we've seen her do

>>47752996
We would need a panel of judges Us, Oda, and MASTER ASIA
>>
>>47752952
I would hope that we wouldn't need a hierarchy for our significant others, as they are all grown ass women with their own shit to do.
>>
>>47752996
man I can't help but feel that wouldn't play out well for Karen in 3 out of 5 events, and frankly I don't think we have heard her sing
>>
>>47753005
Actually, can we just get MASTER ASIA to watch our harem for us?
>>
>>47753011
So your saying you want HAREM MASTER ASIA that might not be that bad of an idea

"I..." You're startled that your words aren't coming out with their usual smoothness, "I love you, Clemmy." You confess to her. The bed creaks.

"I love you Roarke. I love you a lot." Her blonde hair spills out across the pillow. Her pale skin glistens like a pearl in the light of the dim luminoglobe inset in the ceiling.

"We'll never be apart again." You both say at almost the same time. Your boots hit the floor, clothes coming undone...

...and in a certain cabin aboard the Mekong-class Iulia Maesa, general Hermione Fairchild looks up from her newest Simnovel, Secret Flower Garden V: The Exchange Student. That was definitely a crash she just heard. She pauses the game mid-kyaa~, and looks down at her feet. The picture that was sitting there, near at hand so she could occasionally glance at it while trying to romance her virtual schoomates, has fallen onto the floor. With a muffled curse, she pushes her chair back and scoops the picture up, "Oh no no no..." She tilts it upright, and sighs in vexation. It's a picture of her, smiling brightly. She has her arm around a younger, still somewhat emaciated girl in a hospital gown. Fairchild is clad in a Captain's uniform and hat, The blonde haired girl is waving cheerfully at the camera despite her state. The picture is cracked, though, and Hermione bites her lip, "I absolutely refuse to believe in bad omens." She states plainly, and returns to her simnovel.
