Recently: You dealt with the fallout of your vigilante action, you pampered Aria and have her on medicine (she can't train while recovering), and Clair has hopped into your head to check out Dark Kat.

General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.

Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as it comes up.

Combat involves rolls! Once there's a clear vote winner, we roll for the move accuracy/crit/secondary effect. Usually it's just three 1d100s. Sometimes you can get a modifier from circumstances, so be creative! Add flair, do tricks with moves, mess with terrain, whatever! This is not a video game. Weak moves tend to be quicker.

Call me out on a mistake and receive an apology butt or suggestive picture.

Clair moves forward to hug Dark Kat. Right before she closes the distance, you pull her back.

Dark Kat grabs her arm and sinks in her nails. “Ow fucking goddamnit shit fuck!”

You grab Dark Kat’s hand and pull it off, then shove her away. She stays where you pushed her. “Are you okay?”

Clair steps back, pressing her temples with her fingers. There’s a long silence before she answers. “Remember a long time ago I tried to explain how psychics work? When we first start out, we can’t filter emotions, so the first thing we learn to turn on that filter. It’s easy. It becomes a reflex and before you know it you can’t go back. You flip the switch and break off the lever. So I don’t feel emotions when I’m in someone’s head. Except when I drink. That’s why I only drink when we’re...y’know.”

You nod. You can tease her later.

“And it’s an all or nothing thing. I can see memories, but not how you feel about them. It’s almost always obvious, but sometimes you can get a bad reading. People remember being dumped fondly, or winning the lottery with frustration. People are weird. It’s like watching a movie without the musical cues and you can’t see the actor’s face. Anyway, when she did that, I couldn’t filter it. She’s just a big ball of anger and disappointment.”

Dark Kat says nothing.

“But I thought there was something else. Let’s do that again.” Clair gives you a look. “Don’t get me wrong, I’m concerned for you, but at the same time, this is really fascinating.”

Dark Kat snarls. “Bad idea. I won’t hold back.”

Clair flips her hair. “I’m ready. I can handle it.”

You want to keep Clair away, but she’s the expert on this stuff, isn’t she? “If you’re sure...”

“Your concern is equal parts cute and insulting,” Clair sticks her tongue out at you before she steps forward. “I’m not just the most skilled, I’m the strongest.”

Dark Kat swipes at Clair, but she leans back and avoids it. She swipes again and Clair let’s her wrist get held. She winces as the claws dig in.

And this time, you really feel it. A surge of hate and anger flows from you to Clair. She bears it at first, but it wears her down. Tears stream down her eyes. “Enough.” She pulls back.

But Dark Kat doesn’t let her.

Clair pulls back harder. Dark Kat swings at her with her other hand. Clair throws up some sort of shield, but Dark Kat’s attack goes right through it like it’s not even there. Clair’s struck hard across the face.

You can’t stand by and do nothing. You move forward.

You stop at Clair’s warning. “I have this under control! You don’t know what you’re doing.”

You think you can feel doubt and fear from Clair.

You reach deep and think up a fond memory. Nope, not that one. Too lewd. What about...there we go.

You remember this old security blanket you had as a kid. You hadn’t thought about that in ages. You toss it over Clair.

Dark Kat loosens her grip, then tosses the arm away. “Gah! She smells just like you now.”

Clair backs away. Then suddenly, she vanishes. The blanket falls to the ground, and then another Clair picks it up. This one looks more like her. It’s not flat like the old one. She has her new hairstyle too.

“Mental echo,” Clair explains. “I thought it might be risky, so I used an old trick for when you dive into the parts of a brain that can hurt you. Also, way to blow it.”

“I was just trying to help.”

Clair sighs. “Yeah, yeah. You’re just lucky you’re pretty.”

Dark Kat sits down in frustration. “Look, this is pointless. Just go away.”

“You’ve got a very messed up psyche.” Clair feels the blanket while she talks. “I think it’s just a subconscious leak. A combination of all the things you feel guilty about, angry about, and just can’t let go. But I also think that you like it, in a way. You’re not willing to let it go. I don’t know why.” Clair wraps the blanket around her shoulder. “I think maybe you’re not entirely over it all. And that makes sense. You feel like life turned around way too easily for you. She’s the version of you that doesn’t open up and can’t get disappointed in life. Maybe you’re worried that by changing so much, you’ll be a different person than the one that got so lucky in the first place. I don’t know. But it’s not healthy. Let me lock her up.”

“Lock her up?”

“You’ll have the key, but she won’t surprise you or taint any good memories while you’re not looking.” Clair puts a hand on your shoulder. "If you don't do something about her, I think she'll manifest in self-sabotage."

“Would she be okay?”

Clair rolls her eyes. “She’s not a real person. It’s just a part of your psyche you’re conflicted about changing.”

“"Can you just make it so I don't see her?"

“Yes. By locking her away.”

You know, sometimes her tone really makes you want to strangle her. “Won't locking her away just be treating the symptom rather than the cause? What if I get tempted and check in on her? Will I just be over my hangups if I lock her away? Is this really an ethically sound way to deal with things, as a psychic?”

Clair sits you down and looks you in the eyes. “You’re absolutely right. This is treating a symptom. If this were something you could deal with the root cause of, you’d have done it by now. Maybe you can do it in the future, but it’s a bad idea to take something on like this with the championship coming up. To put it another way, you’d have to tear down some walls and make a big mess before you can start renovations.” You look towards Dark Kat, but Clair snaps and gets your attention again. “You won’t change or get over anything right now, but you won’t have to deal with it for now either. You can visit her later at any time.” You turn to look again at Dark Kat, and again, Clair grabs your face and looks you in the eyes. “Hey! I’m talking. And to answer your other question, I consider it perfectly ethical to quarantine an issue when there’s no current cure.”

“Well... I guess, but-”

“Good. I did it while we were talking.” Clair snaps her fingers, and you’re back in the real world. You’re not sure how much time passed, but the street performer you hear around the side of the building is still on the same song.

“I didn’t say yes yet!”

Clair looks defensive. “I know! But you were going to! If you were consciously aware, you might subconsciously get...slippery. It was cleaner. You have the keys. I can put you into state later.”

Clair looks down at her feet. “Look, I don’t like tricking people. Especially people I l-” she coughs, “especially helpless dummies, but I just don’t want anything screwing up your chances.”

“Thanks,” you squeeze her hand.

“Kat~” She looks around to make sure nobody sees. “Jeez. You’re so needy.” She does nothing to stop you.

You squeeze it gently again and get up. “Come on.”

You both go to Elite Four training area. All four are there. There’s a casual match going on between Cliff and Robert.

“Kat! Glad you made it.” Emma runs over.

“My apologies again for dragging you into that business before,” Geno gives you a respectful nod before turning to Clair. “Hello Clair.” His voice is cold.

Clair pats him on the chest and walks past him. “Yeah huh. Nice place you got here.”

Geno glares at her, and she shrinks again. “Sir.”

Emma pats you on the back. “So Kat, have you decided on what team you’ll use?”

It all depends on who wins between Robin and Violet. You have a few days now to prepare before their match, and you’ll have a few days to prepare after. It’d be optimal to have a plan now instead of winging it.

“That’s a good question,” you tell Emma. “I’ll train all of my Pokemon and make sure I have something for anything that comes up.”

“That’s smart.”

“A real champion helps all their Pokemon be their best,” Cliff says, coming from his interrupted match with Robert.”

Robert approaches. He ignores Clair and puts a hand on your shoulder. “I’d like to borrow Vlad.”

“Why?”

“He impressed me. I believe he has what it takes to undergo my special training.”

“Couldn’t we do it together?”

“No!” He calms himself. “No. My techniques and pride simply won’t allow it. This is a matter for him and I only. But I can promise that Vlad will come out stronger than before, with a powerful new move. He has the determination for it. All I require is three days. He may be too tired for serious training after that.”

That wouldn’t leave you much time for training with him after. And just because Robert isn’t being hostile to you now doesn’t mean you can entirely trust him. He was friends with Hornbeam, after all.

You take out Vlad. He zooms around the large open gym, knocking over a few training items carelessly with gusts of air as he flies by.

“Will you treat him well?”

He arches an eyebrow. “What are you implying?” His voice is deep and his gaze is harsh.

You look him in the eyes right back, instead of backing down.

He finally waves off your concern. “Yes, yes. I will push him to his limits, but not beyond.” He lowers his voice so Cliff can’t hear. “I’ve been...rethinking parts of my training, since our match. A flame needs both fuel and air.”

“Well...” you think, holding his ball. “Will he have enough energy to learn Baton Pass?”

Robert laughs. “That depends on his fighting spirit!”

You call him back and explain the situation. He gives you a look that tells you that he doesn’t care. Your job as a trainer is to figure this stuff out. He’ll do what you think is best.

“Okay.” You hand Vlad’s ball over. “I should warn you though, he likes to get into trouble. He prides himself on how annoying he can be.”

Vlad proudly puff’s his chest. Then me blows the air into the back of Cliff’s head, whipping his long surfer hair over his eyes.

Robert tries to hide the slightest grin before going back to looking upset with everything. “Yes. Pokemon take after their trainers.”

With that settled, you take a few minutes to discuss all the potential Pokemon you’ll fight with the others. You know Robin’s team, and Geno is able to fill you in on the others. Emma doesn’t look comfortable reliving the time she was steamrolled 1v6 with a type advantage. Cliff plays with his Pokemon while you talk, but he listens.

You have to concede that you’re curious. You decide to try to figure out what this mystery Pokemon is.

Cliff playfully rolls with a Pokemon. “Aren’t we wasting time? If you think Robin is gonna win?”

“It’s good for a trainer to study Pokemon in general anyway” Emma steps in, patting your shoulder ”I have a feeling that one day you may fight Violet anyway. She’s not the type to accept defeat gracefully.”

Emma’s covering for you, thinking that you think Robin will lose. You appreciate the thought, but that’s not why you want to know.

“I admit, I’m not so certain about the Beedrill,” Geno says.

You, Clair, Emma, Geno, and Cliff exchange notes and speculation. You even get your Pokemon in on it to see if they’ve encountered anything that fits its description. With everyone working together, you start to paint a picture.

“It has to be a psychic type, I’m sure. It’s my specialty.”

“But it doesn’t make sense. If it has a tail like what Kat described, and these features here, that just doesn’t happen in nature.” Emma looks frustrated. “Are we sure it was shaped like that?”

“It can happen in a lab.” Cliff says.

There’s a long silence.

Robert, who hadn’t left let, coughs.

>A Pokemon is a Pokemon. You have enough info. Time to train
>What do you know, Robert?
>Didn’t Geno fund a lot of Pokemon lab work? Press him. He might know more than he’s letting on.

“Robert, what do you know?”

He sighs. “This is a...delicate subject.”

“It’s cool, we won’t judge.” Cliff gets licked by his Krookodile. “It’s a safe space. You can cry here.”

Robert looks like he’s going to blow a gasket at Cliff’s flippant attitude. Emma smacks Cliff upside the head, and Robert looks satisfied. He prepares himself, then speaks.

“Team Dynasty.”

“What about them?”

Robert pulls over a seat, and makes a gesture to Emma to hand something over. She produces her flask. He takes a good, long drink, wipes his mouth on his sleeve, and hands it back.

“My friend...” He looks at everyone. “My former friend, the man you all call Hornbeam, was a brilliant scientist. He was a man dedicated to curing diseases. Specifically genetic, inherited ones. But funding was hard to come by. He often had to fund his own work. He was truly dedicated to making the world a better place for everyone.”

You have a hard time picturing that, but keep your mouth shut.

“One day, he confided in me that he was moonlighting for less reputable work. At first, simple healing and checkups for Pokemon that belonged to Team Dynasty. He justified it as making money for his research and helping Pokemon at the same time.”

Clair almost says something, but actually uses her judgement for once and stops herself.

“I had sympathies. We were childhood friends, you see. I helped when I could. But he became more erratic, more bitter about his difficulties. The money was never enough, and he blamed everyone’s fascination with Pokemon. He worked in a lab running experiments.” He grabs the flask and take another shot. “He described things. Unpleasant things. He said he wasn’t proud, but it would happen with or without him, and that he could at least steer things in the right direction.”

Geno looks down.

Emma puts a hand on his shoulder “It’s not uncommon for someone to have good intentions and do something misguided.”

“Hmph, Yes, well, he told me they were working on some sort of cloning experiment. Things had gone wrong. Whatever it was, it escaped. People died. A lot of people. He said he was done with that sort of work after that. Team Dynasty fell shortly after that.”

“Why didn’t you say anything before?”

He finishes the flask. “I’ve only told one other person. My ex-wife.”

Nobody says anything for awhile.

Clair puts her hands behind her head. “So what can you tell us about this Pokemon?”

“As far as I know, it’s unique. Based on the legendary Mew. It’s power is supposed to be unreal. It’s intelligent. It has no qualms about ending lives.” He slaps a hand on your shoulder. “There’s no beating it, but you and Robin should be proud to make it as far as that.”

“Then why are you training Vlad?”

Robert looks at Cliff like that’s the dumbest question anyone could ask. “He has a fighting spirit.”

I'm curious as well, but would we have the time to look for her, let alone, question her about it? If we do, maybe we can add this to the list of things to do
>>
You’re about to speak to thanks Robert, but you see the look in his face, he sees the look in yours, and that’s all we needs.

He gets up. “I’m going to visit my daughter. After that, Vlad and I will be back in three days time.” He leaves.

You’ll compare notes with Robin after this.

You get up and stretch. You have no idea how you’ll handle that Pokemon, but you’re sure there has to be a way. Right?

“A Pokemon is a Pokemon.” Geno tells you. “It breathes, eats, thinks, and can feel joy, sadness, love and pain.” He looks every bit the dragon master he is.

“Right!” Clair slaps you on the back.

You’ve got a lot of ground to cover and not that long to do it. First you guess will be Zappy Dan.

“Ah yes. His Analytic ability is quite something.” Geno.

You go over some training options. Geno thinks there’s a way you could train him so that he can automatically use Lock-On after getting hit by an opponent. The catch would be that his offensive and defensive power would be lowered when he does it. And if the opponent doesn’t do direct damage, it wouldn’t work. Still, that might be handy.

“But why?”

You smile. “It’s a secret!”

Clair decides to step away. “Let me know if I can help, but I don’t want to know anything I’d be tempted to tell Robin about.” She heads to the other side of the gym, takes our Gardevoir, and does some of her own training. You guess even she gets fired up once in awhile.

Cliff is surprisingly helpful on training with accuracy. “My strategy depends a lot on lower my opponent’s accuracy, so It’s important to know this stuff.

Dan takes to it well. With the equipment and combined expertise of the group, you can make incredible progress.

“Good work, Dan, let’s take a break!”

You’ll want to run him through some more exercises, but you think he has the basics.

You’ve got time for one more session. “Go, Destiny!”

She twirls through the air and bubbles.

“Come on, let’s work on evasion.”

She bubbles. There’s a fun little grin there too. She likes that.

With the group there, you work hard on her dodging skills. Cliff is once again indispensable. He knows exactly how Pokemon like to aim and arc their attacks, and helps you and Destiny fine-tune how she throws her weight around in the air.

An Ice Shard flies out of nowhere. Destiny spins around dodging it.

“Nice work. We were trying very hard to be silent with that one,” Emma tells you.

Destiny bubbles. Her evasion has improved leaps and bounds.

“Woah! Look at the time!” You’ve got that music video. “I’ve got to run. I’ll be back to training soon.”

You scramble out the door. Clair follows. Vance, Jeanine, and Robin are there. The set is at the beach. There are fireworks being set up, lighting, and cameras.

“Aren’t you missing out on training?” Clair teases Robin.

“I-I want to be supportive,” she says. “P-plus my Pokemon are healing.”

The director is relieved to see you arrive. There’s a punk band there. The female lead singer scoffs at you. “We don’t need this. Some make-up’d perfect model. We’re supposed to be raw, and real!” She clenches her fist. “What’s a pampered rich trainer know about that?”

Before you can say anything, the costume designer rushes over. “Take your pick. The studio rushed us big time on this one, and we didn’t have any time to work out a theme. We’re really playing this by ear.”

Someone points to your friends. “What about them? Are they modeling too?”

You grin.

He’s immediately set upon by crew. He has no idea what’s happening and just sort of goes with whatever they’re doing.

You suit up. Or down. Whatever. You pick out something with a little taste and put it on. Not bad.

Vance comes out in a tiny speedo. He looks incredibly embarrassed, but before he can say anything, people cover him in muscle-defining oil. He giggles like a little girl.

“Oh ho ho yeah.” Jeanine bites her lip.

The lead singer “Woah, nice make-up work, but that’s a bit overdoing it, isn’t it? I mean, what, do you get in scraps with Ursarings or something?” She laughs. “Tone it down, try-hard.”

“They’re real. Come on, touch.”

She shoots daggers out of her eyes to her drummer, who obviously was taking that sentence the wrong way. She turns back to you, hesitates, then touches your scars.

You take out Garchomp. “Hey Oberon. Remember when we first met?”

He snorts. He very gently recreates his attack on your arm. He doesn’t feel the slightest bit guilty about that. He sees it as two strong beings testing each other. Of course, he can’t communicate that to her, but anyone could see that he’s very confident about the events of that day, and there was some sort of physical encounter.

"And I'm sure if this takes off, down the line the new upstart will call you some lucky bimbo too."

She mulls that over, then backs away. “Alright people. How are we on the lighting? We don’t have all day!”

You shoot the video. The director has you take a bunch of various types of shots. A lot of them are just jumping around in the sun. He’s really excited to get shots of you, Vance, and Garchomp just sort of posing and looking cool. He has Garchomp smash some targets for great beat shots.

There’s a funny moment where Vance and Garchomp have a temporary rivalry over who can move the biggest boulder. Garchomp smashes it to bits before a winner can be clearly established.

The rest of the video goes well. For the ending shots, different band members get involved in the beach scenes. You pose with all of them until the sun starts fading.

Not opposed to this. Private wrap party?

See if you can try and jam together sometime.

“I’d be lying if I said I didn’t know how you feel. I want to do anything I can for my Pokemon. But work with me next time. Let me in on it.”

She laughs. “Thanks. I don’t know. Maybe that’s not the right way to go about it after all. I’d always wonder if we deserved the fame, y’know?” She stops herself again. “Well, then again...”

Her bandmates call her over before she can come to a conclusion.

You head back to the hotel. You, Robin, and Clair crawl into bed.

“So...did you talk with your dad today?”

Robin nods. “Y-yeah. It clear up a lot of things. But you know what? I’m okay with everything. I’ve already decided I’m not letting their lives dictate mine.” She has a tinge of pride in that statement. |I’m surprised you let him train Vlad, though.”

“I am too. But I think it’ll be good for Vlad. They seemed to hit it off, believe it or not.”

“They’re both pricks.” Clair states bluntly. “A perfect match.”

Robin laughs and feels guilty about it. You all lay in bed for awhile.

“What about that Pokemon? It sounds like science fiction. If it’s half as tough as it sounds, how can it be beaten?”

>The same way you’d beat any other. A Pokemon is a Pokemon
>There’s no shame in losing to something like that
>You’re sure she can outsmart Violet
>Distract her with lewdness
>Something else

Then train like shit the next day.

A battle is a battle, and we don't lose.

“A Pokemon is still a Pokemon. Beating whatever that thing is, is exactly the same as beating a Magikarp. All the same stuff applies. Besides, you really just have to outsmart Violet. I know you can do that.”

She considers your words. “Thanks. You’re right. I can’t get psyched out.”

“I can think of another Pocket Monster you should be worried about.”

“What mons-” You slide your hands into the pockets of her pyjama pants. “O-oh~”

[That’s it for tonight. Next thread will be tomorrow. Training, and unless something happens, Robin’s battle with Violet.]

So, how're those interlewds coming along?
>>
>>47736844
And I just remembered one of those had Violet and her pokemon...

That went places I didn't want an otherwise innocent piece of word play to go...

Shit.

[I feel guilty. it's behind schedule. After this one with Robin and Clair, I'm not sure what to do next.]

Thanks for running Gobble!

In what way?

Night Boss, thanks for running!
>>
>>47736864
Well, we definitely need a Kat/Clair one at some point to complement the Robin/Clair. Though maybe not right away.

Someone made a suggestion for a non-canon scene with the ditto mating swarm.

Don't feel guilty. The inspiration is finicky, we will love it when it gets done and that's enough.

[Thanks. it's more a matter of time, though. Always work or obligations. This week coming up is more sane, though]

It'll be done when it's done, thanks for running!
Maybe you can write something about the Ditto mating group.
>>
>>47736948
Don't sweat it. It's not like we're paying you for this and this is probably the most unique pokemon story going.

Violet being naughty
>>
>>47737171
I'd be perfectly okay with that, honestly.
>>
>>47736864
Robin exhibitionism, with plenty of teasing while she squirms with embarrassment and tries to avoid being caught, only for her to get caught by someone anyway. Then, depending on your preferences, either she scampers back to her room and we get some private play time with her, or she has to put on a little show for whoever caught her.
