[Temple of Nayru]

You and Lynna enter slowly, the woman still somewhat shaken from the earlier event, but pressing on with determination. As you enter... well, your initially struck my the sheer majesty of the place. Well, the shadow of what majesty it had. The entrance has some clear damage done to it, and recently. Some statues and murals look like they were attacked by a wild animal, while others seem relatively intact. Even with the damage, though, the place is beautiful. A flowing stream passes in front of you and Lynna, cutting the entrance room in two halves, the floor around it given beautiful marble tiles with intricate designs.

And yet in spite of all this, there's something... empty about the place. Flowing water the only sound you hear echoing a loneliness about the place. The broken statues warning you of monsters lurking within. And the clouds outside blocking the little light that shines through. There's a couple doors ahead, seem to lead into a larger area.

>A. Check around the room you're in, see if Lynna can spot something too

You carefully investigate the area, finding some of the still intact murals to be quite a contrast to the previous Temples you've encountered. They're more... lively. Depicting the Zora and their longstanding friendship with the Hylian people. Though... something does strike you as odd. You notice a smaller creature with the Zora on one mural, green, round, like the cross between a fish and some kind of amphibian. They're depicted as helping the Zora with something, though what it is seems to have been destroyed. It's... oddly familiar.

You also notice something shiny sitting at the bottom of the stream bisecting the room, caught on a piece of wood. Ah, but the water... still don't want to risk. Lynna gives you a curious look, then smiles. "Leave it to me, Termina!" Her hookshot shoots into the water and grabs hold of the wood the thing's caught on, pulling both up out of the water...

Aha! [Piece of Heart]! That's three of the four needed for a full set!

You flash a thumb's up at Lynna. "Thanks for that."

She giggles. "Told you, fishing is my hobby. Not quite the same with a hookshot, but ideas aren't too dissimilar."

With the item retrieved, you press onwards into the next room. There's a vast pool in the middle of it, several pillars under a set of aqueducts that make them give the impression of waterfalls. Even the pillars themselves seem to be ornately decorated, beautiful patterns all around them. There are three sets of stairs to the north, east, and west of you, the northern one seeming to match the aqueducts' point of origin.

You also spot out of the corner of your eye something in the vast pool, a bluish green figure. It's keeping still, whatever it is, waiting for you to make your move.

You draw your blade and stare at the figure obscured by the water. "It would not be wise to stay in there for long, a poison apparently lingers in the waters here. Show yourself if your intentions are at all noble."

To your surprise, it... does as you ask, popping its head up out of the water, a clearly worried expression on its face. "All right all right you crazy broad, just stop pointing that thing at- ...oh, it's a sword." it responds in a grumpy, gravely voice. It's... one of those creatures you saw on the mural. "Well don't I look foolish now."

You and Lynna give each other an awkward shrug, the other girl asking, "What... are you, exactly?"

It almost seems offended by that question. "What does it look like? I'm a Zora."

...

Damn divergent fantasy evolution.
>>

You blink twice and ignore the thought of trying to argue with it on that point. Okay, maybe there's a reason behind this. "Did... something happen to you? We saw a creature outside, a monster, it'd taken over the body of another Zora, turned it into a monster that attacked us."

Lynna shivers nervously at the mention of that. "It... was in pain."

At first the supposed Zora gives you a look of disgust and contempt, but it soon changes to shame and regret. "Of course you don't know, ignorant Hylians..." It looks up trying to come up with a method to explain it all, visibly holding back a slew of insults directed at you both. "We're Zora. Both us our kinds. We are the inhabitants of the rivers, while they took to the lakes and seas. The true inhabitants, that is. Our number is smaller than that of our cousins, and we... don't get along with outsiders very well."

"Why's that?" the other girl questions, tilting her head.

"Because you dumb Hylians are terrified of us!" it responds in a gravely shout, moving up out of the water and waving its arms. "And we just... there's this kind of instinct we have. We're territorial. Don't like outsiders messing with our stuff. Our cousins are among the few we can tolerate. We help each other."

Interesting, but there's a point you need to get to. "Then you're aware of the situation here, 'Zora?' Of the poisoned water? Why are you not suffering any ill effects from it? It seems unusual to me. As is your presence here."

It laughs. "No simple poison can keep us down. We're hardy folks." It then gives you an angered look. "And I live here, you jerk! Of course I'm aware!"

As much as you don't like its... rather crass and rude attitude, you keep from making any response beyond simply asking, "Then could you tell us as well?"

The creature sighs. "Yeah... it started not too long ago, guy with a bunch of masks comes in here and wants to meet with the Great Fairy. Brother and I kept watch over him. Seemed suspicious. Day after he left, BAM! Monster shows up and moves like lightning, tries to get to her. My brother sealed the entrance and trapped it in there, seemed exhausted, but told me he'd go get help. I stayed behind to make sure it didn't escape. I didn't hear from him for a while, some of our cousins show up telling me the water's been contaminated. Before I can tell them about the crazy thing locked upstairs, these skeleton fish come at them in a big ol school! They push them out of the Temple and... I honestly haven't heard from them." The annoyed expression on its face has faded completely now. "...they're dead aren't they?"

You look away quietly as you recall what happened to them. "...I'm sorry."

"Figured." the Zora grunts in a depressed tone. "They were good people, didn't deserve that. Was it the skeleton fish?"

As ugly as the whole scene was, you try to recall. "No, like we said, there was a monster outside, took over one of the Zora's bodies, made them look... like..." Your eyes widen. This... no. Oh no. "...was there anything else wrong with your brother when he left, like some kind of mark, or sudden illness?"

His eyes widen as well. "...he was tired. Said something about a headache."

All of you go silent. This... you just... "...do you know anything about the monster, then? W-we... we intend to stop this. To fix this mess."

His voice becomes surprisingly softer. Still gravely, but... he's put two and two together. "T-told me to hide the keys until he got back. Said he'd be back soon. He... I didn't get a good glimpse of it, but seemed like some kind of serpent. Moved like lightning, sounded like thunder. Bolted right past us and up into the higher chamber." He points to the aqueduct. "Barely had time to warn the Great Fairy. Aqueduct's closed off at the top, and there's two doors above between the stairs and the creature." The Zora shudders. "...what're your names?"

The redheaded woman gives a respectful curtsy. "L-Lynna... of Gerbora Town."

"Termina. Lived just outside Kakoriko for most of my life." you give.

"T-two keys... opposite ends of the temple. Good... good luck." He slowly sinks into the water.

You head east with Lynna, down the flight of stairs. Once you reach the next room, you come across a large wall with a mural on it. This one is far better preserved, not a scratch on it. If anything it seems like the Zora that lives here takes care of this place, it almost looks spotless. On it you can see the images of a Hero in Green, seems to be... the lady hero of the past. Lynna looks at the image curiously, noticing that it caught your attention. "Uh... know this person?"

"That I do not. But I've heard some about her before. Hundred years' past she was a great Hero, saving Hyrule with the help of two others." You look closer and notice there's some symbols under her. Seem to be arrange in a pattern of sorts. One pointing up, followed by another. Then one pointing left, one pointing right, and again left and right. Strange...

A sound at the back of the room alerts you to danger. Lynna gets behind you as the source of it jumps closer. Tektite.

You've dealt with pests like this before. But not going to waste your Crossbow Bolts on them, this time. In a smooth, fluid motion you draw your blade and stab into the air, a blast of energy escaping from your sword and striking the creature mid-jump right in the eye. Just as fluidly as you drew your sword you return it to the sheath, the monster vanishing in a puff of blackened mist.

Lynna seems slightly awed by that. You feel a smile return to your face as you look back at her. "Let's keep going."

You both move through the room, keeping watch for more monsters. There's a sealed room in a pathway close to the middle of the room, bars blocking the door, with two staircases leading down on either side of it. In front, there's a pillar with a chest on top of it. And to the west, there's another staircase leading down. Hmm.

"Lynna, think you can reach that?" you ask, pointing to the chest.

"I should be able to. Let's give this a shot..." She takes aim with her hookshot... and it latches on perfectly! It reels her in to the chest, which upon opening she finds... "Bombchus?"

Bombchus? Why would there be... eh, questions for later. "Need help getting down?"

She sits, sheepishly smiling. "Let's hope it goes better than last time." She's about to hop off the pillar, when she notices something. "...Termina, there's this small hole in the wall, and looks like there's this stone eye behind it."

...well, that's something.

It could be a switch or something. Though there is a risk that a crossbow bolt might not have enough force to trigger it, it's better than risking Lynna's hookshot in the off chance it gets caught on the other side of the hole.

"Hey, I've got an idea. Help me up there and I'll see if I can hit it with my Crossbow." Might work, clearly is a switch of some kind.

"Well... if you're sure." Lynna carefully readies herself to push off the pillar, you catching her as she jumps. "Hah, there go. Knew you could do it."

"Just needed some proper warning." you tell her with a smile.

"Oh hush. Not much you can give when you lose your grip so suddenly." she laughs, readying her hookshot and grabbing hold of you by your waist. The sudden burst of speed pulls you to the chest, where you do indeed spot the hole with the eye in it. Taking careful aim, you fire your crossbow. You and Lynna head inside the newly opened door. As you two finish entering... bars slam down behind you, trapping you two in. The redheaded woman gulps, the two of you looking around the room. There's a rather fancy-looking chest in the middle, it seems... but there's something not right about this place.

Water drips down from the ceiling above it, a small pool around the chest. You instinctively draw your weapons and look up, finding...

...a frog sitting in the middle of a big ball of... slime, of some sort.

The slime slams down from the ceiling onto the chest, the frog moving down and sitting on it like a seat, silently laughing from inside its bubble of slime. It points at you, directly, and then makes a slashing motion across its throat with its finger.

"...Termina, does this happen often to you?"

"I can happily say that it does not." You ready yourself. "Let's make sure it stays that way."
