The fires have died down from the early morning blaze, hovering vehicles drift over the wreckage firing foam from their outstretched nozzles. The building they float over has collapsed, a sink hole leading to the tunnels beneath New Prescott is all that remains of the once humble shop. The news covers it for most of the day on the local channels as your hive watches from the shadows.

Beneath the city taidarens skitter and whistle with glee. A large raft is hauled along the murky waters of the tunnels pulled by the hands of several dozen triplets. The bulky machine held in their care creaks occasionally as the taidaren technicians examine the intricate and highly precise machinery for damage. Before long, the raft enters the makeshift city, pulled across the water to a waiting area where hundreds of young taidarens cheer on their brothers and cousins for a job well done, and one of your own clone agents examines the device for damage as they guide it into its place along the driftwood and scrap metal docks of the shanty town under-city.

Disclaimer: resource management has changed drastically, and has likely gone down in many places, but so has costs. Income and costs may continue to change based on your feedback and balancing issues that may arise. Please forgive any horrible issues that may arise as we switch over to Hive Queen Quest second edition. As a quick introductory course, here are the basic rules.

Every planet has a stat for every resource ranging from 0-100 representing quantity, availability, and ease of extraction and processing of that resource, as well as a development stat that represents the level of infrastructure present on the planet. Drone population will rise automatically with the development score, automating worker production as well as maintaining a basic but competent militia of drones of a balanced variety chosen from your designs.
To calculate a planet's income, you add the planet's resource stat to the stat bonus of any structures, then multiply by the development score. Due to balance issues, nutrient income is multiplied by 1k as well, using the following equations.

(Nutrient stat + structures) * 1k * dev score + modifiers = Nutrient income total
(Metal stat + structures) * dev score + modifiers = Metal income total

The upkeep of planets and their structures are no longer given as hard numbers, but are taken from the planet's income total or infer penalties to one or more of the planet's stats. Some may have other effects or special costs or effects, both good and bad, and in general is all subject to change based on feedback.

>Photon blade
A beam of massive photons arranged in a linear pattern and emitted from a palm sized projector, creating a semi-solid line of photons that quickly return to their normal, non-massive state at an adjustable distance of a meter or less from the projector. The result is a glowing beam capable of being used as a blade. Upon contact with matter, the beam has a similar effect as a blaster, sublimating or melting the material nearly instantly. While it actually has less overall cutting power when compared to the larger and more damaging thermal and vibro blade options, the photon blade is smaller, lighter weight, and cannot be broken by virtue of not actually being made of solid matter to begin with. The blade can be easily used by non-hive life, where the light weight nature of the blade can be used to its full advantage.

>Holographic haptic feedback
With a mixture of basic hard light technology application and minor advancements in holographic technology, this new holo projector is capable of creating holograms capable of providing the sensation of touch. While the image itself is still an obvious projection, the provided haptic feedback offers a number of advantages in entertainment, usability, and training potential.

[New Equipment unlocked]
Photon Saber – An adjustable beam of hard light emitted from a small hand held hilt shaped device. The saber is capable of penetrating most armors with relative ease, although thicker and more heavy armor requires sustained contact with the blade. While it deals less damage compared to more time tested melee weapons, its small size and light weight mean it can be wielded by individuals without a full drop suit, and can be concealed easily when not in use. Due to the dangerous nature of the weapon, the user must either have extensive specialist training, or a hive parasite to assist in its use to avoid injury.

New Research Available

>Holo-simulation training
While the hive is fully capable of imprinting false memories or running mental simulations within an individual's mind, there is still some level of fidelity lost in translation. By combining mental imprinting with an immersive holographic simulation, non hive life forms can be made to quickly gain and test new skills and abilities, greatly boosting performance as well as running simulations for specific missions to increase the odds of success.

>Entertainment Holo-suite
A technology that offers no real value to the hive itself, a dedicated entertainment system built from the advanced holographic technology of the hive could prove greatly profitable during inter-species relations.

Current Research

>Photonic armor
Medium
While it is not nearly as robust as what your thinkers promise from the miniaturization of shield technology, these small plates of massive photons are solid enough to deflect weapons fire and absorb energy for a brief period of time. Less a portable defensive shield and more of a temporary deployable cover, this technology, in theory, would offer drones or agents a way to quickly protect themselves during a momentary lack of cover before the photons dissipate.

>Personal shielding
Slow
By further shrinking the emitters, your thinkers believe they may be able to eventually make them small enough to be equipped to the carapace of a drone, or to the surface of an armored suit. At this time it is mostly speculation and an eagerness to please mother beyond all reason, and you cannot be sure what the limitations may be, but the thinkers are sure they can do it.

>Shield dome
Slow
The opposite way of thinking as personal shielding, by scaling the shield emitters up further to a size that would be impossible to hold and power on a ship, your thinkers suspect they should be able to construct a defensive perimeter around a hive center protected by a powerful defensive shield. The thinkers that have proposed the idea seem to be certain in the failure of the other project, as they are of this one, and you have had to separate the quantum thinkers as they attempted to disprove each others’ theories more than develop their own.

>Complex matter reconstruction
Slow
Your thinkers suspect that by utilizing and combining advancements in quantum theory with your teleportation technology it may be possible to increase the threshold of items that can be transmitted from pure substances and elements, to more complex alloys and objects of more complex shape and size, potentially allowing for the transmission of equipment, weapons, or mechanical components.

>Advanced Psionic Reading
Slow
With your new abilities growing, you continue to hone and develop more advanced methods of using your psionic network. Your thinkers believe that with more practice they should be able to delve deeper into the minds of non-hive life, digging past surface thoughts and emotions and into more detailed pieces of information without resorting to invasive neural interfaces.

>Psionic Imprinting
Medium
The next logical step from psionic reading, your thinkers believe that if you can detect the thoughts of others, you may be able to alter them as well. Further study is needed to determine the extent of this potential ability.

>High-altitude spore dispersal
Medium
By spraying modified hive spores from a capillary tower at high altitude, the tower gains the ability to spread hive creep several magnitudes faster than any other method you have, contaminating the surface of an entire hemisphere in a mere day, although the creep itself grows at normal speed. The spores are visible as a greenish fog that permeates the atmosphere, especially around the tower itself, and is toxic to non-hive life, forcing any enemies of the hive to make use of rebreathers or air filters. The spores can be made to carry other chemicals or biological agents.

>Atmospheric static generator
Medium
By utilizing the natural friction of a sufficiently dense atmosphere against the surface of a capillary tower, the tower can be made to generate energy to feed itself and reduce its upkeep cost.

The development score makes quite the difference. Plus, despite Raligha's lush nature, you have done little to exploit it in preference of leaving the locals their space.

Have multiple stations in a certain array and you could copy our current ship's multi layor shielding tech but on a truely grand scale. Take the bite right out of any alpha strike.

>One is America's Army, the other is Call of Duty, essentially. The research is mostly in tuning its marketability.
Yes, but what we'd be researching is the underlying technology. A modern PC can run both those games, and a lot more. The "games" themselves should be trivial in comparison.
>>
>>47632903
All those defensive techs. We could make the tankiest drone there ever was. Literally a moving wall.
>>
>>47632957
>Rip Drive
Medium
A powerful, and accurate drive system, it does not move the equipped ship, but allows the ship to rip open a hole in spacetime, creating something akin to an artificial wormhole that bridges the ship's current location with a location of its choosing within its range. This allows not only the ship to move through the rupture, but also allows it to open ruptures for other craft, allowing for the deployment of sub-light craft over vast interstellar distances.

>Deep Core Mining
Slow
Taking planetary mining to the logical extreme, your thinkers believe that your hive infrastructure, if spread across the surface of a world and given enough time, would be able to consume the ferrous metal core of a planet itself.

>Gravity thrusters
Slow
Similar in function to your Skid drive, the Gravity thrusters essentially surf along pre-existing gravity fields, increasing their performance when in close proximity to major sources of gravitational pull, be it a large celestial body, a star, a planet, an exceptionally large structure or group of structures, or the core of a gravity drive. While in deep space it becomes less effective, the law of universal gravitation means it never becomes totally useless, and when in close proximity to a powerful gravity source it should outperform most other thruster designs with ease.

Available research options

>Psionic Cannon prototype
Very slow/Very dangerous
Detailed accounts of several experiments show the slow progress of Project Godsplitter. The cannon itself is highly volatile, and even the smallest miscalculation often results in the destruction of the ship, as well as any nearby craft. It can only be equipped to a Hive ship's spinal mount, and requires a functional Void Shard as ammunition. At least a dozen testing sizes were atomized in testing the weapon, and in the end it appears The Gardener never quite perfected it.

It doesn't have to be that bad. lol. The wings are totally fine, for example. But they aren't totally random/distracting in the same way that the current body scheme is. At least adding a bit of symmetry to the body colors (which can be changed at will into random things if we need/want to due to mimetic skin) would be less confusing at first contact and distracting during diplomacy.

Now before we get started, I just wanted to make sure everyone know's what's up with the drones themselves. You are no longer paying a direct upkeep cost for any actual drones, that includes workers, warriors, wasps, ect. They are all now tied into the "Development score" of the planet. You can choose to increase it and expand your colony, which will increase the drone population and with it the size of the local defensive swarm. The local defensive drones will be composed of a balanced mixture of your drone designs. In addition, buildings like the hangars no longer only offer space for drones, but will automatically maintain and deploy swarms of aerodynamic drones in a balanced mixture of your designs.

So your drone designs do still matter, but the laying of them is now tied into the development of the planet. Likewise, all ships will be assumed to be carrying a decent supply of drones at all times.

Now, writting.

I saw an idea last week for reaching out to the Pale Ceph in Union space and giving them Mimetic skin and adaptive camouflage to cure their defects as a charity thing. Should we invest in that?
>>
>>47633168
Hey boss

When is the next union supply ship coming to our home sector again?

Is it in a few weeks or going to happen soon?
>>
>>47633178
It would be better to use a retrovirus (perhaps put it into Union water supplies - it does nothing to non-Ceph. we reach more this way.) to do what we want (that also changes their reproductive organs, so the changes are passed on), as opposed to having to manually modify each one.
>>
Alright, here are my plans regarding last thread's events.
>build self destruct pods and send them to scout as much of OQ's territory.
>Increase construction of ships, specifically raiding ships.
>begin plans for an invasion of OQ's industrial wolds.
We also need to prevent OQ from attacking the union and taking their tech. i suggest this plan from last thread.
>Any ship that comes here will receive a broadcast telling them to get out of here, any further attempts to communicate will trigger the same message, any attempts to board or attack shall be met with weapons fire and reinforcements.

>>
>>47633178
Sure, once we let ourselves be known, it sounds like a great way to undermine their societal norms.
>>
We need to find out why OQ went into union space?

Was she just looking for any other hives we could have there and a weakpoint?

Or did that free void crystal send out a signal to her specifically to tell her to rescue it?
>>
Since the Valen a currently building a Gate at their colony (formerly the skyl homeworld), we should send a cloaked pod to spy on the construction.
>>
>>47633119

>>47633233
Reminder that as fun as random designs and clever ideas are we are burning precious bump limit and we'll hit it before 10pm at this rate unless we focus exclusively on the contents of QM's posts instead.

>>47633178
The value of surreptitiously copying their memories in case they learned more about the smuggling routes than Coil did is certainly there.

But this is an idea for far in the future/to talk about at the end of the thread.
>>
>>47633233
How exactly do you anticipate that plan preventing the OQ from attacking the Union and taking their tech?

From the standpoint of not wanting the OQ to have Union tech it would be better to initiate first contact and, you know, warn them.
>>
>>47633178
I don't mind selling our services for healing and upgrades

But it seems we are getting ahead of ourselves cause i doubt that union officials will allow us to offer our services in their territory without making us give them the tech base involved
>>
>>47633270
She might have tried to find a route to blindside us with. Unfortunately for her, we're almost surrounded by other civilizations and she has to go through them first.
>>
Reminder that the OQ ships we encountered last thread seemed to be prototype stealth ships.

Did we recover the wreckage?
>>
>>47633233
Here's a better idea. Let's go find her Capital planet and try to capture her. Capture her planets and resources is effectively impossible due to her tech.
>>
>>47633270
OQ was just doing some standard scouting, probably has ships poking around dozens of systems. She isn't hampered by thread time or QM inattention.
>>
>>47633283
I want to patrol the border between the union and OQ, and even if we warn them OQ can salvage their tech from destroyed ships. Also the union will probably do something stupid to spite us.
>>
>>47633330
No we destroyed them because of a union picket fleet was closing in
>>
>>47633330
We recovered some wreckage before we had to flee. But not a lot.

>>47633338
We may need to warn the Union.
Even if only as a cryptic message attached to an anonymous campaign donation.
>>
>>47633330
No we had to destroy the evidence, i would also like to mention the ships could have been and alternative attempt at scouting us, since if they succeed the thinkers will tell OQ everything they saw and if they fail OQ will know we might be there.
>>
>>47633233
>>47633338
Why are we worried about OQ getting tech?

She already has sample of unity ships so she probably already started research on them

We should be worried about where her fleets are being positioned

And if she contacted the ceph yet
>>
>>47633357
That's why i want the message broadcast, get them spooked.
>>
>>47633330
We just need to trade with our AI buddy for gravity sensors.

And then promptly develop something to counter it and park a stealth ship around him again until he notices and makes more tech we can trade for.
>>
>>47633283
No, from that standpoint the best thing is to distract the OQ and occupy her forces.

The Union is already quite cowardly when it comes to exploring space after the recent disasters, they aren't going to go stick their dick in that beehive.

'Warning' them does nothing but give them a reason to look at OQ's systems which is the opposite of what we want.

>>47633338
What 'border'.

It's space, the blink drive fucking teleports right past anything, and the warp drive easily goes around anything.

All we have to do is a) chart out every one of OQ's systems b) launch a molecular disassembler warhead attack on every single planet at once, with the warheads on board cloaked pods, to crash onto all the ship producing areas.

Then we begin operation mopup and make any exploration of human space too costly for her.

But first we have to actually view all the systems we sent pods to, which might never happen.

When did she get Unity ships? He nuked any ships that got infected and she sure as hell didn't mount a salvage op in the middle of a space battle.

You have a point but i believe Theseus already has added self destruction capabilities to most of his ships because we have researched so fast.

>>
For the time when we actually introduce ourselves to the humans and they start asking questions about the speed of our research and taking over our homeworld, What if we say that we had simply rediscovered a wild colony and took it over?

Basically, we say that we allready had the tech due to being old empire, we built up the planet because we had people on the ground so why not, and we get to talk to humans without scaring them more than neccessary.

The hive churns with activity. Your drones scurry through the Hel's Angel as you fine tune the ship's systems, solidifying the links between the human tech and your own as the taidaren twins run after them in a panic, unsure of what they are doing but concerned all the same of the status of the ship they have so carefully maintained for so long. Much of the repairs and new systems are entirely alien to them, appearing as pulsing veins coiling through the conduits, mixing with the wires and circuitry of various subsystems.

Deeper in the tunnels of your hive, Lee leaps back, stumbling slightly before regaining his composure and ducking to evade a jab. A swift kick to the inner thigh sends him to the floor.

"That's twenty two seconds before kissing the ground." Dillon says as he looks at his watch. "That's a new record." Lyle stands over Lee as he wryths on the ground in agony, and extends a hand.

"Quit the bitchin. That's better than most." He says with some attempt at sympathy. "Those little bastards should have the ship ready to go by now." He says. "We just need a location at this point, and we should be good to go crash that Union spy party."

Lee stumbles his way to a seat and drops his head to the table as he lets out a subtle wheeze.

"The plan is still to wait for them on Aral, right?" Jackob asks.

I forgot that she attacked multiple systems at once, my bad. It's reasonable to assume she's got a few Unity techs unlocked, then.

"That's the plan." Lyle says. "I can hide the Angel in the desert and put up a cloak, but I'd like a pilot to keep her ready to move, in case they start dropping nukes."

"That's doubtful." Dillon says. "You have any idea what kind of shitstorm it would cause for a Union ship to start bombarding a Valen colony?"

"You're assuming they think I can't make one bigger." Lyle says. Dillon seems to ponder on the statement, then shrugs.

"Well you still have that squid, don't you?" Jackob says. Lyle scrunches his nose.

"That little shit? Yea, he's somewhere." He seems to think on the idea for a moment as he chews on his cigar. "He's a goddamn little shit, but an alright pilot." He turns to a passing worker. "Hey, make sure Coil's strapped in and ready to go when we get to the ship." He says. The worker continues on its way, while elsewhere in a small lab, several workers enter the room with your speaker, and carry Coil down the hall has he protests with vibrant strobing colors while your speaker gives him his mission briefing.

Your hive has worked diligently on your new equipment for your human allies. Your drones have prepared a suite of new weapons and armor for this occasion, gleaming design choices from your guests' subconscious input. You have already put in the resources, all that needs doing now is finalizing the equipment and presenting them to your guests.

>Provide unfitted medium carapace suits and have them customize them

Your workers emerge from the darkened halls of your hive, their limbs linked into a carpet beneath the large, chitinous crate they carry. Jackob and Dillon get up from their seats as the workers heft the crate up and place it on the floor, and then two others quickly follow. A speaker is perched precariously atop one of the large crates chittering incessantly.

"The Hive has gifts! Good things made my Mother!" It shouts. The crates unfold, flexing open on hinges of muscle as armatures reach out and unfold, each holding a component to a suit.

"Sweet baby Jesus." Jackob whispers. Lee props himself on his chair, one hand still pressing on what is likely a massive bruise on his inner thigh as he gawks at the suits. Lyle steps forward into the large boots on the floor, and the armatures reach out and begin attaching the various components, fusing and flexing them to a perfect fit. Jackob looks over the two others, and steps into one of them, holding his back to the interface that quickly links with your parasite within him.

"So what exactly are these things? They're smaller than a drop suit."

"Yes." Your speaker says. "And faster."

Jackob steps forward from the crate and flexes the arms. Fins ripples along the arms where the carapace flexes in layers over the extendable muscle beneath. He looks over his limbs as his helmet flexes open.

"You need to try this!" He says, grinning ear to ear. "Hey, what's this thing?" He asks as he finds the small cylindrical device lodged in a port in the forearm. With a loud buzz a beam of light erupts from the hilt and flickers in the air. Lee stammers for a moment.

"Is that a..."

"Fuck yea!" Jackob interrupts as he twirls the beam in circles around him.

The photon blaster weakens armor which is useful, you need several to kill someone, the blade is good at cutting things and we don't need 2 hammers.
>>
>>47634665
The photon blaster is useful because it's balanced, while still packing enough of a punch to knock a heavy drone off it's feet, which will be handy when facing off against that jacked up Marine Michael brought along. And you clearly have no idea how those blades work.
>>
>>47634733
We don't need two hammers but I'm sold on changing the blaster out, maybe just install a standard heavy kinetic weapon.

>>47634872
None of our energy weapon require ammo.
>>
>>47634919
The other guy will not be packing two hammers, he will be packing a hammer and a blade as we've already seen him attach to his suit, because he's not a twit with no sense of a balanced armament.
>>
>>47634674
"I get one of those too?" Dillon says as he looks over his own suit. Your speaker chitters.

"No. The Dillon would cause self injury." Your drone says firmly. Jackob chuckles.

"I think you need one of those parasites to use it without chopping an arm off. I feel like I'm almost not even holding it. I'll tell you I sure as hell never learned how to use a sword." Dillon leans back into the open suit and it begins to fold around him. He jumps in place as the neural interface pierces the skin and begins integrating itself with his mind.

"Shit shit shit!" Dillon says in a moment of panic as his limbs cycle through moments of tingling pain and paralysis while the suit folds around him. The helmet slides shut as the eyes along the exterior open for the first time. "The hell, man."

"Relax." Jackob says calmly. "Just let it handle the basics. Same principals as running a PD turret. Leave the little things to the equipment."

"Little things my ass, this thing's getting in my head."

"Well yea, that's how Union suits work too, dumbass." Jackob says with a smug grin as his helmet slides shut again.

It looks like some customisation is picking up interest.

The suit steps forward, the clawed feet digging into the floor as it steps forward with a loud thud. The helmet seals around him, leaving just enough open along the mouth for his cigar to poke through. He holds out his arms and the armatures attach his selected armaments, largely similar to his original setup with a few minor alterations and upgrades. In one hand, where he once held a chain gun, the relatively similar sting caster is attached and loaded with explosive and armor piercing ammunition, while in the other, where a flame thrower would be the more mission appropriate Plasma Cannon links to the firing controls as it hums with life, the sub-brain of the suit testing its power flow for irregularities. The rest is largely the same as his old suit, with two swarm missile pods, one on each shoulder, and a sword sized thermal enhanced vibro blade strapped to the right arm and a sonic sledge on the left.

He flexes his muscles, and the suit's muscles. The humming blade emerges from its place in his arm with a sound like a tuning fork scraping along a plate. He examines it approvingly, and it slides back.

"So... uh, do I get... anything?" Lee says, unsure of himself as he looks over the suits from his place near the table. Lyle points at him.

"You're staying right here." He says, his voice augmented from the suit's own deep booming voice layered over his own. He flexes his shoulders and wings sprout from his back. He tests them, beating them with the sound like an engine's roar before folding them back beneath the layer of protective chitin. Lee nods quickly.

"O-ok, right." He says, and sits back down promptly. Lyle turns to leave, the bulk of his suit forcing him to almost crawl through the doorway despite its size. Jackob turns back to Lee as he follows the others out.

"Sorry kid, too dangerous. Maybe next time." He says.

The Hel's Angel hums to life as Coil straps himself into the complex set of flexible armatures, grumbling with flashes of muted greys and dark browns. The firm grip of the controls wrapped around his limbs are all that keep him from leaping through the air as Lyle walks to the cockpit to the sound of rolling thunder with each step.

"Coil." He says. The ceph's skin flashes vibrant yellows as his limbs struggle to free themselves from the controls.

"Yes?" His translation equipment says blandly.

"Don't run away this time."

"Yes."

Lyle continues to cast his gaze over the quivering blob of boneless flesh as Coil nervously averts his eyes. Lyle eventually turns to leave.

"Plot a course for Aral. New FTL will do most of the work."

"Yes." Coil says again, the only word he can get the translator to recognize between his vibrantly colored jibbering.

The ship's engines spool up, and it takes to the air, guided into orbit by the many patrols covering the sprawling hive spires of Leeland.

Lee sits at the table, twiddling his thumbs for lack of a better activity. The speaker standing across from him murmurs softly as it breaths.

>Turn your attention to the Commonwealth and your surgical procedure for Wise

Your diplomat drone stands at its full height in the shuttle as Wise straps himself to a seat. A large cushioned slab of curvy padding sits in the center of the shuttle's space, covered in straps. One of the two humans in sealed suits offers to help your drone in, and carefully pull the straps into place, snuggly securing your drone to the seat. Your drone looks to them with surprise as it shimmies its body into the almost perfectly formed gel padding and wraps its legs around the customized and adjustable grips. The drone chitters with satisfaction as the two humans take their seats on either side of Wise.

The shuttle quickly docks with your ship, and the umbilical seals along the hull. A cluster of workers line the tunnel beyond, holding out their claws to lead the guests down the pitch black twisting labyrinth of tunnels expanding uniformly in all directions. The medical pods are at the ready, the lid open and prepaired to receive the patient.

The pod illuminates the small chambers softly as pulsing bioluminescence grows into the veins and capillaries around them.

"I take it you don't normally rely on the visual spectrum." One of the humans says. The other takes down some notes.

"We appreciate your understanding, and letting us view the procedure." The other says. "I'm sure there are many things you could teach us." They look at Wise, their faces illuminated with the soft blue lights of their helmets.

"Ambassador." They say. Wise looks at each of them.

"Doctors." He replies with a subtle nod. "Excuse me." He floats past them up to the pod where your speaker's body hangs in zero G, held aloft in a standing position like seaweed drifting in the current. "So, how do I do this, exactly?"

"Remove useless fake skin and enter." Your speaker says. Several spindly arms reach out from within the pod. Wise looks back at the two doctors, and they nod quickly, goading him on as they hold up their notepads with fascination.

Not bringing real issues forward is worse than just offering mindless praise. I hate it when my readers do that.

Sure, it's fine in this instance, what's done is done and it wasn't a big deal in the first place. But it's a fact that no write in will ever win against a regular vote if they're weighed equally.

Mate are you fucking new to this quest or something? Multiple threads are pretty common and not a single person has complained about it. Until you.
>>
>>47636661
Only valid in the abstract. QuestDrone already has a strong track record of making sure to turn write-ins into non-writeins and ensuring a fair vote over them is had-- like that 'admit hive is immortal?' bit in thread 53.

This one was just both retarded and not important enough.

The pod's arms reach out and swiftly jab a needle into Wise's arm, he jumps with fright, his legs stumbling in the zero gravity as his body seeks something to jump off from.

"That is to prevent pain." Your speaker says as the arms reach out, dragging Wise's body into the pod as he loses consciousness.

"You mean an anesthetic? Would we be able to get a sample, to compare it with our own?" One of the doctors says. Your speaker chitters as it feigns relief.

"Humans know this. That is good." Your speaker says as the arms within the pod, illuminated by the subtle glow, unfold into scoop-like claws and plunge into Wise's skull.

"Very simple. Improvement will not take long." Your speaker says over the muffled grinding sound as the components of the synthetic eyes rattle their way down the hollow tubes of the surgical arms. "Very simple."

The pod produces the new organs, a pair of small, oblong spheres of unformed goo, and thrusts them into the sockets where the unformed cells within quickly begin adapting to the new body, growing muscles to connect to the head, and creating nerves and blood vessels to link with the body. The iris begins to form, flexing open and closed, testing the new muscles as electricity runs through the nerves as your pod links into Wise's nervous system to run a proper diagnostic. His memories pour out like water, sloshing about without order or purpose as his mind drifts freely in unconsciousness.

Please roll 1d100 to quickly memory dive and grab what you can as the procedure finishes.

>>47636629
>Not bringing real issues forward is worse than just offering mindless praise.
I can agree with that for sure. I always try to incorporate write-ins, especially if they're not exclusive to the other option, and if they seem to be closing in on a vote I try to give it extra time or even ask for a re-vote with the write-in added. If it looks like I ignored something, I honestly just missed it and am very sorry.

Wise stands in a dark room, lit only by the screens around the room, each showing the recordings of a ship's sensors and visual imagery of the battle. Others have graphs, charts of data, sensor readings and energy outputs, velocity analysis and munition reports.

"Were you briefed?" Commandant Zadornov stands in front of the screens, the hologram of the Grand Marshal next to him.

"Partially." Wise says. "I was informed there was a first contact event, and it was determined my expertise in xeno studies makes be qualified to assist in official contact procedures."

"The screens around you show everything we know so far. Our forces were under attack, and losing, an unknown force of overwhelming strength then shows up out of nowhere, obliterates the enemy, and leaves the system." Zadornov says. "Our intelligence networks are on fire right now. It won't be long until this gets out, even the Union will hear about it if they haven't already. There's no way to keep a lid on this."

"So we're going to go in head first." Marshal Magnus says. We need to be the face of humanity, not the Union. That's a narrative we can't afford to lose, especially with an alien force that powerful." He holds out his hand beyond the hologram's rim and a set of files appear in the air next to him, each showing an image of one of your ships.

Yea, but that does include recovery time. Under normal circumstances recovery is done in the pod, although nothing prevents it from happening outside of it.

>>47636951
That was a planned simulation to plan out the battle and organize the firing computer. The highlight indicated that when the ship reached that point it would be ready to warp. Such close quarters combat unfolds in a fraction of a second, so humans must have their targeting computer plan it out ahead of time.

>not listed under >Construction underway

Also doesn't Dillon have electrical implants and second heart by now, he's still at base human upkeep.

Also where are these Fleets currently statted out canonically? You can't just rely on the ever shifting wiki talk page for current status, people can suggest improvements on the wiki that aren't voted on yet.
>>
>>47637353
I think it's a lot bigger than it was back then.

We need to start building a dozen extra hiveships though. One is so not enough, and it hasn't even been built yet.
>>
>>47637288
Unless we made one.
All we need is a world with shit we could use some samples of and a batch of visually distinct ships grown just to be a dummy attack force. We swoop in and save them from ourselves, look like heroes, and discretely pick up some loot in the process.

I still say we need a specialty Hive Ship just for fucking shit up in terrifying fashion. Scary black carapace, loads of spikes, double-sized engines, and fill every last weapon slot with singularity projectors.
Functionally invulnerable, undefeatable, give it a rip drive for the theme bonus.

"They seem biomechanical in nature, if not outright biological." Wise says.

"Scanners detected metallic components, although how they are used is still up in the air." Zadornov says simply. "They did, however, provide us with a set of coordinates in deep space. You're going to depart to this location as quickly as possible."

"A small formation will be assigned the mission. Nothing too flashy, but still enough to make it look like we've got weight to throw around." The marshal says. He shakes his head as if to correct himself. "Nothing to try and intimidate, just, enough to look like we're on equal footing is all. After that fleet blew through our system I don't want to go poking the hive, but we also don't know what they expect of us."

"You're worried they may interpret a small or unarmed ship as weakness?" Wise asks. The marshal nods.

"Or an insult, yes. All we can do is guess here."

"Well if those ships really are biological in nature, even partially, that would imply a vast technological advantage, at least in biology."

"Correct, that is the general consensus of our experts." Zodornov says. "What's more, their weapons were largely unidentifiable. Experts claim they were using plasma weapons of some kind, but the range is way too long. We have a team looking into it but they're stumped for now. Not to mention their FTL is still a mystery. We detected high energy pikes from their direction, but the battle left most of the fleet blind from either damage or debris. Nobody got a clear look."

>The development score makes quite the difference.
Yes but it's said to be a linear multiplier. Either the description of crunch is wrong, the result is wrong, or the development level is wrong.

Since (90+20)*1k*25 = 2.75MN.

So development level should actually be, like. 0.1 or something, which would be 11KN, and the whatever modifiers get it down to 3.75KN.

Why don't we just corral severak stars into dyson spheres and use those as the centre engines for building the most gigantic organic ship the universe will have ever known?

"We no speak of black one! Hisss!"
"Yes! But second worst is yellow ones."

I fully support this.

Have our red hive do shit with the Commonwealth while a blue hive contacts the Union, with a green hive presenting itself as 'mercenary' and a yellow one as merchants/scientists. Have a bunch of secondary and tertiary colours mixed in with the latter two to make it seem like even more hives are out there.

The more divided we seem the less of a threat we appear to be. The only common thing is that every single drone has to react badly whenever the idea of a black hive is mentioned.
>>
>>47637667

Color-coding is probably the most cost effective apparent diffusing of our power, as we'd still retain control and wouldn't actually be concerned with inner politics. The idea is misdirection, it loses purposes if its true.
>>
>>47637474
"You want me to initiate first contact, then?" Wise asks. Marshal Magnus nods his head.

"Correct." He says. "Figure out how they think, what they eat, what they like and don't like. I want you out on a date. The Union smells blood from this invading hoard we're dealing with, and it won't be long before they use it to attack us, pinch us between two fronts. When that time comes we need a dance partner and those ships know how to tango."

"You want me to ask them about a defence alliance, then?"

"Hell no. Haven't you ever gone on a date, Wise?" The Marshal says, he gives a half smile as he closes his eyes to picture something. "You have to be subtle, gentle, take things slow." He says, then he punches the air. "Otherwise you end up waking up to something you don't recognize holding alimony papers in your face as they take the house! We're in this for a long term relationship, Wise, just ask them what their favorite food is or something and try to get a second date. We can work on joint military actions in time. So long as you keep us out of the dog house."

"Of course." Wise says, unsure of what his orders actually are. He salutes regardless.

"Our scientists also desperately want something, anything they can get their hands on." Zadornov says calmly. "Their medical technology is clearly far beyond ours. We have no idea what we could learn from even a single cell of their bio-tech, but at the same time, if we show weakness we may lose any bargaining position they may think we have."

"He has a good point." The marshal says as he points a finger to Zadornov. "We can't let them know exactly where we stand until we know where they stand. And they likely will follow the same rule." He smiles and claps his hands. "So again, just like a date. We'll sit down and tell each other exaggerated white lies until one of us figures the other out. Then we can get the real negotiations rolling, but until then we need to worry about accidentally doing something blasphemous, or somehow making us look like the bad guys because we don't sing war songs for their dead or some hogwash nonsense like that."

The marshal looks around him, and then picks up some papers from a desk off screen. He flips through several pages.

"Now if we have anything to go by, we can bet they really fuckin' hate these rattlesnake bastards we're having a hard time with ourselves, if only because they fought them like an ex-wife playing keep-sies with the family commercial fleet in divorce court. Bring that up first. Don't ask for help, just bring it up and gauge their reaction. After that try to get them to either open an embassy or send someone to us."

"Of course, sir." Wise says. He holds out his data pad and the files in the air download and appear on the screen. He flips through them. "When will I be departing?"

"Your ship is ready to launch now." The marshal says. "Get in your sunday best and show them what you've got."

Alright, if you'd like, I can call it here for this thread and get another set up while we use the rest of this one for designs and general discussion.

>>47637919

>In many ways, making a queen is like making a Vassal in addition to having a daughter. She will do her own thing and look after her own goals, but will typically differ to your authority and leadership. She would count as an ally for sure, but at the end of the day any planet you land her on would be hers, not yours, even though it would fall within your dynasty's borders.

Looks anon we this sounds cool and all but maybe after the war with the race traitor with resources rivalling ours is over? We need to get the most out of every world we can get our hand on right now, we dont have any we can spare for a daughter learning how to walk.

Your planets have some rather effective defense buildings for sure, and the fleet you currently possess is capable of decently protecting it when collected together.

More or less anything that shows up in one of your systems will very quickly wish they had chosen to spend their day punching a hornet nest instead, if that's what you're asking.

>>47638104
Yes, essentially what I have now is a kind of layered system in which you can start a hive on an enemy or otherwise occupied planet. It then can choose one of 5 "levels" of infiltration, which starts at "hiding and not doing anything" like your Huron hive, and ends at "controls absolutely everything and has infected or replaced every political, economic, and cultural figure worth mentioning" with a good range of options in between. As you go up the scale, the risks of being discovered increase, but you also gain access to more and more special ongoing operations, which a hive can have two active at once. These are essentially just areas of focus, and cause special effects, like focusing on spreading your hive's influence over a planet's news networks, for example.

After that, there are "actions" which have various requirements, and are one-time events that spend resources, clones, and intelligence networks to do something immediate, like killing a political figure, blowing up an anti-orbital battery, knocking out the power grid, ect.

Still working on it.

No we can't. Not without drawing aggro. What part of the white queen's "I cannot test it myself" that she told the Builder did you not comprende.

Metals are needed to build, but not for upkeep, while nutrients are needed for both. When I tried calculating both with the same equation, it ended up either making so many metals it became meaningless, or made so little nutrients it was impossible to not starve.

If you want, we can have a vote on laying daughters after the part two thread, now that the scouting of the jungle planet is largely finished.

>>47638269
A siege is largely meaningless, since once you're in orbit you become open to counter attack, or get pelted by anti-orbital weapons. Orbital bombardment to remove surface threats is the standard way to go, unless the surface has a fragile target that needs to be taken in tact.

If someone wanted to attack you, they'd likely try to glass the planet, then invade to mop up, and find a decent majority of your drones are still perfectly fine underground.

Shields are still being researched, and while terraforming would do little to help against an attack, it could be used to clean up the damage rather well.

There's only one thing we want from the Commonwealth.

Planets.

Like negotiating with another hive for territory.

"That's a nice world there. What do you want for it?"

Of course, once they explain how the tribute/taxation system works, and how each world pays a levy.

We can just pay in kind to assume control of the world at the price of 10 times the current annual levy.

Why recruit a levy of soldiers to train when they can get some quantum-brained, acid-glands warriors to recruit into their army, instructed to listen to human orders (until Mother says otherwise)?

Giving away planets to aliens is quite insane, but if one of their worlds is rebellious enough. They have a lot of rebellions to put down right? Trying out bug government might be an improvement.

Who cares about 'borders'? And you know that map is outdated and the hive has already claimed both Farcast and Wonder, right? Wonder, basically adjacent to the Scav fleet at the blue star?

Borders don't even matter. The question is are there endless unclaimed planets or not?

There aren't, not nearby. The unclaimed planets were very limited and we've got just about all of them now. Wonder wasn't even 'unclaimed', we took it from the bloody Scavs.

More importantly actually it doesn't matter how many planets there are, all means of obtaining new planets should be pursued, they aren't mutually exclusive.

The current political atmosphere, the obsidian queen and the crystals, are pretty obviously the entirety of what this quest is about. It's very unlikely it'll run past what's shaping up to be the final boss.

>>
>>47639225

No, they can easily just take over parts of our existing infrastructure and help manage it before taking a few ships and splitting off. They don't have to do everything on their own from the ground up, we were only forced into that because we were sent out with nothing but a pod and a thinker.

>>47639254

>>
>>47639261

Then why not just have a quantum thinker manage it?
There nothing that a new queen can do for us right now that a quantum thinker set to oversee a planet can't
We can have a Quantum thinker make infrastructure, make it grow the Hive, amke it produce fleets automatically. If it gets a attacked then we still have to send in help regardless if it's just a thinker or a queen.
>>
>>47639271
Management can be done by our thinkers, and taking our ships to explore for their own planets is just stupid, we are at war with the OQ who has a bigger industry and many more ships than us. not to mention the countless things that can go wrong for them and in proximity us, what if they botch first contact, what if they meddle too much in human and valen politics that they piss them off, what if they are found by a slave species of the dark god?

Sure, that would be true, if we were talking about mindless insects.

We are no more vulnerable than any other character in any other quest. In a worst case scenario we MIGHT just do what our mother did before us and release a daughter to carry on our legacy.

>A quantum thinker isn't any better at agency and will than a regular thinker, they just get unpredictable thoughts sometimes.
But anon, you're wrong. We specifically use quantum thinks because they can handle themselves better without our direct attention.

>This thinker is by far one of the most unique resources of your hive. With the addition of a secondary brain that makes use of quantum computing this drone is not just capable of the incredible calculations of its mundane brethren, but also a more randomized worldview. While your thinkers are each an identical organic computer, each quantum thinker is a separate entity that processes data in different ways, assembling input in ways that would seem absurd or illogical at first, guided more by intuition, guesswork, and curiosity. While still bound by your guiding will these drones are as close to individuals as their biology allows. They will often make their own tasks and goals when left to their own devices, although more often than not such idle work tends to descend into endless debate amongst each other, as each one processes the world in a slightly different way. If you have five quantum thinkers, there will be at least five proposed solutions to any one problem.

And agency matters not if we just want a planetary hive to grow and make ships. How can another queen do things better than a Quantum thinker given a single planet to govern but ordered not to mess up the current status quo without our orders.

Our daughters will have the urge for independence from us even as vassals, they will want space for themselves to grow and explore, and keeping them as thinkers will just demean them and make them hate us.

Nice metagaming.

>But anon, you're wrong.
A thinker is still a thinker. Sure, it's an advanced thinker, but it's still a little autistic brain that isn't good for anything without his Mother telling him what he should be doing.

That's besides the point, we need more queens to reduce our vulnerability to a single disaster or attack.

>Our daughters will have the urge for independence from us even as vassals
>they will want space for themselves
[citation needed]

Also, why exactly are you assuming that Mother doesn't have an urge to have daughters?

I love how you can't even read m8

The first line you quoted is irrelevant, and while the second is true, I'll reiterate that a thinker is still a thinker. It's a little autistic brain that's going to start thinking about the clouds or something if it doesn't have guidance.

We have already unlocked several different defenses against psionic jamming. We do not need separate networks on top of that.

Remember neural crystal fractals? Remember the white crystal enhanced relays which can use the crystals as fuses to cut off the connection in case of jamming? Remember quantum relays, that we can combine with Thinkers at the far end to manage things instead of psionic relays if we're feeling paranoid?

Sweet Baby Jesus it's been a long time QD! Glad to see you back! I'm trying to catch up on all of this.

Other thread man, this one has devolved into an autism shitfest.

Why would you do that.

The only way to have a perfect defense is to ensure that even if all your defenses fail you still haven't lost.

Moving over.

No, the perfect defense is obliterating the enemy before she can even attempt to launch an attack on your worlds.
>>
>>47639827
Which we can't, because one of our enemies vastly outnumbers us, and the other vastly outnumbers us and happens to exist in a different plane of reality that we don't even understand.
