“Everyone clear on the plan?” asks Griselda. The now six-crew strong team has assembled by LGA’s reserved spot in the Spectator’s Fair, where all of you were sitting on tables eating food and drinking as much water as possible (it gets incredibly hot and sweaty inside of a tank, hydration is important). You all nod, shrug, or just remain quiet with no questions. “… M’kay. Well, if anyone has any questions, refer to me or refer to Elodie.”

Regina Taney, the leader of the new crew “Naval Studies Rescue” leans over towards you. “Do you happen to know how to assemble two-piece ammunition in the IS-2?”

Iris raises a finger as well. “How do you propose the Churchill climb up the left flank to overlook Route 15? Did you want us moving towards that location quickly or should we just take our time? I don’t imagine we’ll be very fast.”

“Can we discuss how FUCKING AWESOME US armor is?! The M26 Pershing, the M4A3E8s, all that jazz!?” asks Patton. Suvorov looks at her gunner strangely. “What!? You’re the Napoleonic one, you shouldn’t even know what the fuck tanks are!”

Winona browses her phone as she sits next to you, smirking. “A couple of guys on the Skycraft team wanted to know if you’re single~!” she says in a singsong manner. OH YOU KNOW THE ANSWER TO THAT FUCKING QUESTION AND SHE SURE AS HELL DOES TOO.

You point to Griselda. “Regina, Iris. Go to her.” They both nod, quickly moving on over. “Patton, uh, we could probably discuss American armor some other time?” Patton nods, brushing her skirt down happily as she awaits her turn. “And as for you, Winona-“

“I’m already texting them that you have a boyfriend.” Winona, please. “His name is Oliver.” Winona, PLEASE. “And he’s a big strong man, who’s strong, loud, fast, and delightfully British!” PLEASE, WINONA. She holds up her phone.

“I swear to God, if you send that, I will kill you,” you say.

“Aw, it’s fine!” She raises the text, smiling smugly. You roll your eyes. Honestly.

With the Q&A done, you and your crew are exploring around the Spectator fair. Seeing as how this is stateside, a lot of people have come around, probably from nearby cities like New York, Philadelphia, Boston, and all others in the New England area. “Alright.” Winona rubs her hands, taking a deep breath. “We’re the boss, we’re the boss, we’re the boss, we’re the boss right here!”

“Nervous?” asks Stack as she chews into some pink fluffy cotton candy.

“No, hell no!” says Winona. “I just gotta psyche myself up a bit!” She bounces in place, pressing her lips together. “Yeeee, we’re gonna do this! We’re gonna do this!”

Ingrid says, “You look nervous.” Winona turns her nose away from Ingrid haughtily. “Just saying.”

Josephina taps your shoulder, getting your attention. “Elodie. Is that who I think it is?” All five of you turn your eyes to see.

Standing at one of the booths, dressed in a gray bomber jacket topped with the Heinlein crest on the sleeve, mixed with a white blouse and black shorts is a tanned girl with black wavy hair. She matches the photo alright. She folds her arms, waiting for her turn at one of the Fair’s attractions, an airgun range. “Yep,” you say. “Dix Hauser.”

“Huh, smaller than I expected,” says Stack.

“You’re one to talk,” says Ingrid. Stack nudges her, silencing Ingrid.

As she waits, she turns her head, then sees the five of you standing there like a bunch of idiots. “Well, howdy!” she says happily. She waves you all over. “I’ve seen ya before!” She holds out her hand to you. “I’m Dix. You and me are fighting this afternoon. Y’all look pretty sharp in those uniforms of yours, compared to mine.” She tugs on the leg of her shorts, exposing a bit of her thighs. “I’d honestly prefer those skirts, way more airy. So what’s up with y’all? I wanna know more about you in particular uh…" She seems to have trouble remembering your name. "... Melody? Am I close?"

“Elodie,” you correct her gently. “My name is Elodie, Dix. So, yeah, you were close.”

“Ah!” She thumps her head with her fist, sticking her tongue out. “My bad, Elodie! But yeah, listen, I’ve caught wind of your accomplishments, even hear that Griselda is having a good time too. Actually, Griselda is partially why I’m here.”

“What, really?” you ask. Really? What did Griselda do?

“I was in Middle School last year, saw Griselda on the big screen duking it out in the ITL. She had some rough starts I think, but I think she’s a good commander.” She tugs your sleeve brings you closer, smirking at you. “Between you and me, I’m actually kind of honored to be facing a Pool. It’s not often you get to do this kind of stuff in Tankery. Don’t tell her I said that.”

“Noted,” you say. You look to your crew. “Oh, um, this is my crew. Winona.” Winona smiles, nodding. “Ingrid, Stack.” Ingrid and Stack nod as well, smiling politely. “And Josephina.” Josephina as well nods, towering completely over Dix.

“Wow!” Dix looks up at Josephina, making her blush intensely and look away. “You’re a big unit!”

“U- um, th- merci?” says Josephina confusedly.

Dix folds her arms. “Well, it’s nice to see you, Elodie. Tell Griselda I look forward to facing her.” Dix checks her watch, and her eyes widen. “Aw, nuts. I gotta check in with some of my crews. Have some fun before the match, alright?” She bounces past the lot of you. “The tanks are gonna be real sad if y’all are sad, that’s how it goes!” And with that, she jogs away.

Winona nudges you. “So, you’re the boss. Where do you want to go?”

Which reminds me which is stronger? A 75mm American or a 6 pounder British?
>>
>>47236189
The 6 Pndr (57mm) is actually stronger in the armor-penetrating capability. The American 75mm M3 was designed for more all around HE and AP capability, which the 6 Pndr does not have (HE rounds were kind of meh in lower calibers.)
>>
>>47236189
Well, a 6 pounder is something like 57mm, so theoretically the 75mm.
However, the 6pdr was primarily an AT gun while the 75mm was, iirc, a primarily HE-firing cannon.

So basically, Elodie's cannon has more force when firing, but Griselda's is a bit larger and fires more... explosively.

“Aw, lookitthelittlegoat!” Winona and even Ingrid are mesmerized by the fair’s own little Panzer Pets. They petted the little beast on its hairy little head as it chewed on some grass. All that was really getting to you though was the smell. Jesus fucking Christ it smelled like something died and got shat out the end of an elephant in this petting zoo. How do children stand this!? “Heee! He’s chewing on grass, what a little numpty!”

Stack and Josephina however were busy playing around with a pig rolling around in dirt. Stack especially was taking it kind of… “Stack!” you call. “Y- you don’t need to roll around in the mud with the pig!”

“Aw, don’t be such a buzzkill!” Stack wipes some mud off of her face, grinning happily. Her uniform, everything on her looks dreadful.

“Stack-“ Ugh, you’ll just get her a new uniform before the match starts. You check your watch.

Oh shit, it starts in an hour.

“Elodie!” You look over to see Denise rolling towards the petting zoo fence in her Kettenkrad. Oh, salvation, thank you. You run on over, leaning on the fence towards her. “Elodie! I made it to your match!” She gives you a thumbs up. “Hehe!” She looks over to see your crew busy dirtying themselves up by playing with animals. “What’s with the-“

A cow moos as it comes towards you. “Er- that’s- let’s not talk about it.” You hear it chewing loudly in your ear as it breathes over your shoulder. Um. A little privacy?

“Well, I just wanted to say Good luck and have fun, or as they say in the Starcraft scene uh…” She reaches into her pocket and pulls out a phone. “… GL, HF!”

You meet at the stage. Instead of a big railway gun carriage serving as the big screen TV, a more dedicated platform for a variety of TVs was built for the Tankery matches in North America. You six commanders of LGA stand across from the twenty that will be facing you.

Pffft, you’ll need it. You examine the map once more. Route 15 is a big chokepoint. Only real way around it is either over the big rises (not an option for the Pershings, at least not in timely fashion) or all the way around to the river. Both will be impractical, unless Dix proves herself to be patient.

Against the Italians maybe, but with the German Panzer III and even short barrel 75mm Panzer IVs were more then a match for it. Especially the 2 pounder variants.

If your tank had to be replaced with america's stopgap (M3 Lee/Grant) and British crews enjoyed them more then tanks made by the motherland then you know it's not all that.

Yeah, but i didn't say anything bad about the Infantry branch of tank development, only cruiser.

The Churchill, was an Infantry tank not a Cruiser tank.

Also kill is debatable, it was more disabled then knocked out, since none of the rounds actually penetrated and only disabled the turret of the tiger iirc.

>>47237733

it's important sure (your shifting the goal posts), to show what not to do when developing a tank, (being slightly hyperbolic) However, it is true that Cruisers didn't held the line it was the Infantry tanks that held North Africa.

Crusaders (at least the early variants) and other early cruisers, were so-so or not very good.

Even the Coventer that you mentioned was never really used other then test trials. Is it important for British tank development, sure. But was it a good tank, not really considering the opposition.

> Come to their side slowly and cautiously.

“Take us in cautiously now,” you declare. Oliver starts slowing down, his tracks clattering to a creeping pace. You lean on the back of the turret hatch, while Stack pokes her head out of the loader’s hatch, grinning happily. “Hey, who said you could turn out?”

“I can’t wait!” Stack bounces up and down. Ugh, you can’t contain that enthusiasm.

“This is Serafina!” You look back down the road. “Me and the IS-2 are in position at the end of Route 15!”

“Me and Suvorov are still climbing,” says Iris.

“Same,” says Griselda.

Alright, fine. Hopefully they’re at least halfway. They should be halfway.

But as you creep around the corner, you turn your head.

To meet a wall of five Pershing tanks, with fifteen other US tanks behind them, no more than two-hundred meters away and closing fast.

“Winona, hit them! Hit them hard!” The Six-Pounder fires. The shot disintegrates against the coaxial machine gun port of the lead Pershing, sending it rolling forward to a stop. The other tanks immediately plow and ram into the back of it, clueless of its status. “There’s our window, run, run, run!” The tank reverses back around the corner, then pivots around. “A little hustle, Josephina!”

“I am trying!” she shouts. Once the tank is facing south, she immediately floors it and speeds Oliver down the route.

“How’s everyone?” you ask. “Please tell me you guys are in position!”

“The Churchill has arrived. Panzer III is still climbing.”

“We’re still moving up the mountain, but you should be able to get a decent ambush set up!” says Griselda. Okay, okay, some things are going right.

But you can’t help but be a little suspicious. There’s no way Dix would actually run all of her tanks into one area. Unless she plans on smashing you through sheer numbers alone.

And in different directions. Oh Jesus, please don’t let that be a thing.

“Griselda, we’re going to link up with you! Josephina, take a left onto Armstrong road now!” The Cromwell starts skidding to a halt, and you hear a very worrying grinding noise. The tank vibrates beneath you as it suddenly screeches to a halt to make this sharp left turn. “… what was that?”

Stack nudges your leg, and you look down at her. “That was the suspension! Remember what Oleg said, it’s still pretty fragile even with all the improvements!” Ugh, when is that gonna get fixed! Hell, at least if you didn’t improve it you might’ve thrown the track altogether. And nobody wants that. With a left turn, you start riding up the high road up the mountain towards Griselda’s position. You pull out your binoculars, and look north northwest.

And coming into view coming around the corner are four Pershings, in a flying V-formation down the road, followed by the Shermans. The Pershings turn their turrets up as you climb up the road. “Hug the ridge, Josephina!” She bears right, right as the Pershing’s start firing at you. Shots splat against the rocky ridge, shooting some debris down on your tank. Nothing it can’t handle, nothing it can’t handle, please handle it, Oliver for God’s sake.

You take another look. You blink. That’s odd, you could’ve sworn the Chaffees were there when you saw them first.

Fuck, wait, they must be taking a different route! “Griselda, the Chaffees aren’t taking Route 15!” You take another look. “And I don’t see Cobra King either, they must be flanking!”

“I see it on the map, it’ll take them ages to get around, we can still beat them here!” says Griselda. “Iris, do you have a shot!?”

“We do, firing.” The Churchill on the west ridge fires down, nailing a Pershing in the side of its turret.

“First kill of the day,” says Iris.

The Pershing’s hulking wreck slows to a crawl, forcing the other tanks to slow down in the chokepoint.

But to your surprise, they start reversing and form a strange form of defensive line, kind of like chevrons or a zipper. They cover their engine blocks with each other’s, and angle their frontal armor at a slant relative southwards instead of directly facing either side. “Oh fuck, they were ready for this!” says Griselda.

“We’re moving in!” says Serafina.

“Winona, do you have a bead on Dix’s tank?” you ask.

“Ah, all the Easy Eights look the same!” she says.

“Then fire at all of them!” The tank shakes as it fires down the ridge at one of the Shermans. This time, you manage a killing on one of the Easy Eights.

Griselda, Iris, and eventually Suvorov as well depress their guns and fire down too. Suvorov’s shot bounces off the front of a Jumbo tank, but Iris’s and Griselda’s find their mark.

Iris had actually managed to nail the Easy Eight bringing up the rear, for all intents and purposes trapping them down there.

But still, there were quite a few of them, and that meant they could still return fire. One of them, an M45 Pershing fires a Howitzer shot upwards at you. The shot explodes between you and Griselda, shaking the tank to the side and sending everyone out of their seats. The concussive blast makes the metal creak and groan. “Agh! The other tanks as well fire back at the Churchill and the Panzer III. The Panzer III wisely takes cover behind the crest of the ridge, and no shots thankfully manage to penetrate the Churchill. Though there were some worrying near-misses from the remaining Pershings.

Still, if your intuition is right, those Chaffees are somewhere. They’ll probably be southwest on Skyline by now in fact!

Tell Iris to back up while Suvorov moves forward through the Scotts and Chaffees, they can then target each other's attackers with substantially more ease. And tell the Poles and Catalina Jockeys to get a move on.

> Deploy Smoke (2/3)
> Retreat to back up the remaining tanks

“Fire smoke!” Smoke is fired off, masking your escape as you start retreating south down the ridge towards your tanks. “Uh, Suvorov! You know Napoleonic stuff, right!?”

“Yeah, I-“ She gasps. “I got it! We gotta form an infantry square! Iris, I’ll cover you, head back down to the road with Serafina and Regina! Lock yourselves up into a square with your engine blocks in the center!”

“What about you!?” you ask.

“We’ll buy you all some time! There’s no way they’ll escape with these Chaffees chasing us! Do svidaniya!”

You hurry down the hill, and you pull up your binoculars to see the Panzer III trying to herd the Chaffees away from a fleeing Churchill with some amount of success, pulling them away. The Churchill manages to reach the road where the Pershing and the IS-2 are busy locking themselves into a square, trying to cover up their engine blocks with each other’s tanks.

The Panzer III fires a blind shot, which actually manages a hit.

> KO: SGT. “BLAST” HARDING (M8 Scott “Alabama”)
> KILL CREDITED TO: “SUVOROV” (Panzer III Ausf. J)

But at the cost of its own life. A Chaffee fires a shot which slams into it’s engine block, setting it on fire.

> KO: “SUVOROV” (Panzer III Ausf. J)
> KILL CREDITED TO: CPL. “LEGS” SMITH (M24 Chaffee)

The Churchill, the Pershing, and the IS-2 are now locked in a square, with only one element missing from it.

It's also worth nothing that the Scotts and Chaffees have lower velocity weapons than ours (a 6 pounder AP round outpaces a M5 75mm's by 200m/s and the Howitzer is way slower), making it marginally harder for them to hit fast moving targets. Speed is our friend here.

“Serafina, Regina, Iris, hold back the Pershings and the Shermans.” You look past them to see the Pershing pushing the corpse of one of its compatriots out of the way as it busts out of the pass. “I’ll screen you and keep the Chaffees from plinking at your sides!”

“Got it!” says Serafina. “Let them have it!” The guns of the heavies fire away at the incoming tanks from Route 15. And when that happens, one manages to sneak its way through the frontal armor of one tank.

> KO: CPL. “AUNTIE DOT” MURDOCH (M26 Pershing “San Quentin”)
> KILL CREDITED TO: SERAFINA MACZEK (M26 Pershing)

“Scratch one! We’ll win this yet-“ A shot plows right into the turret ring of the Pershing, causing a fire to erupt inside the crew compartment. “Oh, we got a fire, nevermind!”

> KO: SERAFINA MACZEK (M26 Pershing)
> KILL CREDITED TO: CPL. “BUTTERCUP” YELICH (M26 Pershing “Atlanta”)

The other tanks start spilling out of the pass, forming up a skirmish line slowly. They don’t intend to get too close, as not to incur the wrath of the surprisingly lethal 57mm 6-Pounder gun.

Meanwhile, you’re running circles around the Square, trying to keep the Chaffees away. They fire away at you, missing every shot so far. Ha!

Suddenly, coming up from behind the Chaffees is a very surprising sight, a Jumbo not only keeping pace, but slowly outrunning them. Painted on the side is the name “COBRA KING”. It creeps up through the formation and fires a shot at you. You duck, nearly missing the shot taking off your head. That was close! You duck down in for good measure.

The Chaffees split off, intending to skirmish and pick at the sorry-looking square of heavy tanks.

That just left you with a very angry Cobra King to deal with.

> CHARGE HIM
> TARGET WEAKPOINT: - 10 CP

“Winona, turn the turret around!” Josephina swings the tank left. You hear a very worrying grinding noise from the suspension. The turret whirs as she sweeps the turret to the rear. Cobra King fires again, this time missing again, but only by a few inches. “Fire, fire!” The shot goes straight at Cobra King, and despite all that heavy front armor and heavy turret armor, it smashes into the turret ring and disintegrates. Cobra King careens out of control, stunned. “There, there! Pull it around, we can charge them!”

Josephina grinds the tank to a stop, scraping the treads across the ground and spitting up mud up into the air. She reverses and pulls a very quick J-turn, facing the tank towards the stunned Cobra King! “Alright, Winona, now, fire!” She fires again, unfortunately the shot plinks off the turret face. “Damn it!”

“It’s a Jumbo!” yells Stack. “And we’re using standard AP rounds! There’s no way we’re going through that!” Not at this range.

“Get closer!”

As this happens, the Chaffees and the Scotts start circling around the square of heavy tanks. The IS-2 and the Churchill have adjusted to use the Pershing as a shield against the incoming Shermans and enemy Pershings. Iris fires a shot, which manages a hit against a Chaffee. It spins out of control and flips onto its side, burning.

> KO: CPL. “REX” GAGE (M24 Chaffee)

The IS-2 meanwhile. “NAVAL STUDIES RESCUE DOES NOT CONDONE USE OF TWO-PIECE AMMUNITION!” They fire, which flies wildly past the charging line of Shermans and Pershings. One of the Pershings fires back at the IS-2. This time silencing it for good

Clearly the numbers game is still too steep for an elimination game then. That or we're underestimating the other comanders. That and we're still a little green. As someone who voted fuck the square, that was a mistake and I own it. Guess we gotta roll up our socks and try and pull it off in the flag match. It will be the same numbers anyways. Only problem will be that its going to be the King Cobra as a flag, I am sure.

Guess we should prepare the clown makeup and pratfalls just in case though.

Well, as someone that supported the motion for Elodie to form a cheer up squad at the start. I am okay with it. I knew we were going ro be running in tough this match. We'll need the morale, and who better to do it than the unlikely source?
>>
> “Fuck.”

You lean back in your seat. “Fuck.”

“Hey, we knew this was coming,” says Ingrid. “At least we almost split their team in half.”

> KO: SGT. “RED” PULLER (M24 Chaffee “Nova)
> KILL CREDITED TO: IRIS BLACKBOURNE (Churchill IV)

You fold your arms. “Yeah. Look, let’s not take this loss too hard okay? It’s not like we’re fighting for the school’s survival. It’s alright if we take a hit to our pride once or twice. And I think that-“

“Guys.” Winona peers through her periscope. “Do you see what’s going on outside?” You all poke your heads out of the tank.

And see Iris is still fighting. The Heinlein tanks are scattering, trying to slug it out, but are caught up by the wreckage of the IS-2 and Serafina’s Pershing. She’s still firing away. Another shot lands, tracking a speeding Scott but sending it flipping onto its side.

> KO: CPL “GRIZZLY” JENSON (M8 Scott)
> KILL CREDITED TO: IRIS BLACKBOURNE (Churchill IV)

One Chaffee tries to charge directly at the Churchill from behind. The turret traverses, attempting to beat it. Too late. The Chaffee fires, sending a shot right into the engine. But to everyone’s surprise it doesn’t die. Sure, there’s smoke, but it doesn’t die. The Churchill in response blasts the poor Chaffee to bits.

> KO: CPL “ROCK” MORGAN (M24 Chaffee)
> KILL CREDITED TO: IRIS BLACKBOURNE (Churchill IV)

“Come on, Iris!” yells Winona.

“Yeah!” Stack pumps her fist. “Get them, you pompous little bitch! Yeah!” The turret traverses around to lead one of the last Chaffees, and nail it.

> KO: CPL. “LEGS” SMITH (M24 Chaffee)
> KILL CREDITED TO: IRIS BLACKBOURNE (Churchill IV)

“Woooo!” You all raise your arms in celebration, even as the recovery crews come to pick you all up. “Get them, Iris!” yells Ingrid.

[1/3]
>>
>>47242578
[2/2]

With all of the Chaffees gone and the remaining Scott ineffectual, she turns her turret around on the Pershings. Unfortunately for Iris, this may in fact be the end. They’re splitting up, a Pershing going around the rear backed up by a Jumbo, while the rest go around the front. All of them can penetrate the Churchill frontally.

But still, Iris puts up a fight. She fires, sending a shot straight through the side of the Pershings. The engine explodes.

> KO: CPL. “BLUE” JACKSON (M26 Pershing “Folsom”)
> KILL CREDITED TO: IRIS BLACKBOURNE (CHURCHILL IV)

And that’s all she wrote. They all fire away, slugging at the poor Churchill. Their shots rip apart the gun, shred the turret with dents and holes, and set the engine and ammunition on fire. The gun attempts to rise up, but depresses down in defeat. The white flag then pops up.

> KO: IRIS BLACKBOURNE (Churchill IV)
> KILL CREDITED TO: CPL. “BUTTERCUP” YELICH (M26 Pershing “Atlanta”)

What a heartbreaker.

> LAFAYETTE GIRLS ACADEMY’S TANKS HAVE BEEN RENDERED INOPERABLE
> ROBERT A. HEINLEIN MILITARY ACADEMY IS VICTORIOUS

-

-

You all sit around outside the tent, groaning in dejection. Other than that one hero performance from Iris, things seem to be bad. At least it wasn’t a total shutout.

> - 20 MORALE ACROSS ALL CREW MEMBERS

Denise rolls up on her Kettenkrad, smiling happily. “I know you all might be a little sad that you lost, I am too.” She reaches into the back and drops a cooler at your feet. “But, I got…” She steps out and opens it up for you. “Ice cream and sodapop!”

Winona reaches in immediately. “Oooooh!”

> + 5 MORALE TO WINONA

Denise smiles. “That was a good performance today regardless, Elodie.”

Every single match even up to when they were still unexperienced scrubs, they've managed solid kills. Hell, even right now when we're all still green, they've managed solid kills--multiple kills, even!

They deserve something nice--a tank upgrade would be ideal, but even if we can only really eke out getting them a new porcelain teaset or something, we should do it.

You take a creamsicle out of the cooler and unwrap it. Eh, better than nothing. Stack and Ingrid just pick out a soda while Josephina takes some time to decide what to eat. “Thanks, Denise. That honestly means a lot. Everyone here tried their best.”

“I’m sure,” she says. “Especially Iris.” You all look over at Iris and company. There, Iris is being congratulated by Griselda, Serafina, Suvorov, and Regina on a job well done. Iris in her good grace simply takes a sip of tea and nods to them, modestly. “In fact, everyone, come on.” You all stand up, and walk on over.

Griselda smiles. “Honestly, we’ll try and get your Churchill back into working condition as quickly as possible. You almost saved the match for us right there, if- if you had a better tank or better terrain to work with I think-“

Iris holds up her hand. “That’s quite alright, commander.”

“Still!” Griselda grins. “You- most commanders would give up after that kind of stuff, after losing their entire team! What kept you going?”

She takes another sip of tea. “A proper woman never gives up on a play.”

“I should say too, Iris, that was really great,” you say. Iris nods to you, gentle smile on her face.

Griselda smiles, leaning in closely. “Didn’t you say you’d do something funny if we lost?” Uh… what. You look at Griselda. Everyone looks at you. “Maybe I misheard you…” You look past Griselda to see Yuno and Luisa holding up a cheerleading outfit, some fox ears, and a foxtail and pom poms.

You press your lips together, then give a very fierce glare at Griselda. “I did say that didn’t I.” She shrugs, trying to keep herself from laughing.

“You don’t have to do it now,” says Griselda.

“Please don’t make me do it now,” you say.

She pats you on the arm, smiling. “Tomorrow after the flag match.” She snaps her fingers, grinning at you. “Don’t forget!” Luisa and Yuno disappointedly put the outfit back into the crate.

You sit at the tea table with Iris and Griselda, taking a sip of her deliciously tongue-tingly tea. Winona meanwhile… “Winona, you look like seven shades of slut,” says Ingrid. Winona is wearing the cheerleader uniform, with the top pressing against her chest, the tail hanging down her legs, and the ears poking above her head, yeah…

“Aw, come on!” Winona wiggles her hips a little, letting the loose skirt flap around, showing off the tail. “I look cute, don’t I?” She looks over at Griselda. “Hey, Griselda, do you mind if I keep this outfit? I love it!” How does Winona do this? How does she let herself be demeaned by wearing something so… outrageous?

Griselda shrugs. “You’ll have to check in with Clara. But I approve of it at least.”

“Heehee! Awesome!” Winona bounces away.

Iris blinks. “Sometimes, I kind of wish I could be like Winona for about ten minutes, see what things are like in her world.”

“Are you sure you don’t want to wear it today?” asks Griselda.

“We just lost a match, we have another match tomorrow, I don’t want to…” You motion to your body. “Embarrass myself. I want to be in top form.”

“Mmm, that’s fine,” says Griselda. “Sorry for bringing it up then I guess.”

“Regardless.” Iris raises her cup of tea. “Tomorrow’s another day, hopefully one for victory. And quite frankly, I will be very candid, I am getting sick and tired of being half the team most times when it’s not you two around.” That’s fair, very fair. “Can we please try to win tomorrow?”

“We will,” says Griselda. She raises her cup as well.

I have a policy against answering these kinds of questions because A. this Quest is incredibly dynamic so doing one thing different won't necessarily result in another thing happening unless did another thing like two threads ago and B. >>47243539
Iris has consistently been one of the better commanders on the team even if she hasn't scored the most kills or been the most visible(though this has probably bumped her up to second or even first on the team somewhere).

>>47243704
Well, I mean I guess we know the flag tank. Unless of course, Dix throws us for a loop.

The real trick will be strategy. We have to deal with a reversed map. And a huge chokepoint.
>>
>>47243769
The Illumination Flares are really only technically useful at night, which is why they were delisted.

Though, they're always an option regardless as a write-in.

>>47243778
But what's i'm wondering is why does she have the short barrel 50mm gun? I thought German said it was a long barrel version.

>>
>>47243778
Technically, Dix and whatever opponent is always going to throw you for a loop. The Flag Tank is a random assignment.
>>
>>47243778
Could try digging in the IS and Churchill hull down at the North End of the ravine while the Sherman and Pz III take 554 and we go cross country in the Cromwell to and try to get to Armstrong Rd without being spotted then zoom all the way around to hit them from behind.
>>
>>47243805
When will we get APC and APBC rounds? I know APCR is available but those are rare, when can we upgrade with those rounds?

I mean the former hsould be cheaper then the latter.

Also to add to that what version of the 6 pounder are we and the churchill are using?
>>
>>47243853
1. APC and APBC rounds may come later though I may just consolidate them into one proper ammunition type to simplify things.

2. It's the standard QF 6-pounder. I don't think it was known for having many different variants especially tank wise.
>>
>>47243853
When we buy them. And we're using the Mk 5, with the L/50 barrel and muzzle break. I believe the Churchill mk IV uses the same.
>>
>>47243805
Well, regardless. I would be shocked if the King doesn't show up again.

We're going to have to be sharp tomorrow.

>>47243843
That sounds not too bad, kind of similar to what we did with Gagetown.
>>
>>47243878
There's two tank variants, the Mk 3, which was on the Crusader and has a L/43 barrel and the Mk 5 which has an L/50 and a single baffle muzzle break added. The latter provides somewhat better velocity, about 40-50 m/s, meaning a couple mms more penetration.
>>
>>47243887
Double checking since we could have the L/43 barrel giving us less penetration power.

>>47243878
Mk 1: limited production version with L/50 barrel.
Mk 2: first mass production version. Shortened L/43 barrel was adopted due to the shortage of suitable manufacturing equipment.
Mk 3: tank version of Mk 2.
Mk 4: L/50 barrel, single baffle muzzle brake.
Mk 5: tank version of Mk 4 .
Molins Class M gun: 6 pounder gun fitted with automatic loader built by the Molins company, a manufacturer of cigarette making machines. It was mounted on the Royal Navy Motor Torpedo Boats and in the RAF Mosquito planes, which were referred to as the "Tsetse".
57 mm Gun M1: US built version; although based on Mk II, it had the "original" L/50 barrel.

These are the variants, two of them are for tanks. Kind of like the 75 M2 and the 75 M3 for the Americans.

Also I thought we had the longer barrel or at least that is what Griselda said she she pitched it .

The Centaur and Cromwell III both fitted the 6 pounder mark 5 historically.

German what upgrades happen to our teammates tanks over the past week>?

Same with the Cromwell I. Hell the "Do not stow on dick" Cromwell is a Cromwell I in Australia and mounts the 6 pounder Mk 5 if you're looking for a visual reference.

>>47243948
Yeah, like last Quest in regards to the different variants of the 76mm M1 on the Sherman tank and the Hellcat, I don't really keep track of those marginal increases and decreases in penetration power across variants. I just consolidate it all into a standard Six Pounder gun.

Reason being is that there really isn't a point to only a couple of mms increase in penetration. Plus, it'd be incredibly difficult to track it if I were to adjust for every tiny change. Call it artistic liberty.

>>47243972
Everyone except you got applique armor, winches were also installed as standard as well. Griselda, being Griselda, hasn't settled her financing issues yet so everyone is having to buy things out of pocket which means upgrades are slow coming.

http://www.wwiiequipment.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=74:6-pounder-anti-tank-gun&catid=40:anti-tank&Itemid=58

Actually it's a litter more then a couple of mm I think depending on the round.
>>
>>47244005
but isn't that saying the same thing about german 50mm and german 75mm?

There were different types and some more powerful then others.
>>
>>47244013
Actually yeah, that's a good 8-10mm on some of those shells. Been a while since I looked at the actual tables and I'd forgotten it was that pronounced. And holy shit the APCBC is wildly different between the two.
>>
>>47244072
That is what i'm saying, that is quite a chunk of armor in which if we had the proper ammunition or just had been closer the length of the barrel of ours and the Churchill is important.
>>
>>47244065
That's a different question entirely. The different barrels actually had distinct profiles which made them distinct from each other. Variants of the Six Pounder only having slight increases in armor penetration isn't the same thing.
>>
>>47244005
is 8-10mm marginal? that's almost a inch of armor penetration?
>>
>>47244134
So this is a matter of ascetics and not performance?
>>
>>47244102
Yeah, I also want that APDS ammo something fierce. 140mm pen with a 57mm round, don't mind if I do, and a sickeningly high muzzle velocity to boot.

>>47244134
Read the document he linked GS, it's interesting in its own right considering its the main tank's gun.

>>47244139
Closer to .4 of an inch, but 10mm is still a big deal and the variance between APCBC on the two guns is 18mm, which is huge.
>>
>>47244139
>8-10mm
>An inch.

In any case, what does it matter? Are we going to start bothering Schteel about the exact angle enemy tanks are positioned with regards to our position? Do we have to start checking meteorology charts?

Specifically, this document: >>47244013

>>47244176
>>47244173
sorry, lapse of judgement on my part, I was thinking of something else/
>>
>>47244176
Not really, seeing as we've already got the better of the two, but it's interesting to discuss the capabilities of Oliver. He's our tank after all.
>>
>>47244173
Kind of iffy on APDS ammo, from what I recall the reason why American and British didn't used APDS ammo was because it was very, very inaccurate from mid-long distinces in which a tank can normally hit with just AP rounds during world war 2.
>>
>>47244139
>>47244171
>>47244173
>>47244176
It's a matter of keeping things simple for me to keep track of. I don't want to have to introduce six pounder variants which are barely different from each other and only cause headaches when I try to keep this all together for a match.
>>
>>47244200
The thing is German is not specific on it though which is a bit troubling and while Oliver has the later model gun, I'm not sure about the churchill since the mark Iv was the early variant iirc so I'm not sure if it used the short or long barrel 6-ponder.
>>
>>47244209
Mainly to do with adjusting, it's really really hard to observe fall of shot with APDS rounds because they're so fast and so small. On the 17 pounder armed Firefly this was exacerbated by poor optics and the impracticality of the weapon itself on that chassis. 6 Pounders actually had pretty good success using APDS, though it was basically all with towed AT guns by that point of the war. It was also way more common than the 76.2mm APDS used by the Firefly so it wasn't as much of a shame when you missed.

>>47244230
It mounted the Mark V.
>>
>>47244224
>>47244243
So i assume, we'll be using the Mark V as the basis for all 6-pounders German?
>>
>>47244287
Yeah, use the Mark V.
>>
>>47244243
Where do you get your sources of which variant of the 6-pounder is equipped on the tank or AFV? I'm curious to see it for myself.
>>
>>47244134
Then what about the 75mm American guns? the M2 and M3 or the various Soviet and french guns that had different variants?
>>
>>47244301
I collect miniatures and have been to more than a couple tank museums. For instance I've been to the RAAC museum where that Cromwell I picture is from a few years back and it's clearly visible that it's mounting the 'long' 6 pounder. As for the Churchill that's mainly just from miniatures and wikipedia says so, plus pictures of it are pretty clear that the weapon is the L/50 version, though it ditches the muzzle break for a counterweight or loses it completely.
>>
>>47244411
Again, I don't really worry about all the different variants unless there's something absolutely noteworthy.
>>
>>47244411
The M2 is only on Early Lees though, not something we'd run into, and after that the various 75mm US guns that actually saw use on tanks are basically the same. Even the M6 on the Chaffe is only an inch shorter than the M3
>>
>>47244432
and in your research have their been any noteworthy things?
>>
>>47244447
True, but German does leave the designation on the m6 and the m3 on the shermans though despite the small difference.
>>
>>47244490
True, actually does anyone have any penetration charts for the M6 vs M3 guns?
>>
>>47244418
That is rather interesting. since in my research it is kind of hard which veriant belonged to which tank or which had a upgrade to these things.

Does the 75mm M3 have better penetration power then the Mark V, if that's the case it it possible to put that on a late model CHurchill?
>>
>>47244463
Look, I'm going to make this very clear. Unless there is a substantial increase in armor penetration power, or a specific variant of a gun is specifically used for a specific variant of a tank, it doesn't matter.

I'm simply trying to make my job QMing this Quest easier.
>>
>>47244540
and i understand that at this point I'm more interested in finding and comparing notes then what you previously already stated about not caring.
>>
>>47244535
Nah, from what I can find here: mr-home.staff.shef.ac.uk/hobbies/ww2pen3.pdf
the difference seems to be 1-2mm with APC at 500 yards, and even then it's still worse penetration wise than the 6 pounder.

The OQF 6 pounder really is a very good AT gun, its main failings were in the domain of infantry suppression and taking on heavy tanks frontally. It's high velocity and high RoF make it a pretty horrifying thing to face in something like a Panzer III or IV.
>>
>>47244540
Yeah GS I think we're mainly just chatting about tonk guns now, we obviously don't expect too much realism from a GuP quest, or that much granularity from a quest in general.
>>
>>47244628
http://www.gutenberg.us/articles/75_mm_gun_(us)

From what I could find, there is no real change in penetration and only a tiny decrease in muzzle velocity.
>>
>>47244652
I kind of did to some degree but i can see why German set it up this way and it doesn't break it for me. I'm honestly kind of happy we get more tank battles then the last LGA series.

Which reminds me, we really need to upgrade our tank more.
>>
>>47244690
Yeah the M3 and Mk V 75mm are basically the same gun, firing the same shells. If however the original question was about the 6 Pounder Mk V, then the US 75mms get BTFO in the Pen department.

>>47244745
Yeah, wonder if we can completely refit the suspension and strengthen the whole setup.
>>
>>47244771
I wanted the camo net but no one cared especially for the ambush match we had today.

Really, I thought the Mark V 75mm was weaker in penetration due to being a bore-out 6 pounder, or am I wrong?
>>
>>47244814
Yeah, but the difference was incredibly marginal according to all the figures I can fine, 1-2 milimetres at ranges of 1000 yards or less. Though finding anything for non-APC is hard. Neither was particularly good at AT work regardless.
>>
>>47244870
I would have to disagree on that at least for the M3 gun, considering it did well against what it faced against whihc was the Panzer III and Ivs

Still the 6 pounder was better.

So in this case it will be 6-Pounder > 75mm M3 > and QF 75mm?
>>
>>47244930
They weren't bad/useless, but they weren't particularly good, between middling pen and low shell velocity, long range AT fire wasn't very effective and they generally had to close range or focus fire to achieve those kills.

And that order's pretty much right for penetration, though I'd honestly say that the difference between an M3 and a QF 75 is so small as to be not really worth quantifying in anything beyond an academic sense.
>>
>>47244987
Actually let me qualify, low shell velocity isn't entirely fair, more like (again) average/middling. Everything about the 75mms, both UK and US can be described pretty well by the word 'adequate'. They were generally adequate in any one role but didn't offer a major advantage in any either.
>>
>>47244987
Huh well that's a shame since i kind of bash the QF 75mm, now due to this i have to acknowledge it now which is weird.
>>
>>47245006
I guess though it made me wonder why not just have 6-pounder cromwells.
>>
>>47245015
Nobody likes to be wrong, but it's pretty understandable. The internet tends to bash on Brits in WW2 a lot, especially when it comes to tanks.

>>47245073
Better HE on the 75mm for one and easier logistics for two. The QF 75mm fires the same rounds as the M3, which means you can ship all the same shells to a mixed unit, or transfer one shipment to another unit and it still be usable etc. It just makes the whole supply set up way easier and reduces the need to produce all these different shell types in the first place, not to mention giving you access to the dickloads of shells the yanks have lying around.
>>
>>47245109
Well to be fair the early models of the Cruiser Tanks kind of deserve it in terms of usage.

> not to mention giving you access to the dickloads of shells the yanks have lying around.

I think this was the main reason for making the QF 75mm, I mean if America was fitting the bill due to lend lease.

Hell I recall that the british dump Hellcats off their carriers after the war because if they didn't they would have to pay for them once returning them.
>>
>>47245151
You'll find that was the case with pretty much everything Lend-Lease, because that was the agreement: If it's broke, you don't have to pay for it. For Britain, which had been basically bled dry by the war, if it wasn't needed immediately, break it, blow it up, dump it in an ocean or just forget about it somewhere. It was basically the tacit agreement of Lend-Lease anyway.
>>
>>47245207
True, though I wonder how American Lend Lease equipment was compared to the countries that received them own domestic products.

I remember that quite a few tankers prefer the Sherman over the Cromwell.

and i think the Soviets prefer the Sherman over the T-34 if only for the crew ergonomics iirc.
>>
>>47245278
Yeah, I've not actually seen any firsthand accounts from crews that went from Cromwells to Shermans and only a couple that went from Shermans to Cromwells, which generally say they liked the Sherman better, but if something isn't a huge upgrade to a soldier, they're always going to hate the new thing compared to the old thing because they knew how the old thing worked and were comfortable using it.

>>47244745
Doubt GS is gonna read this but one thing I would like to maybe see more granularity/realism in is rate of fire. It's one of the biggest appeals of peashooters like the 2 and 6 pounders and biggest downsides of 90mm or 122mm beasts but the current system of one shot per post unless elite irks me just a bit. Not enough to be anything close to dealbreaker, but just something I'd consider tinkering with.
