Then we need to establish a baseline quote length, however, a meter for the measurement of quotes. So which do we use in the gathered data? Should we just take every quote and then make the baseline the one closest to the average length? However, then you're creating issues of following quotes: What if our quote sample isn't average? It throws the entire measurement out of wack.

Maybe we decide based on the highest quality quote present? It seems like that would be a good way of determining out "1", but then we come back to the issue of 99% of the quotes in this thread being unworthy of the title.

In the setting I'm working on, a historical figure remembered only as the Conquering King marched across the land, leading his army in defiance of the gods, destroying chapels and breaking religious icons in his wake. Eventually, he found a forgotten region of the land, teeming with demons and other evil creatures on the verge of invasion. Leaving behind a rearguard to ensure the safety of his lands, he marched his most loyal men into the despoiled land to pre-emptively strike the wickedness within. None returned from that venture, but in his legacy, the rearguard established a series of fortresses to contain the cursed realm.

It's said that on the eve of his last march, the King's advisors urged him to reconsider, saying that each step into that land could mean his death.

All that he responded with was, "Then I shall take longer strides."

The words "Longer strides" are often quoted by modern knights, warriors and even citizens before delving into a risky situation, invoking the courage and determination of the much-reviled king.
