You are Kusajishi Riku, Captain of the Seireitei Court Guard's Ninth Division. The Head Captain has called a meeting of your peers, likely in order to plan the next steps in dealing with the rogue zanpakuto Muramasa. Being the only shinigami alive to have faced that sword's original wielder in battle and lived to tell of it, he may even have detailed knowledge that could be key this time around.

Several of the First Division barracks' towers are still damaged from the intense fighting when you arrive with Gin, Yoruichi, and Rangiku in tow – there wasn't a call for Lieutenants, but you figured the top officers from each Division have a shared interest in hearing what the Head Captain has to say. So it's no surprise to you that you find the rest of your Commandos waiting for your group, along with Lieutenant Hinamori. The latter immediately begins to fuss about your son's obviously poor condition, and calls a relief team in to the barracks.

A sixth man with a straw hat and a wooden badge bearing the interlocking rectangle design of the Onmitsukidō stands nearby, looking distinctly uncomfortable. A new Lieutenant?

“Saidō,” Yoruuichi nods. “What're you looking at me like that for?”

“No reason, ma'am,” the shinigami sighs. “Well, I guess... why am I here?”

“Because I needed to appoint someone and you were the first officer I ran into with the appropriate qualifications.”

Saidō frowns. “So are you saying it may as well have been anyone else?”

“No, of course not!” Yoruichi scoffs. “Like I said, Saidō, you were the first I ran into. If you suck at the job as bad as the last three guys who had it I'll let you go back to your regular duties, but until then could you at least try and give it a real effort?”

“Now come on, the meeting's about to start.”

“Do you know that fellow?” Gin asks as you head inside. You shake your head.

“If I'd ever seen him he was probably wearing a mask, Gin,” you explain. “So no. Name doesn't ring any bells either.”

“Seems a lot of the Lieutenant and Captain material's been picked over,” Rangiku concludes quietly as she takes her position to your right and a pace behind. Your fellow Captains and their Lieutenants do the same, or at least the ones who can be present do so. Across from you from right to left are the representatives from the even-numbered Divisions: Suì Fēng, without her Lieutenant for now, Unohana and her skyscraper of a Lieutenant Kotetsu, an awkwardly empty space where Byakuya would normally stand behind which Renji has taken up his usual position, Shunsui with his perpetually annoyed-looking Lieutenant Ise Nanao, the youngest Captain Hitsugaya and his fierce-looking Lieutenant Kano, and at the far left the giant Captain Komamura with your former Commando Tetsuzaemon.

Your own side has an impressive list of officers as well, though it's much more severely depopulated. Your adopted son Gin and his Lieutenant Hinamori and Seventh Division's Lieutenant Kira Izuru stand to your right, while behind you are your daughter and Lieutenant Rangiku as well as your Commandos: Nikko Kai, Mirai, Kuchiki Rukia, and Shūhei Hisagi. To your left stands the imposing figure of 11th Division Captain Zaraki Kenpachi, with his diminutive pink-haired Lieutenant Yachiru and top-seated officers Madarame and Ayasegawa, and Captain Ukitake with your adoptive sister-in-law Shiba Miyako acting as his Lieutenant.

Absent are the 7th Division's Captain as well as any representative of the 5th Division, and like Sasakibe and Gin many present have injuries that are only partially healed. Medical staff stand by in the corners in case anyone needs them.

At the head of the room stands the Head Captain with his own Lieutenant Sasakibe, whose mustache is covered at present with a white bandage wrap that also covers much of his head, and at the far end stand three more Captains: Yoruichi and Saidō from the Onmitsukidō, your other adoptive sister Shiba Kaoru and your former Commando Ichinose, and finally Urahara Kisuke, back from exile. In a bizarre move, Urahara has brought with him Kurotsuchi Nemu, artificial “daughter” of the defector Kurotsuchi Mayuri.

You aren't the first to notice her presence.

“Why have you brought this woman with you, Urahara Kisuke?” the Head Captain grumbles, sending a deadly glare at Kurotsuchi.

Kisuke sighs, scratching absentmindedly at the back of his neck. “Well, Mayuri was quite an odd fellow you see. So much so that in order to truly sort through his various 'projects' and their results from over the years I need the help of someone he trusted with the details.”

“All other considerations aside miss Nemu is that someone.”

“Very well,” Yamamoto nods sternly. “However I trust you understand the penalty if she is even suspected of treason?”

Kisuke's benign presentation shifts immediately, and his expression darkens. “Believe me, Head Captain. I'm well aware how severe the Soul Society's laws can be.”

“Then it is settled!” the Head Captain concludes loudly in what Yoruichi refers to as his 'official business voice'.

“From this point let it be known that Urahara Kisuke will be reinstated at the rank of Captain, and will resume his duties as Head of the Research and Development Institute.”

“That's well and good,” Shunsui sighs, “but what unit's he gonna command? The SRDI and Onmitsu have been separated from their respective Divisions for a century or so... even if we filled the vacancies that way how will we organize it all?”

“I don't care,” Zaraki admits in a dangerous growl. “All I wanna know is how strong this new guy is... unless my brain's finally gone to mush he got banished around the same time I killed that Kiganjo loser, so I've never seen him fight. And even if he WAS a criminal, being a lousy fighter would be worse.”

“I must admit to some curiosity myself,” Hitsugaya frowns. “I've heard a little about his banishment, but nothing about his qualifications. It makes it difficult to even consider trusting you... no offense intended, Captain.”

Kisuke shrugs. “None taken. I'd have my doubts too.”

Just to add, if a Division is in dire need of a Cap'n, I'd suggest 5th just for the irony of it.

Though, I personally wouldn't have them deployed in the front just yet.

“It's not going to be the type of fight you'd enjoy, Zaraki,” Suì Fēng smirks across the room. “He'd probably cut off your limbs and sew them back on in the wrong places, or something like that.”

Urahara forces an uncomfortable laugh... you wonder if maybe the Second Division Captain just got a little closer to the truth than even she realizes. A glance at Yoruichi reveals that she's enjoying this a little as well. “You haven't changed one bit, miss Suì Fēng! There's that sense of humor I... er... missed.”

You clear your throat as Suì Fēng rolls her eyes. “Can't we do this another time? I mean, I was under the impression we had something more important to be discussing?”

Yamamoto raises an eyebrow at you. “As a matter of fact the disposition of the Gotei 13 is a very important matter, however you have a point. Deciding where to place our remaining Captains and their officers is a distant third concern.”

“Third concern?” Komamura muses. “I know the first is likely to be Muramasa, but the second?”

“The second concern.” Yamamoto explains, “concerns Captain Kusajishi's future within the Gotei 13.”

“This isn't about the Central 46 again, right?” Yoruichi asks, arms crossed across her chest defensively. “Getting real tired of that shit.”

The Head Captain shakes his head solemnly. “As she has apparently developed quite unusual abilities, and has independently established diplomatic channels with other regional afterlives as well as within East Asia, Captain Kusajishi is being considered for promotion.”

“Promotion?” Hitsugaya asks, turning to stare at you. “To Head Captain?”

“No,” you reply stoically. “He means promotion to the Royal Guard.”

“I refuse,” you reply calmly.

All eyes in the room are suddenly on you, and you hate it.

With a deep sigh, you expand on your thoughts. “I have responsibilities here that I can't handle if I run off to live in the clouds. So until the Monk comes down here in person to explain exactly what he and the others DO with their time and how it's more important than literally everything I care about, I'm staying right where I am.”

Yamamoto nods thoughtfully. “Please do one thing for me, and say the name: Hyōsube Ichibē.”

You repeat the name exactly as the Head Captain told you, and he closes his eyes in thought. “Very well. I shall inform him of your decision... assuming he does not already know.”

“The Monk's ability relates to the power of names,” Tenkotsuki explains to you. “From what I have heard those who are 'unworthy' to speak his name are struck mute by attempting to do so.”

That's not exactly reassuring. In repeating two simple words you've likely reinforced whatever thoughts the Royal Guard have towards you, be those positive or negative. It's entirely possible they wanted to recruit you because they felt you may some day be a threat, and that possibility means that they're rapidly becoming a dangerous unknown factor.

“So, shall we proceed to the most pressing matter?” Unohana suggests, interrupting your thought process with a much-needed change of topic.

“Indeed. It is true that I fought Kuchiki Kōga many years ago, and I am aware of how his zanpakuto works from my discussions with the late Kuchiki Ginrei. It was the two of us Captains who sealed Kōga when he rebelled against the Seireitei, though at that point he was quite beyond reason.”

“The zanpakuto Muramasa works by interfering with the communication between zanpakuto and shinigami, using that disconnect as an opportunity to mentally dominate and direct those zanpakuto. I suspect he also maintains Kōga's talents for forming illusions and spiritual threads.”

“His weakness is that one who closes their heart to him completely will not be affected,” Yamamoto explains. “It is also my understanding that once a zanpakuto hears the siren call of Muramasa's voice and resists it, they can more easily isolate that influence and reject it. For most Lieutenants and Captains, this means that Muramasa's influence will no longer be a problem.”

“You said you sealed Kuchiki Kōga?” you ask. “Where? If Muramasa's doing the predictable thing that's where he and Byakuya will eventually be headed.”

“The location of the shrine into which he was sealed... let me think... it would be a suburb of Tokyo now.”

“It's Karakura town, isn't it?” Yoruichi sighs. “Why are all of the dangerous things sealed in Karakura town, anyway?”

“I believe you may be right,” the Head Captain admits. “He may indeed be sealed somewhere on the outskirts of Karakura town.”

“Ichigo's family and friends may be in danger,” Rukia whispers. “What are we waiting for, Captain?”

“One more thing,” you reply, loudly enough for the other officers to hear. “It's about a theory my sword had about how Muramasa's sustained himself. He was definitely feeding on hollows all this time, which means he's probably quite unstable.”

“That fits,” a familiar voice agrees as Haineko manifests at Rangiku's side. “He seemed increasingly agitated as his plan collapsed... your sheathes are different, Captain.”

Sure enough, when you look down Tenkotsuki's sheath is now made from reddish burled wood with creamy-colored inclusions, while Kobara no Tachi's sheath has been replaced by red and black lacquer in a style more appropriate to the Ryukyus.

“My swords are having a good day,” you admit. “It happens. But the news about Muramasa gets worse: Tenkosuki believes he may have absorbed something a little more alien, and much more dangerous.”

“Whoever else goes, I need to go as well."

"Are you implying he has somehow gained even a modicum of divine-based power?" Yamamoto demands.

Shinsō chuckles. "Cool use of the word modicum."

"Could we not?" Gin sighs. "I'm afraid I'm quite out of the mood."

“I'll take care of that,” you reply quietly.

Yamamoto looks at you skeptically. “Are you aware what you are saying?”

“I am,” you insist. “I've got it. Don't even worry.”

“How?” he presses. “I worry. It is my job to worry.”

“Easy,” you explain. “I'll burn him until there's not even ashes left. I know precisely how to do it.”

The Head Captain contemplates your words, and more importantly the confidence behind them. He probably realizes that you have a very good reason not to tell him anything about how you came by that confidence, and eventually comes to the conclusion that it may be best not to ask.

“Very well. Eleventh Division and Ninth Division will take the lead on this action, with any other Captains or Lieutenants who desire it joining as they see fit,” Yamamoto orders. “Any shinigami aside from those present may not be able to resist Muramasa's influence, so in order to minimize casualties the bulk of the Divisions will remain here.”

The doors slam open at the far end of the room, and a familiar young woman barges into the meeting.

“Where is he, Riku?” Tatsuki demands, passing Captains and Lieutenants by as if they weren't there.

You sigh heavily. “Tatsuki, now's not a good time. Can this wait?”

“No!” she snarls. “Where'd Ichigo disappear to?”

“What the hell are you...” you frown, extending your senses to find Ichigo's presence. Strangely, you can't seem to find him.

“Huh. That's weird.”

“So you don't know where he went?”

You cast a glance at Urahara, who raises his hands in defense. “Hey, it's not me this time. I've got no idea.”

Honestly you're not sure what could have happened to him. You're vaguely aware that Masaki escorted Ishida and Yasutora back to the living world, so you're not sure where Ichigo could have gone if not with them. It doesn't really make sense.

“So where did you last see him,” you ask, “and why is it you'd imagine I knew any more than you?”

“Because you sent one of your subordinates to get him!” she insists. “He was wearing the sleeveless uniform your Division usually does.”

“I didn't send for him,” you frown. “So he's with a stranger?”

“Describe the man who came for Ichigo,” Yoruichi tells her. “What did he look like, what did his sword look like, that sort of thing.”

“Well he was blonde, kind of wore it in a bob,” Tatsuki replies, struggling to remember details of a man she clearly didn't consider to be important. “He was kinda tall and lanky, and the crossguard of his sword looked like... an hourglass, I think? Something like that.”

“Did this man have like the biggest fucking teeth in the damn world?” Yoruichi asks, clearly thinking the same thing you did. “We're talking creepy big?”

“And every time he smiles it makes you feel he's going for your jugular?” Tatsuki asks. “Yeah, that's the guy!”

“I do not know of anyone in our Division who matches those descriptions,” Rukia mutters behind you.

“God... DAMN it,” you hiss, “I do NOT have time for this.”

“Rukia.”

Your junior officer starts. “Yes, Captain Kusajishi?”

“Take Tatsuki back to the living world and inform Kurosaki Isshin and Kurosaki Masaki that heir son is in the company of a man named Hirako Shinji, and that he is likely receiving training of some sort.”

“Isshin too?” she asks, confused at your orders. “But that...”

“Just carry out my orders,” you interrupt. “I'll explain later.”

“Right then, ma'am,” she nods.

“I'll keep you informed, now go.”

Rukia quickly leads Tatsuki out of the meeting hall, while Sasakibe also leaves to arrange official transit through the Senkaimon. The muttering between Captains and Lieutenants seems to die down, and you notice in particular that Yoruichi, Suì Fēng, and Kisuke have all been discussing something amongst themselves.

“That seems to confirm our business,” the Head Captain announces. “All officers wishing to participate in countering Muramasa please report to the Ninth Division. Captain Urahara, please inform us the instant Muramasa's reiatsu appears in the living world. Captain Shiba, please prepare a spatial freeze on the area around the north side of Karakura town and prepare for intense spiritual combat. Protecting the souls of the living is a top priority.”

You give a simple nod to Rangiku, who takes your remaining Commandos back to the barracks to coordinate preparations for your assault on Muramasa in the living world. They don't need you to order them at this point, they know perfectly well what they're doing. Hisagi however is intercepted by Suì Fēng, who he follows outside. Strange, that, but it probably doesn't concern you.

The one Captain who seems to have stayed for a reason is Komamura, who looks straight at you before frowning as your eyes meet.

After a few moments he waves Tetsuzaemon off, and heads for you.

“Tetsuzaemon suggested several times that I should speak with you, Captain,” he greets you sternly. “So after that business with Tenken I decided perhaps he had a point.

Wait, hang on. You're a little confused, having missed literally every interaction Komamura has had with his sword since this whole series of events was set in motion. “What thing with Tenken?”

“He cut me down effortlessly on the night Muramasa declared his little war,” Komamura explains. “You were there. It happened practically in front of you.”

“I was a little busy repelling a mental invader,” you explain, “so I had no idea how the fight went. Why should that concern you?”

“Lately it feels like my combat abilities are far too poor for a Captain,” he admits solemnly. “I am beginning to have doubts.”

You nod in quiet affirmation. “It takes a lot to admit something like that, mostly to yourself. But still, what do you think you could do better? You have Bankai, your reiatsu is fair enough, and your physical strength's impressive. What makes you think you come up short?”

“Because my sword simply cannot connect with my enemy,” he explains. “In our fight I felt helpless as an infant, and even when Tōsen was struck down I could do nothing. When my Bankai was turned against me I had no recourse.”

“Perhaps I rely too heavily on raw strength, perhaps my understanding of things is lacking in general,” he concludes. “I am not sure which.”

“Are you fishing for advice here?”

“Possibly.”

You sigh, mulling over your words as carefully as you ever do. “You're not actually a very good fighter.”

“Come again?”

“I mean you definitely have the strength to make use of hakuda, and you have to be able to use kidō or you wouldn't be a Captain. It just seems like you... you know. Don't. Instead it feels like you rely on landing a single hit that will immediately kill your opponent, which when your opponent is as fast as I am or as resilient as an arrancar usually is won't happen as reliably.”

“You also manifest Tenken at a distance, too long before the actual strike: that makes it really easy for someone to dodge. Not to mention the glaring weakness of your Bankai transferring damage to you.”

Komamura is silent for several long seconds, and until he speaks you're not sure what's going to come out of his mouth: gratitude or exasperation. “You don't hold back, do you.”

“Not in my nature,” you admit, “and it doesn't help anyone anyway.”

You draw Tenkotsuki from her new amboyna-burl sheath and demonstrate a few sweeping kata, interspersed with phantom strikes with your feet and fists before sheathing her once more. “Not to sound conceited, but you really need to come up with a comprehensive fighting system that takes best use of all of your skills as well as covering for your own limitations. The same way I have with my own sword.”

“I can see why Matsumoto grew so quickly,” Komamura grins, or at least you think that's what a wry grin looks like on a wolf's face. “You must have been a demanding teacher. Completely insensitive.”

“Not often,” Tenkotsuki observes. “Mostly you are as demanding as he says, you simply surround yourself with those who can meet your demands. So it does not seem that way.”

“She's right you know,” Rosa agrees.

You smack the side of your head, prompting a confused look from your fellow Captain.

“Look, I know it's been bugging you,” you continue, “and there's no easy way to bring it up... so are you still bothered by Tōsen?”

“I am.”

“Hey Riku,” Yoruichi muses, “doesn't that sound a lot like the first assassination mission I sent you on?” All eyes turn to your wife.“Was the officer's name... Seta? Really low seat?"All eyes turn to you. “Seta Hiko, Twentieth Seat,” Lieutenant Kurotsuchi confirms. “I believe the optimal word would be awkward?” You look up to see that Komamura has departed abruptly, no doubt in shock that the defection and death of a man he considered a friend was due entirely to a misplaced sense of vengeance. “Awkward” doesn't really seem to begin to describe that the Captain must be feeling right now.

“Let's compare notes,” you offer. “What about the man did you connect with? What was he like when you knew him?”

Komamura takes a moment to collect his thoughts. “When I first met him he was training at the Academy. He liked to train in private, same as I did, and we ended up sharing a secluded spot. He didn't judge me by my appearance at all, and he spoke such idealistic words about “justice”. His sincerity was what stayed with me.”

“And his philosophy about fearing his own sword?”

“Coming from him,” Komamura admits, “it seemed so genuine.”

“Did he ever tell you why he became a shinigami in the first place?” you ask, now honestly curious how well he even knew the man.

“He told me he wished to honor his friend,” Komamura explains. “A young woman who became a shinigami, and was killed by her husband, or so he told me.”

Oh.

That.

“We both now know that I killed that man, a long time ago,” you remind Komamura. “It seems increasingly like a misplaced sense of vengeance drove him from the beginning.”

“That it does,” he agrees. “I still have trouble believing the discrepancy, that a man who I admired for his sense of justice could be so blinded by anger.”

“Admittedly it's partly the fault of the Central 46,” you offer quietly. “If they were more competent as adjudicators they wouldn't need to resort to assassination so often.”

But because of the anger over that loss, and the Central 46's apparent failure to do anything about it, his sense of purpose became twisted. And it was those strong feelings that Aizen no doubt manipulated. He lost sight of his purpose, and became a willing pawn in Aizen's plot.”

“We may never really know for sure, since this is all speculation, but it IS a lesson to be learned. His failure only serves to remind me why I'm doing all this: to prevent the sort of suffering that twisted your friend and robbed him of his sense of meaning in life. Not to mention that if there were an actual judicial system Yoruichi could stop handling the assassinations.”

“Why does she agree to that, exactly?” Komamura asks thoughtfully. “I always assumed she was Kaname's opposite, killing driven by a false sense of justice.”

“She still kind of is,” you smirk. “She doesn't exactly enjoy it you know, she does it because it's a job that in the current system needs to be done... and she insists on exercising personal oversight. Were you aware that she picks and chooses which assassination orders to accept?”

“I was not.”

You nod. “Sometimes she sends the orders back to the Central 46 due to the absence of a sufficient case, instead choosing arrest.”

“You seem quite fond of her,” Komamura observes.

You smile to yourself. “You're not wrong, Sajin. Fancy that, right? I have friends and family, almost like I'm a normal person.”

“You know,” the giant Captain begins, “Tetsuzaemon was right. As abrasive as you can be a times, and as much as I disagree with some of your decisions, it's clear that your heart is not as weak as Kaname's was. And I'm certain that it's in the right place.”

“Perhaps...”

A ringing from your pants interrupts the moment, and you notice a black butterfly flutter next to Komamura's head.

“Yeah?” you demand when you flip your denreishinki open. “What's going on?”

“It's Urahara,” the voice on the other line greets you. “We've made contact with Muramasa. He's in Karakura town.”

Great. Your condition isn't at peak yet, but it seems like Muramasa has chosen his moment to act.

“It'll have to wait,” you tell Komamura with a curt nod. “Now you'll get to see the side of my heart I reserve for those who threaten what I cherish.”

“If you don't mind I would like a chance to spar against you some time,” Komamura asks, “when this is all over.”

“Sure,” you agree. “Any time Zaraki's not already trying his luck.”

Before leaving for the living world you shroud yourself with Bakudō #26: Kyokkō, hoping it will give you a strategic edge. Then you rip open a garganta and step through, emerging somewhere in the wooded hills on the north edge of Karakura town. You immediately sense there's been a fight here, and head towards the aftermath.

On the ground lie Yasutora Sado and Ishida Uryū, both having clearly been felled by a much stronger opponent. There are no signs that Ishida was even able to fight back, and Sado's right arm has been largely reduced to splinters and pulp. Or at least that's how it appears to you through the thin veneer of golden-orange energy projected over it in an elongated field.

Near the two humans kneels a young girl with brilliant blonde hair: one of Tatsuki's friends from school, the one who got shot with a mind-controlling seed by a hollow not long before Ichigo fought that Gillian. She seems too intent to notice you even were it not for the spell, and you take a moment to watch.

Sado's mutilated arm slowly begins to rebuild itself. Her power is healing? No... it's not healing at all. The way it's moving and the form it takes is completely wrong, it's shaping the matter itself. It's literally reversing the wound, to a point where it's as if the initial injury never happened in the first place.

She must have heard the gasp, because she cranes her head and looks for the source of the sound.

“Who's there?” she demands in a quavering, uncertain voice. “If you're there, show yourself!”
>1/2
>>
>>47140273
You peel back part of your disguise, prompting a surprised yelp.

“You... your name was Orihime, wasn't it?”

“Yes,” she nods. “And you were Kusajishi?”

How does she even remember you? Ichigo's classmates were supposed to have mostly had their memories of you and Rukia wiped. Is it possible... no, that's the only explanation. Her own abilities must have unconsciously reversed her own mental state to a point before her memory was altered.

You sense a battle is brewing between Byakuya and an unfamiliar shinigami, which must be the senior Kuchiki freed by Muramasa. Other shinigami are arriving as well, and you can feel the world around you strain from the force of dozens if not hundreds of hollows pushing through the dangai to converge on the battlefield.

“Those powers,” Tenkotsuki mutters. “What she is doing defies the limits set for mere mortals. How is such a thing even possible?”

“I don't know,” you frown, “but as soon as Muramasa's dead I think we need to find out.”

"Hm?" the strange girl with the impossible ability looks at you in blissful ignorance. "Are you talking to me?"

>>47140322
I'm sorry you felt that way, but let's face it. Suddenly discovering Orihime's abilities IC and recognizing them for what they are? Straight from the mouth of a semi-divine being, who says that this should literally be impossible?

Time manipulation has always been broken and in a quest where divine beings are looking in she would get the wrong type of attention.

was her healing power of divine origin? Because For both Riku and Tenkotsuki to recognize it at the same time means that something serious has gone down in the divinity department 2 floors above heaven.
>>
>>47140475
There's a Shinto god for practically everything. Can't remember the relevant name off the top of my head though.

A few examples of the sort of detail that's already there in the narrative: look at the relationships between the natures each Shunkou user possesses, taken from the traditional Chinese elements. To some degree it mirrors their own interactions and characteristics. Similarly consider the fact that there "Aizen" is the Japanese name for a Buddhist Wisdom King. Some (though not all) of the imagery associated with Aizen Myō-ō actually suits Aizen the character. Other similar characteristics and references apply to other characters in SSQ as well.

So a lot of it is shit you may or may not even notice until it becomes relevant.
>>

"Metal", and it's not even technically an "element" in the western sense nor does it translate well. It's extremely complicated and has been interpreted differently by various sources for centuries.

This IS a decent reference image, but the rationale behind specific materials and phenomena being categorized is messy as shit. If memory serves (which is an assumption I worked off of), "Wind" falls under "Wood", "Lightning" actually falls under "Water", and "Ice" falls under "Metal" (the numbing effect from Riku's shunkou variant).

It's not STRICT, as Riku at no point literally destroyed Sui Feng nor does Yoruichi actually kill her little brother, but in less literal ways they fit.
>>
>>47140867
>insulting cycle
so much kek
>>
>>47140949
Actually Lightning falls under metal.
>>
>>47140949
>>47140980
Wasn't it actually weirdly split?

Like metal can call lightning but water had alot to do with storms too so they also call lightning

Same with winds, it "belongs to wood" but water had some aspects as well
>>
>>47141030
It's vague and confusing that's for sure.
>>
>>47140980
That's odd. I'm positive I recall it being classified as a "material" falling under Water somewhere, which was what started the whole notion of classifying Riku as Metal. That was the ONE that I'm 100% certain of.

I'll try and find the source and translation I based that on.
>>
>>47141071
Well, Metal is often referred to as Void, which lightning is a part of.

Like I said it's weird as shit.
>>
>>47141069
>>47141071
>>47141030

I had it explained to me like this.

The energy or state is called fire because it is found in the highest concentrations in fire or fire associated things but nothing is ever "Pure"

Like people even if you are based or associated with water or fire you aren't pure.

Certain organs and body parts are aligned with one element or the other and makes you mixed.

So things like lightning would have aspects of, going by that chart, both Pi and Zuan, making fall under both.

Wind would be a mix of Zuan and Beng I guess.
>>
>>47141071
Its always interesting to see how people weave mythology into these things. You've gone heavily into eastern myth, the last Sternritter borrows heavily from Arthurian Legend, HQR was a mix of everything with heavy christian and Lovecraft overtones.
>>
>>47141115
Oi Strike, Back to the writing! Don't make me get out the whip! Or do~
>>
>>47141115
Well, "Void" is typically the Japanese equivalent rather than the Chinese, which adds a whole other level of confusion.

I'm just gonna stick by my initial designs on this one for simplicity's sake.

>>47141124
That does get into the medical aspect of it too, which is yet another complicating factor. Seriously, there are times where I THINK I understand these sorts of things.

Anyway that's it for me, ask.fm is always a thing and I'll work on the pastebins when I've got time.
>>
>>47140411
I second that notion exuberantly.

Why even make a bleach quest if you're not going to use the setting? It's the one redeeming feature of the show. Okay, there are a couple of characters who can stand on their own merits, but by and large it's the interesting setting that prompts these quests. What Azure did was slowly replace that setting piece by piece until nothing of the original remained.
>>
>>47141267
Whereas what I've always been more interested in is expanding on things in the setting that seem to just "be". Where are the Shinto gods? Why would the only afterlife we see be distinctly Japanese? What are hollows and quincies, and why is Hueco Mundo even a place? Why is anything anything?

To explore that I needed a character with a very specific sort of potential, and Riku was that character.
