Welcome one, and I welcome you all to the tale of a world called Thespia.

Here is the odyssey of one that clings to this world with no face of their own! In a place where magic is fundamental to all of creation, from the ancient origins of Leviathan seas and behemoth lands, zephyr winds, and phoenix fires. All things in this world has a life and voice. Yet they are only heard by those that listen.

The Faceless, a being of eldritch origins, arose from the bottom of a well. Many a folk tale in Thespia says that only two things reside at the bottoms of wells, "Evil and wishes."
Since returning to the surface land wearing the face of another, The Faceless has encountered many friends and foes in their journeys as they switch faces and live the lives of others.
The question that persists? Which face is his own? And where will his adventures lead as he twists the fate of this cursed world.

Traveling now as the Eternal Dancer, Belinda the Beautiful, the Faceless's party makes its way to Celes Prance, a Namour city built upon a lake.

' The skies over the Cleptess harbour take a turn for the gloomy and overcast. Some street vendors take notice and begin closing up their shops complaining about the weather being poor for business. Shops with actual buildings stay open, and wives stoke fire in their homes to give their husbands a warm place to dry once the rain starts to come down.

Victoria eyes the sky keenly, the glimmer of thought in her diamond eyes shimmering before she looks to you and Odette, “It's going to rain soon. Say in around three or so dramatic moments.”

“Thank you for that Victoria.” You say with the gloom of the sky already wearing down upon you. You've had nothing but trouble since arriving in this city. First, the guards at the gate shook you for a fake security deposit, then you had all of your money stolen, and finally someone sabotaged your wolf with a week-long sleeping draught.

“She's right. We should take cover soon ourselves. You've got your fire, sure, however we could all catch sick from a rain like this.” Odette checks the sky, looking upon the clouds as they gather.

“Curious thing about a dramatic moment, it always seems longer when you're having one.” Victoria grabs your sash. “I'm not used to walking this much...” She says, panting.

“You'll have to get used to it.” Odette swats Victoria's hand off of your clothing.

The girl rescinds and seems not only hurt, but startled. “I-I'm sorry. I d-didn't mean to be a pest. Was that bad?” The meek side of her instantly surfacing.

You stare at Odette for a moment as you exchange a look of pity with her before turning to Victoria and taking her hand. “All of us need to walk for now, but we mustn't get separated here, so lets all hold our hands.”
>>
>>47104915
'
Victoria grips the belt of her trousers, sniffling a little as she lets her hand be held by you. Her hand is soft, softer even than yours actually, and it feels almost weightless; which is likely owed to the girl's frail nature and consstitution.

You reach out to Odette and the three of you hold hands to the Adventurer's guild to pick up a job...

The Guild hall is packed with others seeking refuge from rain which just starts to come down when you're all inside. The chill of the sea lingers upon the wet air, staved off only by the multiple fires lit inside the guild, basking the place with the toasty smell of a hot hearth.

As the three of you come in, you and Odette with your hoods up, you push through the crowds to a ore open space. Likely they're awaiting the rain to end before heading off to wherever they're set to go.

As you near the request board, you feel a sink in your gut as you see that only a few requests are actually available. Just your luck. But hey, beggars can't be choosers, right?”

You read out the notice for slaying the beast, and Odette seems to take some interest. You think it sounds a bit silly, especially considering that the entire notice is done in capitalized text. You can almost hear the crazy old man yelling.

Victoria looks at the notice and frowns, “You're not really thinking about doing that one, are you?”

“Why? Seems like a worthy challenge.” Odette says as her eyes seem to have an ember sparked within, that tried and true Makoh bloodlust coming theough.

Victoria shakes her head, “Oh you dumb savage, is that all-” Odette's glare gives the girl's haughty act pause. “I-I mean, th-the Kraken is a monster unlike any other, on par with the leviathans of old. Only a hero such as Leon, King of Fortitudina could hope to match it, and he's strayed from it due to no weaver being brave enough to stand with him for the underwater battle.”

Odette considers the Ace's knowledge for a moment and you can see her expression glaze over that one, “Hm, if that's the case... It would be our early graves.”

“I've read, so long as no blood is shed in the waters of the Kraven Ocean it rests peacefully.”

“Aye, 'owever th' beast arises durin' storms such as these.” Another adventurer creeps up behind the three of you. He takes the notice of the Kraven from the board and yells over to the counter, “ Hey, Will you lot stop humorin' old Blu? That old coot still believes someone's gonn' take up this suicide offer durin every damn o'ercast day.”
The man crumples the notice and throws it at an Arafleur behind the counter. The man glares at the woman as her green cheeks flush a deeper green from embarrassment as the adventurer heads over to the tavern area.

“Right, so we could either search for rare ingredients for an alchemist or go diving for pearls.”

Odette shrugs, “After hearing about that Kraken, I rather stay out of the water. Let's go with the alchemist.”
>>
>>47105680

“Oh, that's interesting. I'll have to see what kind of things he's concocting. .. Cyanos... Oh! Drezar naming conventions. His parents named him after Cyanide.” Victoria shakes her head, “They think they're so clever.”

“Might give you a run for your money.” Odette snipes.

Victoria raises a brow, perplexed by the statement,“What? I hate running, and father has my money. Why would they run after father.”

The three of you head up to the counter and submit the request for work. The Arafleur clerk averts her eyes at first, “Say, I'm sorry you had to see all that. The old man comes in here whenever his bones feel a storm and he goes on about willing to give everything he has for someone to slay the kraken.” She uncrumples the notice from earlier and slides it under the counter. “Sorry, what can I do for you?”

“Taking this request for the alchemist.” You put the notice before her and she kind of grimaces.

“Oh.” She says, her floral eyes wincing at the notice.

“Oh? What's oh?” You ask.

“Don't try the elixir, Cyanos makes poisons.” She shakes her head, long curls swinging gently across her face. “I hate this city... Why was I transferred here.” She mumbles under her breath.
“Do you still want to take this request? You'll be responsible for killing someone down the line you know.”

Something in the atmosphere, or perhaps this city along with the day your having worms its way into a fouler part of your mood. A wretched expression appears on your face with a grimace as you lean over the counter, “Wouldn't be the first, won't be the last. Someone's going to take that money anyway.”
Your body trembles and you feel a sharp pain in your face, causing you to fall against the counter and drop to your knees.

Odette is upon you in an instance, holding your shoulders. “Bel, what's wrong? Are you okay?”

You shake, feeling sweat bead upon your brow as you feel your face pull away. (Ew! Ew, ew, ew! What by Sol was that?!) You feel Belinda scream, causing your ears to ring within.

Gripping my face, my eyes come into focus for a moment as I speak back to her. (I don't know, something just came over me. Bitter and spiteful... That's... not me. That's not...)

Taking a deep breath, I bring myself... yourself back to order. Belinda seems to take a moment of hesitation before her face resettles. Odette, seeing what's happening to you ensures that no one else can bear witness.

“Um, is she okay?” The clerk asks, leaning over curiously.

“She's fine, just a bit ill from something she ate.” Odette covers.

As your face resettles you stand up again still doubled over a bit as though from a cramp. “Sorry, I'm not sure what just came over me... May I... May I lie down for a bit?”

The Arafleur steward stares at you for a moment, your red hair and Odette's white hair peeking out of your cloaks and reflecting in her eyes. “Y-yes...” She leans closer, “You're the two... Um. Look, I don't know the circumstances of what happened...”
>>
>>47106583

Odette stares at the steward dangerously as she pulls your and her own cloak tighter.

The woman feels the danger in Odette's posture, “H-However some grateful people sent a package your way from a prior request... E-excuse me...” The steward vanishes into a backroom.

Odette touches your shoulder, “We should get going. You still don't look well, and we drew some attention...”

You notice a few leery stares from some of the other patrons.

Odette pulls, yet you linger and grab onto her arm drawing close. “If we hurry out now.. we'll be followed. Let's give it a moment at least...”

Odette pulls away, still tense from the stares from the others.

Victoria stays quiet, sticking close to the two of you.

Some moments pass and the steward comes around with a large package that she's transiting by a cart. She pauses at the counter and notices the stares locked on you and Odette. Offering a little wave, some of them look away.

She stands at the counter pert and a little stiff, “The people of Prudenia sent an additional reward after scouting the wood. The note said they felt this was owed to you at least.” Lifting the package takes all she has to place it on the counter. “I won't tell anyone about you. I want to believe that you're not like this city.” Her smiles wavers for a moment as she remembers what you'd said, “If you'd like, I would recommend the pearl diving... Or... “ The Arafleur is quiet for a moment as she considers something.
“If you're looking for money, go to the tanner on Avice street. Tell him that Emrelda sent you and he should give you a fair deal for some of those hides.”

“Hides?” You blink as Odette takes the package, straining a little as she holds it.

Emrelda nods, “Yes... Dire wolves I've heard. Extremely valuable. You should wait until the suspicion dies down. I wish you three luck in this city.” Emrelda smiles and gives you a brisk wave for departure.

You nod absently as you turn away, moving for a table to wait out the looks. As you wait, you realize that you have a package that you'd never opened in your haste to get out of Pruden.

(Belinda... What happened earlier?) You ask as the three of you sit at the table...

Belinda is silent for a few moments, (I... I just couldn't believe that you'd actually say that. It was such a wretched, spiteful thing. You're better than that, I feel it in you... I feel it in us. I know that I'm not perfect, but people's lives are no joke to me. I may burn others in self defense, but who knows what that poison could be for?) You feel Belinda pause, as though to swallow and it occurs in your own throat. ( It could be someone's mother, or a child in the way of inheritance.) She shakes your head and you breath deeply only to draw out a sigh.

(Something came over me... I'm sorry. I don't know what I was thinking. This place is getting to me. Besides Emrelda, we've met nothing but bad people here.)

Belinda sighs, (Well, the sooner we leave then, the better. Take care of your heart. It effects me too.)

You draw yourself out of your internal thoughts as the rain beats drums upon the paneling, the distant cry of lightning thundering in the backdrop. Rain drips in through the windows as the streets fill with water falling from the sky outside to lend the city a wet ambiance as Sol begins to set.

In the light of the evening fire, you bring out an old package you picked up in Pruden in your flight and open it up... Within, you find a gold and silver hair comb suited for updo hair in an almost dynastic fashion.
>>
>>47107929

>A note attached says, “... The Lord-Lady of the Free Marches seems alright. Still miss the old ruler, but I'll give this business the Reaper's left us a try. Good luck on your travels Lady Beli.” -The Serpent's Arms.

Looking over the comb, its wrought in the shape of a scythe with multiple handles in place of the comb's teeth. Atop the silver scythe with a golden blade lies a golden owl beset with a silver, featureless face.

>“P.S. I'm not so good at fine detailing, couldn't do to owl's beak and eyes. Hope that's alright by you.”

You find yourself chuckling at the irony, a faceless owl for the faceless. Poetic Irony is the strongest force in Thespia, no?

“What's funny? What are you laughing about?” Victoria asks as you slip the comb into your sleeve.

“Nothing boy, it's fine.” You enunciate the falsified gender. Less looks linger on you.

Opening the second package with Odette, you're greeted by the pungent odor of decaying flesh and immediately close it after confirming the furs inside and drawing the letter.

“We went looking into the woods after you left and found the remains of several dire wolves. We skinned what we could, though the process was hard due to the toughness of their hides. Sent you three the best pelts. Considering their worth among tanners and adventurers, it's only right that it go to you. We've the rest to get us back on our feet with trade. You, the archer, and the bard are always welcome with us. Heard the business about the Komtesse. We don't quite believe it, though rumor's abound that she made you do it. Good luck in your travels Lady Beli. We'll remember you always.”

You pass the note to Odette, smiling a little to yourself. When the rain stops, you'll be able to sell the hides or have something made. It's good to know at least, that you've left some good in your travels.

When it rains, it pours. Yet in the morning, Sol is oft to come out again.
>>
>>47108099

The rain doesn't stop as Sol sets. You see through the window that some of the fires in the homes are being snuffed out. Soon, one of the clerks heads over to the hearth and heartily declares, “Sol's down and the storm carries on. The fires need to die for the evening, the Kraken comes. Any that want to take a look, go ahead outside.” The man smiles as he throws a bucket of water upon the flames, quenching them in an instant.

There's a sullen silence after it all goes dark, a few candles are lit and windows shut.

Victoria rises from her seat, “I want to...”

The doors bust open before she finishes and a man hobbles in upon a gait that pounds the wood of the floor hard with every odd step. “Storm's come an' night's fallen! Who yebe thar that can face th' dreaded Kraker?”

Victoria stands resolutely before the two of you in the dim light, “I want to see it. I must see this beast with my own eyes.”

“Victor, sit down.” Odette whispers harshly.

“Ah, thar! Thar be a lad man'er than any'un o' ye yellowbellied.” The man yells with a drunken swagger as he heads over to your table.

“Captain Blu, please. We've put up a posting and no one's accepted.” Emrelda slips from behind the counter and holds the man's shoulders only to be thrown back onto the floor by his old strength.

“Away wit' ye woman!” He bellows drunkenly while several adventuring patrons stand up, ready to pounce upon the senile old man.

“Old fool. No one can challenge the beast of the Kraven sea.” Victoria mutters under her breath.

Standing up with your cloak drawn firm, the darkness gives you the confidence to strut out before the men ready to toss the old codger out. “Gentlemen, gentlemen please.” You raise a hand as you curtsy before the gruff sailor.

“I aint ask'n fer no lassy's help.” Captain Blu spits on the floor.

Emrelda gets off of the floor. As she starts to limp away, she's helped by a couple other patrons.

“That old man comes 'round here taking advantage of that lass. Sick of seein it with every one of my stays here.”

“I'll escort him out.” You say to the men as you turn to the scowling captain. As he makes to shove you, your arm reflexively deflects his push and hold his wrist to twist his arm to turn him around. Tightening the twisted arm, you look to the others as they realize you won't be gentle as you force the man out of the guildhouse. Victoria and Odette pickup your things and hurry after into the rain as a bolt flashes across the sky, thunder blasting shortly after.

“Argh, ye damned wench! Unhand me!” The man shuffles, trying to fight against you, his peg leg as you can see, however does a poor job in helping him keep his ground.

“Nay, you'd ought to respect women more. Show me this Kraken, I'll determine whether we could kill it.”

“I want to see it too.” Victoria says in a flat monotone, though you can feel her lingering excitement.
>>
>>47109013

The Captain finally pulls forward instead of thrashing and you let him go to slip in the rain and fall. A part of you feel a bit bad for the man's treatment, however drunkenness is a poor excuse for aggression.
“Aye, you want to see it, do ye?” the man stumbles back up to standing, finding ground after a bit.
“Fa, vary well.” The man turns, looking out towards the sea and over the undeveloped parts of the city. Lifting an old hand withered by the ocean's salt, he points toward the harbor.

“Thar it be.” He says.

You and Odette blink, confused at first. All you see is the darkness of the sky, the overcast thunderclouds unleashing a deluge upon Cleptess, and... Two Lunas?

As you, Victoria, and Odette stare into the distance, you see two empty Lunas lingering in the dark sky, looking over the city of Cleptess with an almost malevolent glare. With no fires lit, the city must look dead and empty as the abyssal creature looks on at the city like a grim spectre, a reminder of what's happened.

Victoria squints, and then grins a broad stupefied expression as she sees the beast. “The Kraken was born from wars and piracy fought upon the Cruenna Ocean. The dead thrown overboard, the ships burned in countless naval battles... Their threads merged together into a beast that would appear on stormy nights or when blood was drawn upon its waters. Since its emergence piracy came to a full stop in Cleptess, and free trade boomed. The Cruenna sea has been renamed the Kraven Ocean for all fear to awaken the monster from its depth.”

“T'is said, it shows up on stormy nights as these 'cause th' thunder reminds it o' cannonfire. I say, t'is a reminder tha' th' beast will always 'ppress us.”

“You want people to fight... THAT?” You say with wide eyes, and a smile spreading across your face as if this man is truly mental. Some part of you wonders how deadly that Dire Wolf Abomination would've been had it been allowed to complete itself...
>>
>>47109027

“Someone has t'. Someone needs t' kill a beast that takes hundreds a people fer a spare drop o' blood.” Captain Blu hobbles away through the city alone, leaving the three of you to the soaked night.

Odette touches your shoulder, “We should go. I don't feel good in the open with that thing...”

You nod absently, thinking that if you had the mask of the Makoh, you could potentially engage that thing... The power to challenge even a great leviathan...

The three of you find an inn that'll take you despite being soaked to the bone. A place run by an Arafleur and Namour couple that simply can't pull themselves away from each other even as you check in. The arafleur convinces his wife that one can't simply turn away drenched travelers on a Kraken's night. The two are heard kissing through the floorboards. Victoria ponders how two people could kiss that loudly and for so many hours on end.
Belinda snickers in your mind, saying that she has a few ideas... Ones that you could try with Odette.

Sol comes in the morning with a fog rolling in over the sea, the city's lighthouse active in the morning sometime after the kraken had sunk back into the sea.

The streets are surprisingly unflooded, grates draining the excess water into the city below that you've yet to become acquainted with.

You promise the couple compensation for your stay, yet they bid you farewell without any concern.

Why? And who asked your opinion? Do you post about vidya on /pol/ because you think /v/ is a horrible idea?
>>
>>47109295
It seems to be a great idea. It's nice not seeing a front page full of quest threads on /tg/ these days.
>>
>>47109311
>Why?
Taking a small part of /tg/ and putting it on it's own board is retarded.
>And who asked your opinion?
It's a trial board to gauge whether people want it or not.
>>
>>47109295
you took the bait, anon....
>>
>>47109404
I can't resist.
It's too delicious
>>
Mmm. This seems like a good time to wrap up tonight...

How'd you guys feel about the thread tonight? I know it was a bit slow and all. Lots of distractions on my side as well.

Wanted to ask what you guys are curious about in regards to lore so I know anything I should include. It sounded like you guys liked the thing with the Kraken.

>End Scene~
>>
>>47109472
Nothing really happened this time.
But that Kraken got me interested in changing faces again
>>
>>47109472
Besides the last few threads being rather slow I'd be interested in how the fuck that Kraken didn't get killed by anyone yet.
It seems to have been around for a while.
>>
>>47109472
Yeah, I'm getting a sense of lost momentum too. Even if for some reason we actually engaged the Kraken, it doesn't really tie in to the main plot. If we changed faces, things would rapidly escalate, but we aren't exactly done with dealing with things as Beli, are we? Things like that thief dude.

...how do I say this. I can't get the sense whether you want to do this "hunt" thing between Beli and the thief, or if it's just something to ignore as if it was meaningless.
>>
>>47109472
I'm wondering how you're going to wrap up Beli's face considering there isn't really a clear stopping point like with Dramir
>>
>>47109541
Yeah that Kraken doesn't really fit into the current story.
It's like if suddenly a zombie apocalypse would start during Pride and Prejudice
>>
>>47109541

It's more so a look at the grander scale of Thespia and the monsters that have and do exist.

It's also part of Cleptess's current story and how it's developed the way it has.

>>47109555
Beli's face will see a resolution in Celes Prance. Though you guys could end up wearing another face sometime before that. I'd like to gear this more towards cutting down the linear path and bring you guys more clearcut shorter objectives. I expected to get a lot further, barring distractions on my end.

The Kraken has and will be around. As it was said, it doesn't bother people so long as they respect its presence.

Oh, and this is also a good time to say this:

That dire wolf abomination was STRONG. If Rava's brute force methods rated a 10, I'd rate the abomination as an 8 or a 9 with potential to be a 15.

The Kraken however would rate at 100+

>If Rava's brute force methods rated a 10, I'd rate the abomination as an 8 or a 9 with
Oh boy.
I guess we could have avoided that by executing the wolves?
Aslo Good Night, it's getting early here
>>
>>47109654
The kraken kinda seemed like an immediately important thing because it was the one big thing in this thread.
Also how strong is that Makoh face supposed to be?
>>
>>47109719
It's very strong. Though it's basically all brute force without anything inherently technical or special.

Avar and Rava only managed to get it because a number of his peers bound him with their pacted weapons long ago.

His history is washed away and they don't know his name.

His mask is based on LoZ's Fierce Diety.
>>
>>47109719
Also, legend has it that he challenged a monster that eventually became an ocean to a fist fight.
>>
>>47109772
This is like Indian mythology levels of power.
I sure hope we don't have to fight over controll with that mask too often
>>
>>47109759
Twin adventures of stealing faces interlude when?
>>
>>47109759
I'm actually really looking forward to interacting with that mask. Nothing too interesting has really happened in the last few threads. There doesn't seem to be an immediate goal to strive towards and our companions don't really do much, nor have their interactions been all that interesting. I do like the gradual reveal of the world's lore though. I honestly think we should just wrap up beli's story and move on to another.
