Edging away from the full-on pokefest, you manage to get some eggs, french toast and even a few sad looking strips of limp bacon, heaping a second plate a bit fuller than your own. Willie stays close to you till you ask her to get the drinks, and when you reach a nice, quiet table in the corner, you give her the bigger plate. She gives it a ravenous look, but eats carefully. Nothing about this girl seems to be rash or impulsive, even if she's got the voracious appetite of any destroyer. Shoukaku settles down near you, a simple bowl of oatmeal and glass of orange juice on her tray.

“They certainly seem... lively,” she says with a smile as the squabbling siblings move their argument towards the tables. “She reminds me of-” Shoukaku suddenly freezes, her orange juice halfway to her lips. A kind of frission seems to race through her from top to bottom as her eyes widen.

“Oh?” Zuikaku says from behind her. “Who does she remind you of, sis?”

“Aaaah....”

Zuikaku leans over, draping her arms over Shoukaku's shoulders and pressing her cheek to her sister's. “Awww come oooon, who does the foreign devil yankee making a fool of herself in front of the whole world remind you of, Shoukaku?”

“Ah, you know, Ss-end-dai!”

“Ss-en-dai?” Zuikaku marvels, reproducing her sister's searching pronunciation exactly. “Gee, don't know WHO *that* is!”

You lift your cane and offer it to Zuikaku silently. She smiles at you brilliantly and plucks it from your grasp, smacking the end into her palm with relish as Shoukaku starts to blush bright red. “Zz-zui-”

“Can't be me, right? Because how can you fight with your sister, when she's NEVER AROUND!?”

“ZuiZui, honey-”

“Don't you ZUIZUI ME!” Zuikaku snaps, dropping your cane on the table and snapping upright to yell at her sister's back. “You've been in your own little world the whole last week. Longer!”

“ZUIKAKU!” Shoukaku objects, twirling in her chair and making desperate little wave-off motions with her hands. “No!”

“YES!” she refutes, crossing her arms and entering a proper Twintail Tsundere huff. “You've been all...” she flutters her hands in the air, tip-toeing across the floor like she's floating on pixie dust. “And all-” she flings the back of her wrist across her forehead dramatically, swooning as best she's able. Eyes at other tables are turning your way, now. “And even~” she holds out a finger, letting it dip slightly with the weight of an invisible songbird alighting.

“ZUIKAKU, STOP-”

You're eating quickly, your mind busily contemplating just how bad it'd be to look up and find Arizona's cornflower blue eyes flashing hurt and betrayal in your direction. You really, really didn't need a scene today, but they just seem to find you. Why couldn't they work in YOUR favor for once? Looking around desperately, you catch sight of the Kongou Sisters at the breakfast bar. Kongou's sticking her tongue out one side of her mouth, focusing intently on drawing something onto her french toast with the blueberry syrup, Hiei is watching her efforts with rapt attention and Kirishima is stealing glances at someone in the corner while trying to look more cool and aloof than normal... but Haruna, thankfully, is as sweet and sane as ever. You wave your cap once and catch her attention, and sigh in relief as she starts your way-

A loud, cacophonous crash announces the door being damn near knocked off its hinges as someone barrels through at top speed. You look up and find the glass still in the door instead of all over the floor and an absence of trucks, which returns your heartbeat to something normal - until you espy the New Girl dragging a familiar face behind her, who's looking more dour than usual.

“... Kaga?” Shoukaku asks.

“Kaga,” Zuikaku grumbles.

“Kaga...” Willie moans, sinking deeper into her seat.

“... Essex?”

“ADMIRAL SPOOPY, HI!” Essex's boisterous voice booms across the big room cheerfully. She seems to have acquired a gigantic and really frilly Pirate Hat, and a big plastic cutlass to go with it. “JUST LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO - YOU!”

“Eh? Me?” Haruna says in fright, hands drawn up defensively against her chest as she turns to face her accoster.

“YOU! ARE YOU RICH?!”

“Haruna is daijobou~” she sign-songs sweetly.

Essex blinks. “JA, BOOTY?” This sinks through her muddled mind - and ignites a spark. “YEAH, FUCK THE GERMANS! AVAST, CUTE TITS! YEAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHH!” Essex charges across the room, her plastic pirate saber held high, a semi-conscious Kaga being dragged by one hand behind her, expression completely blank. Haruna emits a terrified shriek and cowers against the milk machine, unable to formulate a reply.

Both did, but in much more retarded locations.

Lexington's and Saratoga's at least made sense in that they were actually usable.

Not to mention that since early-mid 1930's carrier doctrine often had CV's operating alone, with destroyer escorts at best, the chance of them running into an enemy scouting force at night/in bad weather was a very real threat (and that exact thing happened several times during the Fleet Problems).

You look down at your half-finished meal, then up at the slow-speed, stumbling, but very kinetic charge of the staggering, stumbling Essex, and feel something deep within you finally give way. As the eyes of everyone present beat down on you, waiting for Admiral Settle, Hero of LA, Indian name “Stands-With-A-Sword” to stand up, assume the position, and start the lengthy screaming that charges your Final Attack...something curious happens.

You stop caring.

It's never, ever going to end, you realize. There will always be another crisis. There will always be another disaster. You have lost control of your life, there's no going back, and there's no reward for coming in first - just a strong incentive to never finish dead last.

Now, ball games were never your sport - fencing was. But you got pretty good at the whole ballistic arc thing - there was this one little fucker on your first deployment that filled you with such deep and horrible hatred that you went out and bought a goddamned sack of golf balls at the first liberty port (the look on the Filipino cashier's face was absolutely priceless,) and for the next few months, every time you were on night bridge watch with Ensign Asshole, it was a simple matter of slipping a golf ball out of your pocket and lofting it clear over the bridge roof towards his station on the opposite wing. It took a few weeks of sending balls into the water opposite to get good at it, but soon you could drop them on his damned cover from halfway across the ship, if you wanted. They nearly section-8ed the dumb bastard.

It turns out that throwing things is another one of those skills ingrained deep in your muscle memory, because the bowl of oatmeal arcs gracefully through the air and whaps into Essex's litso perfectly. She squeals most satisfyingly, tripping over her own feet and going down in a heap, leaving Kaga to stagger upright, still blinking at this bright new World she finds herself in.

“BLIIIIIIIIIND!” Essex is shouting. “I'M BLIIIiiioh is that yes that's maple mmmIIIIIIIIIIIIIND-”

Haruna starts violently and turns to flee, smashing right into someone trying to fill his glass with milk. He turns and glares down at the poor girl, who retreats from him in turn, looking up apprehensively at the tall man with the commander's insignia on his shirt.

“Excuse me?” he asks pointedly.

Haruna turns to flee - and sees Essex staggering to her feet, the bowl gone and the oatmeal reducing her pretty face to a single massless blob with hints of motion beneath it. She seems to have inhaled some of the meal, because all she can do now is emit vague, awful-sounding snorts and hics and moans.

“SAAAAVE MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-” Haruna screams, flinging herself into the arms of the hapless commander. After studying the enroaching beast for a second, he presses his empty glass against the water dispenser instead, then waits patiently for Essex to meander into range - which means he must be Fitzgerald's skipper. A quick splash of water later, and Essex is blinking, unblinded, hatless, and looking significantly more sober. With one finger on the top of her head, he gently guides Harnua away from him - then turns and shoots a Look towards your corner.

You glance around innocently for a few seconds before deciding he caught your eye. You smile and wave innocently.

He gives you a lidded-eyed look, regards his glass dubiously, and decides for coffee instead. Haruna watches him go with starry eyes, her clasped hands pressed to her chest. She turns to drift away dreamily, safe at last - and finds herself withering before the towering Umbrage of her sister Kirishima.

“I knew it,” you say flatly.

“Knew what?” Zuikaku asks.

“I really *didn't* make it off that bridge.”

Oh, they fucking knew, but they hated him too. He was That Guy.

Hokay, I'm done for tonight. We do have some writeups to post, including the newest Shimakazetime!

I'll be running an omake thread on Friday - it's canon, but not directly related to the main story - and a normal thread on Saturday. I have an idea in mind for the omake thread - it's more battle action involving conventional ships (this time, a sub vs a surface force) but if there's something else you'd like to see, sing out!

“Foxx what are we doing?” Elly whined, flailing her arms and the long floppy sleeves of the wind-breaker she was wearing.

“We’re on a stakeout. You know, waiting for the bad guys to show up?” Foxx took a bite of his protein bar as he tapped on the steering wheel of his car. He inwardly cursed whoever it was that put a tiny hatchback eco car into the pool. His eyes drifted over to Elly who was sitting in the passenger seat upside down, legs hooked around the headrest.. He could barely see her face over the crest of her sizeable bust, it was hard for him to not stare given the close proximity to her eyes.
“Hey Elly.”

“Yeah?”

“I’ve seen some of Japan’s destroyers, and the two of ours that have come back, and they all look like they’re about eight to twelve years old, except you. You’re different.”

“What do you mean?” Elly cocked her head a little, scalp brushing against the carpet.

“”Well you’re uh... you have... your um.” Foxx made a patting motion on his chest and waist. Elly smiled, or at least Foxx thought so. He could only see her face up from the nose.

“Oh? Do I detect a wandering eye?” She giggled. “Well think about this, Cannon class destroyer escorts have a single stack that is about as tall as the bridge tower.”

“What does having a small….” Elly beamed a grin wide enough to peek over the crest of her bust as Foxx paused.

“You’re a short stack. Short and stacked.” Foxx’s palm quickly made contact with his forehead to a chorus of more giggles from Elly.

“Short answer is I dunno. I yam what I yam, and that’s all I yam.” Foxx rolled his eyes at the remark and went back to eyeing the water. He could see the searchlights of the two cutters patrolling the Miami waters. Sadly until the Lassen arrived sometime tomorrow Elly would on her own, since the cutters only had a pair of .50 cals each, and three 3”/50 and three mk14’s was not a lot of firepower.

“Hey Foxx?”

“Yeah?” He turned back to his upside down partner

“What makes you so sure that the answer is black people?”

“Hush you,” Foxx turned his face away, slightly blushing. He had gotten all sorts of dirty looks for his outburst in the station. “Anyhow. Where are we Elly?”

“The U.S.A?”

“Yes, but no. We’re in Florida, and Florida was part of the triangle trade.”

“The what?”

“The trade of slaves between America, Africa, and the Caribbean.”

“Ohhhhhhh. Wait,” Elly shifted in her seat, righting herself. “but, how does that link with the all of the people going poof?”

“Well that’s easy, the list of missing persons had a sudden spike in-” A burst of static from the center console cut Foxx off. A radio that the MPD had given him crackled to life.

“Home base to Spooky. Home base to Spooky. Come in Spooky” Foxx swiped the handheld radio sitting in the cup holder.

“This is Spooky go ahead.”

“Foxx? This is Mathis. The cutters have a visual on a bank of fog coming in from the south at about 20 knots. In about ten minutes it’ll be on top of the Biscayne lighthouse and us.”

“Where’s the meetup?” Foxx replied.

“Rendezvous at No Name harbor off of Cradon from the 913.”

“Roger that, Spooky on the way.”

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mathis eyed his watch; it was almost go time. He was about to reach for the radio again when a tiny little two door car came sliding into the parking lot, with Foxx and his companion all but leaping out of the vehicle.

“I know for a fact that you couldn’t have made that trip at legal speeds, agent,” Mathis said, smirking.

“Yeah well, write me a ticket and send it to the pentagon,” Foxx replied, returning the smirk. “Any updates on this aggressive fog?”

Mathis’ face soured. “Sortof. This fog is playing hell with our sonar and radar. We’ve got what might be a return inside but we have no idea how big or small it is, so we’re holding back for now. I hope you have some sort of plan. A pair of Marine Protector’s won’t do anything in a stand up engagement.”

Foxx nodded. “Of course. The USS Lassen is on it’s way from Duval base and will arrive before dawn.

“Well what good does that do us right now?!” Mathis exclaimed. “We have an abyssal bearing down on us and our support is hours away?!”

Foxx put his hands up. “Calm down. We also have a hull here. She’ll be the one fighting out there.”

“A hull? You don’t mean one of those ship girls!?” Mathis exclaimed. “Are you sure they’re safe? I mean, I know they’re supposed to be on our side but can we really trust them?”

Foxx looked at Elly. Elly looked at Foxx. “Yeah. I think we can. Elly. Show him what you got.”

Funny thought, but he'd have been out for a long time if he hadn't gotten promoted. He'd probably be an LCDR or CDR by now, if he's still in--remember, for officers, "Failure to Advance" is cause for being discharged from the service. And last I knew, at O-1, you only got ONE chance to be promoted to O-2 before they kicked you out.

“Right-o!” Elly replied. She turned towards the water and sprinted, taking long strides as she shifted to one foot, spinning and leaping from foot to foot before planting both feet and springing off the pier. “Here comes magical ship girl Elly! Ready to save the world!”

As Elly sailed through the air the long sweater and jeans she was wearing exploded in a burst of fog. Her deep navy uniform fluttering about her as the mist receded to her shoulders where it condensed into the smokestack and antennae on her back. With a large splash Elly landed on her white gaiter covered boots and gunned her screws, propelling her out of the harbor.

Mathis looked at Foxx, his mouth agape. “Magical ship girl Elly?”

Foxx tried his best to avoid the officer’s gaze. “She...she watches a lot of foreign shows on my phone.”
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The titanic bank of fog was already consuming the lighthouse as Elly turned south at a sluggish ten knots, forming up with the pair of cutters, waiting just outside the fog bank, their engine’s idling, both machine guns angled toward the wall of mist in front of them.

“Elly? Elly come in.” Came Foxx’s voice squawking over her radio. “We’re going to proceed slowly and investigate. Once you enter the fog I’m not going to be able to maintain visual contact so stay on the radio.”

“Aye aye!” She replied, setting her screws back to one quarter and slowly advanced, the cutters following right behind her.

“Hey Foxx?”

“What’s going on. You see something?”

“N-no. I just thought I should say that this is gonna be the first time I’ve been in combat.”

“Oh.”

Magical Dork CV-9 Essex vs Magical Yahweh SecNav & Magical MegaBitch IJN Kaga

"Ah! There she is!" A voice says from the shadows.

I throw open the doors to the conference room and pose, cocking my hips and crossing my arms beneath my chest, fingers tapping at the crook of my elbow. Colbert sat on my shoulder, his piercing gaze keeping a sharp eye for threats. All other eyes? On me. At least I, think they're on me. There's a bunch of huge tvs in here, each with a different face waiting. The glare from the monitors is almost blinding. The effect was intimidating. Having to stare down the Secretary of the Navy like this, I wouldn't blame a lesser man for flinching.

However, FEAR is not in the dictionary that Essex knows! I mean, yes, it was in my dictionary. I did know the definition. TECHNICALITIES. Fear is for the Japanese– Wait. No. They were tenacious and fought like the Alamo on the islands– FEAR is for the ITALIANS! However, I am composed! Elegant! Perfection! I stride down the long carpet to mahogany conference table with measured grace. My heels dig into the soft carpet as I walk by the sole marine in the room–

*FWACK*– *SQUUUAWK*

And I trip, face planting into the red, velvety carpet.

ONE TIME, I think to my self, I trip over the Nautilus ONE TIME, and everyone remembers me as klutz! At least Colbert was fine. The bird had taken off and escaped from my tumble. My momentum carries me face over, and I'm rolling, crashing through the furniture, until I'm finally able to leverage my core, and pop off the ground.

Dust lingers in the air among the mess of strewn chairs thrown aside. Unhurt, legs crossed, and impossibly relaxed, I sat in the soft leather chair at the head of the conference table. I brush the dark locks back in place and adjust my headband. A perfect landing, I think to myself. There's a flutter of wings, and Colbert returns to his perch on my shoulder.

"Gentlemen, our newly returned carrier, and lead ship of her class." SecNav says, warmly clapping as he introduces me to his staff. "CV-9 Essex. She likes to make an entrance."

CALCULATED.

"It's good to be back, sir." I smile at the crowed, settling into my smug and assured aura. "You wanted to discuss something with me?"

He nods. "Jimmy, if you could?" SecNav says, and the marine behind me clacks away on his little device. Suddenly, a bunch of screens light up, and charts and graphs appear. Viewer numbers, page hits, something about "Internet traffic", pie charts showing poll results, a complicated web of various people– Oh hey! Admiral Beatrice was on there!– and more importantly, various instances of that "web stream" I walked in on. My eyes widen in shock and embarrassment as I watch my self valiantly, and fruitlessly, fight against the "anonymous horde" of "4chan" as they invaded Kongou's stream.

"DELETE THIS!" I sputter, dropping all compares and turning the same shade of crimson my other self in the monitor glowed with. That was when those monsters were asking me HORRIBLE questions! Like my weight! You don't ask a lady how much she weighs! That's rude!

"I'm sorry Miss Essex, but that isn't possible." An admiral says. There's a clock on his screen. It's past midnight? Whoa, is he talking to me from Washington? "The stream was public and open to the public. It's been spread all over the Internet!"

"Can I delete the Internet?" I ask, watching in horror as a clip of myself shaking it to a pop song starts playing across a monitor. All over the world already? It had been a few hours at most! This "Internet" made radio and television look slow as the postal service!

"I'm afraid not." SecNav chuckles to himself. "A strange thing about the Internet. Everything that passes through, it stays forever."

"That's terrifying, sir. Will you be bringing those hooligans who were asking me lewd questions to justice?"

"I'm afraid that's impossible, Essex. The Internet loves its anonymity." SecNav says. "Jimmy, pull up the world map please?" There's a clacker of keys, and the main screen is showing a map of the modern world. Oh, wow. There's so many new countries here. "See all those pins there, Essex?" I nod. Red tack pins littered the map, their spread reaching all over the world, but especially concentrated in the NATO sphere. "Those pins mark places where your stream drew in large numbers of viewers. The total count is in the millions! You're a star on YouTube!"

I take a look at the map again. Hold on. Something was missing. "Sir. The USSR isn't on this map!" They were gone, and in their place was a large number of nations orbiting Russia. "It's just the Russians now?"

"Correct." Another staff member says. "A lot has changed while you were gone. I know it must be a shock, but the USSR collapsed. They're gone."

"SO WE WON!" I shout. "WE DID IT BOIS! WE BEAT THE COMMIES!" I say, fist bumping with my bald eagle.

"Not exactly!" SecNav says. His eyes were lit up with glee. That's never good. It's never good when the God behind God is grinning with glee. "The USSR is gone, and the Cold War is over, but there's still communists in the world." Paul-Bunyan's-Crusty-Trousers! I should have known that cancer wouldn't have died so easily! "In fact, some of them are even our allies. The Chinese are our largest and most profitable trade partners."

"The chinks? I thought they were isolationists!"

"They've opened up their markets in the last few decades. The almighty dollar is a amazing force. They're our allies, officially, but God help me if they haven't been a thorn in the side for the last few years."

"How so sir?" I ask, pretending to be examining my nails. Hell yes. Time to sock it to the chinks! Time to get them back for helping the Norks in Korea!

"They don't like you." SecNav says, in a rather blunt fashion.

"Sir, I don't understand. I thought you said the world loved me!"

"Well, they do as well. At least, Chinese citizens do." SecNav says as he riffles through his papers. "But the CCP, they are very much not enamored by your... assets. The Chinese had no notable naval assets in the war, Essex. The leading theory is that they are very unlikely to ever successfully summon a Hull. However," He motions to Jimmy, and a chart of Japanese and American Hull assets appears to the conference. "Their neighbors can, and they've been bringing as many they could. In the last two years, the Japanese have gained at least six new carrier assets, each at their prime and comparable to modern carriers."

"They're terrified."

"Yes. Exactly." He says, pointing a finger at me. "And even more so, they're afraid of you. You've returned, and now they're afraid your sisters will return too. All twenty-three of them."

I wince. There's a hammering across my head as he speaks. My sisters. There's. There's fuzzy memories. I can recall the barest images of them, all of us, fighting together in the pacific. It hurt to remember, to try and recall them. Even their names escaped me, but I was so proud of each and every one of them. I KNOW I was proud of them!

"Essex! Essex! Can you hear us? Are you alright, dear?" I slowly open my eyes at the sound of SecNav's voice. Jimmy is next to me, gently shaking my shoulder. Did I black out?

"I'll be fine, sir." I say. Was this going to happen every time? "What are the Chinese doing to be a thorn in your side sir? Is there anything I can do to help? A little 'American carrier group just sailing by your coast' kinda message?"

His eyes light up even brighter. Oh fuck-doodles, I said something I shouldn't have, didn't I?

"As a matter of fact, you can!" He claps his hands together and smiles at me. Burr-Hamilton-Slash-Fics-Why, the stream was a mistake. A MISTAKE! "You see, the Chinese have been running propaganda for years now, telling everyone how terrifying you girls are. As for me? I think that's bullshit, but it won't stop soccer moms in Kansas from panicking. See, no one wants to listen to an old man like talk about how wonderful you all are, but they do want to see you!"

"I'm not sure I follow sir."

"I want you to continue streaming."

"What." The board goes quite as the Secretary of the Navy reveals his scheme. I could have heard a pin drop. Admirals and staff around the world looked at him quizzically, already questioning his master plan.

"Your performance was a massive hit, and a massive PR boost to the Navy." SecNav says, his hands animatedly moving about as he spoke. "Everyone wants to meet you, everyone wants to talk to you. I have an list of interview requests from every broadcast station and paper there, and they all want to get to know you.

"And as for the Chinese?" He snickers, before he breaks into laughter. You shudder. That wasn't a sound you ever wanted to hear again. "You should have seen the horror across their ambassador's face, as their entire propaganda machine fell apart before his eyes! All because of you! It was beautiful Essex, and so, I want you to keep doing it!" The UNGRATEFUL BASTARD! He was THROWING me under the PROVERBIAL bus!

“I get it, sir.” I say. “NOW it makes sense. See, this is just a bad dream. All I have to do is *pinch* myself and I'll- OW!" Okay. This wasn't a dream. "So, I just have to hold that stream, and humiliate myself in front of the world, and face their teasing and ridicule and their perversive and invasive questioning. I understand sir."

"Don't put it like that!" SecNav waves away my concerns, "Think of it more like... FDR's Fireside chat's over the radio! Jimmy over here will be helping you prepare and get ready! Oh, and he'll be moderating to stop the worst of the man children."

"Th-thanks Jimmy." I say, giving him a thumbs up through half-teared eyes. He gives a thumbs up back. At least I have him for this ride. And as for that Four-Chan, I was going to sock it to his fat face!

"This is going to be wonderful!" SecNav laughs manically again. This time, even the rest of the board shudders in fear. "I can't wait! Their entire campaign! Years of their bullshit! And you, Essex, are going to tear it all down to nothing! Congratulations! You're the face of the American hull fleet!" He snickers to himself again. The bastard had played me like a seven colored puppet on a magician's string! "I think that brings this meeting to a close! It was nice meeting you CV-9. I'm *very* happy to have you on board!"

"It's good to be back, sir." I stand and snap a salute. "It's good to be back." With a buzz, and the monitors shut down and the conference call is over. I collapse into my chair. "Jimmy. Jimmy, where did it all go wrong?" So soft. I could sink into this chair forever. Hopefully, I could sink so deep, they'd never find me.

"Going by stories ma'am, somewhere between you crashing the Iwo Jima op, and skating that piano down the tarmac."
>>
>>46957061
"And I hold Jimmy, skating that piano was the tightest thing ever." I toss my head onto the table. Could this have been anywise? Why couldn't they have asked Kongou to do it? She liked this stuff, right? Like water, or maybe a kitten, I flow downward like water, melting to the floor. "I'm going to be a LAUGHING STOCK Jimmy! Never ending questions about puuchis, and jabs about my height, and teasing me over the smallest thing!"

I inch my way across the carpet. "Ping!" It's over. Goodby dignity, hello news story. "Ping!" Later Jimmy, Essex has a date with a stiff drink. "Ping!" I'm out the door. "Ping!" I'm in the hallway. "Ping!" I've run into an obstruction. I look up at the object in the way and my eyes trace their way up a pair long, toned legs.

"Yankee."

Oh. I recognize that voice. She was that bitch on comms during Iwo.

"Burning Bush."

"What are you doing?"

"Ping." I say to her. "I'm a submarine now, hiding from the world." I donk my forehead against her shin again. "Ping! I bump into carriers because I'm a submarine. Up periscope. Nice abaft, Burning Bush."

SHIT. I roll away as Kaga's heel comes crashing down where my head just was, splinters flying as it smashes through the floor.

"Yankee pig!"

"That was a *compliment*, nip! Take it to heart! Black lace looks good on you!"

I roll away, and there's a crashing sound once again as Kaga drives her heel through the space my head had just occupied. George Washington above, this woman was out for blood. I take the chance to pop back to my feet and look at her for the first time.

Porcelain skin, but tanned just the slightest brown, wrapped taut across sinewy muscle. She was fit, the kind of build I'd expect from a woman who was an athlete her whole life. Lithe, that was the best way to describe her: thin and elegant. Dark brown locks of silky hair framed her almond eyes; an irritated look etched into her face.

"Oi! Not my fault on that one!" Knew it. Bitch. Sharp tongue and witty, but still a bitch. "I couldn't gather all of myself together, alright?" I point to my quiver. It's insides open to the elements, the complicated machinery whirring away underneath. "If I had a choice, I'd have woken up at Canal Street in London," I flick my hair over my shoulder, "and not in the middle of Japan."

Kaga's eyes narrow at me. "Rezu", she says. Uh oh. Did she catch that? I didn't think anyone would catch that.

"Uh, my name is Essex. Not 'Rezu'. Thank you for trying though. English is difficult language, I understand."

"No Yankee, that's what you are. 'Rezu'. I think I shall call you that from now on. It's a fitting name."

And with that, she was gone, walking down the hallways to her destination. What. A bitch. Not my problem though. "Lets go Colbert!" I hold out my arm and my eagle soars down the hallway to perch on his favorite spot. "We gotta go meet up with Hamp!"

============================

And that's a wrap for tonight. I have part two done (Magical Dork CV-9 Essex vs Magical Dances-With-Wolves Hornet) but I might just save that for Saturday.

I've just realized something terrible. If Essex is a Saber clone, does that mean all the other Essex class ships are also Saber clones? We could be looking at 23 near identical Essexes here.

Kiyoshimo can go full Asura. And now she's likely being upgraded with a few ship-killer missiles (DDG refit). Better than I expected.

This makes her less obnoxious, though. She's not going to try competing in the Settle Bowl. And she's done something to Kaga that has her off-kilter and possibly drunk. So she won't go after Ari or Shoukaku. And with her doing streams and shit, we won't have to encounter her very often.

That isn't exactly a correct system of measurement regarding one's age.

Assume that the individual has been, uh, 'cryogenically put to sleep' during the interval between sinking and being, ahem, 'revived'. The individual hasn't 'matured' during that time period.

Jesus Christ. But then again, security is important...
Though it likely won't do much but piss off anything of higher tonnage than a destroyer.

Speaking of which, I wonder what happened to those two guards when Essex burst in? Something like that would be high on the list to interdict, I'd expect.

The probable threats include Abyssals and rogue shipgirls, not necessarily in that order of likelihood. Pikes are probably the *lightest* things going. Remember how they dug out an old Vulcan 20mm AA gun to enforce Shigure's confinement? And how using something that *light* was regarded as either desperation or blind optimism?

>>46958199
>My guess? The Minekazes.
There were two classes after the Minekaze, the Wakatake and Kamikaze classes. Both were built in the same time period, but the Wakatakes were noticeably smaller: they displaced 900 tons under normal load, compared to the Kamikaze's 1400 tons. We'll probably get the Kamikazes.

Also, there would be an issue with the Minekazes, as one of them had their name taken by a certain super destroyer...
