Welcome back, space pirates, to the seventh chapter of Mecha Space Pirate Quest. As always, you are Roarke S. Starwind, pilot of the Knuckle Kaiser and Captain of the Iron Kestrels pirate crew...or is that Admiral of the Iron Kestrels pirate fleet?

Master Pastebin: http://pastebin.com/sSHs0QmF
Previous Threads: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Mecha+Space+Pirate+Quest

Last time, you defeated the dangerous but insufferably weeaboo Captain Oda Yoritomo of the Storm Dragons, marking your first boss battle of the quest. You also passed a Very Difficult Fast Talk & Persuasion roll to convince him to become your subordinate.

However, he had two conditions. Firstly, you must declare yourself a Pirate Admiral. As far as you know, it's simply a matter of declaring yourself one and dealing with any consequences that come from it, it's not a formal title and Yoritomo might have made it up. This would allow him to keep his crew name and absolute authority onboard his own vessel. The other, more dangerous request was for a photo of your Martian captive Fatima Hana Ahmad wearing an outfit of his choosing...he mentioned some sort of girls' school uniform...for him to make a resin model of to commemorate the occasion.

The Knuckle Kaiser is lightly damaged, with its head armor's SP reduced to 3 and 5 Kills of structure remaining out of a total of 6, meaning that the sensor mask has been damaged and the sharp-toothed grin beneath is exposed. Yoritomo's Osano-Wo is missing its right arm and its samurai helmet is badly damaged, however, so you still got the better end of the bargain.

For those worried about how long the last combat took, do keep in mind that most of the duel involved hitting each other with plain old hyperalloy impact weapons.
>>
It is finally time
>>
>>46759645
I guess we should get the female crewmen i.e. Miles and others to dress up Fatima
>>
>>46759945
Probably the best idea, although it might be easier to do while she sleeps if we drug her
>>
Crazy plan, tell her that her future husband wants proof of life of her in a school girl outfit. Why we have no fucking clue but that's what he wants for us to be paid.
>>
>>46759977
She isn't gonna believe that shit
>>
>>46759977
Considering our Cool and its attached skills, we could actually pull that off
>>
By the way, would you like the Upgrades menu in a separate pastebin, as part of the master pastebin, or just posted manually? I don't mind C & P-ing it, and I'm actually going to do so again right now because I have a couple of additions available. Nothing too flashy, but I thought they might suit a commander's mech.
>>
>>46760017
Separate pastebin sounds nice

And I'm just gonna assume it's you, Wong
>>
...And oops, I lost my name and trip when I went to go image searching on /m/ and wanted to comment on a thread.
>>
So should we drug Fatima, get the female crewmen to do it, or try to convince her to put it on?
>>
>>46760157
Im sayibg drug her and have Miles do it
>>
If you're going to drug her, how you do it matters too. With dogs, you generally wrap medicine in a piece of salami or something, but that doesn't work well on women with a no-pork diet.
>>
>>46760371
>>46760371
We should try persuasion first and then drugs. Its not like we can't try to talk and then not drug her later if it fails.
>>
Did Yoritomo actually request us to bring her pre-dressed in the outfit, or just bring her onto his ship? Could we ask Yoritomo if he could do it on his own, our facilities (and stores of space morphine) likely being rather depleted post-Green Skulls?
>>
Is there a complete drawing of Knuckle Kaiser yet?

>Captain Oda Yoritomo of the Storm Dragons

This sounds strangely Battletech-y.
>>
>>46760462
I think he just wants a photo
>>
Behold.

Upgrades, now with extra sensor options.
>>
>>46760462

He just wants a photo so he can make one of those little anime girl figurines of it and put it on a shelf in his dojo or something.

Good drawfaggotry of the Knuckle Kaiser is worth an automatic +10 CP. Possibly skill increases.

We got contact with your future husband. He wants to know if you are safe. I didn't like his attitude so I'm making you dress you up as a prank.

This seems like a good starting point.
>>

>Persuade
>"Look, I've made a deal and cannot not do this. Given that it's going to happen anyway, we can either do this the easy way or the hard way."
>>
None of the little voices inside you are exactly refusing his offer. After all, you already forced her into one set of clothes today, and this time you have a little more leisure to do things tactfully. "That should be manageable. Welcome aboard, Captain Oda." You shake his Osano-Wo's remaining arm with dignity, before the two of you separate.

You manage to snag the floating pieces of your mask while Yoritomo goes off after his arm, and he returns defeated to his ship, ending the whirlwind waltz of greenish blue and obnoxious cherry blossom pink that would be all a distant observer would have seen, like two sparks trying to snuff each other out. You abruptly realize you need a stiff drink, before you start actually thinking like Yoritomo.

Still, you have a task ahead of you that makes the day's previous battles seem tame by comparison.

As you ponder how to approach this as a leader, one of the weird-looking Harpies from the Yamato exits their mecha bay, "From the Cap'n for the grorious hime-sama." Chirps a nasally voice over the comms, before it hands over a small pod, "S'got the outfit he requested." You scan it suspiciously, but it doesn't look like a bomb and that isn't his usual style anyway.

Mostly satisfied of its authenticity, you jet back to your ship. The moment you unplug from the HMIS, you feel the tension crackle in your muscles. Not just from exertion, but from the stress of doing a job you aren't used to. Piloting the Knuckle Kaiser is one thing, but being a Pirate Admiral? It takes balls to declare something like that while only directly controlling four main batteries of beam cannons and around thirty mecha.

You ride the liftwire down, activating the electromagnets in your boots as you hit the floor. You have a few tasks ahead of you, and no particular rush to do them in except that you've cleared your evening for dinner with the glasses-girl that works on your mech.

[Continued]
>>
>>46760830

I think it already has one, but if you're fighting multiple enemies it can't tell exactly which one you're looking at, and might get it wrong or take too long to tell you over the comms.
>>
Hmm, there's only been descriptions of the Knuckle Kaiser's face mask + teeth and nothing much else. Any anons care to help?

Fair enough. So I guess in a long protracted battle, it'd be valid to request information on notable but unfamiliar targets that are reasonably close to our ship?

Not that we're going to engage in mass combat any time soon, surely.

Surely.
>>
>>46761315
His ship probably smells like an anime convention.
>>
While the mechs confirm that it is, in fact, a schoolgirl outfit in the pod, you weigh your options.

You could go and handle this Fatima thing immediately. You could go and try to convert those Martian pilots. You could also go and see what's up with the one in a cell by himself, the weird kid. You could go pull Karen's pigtails and see if she minds. You could do a lot of things that are all distractions from the tempest awaiting you.

Gloom curls in your stomach, and you make your way to Fatima's cell. She's munching rather daintily on a meal bar, grimacing with every other bite, and washing it down with coffee. As you open the door, her eyes flick up from her food to you, and her expression becomes a scowl, "What do you want now?"

Way I see it, we've so far got trying to deceive her into putting it on for her husband, or tell her that it's going to happen anyway so she may as well get it over with.

Both options will likely be met with some resistance. One because she'll refuse to do anything until she sees her husband, the other because she'll want to make things as difficult as she can for us.

I'm not sure how a subtle (or not so subtle) bribe would go.

Hold up, I've got you semi-covered. The Sensor Mask looks like the one in the OP pic.

You voted for the primary color to be black, the secondary color to be white, and for the eye color to be white.

Head: You've replaced the Sensor Hood head with a new one initially designed for the Thoroughbred series. It has a rounded top with no crest or fin, and a stark white sensor mask covering the face. The mask can flip up like a knight's visor to reveal a sculpted metal humanoid face beneath, with sharp-looking triangular teeth bared in a manic grin.

Arms: Its current loadout consists of a rectangular Large Shield, mounted on the left arm, and a custom-made Armored Thruster Fist on the right. The Armored Thruster Fist (6 Kills, Handy, Quick) is something you threw together when you were first repairing it, as a defense against the Green Skulls or other pirates. Essentially, you welded a lot of spare Harpy armor and the two weakest thrusters on the right forearm and knuckles of its clawed hand to give it added punch, with the thrusters facing back towards the elbow. This would be a waste of metal and a desperation weapon for most pirates, who would probably have tried to integrate the guns of your squadmates' Harpies into its design, but you are a man who appreciates the purity and excellence of unarmed combat, even your old Harpy was equipped only with brawling options. HOWEVER, this design has been improved and updated. Rather than resembling a cylindrical donut of rough metal wrapped around your right forearm, the Armored Thruster Fist is now a large clawed gauntlet with red fingers and powerful spikes on the knuckles. The forearm is massive and thick, with a cowl that extends back over the elbows covering the small thrusters that give it such a punch. On the underside of the forearm is a protruding box connected via an armored cable to a reservoir on Knuckle Kaiser's back, this box can launch your new Magnetic Grappling Harpoon up to a distance of 400m.
>>
>>46761222
>>46761600

Torso: Your mech's torso is broad and brawny, with the excessively squarish lines of older Bucephalus Heavy Industries models. It has articulated plates around the waist, with an assembly of three adjustable thrusters shielded beneath for maneuverability, and an additional pair mounted on the back slightly below the shoulders. The cockpit is mounted in the gut, behind heavy walls of interlocking armor. Your cockpit incorporates your chair from your Harpy, because you've had time to wear a comfortable groove into it and you like the color, as well as some of your belongings. Your aviator shades, signifying your status as an Iron Kestrel, your father's prized harmonica, and a signed poster of Red Siren with a kissmark that's still as crimson as the day she gave it to you. The harmonica is a fairly cheap one, but your dad always made it sound beautiful back when he was alive. You feel pretty safe decorating your cockpit, because in addition to a backup sensor core mounted on the chest the cockpit has the ability to eject as a spherical escape pod in the event of catastrophe. It also has a standard Liftwire, an extendable cord with a foot loop attached that can extend or retract with a command from your PC (Personal Comm) when the cockpit is open, a large storage module, your Anti-Theft Code Lock Deluxe you were glad you could salvage from your personal Harpy that opens with your personal code and sends an alert to your PC if someone else tries to open it. Best of all, it has your customized stereo system, which can be broadcast via loudspeaker at the touch of a button and the most amazing speakers you could steal. The gouges and rough repairs to the armor have been fixed, it now has a smoother but still boxy look, with heavier plates fitted over the chest like a cuirass guarding the cockpit.

Karen removed the simplistic upward-flaring shoulder armor you installed, replacing them with rounded pauldrons studded with imposing spikes.
>>
>>46761222
>>46761600
>>46761622

Legs: The legs are strong and sturdy, with the wide weight-dispersing feet of older models. New ones tend to have narrower, more graceful looking feet with microthrusters to let them dance around, but there's something reassuring about being stompy. The front comes to a blunt point, while the heel is wide and rounded. An armored skirt is attached to each chunky, armored knee and extends down over the calf almost to the heel, with an array of seven thrusters on each to provide main thrust. The thruster skirt on the calves has been slimmed down somewhat and made less bulky while still remaining fantastically stomptastic.

It stands approximately 20 meters tall with a proper head, and weighs 51 metric tons.

>>
>>46761739
Or we can tell her that if she does this, we'll (slightly) reduce her ransom. Because you know, we probably will feel pity for anyone being near Yorimoto
>>
>>46761681
Unsure. Perhaps start with

>"For motivations I'm not entirely certain of myself, an... acquaintance of mine has called in a favor for a photo of you wearing this. Unfortunately for us both, this will have to happen anyway, so you can either make me have someone dress you up by force, or I can just have them bring you to the showers where you can clean up and change by yourself."

I doubt she'd bite, though.
>>
>>46761816
Lets just tell her that we'll make sure our men don't rape her if she does it or we might accidentally leave her cell open one night
>>
>>46761855
That's a threat, rather than a bribe. Carrot and stick works, but I am loathe to be so unsubtle.

>>46761943

"I need you to do something for me." You state, and her scowl deepens.

"What?"

"I need a current three-dimensional image of you in these clothes." You toss them in front of her, and her scowl deepens.

"Why?" She's monosyllabic right now, and her voice sounds a little hoarse. "You are not to look at my body."

"Because I made a deal to spare you the company of a very irritating and obnoxious man, one who thinks clothes like this are tasteful."

"Oh, he's a friend of yours, isn't he?" Oh no, she isn't entirely out of venom yet, she's just retreated into her shell momentarily.

"He's a subordinate." This is technically true.

Her eyes narrow, "Then why are you making deals with him? Simply give him orders. A king is judged on the quality of his servants, yours are undisciplined and impolite."

"You..." You realize this is actually true, "You have a point. They are undisciplined, impolite, and if I told one of them to jab a needle of something to make you sleep into your arm they'd probably grope you."

Her eyes flare wide in outrage, "They would not dare!"

You rub your chin, as if pondering, "No, if I told them directly, they would not grope you while you were awake...but it's better for all concerned if you stay conscious."

"And if they think of raping me, they should know that without my purity I am worthless to them, and to you."

"Well, your conversation is the highlight of my day, Lady Ahmad, so if you put it on and let me make a three-dimensional image to send to him, and to your husband to prove you're alive and well, I'll make sure nobody looks, not even me, and I'll have a woman make the images. Otherwise, I'll do it myself. Your choice."

>>
>>46762394
Which replenishes at the end of the session, yes. But, really, fuck not making this roll.

Luck is a crutch. No luck, dice only, final destination. Let's do this.
>>
>>46762380

She might, actually. If you made it impossible for her to get married or return to her father after taking literally all of her money, it would be her only way to deny you squeezing that last bit of money out of her.

And she'd do it.
>>
>>46762380
Not him, but we want to at least have her in a neutral disposition to us by the time we part ways, so that she doesn't send wave after wave of mercenaries at us.

Ideally, we'd have her at a positive disposition so we'd have a contact in high places, but that'll be a tall order, and we'd probably only manage it if we get raided and she gets captured by another pirate gang who treats her far worse, and we mount a daring rescue mission to save her; or something equally as contrived and improbable.

>>46762483

Alright, with a 25 you pass. I'll tell you straight-up that it was originally 20, but there was support for bringing the possibility of her being violated if she didn't comply into it, and no dissenting voices and that raised it to 25. I'm not saying that there are necessarily still honor killings on Mars, but a highborn girl who got fucked by pirates might have a hard time going home again even if she said it wasn't consensual, and she definitely wouldn't be able to get married.
>>
>>46762486
As Roarke is currently the primary face of our ship to her, so to speak, I would not advocate personally playing the bad cop. I'd say it's better for us to remain in a neutral disposition, so we seem neither weak nor overly cruel. Then, we could have two of our crew members do the good cop, bad cop routine if necessary.
>>
>>46762592

>>
You stop by the cell with the strange kid in it. He's young, you estimate perhaps eighteenish, with a disconcertingly direct and intense stare.

He lowers his hands to the floor and kowtows at your approach, "Effendi, are you the pilot of the Black Ogre?"

"The what?" It takes you a moment to realize he meant the Knuckle Kaiser, "Yes. Captain Roarke Starwind of the Iron Kestrels. Welcome to the Rhinehawk." After the sauna-esque heat of Fatima's scowl, this is like taking a step into the ship's freezer, and catches you momentarily offguard.

"My name is Mohammed al Tabir, great one. I want to know about it. I want to know what it's like, the Black Ogre. All my life, I have sought strength as a pilot, but my efforts were torn apart as though you were squashing a bug. Whenever you are ready to let me out, I will serve you as a faithful squire until I, too, become like the Black Ogre."

Mohammed. Have you ever danced with a woman you loved? It's sort of like that. You have to live in the present. Enjoy how she moves and how you lead her. Watch as she blushes when you bring her close. The battle field is the dance. Your opponent is the partner. Steel is your love. Bask in the sparks with every inch that you rend. When you feel the rhythm. There will only be you and your mech. You will become one. There will be nothing to stop you then.

It is how I fight. The closer I am to the enemy. The more of the rhythm I feel. Always chasing after that beat. In time you too will feel that perfect harmony. Welcome to the Iron Kestrels.

On impulse, you reach out and hit the release button. You're armed, although the gun is hidden by your jacket, he's unarmed, and if he's going to jump you best he tries it now while you have the upper hand. After all, you're quite confident in your ability to beat a teenager.

He stands up with a fluid sort of grace, and bows, "I will serve you to the death, Captain. I am skilled with the blade, but these skills are not in much demand, even those of us who are not especially pious must, on Mars, bow to those who say that the humanoid mecha are haram...so I have also acquired some skills with mecha-sized firearms."

He's a rookie, but that means he'll learn fast and learn what you want him to. Of course, there is another matter.

"My Captain, may I know the fate of the Lady Fatima? I find her extremely grating, but even so I hope you have been kind to her."

You quietly hope that she's being kind to Miles, "Yes. She's...she's just fine, maybe a little sore in the throat from shouting, but she had plenty of spirit when I last saw her. So, why are you so willing to just give up legit work as a mercenary to join me?"

He shrugs, "There is nothing for me on Mars. A bank account, an apartment on the outskirts of a crowded city. My greatest thrill has always been my work, but now that I have met a true master I wish to learn from you."

"What about the others? Will they join me?" You inquire doubtfully.

He shrugs again, "Not so easily. They might, our commander is dead and with it any chance of being paid is gone. I can speak to them as his second, perhaps they will lend some weight to your words on my account as Commander Ibrahim's lieutenant...but ultimately, it depends on your words and actions." He folds his arms, "I shall be most interested in observing how you command others."

You've acquired another Ace. Aces, along with the stats for the mecha in your hangar bay, will be listed on the master pastebin soon. So far you have Miles (a sniper) and Richard (a rocket specialist), as well as arguably Yoritomo (Reflexes 10, Mecha Melee +7, Mecha Gunnery +5, Mecha Brawling +5) even though he doesn't really fit into a squad.

With that out of the way, you approach the remaining cell with the six surviving pilots. What's your approach going to be?

>>

We used dismember BECAUSE his armour was damn high. It only worked out because his mech frame is 1 stage lighter than ours.

If we go against a heavier mech OR an armoured mech we would be fucked without the armour pen.

What are the Master Harpy's stats like cause when we get it fixed up we could give it to him
>>
>>46764340

Dismembers abruptly stop being as good against heavier opponents, though, I think it was discussed a thread or two ago.

Keep in mind, you're also not that far from the Pugilist upgrade, which eliminates the blind spot on your right side (which hasn't come up yet) for your parrying, and the Squilla Elbow to double your punches per round.

You make a 'cover me' gesture at two of the pirate guards standing nearby. They have automatic weapons, so it should be fairly short if one of the prisoners tries something funny. You push the release button and step into the cell, adjusting your shades, "Well well well..." You drawl, "Your lieutenant over there informs me you boys aren't going to get paid. I've got to say, that's disappointing."

They glower at you, but compared to Fatima's glower it's nothing.

"Now hold on, I'm about to make you a better offer." Their eyes glitter at this, like all mercenaries they can practically smell money. So you take off your glasses and give them a double-barreled blast of straight talk, "You're looking at the end of something you likely spent your whole life building towards, I won't lie. This incident is going to be all over the holos. After this failure of your contract you'll have no commission or posting to go back to on Mars, just normal drudgery that everyone endures. Work outside of a Scimitar's cockpit. You look like a competent and well-adjusted group, I bet you could even manage a modest home with a modest family with a modest job shining shoes or selling kebabs." Your voice trails off as they start angrily muttering, not at you, but at their bosses, "BUT! Are you willing to give up the lives you have? What you aspired to be; a pilot! Do you desire to test your mettle further, are you going to lose hope because the first time you left the pond for the ocean you saw how far you had yet to climb? I motion we decide what our course of action is regarding our new ship, and get started working on it, since there's really no reason to put it off.

If we're going convert it, we can send our technicians down to see what needs to be done, how long it'll take and how much it'll cost.

If we're going to sell it, we can start plotting a course for the most convenient fence we know.

Obviously, rolling back into port for our date with Sam with a blatantly stolen ship in tow would be a rather large faux pas.
>>
>>46765039
This, also make plans to get sloshed with our crew as a celebration for the first job after the ambush.
>>
>>46765039
I think we decided before hand to just sell it because we need the money now and it would be a pain in the ass to upgrade
>>
>>46764972

None at all. Firstly, even if you were switching them to a different mech, sims are common and prevalent and the most typical way to train pilots on a new mech. Or they can be like you and just do it on sheer balls and skill alone.

They do still have their Scimitars, just to confirm. The older woman technically had a Tulwar, but you can fix up the damaged Scimitar from the Heart of the Sunshine's bay for her if you want to make things more simple.
>>
>>46765089
Lets give her the Scimitar and use the Tulwar to buff up one of the mechs or scrap it for points so we can get another upgrade
>>
I'll be back in twenty minutes, decide whether you're going to Karen immediately (after a shower and fresh clothes) or going to celebrate with your crew first.

Also what you want to do with the ship.
>>
>>46765075
Fair enough, though now I think about it, we lose nothing by sending technicians down to get an estimate anyway, and get a better idea of what the opportunity cost would be.

Do we, as a character, even know how much the ship would go for on the market? There's no way any reputable fence would want to offer us a fair deal when we're selling it.
>>
>>46765142
Gotta boost that morale for our big comeback. Plus I want to see more of the crew you've introduced so far and maybe some of their interpersonal dynamics. Also I desire a pic related story.
>>
>>46765142
Celebrate with the crew. My choice is that we sell the ship, but sending crewmen to get an idea of the cost like >>46765144 said is also a good idea
>>
>>46765177
Oh and sell the ship, after taking one of the fancy rugs to hang on the wall.
>>
>>46765266
I'd prefer to refit it, sure its not instant money but we can have another ship of the same class as our own, gives us more room for growth.
>>
>>46765309
On the flip side we can find an already fitted battleship and just take that when we need it granted it will be harder but if we put the money from selling that ship into ours and our mechs we should be fine
>>
>>46765309
I'd prefer we fill out the Rhinehawk to full capacity of crew and mechs first. That way, we can maintain strength after we've split our forces, and the other ship can do its own piracy somewhere else, instead of having to remain with us. Makes us money, and the ship can be more useful than just as a gunboat.
>>
Selling the ship seems like a better idea. I'd rather have one really well equipped ship than an average one plus a mediocre one. Remember, our's will be the flagship of the pirate fleet that's gonna take down the Green Skulls!
>>
When we get done with business and move on to pleasure, vote we play Sam like a fiddle, because she's probably going to try to do the same to us

It might be tough to take an already fitted battleship with just the Rhinehawk, though. Military ships don't surrender when you kill their escorts and have nasty things like your deluxe CIWS. You might find larger ships that are worth less for resale, though.
>>
>>46765485
We do have Oda and his ship backing us up though
>>
You're glad you installed this bar on the ship. The old recreation room was wrecked in the battle against the Green Skulls, and you'd worried about the mental state of the crew without a place to relax. There are always the cabins, but too much partying there leads to problems of its own.

It's a tastefully dark-red room, Avi and Dr. Cohen in particular put a lot of work into it after you installed the Red Pumpkinseed's mohawk crest as the bar itself. The curving, bladelike piece of metal meanders its way across one wall, where one of the so-called bridge bunnies is polishing a glass and watching the screen where Miles and Richard are engaging in a competitive game of Bluegill Joe 3.

With the artificial HMIS fitted to each of them, they feel and perceive it like being in a real mech (mostly), but onlookers can watch on a projected screen that shows their little Bluegills dueling it out.

Incidentally, 3 is the new one. Bluegill Joe, the original, is the first one and the classic. Revolutionary for its time in realism and handling, and redefining the simgame genre by trying to replicate being a Bluegill pilot as accurately as possible, it had only a single weapon. A sword. You, however, found an alternate way to play. To start the stage, you either follow the prompt on the screen and draw your sword with its signature flourish and Joe's trademark 'For justice and peace!' line...or you take a few steps past the blinking 'start' line of the stage, and fight unarmed.
>>

I smell a challenge for the crew

As a kid, there was a particular mission you hated because the enemy Harpies swarm you en masse early on and are difficult to avoid in the bombed-out ruins of an old battleship. You found that fighting unarmed let you grapple them and use them as shields, though, and since you couldn't resheathe your sword once you drew it started relying on these tactics in play. Which might have a small effect on your unusual style of mecha combat today.

Bluegill Joe is based on the true story of an UJCIDF pilot in the early post-war years, Joseph Muragi, and his story of unlikely survival and overcoming adversity after his troop carrier was shot out from under him by the Gorgons, a now-extinct pirate fleet. Bluegill Joe 2 received a lot of flak from diehard fans for introducing new weapons and having a new story with a fictional protagonist, but it was also the first to incorporate the shock knuckles, which you're inordinately fond of. Three expanded the franchise further by continuing Two, introducing an improved competitive mode, and incorporating a 'Classical Mode' where your Bluegill moves faster, as in one, but only gets a sword.

The bridge bunny slips you a beer, glancing over at a table behind you, "New boys? Captain, I didn't know it was my birthday." She smiles warmly, and you glance behind you to see some of the Martians sitting with Avi, who's animatedly explaining the differences between this ship and the one they were on.

"We're celebrating early this year." You toast her, and she laughs, "How is the crew holding up?"

She frowns and resumes polishing the glass, "You have good timing. There was a lot of grief and a lot of...well...a lot of weirdness when you were gone. A lot of us lost people we cared for. You coming back was sort of symbolic, it brought us back together, like you were some kind of...not a symbol of vengeance, but a mark that the Kestrels were still here no matter what had happened to us. Bit of a miracle, really."

One by one, members of the crew come over to talk and drink with you. You actually have to turn down more than a few, opting to stay reasonably sober for your date in a few hours. As much as you want to play a few rounds of Bluegill Joe, the sheer number of people who want to ask you questions about the Knuckle Kaiser or talk about your performance in battle gets in your way. After all, they hadn't seen the Kaiser in action before, let alone witnessed it rip Tulwars to shreds and go toe-to-toe with Yoritomo's Osano-Wo, widely viewed as something of a monstrous armored hulk by Harpy pilots. It would be better to try when things aren't so fired-up.

Richard beats Miles three out of five times, she loudly blames him for picking a small arena and threatens to kick his ass offline.

Somehow, Doctor Cohen ends up sitting next to you, "So, you're having dinner with my granddaughter, are you?" He sighs, pushing a small tray of snacks over to you. You fish around aimlessly in it, with a muffled grunt of affirmation.

"Good, good! I remember when I, too, was a virile young sprout with a belly full of fire." He nods, making the loose skin on his neck wobble like an iquana's dewlap, "In fact, that's how my son was born, a night full of celebrating, one too many beers, this beautiful horticulture chief we'd just hired on..."

You finally select a snack without looking, raising it almost to your lips before realizing it's a pill, "Cornelius, what are these?"

His smile widens, "Why, saltpeter, of course!"

You don't believe him, but you put the damned thing down and get out of there before he really does try something to ruin your good mood.

You take the opportunity to wash and freshen up, your hair hanging in a carrot-colored mane around your shoulders as you select your best shirt and leather jacket. Much to your surprise, some of the crew have left you a little gift, a new jacket with a badge of the Kaiser's head on the shoulder and a crown surmounting the white hawk emblem on the back. You try it on. It's made from real leather, not the fake crap, black without being obnoxiously shiny. It's comfortable, and a bit longer than your old one, but you still need to wear it around a bit for it to truly fit just right.

Even with all of your preparations, you still run into Karen just leaving the bay. She's traded her cheongsam for her working coveralls, and she has a smear of machine oil on her nose and a big smile on her face until she sees you. She squeaks and covers her face, "Roarke, you're early! I haven't made myself pretty yet. Go! Go wait!" She looks around, flustered, "We're in space...there really isn't anywhere for us to go, are my quarters okay? They're pretty big."

>Are they okay?

Nah lets go to the observation deck?

Good luck brothers. I won't contribute for Karen route until we meet Red Siren.

First dinners don't lock out any of the routes, by the way.

You too, huh? I thought I was going to be the only one.

RIP the voter count

No, but it's difficult to remain impartial or make rational decisions where waifus are involved.
>>
>>46766380

What if I told you that, and I swear I'm not bullshitting for consensus, that her room was in large part an observation deck?

After all, she grew up on this ship, she's had a lot of time to find her ideal room and do what she wanted with it, and she's rocking a very high Technical Ability stat with a slew of mechanics-related skills.
>>
>>46766460
Don't worry I'll stick a Red Siren Poster on my Knuckle Kaiser drawing somewhere.
>>
>>46766490
Neat. Speaking of viewing the vastness of space constantly is there any difference in the affliction of space madness from those raised in stations as opposed to on a planet?
>>
>>46766460

You're telling me, I have to work hard to keep Magnetic Grappling Harpoon from stealing every scene.

>>46766265

Absolutely yes.
>>
>>46766490
Then that's fine. I did not know that. As long as Roarke is a proper gentleman.
>>
>>46766525

Planetnoids get it more quickly than spacenoids, that's the stereotype, but it happens to spacenoids too when they're exposed to isolation and the endless wheeling of the stars with no reference point for up and down. It does things to the human psyche.
>>
Feel free to drop any lines you want to drop on Karen. Build those relationship points.
>>
>>46766573
Its amazing how much solitary confinement can mess with a persons mind, and when you take away spatial awareness, well.

Karen confirmed as having Space Madness. Time to pack up boys.

It takes more isolation than that. Some people never get it. The most common cause is when someone's mech gets damaged and they float for too long without finding a colony or a ship or being somehow rescued. Weeks, sometimes months, out there with only your own voice for company and nothing to eat but meal bars, your perspective constantly shifting.

Well, at least her soul ain't weighed down by gravity. That's gotta count for something.

You hesitate for a moment, then see a way to spin this to avoid embarrassing her, "You keep your research in there, right? Maybe we could look at your plans for the Knuckle Kaiser?"

Her eyes go wide behind her spectacles, and she looks as though you just complimented her. "Yes! Yes we can, and...and I have a lot to show you, but go! Go go go!" She pushes gently on your chest, blushing, "I want this to be perfect."

You laugh, surrendering gracefully, and turn as if to go, "Twenty minutes, your quarters." What Cornelius said made you think of the hydroponic greenhouse the Rhinehawk carries, and you had the sudden impulse to stop by there and get something.

"Make it ten!" She towels off her face impatiently, "I'm very efficient." She releases the electromagnets in her boots and kicks off the floor, floating past you and sticking her tongue out. You can't help giving one of her pigtails a gentle tug as she passes, and she laughs and swats your hand away.

"Hey, Karen..." You call out.

"Hm?" She pauses with her hand on the railing.

"You were already pretty." Without even looking at her reaction, you adjust your glasses and walk away with just the right amount of nonchalance.

Time to go get her some flowers.

When are we getting electrified power fists? Creates a miniature emp at point of impact. -1 to whatever roll that servo uses for a full turn. On crit disables for a full turn.

Red and white dahlias? White lilacs? What message are we trying to send in giving her flowers?

Roses are probably out if we're not heading for a routelock just yet.

You choose a fairly mixed bouqet of flowers. After all, you're no botanist, but they look good and smell good and you remember she liked orchids.

Karen's room is one of those ones that has an unusual shape because of where it fits against the structure of the hull. It has a high, curving ceiling, and besides the ground floor has a second floor extending halfway across the room. Karen's waiting in a new cheongsam. This one is purple, with a peach-shaped cleavage window. The effect is slightly more cute than sexy, but she makes it work. She gasps at the flowers, but seems at something of a loss of what to do with them, eventually finding a container to put them in temporarily.

Her PC is on and plugged in at her desk, with a few dozen tabs of holonet displayed. Apparently she browses a lot of imageboards. She grabs it and turns it off with an embarrassed smile, before dragging you upstairs, "I know what you're about to ask me." She says demurely, sitting you down at the little table...it looks more like a card table than a dinner table, really...she's laid out some food on. The food is squeezed to the corners of the table by the massive portfolio in the middle, though, "I fixed all the circuitry in the head itself, I just need to program some nanotubes into the right configuration to repair the mask." She reaches out and touches your hand, "There's nothing for someone like me quite like seeing someone they care about come home safe because of your work."

>What say?

That....would be the Knuckle Kaiser's Final Love-Love ALL WAIFU COMBINE FINAL FORM?

"I try, although I don't know if I can ever call it safe. You do a lot for me, though, and I'm grateful...especially for this, do you cook often?"

"It's just grilled cheese, n-not anything special...but I make that a lot, so I'm good at it." She pulls her pigtails down over her shoulders nervously. "I think you're wrong, though, Roarke. Um. I can make you safe. I can give you superior firepower and a vastly increased sensor radius. You'll have a much more efficient blocking profile and improved performance, especially with this little...well...doohickey I've been working on..." She tries hard not to look too smug.

Overhead, her ceiling projects the sky immediately through the hull above, much as your cockpit monitors project what's outside the Knuckle Kaiser. The stars waltz slowly, gracefully by, in colors no light-polluted city on a colony or planet could see. The jewelry box of the cosmos is spread out before you.

"It's a pringle-shaped elbow piece that..."

Much of the conversation is about upgrades to the machine, about tweaking and improving it. Somehow, her chair gets moved around next to yours, and somehow her head ends up on your shoulder as she talks excitedly about something called the Colts System. That was a feature of Floyd Beck's Thoroughbred X, you vaguely remember, those floating gun-drones that followed his machine around. There's a poster of it on the wall in here. Bright yellow and black, like a wasp, with a black X across its chest. Looking closely, you can indeed see similarities between it and your own, although the head is too ornate for your tastes.

A tiny snore alerts you that Karen has fallen asleep, and you smile as you lift her up and carry her to bed. She seemed quite chipper and happy explaining her work to you, and you think that overall it was a good time for her, so you're content to let her rest...but she steals a march on you. Or more specifically, a kiss, smirking after she does and then gently pushing you away and rolling over to get comfortable in her mound of blankets.

Speaking of which, you're pretty tired yourself. You've done a lot for one day, so you decide to go get some sleep too.

Session ends here for the night, next one should be a bit less hectic. Thursday at the usual time.
