You are Tsukuda Ryouta, the 12th Division's investigator of abnormal occurrences.

You were allowed to take another break after your latest mission. This off-duty time is meant for recuperation. You won't be receiving any further assignments until you've fully recovered.

Before you go home, you buy something that can be had over tea. You've usually brought souvenirs from the Human World before, so suddenly appearing empty-handed might be inappropriate.

When you come back home, your mother meets you and hastily ushers you in, a bright smile on her face. Her smooth black hair flows down the back of her blue, flower-embroidered kimono. It's a more formal outfit than usual.

"Miyu-chan and I decided to take a bit of a walk. We just came back." She explains her uncharacteristically kempt appearance. "Having to dress up and act like a proper lady is really stifling. I haven't had to do that in so long... I just can't go out in these parts in what I usually wear at home, you know?" Shiori finishes her complaints with a sighs. As you enter the living room, you find the white haired, golden eyed Miyu to be sitting at the table wearing a smaller version of Shiori's outfit. Your mother twirls around, still holding your hand, and looks at you with concern. "Are you alright? You look tired. Hard day at work?"

"I'm fine." You say. She puts the back of her hand on your forehead but after finding no fever, she takes it away. Her brown eyes glance at the bag in your hand. She smiles again.

"So what did you bring for us today, Ryouta?"

"Honey cake."

"Great! You know what, let's have it right now. I'll go make some tea. Take a seat, I'll be back shortly." Shiori walks away, leaving you with Miyu. Her golden eyes have been looking your way ever since you've entered the room. It's only after you've finished your conversation with Shiori that she decides to speak up. Her voice, while undeniably that of a young girl's, is as dull and emotionless as always.
>>
>>46710133
"Welcome home, ONII-CHAN..." Just as she always does, Miyu awkwardly emphasizes the end of her sentences.

"Hello, Miyu. Have you been well?" You ask. The girl silently nods. You sit down next to her and unpack the dessert onto the table; Miyu keeps her golden eyes on you throughout the process. "Is something wrong?"

Before answering, the girl takes a moment to ponder over the question. "I'm not sure..." Her vague thought seems to have concluded abruptly, as the forced ending was absent. She speaks up again after another pause. "I'm not sure why you're asking ME."

There is something scrutinizing in those childish eyes of hers. When you don't respond to her, the girl tilts her head, as if she's trying to find the minute detail she's not seeing from another angle.

"Onii-chan..." Miyu begins in her regular monotone. "Have you been WELL? Is something WRONG...?"

There should be a little time to talk about something before your mother returns. Of course, it isn't necessary.

...

>"I'm fine. I'm just tired from my previous mission. It will probably pass."
>"I was hurt on my previous mission. Let's keep it a secret from mother."
>"Do you know how you came to be, Miyu? Would you like to know?"

"Considering yours, Urahara's and Shiori's responses, it seems clear that I must have damaged myself in some way due to over-exertion. Unfortunately, it's not something Urahara really understands, so I'm not sure what, if anything, can be done to heal."
>>
>>46710142
>"I'm fine. I'm just tired from my previous mission. It will probably pass."

Dont want to worry the lil sis with our shit.
>>
Theory: getting exerted past our limits bumps up our soul or somehow causes us to start reverting back towards a standard shinigami blade.
>>
>>46710275
Man, ever since the whole revelation I dont even know what the fuck are we anymore. Thank god Ryouta doesnt feel shit because I would be fucked up.
>>
>>46710275
I don't know, I'd really dislike it if we were stuck on a path of no return and could only get worse from now one, especially since we were told it wasn't too late earlier and the whole "becoming to human could kill you" doesn't really seem like it makes sense to bring up if that's no longer an option.

The way I hope it's like is that running B-ranked Analytical Mind takes up pretty much all of Ryouta's processing power, not leaving room for anything else, and we could learn to either seal that ability completely or just dial it back at will.
>>
>>46710320
The fun part is that not even Urahara knows the whole story. He know we're -like- his invention, but not quite the same. Like nothing in his explanation conveys those weird surges of instinct we get sometimes, including knowing the future.
>>
>>46710142
>"I was hurt on my previous mission. Let's keep it a secret from mother."
>>
>>46710335
I was super happy thinking this was some sort of Pinocchio but in bleachverse... Now I dont even know. Maybe if we find the hogyoku we can fix this? I dont fucking know.
>>
>>46710369
those weird surges of instinct we get sometimes, including knowing the future.
Isnt that analytical mind on steroids?
>>
>>46710400
Why didnt it include the greentext? Fucking hell.
>>
>>46710335
I doubt its analytical mind, that was worded in terms of efficiency, not in restriction of thought. I think its because he has such a little imprint footnote, so were only able to get the bare minimum from people and none of the inner details that drive actual emotion.

We should find out which is which if we can get better rietsu. Or find the hogyoku to wish ourselves (and our sister) to normal.
>>
>>46710216
>>46710221
>>46710385
On the one hand, I feel like Shiori might be our best bet at helping us, and she probably knows something's wrong already.

On the other hand, not wanting to make her worried or unhappy seems like something someone with feelings would do? Is that the reasoning you guys have?

I'm more worried that that won't be conveyed in the text.
>>
>>46710428
Arent we capped? the () it's the max cap in REIA.
>>
>>46710448
Its a little murky. But we know from experience that pushing our boundries has helped, and we did it against better logical judgement.
This character has emotional attachment to people, its right there.
>>
>>46710436
The idea is that we dont want our shit to be smeared all over the poor people that are caring and kind towards us. At least that's what I think it is and how I intend my vote.
>>
>>46710428
Even if Mushroom didn't directly say it caused restriction of thought, I think from context it seems clear that that is definitely what he meant.

Like
>Even if it is possible, could you do it now, under these circumstances? At what expense?
Makes it pretty clear to me at least that Analytical Mind B was at least meant to be a double-edged sword and not the only option that wouldn't get you killed.

You can disagree with the premise, I don't really like it either, but I feel like there's more than enough evidence to conclude that that's what Mushroom is going for.
>>
>>46710428
We won't find the Hougyoku and we won't get any wishes granted since that story is tied to Substitute Shinigami Quest. Which I still find concerning because that makes this quest seem likely to be a bad end.
>>
>>46710493
I dont think theres enough evidence to conclude either way, but lets put this discussion aside, we both want to find out. Lets hope neither of us are dissapointed with the answer.
>>
>>46710142
>other
"Yes, but I'm not sure if talking will do any good."
>>46710481
That seems kind of noble, but it also seems like that's least likely to help fix our current situation.
>>
>>46710519
We're gonna save everyone and we're gonna be a big happy family. Miyu is gonna be a normal girl YOU SHUT YOUR WHORE MOUTH ANON, YOU SHUT IT DOWN RIGHT NOW.
>>
>>46710540
We know efficient is not always right in this quest, anon.
>>
>>46710428
The thing is that I feel like Ryouta's current condition proves that he -was- working on feelings, because if he really did never have any emotional capacity no one would notice any difference. But instead, everyone close to Ryouta noticed immediately.
>>
>>46710546
I really really hope that that's still possible, but even if it is, I don't think it'll be due to a wishing orb. It'll be something we need to work hard and earn, which I find really upsetting since I don't have any idea right now how we might go about doing that.
>>
>>46710142
Voting over, writing!
>>
>>46710640
Tracking the fucking hogyoku is no small task bro.
>>
>>46710660
Like I said, we won't find either Hougyoku. The location of the Hougyoku is predetermined to be found by Urahara in Substitute Shinigami Quest, and the two wielders of the Hougyoku never met Ryouta.

It's possible there's a good explanation for that, but it really feels like the evidence is pointing towards our being doomed.
>>
>>46710216
>>46710221
>>46710240
The girl ceases her attempts to inspect you from a different angle. She sits up straight. Still in her usual monotone, she asks a question.

"How do you become a SHINIGAMI? Is it EASY? Is it DIFFICULT?"

Your time in the Academy wasn't something you'd call easy, but you did all the work required without slacking off and eventually graduated. Some people fared better at the training, others worse, despite undergoing the same exact program as you. "It depends on the person, Miyu. Did you want to know something specific?"

"Could I become ONE?"

You're not sure how to reply. "The work of a Shinigami is highly dangerous. Are you sure that's something you'd like to do, Miyu? It's a very serious decision."

Miyu firmly nods at the question. "I thought that if you didn't have to work alone, you'd be less likely to get HURT."

...

>"It should be easy for you to become a Shinigami and it's very likely that we'll be working together once you do."
>"I don't think you should become a Shinigami. It's very dangerous."
>"We may not have a choice in the matter. The Captain seems to want you to become a Shinigami."
>Other. (Write-in).
>>
>>46710721
"But what if you get hurt? Then where would we be?"
>>
>>46710707
>the two wielders of the Hougyoku never met Ryouta.
What happened after that quest finished is unknown, though. Ryouta could still meet them.
>>
>>46710707
And why are you assuming it's the same universe? I'm sorry I'm bad at remembering shit.
>>
>>46710768
I mean we had a prediction that the Hougyoku won't be found until X amount of time to start with.

On another matter, the two quests share Urahara and Hiyori regaining their posts at Squad 12, and I'm pretty sure Urahara even gave a similar vague explanation for how he beat Aizen that he gave Ryouta initially. It'd make more sense than not for it to be the same universe.
>>
>>46710825
Was it explicitly said by mushroom or just theorycrafting here?
>>
>>46710721
>"It should be easy for you to become a Shinigami and it's very likely that we'll be working together once you do."
Working together would be great. But should we really leave mother alone?
>>
>>46710850
I don't think he ever denied it, and in the April Fool's segment Urhara was able to answer questions pertaining to both quests. Like it's really not very baseless at all.
>>
>>46710874
Not baseless but not certain either, that's good enough for me to believe that there's a happy ending to this.
>>
>>46710851
It seems like most our away missions only take like a couple days, and we have several years in-between. Unfortunately it's possible that Urahara would change that when we get a partner.
>>
>>46710721
Damn this is a loaded question. Like Urahara definitely does have plans for her to become a shinigami and honestly I feel based on her being sealed, she'd be in a lot less danger than we are (also I'm not sure if her powers being sealed is something that can last forever or if she needs to learn to train her powers). On the other I'm afraid that she'd do the same stupid mistake we made and wind up fucking herself out of emotional development. Also Ryouta has previously expressed concern for her safety even if it's irrational.
>>
>>46710989
Like
>"Are you sure that's necessary?" You find yourself immediately questioning it. It wasn't a calculated action. Reflexive, impulsive; something that probably shouldn't have been done.

>"It is necessary." He rebukes. "You see, Miyu-chan's spiritual powers, even now, are rather overwhelming. I've suppressed them for convenience, but that won't last for long. She'll need to learn how to control those powers. And there's only one way, Ryouta-kun."

Two things seem clear, that Ryouta is worried about his sister, but also that if she doesn't receive training she might inadvertantly place everyone in danger.
>>
>>46710721
>"It should be easy for you to become a Shinigami and it's very likely that we'll be working together once you do.

But... Can you promise me you'll do your best to be careful and stay safe?"
>>
>>46711086
>>46710747
These are both me, I think we might need more time for this vote Mushroom, since there's a lot to talk about.
>>
>>46711065
>>46711086
Evidently we need to do some trainning with our sister.
>>
>>46711065
Why not guide her towards a non-combat division? Maybe that would be the best of both worlds.
>>
>>46710908
I'm pretty sure it is certain, but that just means that the Hougyoku probably isn't our only way out of this.
>>
>>46710721
I'm almost never alone on my missions. Wouldn't you rather stay here with mother? The choice is yours to make but I want you to think about what you want quite a bit before you choose.
>>
>>46711124
Healer division would be a good choice.
The captain is a beast, and high reitsu could allow her to pull off the upper end healing spells.
>>
>>46711109
If you need more time, you've got it!
>>
>>46711124
>>46711182
Given that she's Urahara's science project, I don't really think that's tenable.
>>
>>46711136
It's not certain because even if it's similar characters it may not mean the story will develop in the same way or that it will even have the intermissions of the other character. Could be a similar but not equal universe ready for our MC to tamper with it.
>>
>>46711190
She needs to learn how to control, and being useful is pretty much the best way to do it, under a captain who can contain her if shit hits the fan.
Urahara will just have to suck it up and explain himself a little, but in the end, we should stress its Her option to choose which division. (which will probably plonk her alongside us mind, but eh).
>>
>>46711124
She wants to work with us though. Ryouta is her strongest attachment and therefore probably her best chance to feel emotions for.
>>
>>46711231
We cannot have her go with us so maybe we can convince her that if we ever get hurt she'd be the one to take care of us. That way she's out of harms way and she feels useful.
>>
>>46711267
Do you remember how much of a big deal it was for Ryouta to finally have a goal when he decided that he would one day return shioris feelings properly? Wanting to protect and work with Ryouta is miyus version of that.
>>
>>46710721
"...Urahara explained that he planned to have you become a shinigami, and work alongside me, and without thinking, I questioned him. Not because I didnt want to spend more time with you, but because I don't want to see you hurt.

That being said, it seems like due to your power, becoming a shinigami might actually be safest for you. Can you promise me you'll be careful and try to get along with your classmates, even if you don't understand them?"
>>
>>46711324
So what we bring her with us we suddenly go out of our depth and we get her killed, or make her have a first seat to our death, GREAT CHOICES ALL AROUND.
>>
>>46710721
Ending the voting here and writing!
>>
>>46711324
>>46710721
So how about something that doesn't dismiss her desire to keep us safe, but makes it clear that we want her to be safe and happy as well?
>>
>>46711363
Or she saves our ass and we both live.
Shit can go either way.
>>
>>46711400
>out of our depth

Yeah, she saves us and gets killed.
>>
>>46711433
>everything is bad forever

Its ok anon. Show us where the naughty QM touched you.
>>
>>46711433
But then we can go full rage-mode and self-destruct like the jobber we are!

CHIAOTZU!
>>
>>46711460
It's not bad, it's a bad idea to have her in missions because if shit goes south we can stop drop and roll but we cant do that if someone else is in danger since we have to take care of them. And we certainly cannot control what she chooses to do in any given scenario, no anon I dont want the lil' sis in harms way. She can shinigami but she cant come with us.
>>
>>46711391
But all I did was do a couple of increasingly shitty write-ins, I don't know what you can do with that.

Like I THINK we ultimately went with something like >>46711393
But I'm not sure if we accidentally dismiss her feelings or further distance ourselves from ours.
>>
>>46711516
She's stronger than us anon. And she'll follow our every order because we're her onii-chan
>>
>>46711564
What the fuck part of "out of our depth" do you not understand? Everybody is fucking stronger than us, that doesnt mean they're stronger than the unknown enemy.
>>
>>46711516
It is kind of bad precedent that every shinigami we've encountered thus far in the world of the living would have died without our assistance.

Maybe the secret to keep our sister safe is that we need to stop being a hero and learn to quit?
>>
>>46711617
If that's your reasoning then we should quit being a shinigami too.
>>
>>46711635
Like if we uncover that the hougyoku isn't responsible for the current situation, maybe we should just call in for reinforcements instead of trying to save the day on our own.

That reminds me, when we sort ourselves out, we need to talk to Hanae about what the fuck her damage was.
>>
>>46711690
I dont know if we can keep living in seiretei if we are no longer a shinigami, and besides we need to find a way to fix ourselves and the imouto so we need to be on the field. We're taking risks so they dont have to.
>>
I bet Hanae and her division are shadowrunning about the mysterious 12th division member with a made up position and how he protected Hanae from a Cero and extracted the bullet from her without surgery

"It's certainly possible for you to become a Shinigami. I suspect that it's very likely we'll work together if you decide to do that. However, I suggest that you take some time to think about it."

Miyu nods. You continue. "In the end, it's your choice to make, Miyu. But neither mother nor I wish to see you get hurt. And yet if you feel so strongly about it that the risk doesn't matter to you, this may not be something I can dissuade you from."

Her unique nature makes this sort of behavior unusual. You originally became a Shinigami because it didn't seem appropriate to have spiritual powers and yet leave them unused. Miyu's motivations, however, are much more personal. That's why it's unusual; it doesn't adhere to the normal - to your - pattern of behavior. "You need to weigh this decision very carefully, Miyu. You should think not only about me, but about mother. You should think about how your well-being affects us. You should think about the effort this would take. There are many factors to consider. It would be best for you to take all of them into account before you make your choice."

"I understand, ONII-CHAN." She replies. "I'll think about it, and then I'll tell you my DECISION."

Shiori soon returns to serve the tea. Your mother sits down on her knees at first, only to then stand up a moment later and once again plop down onto the tatami floor, this time stretching her legs underneath the table. A relieved sigh escapes her lips. A wavy, satisfied smile curves her small mouth.

The honey cake you've brought is laid out on the table. Miyu prods at it with her spoon, carefully inspecting the dessert. On the other hand, Shiori eats a spoonful without dwelling on it.

"Miyu-chan and I explored the Seireitei for a while. I've been looking into the education options available around here. Miyu-chan can count, read and write, but that's not really enough. I wouldn't mind teaching her at home like I taught you, but..." Shiori pauses thoughtfully as she chews on another spoon's worth of cake. "Professional education is much more accessible here than it is in Rukongai, so I thought it'd be a waste to not use this opportunity."

...

Take her aside privately and tell her what Urahara told us about Miyu's spiritual powers and how being a shinigami might unfortunately be necessary.

"Did you know that Shinigami training includes education?"

Shiori raises her eyebrows. "I didn't know that. Are you proposing that as a free substitute? Money really isn't a problem. Even if it was... I think you can imagine why I wouldn't accept that kind of option."

You nod. It's dangerous work. "However, Miyu seems to want to do it."

"Really? Wants to? That's... something that should be making me happy." Your mother glances at the white haired girl in question, who still seems more interested in the appearance of her cake rather than its taste. She lets out a sigh. "And I think it does. I just wish she'd want something else."

Miyu's eyes meet Shiori's. Your mother smiles and turns her gaze away, thoughtfully staring into her teacup. Miyu looks back at her slice of cake. "I don't know, Ryouta. As a parent, I feel like I should protect her from those kinds of dangerous ideas. But at the same time, in Miyu's case... I don't know what would be better."

It might not happen again. Miyu might not have another wish. It seems that Shiori understands that, but a frown makes her dislike of the idea rather clear. "I don't like having to send my kids off to what's basically the army. I don't want to worry twice the amount I already do. I just can't give approval lightly, even if Miyu says she'd like to do it."

"I understand. I told her to think about it carefully."

Shiori nods. "Then I suppose it's... up to her. I value her wishes. I won't disregard her decision." She takes Miyu's hand. The little girl glances up at her adoptive mother, momentarily distracted from the honey cake.

"Thank YOU..." She mutters, and then turns back to her dessert.

Unfortunately, Miyu's spiritual powers may be a problem. If she decides against becoming a Shinigami, you'll have to think of a solution to that issue. Perhaps your Captain could suggest something... This is something you should think about as well.

(1/2)
>>
>>46712541
You stay quiet; the conversation pauses. Shiori rests her cheek on a hand as she continues observing her adoptive daughter. The little girl has finally split off a small part of the cake, slowly moving it towards her mouth. Finally, she bites down.

She lets out a strange noise. An indecisive sound bordering between a squeak and a gasp. A strange, befuddled noise that mixes together surprise and wonder. Her golden eyes widen slightly.

"This is... YUMMY..." Tsukuda Miyu mumbles something like that with the spoon still in her mouth.

...Somehow, this is-...

She snaps out of her brief surprise only so that she can take her next bite. And then the next. She finally notices that she's being observed - her golden eyes meet yours. She stares as blankly as she always does, and yet there is something expressive in those golden eyes of hers now; somehow, the blank look on her face quite clearly expresses confusion at your undivided attention.

The pause is brief. It seems that she ran out of patience. Miyu swallows the bit of cake and proceeds with the rest. Her careless eating sticks a crumb to the corner of her mouth.

...The cutest thing.

Shiori pounces the little girl like an animal. She wraps her arms tightly around Miyu, pulls her in as closely as she can, presses her cheek into your little sister's crumbed one, shakes her around in her captivated clutches, and well, basically completely smothers her.

Miyu maintains her impassive look as she's being flung through the air like a cute, plushy toy by a woman who just may have completely lost it. Shiori laughs in an unusual manner befitting that suspicion. "This is exactly what I mean, Ryouta! How could I? How could I let such a small, defenseless, innocent little girl out into the cruel world!? Could anyone who'd do such a cruel thing even be considered a human being?!" She screams.

The plus means it can reach B rank for certain situations and return to C afterwards
>>
>>46712719
Yeah but
>By dedicating additional mental processes towards raw analysis, this skill may be increased up to A-Rank. However, reverse conversion is a much more complicated process than that, as beginning from B-Rank, the user loses the ability to pinpoint what's absent in the first place.

Considering that it takes a spontaneous moment to cause us to revert, I'm not sure it's really something we can exploit. Like I don't know it'd be great if we could somehow program ourselves that B-rank and higher is our "shikai" and only lasts either for a predetermined amount of time or as long as we have a certain amount of energy, but I have no idea how to do that.

As the older brother of the girl in question, you should do something about this. "You probably shouldn't treat your daughter like a small, hungry, cute, fluffy, adorable toy, mother."

You don't think that helped. On the contrary, it looks like her clutches have grown even more vicious. Miyu lets out another weird noise.

"I think you're hurting her..." You say. The strength of Shiori's hug finally begins to weaken, her adoring squealing ceasing.

"It's fine once in a while!" Your mother replies and chuckles, still refusing to let go completely. After a while, she settles on simply patting her head.

"Did something HAPPEN...?" The ruffled but still nonplussed Miyu finally voices her confusion.

"No, no, Miyu-chan. Did you like the cake? Ryouta-oniichan can bring you more. Really, Ryouta?" Shiori asks. Miyu, too, looks up at you expectantly.

You nod. You didn't think about it much when you bought it. It just didn't feel right arriving empty-handed.

"Thank you, ONII-CHAN."

Well, it's certainly a good thing that everything has worked out.

...

That evening, Miyu announces her decision firmly.

"Onii-chan, I've thought about it, and I think that I still want to become a SHINIGAMI."

Just as you've promised Miyu, you take her to the Academy on the following day. You walk around the Academy's wooden halls bustling with students, show her the layout, observe a few classes, listen to a lecture for a while. While you've never attracted much attention during your time as a student, or even as a uniformed Shinigami during your revisits to this place, Tsukuda Miyu stands out quite spectacularly because of her unique appearance. The students and instructors gawk at the white haired, golden eyed, non-uniformed girl walking around and staring at anything her brother tells her to look at. You hear someone thinking that she is some kind of a princess from one of the greater noble houses, while another group gossips about the possibility of her being somehow related to the white haired Captain of the 10th, or perhaps even the Captain herself.

Even though you try your best not to interrupt any of the lessons or attract attention, just appearing in the vicinity of a class does exactly that. Well, you don't suspect that you can get away with walking around unsupervised for much longer. But conveniently enough, just when you think that, a familiar figure approaches.

"Ryouta-kun?" Minami Hikari, with her black hair tied up in a usual bun, uncertainly calls out your name. She seems to be putting up quite the effort in order to not ogle your little sister just like everyone else. "Did you, um, need something?"

"Hello. I'm showing my little sister around the Academy. She wants to become a Shinigami."

"Oh, is that so? I thought you didn't have any siblings. Well, I can show her around! I don't have any classes today, so I'm free." Hikari crouches down a bit to get her eyes to the same height as Miyu's and smiles. "Hello! I'm Minami Hikari. Um, I'm a friend of your brother."

>>
>>46714566
"HELLO. My name is Tsukuda Miyu; nice to meet YOU." Miyu replies in her usual bizarre way of speaking. Hikari's smile grows increasingly nervous; it doesn't look like she expected something like that. The two awkwardly shake hands.

You speak up again. "Thanks for the offer, Hikari-san, but we're just about finished looking around. I'd appreciate it if you could explain the enrollment process to her, though."

The instructor nods. "Ah, that's fine! You see, Miyu-chan, the way enrollment here works is..." She explains the entire process in a manner that's fairly easy to understand. When her explanation draws to a close, she mutters something unusual. "You know, I can't help but get this feeling that we've met before, Miyu-chan. I mean, I'm sure I wouldn't just forget if I saw someone like you before, so we couldn't have actually met before, but still... It's kind of strange. Maybe we, um, were fated to meet, Miyu-chan!"

Hikari chuckles.

Is that really just her feeling?

"Is that SO?" Miyu ponders idly.

...

After the tour of the Shin'o Academy, you take Miyu back home and then reunite with Hikari at a park roughly halfway between your house and the Academy. As she's said, she had no more classes for the day, so it was her idea to arrange a meeting somewhere away from her workplace. It was fairly convenient, so you've agreed.

Unfortunately, the weather doesn't seem suited for an outdoor meeting. The blue sky is hidden behind dark clouds; the wind is much harder than the usual breeze, even if not especially colder than the norm of these parts. It looks like it's ready to rain.

The girl is sitting on a bench, her sheathed sword occupying the space next to her, but she promptly puts the weapon away on her lap when she sees you approach. You sit next to her. Her smile looks considerably less strained than usual.

"Hello again, Ryouta-kun!" Hikari cheerfully exclaims. She doesn't seem bothered by the impending storm. "What did you want to talk about? Is it something important? Or did you just want to, um, hang out?"

...

Maybe it's just because the other Bleach Quest is doing the Muramasa arc right now, but with Ryouta's dilemna in how becoming a human could destroy him, what if he instead "became" an existence similar to a manifested Zanpakuto spirit. Like they're not human, but they seen to have feelings just fine. Admittedly they tend to be focused on one aspect, but that doesn't really seem to be a hard limit.

For all we know, Ryouta could just turn into a shinigami sword. I wouldnt count that as destroyed, but if he could turn back and forth, i doubt itd be hard to find a wielder.
>>
>>46716930
That is a risk I considered, and it probably wouldn't be fun. Like the person best suited to wield us would be Shiori, but I don't think Urahara would let her continue her NEET lifestyle if she had us in her corner.
>>
>>46716964

Well, it could be that when Urahara created Miyu, his goal wasn't "make something that can copy Kyouka Suigetsu" anymore, but instead "make an existence similar to that of Ryouta". And we don't know who made Ryouta, why, and the extent of their resources and timeframe.

Not sure we want to know either. The true nature of Asauchi... isn't pretty.

"How are you doing, Hikari-san?"

"Well! Um..." She speaks up rather enthusiastically at first, but then immediately follows up with mumbling. "It's... been hard. Being a teacher isn't an easy job. Well, I guess being a Shinigami isn't easy in general, but, um... this is different. You have people trusting you, relying on you, expecting things from you... um... I guess it's the same for any other Shinigami, isn't it...? It must seem like I'm being petty..."

She lets out a dejected sigh.

"No, I don't think so." You try to encourage her a little.

"Really? Well... I guess what I'm trying to say is, um... it's a different kind of pressure. It takes a lot of time and dedication. Every student's unique. Some people can't just 'learn', so you need to figure out a way how to make them. I always feel really nervous talking to my students. And some of them can get pretty intimidating, too. Some of them are even older than me, or they look that way. And some are more talented than me... It always makes me happy to see them reach their best, but it's never easy to guide them there. And having to do that day in and day out... it's really tiring, Ryouta-kun..."

Hikari turns your way, but shies away from keeping eye contact. The instructor takes up her scabbard, placing the hilt of her sheathed sword on her shoulder. It's like she's hugging her sword. She continues talking, a somewhat reminiscing smile on her face. "And I have to take care of Moeka-chan, too. I love her, I really do, but she's got to be the most tiring student of them all."

She chuckles. You think you can understand what she means by that. You don't even want to imagine what it would be like to tutor that Kirino Moeka. "How is she doing?"

(1/2)
>>
>>46718040
"She's being entrusted with missions again. Moeka-chan will be heading to the Human World a few days from now. I think she's learning to keep herself in order when it counts. Not that she'll ever stop being a lazy bum in actuality." Hikari says that and laughs. "I don't know if I'll miss her in the upcoming month. No, I think I certainly will. I just won't miss having to babysit her and forcing her to work harder than not at all. That's her 'default', and it takes effort to get her out of it."

She berates her troublesome sister cheerfully, as if discussing something fun rather than frustrating.

"To tell you the truth, I'd like to temporarily take Moeka's place as your student."

"Really? That's unexpected, Ryouta-kun. I've never thought you'd need my help again. For some reason, um, it kind of makes me happy." She doesn't seem against the idea. Even though it may be tiring, it doesn't sound like she's not refusing you only out of kindness.

"If I'll be a burden, I'll figure something out on my own."

"No, no. I don't mind, really. For some reason I don't find it difficult to talk to you." Hikari pauses abruptly, glancing your way again. The eye contact lasts for a few seconds before she suddenly directs her eyes aimlessly skywards. She mumbles something, her face flushing a slight pink. "Um... so what did you need help with, Ryouta-kun?"

"I feel like I'm ready to improve my Kido. Training by myself doesn't bring"

"Kido again? Just like old times, h-huh?" She mutters, chuckling nervously. "Well, we have a month before Moeka-chan returns. I can dedicate that time to... haha, um, I mean, I can tutor you for that long."

"That should be fine. Do you think I'll be able to learn a few spells during that time?"

(2/3)
>>
>>46718174
"Without a doubt. You're way better at it than Moeka-chan, so I feel like I could teach you a lot in just a month."

Could Hikari have also missed Moeka's true potential? Or is she talking specifically about Kido, which does require a more mental effort rather than spiritual? If it's the latter, there's no arguing with it.

Over the next month, you'll be tutored by Minami Hikari. The first area you've focused on is Bakudo. In addition to improving your general competency with Kido, you've learned a new spell.

>Tsukuda Ryouta's Demon Magic Skill: D ---> C

Choose one.

...

>Bakudo #21 - Sekienton. D-Rank. Allows the user to reestablish stealth immediately, allowing a free Presence Concealment check even while in plain sight or in combat.
>Bakudo #26 - Kyokkou. D-Rank. Increases the user's Presence Concealment by one Rank for as long as the spell is maintained and makes the user impossible to spot with sight.
>Bakudo #39 - Enkosen. D-Rank. Creates a D-Rank shield that can be used to block attacks of physical and spiritual nature.
>>
>>46718249
I feel like the shield is unecessary with the zanpakuto we copied, but between the two stealth spells, I like the sound of #21 more but I'm worried that if someone is able to pierce our stealth once, they'll be able to do it again soon afterwards.

Though I'm also worried of how draining #26 would be.

While 21 is useful, being able to avoid being seen means we can prep other kido and do stuff, even if they can still sense us.
Basically hiding what we are going to pull next.
