How do you roleplay a cleric of Bane?
>>
>>46613644

Big Guy memes.
>>
>>46613644
Bane's favorite ritual is when two different planes (like two elemental planes, for example) collide and combine. Of course, no one inhabiting the planes survives the process.
>>
>>46613676

Don't actually do this unless you and everyone you're playing with are all gargantuan faggots.
>>
>>46613723
>gargantuan
For you.
>>
>>46613706
They also favor skin grafts. Removing them results in rather high amounts of displeasure.
>>
>>46613644

his favorite rituals are the ones that're extremely painful
>>
>>46613751
Bane's cultists also can't make friends, or bring allies somewhere along with them.
The fabled Mosquito Man is one of the avatars of Bane.
>>
>>46613644
It's difficult to play them as part of a group, since they don't get to bring friends.
>>
>>46613644

One must be prepared to turn a disadvantageous situation into an advantage through prior planning, intentionally being captured for example.

But one must also be prepared to hide evidence for the long term, like making sure the correct number of bodies are found to appropriately disguise one's death.
>>
>>46613783
On the contrary, a supreme act of devotion by a worshiper of Bane would be to bring friends along for a planewalk.

Devotees of Bane are incredibly loyal to those who hire them.

>>
>>46613644
Bane's worshipers don't care about him much from a religious perspective.
They're only in it for themselves, or rather, for what Bane can do for them.

Bane's servants, and his clerics in particular, are ruthless, power-grubbing, and domineering.
Bane's clerics probably show a little more faith than his other servants, but they're still just paying lip service.
>>
>>46613644
Wear masks. Nobody cared who you were until you put them on.
>>
>>46613853
I think it's that Bane's worshippers can't make friends, but whoever they hire are extremely loyal to them instead.
Makes for good Lawful Evil dynamic.
They won't be friends with people, but they are good at the whole "master-minion" dynamic thing.

>colossal
For you.

Of course!

For a non-baneposting answer, considering all the AD&D bestiaries, you're pretty much required to call your stuff bane-[something]. You raise undead ? Nope, banedead. You don't become a lich, you become a banelich. You don't set a guardian monster, you put a baneguard. You recruit a naga ? It's actually a banenaga ? You cast fireball ? FireBANE you mean ! And you use your banesword to defend your banelair against banenemies and get their banemoney to gain baneinfluence among the banemortals.

You have been put in this world to raise the brand-value and name-recognition of Bane, you bet you'll do so ! The alternative is baneishment anyway...
>>
>>46613952
Someone, get this hothead outta here.

On the topic of hotheads, the worst act of blasphemy of a Bane's worshipper is acting without a proper plan.
Nothing good will happen if you don't have a master plan prepared beforehand.
>>
Okay, this thread given me enough information to write up a short entry on the topic of deity called BANE.
Give me a second.

Name: BANE
Alias: The Masked Man
Alignment: Lawful Evil

BANE is the god of choice for most scheming evil overlords.
The worshippers of BANE are gifted with tremendous charisma whenever dealing with their minions, and have an affinity for sadomasochism. However, BANE doesn't recognize friendship as a proper relationship and frowns upon any attempts to interact with your minions beyond "master-servant" relationship.
The symbol of BANE is a mask grafted directly onto the worshipper's face, which symbolizes the belief of "no pain, no gain" that BANE worshippers accept - after all, sacrifices are always necessary to enact whatever master plan they are concocting.
BANE's major domains are Trickery (which is defined by calculated planning and scheming), Suffering (self-inflicted pain and pain inflicted on others), while the minor domains are Fire (the symbol of a successfully performed master plan) and Death.
Also, appropriately, the very first spell of the Suffering domain is called Bane.

The closest existing DnD god that can be compared to BANE is probably Kossuth.
>>
>>46613644
You do not roleplay a cleric of Bane. You must be born to it. Molded by it. You cannot have played any other character until you were already a man.

literally why OP?
Y U DO DIS?
>>
I played one using the 4e take on him, which is a vaguely fascist one. Order brings discipline, which brings strength.

Which can be an appealing philosophy in a D&D style world where every town is raided by bandits/orcs/dragons. I played him mostly as an unsympathetic dick, who took any and all opportunities to point out where people could have helped themselves.

"Of course, I understand, you built up this strong mining town, struck some good veins, and immediately knew that nothing ever raids mining towns out in the mountains. Hellfire, were a pair of ballistae just beyond your means?"

He sometimes came across as almost a survivalist. "Heaven forbid your goddamn town have a functioning militia. Who would tend the fucking maypoles if people actually WORKED? AND HAS NO ONE IN THIS FUCKING COUNTRY HEARD OF FOOD STORES? 'This winter is quite hard!' The fuck it is. Five years ago, that was a hard winter. This is just poor stockpiling. This is why you assholes need to be ruled. You're like dogs that given a yard of leash tie themselves to a tree and end up pissing in their own face.'

If I remember right in some of the old sourcebooks you were supposed to be evil ambitous and backstabbing.

but then later books said Bane got tired of his worshippers being crippled by infighting and now your supposed to be evil, ambitious, and efficient.

So aim high
be relentlessly ambitious,
work hard,
work smart,
be creative,
be ruthless when it is useful to be ruthless,
and while you can be petty, don't let it ruin what you have going.
>>

>USER WAS BANED FOR THIS POST
>>
>>46613644
banishment from his realm is the ultimate punishment, but you're not allowed to harm them afterward
After all, why would someone shoot a man, before throwing him out of a plane?
>>
>>46617908
So when will I have permission to worship?
>>
>>46618444
Actually, you're allowed to harm them only AFTER they're ejected from the plane.
>>
Can your Cleric make a Talisman like mine can? Because do that shit and make it like, I dunno, users heal in the darkness or some stupid shit.

Devote your character's entire...character...to their unyielding belief in what they interpret as Bane's will. I do this with my Goddess in my tabletop, and she's patron of rot and eating people. So, I take her teachings to mean that all things have a set end and will decay at some point and that through the decay of structure and order and belief and flesh there is rebirth, and through the consumption of the dead they are reborn through you. So, make some beliefs.

Here: The world is divided into the Small guys and the Big guys, and they are only Small or Big on a case by case basis, for you. CIA failed to understand this because he was a Small guy in mind as well as body. Being a Big Guy must be a belief, a mindset. Be a Big Guy in your beliefs and actions and be mighty and be faithful. Do everything intensely and devote a hundred percent of yourself and you follow His word, the Path of the Big Guy.

It's important to remember that Bane is a Big Guy for his followers. He might live one in the wreckage to save a larger group but he also throws out awesome stuff like Baneliches, Banedead, and Banelars to make sure that the fire is always rising.
>>
>>46623695
>Bane lacks a divine immunity to fire

This explains the precaution against hotheads - and the insistence on making fires rise(as opposed to, say, spreading, which is what a flame-deity would encourage).

Bane is the diety of fascisism, tyranny, etc. He's very much centered around ends justify the means despotism. Everything from benevolent dictators to tinman autocrats and corrupt ministers worship him. He puts the LAW in lawful evil, so much so his clerics can even be LN.

Yes. They constantly wage war another. It is an eternal war between Bane's disciplined legions and Gruumsh's hotheaded hordes.

Followers of Bane are highly loyal but as hired guns they are among the most expensive followers in the universe. Naturally these high cost individuals are the mortal enemies of Those That Do It For Free; by some sick twist of fate these hotheads are unable to coexist with those who wish to make the fire rise.

A Cleric of Bane is probably better as an antagonist or BBEG, as they cannot bring friends and do not associate well with hotheads, though as a non-antagonistic character in game they could simply be a BG.
