You're Brin Wabien, at this point you should consider yourself to be a fully fledged student of the Sigil School and Research Castle in Broting. The way you became one is... Interesting needless to say, but for now, you have other things to worry about.

Your day was started off with a test of your talent, apparently you're one of a kind because not only can you see what's a real sigil. But you're also capable of reading them no matter how hard age tarnished the writing, with perfect accentuation and pronunciation. Even if you don't actually understand what exactly you're saying. On top of that, you've been told that there's an organization called The Slanes, originating from the country up in the north, the Rusada Kingdom. And apparently, they're very much interested in your gift, sadly, not in a way that'd be beneficial to both parties, to say the least. Anyway, right now you have just finished your dinner. Getting yourself clean you begin to wonder.

There's an awful lack of students. In fact, you're not even sure if there's more people than you've met so far, minus the private army soldiers on post.

>Go to your room. You don't even know how it looks like because of the extreme time constraint put on you so far.
>Wander about, this is going to be your new home for quite some time. Might as well learn how it looks like.

You might as well start roaming around. If this is going to be your new home, you probably should learn the layout and not get lost too often. Even if you can ask the soldiers on post, it still feels stupid to actually let that happen to you.

Slowly killing time, you wander about. You see that the entire interior of the Castle looks brand new, and not a single small speck of dust is left. All the pots and flowers, walls, paintings, floor, tables, just everything, is polished to the point where you could use it to blind someone. Kind of stupid now that you think about it, eyes for people here must be something very important, after all, you can't read sigils when blind. Or so you think and hope.

As you learn the layout, you eventually wonder to a bit more secluded area of the Castle, you also notice the lack of guards on duty, which makes this place extremely spooky now that you're left without protection. What's more, you spot the slightly opened doors, just a small slit, but it's enough to hear people talking.

It's Judwig and Helia. You can only guess that this is the staff room.

>Eavesdrop, you might as well learn something.
>No need to spook or stalk anyone. Return to your room and kill time.
>Continue wandering about in a different direction, you still have lots to unveil here.

Aight, a tie.

1 is eavesdrop,
2 is wandering about again.
>>
>>46541865
You're not about to get into potential trouble just for eavesdropping someone you shouldn't. Besides, you can't imagine them talking about anything interesting, they're teachers for gods' sake.

So you continue walking about in a different direction, making note of what leads where. You even find a shower! But you heavily question the reason for it to be that big, it's enormous, outright unnecessary. You can only guess that it's for the soldiers, but then again. They have their own barracks. If it's neither, then it's a waste of money. Nevertheless, you continue, checking out the place until you are spooked by something. Or someone rather.

Just as you were about to turn around the corner, you nearly went straight into a person. With a gasp, both of you step away and in complete surprise. You have no idea how you didn't notice him, considering that steps leave pretty huge echo in this Castle.
"..Who the hell are you?" He says. He looks like Tod if you have to be honest, also ginger hair, but he's probably twice his size. In fact, he's rather ripped and muscular. And holding some sort of book at his chest.

Well, here's a student, probably. Hopefully.

>"Uh... I'm Brin Wabien, new student, hi."
>"..I was about to ask the same."

"Uh... I'm Brin Wabien, new student, hi." You say, looking up at the dude. Gods, he's really intimidating for some reason, probably because he towers over you in a few ways too much.

He looks at you, staring you over with immense confusion, as if you're someone who's really not supposed to be here. Eventually however, he steps in forward with a bit of distrust in his movement, something you can't blame him. The soldiers around you don't move, but you sense that they're watching you both.

"..I am Rosbit, Rosbit Rasb." He says, extending his arm for you to shake, which you do, slowly. And oh dear lord does your hand hurt, his grip is death inducing. You try your best not to wince, but it's probably clear that you were in a bit of pain.

"..Why are you here?" He asks, now you notice that his accent is.. Weird, a bit off, not what you're used to hearing. Oh, now you remember.

This accent is native to people coming from the north, the Rusada Kingdom.

>"Well, it's a, uh, long story." Avoid telling the truth.
>"I've been... Added, to this school recently, you?" Don't say the truth just yet.

"I've been... Added, to this school recently, you?" You are not going to lie, but you're not going to answer that question completely. Besides, if you get a friend, it might be useful. You are getting a fresh start after all.

He lowers his arm that holds the book, you noticed that it's about sigils, which really doesn't surprise you. However, Rosbit doesn't step back, he just continues staring at you with that uncomfortable 'Why are you here?' type of glare, which is getting a little bit annoying and honestly scary.

"I have wanted to explore and learn more about sigils. This school was the closest I had in mind." He replies, you have to admit, he sounds pretty blunt. Whether it's because he doesn't treat you as equal or it's just the way he speaks is up to debate.

"I do not remember you being introduced." He continues.

"Ah, well. I got here pretty late, so I guess they didn't have a lot of time to prepare, I guess." You reply truthfully, rubbing the back of your head to kill some of the uncomfortable feeling inside of you.

To your response, he just nods slowly, his stare seemingly turning a little bit less invading.

"What made you choose this school?"

>"Oh, same as you! I just wanted to learn more about sigils, they're totally cool." Lie.
>"Well, funny story, I was a bit.. Forced to go here." Partially tell the truth.
>"I have a natural born talent to read sigils, so I was taken here." Truth.

"Well, funny story, I was a bit.. Forced to go here." You continue balancing on the lie and truth line, not wanting to go too far to either side. Gods knows what happens if you do that.

However, you are afraid that dragging this talk further will undermine any sort of ground you are standing on, so as he's left in even more confusion after your question, you blubber out.

"Anyway, I gotta go."

And turn around, walking towards your room, not exactly in a haste, but you don't just walk either. But much to your displeasure, you hear his footsteps quickly closing on you. You speed just a tiny bit, but he's really not giving up, so in a few seconds you see a shadow looming you, following that, a presence of another person.

"I go the same way." He replies. Gods, that sounded like a blatant lie due to his bland tone, but you are not sure if he really lied or not.

"What do you mean by forced?" He pries further in much to your displeasure.

"Parents made you join here?" Rasbit suddenly asks. Well, if you were going to lie, he just gave you a solid ammunition, but if you have to be honest, you'd prefer to avoid talking about this further.

>"Yeah, parents. You know how they always want a smart, popular kid. The usual, really." Use what you're given.
>"Well, you know how it is... It's just suddenly something like this, then that." Keep blubbering, but never actually answer the question.
>"I'd rather not talk about it, you know?" Don't actually answer it.
>"Well... I have a natural talent, really." Buckle in and tell the truth.

"Well, the school choose me, and no one asked if I had any objections towards it." You reply, trying to keep as little eye contact as possible, just in case to not bust your lie.

"I suppose the school lacks students. There is not a lot of us." he continues, looking up and at the hallway. God it's really long, but it's about to end so you can part your ways with him. You just have to keep going. But that sentence is interesting, not many?

"..What do you mean?" You have to ask, because that's something you actually want to know. " Not many students, how many is there?"

"Twenty two with us."

Gods. That IS little, especially for this kind of building. Just what were they thinking designing this? Actually, why there is so LITTLE of people, you would guess that more folks would be interested in doing something with sigils.

"Oh! Brin! There you are!" You suddenly hear the metallic voice of Diego due to his helmet, now you notice that it looks.. Weird. He's quickly walking towards you from the end of the hallway, grabbing your shoulder.

"I see you've made a friend in Rosbit! He's a good student, can read sigils no biggie! But butbut! I have something I need you for! Science waits for no one so let us go!" He says, tugging you.

>You love science starting from now on, go with him.

You don't plan on resisting Diego, whatever it is, it's not going to be worse than having to talk with Rosbit and potentially risk something.

You wave to him however, and he does the same. You're dragged through the Castle is rather huge hurry, as if Diego's actually running away from something or someone. This thought makes you think about this even further, especially because the first place you'd think to be forced to go into, the staff room, is avoided. Soon after, the underground basement is also avoided, and you notice that you're taken somewhere you haven't been to yet. Which raises your suspicion by just tiny bit.

>Say nothing, risk nothing.
>"Uhh... Where are we headed?"

Okay, that's enough of having things hidden from you. This is getting a little bit too dark for you in a way, so you are forced to rest your case with a wriggle, trying to end the grab on your shoulder.

You slip out without too much trouble, Diego didn't seem to hold you all that strongly you must guess. Hell, he doesn't even seem to notice that he's no longer holding you for a little bit too long to consider it as normal, perhaps it's the gauntlet? Nevertheless, he comes to a stop, looks at his hand and then turns around, facing you, tilting his head in confusion.

"I'd like to be told where I am going and WHY, for once. If that's.. Not too much to ask." You muster out, standing your ground but leaning back, you grab the attention of the soldiers on post, but you're used to it at this point.

Diego grabs his hand into a clench, forming one huge fist before taking a deep breath and exhaling. Now ready to talk.

"You have a talent Brin! That one test before was just a try to see what exactly your talent IS. And now! I need you for one more test. And hey! I was actually going to teach you HOW to read a powerword! It's not just blubbering out words like writing on a paper! It's.. Important for my studies! Did you know that there are actually DIFFERENT WORLDS!?" He yells out, clearing his throat.

"Well, you don't, most likely, butbutbut! With your skill, I can PROVE IT! It's just a theory, but you will help me make ground breaking discovery, I just need you! ... R help, your help. I believe your gift goes further than just reading!"

Well, he likes to talk, you know this much. And whole different worlds? You fail to comprehend that, you can't imagine a different world than this one.

You sigh. This is your first day at school, technically speaking, and already you're being used to fuel some sort of theory of what you can only guess to be a crazy scientist. You like to help, but this is going a bit too far.

You shake your head and quickly turn around, walking away. You are not going to deal with this. You hear a clang of gauntlets, but nothing happens afterward, so you return to your room in relative peace. Hey, at least you get to see how it looks like.

It's cozy, the walls are blue. There's not a lot of space, but you can get some privacy, and the bed is right next to the window as well. At some point, your things were brought too, so you see familiar things, making you less home-sick. Such as your pillows, items and other, various things.

Speaking of pillows, you lay down on the bed and sigh, rubbing your eyes. Gods, this will be a hard school if things will keep going like this. Maybe if you could escape somehow..

Your rest is interrupted twice. Once, because you feel someone staring at you through the window, poking your head out, you only spot a cat further away, near the defensive walls. It meows, calming you down before it runs away. And second time was when Judwig with Helia and Diego burst in.

"Young man, I believe it is time to introduce you to your classmates!" The old man says, Diego seems to be calm, or at least no one is aware that he tried to make his theory into truth with you.

>"Do I have to? I really would like to not do anything."

"Alright. Fine." You say, standing up from the bed and getting yourself ready.

"But, there's something I have to tell you. Mister Diego tried to, uh.." Well, that's hard to explain now that you think about it. But thankfully, you're quickly unneeded to continue your sentence. Helia bursts out of the room, dragging the armored man with him while Judwig just sighs. Waving over to you to follow him.

He doesn't say anything as you're walking to the class. Which is probably for the best, there's no reason to drag this further than it's necessary. However, you spot eyes yet again on you yet again whenever you walk past a window. And sometimes you just spot the cat, which is now starting to spook you.

Nevertheless, you soon reach the class. The single class, and everyone is in it. After a quick count, you realize that Rosbit didn't lie to you. 22 people total. That's.. Kind of saddening.

"Class, it's a bit late, but you have a new acquaintance. Brin Wabien! Say hello!"

God, it's so cringy, everyone does as the Director said. So you reply with a Hello of your own before you're sent to sit down next to Rosbit and someone else. Before you can even start handshaking with people around you, Judwig continues.

"Now. I officially welcome all of you to the Sigil School and Research Castle in Broting! All of you either shown great dedication to exploring and research of the technology, now long lost. Or skill in reading the Sigils. Perhaps the most important discovery of our time! However, before you get onto your high horses. I must warn you, like I do with every fresh batch of students. That Sigils are NOT! A toy! They're something of immense power and risk, you must take great, great, GREAT care in using them!"
(cont.)
>>
>>46544955

And just as he finished his sentence, Helia walks in.

"Now. I know, I may have not stressed this enough. But rest assured that what you're about to see, is probably the best thing that can happen to you if you dare to play with powers beyond your control... Miss Helia, if you could." He says, stepping back away from his place and mentioning over.

She steps in and takes off her glasses. Now you remember, she has an eye-patch.
You grab the desk in anticipation, the pressure is starting to pile on with immense speed and mass. The air went suddenly dry and you can hear the breathing everyone.

Helia reaches out to it and quickly raises it. And you stomach in and swallow your vomit. Her eye.

It's empty. It glows small tint of blue, but it's empty. Where the iris should be, all you see is just a blue glow that ends behind the eye. It's a glowing blue hole in her eye.

This is going to be a ride and a half.
