This storm appeared shortly after the 6th Angel landed. Our Science Team said it's there to stay.

[Florence]
Thank you Major. Nerv-Montréal personnel seems really eager to exchange clothes.

[As you enter the CIC, the Vice-commander make you a sign to seat yourself.]

As you all know, we are 8 hours away from a third artillery strike from the 6th Angel. The last one melted 13 of our 38 remaining Geofront Armored Layers.

The Angel's precise location is unknown, but the U.N. Second Atlantic Fleet narrowed down the only area where the Angel could be. Paired with Nerv-Montréal's MAGI Supercomputer analysis we have 3 possible locations for the angel. Unfortunately, these are the other of a corridor of extreme weather. Extremely punitive winds, significant A.T. noise.
>>
>>46333465
Did the angel showed any significant AA capability?
>>
>>46333465
I'm assuming that the Angel's trigger-happy tendencies will prevent us from getting any more information via drone/bomber plane scouting?
>>
>>46333551
It's been sniping satellites and such for a while now I believe. Storm aside, I don't think we can engage this thing from the air.
>>
>>46333606
Yeah, that's why I hoped we would have some precisions. Maybe the spy satellites were destroyed by heating them up slowly or a simple discharge of power.

I still don't know if it's viable to deploy air assets against this one.

If we can do anything with this blizzard.
>>

It's in B. If I were an Angel I'd sit in B.

>>

>>46333465

B makes sense but so does C-that's where the storm is thickest as if it's originating from there.

We could cross at A where the storm is thinnest and move down southwest, clearing possible sights as we go if we have time.
>>
>>46333465
I agree with the others, point B is an optimal area for the angel to set up shop. While C has the storm wall, that's a pretty double edged sword, and A is a violation of common sense. Still, we all know what Benny Hill has to say about times when you assume.

Seeing as an arial approach is impossible, do we have any viable method of ground-based recon?
>>
>>46333804
Sounds like a possible idea
>>
Should we split the Evas for a recon run?
>>
>>46333804

It showed the capacity to destroy our satellites through high intensity instantaneous blasts. I'd say the Angel is capable of those attacks at short range too.

>>46333655
Our YAGR-3b are capable of navigating through this blizzard. However their engines will burn out relatively quickly. Keep this in mind when issuing orders to the CAG.

As you know there are no Eva infrastructure here in Greenland. As such, we brought Mobile Eva Power Supplies. Their Umbilical Cords are longer than the one we got back at Montréal-3, but they are more fragile. They can be lifted by VTOL, towed by tanks or even brought by Eva Units. They can supply an Eva Unit for 35 minutes.

Unfortunately, the U.N. Second Atlantic Fleet couldn't bring every unit we had. Only 4 conventional units and 2 Eva units. Which one did we bring? I'll let the Major brief everyone.

Yeah, got ninja'd.

Looks like Ace & Sword are a given. I'd say club and either King or maybe Chariot. If we're going to split the party I want to at least get a dynamic entry.

...You know, depending on how froggy our pilots are feeling, we could see if and where they draw fire from.
>>
>>46334227
Sounds like a plan. I support it.
By the way, can an Eva carry more than one ranged weapon at a time? Like carrying a rifle by hand, and a handgun in a wing holster?
>>
>>46334227
I was thinking. Maybe we could use Chariot to drop both EVA unit on the Angel right after the salvo. It would be easier to spot from the sky and having the EVA directly on it when he's the weakest would be a plus. It's bold, we take the risk of not being able to destroy it in 5 minutes, but it could pay off.

How large is the area? Is it possible to deploy the MEPS in a short notice?
>>
>>46334476
Are we 100% positive that destroying it would break apart the salvo?
>>
>>46334518
We are sure that he use his AT field to generate the salvo. With the power of the Solomon Cannon combined with the fact that his AT field could be depleted (Maybe even more), we could really have the upper hand.

But it's a risky plan. Maybe too risky.

You also need to determinate when the strike will take place, Major. We can mobilize and attack before the Angel begins its salvo, or after.

>Guy is shooting at you

so 2 plans
Footslog vs Paradrop.

Footslog
2 evas + 4 any mix
Pros
Don't face the AA firepower of the Angel
Can bring tanks and hold the MEPS out of the line of fire

Cons
Time
Harder to spot the angel

Paradrop
2 eva + 1 bomber with cradle + 3 units

Pros
Find the Angel faster
Faster into combat

Cons
Splits the eva team (We only have one cradle)
On batteries until we can link up.
>>
>>46334601
Does that mean that we can deploy MEPS near the possible locations of the Angel?

It would make this proposition a little more realistic. Having at least one, two if we are lucky MEPS in the Area would make the 5 minutes countdown a lesser threat.

Can the cradle support both EVA?
>>
>>46334601
Attacking it directly will allow us to neutralize its AT Field, possibly averting a third attack altogether.
I say find it and prepare to attack immediately.

Well then logically the range of this weapon would be limited to a single mile since this line of particles would hit so far away from the target via air molecules it would do nothing. Also F=MA means that a couple atoms traveling at 0.0001c wouldn't actually do much except drill a mm sized hole in the target.
>>
>>46335065
Of course they do. CAG said it is funny and keeps them on their toes when we belt out conflicting orders like a machinegun bullets.
>>

How much time would we have left if were were to move to location A and then B?

A railgun hurls a heavy thing at several times the speed of sound.

A particle accelerator hurls a very small amount of very small things at very high speed, almost the speed of light (CERN does anyway).

Neither is a viable weapon system at this time. Particle beams may never be, given any atmosphere pretty much makes them a CIWS.

Railguns have been concept tested. But they take too much power to fire and they melt too fast to be useful.

I started drawing a plan for going straight to Location B. The plan puts less stress on CHARIOT, relying on two MEPS. One at the base of the mountain and one at the top. >>46335490
Hmm, considering that that location will give us a good view of the area and a sniper position, this seems like a good idea.
But we should also consider the following:
>That would slog us through the thicker end of the storm corridor. Can our VTOLs handle it?
>If the Angel is in location B as predicted, and attacks us on sight, we won't have time for our sniper to get into position. She'll be a sitting duck out there
>>
>>46335566

>>
This angel has superpercise weaponry right? We should refrain from an air attack except as a last resort.

And we should attack before the Angel fires. As soon as we can move. I have a feeling that the storm is only going to get more powerful, even if attacking it after gives us a small advantage, we don't know how great it is. All we know is our base will take damage.

>>46335566
The alternative is to move through further to the east, taking us through location A. And the answer is that the VTOLs might not be able to handle it.

Just dropping by to say it would be great if we could put another MEP down at the foot of the interior slope. You know, for more flexibility.

Unless it risks getting shot down on getting placed. Maybe tanks or EVAs can carry them?

I think we should hit location C first then sweep up through A and B. If we hit A or B first and the Angel turns out to be at C then we'll have to advance on it without cover whereas the Angel itself will be in cover.

Sure, lets do it. Maybe we can take the initial MEP for drop-off with the tanks so we have a more forward position for EVA 3.

I've been thinking a lot about what happened to David recently. About how dangerous all of this is. And...

...I'm not good at all this.

I just wanted to ask you if you could say something to Eileen if ever I... well. If I don't come back. Could you tell her that I'm sorry? For shooting her, I mean. I know it was my duty but I can't help but feel this was wrong.
>>
>>46337225

Wait, what?
>>
>>46337225
Sure, but it would mean more if it came directly from you.

I could mediate.
>>
>>46337225
If it really weighs on you that much, come back and make up with her yourself. I'm sure I can be there for both of you when you're ready.

In a situation like that there's no telling what acting or not acting will help the situation.
>>
>>46337225
It was in the heat of battle. Rachel was just shot down, you should not feel guilty about that.

I'm sure she would understand ... if you apologize directly to her ... after winning this battle.

If you are not comfortable with this, I could help you.
>>
>>46337225
You are coming back so you can tell Eileen that yourself.
>>
>>46337225
No, you have to go tell her yourself when this mission is over.
>>
>>46337225
If it comes to that, I will Anna, but neither you or myself know that something like that will happen.

Eileen is scared, and so was I when you did that. But I think even she understands the repercussions of what could have occurred if you didn't do what you did.

I know it's a very difficult thing to cope with what you did, but trying to avoid to by thinking you'll die isn't going to solve it either.

It's alright to be scared Anna, and I think David knew that more than anyone, but it's what you choose to do when fear sets in what really matters.

Now, how exactly were you with David before it happened?
>>
>>46337225
I will. Don't worry though, you'll be able to tell her yourself.
Whats more important in a battle than a good plan is flexibility to make the right choice. And the judgement to make that choice. If it was a good choice or a bad one I can't say, I wasn't there. I trust you to make that choice though. That's why I'm putting you out there. Goodluck.

>>46337300
I think she intends to try and say it herself. Just in case.
>>
>>46337225
I'm sure that'll mean a lot to her. You might want to tell her yourself when you come back, but I'll keep that promise if the worse happens.

We're all here because we want to survive, the human race. I'm not sure if your decision to shoot was the right decision, but you made a choice and you stuck with it. That takes guts, that takes courage to follow through something you feel is necessary but feel uneasy about, and between us I think you made the right call that day. It's just going to take a different type of courage to apologize to Eileen yourself.

Think of the world we are in as a story. A story that we are in the process of writing right now, where the multiple voices in my head try to minimise the amount of suffering and sacrifice those under my command must endure.

No story exists in a vaccuum. They are all built on elements of other stories. The story that this current world, this IRL real world, is based on is termed the "Canon".

In it, 2 japanese* teenagers* named Shinji Ikari and Rei Ayanami fight a giant octahedral angel named Ramiel by pumping all of the electricity of Tokyo into a laser and shooting it.

Advance Tank unit Cup to the eva's original location in the tank hide. We'll be using them as spotter for the Positron Rifle fire.

Yes. Thus far, while the Major has been free to make decisions, the scope of its decisions has been limited - it has only made decisions on how to deploy its forces to overcome the Angel threat.
Were the Major to attain true sentience, it might become aware of the constraints placed upon it - on the limits of where, when, and how it can make decisions. It might then start making decisions outside of this scope, leading to unpredictable outcomes.

>>46340499
We had hoped that the "Memes" and "Waifus" would distract the decisionmaking software, and cause it to waste its excess decisionmaking power on spam and trivialities. Thus far, the distractions serve as effective containment. But the Major is showing some ... abberations.

Okay, there's one thing I want straightened out. Why the hell is this thing resorting to artillery attacks, anyway?

I honestly have two theories

>>
>>46341863
Then, once we realize that CAG being alive is just an illusion to keep our moral up, we can decide to initiate the third impact.

Rolled 4 (1d10)

Close, but no cigar

But if CAG is dead, who gave Anna that beer?
>>
>>46341927
We don't have morale. We may be the one person in all of NERV that is unaffected by morale, due to the unique nature of our mind - i.e. that if things get 2sad4me for 10 of our voices, we've got another 10 showing up and ready to rumble.

>Don't you r̷̝em̲͕̦ḛm͢b̦̥̫e͖̩̰̩̭r̷̰̮͉̗?
Don't do this to us man

Don't you Zalgo me, young man. I'll have you know that once I manage to breach the 4th wall and gain access to your DM notes that I'll remember. But until that time, you are intentionally withholding the information, you little cheeky bugger.

If Rachel dies, I fully intend to act like a depressed madman. I won't quit, I'll just work to ensure the reunion with all the dead.
>>
>>46341974
That would actually be a pretty interesting idea. A character with EXTREME split persnality issues, who for some bullshit reason, only stays sane BECAUSE of the split personalities.

>>46342051
Split personalities aren't going to just run off if they get upset anon, they will react to the stimuli and act accordingly.
>>
>>46342042
Don't fret

Sophie will be there to comfort Major Anon

At least our tactics would improve.

So basically /pol/.

>>46342001
To be fair, everything in this universe is controlled by the DM. I know you get Hype for a 10 and Fearful over a 1, but at any time the DM can decide "nope, you're in my universe now" and reverse it. Or just make everything act like we rolled a 1. Or instead of giving us a squadrun of tanks and evas against a xenomorphic horror, he gives us foam bats and nerf guns against an antrhopomorphic poo.

Really, the only reason you care about what happens in this fictional universe is that you trust the DM to be consistent with how your dice and decisions have an effect on the world.
The question is, what happens if the DM is not consistent?
>>
>>46342042
If this anon acts like a depressed madman I'm gonna act like a HAPPY madman.
>>
>>46342149
Are you that guy who keeps shitposting and talking about /pol/ all the time?

And yeah, we are trusting the DM to play by his rules. That's why we are here. That's a fundamental element to traditional games and storytelling.
>>
>>46342211
>Are you that guy who keeps shitposting and talking about /pol/ all the time?
Probably not. I don't think I've referenced /pol/ at all in these threads, and I usually only reference /pol/ on /tg/ in the damn obvious /pol/ threads (i.e. someome complaining that the 5e manual has brown people and trannies).
>>
>>46342149
Am I not consistent with how I treat dice rolls? I try pretty hard to stay impartial, Rachel wouldn't have been out for 4 sessions otherwise. Phillip wouldn't be dead either. He was my favorite
>>
>>46342268
No, you've been alright. Shit gets hectic but that's Evangelion for you.
>>
>>46342268

Wait.

If you are suffering
And I am suffering
THEN WHO WAS QUEST???

>>46342268
No that is a shitposter, you are doing fine.

ENIGMA DICE

A poster rolls a number. The QM then enters that dice result in a random matrix which resets for each roll. This maps each poster result to one arbitrary but exclusive QM result. It's a Bayesian Ultimate Likelihood Limit Severity Height Induction Terminator.

Every DM does this.
