The good news: Wren's awake

The bad news: She sort of maybe just a little bit wants to kill you.

So it's a reasonable thought. After all, you came rushing into the room to find her in the middle of raiding your wardrobe that wasn't pink, covered in blood, with a dinner knife and wend to hug her.

Which is why she (somehow) tossed you through your open window. And why right now, you are considering your life decisions and you can hear your sister guffawing from the Kitchen

You get up and dust yourself off just as you hear your window slam shut, and our of the corner of your eye, catch the blinds pulled taut. So yeah. Wren might be in panic mode, your sister spotted you get thrown by someone with the total muscle mass of a trout, and your

dinner knife needs replacing.

Fortunately, no one else was around to see you. You get up and dust off...

I'm tired, mostly because I just woke up half an hour ago, and started writing immediately. Lemme get coffee, breakfast, a few guardsmen for snac-I mean pistachios for snacks and then get back to you. 30 mins to vote call for that reason.

You know, It's wonderfully warm, and the ground's pretty soft. And you really havn't had much of an appetite since you died, not that food tastes that great anyway. Booze still helps but to be honest not even that is too tempting. You flop back down and sigh.

"You got thrown by a girl, you weakling" is called from the front door. "What did you do? attack her?"

"Shut up Halia" Your sister's mockery doesn't even cut through your rest. And Wren could probably do with some alone time. Really you're just looking for excuses to not get up. Being perfectly honest the day's been pretty miserable. Exercise, exercise, practice, mock sister for attention, cook dinner (the only thing you're good for) get attacked by best freind. Getting up would just give the world more shit to throw in your face.

"Hey... Are you ok?"

Or not. Someone's standing in your sun.

"Just leave me alone Halie. I'm in a shit mood as it is. I'm probably cursed by Celian, or Aughantaur, or someone, and that's why I'm only half dead."

"James?"

Nope. Not talking. Talking means people talk to you which means that they'll waste more time interacting with you. And you know that they don't want to do that. After all, you damn well saved them from fucking bandit's, and they treat you like a leper. So what if you disappeared, and then showed up from the blue, so what if you cheated, or used a curse, or didn't die. You saved them damnit. Why the fuck can't you just die, at least that wa-

"James, is that you?" Ok, so that's not your sister. It sounds like Wren, except Wren doesn't get hoarse, and half whisper her words.

You feel a pair of hands slide under your fringe, and pull it back. You forgot to re-tie your hair after hauling the carcass.

"It's him alright. The lazy bastard." You know your sister's standing in the door. Grinning that stupid grin, she's a better part of your family than you ever were, she didn't run away. She was here when dad needed her. And she would have told people where she was going if she did, and people would have organised a going away party, and you just decided to sneak out, like some dirty thief, and become a pirate, and not even a go-

"Why's he crying? I mean, I know I threw him, but he's a tough guy... He's not even responding."
>>
"Get off it. James doesn't cry, he just channels it into getting on with life"

"Hey, James? James? Come on man, what's wrong?" Damnit... why does she have to care, why, after all of what she's been through does she have to pity you? She's been beaten, drained by magic, and for fuck sake, she was raped! You saw the records in Dr.Marches office, you fucking snuck in just to find out. She's been through so much, and she just... passes it off like it was nothing.

"Halia, what happened? Last thing I remember I nearly blew myself up again making sure my lab was safe. Now I wake up in James' room, wearing... pink, and he's back? Did I dream the last 2 years?"

"He's actually crying? Holy shit. Come on in, it's been a rough few days, and this is probably his way of dealing with it."

No. Fuck that. You survived death on your own. You killed and maneuvered your way up the entire crew of a pirate ship. You completely freed your hometown from the clutches of a bunch of limp dick bandits, by tricking their stupid leader, using bullshit rules around captaincy. You moved faster than the speed of death to protect your family, and you're making your way back to life by turning your un-life around

When you speak, your voice is deathly quiet. "Gods damnit Wren, I missed you." Suddenly, you have your arms wrapped around her, and you won't let go it the whole world tried to pry you apart. You might be fixing your life, but right now you need hugs. You weren't lying. Wren was a constant in your life, allways there to muck about with, either clambering across the rooftops, or pulling off some bullshit scheme, or just spending a few hours resting, and chatting.
>>
"Hey Captain. Welcome back to the land of the living. You Ok?"

" 'M sorry Wren. It's been tough. Sis can fill you in, but right now, I need this. Between fucking up as a Captain, and the stress of the past few days, I'm not doing so hot."

"It's ok. I'm not feeling great to be honest, a few bruises I don't remember getting, a few scrapes and scratches in places best not talked about in public. What happened? Did the guard come back?"

"Long story, you should probably head to Doc Marches if you can't remember the past few days. He thought you would."

"Nope. Not when you're like this. Besides, there's no way I'm leaving just as you get back. You need to tell me what you were up to. "

She's warm, and soft, and Getting tired of being in a lean-down hug has gotten on her side, dirtying one of your better shirts, not that you care.

"James I'll bring your plate out. Wren? Wanna Dire Elk steak? The Doctor said that when you got to the clinic, you were half starved."

"Dire Elk? You kidding me? Who cooked it?"

"Only person who could ever really cook in this town"

"Glad he's back... his cooking"

You're blacking out again

Will be continued after dinner, see you in an hour or so.

"You don't need to do this you know" Wren is at your side, her brown tunic tied at the waist with a purple sash, a black leather hood over her head

"I know, but Sis's been providing for a week and a half now, and we're just running out of elk. Besides, there's berries here, and I'm sure you can get something for your brews." You've changed your clothes too, a long sleeved white shirt, brown leather leggings, and a slighly small tri-corn from your childhood. You have your sword, and a few of Halie's knives as a backup, and Wren has a small handaxe you gave her for her 15th birthday.

"Fine..." She pauses "James?"

"Hmm?" You're surprised as she grabs your head, and pulls you in for a kiss, her eyes closed

"Your not alone. And if you ever leave us behind again, I will track you down and murder you in your sleep." She drops out of the tree and wanders off towards the stream.

Maybe a little foraging while waiting. White mustard and wild asparagus, chanterelles and ox tongue mushrooms.

If James catches some rabbits or snakes we can make a stew with it all.

>>
Very well. Trapping with a side of foraging it is.
>>
>Go trapping
>Go Foraging

Really, you didn't come too prepared for this, but you'd never be able to hunt like Halia does. On the other hand, you did learn your way around ropes on a ship. and certain snares work just as well for catching prey as it does hurling crew members into the raging sea.
You quickly find a few light vines hanging off of an old willow, not far from the stream. Wren is hanging around somewhere near by, plucking the red cranberry and myrtle of their goods.
Not wasting time, you pick out a few prime branches, and strip them of their greenery to hide your labours, then take your knife to one of the lighter logs. Spliting it down the middle, you thread a vine through it, and bind your pin with more lashings. The earth will keep it together when you plant it. Seeking out a game trail, there's a few things you can use to your advantage. Rabbits are ever common in the woods, as are some of the less venomous snakes, but you could always hunt something bigger. So, you set out a variety of traps. Along the main game trail, you strategic put a steak through a long slit log, and weigh it down with a rock, before binding it to a pin. The dead-fall trap would kill a man just as it would a deer, so you lay out one of two of the common hunter's signs nearby, and cover your scent by rubbing pine sap from nearby over everything.
>>
For rabbits, you set a few snares made of lashings, and tie them to a nearby root, projecting out over the root. Snakes, while not as tasty, are much easier to catch. Gathering a few reeds from the river, you strip off their outer leaves, and bend and wrap them to form a tube. Taking a few portions of the jerky you brought with you to snack on, you bend the rush-leaves to form an entrance that can not be exited from.

After a few hours, wren calls over...

"You done yet?"

"Just getting the last of these traps down."

"Well I'm going to head back. Try to be home before sundown." She has a bulging pack with leaves and berries strapped to her.

"Home?"

"I'm staying with you until my wards wear off."

"Alright then"

She leaves, wandering slowly south to the wall surrounding Harrfell.

You decide to go checking back on your traps, just in case you somehow caught something. Nothing in the dead fall, but no harm in leaving it there really. The rabbit traps however paid out quickly. 3 furry bastards, caught on various snares, struggling to get out. You close off the snare and strangle them quickly, before tying them off at the belt. And 2 of the snake traps are wriggling about every so often, fortune smiles upon you for once, as you find a patch of pepper mint you hadn't expected, and some tubers that were exposed by the river. Probably poisonous, but they *do* look like wild carrot.

> 15

There's a click from behind you, and you can *sense* something big just waiting to gut you. Turning slowly around, you come face to face with a bear. Bears aren't usually found around Harrfell, and this isn't a regular bear. It has horns. Elk horns.

"Fuck"

And that's a wrap. I'm sorry about the timing today, but what with nearly killing myself, and just how tired I've been recently, there's not much I can do about it I'm afraid. Tomorrow's thread at 4, hopefully. Keep an eye on the twitter for changes.
