>>Spetnaz Style (small teams, stealth strike bonuses)

Working in relative stealth, you divided your warriors up. It was a tricky thing, keeping them all quiet, but you managed to accomplish it. There were two groups of three, and one person in each group had some kind of improvised polearm. You had been sure to instruct them to keep to small groups of zombies, and to stick close enough together to help each other if you got in a jam. You personally would be going Joan and an Engineer to survey the bridge, and make sure it wasn’t trashed.

>Group 1: 30+5
>Zombies 1: 26
>Group 2: 28+5
>Zombies 2: 30
>Party: 34
>Bridge Zombies: 13
>Results: 2 Warrior light casualty, Zombie groups 1, 2, and Bridge annihilated. 4XP full crew, +15 Warrior ratings.

While you managed to blaze your way to the bridge, the stealth teams got to work. Not all the zombies were in the horde by the starboard bow rail, and by dividing and conquering you had managed to get most of the zombies on deck. The surveying of the bridge went fairly well, although the Engineer was not doing so well from being around zombies. Joan was different- she didn’t seem to fight the zombies so much as bend them to her will. Killing a zombie by snapping its neck was one thing. Killing a zombie by locking eyes with it until it keeled over from a heart attack was something else. For the first time, you started to wonder what, exactly, you had rescued.

Gathering the warriors back together, you got ready to face the horde. One last chance to rally the men, one last obstacle to overcome. Time to be inspirational again. Oh
dear.

>Roll 2d2o for Command check, bonus for adding a Rousing Speech.

(Spetsnaz Stealth Bonus will be in effect for the coming melee, however Spetsnaz casualty rules will also apply. If you picked IG earlier with the dice rolls, there would be no casualties in the last combat, so I hope you have a feel for how the Stealth/Small Group options affect casualty rates.)

But if we can do this, then we'll be set, and after working some of the shit that's on here, we're gonna be living a life of luxury. Right from the get-go, things went bad. You weren’t sure what made it happen. Maybe it was the armor. Maybe it was the polearms. Maybe it was the armor. Maybe it was the sight of Joan in the back, looking slightly sad and very annoyed. Maybe it was the inspirational speech which explicitly stated the possibility of booze. Whatever it was, things went to hell all too fast.

You hit their flank like a steam train. There was no fear, no shock in your ranks. It was glorious, as if the might of angels was with you. You could feel the horde give way, pushed against the safety railing.

And then it happened. They stopped feuding. They stopped quarrelling. The live prey became more interesting than the scavenged remains, and they charged en masse. Your warriors formed into their groups, and held them off you as hard they could, but the heavenly light had deserted you. Joan’s eyes spat their death and fury, but it mattered not as you franticly shot one that was looming over her shoulder. There were too many. There were many too many. The engineer behind you fell, his knife broken off in the neck of a zombie. The first group cried out in pain, and you laid about like a vengeful god. "Don't let this be in vain! The friends we sent off died so that we could get this far, and I'll be dammed before I let that sacrifice end up worthless! I know we can do this, they knew we could do this! Do this for us! For their memory! Adversor et admorsus!” you yelled, the Latin bringing comfort to you in the dark hour. And as you yelled, the two groups franticly bound together, fighting over the bodies of those too wounded to move. The horde was thinning, you noticed, and you grinned quietly at the roar of battle. “For the fallen, Resist and Bite.” indeed.

When the battle ended, you stood amongst the carnage, panting. Nobody had exited that fray unscathed. Returning to your boat, you looked at the mate who was on watch.

Yeah, shit went down. I recommend you all take careful notes in terminology: a Horde is any group of zombies who have a significant numerical advantage. Said numerical advantage is what gave them the +3 which wiped their -3 from being in a feed. A few dead zombies a feeding orgy does not make.

Let's focus on medical recovery for our warriors. They fought bravely, so we owe it to them.

Remember: salt packed against a wound, while painful, can help prevent infection.
>>
>>46273574

Smart. The only problem is that anything medical requires a knowledge check, and seeing as your engineers are still all level 1 and your own knowledge is 1...

I'm not going to say you're not smart enough, but you're fighting the dice on this one.

Loot the zombie bodies for anything useful. Even their clothes are useful, we can wash them in the seawater.
Here's what we do next:
Lash and doors with SEVERAL layers of wet clothes and rope, but not completely flush. Make it loose enough so that a head can just barely be shoved through the hole.
Then we make a shitload of noise outside the door, wait for a zed to pop their head in, pike them, shove the corpse out of the way with something long, rinse and repeat.
It's a good low-risk strategy.

Have someone on watch for smaller zombies that might crawl through the hole, though. No surprises, no fuck ups.
>>
>>46273881
It's a lovely thought, as long as we don't get exhausted and they don't break the door down. Do we know how many zed we're up against?
>>
>>46273881
Can we pull this off? This sounds like it could work
>>
>>46273920
Hmm...
We do have a small amount of raw materials from the scuttled ship,
Maybe we can reinforce the doors while we do them. Or have a makeshift barricade to aid a retreat.
>>
>>46273947
I think I'd rather just sneak around and find out how many of them are there. If the Spetznaz combat roll was any indication, they didn't seem to alert until we started the clash. We may be able to get a headcount without risking anybody's lives.
>>
>>46273783

You did a fairly good job of instilling in them a respect for the afterlife, Anon.

>>46273881

Decent plan. Mind, nobody is actually going to want to wear those clothes, but then again the current attitude doesn't see the plebs as people.

>>46273995

They have slightly less than human senses, but are very perceptive of what they find. Right now the fight will have any in the bowels of the ship riled up. Thankfully, sealing all the below-deck hatches is an option to create a zombie-free upper deck.
>>
>>46274298
Cloth is good for more than wearing, it's a decent filter, can make netting or makeshift rope, bandaging, can be used as a fuel for a fire, can be used to store shit in if you tie up the open bits (salt sacks? Sure), and you can make SAILS with it in an emergency where we run out of fuel.
>>
>>46274298
In the case of zombie senses not being bad, I'll vote for clearing the top deck, barricading the hatches and taking care of the wounded.
>>

As far as things going well, they weren’t. You needed both ships manned, and that meant division of labor. Normally, you’d use the Warriors here, but most of them were laying on the deck moaning, while the bitten one just looked dead to the world, a knife between her splayed fingers. It was bad. Real bad. So you looked in on your soul, and sighed. Time to chip a piece off and put it in the bank for later, so you could remember what you used to be before this mess.

“I’m crossing ships.” You said, flat. The sailor just saluted and started signaling with the mirror. As the yacht came in closer, you ran off an extended gangplank onto your yacht, and landed gracefully.

“Dock the ships together. We’re transferring the lame and lazy- they can damn well work for once.”

The sailor on the helm just smiled the fell smile that was becoming all too common. “Aye sir. I’ll tell the boys to drag them up.”

It was a motley procession up the climbing nets, but you were too apathetic to care. They might have thought they were in trouble before, but that had nothing on you right now. Climbing aboard yourself, you watched the prize crew smile at the group in the middle. There was nothing civil about it, and your soul rejoiced.
“Plebeians, rejoice!” you shouted, the irony writ large on your smile. “Today, you have an opportunity to improve yourselves! This ship, unfortunately, is not fully cleared! We suspect at least six zombies are left in the vitals, so you get the honor of maintaining the ship until our brave warriors are recovered to root them from the guts of this fine vessel! Our warriors, blessed are they despite their wounds, will be recovered in a few weeks.”

“I can help!” one of the plebeians called, caked in filth and sweat. “I was a doctor!”

“Then, dear apothecary, why did you not mention your experiences earlier?” you taunt wildly.

“There was no need-“

The boos and shrieks of the crew drown him.

“Tell me, doctor,” you strain, “then how many grains are in a drachm?”

“One hundred?” he guessed, wrongly.

“FALSE!” you roared. The crew jeered.

“Prize crew, you will have your rations in the comm tower. The plebeians will salvage and inventory the cargo. If they do not, then they will be given to the warriors as body servants. There is a radio on the bridge. Stay in touch.”

Leaving the ship, you watched the warriors get sent down gently. At the end, one of the plebs jumped after, sprawling on the deck and scrambling over to a bedridden warrior.

“She is mine, of her own will!” he yelled, joyus. “Let none dispute!”

You smiled. A little good news wouldn’t hurt, now.

>Stay close to the ship while the plebs find out what responsibility is.

>Stay close to the ship while the plebs find out what responsibility is.

It was a long two weeks while the warriors recovered while the Engineers did their shit. You stayed fairly close to the cargo ship, trying very hard to always stay in sight. Of course, when the Signal Wizard said you had a lifeboat in the water, you went and chased it. Which meant leaving the Carolina alone. Which rankled, but oh well. At least Joan still played chess, and started to open up a little.

>Pop +12

When your warriors finally got healed back up, the Engineers were ready. They had been hard at work pouring over the scraps of the ShitBote, and had been devising armor. Cloth scraps made an effective backing under wood, and crude rope secured each piece to its brethren. The suits had been custom-fitted to each warrior, and all of them had been given half-spears as better weapons to supplement their knives. Each one now carried a shield, and each one was marked with their name and eldritch runes, assuring protection and death to those who opposed.

Returning to the Carolina, you smiled as the warriors approached triumphant. The plebeians were ragged, gasping, and salt-stained, trailing after the warriors like the lesser they were. As the warriors went into the holds, the plebeians cheered. You just smiled.

“Would the Commodore come to the bridge? Repeat, would the Commodore come to the bridge?”

Huh. Looks like they got the intercom working. Heading into the stack, you went to the bridge, where one of the Sailors sat in the captain’s chair.

“Commodore.” He said, calmly. “I would be Skipper Penar.”

You smiled. He had initiative, and he was using it well. “Well then, Penar, what would you like to talk to me about?”

“Power. I want this ship, as an independent command.”

You start thinking. On one hand, he hasn’t fucked up with it. On the other, an independent command meant he could steal the ship and leave you without anything left.

“No. Not this ship. But, I believe we can make an arrangement.”

”The Carolina, as my depot ship. You’d stay in squadron with me, and would handle the logistics in exchange for a command.” You say with confidence, looking at him flat in the eye.

“Which means fucking, what again?” he said, a glint in his eye.

“Which means you stay near the Arreschere, so that we can use you as a base. We need the logistics this place represents on tap. It’s a gold mine- about the only thing more valuable than this ship is a fuel tanker right now. Add in the fact that we can use it as a training ground, and-“

“You, you rat of a commodore want to turn MY ship into a goddamn DUMPING GROUND?!”

Oh, goddamnit.

“No.”

“Then what are you suggesting, exactly?”

“That you sit down, shut up, and don’t get shot.”

Penar stood up, and advanced until he saw the muzzle of the Luger.

“As you so bluntly put it, I am the Commodore. I rule here, Penar. If you want to be a hotshot young yacht captain with pussy on your lap, then I could offer you the Arreschere. You c0uld have asked for the Arreschere, and you’d have gotten it, too. I need someone with guts and brains, and you have both.”

“But no, somebody has to have a hissy fit about his ship, about his precious ‘independent command’. Well, thank you for helping me decide the pecking order around here, Penar. You get the next boat available we find, and you get your pick of the dregs, if any will come with you. Whip them into a crew, and you might see an advance in the lists. Until then, you are stripped of command.”

Penar looked aghast.

“Gentlemen, take him to the common living quarters and pour him a single round of scotch. He needs it.”

With that problem handled, you groaned softly. Now you had to find out a good way to handle command structure. Fun…
