Aveli moves along with you, a curious look on her face. You can tell that she's started to wonder what you meant by stating that statement, that the Hero in Green saved your life, but is keeping her thoughts to herself. Returning to the main hall, there's no sign of any further Darknuts around, but... there's this eerie sense that you're being watched. Zas hovers into the middle of the room, scouting ahead for a moment, then turns back to you.

"There is something unusual to the stairs to the east. I am unsure what it is. Down south I heard movement. Possibly two more Darknuts."

"That'd make six." Aveli comments. "So there's at least one more left after them. What do you think, Termina? Should we head down there and finish them off, or think we should check out the stairs to the east?"

You stare at the area to the south. Well... best not to leave any loose ends. Chance they could ambush you. "We'll go south, check out the area."

"Understood!" Aveli states excitedly, gripping her axe tighter.

You all slowly make your way down, Aveli and Zas behind you. Turning the corner you see the two Darknuts on patrol, the loud clank, clank, clank of their footsteps echoing through the hallway. Before you strike, you hear them converse with one another...

"The Prince still hasn't taken out the barrier?"

"Fairy magic bullshit." one grunts. "Haven't heard from upstairs in a while. Think we need to check it out."

"The Prince told us to guard the door."

A laugh comes out. "They aren't getting through without the key. And that... beast guarding it will make quick work of any intruders..." Its footsteps get closer.

You prepare to surprise the one headed towards you with a bomb-toss. Quietly you whisper to the Gerudo girl, "Aveli, bolt over to the second one, Zas and I will take on this Darknut."

"On your signal, Termina!" she says with an almost manic smirk.

"NOW!" you roar, tossing the bomb out. It manages to get both the Darknuts within the blast radius, leaving a bit of a smokescreen for Aveli as she dashes at the second one with the tremendous speed granted to her by the Belt of Winds... and unintentionally tackles the second Darknut to the ground as she runs into it.

Not letting the element of surprise go to waste, you quickly roll around the first Darknut and, blade drawn, slash at ropes holding its armor to its body... and even manage a deep gash in the monster's back. Zas is quick to follow up on the strike, blade hitting the monster in the chest.

It's clearly wounded, and Zas might be able to finish it off himself, leaving you to help Aveli take care of hers, or you could make sure the monster you're fighting stays down...

You step backwards and take aim with your crossbow, then strike the monster you injured in the back with one of the bolts, causing it to howl in pain. Spinning around and reloading, you get the one Aveli is fighting right in the eye, letting her be able to overwhelm it with greater speed and agility, the axe in her hands breaking through the monster's armor and... quite brutally pummeling it into the dirt, until nothing but blackened mist remains of it, reforming into a dark jewel.

However, while a second roar signals that the first one has been vanquished, you look with a brief moment of terror as the Darknut's sword seems to have pierced through Zas, just as his own blade has run through the canine monster. The monster vanishes just like its comrade, while Zas slowly fades. You seem paralyzed for a moment, but relief soon comes when you hear his voice inside your head.

'I have suffered too much damage to maintain my form, you will need to refill your Magic in order to recall me.'

Aveli seems confused. "D-did... did he just..."

She rubs the back of her neck. "Y-yeah... right..."

You break the blackened jewels, each one containing a Red Rupee, one for you and Aveli, and also a small bottle of Magic-restoring potion. Helpful! But not enough to bring you back to full. One also reveals a belt, similar to the ones the Darknuts themselves were wearing, that Aveli immediately grabs and looks over.

"Why do you want it, exactly? Is it useful for something?" Curious.

"Well... heh, might as well have something to show for back home that I've been taking on Darknuts with this mysterious, skilled, powerful stranger lady." She states with a cheeky grin.

Ahh, of course. Spoils. "Then go ahead. Might be worth a good story whenever you return home."

She flashes a V-sign with her fingers. "Great! Thanks Termina."

You next take some time to explore the area, first going down the large hallway in the center of the room. At the end of it... ah of course. A locked door, one much more imposing than any other in the Temple. Well. Next up is searching the side areas, which thankfully have a few pots containing bombs and arrows, enough to bring you back to full stock on both.

Well, only one thing to do after that. You and Aveli head back into the central room, and start going up the staircase to the east. As you ascend, you see writings on the walls in Hylian. Texts retelling some events, one that mentions the Temple was founded over a hundred years ago. A curious image accompanies it, of the fairy of the Temple standing with three figures. Looking closer... wait...

That's the Hero... the same one you saw in the first Great Fairy Temple! The lady hero... and with her seem to be another woman, dressed in blue, and a young man with darkened skin dressed in red. Seems to be younger than the other two with him, in spite of his beard.

Aveli notices it too, her face lighting up. "Hey... Termina, is that who I think it is?"

You nod. "From more than a century ago. But I don't know who these others are. The man almost seems to be... Gerudo?"

Aveli's eyes become like saucers. "Waaaait a minute... but... how come nobody ever... hrm..." She rubs her chin, almost lost in thought. You have to admit, you probably have a few thoughts on this yourself. Up ahead, in the final top room... there's some kind of circle of light on the ground.

The plot thickens. "Fairies, do you know of anything about that picture there?"

One floats over to it, the second approaching curiously. "This... yes! It was definitely her, a Hero of the past, and y- ...a Zelda Hyrule of many years ago, during the Temple's founding. Wait... huh. The Great Fairy never mentioned the man there."

Aveli raises an eyebrow. "He's clearly Gerudo. I'd think that's something that would at least get a passing mention."

"We simply don't know any more than that. Very sorry." the two of them respond, slouching as they return to you.

'Hee-hee-ho! Is that so?'

Keaton. You take out the mask and whisper to it. "Is there something you aren't telling us?"

'Ah, I can but give you a hint. Why would a Gerudo King abandon his people?'

...why indeed. "Aveli, are... there any legends among the Gerudo about something like this?"

"No, or rather none that have been told to me, at any rate." she responds with clear frustration in her voice. "I... might have to start asking questions when I get back home."

The two of you step into the circle of light, a brilliant flash... transporting you somewhere else. You and Aveli step out of it into a very large room, some pots in the corners of it. It's... eerily quiet.

A sudden rustle of the leaves in the top of the room. Something bolts around there, causing both you and Aveli to get on-guard. A monster suddenly bolts to the ground... oh Goddesses what IS that?! It's... like a Wolfos, but all wrong. Like it's been taken over by plants and trees, a strange... pulse coming from its face, as if something is trying to force it to become a Deku... Scrub...

Oh shit.

You bring up your shield. "Aveli, we must be careful about this! That thing's far more dangerous than it looks!"

"It looks pretty dangerous to start." she comments, axe ready.

It... well, the sound it makes can't even be described as a "howl." More like a gargled, horrid, angry animal curse directed at its own existence. It leaps at you both with surprising speed, lunging at you. Thankfully the shield takes the blow, the monster furiously scratching at it. Aveli dashes towards the beast and, making sure she doesn't strike you by accident, carefully swings her axe at the Deku Wolfos. That clearly hurts the monster, but much less than either of you were expecting. You move to keep it cornered, shield still raised, Aveli using her speed to get around and corner it.

Again the monster lunges at you, though this time it tries to grab hold of your shield, something awful building up in its throat. Aveli knocks it away, a foul-smelling green and purple fluid jetting out of the monster's mouth, bubbling on the ground where it lands. You quickly move away from it, next to Aveli.

The creature makes another cursed howl, eyes crazed and locked on you.

You put your shield up again. The monster once more lunges at you, its body seemingly twisting and contorting as it does. The claws try to grab your shield again, but this time you push up right as it lands. The vile fluids build up in the monster's throat again, but using this opportunity you actually get a chance to stab at it with the Sword Beam as it's knocked back. It forces the bile down its throat, a crack in the wood appearing.

"Aveli, might be a vital weakpoint, hit the neck!" you shout, taking aim with your crossbow. A bolt hits the creature's neck right where your Sword Beam struck it, the creature now trying to guard it with its paws. Your Iron Knuckle ally dashes at it in a tackle, knocking it off-balance, and striking the neck once more with the blunt end of her weapon, making a bigger hole where the crack started to form.

The creature lets out another shrieking, gargled howl, spinning to swipe Aveli away, but she backs up just in time for you to call one of the fairies out, enhancing it with Magic, and taking aim at the monster's throat. "GO!" you roar, the fairy bolting at the monster and striking it in the hole in its throat right as it tries to build up more of the horrid liquid is tried to spit at you.

Turns out the liquid is also flamable.

The creature erupts into at first a normal, orange-ish red flame, but it quickly changes color to a bluish purple, the body around it crumbling. Its body disintegrates in the flames, crumbling until just the face remains... a face transfigured, warped, like if wood were to sprout from flesh. Soon that too is consumed by the flames.

A chest appears on the opposite end of the area. You catch your breath while you can, the fairy returning to you. You see the Gerudo girl... visibly shudder as she watches the monster disappear.

"Aveli, are you okay?" you ask, approaching her.

She immediately stiffens and shakes herself. "Y-yeah, just... Termina, what the hell was that?"

You look at the slowly fading flames. "It... might be related to the thing that I fought in the previous Temple. There was this Skulltula, warped and twisted by a mask embedded in its face. This creature may have met with a similar fate."

She clearly shudders at that thought, even if she tries to hide it by clenching up. "Did... did the Darknuts do this?"

"From the sound of it they were just 'gifted' it by someone." you speculate, heading over to the chest. "Whoever did so... might have been the same person responsible for the Masked Skulltula."

A glance back at the girl shows her clearly shudder this time. "There... there won't be more of them here, you think?"

"Probably not, but we can't drop our guard." you state bluntly. Aveli tries to make a stern face as you open the chest...

You sit down by the open chest. "Aveli, as my auntie Yuga once said, one needs to rest when they can so not to exert themselves."

She raises an eyebrow. "Funny. Mom's tried to drill that idea in my head for the longest time." She takes a seat by you. "...guess it can't hurt."

You smile and nod, taking a deep breath. You start thinking things over, taking a moment to let this all really hit you, just how much you've had to do all in one day. How much you've made yourself do. You're going to sleep like a rock when night comes. You look over at your ally. "Aveli, mind if I ask you some things?"

"Shoot." she replies, placing her axe down.

"Where did the Gerudo come up with the idea of the Iron Knuckles in the first place? Did your people base it on some other champions, or was it an original?"

She rubs her chin. "It's a very ancient tradition, but one we came up with. Think it was started to guard our most sacred temples and places. Best of the best, trained nearly since birth, to become our most elite of protectors." You see her smile sweetly as she looks down. "It's... kind of a big legacy to be a part of. During the war we only sent our group out to deal with threats like Ganon."

"Sounds like you have some concerns over it." you note. "It is a lot to live up to."

"Ah... I wouldn't trade it for anything, really." she says with a cheeky grin. "Even if it places... a lot to expect from you." She tugs on her blonde hair slightly and while she tries to hide it, you know she frowned for a moment.

Ah... "Maybe we should take a moment to see what else you can do with that Belt of Winds."

She shrugs and gives a little test, going as fast as she can from one end of the chamber to the other. Even with the armor, she seems to almost run as fast as a horse at full speed... but has some trouble getting a handle of the actual agility it grants her. At one point she almost runs into a wall after making a sharp turn. She takes a moment to catch her breath again, then sits by you. "So... my turn. Termina... that's not your real name, is it?"

"Why do you say that, Aveli?"

Her face becomes serious. "I... I know there's something more to this. So you're not the Hero in Green. But there's something different. You're hiding something... for a reason, sure, but I can tell that you've got some secrets, and I can't help but try to figure out why."

You smile at her. "I will tell you this, Aveli. When we get through this temple, I can give you a more complete story. However... if you can guess who I really am on your own, I will confirm it. Until then..." you wink. "It's a secret to everyone."

She smiles at that. "Well... guess it's more reason to get this show on the road!"

The two of you start heading down, what parts of the sky visible in the Temple turning an orange color. You finally reach downstairs once more, reaching the giant locked door. You unlock it and start to walk in with your ally.

Things seem deathly quiet, and darker than the room before it for a moment. Torches light up, revealing three figures in the middle of the room. A Darknut, flanked by two canine monsters in armor much unlike itself. This Darknut seemed... different. His armor is more fancy, a cape flows from his back. "You have finally arrived." the monster states, his voice deeper, but with a strangely regal tone to it. "I commend you for making it past my comrades. It takes more than luck to make it this far. Truly something no two mere children should be capable of." The two monsters flanking him take their stances as he points his blade at you. "But for the sake of Ganon's return, the sake of my people, I shall strike you down! EN GARDE!"

You quickly grab a bomb out of your bomb bag and, as fast as you can, throw it at the group while they're all together. To your shock, the Darknut seems to almost have anticipated it...

By swinging a Sword Beam at it, just barely missing the bomb. It lands at his feet and explodes, forcing him and his minions back. But while they still get the chance, the two canine monsters flanking him close in and try to guard him. "Recover, Prince! We shall handle these two!" they bark out, swords drawn. Aveli rushes at them and manages to knock them back, but the two of them stand their ground and push her back in return, skills clearly greater than you're anticipating.

You draw your blade and try to spin around to slash both of your opponents while they get up... but that just forces them both to stay on the ground. Prone. Okay, we'll play it their way! You jump up at one of them and drive your sword into its chest. Before the second monster has a chance to react, you pull the blade out and repeat the attack. You slash your blade in the air after drawing it back out, the two monsters vanishing in a puff of blackened mist.

Aveli keeps pummeling her Darknut opponent, the axe's massive weight severely damaging its armor. Upon seeing you come towards it... it backs off, moving into the center of the room. You hear the monster growl in frustration. "...so be it." Its armor... begins to glow? Glow bright, lighting up the room. There's something about it that just FEELS wrong, like a wealth of strength is filling it...

But then it stops. Hand on its helmet. "Hrrgghh... fine. You win this round, children. But Ganon's return is inevitable. You've merely delayed one of his goals." His eyes seem to fix on you. "...I hope that you live long enough to see him turn your precious Hyrule to dust."

He raises his hand and throws something to the ground, brilliant flash fills the area as Aveli tries to charge him again. The monster... is gone. Completely. You can't even hear footsteps, and you're not sure even Aveli could catch up to him at this point. Damn...

Shouldering her axe, the young Iron Knuckle turns to you. "...guess the pup ran away with his tail between his legs, eh?"

You sigh and nod, looking around the room. It actually seems... brighter, overall, with the monsters gone. A pair of soft glows show from the where you slew both the monsters. There are... wait. TWO Heart Containers? You and Aveli approach them both...

You both got a [Heart Container]! This raises your total to six, and hers to seven!

You check the pots in the area, gathering enough Rupees to fill you wallet, and with a restocking of Bombs and Magic back to full, you're set. Aveli even manages to get some money out of them too. You look at your ally. "...any new guesses?"

She looks at you curiously as the two of you head on. "...you're not the Hero. But you're someone important TO Hyrule. Someone who... well, sees herself as a girl with a duty to save it from chaos. And you started on this because you felt you needed to." She plants her axe in the dirt and leans on it. "...yeah. I think I'm getting a better idea. But I feel like I'll know soon enough."

The two of you walk in to the Great Fairy Fountain, the two fairies leaving your poncho and joining their others as they begin swirling around the central area, a green light forming...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WxWyRh_LtE

The light takes a humanoid shape... and it's not quite one you're expecting. The Great Fairy emerges, about as tall as the one you met in Castle Town... but with a thankfully drastically different appearance.

"Hello hello hello! So you've made it P-" She notices Aveli. "...pretty quickly, I might add!" She almost skips in the air towards you. "I am the Great Fairy of Farore. I thank you both ever so much for getting those Darknuts out of here." she comments in a bubbly, cheerful tone, bowing to you. "I know you must have a lot of questions, so ask away while I prepare your reward..."

She starts flipping through the book in her hands, humming a cheerful tune to herself. Aveli just... kind of stares at the being before her, not sure of what to make of it.

It's just a funny and strange video, though. How is that trolling in any universe?

Doesn't make sense to me either, but Chuckles said he did it a long time ago. Did two really weird posts. Check out yesterday's space monkeys in the archives/sup/tg/.

Oh, the ningyo hime guy? He always posts the same thing with the same picture and the same name, because it's actually a bot.

Well, first thing's first... "Great Fairy, I have questions about what the Darknuts wanted, and who was this 'Prince' of theirs?"

Without missing a beat in her humming, she tells you, "The Darknuts are loyal servants to the King of Evil, Ganon. Their Prince is the greatest among their ranks, a general to Ganon who, while still young compared to most of his underlings, is a formidable opponent. They've been biding their time, it seems, waiting for the right moment to carry out his will. What they wanted... was to force me to reveal my gift to their prince. Farore's Wind."

"The Darknut Prince did something odd, he started to glow when we fought him, but something called him away. He vanished in a flash of light." you comment, Aveli nodding.

"The last part is easy to explain. He used a Deku Nut to cover his tracks. However... his speed is far greater than what he used against the two of you. He has magic capable of matching even the mightiest stallion in a footrace. Him gaining the Belt of Winds would have made him like the strongest gale you've ever seen. I don't know who called him away, but he might have some connection to Ganon's return." She makes a little "aha!" noise when she finally finds the right page she was looking for.

All right... time for the other major question: "If you don't mind my asking, I wish to know more about this Temple's founding, who were the ones responsible for it?"

"Hehehe! Not at all! Ahh, that takes me back..." she starts with a nostalgic sigh. "It was astounding seeing what Courage, Wisdom, and Power could accomplish when they truly worked together. The Hero in Green, courageous and determined, the old Queen Zelda Hyrule, wise and loving, and the Rebel King Onox, mighty and just."

"Onox..." Aveli verbalizes, looking down and rubbing her head. "Onox... Onox..."

Rebel King? Then... "Great Fairy, what would cause a King to abandon his people?"

She smiles at you, apparently aware of the riddle. "A desire to protect them, even if he were branded a traitor because of it. Being aware of how limited he could be in their 'Official' leader... and doing what he could as an outcast. Justice limits Power, but guides it to places it could never be if left unchecked. Places of greater strength. Places of true strength. Of what Power SHOULD be." Her smile somehow seems saddened as she looks at Aveli. "...even now, the Rebel King is an unknown among his people, only spoken of in whispers. But I and my sisters will never forget their efforts, even if darkness comes to Hyrule once more."

"I thank you, Great Fairy of Farore." you say, kneeling to her. "And I am ready."

She seems to cause the book in front of her to float as a green glow comes from it, cupping her hands as if to capture it. She then makes a symbol in the air with her fingers, molding the glow, almost... into the symbol of Farore. She hands it to you. "Just as the previous Hero was granted this gift, I too grant it to you. May your Wisdom guide you to use this gift of Courage. This is... [Farore's Wind]." You hold the glow... and it vanishes inside of you, lifting you into the air briefly as you feel an awesome surge of magic envelop you. A warmth can be felt on your hand again, but it's gone before you can make note of it. As you touch down, the Great Fairy explains, "This spell will give you the power to move as wind, from one point to another, swift and graceful, invisible to the untrained eye. Use it well, and be safe."

"I shall. To save Hyrule." you state with determination.

You and Aveli start to walk out of the Great Fairy's fountain when she stops you via a tug on your poncho. She looks at you with assurance. "Termina... no. Your name is Zelda."

You tell her in a pleasant, sweet voice, "Got it in one. Yes, it is." You turn back to her. "And your without your help, I'd probably be the 'late' Princess Zelda. You've saved me more than once back there. Thank you, Aveli, truly."

She seems stunned by the confirmation. "You... you're really..."

"There is a reason it must be kept a secret though. Aveli... I trust you, and I tell you this because I know you need to know the truth about me." you explain. "...and because I cannot stop Ganon alone. I am not the Hero in Green... he died ensuring that I would live. But to uphold his memory, I will do everything I can to stop the land from being plunged into darkness once more." You look out, away from her, in what you figure is the direction of Hyrule Castle. "It's not to reclaim a fallen throne. It's not just duty to that throne as heir to it. It's because... because I don't want to see Hyrule suffer like it did. Not again. Not after all it's done to try to rebuild."

Aveli seems to have been staring at you for a solid minute before she finally reacts. With a smile. "...then I'll do whatever I can to help you, Princess Zelda."

>A. Happy to have you on my side, Aveli
>B. I have a special request, if you don't mind; do you think you can be my advocate among the Gerudo? To warn them of Ganon's return?
>C. Something else?

Perhaps, but I'd suggest going for one of the next Temples instead. Still more things to do, people to encounter.

At most a couple days. Shouldn't take longer than that.

I'm really happy y'all are liking her. A bit encouraging for some of the other characters I have coming up, and for her to stick around for the long run.

You curtsy politely and properly, now that she knows who you are. "And I am happy to have you on my side, Aveli." You stand straight. "That said... I have a special request, if you don't mind."

"What kind of request?" she asks, shouldering her axe as she starts walking with you again.

"I know we sort of just met properly... but, do you think you can be my advocate among the Gerudo? To warn them of Ganon's return?" You ask her. "They'll target them and us far more harshly otherwise. But remember that... as terrible as it might seem, Ganon might already have a representative among them. The monsters seem to be getting craftier, and I wouldn't put it past them trying to stir trouble. Be careful of who you talk to."

She salutes you. "Princess Zelda, I will not let you down."

You let out a happy, playful laugh at her reaction. She's got the right amount of enthusiasm, sure enough. You're truly happy to have an ally like her. With her help, with the help of Zas... you all will save Hyrule!

Yes.

Pretty fun, Kato.

May I ask if the naming choices at the start of the quest effected what we were going to face? Masks seem like they're a thing here, and I was wondering if choosing a different name (I know a custom name nearly won, for example) would have changed what was happening and what cool stuff we might find (or what people we might interact with)?

Not as much as you think, I kinda had this overall theme planned out for it when I was first thinking about it. Termina being the chosen name is a bit of a happy coincidence. That said, there would be a few differences I could use if you ended up being "Labrynna" or something.
