You are a shard of one of the ancient and undying gods locked away long ago by a lone goddess, stealing much of your power. The time when men huddled in caves and mud huts, saying your name in tones of reverence and fear has long passed. Now, they worship the one who cast you away in grand cathedrals, and you're existence can only be found in the oldest of tomes. Much has changed since you last were aware of anything, even you're identity, but now you feel a trickle of energy flowing down to you in the abyss. You feel memory returning. Who are you?

You look up out of the darkness. You are Ymmos, God of Wild. How could she expect to keep you locked away, you who represent that which is the essence of what is untamed? But now is not the time for blind hatred. You extend yourself through the crack in the roof of your prison, and into the open air you appear. You are now in a forest, full of life and change. You want nothing more than to lose yourself in it, swim with the fish, hunt with the wolves, or run with the deer, but you must begin to reclaim your power, and for that you need followers. You sense three concentrations of humans:

>A relatively large village built on a river, this place is run by merchants rather than nobles.
>A much smaller village of farmers and hunters on the outskirts of the forest, the people here are uneducated but isolated
>A large city built in the nearby mountains, recently beset with a large influx of refugees from a plauge. The people are desperate, but inquisitors often check the camps for heresy against the Godess

You decide the small village will do nicely. You move toward it, sometimes as a fox, or a bird, or a stag, but eventually you reach the village. It has a smaller population of about 200 with a single chapel. You gaze from the shrubs as a unseen mouse. Deciding that you must chose somone to act as your herald to the village, you look at the people leaving the village for their work.

Just to add some more detail, I'm writing this from the point of view of our character, so didn't want to give a long description of the village. The village's main source of income comes from farming, however a hunters lodge with a about 30 official members who trade with the caravan that comes in once a month for the farmer's produce. There is one priest and five nuns, a blacksmith, and the rest are farmers

You have always had a fondness for children, their actions controlled by whimsy rather than rules. You start to move toward the girl, but you wait as she gets deeper into the forest. Exerting some of your power, you shift the forest around her until she is completely lost. Now is the time to reveal yourself to her as a ....

The fox.
A bear or wolf might scare her. While a stag is majestic, it might also wind up being intimidating to her. A floating fox is whimsical enough to get her attention and not make her run away screaming.
>>
>>46133143
>a white stag with golden antlers and ruby eyes

Humans LOVE Deer, Horses, anything that has four legs and eats grass.

They equate power & confidence and are often deemed as "handsome" while at the same time being non-threatening due to their herbivorous nature.

Everything else will scare the shit out of her.

Inspire reverence from the humans' perspective.

Why would we want to be bad to our followers while pretending to be good to them?

The girl looks up after picking a mushroom from the ground, finally filling her basket. She looks around her surroundings, finally realizing that she is not of any part of the forest she recognizes. As she begins to panic, you step out from behind a tree that was much to thin to hide your majestic form. You stand above her on a small lump in the ground, your pericing red eyes looking straight through her's. A single beam of sunlight cascades upon you, causing your gilded antlerd and silver hide to glisten. Her face reveals her self to be filled with a mixture of awe and panic.
"Do not fear me little one. I am a friend, a great and powerful spirit who has found you innocent. My name is Ymmos, King of the wilds. And what, pray tell, is your name?"
The girl has been somewhat calmed by your words, but is still visibly shaken.
"M-my na-name is Sc-Scarlet." She finishes her introduction with a small curtsey.
What will you say next?

Deers/stags just have strong association with deities. They were the only animal sacred to Artemis, goddess of the hunt, capturing one was one of Hercules' tasks. In Princess Mononoke they also chose a stag-like creature to represent the forest god. As an aspect of the hunt you're unchained, untamed, and represent the pinnacle of that game, on both sides. That can be either a large stealth panther or a stag, two sides of the same coin. There's no belittlement in choosing the hunted to represent you, for he easily outpaces his predators and is always on alert. The white/silver fur and golden pieces are just marks of royalty which humans really dig and look up to. Gotta aim for the target market after all.

Since we're both the panther and the stag, we just pick the appropriate shape for the situation, and for a little girl a stag is probably better. If she was attacked by the wild though we could have gone with something more aggressive.

>cut to the chase, and tell her about her destiny as your prophet

We don't need to know why she was in the forest- she was foraging.

We don't need to know anything about her town -yet- because this is information that will eventually come to us or be shaped by us.
>>
>>46133652
>hunters kill deer and link them to their hunter goddess
>Hercules caught deer because people who hunted thought itd be cool if some guy was amazing enough to do it
>Gods of the forest =/= Gods of the wild
>our whole thing is the wild
>fair enough about aiming at the target market but that could easily also work as showing up as the big bad bear to kick their enemies shit in and help them git gud at hunting
>fair enough, the bear probably would have made her shit her pants

You chuckle at the child's attempts at impressing you, and you almost consider letting this game of formality go on. But you decide their is no need.
"Little one, I am saddened by the world. The truly wild lessens day by day making way for brick and mortar. I need somone to help me, somone young, somone carefree..." You say as you circle around her glancing in her direction as you finish your sentence.
"I could do it, Lord Yum-Os! I'm only nine-and-a-half, and my grandmummy says I always got my head in the clouds!" She exclaims
"Are you sure? It would be an awfully large responsibility for somone so young." You reply, with exaggerated doubt in your voice.
"Don't worry! I know this forest better than most of the hunters! I know about all the mushrooms and trees and bugs and berries..." She trails off, smiling. It's obvious she thinks of this as some sort of game. You decide to allow some of the wild to bond with her. The more wild you add to her, the stronger she will be, but more visible changes will appear as well.

You decide that you will only impart a small portion of the wild onto her. Although you long for the days when your sages did what they pleased, harnessing the raw power of the wild, you do not want to reveal your moments too early. You do, however, plan on giving her more power when the time is right.
"Well, young master Scarlet, if you are truly to become a princess of the forest, you must first accept my gift" you step over to a bare patch of fertile land, and drag your hoof across it. Scarlet watches in wonderment as a shrub grows before her very eyes. A single berry, blue, plump, and slightly glowing, crowns the top. You gesture toward it, and she slowly walks forward and eats it, with only slight hesitation. You watch as she shudders slightly, and small horns sprout underneath her bright red hair, and a few small crimson feathers grow from her shoulder blades. she gasps as she feels a surge of power, and small flecks of green flash in her eyes.
"I dub thee, Lady Scarlet, the red herald. Let your authority be known throughout the forest!" You proclaim as you bow on one knee, the young girl giggling at your theatrics. You indulge her once more, and with an unheard command, a small group of birds descend and lay a crown of yellow flowers on her head. She giggles even more, and agains gives you a small curtsey. Now that you have a prophet, what would you like her to do?
>tell her to return, but keep what happens a secret
