There is a noticeable, starking difference between running a census and actually spending the better part of a day meeting people.

Aside from the odd newcomer (and an actual newborn) the amount of people in New Royo hasn't changed, but in all honesty you couldn't claim to remember everyone in the first place. Sure, most faces were familiar, but you've also spent less time in town than Bryld did.

In addition to that, you have plenty of things that set you apart from the rest and it's not just about your appearance. For one, you find out that Astreya doesn't show her face around town much, and being a high-caliber magic user that struts around with a demon on a (figurative) leash it's easier to spread strange rumours about her than it is to get to know her better.

Not that there was any overt ill intent in all the talk about her, just as there wasn't about you. You even found out that some people assumed you were spending plenty of time with Astreya or out of town not just to explore but also because of some sort of strange implicit agreement between you and Agnes. They don't know of your genital situation, of course, which makes it easy to guess why they were thinking you were both very deeply into women and agreed to not hunt in the same grounds for the sake of peace. Like lions.

Even though their guess was off you suppose you do have a bit of competition in this regard. Then again, you compete with both sexes for both sexes so you're really just an outlier in everything sex-related.

Most importantly, everyone is glad to have had a chance to talk to you. They know you were helping making cheese this morning, proof that this town really is small given how fast news and rumours spread.

That and the childhood friends you brought here from Reboldeaux had only good things to say about you.

Not that you're concerned about her potential reputation considering Tahenohan seems to have a certain popularity, especially with the kids, but you feel like asking more about her just to make sure they are actually prepared to deal with a half-elf. You also suspect they still don't know about her being a necromancer though they may have had some grounds to believe she is a magic-user, if anything because she's quite liberal when talking about such things.

A relatively quick survey fills you with a plethora of news and impressions about your half-elf friend, to the point you're quite surprised she managed to do this much even though hasn't been away from your side for too long at any given time. Apparently she's been advertising her cheesemaking skills ever since there was talk of setting up shop, and she's been dealing with the volunteer brigade and spending time with Agnes to help her out. She tried to teach them her second-hand knowledge of combat in formation and rambled on about staying spaced with reach weapons so as to trigger attacks of opportunity. Understandably enough, there has been no significant improvement despite her efforts.

Your friends, who have quickly become the go-to authority to gain information about you, had precious little to share in her regards. Same goes for your father, although him being very clearly an adventurer makes him a bit harder to approach for rural folk.

"Do you have any idea how old she is?", someone asks at a certain point, "My kids have been pestering her for stories all the time and she constantly had something new to say. Tales from faraway lands and exotic places, some amusing, some strange and some... Well, let's just say that sometimes she's just plain awkward".

>”She's about as old as I am”.

"I think she's less than a hundred years old", you go out on a guess. She never flat-out told you her age but she has to be at least twice as old as you are. She doesn't quite look as ageless as Astreya, and now that you've met a magic user of her kind you feel a little more confident in distinguishing when someone is actually young or just so full of magic that aging stops being a problem.

That sounds impressive but it's a skill you never even thought could exist, let alone be of any use.

"Let's also consider she travels a lot", you then add, in an attempt to be more helpful, "It won't be long before she moves somewhere else again. I think this strong wanderlust comes from her elven descent".

The idea that someone that looked and most importantly behaved like that could be that old isn't as mind-blowing as you, or anyone else for that matter, thought it would be. The pointy ears and the strange overall looks already prepare you for something out of the ordinary, and straying too far from civilization anywhere in Nalesia is pretty much certain to land you somewhere uncanny.

"To be honest I don't know", you conclude with a smile, "She's certainly older than I am".

"That right", one of the elders chuckles, "Hers is not book smart. She's life experience, that lass". Further probing reveals that she had the chance to show off an amazing resourcefulness when it comes to daily chores and generally useful knowledge. Preparing poultices, cooking, mending minor wounds, making small repairs, this sort of down-to-the-ground wisdom.

"You mean she'll be gone soon?", the younger in the crowd seem somewhat saddened by this.

>”We're explorers, we were never meant to stay for long”.
>”Maner is a better home base than here”.
>”You can't hope to stop her wanderlust”.

Anon pls, these are kids! No lewdness!
>>
"You can't hope to stop her wanderlust", you are forced to admit. It hasn't been tremendously strong in your experience but then again you haven't been with her for THAT long. More than a month but less than a year. You've had more stable relationships in the past, and you definitely wouldn't call them "stable" or "long-lived" at all now. "Besides, we're explorers, we were never meant to stay for long", you add later to try and not make those who were growing fond of her sad.

Including yourself.

An elderly woman bursts out in a somewhat coarse laugh, the sort that comes with age when your lungs aren't quite what they used to be, and you walk around visibly hunched, "I spent all me time when I was a strong, sexy lass like you clinging to my hubby an' I was afraid of the day death would do us part", she confesses with a smile that's missing a certain amount of teeth, "Sixty years and five kids make you so sick of hearing him whinge you wish he go join Nao so you can die in peace".

"Grandma, please...", someone who can't be younger than you are sighs as she keeps on laughing. Of course this kind of wisdom is wasted on the youngest, you're old enough to realize this much.

"Don't worry", you tell them, "I'm sure she'll come back from time to time".

But neither of you really believes that.

“Speaking of which”, someone completely unrelated but still thirsty for gossip intervenes to break the mood away from where it was, “Is the woman travelling with your father your sister? I mean she looks a bit young to be your moth- er, foster mother?”. The suspect that an uncomfortable topic has been touched lingers in the air.

>”She's not my sister”.
>”She's my sister”.

Actually, we should ask him if she's Lillith's new mother.
>>
You've never really delved deep into such details. You certainly have your ideas and suspicions, but actually going out to confirm them is another matter entirely, and one you're not sure you want to tackle at this very moment in front of a lot of people.

The fact you're a cambion hasn't escaped anyone, of this you're quite certain, and you're pretty sure they might have mistaken Meztli for your stepsister, although they simply called her "sister" because, as your own experience teaches you, there's precious little people who point the lack of an obvious bloodline connection in others out loud and in public. She looks a bit too young to be your mother, in fact, though you can never be too sure. You haven't seen many lizardfolk before. Actually you never have, and you suspect most of the crowd around you hasn't either.

"I think she's just dad's current girlfriend but we've been, uh, separated for a long time so I'm not sure", you knew you couldn't just get away with not saying anything in this kind of situation, and you also know that these are decent people who won't further pry into your own personal affairs. As expected, the matter is left as it is.

“Well I know most people prefer to move on to Maner because it's a bigger hub and everything”, someone else fortunately adds to keep the conversation alive, “Are you city folk too?”.

“We actually have to meet the marquise since we're going to explore for her. Or him”, Bryld helpfully intervenes.

“The marquise?”, there's a bit of surprise at first which then leaves room for unease once it becomes obvious that you were of course meant to see her for an exploration charter. “Oh, right. Er, it's a she, yes”.

>”We just need to get the charter”.
>”Maner will give us more opportunities”.

"Is the marquise a bad person?", you ask, noticing that there was a peculiar pause and much wavering about when she was mentioned. The more you think about it, the more you realize they weren't surprised because you had to meet with a noble but rather that you mentioned a particular one.

The question you asked might have been a bit harsh considering the reactions are very quick and you're almost drowned in a concerned choir of "No no no no no!" and similar excuses which you can't quite pick up.

You've talked with Bryld about people of different station just this late morning. It's unsurprising that nobody wants to speak ill of a noble, especially not the ruling one, especially not a very important one, and people are especially careful about spreading rumours about particularly cruel rulers.

You have to confirm, even if this gets you strange looks, you might regret not doing so. "I just- I know- Even if it's just rumour, what do people say about her?".

"Just that... Well", there's much coughing and people pretending to not know what to say, "There's a lot of talk about her claim to the Shadow Marches being... Iffy". "But legal!", someone adds, "It's legal! The king said so!". "He wasn't very happy though... Or so I heard!".

"But... Has she done anything bad?", Bryld asks at some point, her bunny ears drooping a little.

Of course, there's not a single anecdote anyone can claim to come from this marquise and to be about her supposed... Being bad? You understand that a claim to a land being “iffy” is a big problem, but you're not sure this is going to affect you. You hope it won't.

Well at least she won't bite your head off or put you to the sword, the very worst that can happen is that there's some kind of change and your charter might need to be re-done.

To make everything lighter again, you decide to bring the conversation back to yourself. You're not the kind of person that's embarrassed to be at the centre of attention after all, especially when talking positively and lightening the mood. Even Bryld welcomes such change in tone.

You're also pleasantly surprised by the banality of the questions you receive. How do your horns feel, how does your tail feel and how sensitive it is... You're certainly not the only one around with a tail but yours is leathery and devoid of fur, and therefore quite unique. It also appears that people expect you to be able to see in the dark for some reason or another, a myth that you debunk instantly before you're asked to traipse around in the night.

Not that you don't on your own already.

You also ask about your friends, and find out that Lucas and Zillis have, in fact, started to work with the Wensley brothers. Mires, owing to her restlessness, started out as a forager but might actually start going to and fro the caravansery to bring messages and other things as soon as trade picks up again.

You also find out that Reiram has been working a lot with the temple of Gaia, but not to help with the building, as his size and muscle would suggest, but rather with the crops and gardens. Apparently he's very appreciated for his green thumb, of which you weren't aware. People estimate that before next year agriculture might make foraging not quite irrelevant but also not as necessary as it is today.

Even while you were strolling around with Bryld you did notice that people were starting to plow a lot of places. The typical brown and red habit of Gaia's clerics sometimes led them to identify the most fertile spots.

In a few years, New Royo might even become a bustling town.

The sun isn't quite setting, but spending time with people, eating together with them and relaxing in general is always pleasant. There's been quite some interchange since almost everyone has been busy at one moment or another with some kind of work around town, but no one is quite overworked.

There's only one thing you have left to do before you call this a day and go back to Tahenohan, possibly with some dinner. You have to inquire about Bryld.

"She's cute", is the first thing you hear, which makes her instantly blush and try to hide behind you while other people laugh in good spirit. "It shows she's city folk", someone else adds, "I can tell from the accent she's been in Prontera for a long time".

You find out she hasn't been born there, in fact, but has moved when she was very little and that allowed her to study and become a cartographer. You already know the rest of the story, about how she departed and met Luna along her way, and now she's at your side, helping you and being source of juicy gossip.

"Since she'll be busy making maps, she can settle down here", someone suggests, "There's plenty of boys who would like to take her home already".

"Noooooo", she goes, hiding behind you. There's some more laughter, and you know she's being overly dramatic and doesn't really mind this situation.

It's also not surprising to hear that people would like to marry and settle down with a girl next door type like Bryld. You didn't receive this kind of proposals. As a matter of fact, even back in the day very little people claimed to be serious about this.

You're quite certain even Tahenohan wouldn't bring boys of any age to ask her to marry and settle down with them, especially after you told them about her wanderlust. Bryld is clearly more wife material than both you and the half-elf. Heck, even Agnes would be, and she's a quite flamboyant lesbian.

You wrap your arm around Bryld's shoulder and hug her possessively, "Hey! Bryld is mine!", you boast. Everyone takes it as a prosecution of everything that's been said to your cartographer, in good humour. She doesn't comment on the matter but is obviously comfortable enough with you by now that being hugged in public is normal.

Still, it's considerably late. You've wasted away all day in idle gossip and not much else, and judging from the impression Bryld gave you during all that time this seems to be much closer to the kind of day she's used to experiencing than it is to yours. Not that you're alien to gossiping or socializing, but you've always been amongst younger people who were busy working all day in the field or outdoors in general. Except for when you were basically just a small child, but at that point you only cared about playing.

You're almost overloaded with things to eat that people give you after a day spent socializing, there's even a whole fowl that someone hunted around here. There's plenty to be found in the vicinities but you suspect they might want to domesticate this kind since it has the potential to become quite fat and filling.

“See? People don't bite”, Bryld smiles at you, as if she had some kind of unvoiced concern about this meeting. Now she seems to be quite happy and relaxed, and not tired at all despite a whole day spent talking. A bit parched maybe, but drinkable water isn't really lacking around these parts.

Thanking everyone and with a dinner and then some available, you begin to return to Tahenohan, who should presumably be finished with teaching the youngsters, and maybe even with the cheesemaking.

Gotta have some variety in our fun!

"They like you a lot", you comment while you check what's been given to you. Onions, garlic, plenty of beans, flatbread, some more flatbread wrapped in soft, wide leaves, a fowl and some eggs... It's like they know you're a traveller and need to move around a lot and explore, and so they gave you food that doesn't perish quickly. Except for the fowl but well, you also need your meat when you can get it.

"They like all of us, you've been helpful in the past, and your friends have had very nice things to say about you", she explains, "You reap what you sow, you've been in Gaia's temple as a child, haven't you?".

Of course you have, who hasn't. That's where you got your very basic education, mostly literacy and math and of course how to take care of plants and crops. "You reap what you sow" is probably the most well-known idiom in the entirety of Nalesia, mostly because it works very well in explaining the action-reaction nature of human relationships.

"I don't know, I'm kind of disappointed", you joke, "I'd have expected they would see me as a temptress of sorts".

"They would, had you tried to seduce someone", she chuckles, "But you came accompanied by women and have been in their company almost exclusively, so everyone assumed you were like Agnes, just... More exotic".

So it's not that they didn't think you were a temptress, they just thought you only targeted women. Maybe they first thought this was your harem, too. It's too late to confirm now, of course.

“Not that I mind”, Bryld continues, “I mean- I- No! What I wanted to say was-”, she got all flustered on her own but quickly regains her composure, “I mean I don't mind the reputation you have, even if it's not perfectly spot-on”.

"What do you mean not spot-on? I am a temptress!", you protest dramatically, shocked that your abilities are not given proper recognition, "I will have you know countless people have fallen before my charms!".

She can't seem to take you seriously for some reason or another, "I have no doubts", she nonetheless answers.

"Just because I have graciously spared you from my surefire abilities does not mean you should poke fun at me. I am an unpredictable wild beast after all, and my lust knows no bounds. Especially not the gender sort, what's this thing with me and Agnes being the same?".

"I don't know, I think it's because you've been around women this whole time", she frowns, "It is kind of curious, you know?".

"It's not on purpose either", you add.

"Yes, yes I know. It's like there's a god watching over you and sending only women your way".

You can't help but laugh at that statement, both of you. That's easily the most ridiculous thing you've heard all day.

"So anyways", you continue, "What is it that you don't mind?".

"Eh?", her ears perk up instantly.

"You said you didn't mind something you didn't want me to misunderstand", you playfully poke her butt with the tip of your tail, which makes her jump and nearly drop some precious food, which is the only reason for which you stop.

"Eh? Oh n-nothing, nothing at all!", and yet she's all flustered, "B-besides, I wouldn't want to settle down with a temptress. I... I want a faithful partner... It's important to me".

You know she didn't want to be mean with that, and she realizes immediately. “Sorry, I didn't mean- I just don't want to get serious unless it's with one and only one person. I know you and Tahenohan are different, but I like that kind of stability”.

"Don't worry about it".

She looks up at you with still a line of concern over her eyes, and you give her a smile, "I said don't worry about it. Nobody's forcing you in a situation you don't want to be in. Besides, nobody talked about settling down yet, are you thinking of doing so?".

"N-no, not specifically", she admits, "I was just thinking ahead, I guess".

"If I get the urge to settle down, I would prefer to have a single partner as well", you continue, "But right now I'm travelling and most relationships I have are transient by necessity. It's easier to switch partners a lot in this situation and I just don't think much of it".

"I know, I know. I just wanted to make it clear". She hugs the basket full of food closer to her chest, "I'm sorry, it's just that sometimes between you and Tahenohan I feel kind of... Overwhelmed".

You suppress a chuckle, you'd feel overwhelmed by Tahenohan as well if you were anyone else. Her sex drive really is something when it's let loose. "I can't blame you, really. Just don't worry about it, we're friends and we'll keep being like that".

She nods, "Thank you, I'm kind of afraid to ruin this sometimes".

"Ruin this? How?".

She opens her mouth, but then decides not to speak, shuts it closed, and blushes. She exchanges several glances with you, then musters enough courage to barely say “What if I fall in love with you?”.

You're not far from the half-finished house Tahenohan was using to make cheese and judging from the lack of voices and sounds you presume she's alone by now, with the young boys being back to their homes. Bryld, however, is still fidgeting nervously, like she's regretting having said too much.

>”You mean if we have sex?”.
>”You mean you have feelings for me?”.
>”You're worrying too much”.
>”We can't know that”.
>”Only one way to find out”.

I'm sorry, MP. So many options...

"I don't want to make light of your heart, but I think you're worrying too much. No, don't sigh, look, I know it's iffy when it's coming from me but it's true that I have more experience, don't I?".

"You certainly do", she immediately agrees.

"There's never a risk-free partner and you can't expect to stay the same when being with someone, especially settling down with someone. I'm not sure what you're afraid of, whether it's that I won't love you back, that you'd be jealous of Tahenohan-".

"Not that you didn't have sex with Astreya too, and I'm sure she won't be your last", she adds. You don't quite have the time to inquire as to how she knows, she might be just guessing, but then again it was an easy guess if you consider what you're talking about and what she knows of her.

"- Ok, look, as I said, I would want one partner too if I were to settle down, but I'm not doing this because I want to destroy families. I never had sex with anyone that wasn't free", you explain, "And it's not like I only have occasional sex either, I did have relationships, and I only had one partner at those times".

She sighs, a deeper sigh, the sort she makes when she wants to drop an argument, "I'm sorry, I was being silly again. It's just that I don't want to force you to give up having other partners just because I decided I want you for me, and me alone", she chuckles lightly, "Heck I'm not even sure I do. I mean you're certainly very fascinating and... Oh look nevermind".

A few more moments pass, and she looks up at you, still fidgeting a bit but looking more confident, “No really”, she insists, “I just... I've never been in this kind of situation and I don't want to do anything that could ruin it because... I like it. I really do”.

>"Are you lovesick?".
>"Are you lustful?".
>"Are you feeling confused?".

"Do you want to talk about it?", you offer, but see that she's rather shy, still. You wish there were conveniently placed rocks at butt-level so you could comfortably sit whenever you needed to have tranquil chats about ordinary problems, but you're forced to sit on the ground, inviting her to join you by patting the lush grass, "Because I can help".

"Oh I know you can", she sighs and sits down as well, right next to you, almost in your lap but not quite. She's grabbing your arm and pressing against it, leaning her tired head on your shoulder, "It's the freedom".

"The freedom?".

"It's not like I was impeded in anything before", she begins, "But I've lived a somewhat sheltered life. I never really had to provide for myself before, so I didn't even have to put myself in... Unfamiliar situations. Much. Well I eventually did but that took quite some effort on my part".

You already know that part of the story, and she knows you do, so she skips ahead, "I've been attracted, even just physically attracted, to other people before. I never lost my virginity because I've always been shy and pulled back. I had a different approach then, I had a stable life and I expected my love life to be the same, I never quite considered being more... Free about it. Oh I knew girls that were but it didn't suit me".

"And now it does?".

She pauses, "I... I understand your points, I even appreciate them, and... But...".

"Love and lust can feel alike sometimes".

"I'm not new to lust", she cracks a half-grin, "I'm not that naive".

>"But you're new to dealing with it with someone else".
>"But you lack the experience to tell them apart".
>"But you're afraid of what will happen if you lose your inhibitions".
>"But you're not sure I'm the person you want for that".

Well I was unsure before but now she's clearly being flirty as all hell, so let's go with it.

>"But you lack the experience to tell them apart".

Also don't push the horny/3p on her just yet, she's not ready

"But you're afraid of what would happen if you were to lose your inhibitions", you complete for her. It's not a new thought you've had, but it's been dawning on you recently just how all of this novelty and the sometimes potentially lewd situations you put yourselves on are having an effect on Bryld.

Sure, she's shy and a virgin and uncomfortable but not just because she's scared. Scared might not be the word you're looking for at all.

"And, right now, you're feeling tremendously horny", you add. She jolts lightly then freezes, clutching your arm tighter. Not that the pressure of her breast isn't pleasant of course. She also brushes her legs together and you're quite sure she doesn't just need to go.

"... And you can help with that", she concludes. Her tone was strangely confident and she looks up at you still red in the face but with a look you've seen already and you probably had at some time.

It's the look of someone who's about to do something new and has all sorts of thoughts going against it but also an appallingly high amount in favour.

"I don't suppose you want to just talk about it?", you half-joke, and she cracks a smile, losing a bit of tension.

"Talking really helped", she points out, "Really Lillith, I know it would've been easy to ask you to f-have sex with me. That's not the scary part".

You're starting to think that Tahenohan was way ahead of you when she suggested that threesome and not just because she selfishly wanted to have a bout of wild sex.

Still, you know it's going to be up to you to choose how to proceed.

>”Let me help you with the other part, then”.
>”Nothing wrong with just some sex, heck what other partners will we have when we're out exploring?”.
>”If I make you uncomfortable, I'm sure Tahenohan would be glad to oblige...”.
>”You do know this won't make us a couple, right?”.
>”Actually let's join Tahenohan, I'm sure she won't mind”.
>”I don't think we should”.

"Look Bryld, I really do like you. I'm a pretty flirty person but I try not to push it too much because I could see you've not been comfortable with that. I don't wanna pressure you into things, you know?", you offer, wanting to be over a hundred percent certain that you aren't crushing her feelings for your own personal lustful gains, but there's something in her eyes that tells you things aren't how they seem.

She stares silently at you for a while, until you're forced to continue, "... That said, I really want to roll over and have my way with you right now. What do you say?".

She says nothing, just shifting awkwardly in place, still clutching your arm. It gets really awkward and you manage to become aware of how lightly the wind is moving the grass around you, all in the same direction except around you, where your bodies provide a fleshy yet excellent obstruction.

"Uhm...", she goes at some point, and you stare at her with an odd look as if to point out you're still kindly waiting for an answer.

But instead, she just looks up at you and goes, "Am I... Not right?". The question catches you by surprise, and she looks... Well, not angry, but kind of like she expected something else. "I'd figure you would be a more... Straightforward person".

"I didn't want you to-".

"Maybe I was wrong?", she makes an odd face, "Oh dear Iria we're not the same kind of person, are we?".

You're kind of confused, so she fidgets some more, but doesn't leave your arm at all, "I mean...", she continues, "... We're just leaving each other the initiative, right? Like, like we're dancing in circles waiting for the other to make a move".

She looks up at you, a tiny amount of concern which is overwhelmed by the growing relief of being able to speak up more and more freely, "Do you, uhm, not like that? Maybe Tahe, Astreya and all your previous partners were much more... Assertive, after all".

There's one thing you're sure of: she isn't wrong about the latter two.

By Ishtar's breasts look at the time!

Sorry everyone, I had to finish this scene but I also really have to go, it's late and I'm still on an empty stomach and have other things to do.

Thanks for participating, this thread was definitely quite fun for me, I hope it was the same for you. Next time I should be able to run a little more freely, so stay tuned on twitter!

She seems more immature than I'd expected. Lillith did everything but consent for her, and as much as it may not be the height of romantic that's generally a good thing to get before going hot and heavy! I mean, Lillith has made plenty of moves overall and certainly outright saying 'wanna fuck' is as much as you could possibly ask so I dunno where she's getting us leaving the initiative to her. Initiative to decide whether she wants to have sex for the first time? Fuck yeah I'm gonna leave that to her, every time.
