Welcome back to WrestleQuest! This is a SOL Quest in which you take the role of young Robin Winters, as he tries to make it big in the crazy world of pro-wrestling under the persona of The Ace.

Last thread, you gave out relationship advice, worked a tag team match, and the company's asshole champion got your friend fired. Also, your other friend is in a jail cell right now and needs you to bail him out.

>Player Question
Who's your favourite character so far? Least favourite?

>SATURDAY, MARCH 19th 2016

"Was that David? What's wrong?" Abby has a worried expression on her face as you hang up the phone. He didn't give you all the details, but it's not hard to imagine why David spent the night in the slammer. He was likely caught roughing up someone for money on behalf of his uncle.

"David's in jail, he needs me to help him out," you answer, sliding the phone into your back pocket. Abby's mouth is agape.

"What? In jail? Why?"

You remember back to when you found about about David's... day job. You asked you not to tell any of the others, to keep it a secret, but in this situation is there really much you can do to hide the truth?

>Don't tell her

"I don't know, he didn't say," you answer, running her hand through her hair. "I'm sure it's just a mistake, though. I need to pick him up."

"I can come with, if you need help paying bail..." Abby offered, but you know that bringing Abby along would lead to her finding out David's secret.

"Nah, I'll take care of this myself. Sorry, but I'll talk to you later, okay?" You kiss Abby on the forehead and say your goodbyes as you sprint for your car and drive off to where David is being held.

>CITY JAIL

"David Fisk? You a friend of his?" The fat, moustached man behind the counter flicks through a set of files. "Yeah, we caught him shaking someone down for cash in the early hours of the morning. As far as we can tell, this is his first criminal offence... as an adult, at least. A few misdemeanour's in his early teens. Let's see... here we are. Bail was set at $200."

$200 dollars? That's two shows worth of pay! It's over a third of the money you have on you right now. Do you really want to fork that much over?

>David's my friend, and I'm the only one who can help him. I'll have to pay it myself.

>David's my friend, and I'm the only one who can help him. I'll have to pay it myself.

>Funds: 90$

It's a lot of money, but you have no choice. Someone needs to bail David out, and the others can't know about this. You hand over the money and take a seat in waiting. Moments later, David is brought out, his head hung low.

The two of you step outside of the station, and pause on the steps before David finally speaks.

"...Sorry."

You turn to your friend and shake your head. "You have to stop this."

David shrugged. "I know... I don't like it either, but my wrestling paychecks alone can't pay for my place. I've tried finding other work, but no-one else will take me. The longer I stick working with my uncle, the harder it will be for me to walk away... but what am I supposed to do?"

"You need to walk away now, before it's too late."

"And then what?" David asks. "I'll be out of a home, with no other prospects. How am I supposed to make a living?"

>You can stay at my place. For a while, at least.

"Thanks, but you've already helped me out of trouble enough-"

"David, I helped you enough until you're actually out of trouble. Come on, it's no problem... as long as you don't mind sleeping on a couch. My place isn't that big, but it'll have everything you need."

David places his hands in his jacket pocket. "Okay... as long as you don't mind having a cat around."

"Speaking of, where is Cat Jenny?" you ask.

"I let human Jenny keep her for the night. Hopefully she'll return it without a fight."

You laugh. There's really no chance of that.

>LATER, AT YOUR APARTMENT

You weren't expecting on nabbing yourself a room-mate today, but after a few hours of lugging a few boxes around, David was set up in your now very, very cramped apartment.

"Sorry about this. I'll try not to make my stay here long," David answers, placing down the last cardboard box.

"Hey, don't worry about it. I asked you, remember?" you smile as you navigate your way to the couch. David managed to get the cat back earlier, and the tabby has made itself at home pretty quickly, lounging on the arm of your couch, curled into a ball.

"So now what?" David asks, seating himself down beside you. "You have any plans for the night?"

Man, David will have to talk to everyone about this sooner rather than later. You just know Orwin is going to find out sooner rather than later.

At the very least I hope he tells Jenny before the inevitable happens.

I think David should try factory or janitor work. Its unskilled labour and in theory there is less chance of history catching up. Unless we have other options.

>Call Owen

We should Owen to check up on him and maybe talk about locker room leadership/prep us for a world without him. I can also go for Tapes, I can be convinced.

Also. I thought of a possible solution for the future with Orwin.

Can you say, Lumberjack?

Also, in terms of your questions.

>Favourite
It's got to be David or Jenny. They have the most development so far. But I can't wait to peel at the proverbial onions that are Abby, Kimberly and Danny. I expect so sorrow along with some eventual happiness.

>Worst
Well for now its Angelo and the mysterious woman. Angelo we just don't know about right now. The mysterious woman I am just nervous and considering my theories, I think I have rights to be.

>Call Owen

You decide to give Owen a call, check in on him after yesterday.

"Ahoy!" you hear Owen's voice on the other end of the line.

"Hey Owen, just wanted to call up, see how you were doing after-"

"-After what happened? Don't worry about me, man. I just finished up a certain contract signing today. Can't talk about it, top secret. I've been ready to move on from TWA and the indie scene for a while now, but... I wish it was under better circumstances. I still can't believe I let Kassius get to me like that... speaking of, Adam tells me he requested a match with you on Monday?"

"Yeah, he did. You got any advice?"

"Well, something tells me Steinberg isn't going to have you go over in this one, but you can't let him make you look like a chump. You have to look good in defeat. Also, I wouldn't put it past him trying to knock you out for real, so maybe you should work on toughening up a little so you don't go down so easy."

You nod, taking in the guidance of the former TWA champion. "Got it. By the way... with you gone, the locker room is left without a proper leader, and-"

"You should do it!"

Well, you didn't expect that eager an answer. "R-really?"

"Yeah, why not? You're a pretty good guy, and someone's got to take charge. The guys need someone to look up to, and you fit the description! Anyway, I have to run. Very busy. Talk to you later, man!"

*CLICK*

David leaned back on the couch and folded his arms. "So... you wanna watch some tapes or something?"

>Sure, it would be good to study up.

You decide it's best to study and prepare as much as you can for the inevitable. Like Owen said, the odds of you going over in the match against Kassius are slim to none, but you need to bust your ass off to put on a good enough performance, preventing him from treating you like a total jobber in the ring.

David looks around the apartment, working out which cardboard box is the one containing al of your tapes. "Okay, what do you want to watch?" he asks, as he manages to rummage out the correct box.

>CHARISMA

You decide to study up on the art of charisma. Kassius is very popular with the crowd, so if you can manage to gain their support during your bout, you'll have at least one major victory over the guy, even if you aren't winning the match.

You look over a collection of promos from one of the all-time masters of trash talk, Stunning Steve Awesome. You take notes on everything. His cadence, his body language, the way he delivers his lines. Afterwards, you pop on a few of Awesome's big matches, and look at how he carries himself in the ring, how he gets the crowd on his side. You come out the other end feeling you've learned a lot.

After the study session, you clear off the couch in order to give David a place to sleep and retire to your own room for the night.
>>
>>46011979
>>46012010
Not to mention, if he knocks us out, with enough charisma we could make that look gold. I see this as us either coming out of this match as a random jobber, or as Stone Cold at Wrestlemania 13.

You need to keep working on boosting your charisma if you want the crowd on your side, but you also decide to keep on studying on the art of psychology. After all, you're going to have to have your wits about you if you want to hang with a ring general. You need to be able to show the crowd that you're not just some green rookie.

You boot up a copy of Kevin Omega's legendary match against James Daniels at Starrcade 2004. Both men, former best friends, were beacons of charisma, and with the well-publicised story of their real-life falling out shortly before the show, the match is seriously raw and emotional from the opening bell. The match in question is a masterclass in ring psychology and understanding of character. It's a damn shame the two men never worked with each-other again after this.

After taking extensive notes on the match-up, your eyes start to feel heavy, as you have no choice but to call it a night. Big show tomorrow, with the biggest match of your career so far.

>MONDAY, MARCH 21st 2016

Time for some more of the same from yesterday, as you work on improving your physical conditioning before the big fight. After a full day of training, you feel you've improved significantly upon two key areas of your physical endurance, which should come in handy tonight.

>LATER, TWA BACKSTAGE

"Are you ready for your first Main Event?" Kimberly asks you, as you pace around backstage. "God, I wish I didn't have to say it like you were going above the trenches..."

"You aren't going to win," David muttered, "that much is obvious, unless Steinberg has a bizarre last minute change of heart and puts the title on you. What's important is you look better than him, and don't let him stiff you."

Much, much easier said than done. You pushed yourself to the very limits over this weekend, though. You just have to go out there and give it the performance of your life.

"Main event time! Make me proud!" You hear Steinberg yell as he approaches the curtain. You take a deep breath, and step right through.

>THE FOLLOWING CONTEST IS THE MAIN EVENT! AND IT IS FOR THE TWA CHAMPIONSHIP! INTRODUCING FIRST, THE CHALLENGER...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bG6PPQyxyI

The crowd pops hard for your music as you step out onto the stage. You sling your kendo stick over your shoulder and throw a pointed finger into the air, in your signature pose. You have a good bit of support from the audience for your entrance.

>FROM NEW YORK CITY, WEIGHING IN A 180LBS... THE AAAAAAACE!

You roll into the ring and throw your hands in the air, garnering more cheers from the crowd.

>AND HIS OPPONENT...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JapDyUwAu8

The crowd explodes as Kassius Orwin leaps from behind the curtain, dropping to one knee on the stage, slapping his elbow with arm with a confident smirk. The TWA title is wrapped firmly around his waist.

>FROM CLEVELAND OHIO, WEIGHING IN AT 240LBS... HE IS THE TWA CHAMPION... "SUPERMAN" KASSIUS ORWIIIIIN!

Kassius slides into the ring as he removes the title, handing it to the referee. The referee holds the title in the air, as the two men take to their corners.

*DING DING*

The bell goes off, and the match is underway. Kassius is quick to psyche you out, raising his arm, threatening you with his KO Elbow, but you make sure to keep your distance and circle him until the two of you lock up.

Kassius gets the early advantage in the lock-up, pushing you into the ropes and sending you rebounding to hit you with a kick to the gut on the return. As you lean over, Kassius quickly grabs your arms in a double underhook position, planning to pull out a Tiger Suplex early on.

Kassius raises you up for the Tiger Suplex, but he's going to have to do more if he expects to pull out big moves so soon in the match, as you easily break free, falling behind Kassius and taking him down with a reverse neckbreaker. The champion falls to the mat, but is quick to rise again, though now you have a chance to go on the offensive.

You throw a kick to the left leg of Kassius, followed by another to the hip. You spin, landing a third kick into the gut of the champ, causing him to bend over. Bet he wasn't expecting you to get the advantage this early into the match, but Orwin is a tough guy. You're going to have to do a lot to put him away.

While Kassius is keeled over, you make a run for the ropes, rebounding to hit a jumping dropkick to the side of the head of the TWA Champion. The Superman of the indies falls to the mat, flat on his back. The crowd clearly didn't expect you to get the better of the champion at any point during the match, but they seem to be into it so far.

With the champion down, you decide now's the time to take to the top rope. You climb out to the ring apron and scale the turnbuckle, ready to fly. However, the champ is back on his feet much quicker than anticipated, and he leaps to the middle rope, striking you in the head with a flurry of punches, stunning you. Then, as you sit atop the turnbuckle, Kassius wraps his arms around your head, intending to take you off the top rope with a devastating superplex!

Kassius tries as hard as he can, but he can't get you off of your feet. You have far too much energy left in the tank to allow for that. You levy a punch to the ribs of Orwin, followed by another, followed by a headbutt which sends Kassius falling of the middle rope, landing on the mat, back-first. Now, you once again find yourself with a chance to take advantage, as you hang on to the top rope.

The crowd begins to chant "ACE! ACE! ACE!" as you balance yourself.

As impressive as that flying elbow drop was, you know it's just not enough to get the job done. More damage was going to have to be done for there to be a chance of Kassius staying down for the three-count. You run to the ropes, rebounding to leap into the air, landing on the champion's chest with a forward somersault senton. Kassius clutches shields his chest with his arms as he rolls around on the mat after taking the blow.

However, you can't get the hold properly locked in, as Kassius jerks his head back, headbutting you in the face. Kassius pulls you in for the DDT, but he isn't able to capitalise, as you toss the champion over your head to deliver a bridging Northern Light Suplex out of nowhere! With Orwin's shoulders pinned to the mat, the referee starts to count.

1... 2-Kickout! Unbelievable! That was barely a two-count.

You understand just how much of a tough son-of-a-bitch you have to be to become the champion. You still have your work cut out for you here.

As Kassius rises to his feet, you go for a good old-fashioned European uppercut to knock the champ back down. Kassius managed to dodge the incoming strike however, turning you around to hit you with a Full Nelson Slam, slamming your back hard into the mat.

To your surprise, and to the surprise of the champion, the crowd don't take to kindly to him regaining control. In fact, as Orwin throws a fist into the air while you lie on the mat, he actually begins to receive a few boos. Frustrated, the champ throws a few stomps to you on the ground, before picking you up for another attempt at a Tiger Suplex.

Kassius lifts you up for the Tiger Suplex once again, but this time you manage to break free with several placed knee strikes to the head, causing the champion to break his hold. You drop to you feet, and while the champion is stunned, you run to the ropes, building enough momentum to-

Suddenly, you're rocked in the face... with a strike you didn't even see coming.

KO ELBOW! OUT OF NOWHERE!

You forgot about the danger of Kassius' finishing manoeuvre, a move that can be pulled out at any time, when you least expect it.

>HP: 36/80

You feel dizzy as you flop to the mat, and Kassius makes the cover.

TWO... THR-NO WAIT! Somehow, someway, you manage to muster just enough energy to get the shoulder up!

The crowd explodes, chanting "ACE! ACE! ACE!" much to the frustration of the TWA Champion, you drags you to your feet by your mask, propping your only semi-conscious body up just long enough to wind up yet another rolling KO Elbow, aimed right for your face!

Barely managing to keep your balance, you somehow manage to duck under the elbow coming straight for your face. And somehow, you don't know, maybe just out of pure instinct you reach you hands up and go for the one move that could possibly save you in this situation. To your absolute amazement, it works.

ACE CRUSHER CONNECTS!

You barely have any energy left as you crawl over the champ for the cover.

ONE! TWO! DAMN! KASSIUS KICKS OUT JUST AFTER THE TWO COUNT!

The crowd are louder than you've ever heard them before, chanting "THIS IS AWESOME!" until their lungs give out.

You and Kassius rise to your feet at the same time, both exhausted from the exchange that just took place. You have only one option, and you go for a second Ace Crusher-but no! Kassius spins you around and hits you with another KO ELBOW!

You fall to the floor and the Champ goes for the cover.

1... 2... 3.

*DING DING*

>HERE IS YOUR WINNER... AND STILL THE TWA CHAMPION... "SUPERMAN" KASSIUS ORWIN!

Despite having his hand raised at the end of the match, Kassius is not the man the crowd are clamouring for.

"ACE! ACE! ACE! ACE!"

The chant pierces into the champions head, as he angrily tosses the title to the floor and drags you back to your feet aggressively.

KO ELBOW!

You fall to the mat, but Kassius isn't done with you, picking you back up to do it once more!

ANOTHER KO ELBOW!

Kassius grabs the title and flees the ring as the crowd reigns boos upon him. He may be walking out with the title, but you're the true champion in the fans eyes tonight.

Everything's blurry. You knew Kassius was going to be stiff with those elbows, what you never realised was just how stiff he was going to be. You barely manage to make out some of what's being said as an on-staff medical professional shines a light in your eyes.

"-----No lasting dam-------take it easy for the next week-------keep him off Friday's------"

"--------Bastard-----"

"Not my fault he--------"

You feel a hand clasp yours, as Abby's voice rings clear in your ear. "Come on Robin, let's get you home. You need some rest."

>TUESDAY, MARCH 22nd 2016

Next thing you know, you're waking up in your apartment. Your head is killing you. As you try to lift yourself up, you hear a voice call out to you.

"Don't strain yourself, man."

David is standing in the doorway of your bedroom. As you peer past him to the main apartment, you see Abby cooking breakfast.

You clutch your head. "What... what happened?"

"The champ hit you. Hard. A lot. We were worried you might have suffered a light concussion for a while. Steinberg's keeping you off Friday's show just to be sure. Possibly next Monday's, too."

"Not hard to see why," David explained. "I don't know if you remember how that much ended, but you're the most over guy in TWA right now. Steinberg's still pretty committed to his investment in Orwin, but last night gave him second thoughts on who really deserves to replace Owen at the top."

The cheers you received from that crowd was one of the few things you remember about your match last night. You'll probably remember it forever. You never knew a crowd that small, only 200 in size, could make that much noise. And it was all for you. It was a damn good feeling... until it was quickly overshadowed by the terrible feeling of getting elbowed in the skulls several times.

Abby comes into your room with a plate full of blackened meat and eggs. "H-hi... It's good to see you up. I made you breakfast, but it's a little burnt..."

It's more than a little burnt, but you could eat anything at this point. "Thanks, Abby. I'm glad you're here."

Abby nodded enthusiastically. "Yes, I'm here for you. I'm not even going to ask why David is living with you right now... or if it's got anything to do with him being in jail the other day..."

This is for David and David alone to talk about. And honestly, when we get a moment alone, we'll have to talk about it. People are going to keep asking. I bet we have a queue waiting for us right now even.
>>
>>46018631
Already answered. But I do have a question.

We know now how small our stable is in terms of crowds. Does TWA have video archives/broadcasts? I want to show Owen sooooo badly. Maybe youtube can help.
>>
>>46018631
>Make something up

Just say he did something and they let him off with a fine, but it's a bit steep and he's having trouble playing rent
>>
"David's having a little money trouble, so he's staying here until he gets back on his feet," you answer, sparing Abby of all the gory details of David's circumstances.

"Oh... is there any way I can help out?" Abby asks, passing you a knife and fork for your breakfast.

"Actually, you can." David nods his head. "Ace was supposed to help me look for a job, but right now he needs his bedrest. You can help me, if you're up for it."

Abby, eager to be useful, gives a little salute. "O-of course I can!"

"Good, let's leave Ace to his rest."

The two leave the room as you start to chow down on the crispy breakfast that lays before you. Almost choking on a slice of toast, you are startled by your phone going off from your bedside table. You check the name on the screen and see that Owen is calling.

>Answer it.
>Ignore it. I'll probably get a few phone-calls today, and I'll never rest if I answer all of them.

You press to answer the call and for a moment all you can hear is Owen laughing uproariously on the other end. "Sorry man, I just heard the news," Owen manages to get out between giggles. "Adam told me that after the match, Kassius threw a hissy fit backstage! You've got him scared!"

"Yeah, I'm pretty surprised by that myself," you reply. "I just wanted to look like I could hang in the ring with him, next thing I know the crowd are chanting my name over his... then next thing I know, I'm being knocked out."

"Yeah, that part sucks. But you know what you have to do now, right?" Owen's tone turns serious as he addresses you. "The crowd loves you, the people love you, even Steinberg's starting to love you! You have to own that, rise up, and become leader of the locker room. It's not easy work, you're going to have everyone turning to you with their problems, but I can't think of anyone better to take my place. Are you ready to accept the responsibility?"

>Yes, I am.
>No, I'm not.
>Honestly, I want out of this company.

As an aside. I don't know about you guys, but for the inevitable Orwin vs Ace fued. I think it's the time to bring out the Ace Of Spades mask. Just to point at it as a "Do you remember our first match?" *points at the ace on the forehead* "I remember..." That shit would go over with fans.

"You don't know how happy I am to hear that. TWA seriously needs someone like you right now. The company's going through some rough times, and I honestly don't know how much longer it has left. You need to keep morale up until then, and keep Kassius off everyone's backs."

You smile, feeling the full weight of your decision. "Thanks, Owen. I'm going to miss having you around backstage."

"Hey, I'm moving on! I'm not really supposed to tell anyone this, but..." his voice turns to a hushed whisper. "Be sure to watch the Monday Night Warzone after Starrcade. See ya around, buddy."

*CLICK*

Owen disconnects, but before you even have time to put the phone down, it starts ringing again. This time it's Kimberly on the other end.

"Hello?"

"Hey Ace. You... you okay?"

"Yeah, I'll be fine."

>Yeah, of course.

"And bring some Chinese food," you tell her. "My breakfast is a little more singed than I would care for."

Kimberly laughs. "Sure thing, Ace."

About a half-hour later, you hear a knock on the apartment door. You slowly shamble your way to answer it for Kimberly to step inside with a bag of takeout chinese in her hand. "Just as you asked... hey! What's with all the boxes?"

"David's staying for a while. Money problems, he and Abby are in town trying to find him a job... I'll explain later."

Kimberly hands you the Chinese food and hugs you tightly. "I was so worried about you. Danny had to stop me from trying to take Kassius' head off after what happened."

"I'll be fine, Princess. That guy isn't worth losing your job over."

"Yeah, but you are."

There is a small silence, which Kimberly breaks by clearing her throat.

"You know, it feels like a while since we last hung out, just the two of us. It's funny, go back a month and it seemed like all we had was each-other. We weren't working for TWA, we were too scared of David to talk to him, and we couldn't stand Danny. As much as I like the crew we're with now, I miss the days when it was The Ace and The Princess; partners in crime!" She spells out the words in the air with a sombre smile.

You laugh. "It's always going to be The Ace and The Princess; partners in crime. You're my best friend, nothing's going to change that."

"Nothing?"

"Nothing," you say reassuringly, but Kimberly doesn't look very reassured to hear it.

Kimberly's eyes break away from your for a moment, and she takes a deep breath inward. "This might," she says, as she pulls you in a plants a kiss on your lips.

The match, it felt like an actual match you might see.

I'm impartial. None are bad options, and the people who say Abby is yandere are silly.
>>
>>46020766
Y'know, I'm really curious whether our momentum's going to slow down while we're out. Hopefully Steinberg keeps people hyped for our return.
Also, Booker, has not Meltzer seen us wrestle yet?
>>
>>46020938
Not yet. TWA has no video-tapes, just live shows in front of a regular faithful crowd.

The company's not doing well financially.
>>
>>46020996
Booker, if you don't mind my asking, where is the next step for us? We probably won't stay in TWA for long and we won't move straight to Japan or UPW I'm sure, so is there another semi-local production for us to work at?

Also, where do these people live? To be 18 and going to bars without contention they couldn't be American, so are they European(didn't you mention being British?) or from Canada? Assuming you didn't just disregard the law because it fit better.
>>
>>46020557
>>46020766
Oh god damn it! This was inevitable but I wish it wasn't. We are breaking hearts next thread...

Great job as always Booker. This thread is definately a classic.

>Moment of the night
How can it not be the fight in its entirety? The buildup, the theme music(serriously, what a perfect Orwin scene) and the finale. I will definitely be rereading that fight. I kinda would love to see a side story of everyone else's reactions backstage. That would be a cool side story.

While I like Abby, I am more or less neutral. I think all the named ladies are solid characters that I think I like equally. Hence my sadness at what is going to he a very long week of drama I suspect.
>>
>>46021332
Some of the characters have been billed as American. My guess is we're in Canada, working for a promotion with ties to a US wrestling school.
>>
>>46021332
It could just be a bar that doesn't card.

>>46021332
>To be 18 and going to bars without contention they couldn't be American, so are they European(didn't you mention being British?) or from Canada? Assuming you didn't just disregard the law because it fit better.

Honest answer? I completely forgot the drinking age in US was so high until it was too late, and by that point I just completely disregarded it for the sake of the story. To make sense of it, please accept one of two explanations.

1) The US drinking age is 18 in the WrestleQuest universe.
2) All the underage characters have extremely well-made fake IDs.

As for the next step question, I can't tell you what it is, but I will say It's coming much sooner than you think.
>>
>>46021448
This is also acceptable explanation #3.
>>
>>46021467
>I completely forgot the drinking age in US was so high until it was too late, and by that point I just completely disregarded it for the sake of the story

This is a perfectly acceptable answer, it doesn't really impact things, I was mostly looking to get an idea of the setting.

>As for the next step question, I can't tell you what it is, but I will say It's coming much sooner than you think.

That's good, we might have lost that match, but I think it proved that we can play with the big boys, at least for now.
>>
Favourite quest at the moment. I was thinking of running something like this but I'm glad I didn't cause this woulda blown me out of the water.

Also, off topic, but I'm training to be a wrestler and I'm thinking of a name and I wanna run it past some talented creative fellows like yourselves. How does Nate 'The Natural' King sound?

Man, this match, that was my favorite part! You had it stringing along like we might pull off a surprise win over this dude, but then, BAM! you made us go out like glorious Icarus.

I was all for Abby, what with the glasses, being shy, finding the courage to go on stage, and having sky blue eyes with black hair.
