>Exposition dump.

“This is going to come straight out of left field, but...” You groan. No matter how well you word this, it's going to come off as fucking stupid.

“But what?” Yori asks, determined to know.

“But, uh...” You laugh nervously. Fuck, there are no right words to explain this.

“Go on,” Hiro says, a concerned expression on his face.

“We live in a harem anime.” Wow, saying it out loud sounds just as stupid as you thought it would be. “Our world is a harem anime.”

“Satoshi.” Hiro is almost stunned. “Are you insane?”

“Well, I'm glad you guys believed me. Good bye forever.” You turn around and walk the other way.

“Okay, wait, wait!” Patricia stops you.

Nina folds her arms, furrowing her brow. “Was that your master plan, Satoshi?”

“Hey, it's so stupid it works. Or at least, that's how things should have went.” You shrug. “I figured I shouldn't keep it a secret anymore. It's our problem now.” Everybody eyes Nina. “Oh, right. I should tell you all that Nina is the 'main girl' of our harem anime. She knew that this was an anime too.”

“Yeah,” Nina admits hesitantly. “I am." Rubbing her arm nervously, she adds, "And I think I can prove it. Satoshi, do you still have your phone?”

“I do,” you nod to her.

“Then you know what to do.” Nina smiles, blushing pink.

Looking over to the rest of the girls, you tell them, “Don't say a single world before we're done, please.” They all blink. You reach over to grab Nina's shoulders lean in to almost kiss her. You can hear shouts of protest from the girls. But as soon as you do, your phone rings at full volume. Picking up, you answer the phone. “Hello? Oh, wrong number? No, no, it's fine. Good bye.” Now, for good measure, you try a second time. The phone rings again, but you don't answer it. “Believe me?”

“Yes.” Surprisingly, Yori is the first to answer. With a smaller tone of voice, she says, “...Because that would mean you don't have to choose.”

“I still have some doubts,” nods Hiro, “but I feel better trusting Satoshi. Plus, that would explain so much about my life. And yours!”

“Also, our first meeting was not my fault.” You look over to Patricia. “And everything that happened with us, for that matter.”

Patricia relents. “Okay, fine, fine. I guess I can believe it.”

You look over to the class rep. “Shina?”

Shina crosses her arms. “Well, I suppose that would make the confession thing a little less ridiculous...”

“So, what's the problem?” Yuko asks. “Sounds like a dream come true.”

“The problem is, if any of you ever get together with me, that's it. The anime ends, our world disappears and the show is over. We have a chance at spinoffs and sequels, but there is never any guarantee.”

“So, do we twiddle our thumbs and pretend the confessions never happened?” asks Patricia. “Or what?”

“Well, I don't think we need to change anything.” Your smile falters. “I enjoy our daily lives together. But...” There's been something on your mind. Ever since you figured out that you were the protagonist.

>Say it.

“I don't know if most of you like me for certain.” You finally get the words off your chest.

“But we–”

“I mean, what I'm saying is that we're in a harem anime. Naturally, the girls fall in love with the protagonist, right?” Hanging your head, you say, “I'm not trying to be facetious but, how could any of you not like me? We're in a harem show. Is that kind of love really genuine?” You stare at all the girls. “I mean, I'm okay with being the harem protagonist, but it's because I don't really have a choice. But... are the rest of you okay with that? Knowing that the love you feel for me might not be real?”

The girls all grow quiet.

“I don't expect you all to answer right away. I honestly don't even expect any of you to ever answer at all.” You look over to all of them warmly. “But, that's fine by me.”

Shina is the first to speak up. She clutches her bag tightly by its strap but keeps herself composed. “Are you saying that we didn't really have a choice but to like you?”

“I don't know, but... it's a possibility.” You offer her your honest thoughts.

“This has been a lot to take in,” Patricia mumbles. “Could you... give us some time?”

“I'll give you all the time you need.” You smile. “Because I'm the protagonist.”

“Well, I'm in!” Yuko quips, looking extremely satisfied with herself.

You squint at her. “Are you sure you don't want to think over it a little more?”

“Nah.” Yuko puts her hands in her pockets, shrugging. “If I like you, then I like you. Doesn't really need more thought than that.”

"Alright. If you say so, Yuko."

You look over to NIna. She stares back at you, smiling. That's enough of a response for you.

Yori looks confused and worried. You should give her some more time as well.

Just then, Hiro snaps his fingers. “Oh. I'm the best friend of the protagonist.”

“...Is it even okay for the best friend to be even denser than the harem lead?” You shake your head. “Anyway. Everyone, please think about it.”

“Well, alright then. I'm going home. I'll see you all tomorrow.” You wave to everyone and head straight back to your home. Better leave before you confuse them all too much.

“Yo, Satoshi.” Hiro joins you on the way. “I'm headed home too.”

"Ah, wait!" Yori comes along as well, lagging behind. Both you and Hiro have to stop for her to catch up.

“So, what do you think, Yori?” Hiro asks obliviously. “What are you gonna do?”

“Hiro, come on, give her some time,” you scold your friend. “Don't rush things.”

“No, it's fine.” Yori smiles with resolve. “I've decided. I've liked you for a long time and I don't think that'll change anytime soon. And, even if it means you never choose me, I'll be happy staying by your side.”

You offer her a smile. “Yori, I'm just glad that it didn't make you worry so much.”

"I don't think worrying about it will do my any good." She brings her hand close to yours. Blushing, Yori murmurs, "Besides, this much is enough."

Hiro gives the two of you a smug-ass smile. “Should I leave you two alone?” Yori, red-faced, shakes her head furiously.

“Please, Hiro.” You laugh wholeheartedly.

When you get back home, your mom is cooking dinner. You can smell the aroma of spiced potatoes coming from the kitchen. It feels like you haven't seen your mom in forever. You give her a weary smile. “Hey Mom. I'm home.”

“Welcome home, Satoshi.” Your mom says, preparing a few vegetables for some stew. She glances briefly at you before saying, “Long day?”

You chuckle. “Believe me, you have no idea.”

You wake up the next morning feeling completely terrible. Despite being the protagonist, you are still godawful at handling the morning. You give up making lunch and instead opt to buy some bread during break. You take a shower, dress yourself, and prepare to walk to school with Hiro and Yori.

“Morning.” You call out to both of them.

“Morning!” Hiro says, yawning.

“Good morning, Satoshi.” Yori smiles over to you.

“It feels like nothing has changed.” You grin. “Not that it's a bad thing.”

“I'd say the only thing that changed is you, Satoshi.” Hiro snickers. “Not that it's a bad thing.”

“Funny,” you scoff. The three of you make it on time to school, just barely beating the tardy bell. You have some time before classes start, but you resign yourself to education and slink over to your desk.

Nina's the first to join you at your desk. “Hi, Satoshi.”

You smile tiredly. “Hey, Nina.”

“Didn't get enough sleep? Was I on your mind?” She giggles.

“Don't get too full of yourself,” you say, nudging her. “I was thinking about yesterday.”

“Yeah?" Nina sways her body back and forth idly. "So, what are you going to do now?”

Thinking long and hard, you finally say, “I'm going to buy some bread during break.”

“You know what I mean!” Nina huffs.

“I know exactly what you mean. And to respond,” you hold your head up high, “I'm going to buy some bread during break.”

“What happened to all your plans?” She pats you on the cheek.

“Please.” You smack away her hand. “I've decided that, as the main character, plans are lame and I'm doing everything by what my heart tells me from now on. Plans won't blow up in my face if I don't have any.”

“You're hopeless.” Nina brushes aside a stray lock of hair, expectantly waiting for you to say something.

“What do you want,” you groan.

Nina coyly places a finger to her lips. “Aren't you going to ask me?”

With a smirk, you reply. “Nope.”

“Then...” She places her hand over yours. “I'm guessing you already know.”

“I saw the look you threw my way yesterday.” You smile. “Plus, how else would the main girl respond?”

The class starts as the second bell rings. You see Shina and Patricia come in talking together. They wave to you, but you can't really speak to them until break. So you just wave back. Taking out your notebook, you prepare to actually pay attention. You flip open to a page – it's covered in various shape doodles. You quickly flip until you reach a blank page.

Twenty minutes into the class, you give up and take a nap. Ah well. You tried. You wake when the bell rings, signaling break. Feeling much more rested, you go ahead and walk to the cafeteria. Patricia blocks your way.
>>
“Hey, Satoshi!” She eagerly calls you. “I've decided. I like you! It doesn't matter to me what the minor details are. I know I like you.”

“That's great.” You cough. “But, you know that the whole class could hear you, right?”

“Oh. Um.” In a much smaller voice, Patricia continues. “It's true though.” The entire class starts staring at her, so you just usher her outside before she dies of embarrassment.

Shina joins the two of you outside, shaking her head at the blonde. “You know, you should really use your indoor voice.”

“I really should have,” sulks Patricia, covering her face with her hands.

“But while we're still on the subject of that...” Turning her attention towards you, Shina smooths down her shirt and straightens out her hair. Clearing her throat, she says, “Satoshi. I like you.”

>everyone else was seemingly too busy being in love with Hiro
Satoshi was egging them on for that, though, at least for Shina and Yuko.

Yori's a different case because that's entirely the fault of Satoshi's and Hiro's denseness and not hers.
>>
>>45997552
I like Yori, she definitely has the most development with satisfied, even though we don't see it, so her feelings are probably the most uninfluenced by the harem aura also because I have a thing for childhood friends and shy girlsand Asians from my rl childhood friend who I had a crush on she liked me back, I think, but I was too much of a shy idiot to do anything about it, and we drifted apart, I still love her, but I am pretty sure she doesn't like me anymore, I have never been able to like another girl in the 6 years since she left, and I have lost pretty much all my motivation on everything I hope you liked my life story anon.

>Embarrass her. Kiss on the forehead.
>”Join the club.”

First, you glance around to make sure that there are no witnesses to your crime. Then, when the coast is clear, you plant your lips on her forehead and give her a quick peck. Then, in a low voice, you utter, “Join the club.”

“Eh?” Shina short-circuits, putting both hands to her forehead. “Wait, what!?”

You snicker to yourself. “I thought it'd be fun to watch you get flustered like that.”

“W-Wow.” Patricia stares, almost in awe.

“Want one too?” You tease the blonde.

“I'm still too embarrassed from what happened inside the classroom. I think I'm going to have a heart attack.”

Nina pops in from the classroom. “I'd like one on the cheek, if that's okay.”

“And while you're at it,” Hiro joins in, “I'd like some canned coffee.”

“What do you take me for, a vending machine?” You're not going to give anything to anyone anymore.

"Yes?" Hiro says hopefully.

Yuko comes walking along as well. It's the harem effect. Whenever some girls are in close proximity, the rest are sure to follow. “I heard we were playing the confession game again! Yo, Satoshi, I like you.”

“That's nice,” you reply brusquely. You're still weak to Yuko.

And the final girl, Yori, comes in to complete the harem box set. You smile affectionately towards her. “Hi, Yori.”

“Hi, Satoshi,” she says, returning your smile.

“And that's everyone!” Yuko claps. “We got everyone on-board!”

Patricia blinks. “What about Yori?”

“What about her?” Yuko tilts her head. “It's written on her face that she confessed.” Yori doesn't deny this and fidgets, looking down in embarrassment. Yuko nods. “See?”

“Okay. So what happens after?” Shina looks towards you.

You shrug. “I didn't plan this far.”

“Make a harem?” Yuko offers. Everybody stares at her, dumbfounded.

Man my story.

Grew in elementary and high school a super loser.
High school I've started working out and genetics granted me a godly booty. Start reading self help books on being social and stuff.
End up having more friends than I used to, but too self hating to think people would like the "real" me.
End up getting out of high school without a gf.
Turns out multiple of my female friends really wanted to get with me, but I kept not noticing because couldn't think anyone would want to get with me.

I mean I literally went out one on one with girls thinking it was just friend stuff because why else would they be complaining about guys or other things.

Similar stuff occurs in college, until one female friend confesses to me after we get back from a party. In confusion I ask other female friends about what to do. Find out about 4 of them liking me before and that other girl is p cool.

I'm with that girl now, and things are tight... but denseness. Not even once.

(Got with one girl at a nerd summercamp, but figured it was only because they would not know the real me. I was fucking retarded)

You will never know true denseness as I did somehow.

Well if we're doing life stories about missed connections.

When I was in pre-school I was best friends with an asian girl in my class. We did everything together. But eventually her family moved away at the end of the year and I suddenly I never saw her again. I'd say I loved her, but I was 5 years old at the time. Looking back, that event heavily influenced me because it taught me that all friendships are temporary at best. Decided to never let a friend close enough that their absence would hurt me again. Spend the rest of my life keeping people at arms length and cutting off people who try to get to close.
>>

>>45999806
The difference between an anticlimactic ending being funny or retarded is a thin line that Nano unfortunately crossed.
>>
>>45999812
That's the only thing that gets me. Not the length of the quest, not the resolution itself : how we got there.

Those last few updates were hollow. Nano steamrolled the quest to an ending. It's his prerogative, sure, but I don't have to like it.
>>
>>45999790
But it was clearly a more effective literary technique because you're affected by it much moreso than if he simply went to sleep

Just because it was effective doesn't make it less of a dick move though. And now I know not to put trust in Nano ever again.

I image Nano is pissing themselves right now at the salt they so easily pulled from people

The one negative is of course that he was railroading hard near the end, whereas it would have been sweeter for people to walk into it, like the last choice was done.
>>

>>
>>45999858
Eh, he dropped his last quest due to studies. His break's probably over and he wanted to just end it ASAP. Sucks but at least it got out there, the alternative is him just not making another thread.
>>
>>45999911
Eh. Fair enough. Another downside for Nano is now people have lost a lot of trust in him as a QM.
>>
>>45999896
Surely you can trust them to provide exactly what the Quest title entails, if the title were 'Heartfelt love between two teenagers', according to his previous quests, this quest specifically, Nano would deliver exactly that
>>
>>45999858
The last two threads have had near zero meaningful input allowed. I tolerated it because it kind of played into the story meta, but it's pretty apparent it was just a railroad to this ending. Congrats to Nano for being 'clever', I guess.

>>

>>
>>46000140
Where was the mecha write-in? And part of the reason I am so salty is that I couldn't tell if he was actually going to go through with the quest title.
>>
>>46000145
Not him, but why do you have a problem with railroading? Like we have to absolutely have freedom in all things. That's boring. I thought the lead up was nice.
>>
>>46000162
Only if it involves Mecha. And Satoshi being a smartass about every bad decision we make.
>>
>>46000140
The only options that got a majority vote were all the same damn thing. There was no opportunity to pick anything meaningfully different than what happened. That's the very definition of railroad.
>>
>>46000193
Not the type of railroading that he was doing in the last couple of threads, no. Soft railroading is fine, but he went a bit too hard.
>>
These anon reactions remind of planefag a bit.
Naturally, that's a good thing. Nice job Nano.
>>
>>46000185
for the last 8 or so choices, there have been anons pushing to start a genre shift and extend the story.

Granted, some of them were using the given choices to do so, but the concept of "cause a genre shift" was there and something that Satoshi could consciously attempt.

>>46000228
you're saying that the option that was VOTED for, by PLAYERS....was a railroad done by the QM.
>>
>>46000193
Railroading is fine when there's a plot payoff after that would have been difficult to get to without guidance. This was just a 'Fuck you, look at my clever joke'
>>
>>46000248
How was it hard to you?
>>46000260
How is it anywhere near that?
>>
>>46000258
When the QM only offers one option stated 4 different ways, yeah. That's a fucking railroad ya dingus.
>>
>>46000249
But planefag is a good QM though. And there isn't enough salt or reaction pics for it to be even close to planefag.
>>
>>46000277
Near what?
>>
>>46000221
>And Satoshi being a smartass about every bad decision we make
That would be pretty neat idea for him (or a new protagonist) being in a visual novel and being able to comment on the choices before and after the choices show up. Time in the world could even stop at each one so he could freely break the fourth wall towards the player (tg).
>>
>>46000277
Basically it was hard railroading because the QM only offered 4 or so options that were the exact same. Or were worded differently and offerend the same result.

This railroading that you speak of is completely justified since the setting is a harem anime.

Where things happen to protagonists and their best friends. That are out of their control.

Removing control (having less meaningful choices than some amount overall or having a lot less situations with more potential for variety of choices) from the quest is called railroading, yet only in the last thread write-ins were disabled.

But you are most likely too shitter shattered to see reason in my argument.

:^)
>>
>>46000315
Plus it'd be in character to either be a smartass or hate the audience and Director.
>>
>>46000328
Yeah, I was somewhat okay with it because it made sense for the meta-story. But Nano just used it to make a shitty joke. That's retarded.
>>
>>46000311
Near it being a bad joke. Just having trouble understanding. Did you expect this quest to last for terribly long honestly? I thought this was more of a one-shot than anything else.
>>46000322
I mean, the end was in sight ever since the YOU'RE THE PROTAG NOW ANON. All good things must end.
>>
The joke for this story was that it was actually a short series/OVA the entire time. It was easy to pick on that when the story suddenly did Valentines day on the second thread. Hell Satoshi comments on this himself in the second thread.

How did you think the story was going to continue? The main conflict was resolved, most of the cliche episodes were done with. What else were you expecting? Satoshi picking a girl?
>>
>>46000328
I see the reason in your argument. But I would like to counter it with the fact that Satoshi knew that he was in the Harem Anime Genre and knew that things would be out of his control at times. The problem I have with all the railroading is that it goes against Satoshi's nature to not try and fight against it that make me anus annoyed.
>>
I am affronted by this sheer railroading and will never read another quest by this dastardly Nano again. Now, excuse me while I read this latest popular and obviously superior quest, "You Won't Like How This Quest Ends," by Nona. Now, here's a questmaster who knows how to treat their audience!

Anagram, backwards, it's all the same when you are both retarded and sleepy.
>>
>>46000674
It's not like people are going to angrily boycott Nano. They'll just see his name at the top, remember the dumb shit that happened before, and keep scrolling.

It's not hatred, it's indifference.
>>
>>46000623
Another could, but you'd be press in trying to make the quest feel similar to the original. I could make a spin-off of SMT London and get the QM's permission to do so, but if I fuck up the the characters a bit by accident, I'll get a lot of flack for it by the audience.
>>
Someone make a crappy sequel.
>>
>>46000730
>he even thinks Nano would keep the name when people already know he trolls
The salt has reached such a high concentration it's causing neural misfires, holy shit.
>>
>>46000766

Nobody cares enough to.
>>
>>46000784
He would probably pull a SOMNIUS in all likelihood

I'm just disappointed we didn't get the mecha episode
>>
>>46000784
Not hard to figure out when it takes the QM an hour to write an update.
>>

Anticlimactic Endings Season 2 when?

>>46000730
While I do dislike the railroading, I did enjoy the ride. Even roller coasters do tend to ride on rails after all.
I can even forgive the ending because there's literally nowhere else to go after Satoshi takes the harem. What's he gonna do, continue to run away from all the girls for another 20 episodes/threads?
Besides, I bet Nano has a ton of IRL shit he has to attend to rather than run this quest indefinitely.
>>
>>46000834
THAT is the only thing I'm salty about. But remember Nano's notes: FUCK THE READERS.

This was all planned.

Wait, what about the Space Opera and the Mecha Episode?

Good Ending

Thanks for Running

It was a wild ride
>>
>>46000965
Refer to bullet points one and seven.
>>
>>46000924
I was robbed not only of my mechas and space opera, but of my concert about friendship or something also?

No questions, Nano go die in a tub of glue-sticks.

>>

Damn hes good at riling us up
>>
quick, while everyone is salty over this, pursue your agendas in other quests before they can get themselves to give a fuck!
>>
>>46000997
Wasn't the concert of friends the last thing that happened?

>>46000996
Space Opera happens after Fuck the readers again though.
>>
>>46000997
>>46000924
Think that supposed to be concept

And we got from hiro and yori speech about bf and relying on other people right?
>>
>>46001009
The anime is the quest though. So season 2 quest is a go?
>>
>>46001041
I want Eail to come back. Guy has been gone for a long time.
>>
>>46001098
Yeah, I want some more Bruce to be honest. Or some Zev, Either would be good.

He's the trolling QM /tg/ deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hate him, because he can take it. Because he's no longer running this quest. He's bestgirl QM. An anticlimactic writer. A Nano Litre.
>>
I've never had a quest make me go through such a wide range of emotions. God bless Nano.
>>
>>46001187
No, planefag is both the trolling QM we deserve and need right now. Nano just sucks.
>>
>>46001126
I want more Zev or my favorite drunk lizard. I also want Lotus Eater to come back.
>>
>>46001219
If you think planefag wouldn't take the opportunity to troll people like this you don't know planefag.
>>
And so ends our quest. Fuck man. It's tougher to let go of it than I thought. A good end in most remarks(by Harem anime standards), I guess.
>>
>>46001260
I would have at least liked to get Hiro hooked up with someone.
>>
>>46001257
I know he would troll people like this. But he writes it so well that it is hard to get mad at him. Not to mention he would make it funny. I am also getting really tired of street sign captcha
>>
>>46001289
That was the problem with the first place!
>>
>>46001323
When we thought he was the protagonist sure.
>>
Now what? I don't know what to do anymore. I need my daily dose of bait and waifu shadowrunning.
>>
>>46001436
You could always kill yourself. Just kidding dog. You could check out MK quest on the weekends. It's criminal how few people participate in it.
>>
>>46001463
Not same anon but what's MK Quest?
>>
>>46001495
Mortal Kombat quest. It's been running for a while and has around 50 threads I think.

Stumbled upon this about a week ago, figured this would probably relevant to those who just finished this.

This is how it ends. I'm sorry, anon, but I do not regret a single thing that I did. I knew that you would hate me for this, but I still did it anyway.

The final thing to do now is to let go. I hope you can all look back at this and remember the suffering you went through fondly.

Deity Quest when

GG by the way
