>You are Princess Zelda, heir to the fallen throne of Hyrule

>Your father, corrupted by Power, died in a coup, your Kingdom shattered in a civil war 10 years ago, the Hero in Green giving his life to ensure you escaped the conflict

>An uneasy peace has returned to the land, but omens of a descent into greater chaos than before loom on the horizon

>You, Zelda Hyrule, have the potential to claim your birthright and restore the Kingdom to what it once was, bring back true peace to the lands. Your path ahead is not set in stone; you must chisel it in yourself. What kind of Legend will you create?

You step out of the stairway in the Temple's basement, greeted by the two pleasantly surprised women, the same two that guided you to the entrance. "Miss Termina, thank goodness you are safe. We heard the sounds of a scuffle from up here-"

"And the explosion." the other mentions worriedly.

"...yes, and the explosion. When it all went quiet, we feared something happened to you." she finishes.

Ah. That... could give a certain impression, yes. "I assure you, I am fine. I have vanquished the monsters that have appeared and quelled the Phantom." you explain. "Is Sister Grunhilde available at the moment?"

"Yes, Miss Termina, right this way." they respond, bringing you back to the main hall. You immediately spot Grunhilde talking with a tall figure...

Wait.

"Madas?!"

He spins around as he hears your voice, an awkward look on his face. "Y... Termina?! Haha, so this is where you ended up! Hah." You notice how... awkward his laugh is, as he clearly tries to force a smile.

As a hundred questions form in your head, you think up a near-equal amount of answers for them. You simply nod to the man, noticing now he has a sword and crossbow with him, and address the woman in white and blue. "I have successfully dealt with the issues you were having with the Phantom and the monsters downstairs, Sister Grunhilde. However there is something troubling you should know about..."

"Troubling how?" she asks in a worried tone.

You reveal to her the [Mask of Truth]. "This was embedded in a Skulltula. The Great Fairy mentioned that whoever is sending you these may be doing so with less than noble intentions, as a dark power surrounds them. She does not know who is doing this, unfortunately. Still, this kind of thing is probably what has been attracting the monsters and Phantom."

Her eyes widen as she sees the mask. "...I see. Thank you, Miss Termina. We will have to be more diligent in the future. But that you have done all of this so quickly, you are truly blessed by Her Grace. You may keep that mask, and please, take a further monetary reward for your work."

"A small sum will do, nothing more." you tell her with a humbled bow. "I thank you for the offer, though."

"You are too kind, Miss Termina." she says with a smile, motioning for one of the other women to present you with something. An, nice! A red Rupee!

[Rupees: 62]

"Hyrule needs more people like you." Grunhilde remarks softly. "May Her Grace continue to watch over you, Miss Termina."

"I shall be on my way, then." You start to walk out, Madas quickly following behind you.

"Only 20? She was offering me 50 Rupees, P- ...Termina. Are you sure you-"

"I got what I needed, Madas. It was nice of her to offer, but I will do fine with this much." you answer. You exit the Temple and look around, spotting another group of people headed towards Hyrule Castle. You take a moment to look at it in the distance. You... will have to come back there some day. But probably not today.

Taking out your map, you look over it again. Still a lot of places to head to, plus you've heard those rumors...

You start on your way out of Castle Town, heading South while the sun's still in the sky. Carefully moving past the inhabitants and to the Castle Town Gate, you notice some guards successfully fending off a Moblin. Strange that it came so close to Castle Town, but at least they were able to handle it. You continue southwards, headed in the direction of Lon Lon Ranch again, taking a brief stop by a small hill to look over the best path to take.

Out of the corner of your eye you spot something in the grass ahead, moving. You get a glimpse of a... yellow creature, at least that's what you think it is. Wait a second... okay that thing thinks it wants to play a game, does it?

You put on your mask and start chasing after it. The creature's crafty, darting in and out of the grass, at times vanishing from sight only to reappear somewhere else. But you don't lose track of it. It chuckles softly every time you get close. It's... leading you somewhere. But it's not going to let you catch it, not without you outfoxing it first. Heh.

Noticing it keeps to the grass, you decide to start limiting where it'll be able to go, slashing at some of the grass ahead and chopping it down with the Sword Beam. You then start running in a more circular path, to try and limit its movements more. It takes some time, but you do eventually cut down enough that you can corner it. As it vanishes again, you spin yourself around and cut off the final circular patch of grass... which then starts spinning around, blades of cut grass almost dancing, when he appears again...

You step forward, approaching the creature. "I've gotten Zas to aid me, and am headed southwards to see who this Gerudo girl is, yes. Though this strikes my curiosity, why do you mention that to me?"

The Keaton lets out that same soft chuckle. "A simple reason. The more people you have ready and prepared for the coming darkness, the better you will do facing it. You are not an army of one, child. You need allies if you want to succeed."

...you can read between the lines here. "And so you appear to me again, Keaton. Tell me, are you offering direct assistance?"

It puts its paw to its face. "Hee-hee-ho! Good, good. Your wits are still sharp. I am, but first you must learn the proper call."

"'Call?' What do you mean by that?" Curious.

You can tell it's grinning at you as it steps forward. "Something you have already will give you the answer to that."

Ah, of course! You reach around to pull out your harp. "I believe this is what you're talking about?"

The Keaton nods. "Ah, but the song itself is quite a tale... perhaps you know it already?" it questions softly.

You observe the Keaton quietly. Tale... oh. Duh. Well, not tricking Princess Zelda with that one, fox! You watch as the Keaton raises and lowers its tails, recalling what lessons Impa gave you on playing a harp and trying to match the movement of the tails to strums on it.

You pull it off without a hitch. You learned the [Call of Keaton]!

"Hee-hee-ho! Good, child, good." It walks towards you, apparently... growing in size as it does. It's taller than most horses by the time it's next to you, then lays down, head turning to you. "Climb on, and we shall reach your destination before nightfall."

You can't help but grin. You hop on the Keaton's back. "Of course, Keaton! Let's be off!"

"Hee-hee-ho! You might want to hold on tight..." it warns, standing. You do as it asks... but even with the warning you're barely able to hold on.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKMf5CQmzvs

You and the Keaton bolt through Hyrule Field like lightning, rushing past hills and trees, the grass below you almost parting in reverence as the Keaton runs through it. Goddesses, the wind in your hair, the colors, sights, and sounds as you pass by them, the sheer speed you're moving at, it's all making your heart race from the thrill. This is...

This is just about the coolest thing you've ever done.

In what seems like minutes, you've gone from near Lon Lon Ranch down to a forested area, the Keaton dashing and darting through the trees with peerless grace. If anything, it almost seems even more coordinated in the forest, and as you exit it you see a settlement ahead. The Keaton stops itself so suddenly you almost think you'll be thrown off the creature.

"Here you are. Ordon Town." the Keaton tells you, lowering itself. You step off, a little dazed by the shift in speed, running your fingers through your hair to make sure you still look presentable.

"You will not be coming with me, Keaton?" you question as you step towards the town.

"Not like this. We Keaton only appear to those we wish to see us." it answers. Curious. "That said..." Its size suddenly dramatically decreases, appearing... almost like a baby fox.

It's... it's adorable.

The Keaton then somehow hops inside your mask, vanishing into it. "I shall accompany you from now on, Princess." it tells you... through the mask, somehow.

Before you enter, you slash at some nearby grass, and... oh nice! Five Blue Rupees, and a couple Greens!

[Rupees: 89]

With the extra cash in your Wallet, you finally head into town.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTVKu6KyGHU

It's not a terribly small place, but just small enough that it all seems rather cozy. You make your way through, the warm sun overhead telling you it's barely past noon. You look around at the rather happy people going about their daily business. A river cuts through the town, watermill near it, some kids splashing water at each other by the shore. You almost stumble into a small herd of goats passing by, one bleating at you in annoyance. You ask around, trying to find if anyone knows of a Gerudo girl that's been through recently. Eventually you're pointed in the direction of the town's bar.

Stepping inside, you see the rather lively spirits all around... and the smell of liquor. Lots of it. A bunch of people seem gathered around a table, cheering and shouting. As you approach, you see two people arm wrestling, a large man and someone in armor.

Iron Knuckle armor.

Very tiny Iron Knuckle armor.

"Y-YYGG... YOUR... WINNING STREAK... ENDS HERE... BRAAAAAARGH!"

The large man fails, his hand almost leaving a dent in the table. He sulks away as a young girl's voice comes from the armor, "That's twenty! Hah, come on, I can do this all day, folks!"

Looks like you've found the girl.

She adjusts her helmet, looking around for another challenger. None seem to take her on it, and it looks like the competition is over. People place Rupees down for her, the girl in armor collecting them all with a laugh. "Better luck next time, boys!"

"Twenty, huh? My aunt got up to thirty one time." you tell the girl, taking a seat at her table. "Barkeep, two Reds, single Star. Extra cherries."

"Good taste." the girl tells you, leaning back in her chair. "And who might you be?"

"Termina." you state with a little bow of your head. "A bit new to these parts. I've only recently arrived today."

"Alone, huh? Must have gotten lucky traveling through Faron Woods... or you're someone who can handle herself in battle." She comments, looking you over. "My guess is the second. You barely even have a spec of dust on your outfit. Decently skilled, at the very least."

"My aunt has trained me well, Miss...?"

"Call me Aveli." she tells you with a laugh. As the two red drinks arrive at your table, the surprisingly strong aroma of sweet cherries coming from them, the girl removes her helmet. You'd have to admit, you are a bit surprised by her looks. Hair almost as blonde as your own, eyes green as Rupees, though her tanned skin is clearly a Gerudo's. "I take it you're here for business."

We're gonna need a cover-story anyway, might as well brainstorm one now!

You take a sip of the red drink. Ahh, nice, refreshing, cherry health potion. "Curious as to why a Gerudo so young has traveled so far, first of all."

She raises an eyebrow. "You don't look that old yourself, you know. But if you must, I'm just putting in a little extra work on the side for my training."

"Training?" you repeat curiously.

A bit of a smug grin appears on her face. "This armor's not just for show, missy. Like my mother and grandmother, I'm set to become one of the Gerudo Elite, an Iron Knuckle. Making a little extra money on the side playing mercenary doesn't hurt, either." She takes a sip of her own drink, eyes widening in childish glee as she quickly downs the whole thing, wiping her mouth and letting out a satisfied "Pffaahh... Anyway, where you from, exactly?"

"Lived outside Kakoriko most of my life." you tell her in a way that's technically correct.

She looks at you suspiciously. "And now you're all the way down here, huh? What exactly are you here for, Termina? More to the point, you've clearly sought me out in this endeavor. Why?"

>A. I seek the Great Fairy in this area, and was looking to see if I could get some extra help along the way
>B. Your reputation precedes you, Aveli, talk of you has already reached Castle Town by this point, and I could use someone with your kinds of skills
>C. Something else?

You smile kindly at her. "Your reputation precedes you, Aveli, talk of you has already reached Castle Town by this point, and I could use someone with your kinds of skills."

"Castle town already, huh?" Her grin only grows wider. "Well, Termina, 50 Rupees a day, normal fee. I'll give you a discount, five off."

A... bit steep, but you can manage it. "De-"

"Now just wait a moment, Termina." she stops you, raising her gauntleted hand. "I'd like to know just what kind of business you're trying to rope me into."

No point in hiding it. "I seek the Great Fairy of this area, and was looking to see if I could get some extra help along the way. I've seen a pattern of trouble come to the last two Great Fairies I've visited, and feel I should prepare myself for it ahead of time."

"Previous two, huh? Ooooh, so you're on some sort of quest, I take it?" The grin on her face becomes just a bit more devious, and you're not sure you like that. "Forty Rupees, to start."

>A. Deal!

You get an idea. "How about this: any Rupees we find, we split 50/50, part of that going to your fare, while I pay half of what you're asking up front. Does this sound fair?"

"Hahaha! Someone's quite the businesswoman. You have yourself a deal, Termina." She stands and approaches to shake your hand. You stand as well, noticeably taller than the young Gerudo, the girl barely even up to your chest.

"A deal it is, then." you tell the girl with a nod, shaking her hand firmly. You put down 30 Rupees to pay for the drinks, and hand a further 20 over to Aveli as your advance payment. Next up, you ask the barkeep if he could point you in the direction of the Great Fairy's Fountain. He informs you that it's actually quite a walk from the town, in the Temple dedicated to Farore in Faron Woods.

The girl puts her helmet on as you both exit, bringing a large axe almost as big as her with, walking down the main street of the town. You turn to the Gerudo girl as you both walk. "I'm a bit curious, why'd you lower your initial price?"

"Call it intuition." she responds. "Sticking with you is going to be a lot of fun."

Almost the second you both step out of the town, a howling sound can be heard in the distance, a figure moving through the trees. You've seen a creature like that before.

Wolfos.

"Another one of those things?" Aveli questions. "Huh. Want me to take care of it?"

"No need." you tell her in a determined tone, getting your crossbow. "I can handle this one." You wait a moment for the Wolfos to close in on you, the footsteps getting louder and louder. Once it's in visible range, the monster bares its fangs at you, attempting to stand. You quickly shoot it in the gut with a crossbow bolt, the Wolfos falling back in pain. You then run up and jump, sword in hand, and stab down hard, plunging your blade into the monster's chest deep.

You backflip away from it as the monster tries to swipe at you in its death throes, finally fading, crumbling, and turning into a blackened mist. To your surprise, it leaves behind a Red Rupee!

You quickly toss two blues over to Aveli as you stuff the Rupee into your wallet, the girl letting out a soft whistle, impressed. "You're not half-bad after all, Termina. Looks like I made the right choice."

You return your sword to its sheath and turn back to Aveli. "We should get moving, might be more of those things around waiting for sitting targets. Better not take any unnecessary risks."

She shrugs and starts walking. "Well, you're the boss lady. Took out a couple of those on my way here. Go down pretty easy if you can get 'em in the spine." she states as she makes a swinging motion with her free hand.

You look at the girl in armor curiously. "How long have you been doing this, if you don't mind me asking?"

"Couple years now, mostly back home in the desert, protecting caravans and such. Mom told me to 'expand my horizons' a bit as I continued my training. Can only practice against so many threats in a desert environment, never know what might come our way again, after the war." she explains.

Two years? "Wait... how old are you, exactly?"

"Turned thirteen three months ago." Aveli says with a laugh. "Most people still underestimate me based on my age." She turns to you and you can tell she's smiling under her helmet. "At first."

As you finally reach the forested Temple of Farore, the goddess's symbol clearly visible in the entrance, there's a low rumble that can be heard in the distance. Coming from inside the Temple. Well that's inviting.

"Sounds like something's waiting for you in there." the Gerudo girl states, grip on her axe tightening. "Wonder how resilient it is..."

Before you enter you notice a soft light out of the corner of your eye. Something just made a little jingling sound as well. If you were a betting girl...

"Aveli, wait a moment." you tell her. Reaching your hand out in the direction of the light, you focus on trying to draw the fairy out. It takes a moment... but then you realize it's not one, but two of them.

The fairies almost jolt towards you, slowing when they see your companion. They look at each other for an awkwardly longer time than you were expecting, then finally one addresses you. "Thank goodness you're here! A terrible creature is attempting to enter the Great Fairy's Fountain!"

"What kind of monster?" you question, walking inside the Temple with Aveli, the girl looking over the fairies, almost entranced by them.

"A canine monster in knight's armor, a Darknut!" the fairy says in an almost panic. "It's led even more of its kind into the temple. The Great Fairy did what she could to keep them out, but somehow, they seem to be getting stronger!"

"A Darknut, huh?" the Gerudo girl repeats in a way too enthusiastic tone. "Well, this just became well worth the trip."
