The victim can still try to attack, whether physically or with chakra, even without their senses. So beware of enemies that can continue to attack indiscriminately. I didn't get to be as old as I am by stubbornly keeping put in the path of danger, you know. So if I'm about to be attacked, you better believe I'll summon myself back. Also of note, if you summon all four of us, we can expand the range of our genjutsu to effect several people instead of just one."

The old monkey sets the statue down beside him and looks over it carefully.

"It's been a very long time since I've seen this statue, you know." Shizaru says, before smiling. "I'd nearly forgotten what a fantastic likeness of myself it is! Anyway, you did quite a good job boy. I imagine you're exhausted. You should go get some rest."

He's right. Your trek through the cavern has your whole body aching, not to mention the hunger. You're certainly not going to be getting to training without a good night's sleep first.

You thank Shizaru and bow one more time before leaving. Outside the cave it's the middle of the day, but you are far too tired to care. You find a nice warm spot in the sun and lay down, immediately falling asleep.

It's evening by the time you wake up, and Enma is sitting beside you. He offers you some various fruit, and you accept a few of them, sitting up.

"I spoke with Shizaru." Enma begins. "It seems your Kekkei Genkai gave you quite the edge in his trial. You could complete it faster than anyone else. Very impressive. Earning Shizaru's favor alone is quite the achievement for this trip. What else do you plan to do while you're here?"

If you want to make sure you stay in Sage Mode, you might have to try a new approach. You call Sarujizo over.

"What's up, boss?" he asks. "Need my help in your training?"

"I'm thinking of trying the fusion technique." you tell him. "It might work out better than wearing you on my face."

"Alright boss, if you say so. We can try it." Sarujizo scratches his head. "It may take a bit of work. I hear it feels really weird."

You and Sarujizo spend a couple of days practicing fusion until you can get it right. He was correct, and it does feel really weird. For both of you. You eventually get used to having him on your back, where he can gather nature chakra for you, and even use some techniques, but you find another problem. Sarujizo's body can't handle your Impact chakra. After a few major uses of it, he's forced out and the fusion ends. No matter how much you practice, it seems to remain the case.

"I'm really sorry about this, boss." Sarujizo sighs. "I mean, if you hold off on your Impact techniques, we can stay fused indefinitely, but I know that'd just slow you down."

Sarujizo looks pretty bummed. Like he's disappointed you.

We're going to be fighting a lot of people that Nebula Sphere will be useless against. Our bloodline is terrible for the endgame. Great in early game, but now our foes consist entirely of people who favor elements it's weak to. After making sure Sarujizo is cheered up, you practice more with the Nebula Sphere. You want to try and create it remotely, but the going is tough. After a week or so, you find two options that may work. If you from the sphere and then throw it, you can use it from a distance, but it is somewhat limited by being physically thrown. You've also found that you can form it remotely, using a series of hand seals. It's quite a long string, but it allows you to form it from quite a distance, without worrying about traveling to its target.

You take a break, as Enma comes along.

"Excellent work on that technique, Kon." he praises you. "That releae fo yours seems to be able to accomplish a wide variety of purposes. And you may have only just yet scratched the surface. It's quite entertaining to watch you develop it."

Only a waste of time if we don't get a chakra mode/cloak out of it. No matter how you look at it that shit's pretty high level, out of our league probably until quite recently.

It'd be awesome if it could be sustained. In Sage Mode it may even be possible to counter or avoid incoming Fire thanks to the massive difference in situational awareness, limiting such an ability's weakness.

Enma may have been onto something. Since attaining Sage Mode, you've mostly been using Impact in long range attacks. But it is possible to augment your taijutsu with it. You start practicing.

Sure enough, it seems like a solid tactic. In Sage Mode, you can channel your Impact chakra into a punch, and the effect is devastating. You're leaving huge fist shaped craters in the side of the mountain with ease. Impact really does compliment the ability. It's even more chakra efficient than firing off jutsu after jutsu. You spend a few days practicing it, to make sure you can use it effectively. Though there may be a way to develop it further.

You have about two weeks left to train, at the most. You think over how you want to spend that time.

Hell, forget comparable power. Somehow Kakuzu beat our senjutsu-enhanced Heavenly Lance with a Wind-Fire combo. No way that should have worked, senjutsu should have overpowered anything he could through at us. Hell, we punched through Pain's Shinra Tensei with it, it's really fucking powerful. The only way it wouldn't work would be if Impact is just that weak against it's opposing elements.

You make it your priority to find out how you can use this chakra projection with Impact to its greatest effect.

You note that your defensive Impact techniques have been trailing a bit, and think how to use this as a solution. Feedback had you focusing your Impact chakra to counter an incoming blow, but maybe projecting a cloak of Impact chakra could fulfill the same role even better. You spend a week working out the exact specifications, but almost immediately it shows promise. In Sage Mode, you can project Impact chakra over your entire body, both automatically augmenting your taijutsu, and deflecting incoming attacks. You get some of the monkeys to attack you in the cloak, but their fist are stopped before they ever reach you. Weapons don't fare much better. It's like a shield around your body, and it's absurdly tough. Even most jutsu are deflected unless they are very strong. Fire seems to be the only thing that poses a greater risk in this form, so you'll have to watch out, but you find that you are even faster than before, and can use your Impact techniques to greater effect when cloaked. This may be the very move you were searching for to get stronger. A whole new mode. Impact Sage Mode. You've heard of the Raikage's Lightning cloak, but even that is likely not as strong as this, with its nature chakra. You can even stay in this form for a very long time. This may make a huge difference on its own.

It even makes your Nebula Sphere stronger, as it gives you more immediate access to your Impact chakra. You can greatly expand the sphere and collapse large areas easily, even at a distance. After several more days of training, you are feeling very confident in your abilities.

It's getting close to time to leave. The Hokage wanted you back within the next couple of days.

You thank Shizaru, as well as the other wise monkeys as you leave, then find Enma.

"Thank you for your help, King Enma." you tell him. "I'm ready to go home now."

"I see." Emna replies. "I'd say you are ready as well. Your strength has swelled since I have known you, Kon. You are likely not far from rivaling Hiruzen now. In a few more years, I expect you to surpass him entirely. I look forward to it. Good luck."

You can't help but get infected with some of Kiba's enthusiasm. It is pretty cool that your whole squad has this.

"Congratulations man, that's awesome." you put your fist out for Kiba to bump, and he does so in earnest. "I've been training pretty hard too, got a new technique I can use in Sage Mode. I should show you some time. So how you been?"

"Well, besides Sage training, Kakashi Sensei and I went to the Land of Snow and hit a home run with the princess. She pledged a whole bunch of shinobi, so that's great. There is one other thing that's pretty important, so I'm glad you came. Let me just grab it here..."

Kiba fiddles through his pockets looking for something, but doesn't seem to find it. He turns to Akamaru.

"Akamaru! You took it, didn't you!" Kiba accuses, wrestling Akamaru for something he had in his mouth. Kiba eventually gets it back, but Akamaru just keeps growling.

Kiba holds up the object for you to see. It's a gold ring. It's pretty nice.

"I've been saving up for it. I think Tamaki will like it." Kiba tells you. "So Kon, I wanted to ask what you thought. What's a worse death flag? If I propose before I go to war, or if I say I'm gonna propose when I get back from war? Want to try and keep my odds up."

Akamaru is still pouting. He doesn't seem very enthused about this.

"If you propose before you go, you're dead for sure." you tell him. "It's better to do it when you get back. In fact the more people know about it, the more dangerous it is, so don't tell anybody else. For real though, it gives you that much more reason to make it back. Really though, I'm happy for you."

Kiba reaches over your shoulder.

"Thanks man, you know I appreciate it. Now I just gotta figure out who's the best man. I'm thinking you and Sasuke can do rock paper scissors or something." Kiba laughs, then lets you go. "I'm coming back alive. No matter what. So you guys better do the same. See you."

KIba and Akamaru wish you farewell and head off. It is getting a bit late. It nearly evening. You decide that the others can wait until tomorrow, since you still have it free. For now, it's time to head home.

You arrive at the restaurant to find it bustling. Your uncle peeks out of the kitchen and sees you.

"Hey Kon, you're back!" he calls. "Give me a minute, I can fit a break in, just take a seat!"

You find a table, then wait for a bit. Your uncle soon arrives with food for the both of you.

"I guess hiring more hands was a pretty good idea!" he says. "I can do stuff like this without hurting our hours. So how was your trip?"

"I think it went pretty well." you start. "I can punch holes in mountains, and the Third's old battle buddy said I had almost matched him. How have things been here?"

"Oh same old, same old." your uncle replies. "Business is going really well, but it's just not the same when you're not around, Kon. But I know that's just the way things are sometimes."

Your heart sinks just a bit.

"Uncle, I'm going to have to leave again soon." you tell him. "This time for the war. I won't be coming home until it's all over."

"I figured as much." your uncle replies. "You are just too important these days, huh? They can't do without you. I'd rather have you here with me at home, but you know I'm proud. You just go out there and do what you need to do. You know what, tomorrow I'll close up early. We can have a nice quiet meal together. Can't exactly accomplish that right now. Too many people. In fact, I should be heading back. But don't forget!"

Your uncle finishes up his dish, then returns to the kitchen to go back to work. You finish as well, then head up to your room to get a good night's sleep. You'll only get two more chances in your own bed before you leave.

As you drift off to sleep, you're anxious about the coming battles, but also confident. You feel stronger than you've ever been before. There is no way you will lose.

She tried to get in on that whenever she could, but that was not often. Sasuke stayed mostly at home with his mom. They did go out a couple of times though because she convinced Mikoto that he needed some air
