You hurriedly and silently return home after the show, in the dead of the night, and slam the door behind you with some relief.

'...Maybe they'll find your mother locked up somewhere. Don't lose hope.' is clearly what Amata wants to say. You can practically read the words on her face. But she doesn't dare speak. Ever since you received the message, both her and Tia have been utterly silent.

You throw yourself on the sofa, turning to stare at the ceiling.

...At least now you know. Dad is fine, and Eskarin is alive and well, too. They're in Gem, and they're alright. And you'll save them.

Amata sits down next to you. Tia on the ground next to the sofa.

"...What kind of person is your mother?" Tia suddenly asks.

IS, not WAS. You smile. She's trying so hard, bless her.

You sink your head deeper in the sofa's pillows, looking straight up. "She's always been very sickly. Very weak. She had tuberculosis when she was about my age, and it ruined her. I remember hearing the court physician being amazed that she was able to bear three children. When my little sister, Eskarin, was born - I was already six - everyone was afraid she'd die in childbirth then."

"But she didn't."

You smile. "...I don't want to bore you with sappy family stories. They're not going to change anything." You pull yourself back up. "Are there any other important things you'd say we need to handle while we're still here in the Neck."

"You've been neglecting the training of the Steelshard Mercenaries lately." Amata points out.

"I'm giving them a bit of rest." You reply, but it is true that they rested enough. Lately you've limited yourself to overseeing their drills, but you should complete the course soon. Their training is almost at an end, and they've got only two days left.

You glance out of the window, and correct yourself: it's already past midnight. Tomorrow should be the last day. Today, and then tomorrow.

According to your plans, at least, your honeymoon was going to last a week. By the 22nd of Resplendent Earth, you should head back home to Tianna.

You turn to Tia. "I'm sorry, I wanted this trip to just be... you know, "us" time, like I promised, but a lot of things happened."

She nods. "I know. Mercenaries and diplomacy and dragon-blooded and stuff. We'll catch up another time." And then she grins. "When are we going to Gem?"

She's eager.

You turn to Amata.

"Technically we're done with the Council of Patriarchs. We're not here to negotiate the deal, just to put a foot in the door, and we did that. Unless you want to secure a 'private meeting' with Bua Shing and conquer him with your 'feminine wiles'." She smiles. "Other than that, there's the Dragon-blooded. You said you wanted to invite them to Tianna?"

"Well, it was just an idea." You shrug. You haven't given it much thought, actually. What should you do?

>We're more or less done here in the Neck. Let's focus on finishing the training of the Mercenaries, and head back home.
>I mostly interacted with the Council and the people in charge, but i should do some form of public appearance as well.

>Who are we?
Maka, an exiled noble Exalted as a Zenith-caste Solar. Queen of Gem, now ruling the western island of Tianna. You have gathered a vast amount of allies and friends, and defeated every threat to Tianna up to now.
You recently discovered that Tianna is actually an artificial island, built around a First Age Titan: an almighty flying fortress. Your forces have crushed the Bodhisattva Anointed by Dark Water, a Deathlord who tried to usurp its power for himself.
And now, on the day of your wedding, the Unconquered Sun Himself appeared to you and crowned you Princess of Creation, asking you to be an example for others in these dark times.

>Solar? Zenith? I don't know Exalted...
This quest is as newbie-friendly as possible, and I want it to work as a newbie's intro to Exalted. If you have ANY question, ask in thread. For the setting, google "1d4chan exalted".

>Archive?
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Solar%20Quest

>System?
Dicepool-like system. When performing an action, everyone rolls 1d10 when posting. the first X rolls are considered, where X is equal to attribute + ability.

>XP?
Attributes cost [current score x5] xp. Abilities cost [current score x3] xp, except Zenith costing [(current score x3) -1]. Charms cost 10 xp, except for Zenith-based charms (related to charisma and physical/mental fortitude) which cost 8 xp. At the end of every "session" (thread) you will be presented with a list of possible acquisitions.

That's a definite plus in our direction, would be a good chance to cement the whole Princess of Creation thing too, get it in his head that it's not just a cool title we made up.

What are we going to do about the Monks though, before we planned to have them around Tianna, but if we plan on going to Gem soon I worry about leaving them alone in Tianna.

You discuss the plan of action with Amata and Tia and stay up another hour or so writing a letter, inviting Bua Shing to your home for a private meeting, or, if he prefers, at his place, and having it sent.

By then, Regis and Millian are long asleep, so you write a second letter for Garan Zha, and rest a bit yourself.

The next day, as soon as Millian and Regis are up and running, you inform them of your intentions.

"First of all, Regis, I'll need you to deliver another letter, this one to Bua Shing." You hand him the first. "And then, you and Millian will visit Garan Zha at the temple to Ocean Father, with this other letter."

Your butler takes the second letter in hand with a hint of suspicion and an arched eyebrow. "What's this about?"

"I'm asking him if he can train you in Terrestrial Martial Arts." You smile. "I don't know much about them, but I trust that he'll be able to teach you something of value."

"Um." Millian seems really unconvinced. "You know we're staying here just two more days, right? Unless you're planning on extending our stay here."

"...You're not leaving us behind, right?" Regis asks, worried.

"Two days might not be enough to learn a martial art, of course. But I'm hoping Garan Zha will give you an overview, so to speak." You reply. "Maybe in the future you'll do a full course in it, but for now, I'd just like you to be introduced to the subject."

Regis smiles. "Will you be alright, mistress Maka? Two days without us?"

"With no one to cook or clean this place is going to look like a disaster when we come back." Millian groans. "Do you know how to boil water, at least?"

You roll your eyes. "I'll manage to survive, don't worry about me."

With that said (plus a bit more ribbing from Millian), the two depart.

"You could've sent them out AFTER they cooked breakfast." Tia protests. You roll your eyes harder.

"Well, Bua Shing is certainly a very busy individual, so, at best, he'll be available in the afternoon, or even the evening, if at all today." Amata ponders.

"Well." You straighten your clothes. "That's taken care of. I think I'll go pay a visit to our dragon-blooded friends."

Tia stands up.

"I'll be alright. I don't think they'll want to fight if I don't provoke them." You reassure her.

"Things might go south anyway." Amata ponders. "Or they might think they have a chance at taking you down. Heck, maybe they do, we have no idea how strong they are."

That makes Tia visibly restless, and you have to forcibly shove her back onto the sofa to get her to sit back down. "But if I go there with Tia, they might see it as an attack, and react accordingly."

"It will end badly. For them." The Lunar replies, sure of herself as usual.

You juggle the two alternatives in your head. One one hand, it might actually be dangerous to go there alone. On the other, if you take Tia along with you, the likelihood of the meeting ending in a fistfight increases dramatically.

You reassure Tia that you'll be fine, and head out discreetly, trying not to draw as large a crowd as usual, and walk across Solid Shell at a brisk pace, reaching the Gate of Danaa'd just as the sun has finished rising.

The marvelous craftsmanship of the massive iron gate is really impressive, up close. The gardens are desert, and the monks you had spotted a few days ago are nowhere to be seen, maybe still sleeping or busy in some other part of their daily schedule.

From the hilltop there the Gate stands, a long stairway of basalt descends down to the shore, where it ends in front of the gate to a domed shrine, partially submerged, right where sea and land meet. You make your way there, realizing that the entire stairway is plainly visible from the shrine. If there's anyone awake, they'll have noticed you by now.

You're barely halfway down when you see a tall, drab-clothed woman emerge from the shrine's main door and walk upo to meet you on the stairs. She's carrying a large spear.

"That's close enough, Anathema." Nellens Ivana warns you. "Why are you here."

You lift both hands up. "Easy. I'm just visiting."

"You're not welcome here." She glowers.

"Can't I come in?"

"No." She replies, instantly.

"Look." You sigh. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you and Sanaya angry yesterday. I was rude and said something out of line and I'm sorry for that. I didn't want to offend."

She has no visible reaction to your words.

"I... I just want to be given a chance. I want to prove that I'm not the monster you believe me to be."

"So you're saying that the Immaculate Doctrine is wrong?"

Her sudden question does catch you off-guard.

You glance in her eyes for a second, sharp and confident. Since she seemed the less talkative of the two, you've underestimated her, but now, all of a sudden, you've fond yourself in a verbal minefield.

"Yes. I'm saying that it's wrong about me being an evil monster."

You take one step closer to her. She takes one step back.

"I know what I am. I'm SURE of what I am. I'm not perfect. I certainly do make mistakes or wrong choices, despite all my powers. Heck, I'm pretty sure I did a lot of them up to now. But that doesn't make me evil."

She's gripping her spear tighter.

"I've protected Tianna from the undead and the Lintha. I've fought a Deathlord off. I have received a mission from the Unconquered Sun... to make the world a better place. And I try. I really do."

"...If your argument is that you aren't any more evil than a normal mortal, then it's flawed anyway."

She relaxes her grip.

"Everyone has one of those days. Everyone makes wrong decisions, wrong calls. But someone with all your power can't afford it."

She points the spear at you. "As an Exalted, you need to hold yourself to far higher standards than you'd hold any mortal to. Because if when a mortal makes a mistake ten people die... when an Exalted makes a mistake, thousand can perish. The greater your power, the greater your potential for destruction."

Your turn to take a step back, now, as she waves that spear in your face. "Are you saying that having power is inherently evil? Having more power gives you the ability to use it for good as well." You reply.

"Evil is a lot easier than good, and gets easier and more alluring the more power you have, whereas good gets harder and harder. You might not be a monster today, but it's a matter of time."

"...Does this apply to Dragon-Blooded, too?" You counterattack. "It sounds like you're speaking from experience."

The hesitates, lowers the spear. "I've seen people misuse their power and authority, yes. This just proves my point. If even the virtuous Dragon-Blooded are capable of such evils as I have seen... I'm terrified of what you can do."

"Which is why I'm trying so hard. Ivana. I don't want to be your enemy." You implore her.

"What do you WANT, then?" She hisses.

"...to be your friend?" You suggest with a smile.

[S+Z = 9 7 5 7 10 8 1 1 4 7 1 7 10 1 6 = 10 successes]

"What if I don't want to be your friend?" She replies.

You keep smiling, and she groans and shoulders the spear.

"Are you brainwashing me?"

"I'm not brainwashing you."

"Maybe you don't know that."

"Does that mean-"

That's about when Ragara Sanaya, running up the stairs at the speed of sound, screams past you with a flaming roundhouse kick that you narrowly manage to duck under.

"IVANA ARE YOU ALRIGHT DON'T WORRY I'LL HELP YOU LET'S KILL HER"

Then, the Fire-aspect's enthusiasm kind of dies down as she sees you smiling and Ivana just facepalming.

"...What- WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY IVANA?! YOU MONSTER!"

"...It's nothing, Sanaya. Nothing happened. She just came here to talk."

Her aura blazes back to bonfire brilliance. "Yeah, right. Like hell I'll just sit down and listen to the wicked lies of the whore queen of Tianna!" She turns to Ivana. "...Right?"

She doesn't answer. She turns around and heads back to the temple.

"...What did you DO to her?!" She growls, even angrier.

You are, you built up an intimacy in Ivana with just two attacks.

Incidentally, if you used Husband-Seducing Demon Dance + Rose-Lipped Seduction Style, you'd have +12 base social damage. (6 from your Social score +6 from charms).

A basic intimacy is 10, an important one is 15 and a life-defining one is 20.

You watch the two of them walk down the stairs and re-enter the shrine.

You brush some dirt off one of the steps and sit down.

You want.

[S+Z= 2 8 7 7 4 5 10 2 3 6 10 1 2 10 10]

After about ten minutes of waiting, Sanaya climbs back up along the stairway.

"Are you done sulking?"

"I'm not sulking." You smile. "I'm waiting."

She makes an angry yet incomprehensible sound. "Ivana seems to believe that you're worth inviting to the temple for breakfast at least. Something about giving you a chance or something."

You stand up.

"Try anything and I'm going to END you." She points out, threateningly, shoving you in front of her as you both re-descend the stairs.

"I'll behave, I promise." You guarantee.

Finally, you make it to the temple. The inside is fairly barren: tapestries depicting abstract, elemental motifs and small canals dug on the rock carrying water being the only real thing drawing your notice in the large, empty rooms you enter. Some have carpets, some a few chairs and tables. It's hard to guess what each room is used for.

Finally, she shoves you into a small, side room, which, in stark contrast to the rest of the building, is rather comfortable (but not "richly") furnished: a low tea table, carpets, cushions and pillows, a small fireplace. Ivana is already sitting by it, watching a kettle boil. "Welcome."

"It's a pretty nice temple." You nod, sitting down at the table as Sanaya shoves you there now.

"We're not leaving." the Fire-aspect remarks.

I also think that's what we should rely on here. They've shown that they adhere to their beliefs, so if we can correct or throw doubt on some of those beliefs as they relate to us, I think that issue will correct itself.
>>
"Don't worry, no one will make you leave." You reassure them. "But, as for the Immaculate Doctrine, eh... We might have a problem."

"We certainly do." Sanaya replies, sullen.

"I believe in freedom of religion." You point out. "But there's a problem when your religion says that I'm a monster. And also when your religion says that you should restrict the freedom of religion of others."

She slams her fist on the tea table, causing Ivana to swoop in and lift the kettle full of boiling water enough that it won't spill. The Earth-aspect gives her a harsh glare, but she doesn't seem to notice. "That's unacceptable."

You groan. "You've tried to deny the locals' faith into the gods of the sea, and their ancient tribal customs, for decades."

"The Hundred Gods heresy is a blight on Creation." She replies. You can't give gods that kind of unregulated worship, or they'll keep wanting more and more! You've seen how in Wavecrest they even throw people in volcanoes to appease them!"

"And I'm not saying that this sort of worship should be allowed. Tianna's volcano goddess demanded human sacrifice too. I denied it. I'm just saying that there's a middle ground between denying freedom of religion, and throwing people into volcanoes. Can't we walk that line?"

"You'd want to, considering you're a close ally of the major deity of the archipelago." Ivana sneers.

"Exactly because I'm close with him, I can keep him under control. Look, I don't want the situation to degenerate and harm people as much as you do. Can't we work together on this?"

As Ivana pours tea, Sanaya grabs the freshly poured cup and chugs the scalding hot liquid in one go, angrily. "How, exactly?"

(cont.)
>>
"First of all, let them go back to their original customs."

"Sure, the ones involving a lot of god-blooded. That's just the gods preying on mortals for sexual favors."

"I don't think the practice is so abusive as you make it out to be." You try to explain. "It's a different culture from the one I or you grew up in. As Exalted, I think our role should be one of oversight. Let's not put god-blooded children and human sacrifice on the same level."

"If we're talking about islander culture, they're also hideously misogynistic." Ivana points out. "We escape that prejudice as both foreigners and Exalted, but is this just another "cultural thing" we have to accept, or ignore since it doesn't affect us personally?"

"Well, no, but we can work in the long term. We're blessed with a long lifespan, after all." You grin. "Besides, it's not like the Realm has done anything for this particular problem either, so it's pretty unfair of you to bring it up."

They both fall silent for a second.

"And all that's without getting in the issue of how your faith sees us Celestial Exalted."

That was the problem with the First Age. Eventually the Solars got so powerful that they got bored and had to make up new and terrible things to keep themselves entertained, a problem which was made worse by the Great Curse.
Eventually, the biggest challenge we're going to face is keeping things form going down that path again.

To use a more mundane comparison, we'd be George Lucas.
>>
>>45882025
It does, EF has confirmed it does, it's just not the typical one.
>>

>The Great Curse doesn't seem to exist in this campaign
Have you not been reading the same quest?

The Great Curse is a real and legit thing, EF is just using a homebrewed version rather than RAWs whole Limit Track and Limit Break.
>>
>>45882025
Our limit break is being paranoid of everything. Its happened at least twice.
>>
>>45882025
Our great curse is being a gigantic slut, There's a reason we aren't getting into orgies with random people anymore.
>>
>>45881989
It's not even luck, even downright average rolls are insane results due to Maka's sheer dice pools.

>>45881943
Yes, it is. It's like the super awesome swordsman who is sad because he can't find anyone to fight that is a challenge anymore, which is a fairly common trope.
Maka is the social equivalent of that. Only a few gods and Celestials, and a very small amount of Terrestrials, could stand up to Maka in social combat right now.

These two DBs are pretty headstrong, but they have very average social stats. Not exactly the top of the debate class, so to speak. (If they were, they probably wouldn't be in the Neck of all places)

>>45882023
and
>>45882025
know what they're talking about. We're at the point where, in social situations, your greatest challenge is not in persuading people, but in not accidentally damaging them. And it's a problem only as long as you do care about not damaging them.

Personally, I find it very interesting. You have an enormous amount of power, very little oversight, and unlike Superman, you don't even have to worry about people not liking you if you start acting like a dick. They'll STILL like you.

It's really a test of character.

Writing new post now.

Does that mean, hypothetically, that the quest will end if we manage to get rid of the Great Curse, or at least Maka's?
Also, what about that time we controlled Regis?

"We're not going to deny the Immaculate Doctrine, though." Ivana crosses her arms. "That's out of the question."

"I'm not asking for that." You repeat. "I just want you to leave these people their customs, as long as they're not, like, throwing people into volcanoes or something like that, and to stop calling me and my circlemates monsters and Anathema and so on."

They both nod. "Well, we can wait and see if your and your circlemates' actions are obviously evil or if we can try and see you in a different light." Sanaya admits. "Like how you claim to be Exalted and such."

"Uh, I AM an Exalted. I use charms, I wield artifacts, I can attune manses and magical materials... I could probably learn Sorcery, even though I think I'm not cut for that. We Solars just work differently from Terrestrials, our castes correspond to phases of the sun rather than natural elements."

"It's not hereditary, though. You don't have the Dragon's Blood."

"It's not." You reply. "Celestial Exaltations are... think of them as disembodied spirits, seeking appropriate hosts and fusing with them."

"Well, we know anyone can become an Anathema, unless he's already Exalted as a Dragon-Blooded." The Fire-Aspect explains. "And that it doesn't just happen in childhood, but could occur at any age."

"S-stop using the A-word, please." You cringe. "Anyway, yes." You briefly let a sliver of Essence flare in your castemark. "And each of us has a symbol on his forehead that indicates our Caste."

"We know those symbols, yeah." She nods. "They're... not exactly good symbols in the Faith."

"I can imagine."

"Though I must admit it looks pretty." She almost catches herself saying that, and blushes furiously, trying desperately to keep a straight face.

The best part, for now, is that Maka only got a shard of it, with other shards going to other Solars UCS-senpai has Noticed. So even if he successfully stops some of us, there are still more crowned Solars out there.
The best feeling though will be when UCS trusts us with the whole thing because we are his favorite.
>>
>>45885843
Would he have to take back all the other pieces to make the full crown?

That sure will suck for Mister Second Favorite Solar.
>>
>>45885879
I suppose that depends on how it was made in the first place.
Is the crown an actual thing he broke up to give to the Solars who he thinks are doing a good job, or did he just imbue them with power and it's called a shard because it's only a small part of the power he gave to Queen Merela.
>>
>>45885843
>The best part, for now, is that Maka only got a shard of it, with other shards going to other Solars UCS-senpai has Noticed. So even if he successfully stops some of us, there are still more crowned Solars out there.
Pretty sure we're the only one with a crown

>>45885983
Yup.

>"THIS IS WHY I WILL GRANT IT ONLY TO YOU. THIS IS A FRAGMENT OF THE CROWN OF THUNDERS, THE SYMBOL OF SUPREME SOLAR AUTHORITY AND THE EMBODIMENT OF THE CREATION-RULING MANDATE."

>"IT IS NOT YET TIME FOR THE FULL CROWN TO BE RETURNED TO CREATION AND FOR CREATION TO HAVE A QUEEN ONCE MORE."

>"BUT, FOR NOW, YOU WILL CARRY A FRAGMENT OF THAT POWER IN MY NAME, AND BE ITS PRINCESS."

Damn that was a good thread.
>>
>>45886209
Huh, I thought he gave all the people who were getting audiences with him a piece. Guess I remembered wrong.
Though it makes sense not to hand out to many if he eventually intendeds to give someone us the full thing.

>>
>>45883592
I think you get an XP for that.
>>
>>45878484
You know I still am a bit amazed at that picture of when I stop and think about it.
I mean she's that big at Social (Appereance) 6. Stats in Exalted go up to 10, which mean there are still 4 points of growth left in her.
I can't wait. Outrageously huge and unrealistic proportions are my fetish.
>>
>>45886657
>Stats in Exalted go up to 10
14
>>
>>45886973
What, how?
I thought stats were capped by essence, which was capped at 10.
>>
>>45887034
Anyone can get Legendary (Attribute) as a merit which increases the cap by another +1 for a specific attribute; Akuma get a general +1 to Trait caps (including Attributes) in 2e; Lunars can get Impossible (Attribute) Improvement for the same effect as Legendary (Attribute) but as a Charm instead of a Merit. I can't remember what allowed the fourth dot over ten, might've been mistaken.
>>
>>45887165
So nothing actually relevant to Maka?
>>
>>45886657
Yeah, but the way EF runs it, Social is an amalgamated stat and at a certain point you can't push the physical beauty any further.

Now I could be wrong but as I understood (or perhaps just as I envisioned it) Maka has been pushed to the limits of beauty in terms of physicality and further pushes in Social play on presence and metaphysics. What I mean is in pure appearance Social 6 Maka and Social 10 Maka would look the same (like the 25 hottest women on the planet were fused into one single sex beast), but would still vary hugely in practice.

Right now at Social 6 Maka is the ultimatesex bomb, she walks into a room and boners are popped and loins moisten and everyone is my inclined to listen to what she says but most people can control themselves. At Social 8 a Blind man would know when she enters a room and a mere word would cause most men to weep and offer to leave their wives. At Social 10 Maka mere presence would demand reverence from mortals and blind deaf men would give their hands for an hour in your presence. (Something like that)
>>
>>45887200
She could get Legendary (Attribute), in theory, since Merits can be purchased in-play with justification. And the statement was about the game Exalted in general.
>>
>>45887165
Godhood. Gods get stats up to 14 if I recall.
>>
>>45887228
Sex Energy Field when?
>>
>>45887258
I think that's more that powerful gods (and other entities) don't follow the same meta-laws that the Exalted do. NPC powers and all that. For example, Luna has a bunch of Attributes at 15.
>>
>>45887256
>She could get Legendary (Attribute), in theory
Not really since merits aren't a thing in Exalted Quest and the context of the statement was in regards to Maka and ExaltedQuest's upper limits
>>
>>45887228
You're killing my boner man.
Still, I imagine you're right, since her current body caused a minor shitstorm, but it's fun to dream about her getting even bigger.

>>45887266
This reminds me of a question I aked EF on ask.fm about a version of the Infernal Charm that lets someone "sleep" while running, only our version would be for Sex. I can't remember if he ever answered me though.
>>
>>45887306
And then UCS has like, some Attributes up to like 20 i think
>>
>>45887341
I'm pretty sure I saw that question, I think he said yeah that it would be a Zenith charm
>>
>>45887266
Again I was giving broad examples, based on how Maka has been up to this point, but my interpretation is that a 10 Social character is pretty much a forced and automatic intimacy. Other Exalts but exude this in different or multiple ways, but pretty much engender feelings of Lust, Comfort, Love, Bliss, Reverence, Trust, Loyalty, Ect. (Or if this is the first age or your an Abyssal Fear, Submission, Unease, Dread, Ect.)

>>45887341
A. Sorry to be a buzz kill
