Cao sits in the shade of a tent that the OWEA hastily constructed when their helicopters landed. He doesn’t recognize much of what is around him, but he was given a water canteen and that he does recognize. After retrieving his belongings from the back of Johnny Cage’s Ferari and saying goodbye to Cassie and Jacqui one final time as they climbed into a helicopter for transport back to their home realm, he finds himself missing them already. They were the first and closest friends he’d ever made… Except for, perhaps, Trevor.

But here he now sits, in a position to betray the faith and trust of the Black Dragon to their enemies, the Special Forces. They sprung him from a death sentence in Kotal Kahn’s arena, and were not unpleasant to him, this is true. They offered to pay him a large amount of money in exchange for a job, enough to get him and his sisters out of Z’unkahrah, but now, an alternative arises. Cassie and Jacqui both expressed to him the possibility of him earning asylum for himself and his sisters in Earthrealm. That is an opportunity that perhaps not even money could buy. From what he was told, Earthrealm is nice. Perhaps his sisters would like it there… and he would be a world away from Kotal Kahn.

And a world away from avenging himself upon the Emperor and his hated First Minister, D’Vorah. He closes his eyes and tries to focus on what is truly important: his sisters. And yet, his most recent adventure revealed something to him, something deep within him that he never truly knew before. Running, fighting, stealing, these were things that before he did only to survive. But now he is beginning to understand that he actually enjoys them. The rush of a chase, the thrill of a fight to the death, the adrenaline and heart-pounding tension… even killing others felt good. Like he was finally striking back at the world that had walked over him for so long.

He brings up a hand and clenches it into a fist. He is beginning to understand the kind of strength he can truly wield. Not just to run away, but to stand and fight if need be and even to kill if he must. Would life in Earthrealm suit him with this newest revelation?

He sighs. That doesn’t matter. His sisters and what is best for them is what is important, he mustn’t ever forget. He still has the ingredient Nitara required to cure Sanra of her affliction. Once that is done, then she’ll be awake and truly alive again.

He looks over at the white hat of Ashrah. Despite all that happened, it is still in good condition. He picks it up and stares into the fabric. She spoke to him once before, giving him guidance. He wishes she would do so again, but there is only silence.

At that moment, General Sonya Blade, Cassie’s mother, walks into the tent. She is a strong, stern woman, with a no-nonsense look on her face. She approaches the table Cao is sitting at and sits opposite him, while outside two soldiers stand guard. She looks him up and down and he in turn, but she is the one to break the silence.

“Tell me what you know about the Black Dragon,” she says in an authoritative tone, like she is giving an order to one of her soldiers. Cao narrows his eyes a bit. He’s always had a problem with people in positions of power, but she is Cassie’s mother and she did firebomb the three armies that were chasing them into hell, so she’s got those points in her favor.

But she wants the Black Dragon, that much is clear. She clearly could have taken the radio from Cao that Kano gave him, but her willingness to speak to him demonstrates that she is open to cooperation. Perhaps because he helped keep her daughter alive…

Cao speaks as best and as clearly as he can, beginning with his imprisonment, meeting Trevor, his escape and detailing his deal with Kano. He keeps other details, such as the ones involving vampires, to himself for the moment. General Blade listens to every detail, occasionally asking Cao to describe some of the members of the Black Dragon so as to confirm their identities.

Afterwards, she takes a moment to assess the information as he presented it before telling him, "I spoke with Cassie a bit. She told me quite a few things about her time here in Outworld. Now, I don't know you, Cao, but you helped my daughter and another member of my Army, the daughter of a very good friend of mine."

"The one with the arms made out of metal," Cao nods.

"He is wearing those. His arms are not only metal. They're like armored gloves."

Cao nods and allows her to continue. "You're from this realm and you have no involvement with the Black Dragon, and my forces may have come here for a different purpose originally, but now that the opportunity has arisen, I am going to pursue them. Do you know why?"

"Cassie told me a bit about your... past with Kano."

"There is more to it than that, but yes. I want Kano. I want him alive, in chains, dragged back to Earthrealm to face trial and death and I would give anything to be the one to pull the trigger."

Cao's brows shoot up a bit as she recomposes herself. "But as I said, this is not your fight. Now, normally I would immediately confiscate the radio he gave to you and that would be the end of our relationship. We have established protocols. But given the situation we are both in, I am willing to make a deal with you."

She grabs the radio and slides it between them. "You can walk away and leave the radio here. We will secure transport for you back to your home and we will not alert Kotal Kahn to your presence, despite whatever he may have wanted you dead for. That is because of the help you gave to Specialist Cage and Briggs."

"Or?" Cao asks.

"Help me take out the Black Dragon, and I will personally find a way to bring you and your sisters to Earthrealm and grant you citizenship."

Cao looks between her and radio. "It's your choice," she says, allowing him to think.

"We're going to use the radio to lure them into a trap. Assuming you're on board with us, you will use it to contact them and get them into the open. I would prefer a chance to get you back inside of their headquarters so that we could locate it and attack it, but even if you only manage to lure out a few of them, we can capture them and interrogate them as to its location."

Cao crosses his arms and thinks for a moment.

Cao looks back up at the general. "What would it mean, though? Going to Earthrealm? What would it be like?"

She leans back a bit. "Well, speaking from personal bias over my home plane of existence, it's much nicer than Outworld. I don't think I've ever seen a single blade of green grass in this damn realm that wasn't trying to kill you or poison you or was at the foot of a tree trying to eat you. Earthrealm is nice, kid. I'd set you and your sisters up with someplace nice to live, likely temporarily on a military base."

"What about Cassie and Jacqui?"

Sonya cocks an eyebrow. "What about them?"

"I was hoping to see them again."

"Maybe, someday," Sonya says offhandedly. "I'd probably hand you three over to some kind of worker who specializes in integrating others into our culture. We've never had refugees from another realm, however, so that presents its own kind of problems. You and your sisters would get a chance to live a simpler, better life. Certainly better than Outworld can offer."

"What would I do? Where would I work?"

"Somewhere suited to your skills," Sonya replies.

Sonya considers this newest bit of information. "You seem like you have some fight in you, alright. A bit scrappy but you seem quick. Well, it's a bit too early to decide anything for certain yet, but there are always opportunities for work in the government for someone with unique skills and a talent for not getting caught."

Cao isn't sure how to feel about that, but Sonya decides to continue on, "Either way, I'm certain that whatever you end up with in Earthrealm would be better than your life in Outworld."

"Maybe I could work with Cassie and Jacqui," Cao suggests. "I like them."

Sonya cocks a brow. "Yes, they seem rather fond of you as well. They say you held up well for yourself. Maybe there'd be an opportunity to work alongside the Special Forces and the OWEA, but such a relationship requires time and trust, Cao. We can start building that trust if you help me take down Kano and his Black Dragon."

Cao considers her words some more as he weighs the pros and cons of this decision.

Cao looks her in the eyes. "Alright. I'm in."

"Wonderful," she says, sliding the radio to him. "We'll take you back to Z'unkahrah after we settle a few other matters here. This FOB will be torn down in less than an hour and we'll be ready to move before then."

She stands up and walks to the entrance, with Cao gathering his things and following after her. He secures both swords to his belt and steps out into the afternoon light.

The camp is small, with helicopters and soldiers forming a perimeter. Jax is nearby, dealing with the prisoners. Some surviving convoy members and amazons---including Zara, the amazonian queen.

Not far from there, the OWEA soldiers are securing a powerful and strange artifact into a metal, hazard-proof crate: the crystal skull mounted on Crashsmash's hood. They secure it and move it to one of the helicopters.

Jax approaches Sonya. "We've got them captured but Ms. High-And-Mighty won't talk. We can take her back with us to command, General."

"That's difficult to confirm," Sonya replies. "Remember, we're not even sanctioned to be here. But she's seen us and knows a bit too much. It's safer to bring her with us than risk her exposing our position."

Zara stares defiantly up at Jax and Sonya, those who formerly she once defeated long ago, but now the tables have turned.

She spies Cao and the amazonian blade at his side and her ire grows twice as fierce.

Cao can't help but smirk as he walks up to her. Nearby, Jax is asking questions to one of the madmen from Crashsmash's convoy. Zara gets a defiant look on her face as Cao leans down a bit. "Looks like you got caught," he says with a chuckle. "I guess that's twice that a man got the better of you now, isn't it?"

"I'll not sit idly and be degraded by the likes of you!" she spits back.

"No, you'll sit there while tied up and be degraded by the likes of me," Cao laughs and her eyes widen in anger. "So to hell with you, your tribe and your dinosaurs."

He takes out her sword and holds it up. "I think I'll keep this, though. It's a habit of mine; keeping things I take from people who probably didn't deserve them." He pats his hand with it a bit. "Hey, speaking of which, how'd you survive when I defeated you in single combat?"

"You did not defeat me! I returned because I am stronger than you! Such a blow would have surely killed you."

"Yeah, maybe... but it didn't, now, did it? So I win."

Cao laughs as he walks away from her. Two OWEA soldiers have to restrain her and a third points a firearm as she tries to get up and go after him.

Cao walks up to Sonya, who seems somewhat amused. "You can definitely get a rise out of her."

"Shame it's not the other way around," Cao jokes.

Cao asks Sonya, "So, what was that glowing skull that Crashsmash used?"

"We know that it opens portals. They used it in order to travel and raid their way across the realms, popping in and out of Earthrealm to rob, murder and burn things. Far as we can tell, he had it hooked up to his car's engines and is creates portals when electricity is generated and pumped into it." Cao nods his head and tries to follow along. "We're still not sure on the exact method used to control it. That secret may have died with him."

"Yeah, he's finished alright," Cao agrees, fondly remembering the decapitation he delivered to the burning psychopath.

Cao excuses himself from Sonya, who goes to check on the preparations for leaving, and he walks up to Jax. The man finishes his questioning and turns to regard Cao as he walks up.

Jax dwarfs Cao in every regard, especially with the mechanical augmentation on his arms. He takes out a cigar and lights it up. "What's up?" he asks in a deep voice.

"I've agreed to help," Cao replies. As Jax nods in approval, he takes a toke on the cigar and blows out the smoke. Cao watches his arms in motion. "Did you kill a metal man and take his arms for your own?"

"No," Jax laughs. "Special Forces technology at its finest. We went through a lot of different stages but this one is the latest version."

"Well, it seems like it works well," Cao says. "I saw you jump out of the sky and smash one of those cars."

"Felt good to cut loose like that after so long," Jax admits. "Don't always have much cause to in the current job."

"Do they run on elec-tri-city?" Cao asks, sounding out the term Sonya used.

"Partially," Jax replies. "It uses a few different power sources but electricity is a key component. Some oil and other synthetic fluids help keep them going. And of course, my own arms underneath."

"If someone had no arms, would they still work?"

"Hm. Good question. I suppose they could, but they'd have to be modified to work more on brain-wave patterns."

Cao isn't completely sure about all he means, but it's all impressive nonetheless. Jax finishes his cigar, puts it out in his metal palm and pats Cao on the shoulder.

"Stick around, kid, you'll see all sorts of crazy tech."

Seems like Jax has taken a liking to him. Probably because of Jacqui, much like Cassie and Sonya.

Cao follows him over to General Blade, who is overseeing the final preparations for leaving.

"So, what kind of magic do you use to open your portals to Earthrealm?" Cao asks.

"Technology, not magic," Sonya replies. "About twenty years ago we learned how to generate portals through physical and mechanical means. We had to study magic in order to do it but we were able to learn from it, adapt it and now make use of them to explore the realms and establish diplomatic ties, as well as conduct missions such as this."

"We're working on making portal generators that are portable, but it hasn't proved feasable yet," Jax adds.

"So, what's the plan on the mission, exactly?"

"Well, you tell us. What's your opinion on how this should go down?" Sonya asks. "Given your experience with Kano, what would be the best way to lure him out?"

Cao thinks for a moment before answering, "Take me back to Z'unkahrah and I'll do the job for him. He and his men will be more likely to come out if I actually have what they need."

"What exactly are you attempting to steal that Kano wants?" Jax asks.

"The helmet and hammer of Shao Kahn," Sonya replies. Jax mutters something and shakes his head. "You sure that's best?" she asks.

"If I get those, they'll come for me," Cao affirms with a nod of his head.

"Alright. They're in the capital city under Kotal Kahn's palace?" Sonya asks, and Cao nods again. "We'll drop you off around its outskirts. We won't go any further north than the Living Forest; we can't risk being seen by Kotal Kahn."

"Why?" Cao asks.

"We came to get our daughters," Jax says. "In doing so, we broke several protocols of travel to Outworld. We want to keep our presence here a secret, if possible, from Kotal Kahn."

"Aren't your realm and Outworld allies?" Cao asks as they walk towards a helicopter.

"In theory," Sonya replies. "It's a tentative relationship. Many of Earthrealm still think Outworld is an enemy due to the invasion twenty years ago. We cooperate and stay out of each other's way, but we do not collaborate."

"And like we said, there are rules in place, and we've broken a few of them already," Jax says. "But that's between us."

Cao climbs into the helicopter and is helped by Sonya to buckle in. With the camp broken down, the prisoners on board and the helicopters ready to roll, they take off and fly north across the wastelands.

Cao looks down and is amazed at how fast and high they are going. Earthrealm technology is truly amazing for them to have mastered the power of mechanical flight. The imagery in his head of them firebombing the three armies and blasting the tarkatans out of the air with heavy minigun fire is more than enough to make him believe in the power their machines wield.

He wonders if such power could defeat Kotal Kahn and his empire...

An hour later, and the helicopters are touching down. Cao, Sonya and Jax disembark and look on at the Living Forest.

"Take this," Sonya says, handing him a small device. "This is a tracking device. Press this button," she shows him, "and it will activate and we'll be able to follow you anywhere in the realm. Use it if the Black Dragon take you to their base, or see if you can plant it on one of them. If they take you to a neutral site to meet the buyer of the helmet and hammer, then use it then and we'll come to your aid."

"You gonna be okay on your own?"

"I know the way," Cao nods.

"Good luck," Sonya says.

Cao takes a deep breath and heads north, waving goodbye to Sonya and Jax as he hides the tracking device on his person. He steps onto the path leading into the dark, misty woods and prepares himself for his second journey into this dark place.

He hates it here. The mist concealing who knows what, the trees watching his every step, vampires and other creatures lurking in the shadows... But then again, this is where he met Ashrah.

He adjusts her white hat on his head and sighs. He'll probably have no such luck this time. He'll probably run into another Nitara or some such other unlucky situation. As he walks along the path, he finds himself missing her. She was strangely pleasant to be around. Warm, one could say.

Cao pauses as the guilt of her death briefly wracks him with regret. He clenches his fist and resolves to maintain his determination.

He continues walking.

Cao sticks to the path, not wanting to get lost or become ambushed by something lurking in the thicker parts of the forest. He keeps his hands on his swords and keeps going forward.

About halfway through the forest, he hears a strange noise. Glancing this way and that, he pauses as he listens for it. It comes again, stronger this time, and sounding like a group of people fighting. Cao grows a bit curious and wonders if he should investigate.

Cao steps off the trail and sneaks as best he can towards the sounds of shouting. He comes upon a strange sight.

A lone female warrior, a monk by the looks of it, is fighting off a series of what appear to be reanimated corpses! They are in various stages of rot and covered in vines and roots that appear to be animating them. The monk, with white hair, orange-yellow robes and black beads on a string around her neck, punches one in the chest and bursts his spine through his back with one palm-strike. The corpse lets out a painful wail, the ones he heard before, and writhes on the ground before dying. The roots on the body then seem to untangle themselves from it and crawl away.

She attacks another, blocking its sword swing before tearing off his arm and beating another down with it. She is doing rather well, all things considered.

Cao draws his dadao and leaps from the bushes, striking down one of the plant-corpses! The creatures, several of them left, notice his presence and half of them turn towards him, arms outstretched, mouths agape and moaning. They smell terrible, and a bit like old grass.

The female monk, who now Cao can see is only a bit older than himself, turns to him in surprise as well. "What? Who are you?"

She suddenly is forced to turn back as one of the skeletal-root-monsters swings a club down at her. She brings up both arms and blocks the downward strike.

Cao slices with his sword, cleanly cutting through the head of a plant zombie. It rolls away, landing amongst some rocks. The body falls back and the roots die.

Two more advance upon him, but he keeps them at bay with a few swipes. They recoil from them, not wanting to get hurt, and wait for a chance to strike. So they're not entirely mindless or acting with no self-prevervation...

Three of them corner the monk and she prepares to defend herself while three more advance on Cao all at once!

One of them tears the sword out of Cao's hands and throws it aside. They begin to drag him along the ground, towards one of the Living Trees, who opens its mouth in anticipation of eating him!

Cao begins to panic and struggle, breaking free of their grasp! One of them reaches for him but he grabs a rock and bashes its skull in. He rolls away and draws his second blade, the amazonian one, and prepares for them as they advance.

Cao attempts to cut a plant man in half, but the blade becomes lodges in the corpse's shoulder! He yanks, but the creature punches him in the face and he falls back, managing to pull it free.

The three zombies continue to advance upon him.

Just then, the female monk leaps over Cao, burying her foot in one of their chests with a flying kick. She lands and twists, spinning him while kicking downward with her other leg, cutting him in half with her feet. She flips back as the remaining two attempt to tackle her, but she reaches her arms across to grab both by the jaw and pulls them towards each other, mashing their faces together before punching them both.

She roundhouses them to the side, and when they don't get back up, she straightens herself and looks back at Cao, offering him a hand to help him up.

Cao takes her hand and she pulls him up to his feet. "Thank you," he says.

"For saving you or pulling you up?" she says with a light chuckle. She looks around to make sure no further creatures are advancing. "Looks like that's all of them."

"Who are you?" he asks as she walks to one of the corpses and lightly nudges it with her feet.

"Nobody important," she replies. "My name is Lex."

"Your moves were great!" Cao compliments her. "Where did you learn them?"

"A school across the sea, under a great master." She stretches a bit and finally turns back to him. "Now, for you: why did you interfere and endanger yourself?"

"Well, uh..." Cao says. "I thought you looked overwhelmed."

"Numbers mean nothing when the enemy is weak," she replies, walking over to his dadao. She kicks it up to her hand and examines it. "A kahn guard blade... Interesting."

She looks back at him. "A little too short to be a kahn trooper, though. Steal this?"

"It was offered, actually," Cao replies.

Lex shrugs and tosses it over to him. He catches it in his free hand as she folds her arms. "You should be careful jumping into fights you have no business involving yourself in. At best, all you served was as a distraction for half of them while I took them out. They intended to feed you to that tree, you know."

"I gathered as much," Cao replies.

"Be more careful in the future," she advises him. "After all, you haven't been trained by the likes of Bo' Rai Cho." She prepares to leave the clearing, heading deeper into the woods.

He pauses, and after a moment, he looks back. "I don't know what it was," he says again. "I'm... I'm late. My sister is waiting for me."

He makes it to the bushes and runs back to the main road.

He can't get the imagery out of his mind. What was that? The red, the skull, the eyes... the voice speaking to him as though it were right in his ear...

He closes his eyes and shakes his head, putting a hand to his forehead. He can't remember anything else... he has no memory of how he summoned the power or how he used it, or how he could conjure it again. The redness in his vision was like a crimson fog that blanketed his mind with a terrible, all-consuming rage, that despite lasting only a fraction of a second, overwhelmed him completely and utterly.

'What was that...' he thinks again as he pants. He's strange at the moment, fearful... he doesn't even really know why he ran away from Lex like he did. But his sister does need him at the moment...

He looks around the shack but finds no evidence of them. He begins to panic.

Cao takes a moment to calm down before he confirms that this is the proper shack, which it is. He begins to search the town for any signs of his sisters when he is suddenly pulled into an alleyway by a set of strong, yet soft, arms.

Nitara pulls him close against her and whispers into his ear. "Shhh..."

Cao struggles a bit but she holds him still as several men from the fishing piers walk by. She then releases him. "Well, well, well... back so soon, my favorite new toy?" she asks with a pleased smile. "I didn't expect you for at least two more days when I would come to retrieve you..."

Cao suddenly surges forward and grabs her by the collar. Her eyes flare with excitement. "Where are my sisters!?" he demands.

"Oh, so fierce," she licks her lips. "Are you going to attack me?"

"Tell me!" he orders her.

"They are safe in your home in the aqueducts of Z'unkahrah," she casually replies, not threatened by him at all. "Your dearest little sister told me that your home was caved in."

"It was..." he says, his grip softening a little.

"So, I moved them and brought your family back home." She fixes him with an expecting gaze. "Well? I'm waiting for you to thank me. Personally I felt it was very generous of me to do so..."

"I wasn't expecting you back so soon," she says, looking him over. "What happened to you?" She gently cups his cheek but he shakes his head. "You look injured and scarred."

"I'm fine, but no thanks to you," he says. He lets go and takes out the flowers. "Now here they are. Fix my sister."

She takes the flowers and smells them. "Yes, these will do nicely."

She tucks them away and gently lays a hand on Cao's shoulder. "Tell me of what happened to you," she says, sounding genuinely concerned. Cao doesn't quite believe her, however.

"Take me to my sisters."

"Very well," she sighs. "Perhaps after you've calmed down a bit you will be more willing to tell me of what happened to you."

She continues touching his shoulder as she touches her amulet; it glows red and energy begins crackling from it. They both glow and are whisked away to the underground of Kotal Kahn's city.

Cao finds himself in a familiar place: the tunnels near his home. The entrance is no longer blocked by the large stone.

He runs inside to find his bed broken, but Sanra's was not damaged. Hua is by her side. She looks up at him as he enters and her eyes brighten, as does her face with a wide smile.

"CAO!" she cries as she runs to him, hugging him tightly. Despite all that has happened Cao smiles and hugs her back, falling onto his knees to hold her just as tightly. "You're safe! I'm so happy you're safe!"

Cao hugs his sister some more and nods. "That's right. And I got the medicine for Sanra. She'll be okay."

He looks over Hua's shoulder at Nitara, who lingers in the darknes of the hall. She nods once before vanishing, likely heading off to finish the potion.

"How has Sanra been?" he asks, looking over at her. She is pale and breathing slowly and appears to be asleep.

"Cold," Hua answers sadly. "But awake sometimes. She keeps saying how sleepy and cold she is."

"Has she been eating? Or drinking?"

"I keep her fed and drinking," she says, "but she doesn't like it..."

Cao nods and touches Sanra's hand. She's cold and hard to the touch, not unlike a corpse. But she's alive, and that's what's important for now.

"What about Nitara," Cao says after a moment. "What did she do while I was gone?"

"She was nice," Hua says. "But scary at first... I thought she was another monster coming to take Sanra away. But she said she wanted to help and kept other people away and brought stuff for us, like a blanket for me and stuff to make Sanra comfy."

Cao listens and considers this information. Nitara kept her word... She even did more than he asked, bringing gifts for Hua.

"Did she ever touch you?" he asks, slightly suspicious of the vampire.

"I showed her our home here and she moved the rocks. She's really strong! I hugged her after but that's all..." she says.

"Huh..." he trails off. He looks over and sees the table Sanra would sit and read at. Her books survived... as did the money he stole from Kaito!

He moves over to the bag and opens it, finding all the koins he took still there. 'Maybe she's not so bad,' he thinks to himself. 'Or... maybe she's just trying to get in closer. Lull us into a false sense of security...'

Cao sits down next to Hua and starts to tell her of his journey. She listens with rapt attention, amazed at the story. She's always loved reading about adventures and she grows more and more excited with Cao's tale of action, terror and suspense. He leaves out any unnecessary details, like his meeting with General Blade and any time he got hurt.

She's completely drawn into the story and cheers at its conclusion, hugging her brother and complimenting his heroism. He tussles her hair a bit, his ego inflated by her admiration of him.

At that moment, Nitara comes back, entering with a wooden cup that is steaming. Cao stands up as she kneels next to Sanra and places it gently to her lips, leaning her head back. She slowly pours the liquid into Sanra's mouth, giving her time to swallow it all.

"How long?" Cao asks when it is all done.

"A day," Nitara replies. "She needs some rest in order for the affliction to leave her system. Her warmth will return and her body will restore itself. Then she will be the same as you knew her."

Cao looks down at Sanra as Hua holds her hand. He looks back up at Nitara, who indicates the doorway; she wants to talk to him outside.

He follows her out into the dark halls where she turns back to him. "So?" she says.

He lets out a sigh. "Thank you. But until I see Sanra up and about, I won't know that it worked."

"It worked," she promises him. "Your sister will be alive and well. Is that all I'm going to get? A thank you?"

She raises a brow and offers him a smile.

A bit wary of doing so, but he does it anyway, Cao opens up his arms and moves close to her for a hug. She's a bit surprised, but pleased with this latest turn of events. She presses herself against him and wraps her arms around his back, before doing the same with her large wingspan, enshrouding them both. "I knew you'd come around..." she whispers in her ear.

Cao swallows nervously. She's surprisingly warm to the touch, with smooth skin and cool breath on his neck. He sweats a little.

"I truly am glad you are alright, you know," she says. "I know not what happened to you on your journey, but I would have been saddened by the loss of my future travel partner."

"Y-yeah," he stammers, avoiding eye contact with her so close.

"You seem different," she says, leaning down to subtly smell his skin. "Something in the air around you... A realization, perhaps? You discovered something since we parted... And there is blood on you. Not all your own." She looks back into his eyes, drawing them to hers. "You have tasted it... the blood of others through battle. You are becoming something you were always meant to be..." She brings up a hand and cups his face.

"What does this mean?" he asks, remembering his encounter in the Living Forest. "What is happening? Can you sense it?"

"I am not blessed with such perfect sight of the future," she says. "But your blood has begun to change. Your heart has raced in fear before, but now it pumps blood with determination, excitement, strength you never knew you had." She smiles. "I wonder, what could have brought this about?"

Nitara lets go of him as he sits along the wall and she across from him. He tells her of all that happened from the moment he was teleported, but much like Hua, he leaves out his meeting and deal with General Blade and his encounter in the forest. Nitara listens to every word, curious as to the Earthrealmer presence in Outworld. He tells her of the vehicle raiders, then the encounter with the amazons before fighting Zara and finally the last chase of the three armies before it ended with the OWEA.

She is impressed with the tale, to say the least. "My, my, I never expected so much would happen," she says as she fixes her eyes upon him. "Tell me, though... these girls from Earthrealm, what did you think of them?"

"They were nice," he replies.

"That's not quite what I meant," she says with a sultry smile. "Did you find them beautiful? When you laid with them in the tent, what did you think?"

"I... uh," he says, trailing off as she begins to slowly move towards him on all fours, wings spread low and eyes predatory. "They were..."

"Well?" she says, leaning into his ear. "Tell me... did they rob me of something I desire?"

She licks his ear then and he reacts visibly, shying away from her. "Ah... I see they didn't. Good." She reaches over and turns his face. "Tell me, Cao, don't you think you deserve more of a reward than a kiss on the cheek?"

Before he can reply, she's on him fully, pressing her lips against his. Cao's words are muffled a bit as she forces him down to the ground, her mouth moving in tandem with her tongue to allow her ease of access to his mouth. He knows he should fight this, fight her, that he said he didn't want any further advances from her, but yet he's practically melting into her embrace, welcoming her warm, soft body against his own.

Cao pulls away from her as she sits and looks at him, studying his response. He's a bit sheepish. "I should be with my sister," he says softly. "I want to be there when she wakes up."

Nitara's eyes drift away. "Oh... Very well." She sounds almost a bit disappointed. "Again, then."

Cao pauses. "What do you mean by that?"

"I have preparations to make," she says, standing up and stepping into the shadows. "I will return when it is time for us to leave."

"What about---"

She vanishes into the shadows, and a moment later, a flock of bats emerges and flies past him. Cao shields his face and looks around when they are out of sight and earshot. Strange...

Cao stays with his sister. Hua leaves for some time to get food and water with he koins he stole from Kaito. He sleeps with his arm around his sister as she reads him a book about dragons, which makes him a bit uncomfortable.

He awakens in the morning when Sanra stirs, coughing a bit. He and Hua both spring to her side and help her sit up. "Cao...? Hua...? What happened?"

They both hug her and Cao's heart swells with happiness and relief. Sanra smiles and hugs them back.

Cao takes the time to tell her what happened. Sanra can't believe he went through all that trouble for her.

"Cao... I don't know what to say," she says as he finishes his story. "That's amazing."

"You're my sister," he says, holding her hand. He looks over and holds Hua's as well. "I'd go to the end of the world for you guys."

Hua smiles but then both of them stop and look at Sanra as tears well up in her eyes and she sniffles. She thows her arms around Cao and hugs him tightly, trying to stop herself from sobbing. "Sanra? What's wrong?" he asks, holding her gently.

Between tears, she says, "When mom left, before she... She told me to watch over you. To keep you safe. And now, look at you..." she pulls away and puts her forehead against his. "All grown up and now you're the one going out to protect me." She wipes her tears a bit as she and Cao hug while Hua watches.

"I'm so sorry," she says, "for making you go through all of that..."

"No. I would've done it and I'd do it again if I had to..." he says.

He considers telling them about his deal with General Blade. About a chance to go to a new world... But part of him keeps those thoughts at bay. He thinks he should get the hammer and helmet first and secure his way to Earthrealm for him and his sisters before telling them.

Cao tells Sanra to get rest, and for her body to heal. He instructs Hua to make sure she has plenty of water and to use the money however it is needed. He holds them both close and tells them he loves them and that their fortunes will soon change for the better.

And then he leaves for the streets, heading to Kotal Kahn's palace. Using the holographic device from Kano, he assumes a disguise and walks through the streets towards the zigurrat.

Having learned how to use the device before, Cao is now much more careful. Taking on the appearance of a guard, he heads towards the temple, careful to avoid touching anyone so as not to disturb the hologram.

He walks past the main gate and into the temple, quickly and with purpose, so as not to seem suspicious.

He knows that Shao Kahn's hidden chambers are somewhere below, but he knows not where to start looking.
