Apparently your possession of Yui-niji-chan has some side effects; her hair has become long and black, a wreath of heavy mist floats at the back of her neck like a ceremonial ribbon, her eyes are now a stormy grey color, and she seems to have acquired some....hmn. Perkiness. You'll go with that. Anyways....

You were, on some level, aware that Yui-niji-chan saw things ~differently~ than everyone else. How different has become glaringly obvious to you now, as rather than the dull grey of a Barrier, the world is vibrantly lit, and it's not the fires which are doing so. The spiritual world colors everything she looks at here, and your loved ones are perfectly recognizable, despite the fact that they don't look anything like themselves at all. For instance, Kiki-hime is a beautiful dragon the color of pink sunsets and her horns and claws are polished wood. Her eyes are the striking violet-red of a sunset, and her pearl is pure white, gleaming under her throat; the bow she has sends arrows seething with life at her target, who either burns them or deflects them; she's still inexperienced, but she's desperately trying. Gecko-like, her little sister is a brilliant golden dragon with a scarlet main that tapers to a length of fur along her entire back. Her glowing eyes are molten pools of metal, and her pearl shimmers upon her forehead, a dusty rose sphere that is nearly the size of your – uh, Yui's – fist. She's hardly four feet long and she unleashes a barrage of brilliant white hot flames from her gaping jaws.

It's Oni time!?

Akari is a gleaming black scaled serpent, with elongated limbs and possessed of terrifying claws of jade. Her crimson eyes mark her target as she grasps a massive chuck of rubble before spinning once to hurl it at her adversary. The chipped jade horns and nubs along her back taper to a deadly nest of sharp spines at the tip of her tail, while her gleaming silver pearl shines brightly. Even as she moves, the ghostly spectre of a massive, twisted oni moves with her, mimicking perfectly her every move and expression. As if that wasn't enough, Yuuhi looks exactly as you've seen her once before – a terrifying spectral fox-person, her eyes and hair infused with Ghost Flame. You were cursed or poisoned at the time, but the memory is vivid. She leaps, her blade flashing as she moves in to attack, ghost fire streaming around her and her weapon alike.

Looking at Inau-kun is like looking at Amaterasu-Omikami, save not nearly as overwhelming. Her tattoos float above her shining skin, her elegant, slim build even more so, her hair white as silk. She is unconscious, but in Yui's eyes, her delicacy and strength are still unmatched, and her burned bow and broken ogata-katana still smolder fitfully. Yui can see she's deeply hurt, but she'll live for some time without medical aid; and that's good because you have one more visage to behold.

Ah-sama is a burning red beast of an oni-child, her fangs curved outward and jutting from her lower jaw. You can't tell if she's transformed or not, because Yui's eyes see her only as an oni-child of fire. She's surrounded by flames, and she whips her tetsubo around and smashes the rubble that Akari hurled to pieces, sending them flying towards your loved ones. Kiku's flames disintegrate them before anyone is struck, and while everyone save Kiki-hime and Akari is injured, only Inau-kun is seriously hurt. The tattoos along her body move like living things, and she laughs wickedly, her burning eyes piercing illusion and reality alike.

With Mikimoto Island in ruins, the buildings battered and unsafe to be near, the gardens aflame, and the walkways and courtyard littered with rubble, the temple is intact, the spectral dragon that coils around it shimmering, a think of pure spirit and absolute majesty. Not an Owatatsumi, but what Yui sees as a kind of guardian dragon, perhaps one of the ones referred to by Er Yin as 'pan lung'. No matter how bad the island itself is damaged, the dragon protects the temple utterly, though it clearly will not fight otherwise.

What a fucking mess. It will be minutes before Oh-sama reaches the Barrier, and Akari has really outdone herself this time as well. With a Fire oni-child and a Fire-dragonette in battle, though, minutes can last forever. Knowing what Yui knows helps, but it's not exactly instant comprehensive understanding; she's a deep and complex person, no simple oni-child at all.

While you have Yui's memories and can access her powers, you don't know them as instinctively as she does. One extremely interesting thing is that while it's her body and her powers, it's YOUR shen that you have access to, and while you're burning some just being in possession of Yui, you've got more than enough to run a full set of Barrier Techniques to use. Not that it won't leave you just as exhausted of course; but everything counts at this moment.

Yui's powers are a complex mish-mash of abilities; Calling Up Clouds both for riding and rain, Thunder-Drumming, Throwing Lightning, and Messing With Cell Reception are the ones that are obvious and you are familiar with. But there's more complicated things here as well. Taming Winds, for instance, isn't simply controlling them, it's enticing their assistance in your endeavors, like they were living allies. Her Barrier techniques, of course, she's familiar with, and like you were with yours she doesn't necessarily know what they all do, which is troublesome. She has a set of Bunraku masks that allow her to disguise herself among various types of spirit children, including youkai-born and demigods. Here she has The Ten Curses Of Breaking; each one affects a particular type of household object – walls, mirrors, decorative rocks (which doesn't work on rubble or non-decorative stone, oddly), bonsai trees, chairs, tables, water features (really?), chop sticks, plates, and one that is specifically for making cracks in windows without shattering them.

You always wondered how they did that.

Magical tools, she has plenty of. Her taiko sticks and drums, of course, but more wrappings for chest, arms and legs as well. There's a warding and warfare fan, a set of oni-steel chains, a meteor hammer with the end being a Chinese monk's spade (where does she get this stuff?), a wok with a lid that is big enough to put Kiku-chan in, a half dozen bags of rice, twelve massive pots of sake, a drinking gourd that is loaded with some of the foulest oni-liquor in the Heavens, and a plethora of sharp things to throw, hit, and stab people with. There's a straw hat as well, and a set of treatises on the proper conduct of servants, Journey to the West, Journey to the North (what?), the collected tales of Ongejin (whoever that is), and a half dozen talismans of Yui's own design to work against modern devices.

Yui's got some weird shit up her sleeves.

Crouching, and making yourself seem harmless, you look over at Kiki-hime, the beautiful sunset dragon that she is in Yui's eyes. She's nocked another arrow, her power infusing both bow and projectile, and taking careful aim. Yanking Yui's war-fan from ~Nowhere~ you flick it open and hide your face with it, calling on the Void to hide you as you hide yourself. It's child's logic, but for Yui-niji-chan, that logic works as you are of no import to anyone in battle at the moment. Flexing soft, delicate hands you pulls at the winds, tickling them, teasing them. Whispering gentle words to them in their native tongue, you implore, beseech, threaten and cajole, and the swirl over to your princess, surrounding her arrow and bow, buffeting her hair.

When she lets go the shaft she looks disappointed, the wobbling, weaving thing clearly damaged in some way to her thinking. But with her power and the Winds you teased into obedience, the shaft flying true – in a way. Rather than lodging in the oni-child's chest, it swirls around the swirls of fire Oh-sama sweeps towards the arrow and it lodges in her belly deep. Oh-sama isn't the only one shocked by the shot either – just about everyone is amazed that she hit. Oh-sama stands atop the wrecked wall, aghast at the arrow sticking in her belly.

You take the fan and draw it across your body, exchanging the clothing that Yui-niji-chan is wearing for clothing you've prepared for her (and haven't put in your closet because EVERYONE'S FUCKIN' BOTHERING YOU!) and using Yui's abilities with the Void replacing it instantly (she has no idea how cool that is, you're sure of it!). It's rather tight across the chest, but otherwise it is extremely classy. Of course that also drops the sort-of-not-really invisibility you had going.

Thank fully everyone is distracted as all heaven. That gives you time to call up a cloud and leap onto it even as it races for Inau-kun. Grabbing her in passing you fly to where Kiki-hime is standing on the bare branches of a half-burned tree. That gets everyone's attention, except of course Akari's, who notices anyways. “Make it bloom,” you whisper to her, even as she struggles to come to terms with what she is seeing.

“EH!?”

And hearing. Um. Apparently you speak with your voice. Which kind of makes sense, since a herald is technically supposed to speak in her master's voice. You just didn't think it meant, like, literally.

You flick the fan open and wave it, increasing the volume of your voice exponentially. “So terribly sorry, Ah-sama! I defeated your sister, and we made a deal! She's even now on her way to inform you of it!”

The chorus of shocked voices at your announcement is amusing, but Kiki quickly steps onto the cloud, kneeling behind you/Yui, and making herself a smaller target, as she's been taught. “In the mean time, I'm getting the injured out of your way; I suggest you reconsider your options, because if you don't....” Kiki's concentration pays off and Ah-sama screams as the arrow turns into a wickedly thorned bramble and starts growing. “You'll be in serious trouble when I get back!”

Ah-sama sets herself on fire to combat the growing bramble-vines, but Kiki-hime is doing very very best to force the growth, just as she had when she was training with Yui. Ah-sama has experience on her though, and it isn't long before the bright beacon dies down. But it's too late....you're at the threshold of the temple, the great dragon gazing down at you. It's kind of unnerving.

Kiki jumps up and hugs you tight, forcing you to move Inau-kun out of harms way. “Careful, she's injured!” you admonish gently; because Kiki is starting to cry.

“I was so worried for you and then the oni-child attacked us and she said you were going to be eaten alive and....and....” She sobs softly, apparently unconcerned that you've possessed yui-niji-chan. You hug her one armed, and then gently disentangle yourself form her.

Laying Inau-kun on the ground you study her with Void Eyes, seeing the damage to her body in terms you now understand perfectly though Yui-niji-chan's understanding of what you are looking at. She's bleeding internally, but it's a slow bleed, one you can take care of quickly in person, but won't be fatal for hours yet. Of more concern are her broken ribs, and the deep burns along her arms. They're not like Er Yin's but they're bad enough they'll need special care.

Standing up you cup your wife's cheeks, blinking at the very weird sensation of looking her straight in the eyes for the first time ever. Yes, she's a dragon, but still! “Kiki-hime, you've been very brave, and very strong. But I'm here now, and it's time to let me do my duty.” She nods, sniffling softly, as you rise up on your tip-toes, placing a soft, gentle kiss on her....

Totally tastes like cherries. And that's just her skin. You can't imagine what she'd – LATER! Other important things now!

Your lips leave her forehead and she gazes at you with glowing sunset and cloud eyes. “Take Inau-kun into the temple. You'll both be-” The dragon rears up and the coils tighten as Kiki's eyes wide at what's behind you. Your reactions aren't as fast as they would be if you were yourself, but Yui-niji-chan is no slouch. More importantly, you not using her magic for this – you're using her power and yours for this. Because if you use magic you'd be in deep shit.

The immense blast of flame rolls towards you but you sweep the fan to the side, calling on the element you're most familiar with in Yui's body. The Wind explodes away from you and the flames crash around all three of you, only to cascade off of the coils of the guardian dragon. “WHAT THE FUCKING KAMIDAMNED SHIT WAS THAT, YOU CONNIVING LITTLE CUNT!?” You flick the fan closed and twirl it over, exchanging it for a taiko stick....which you then flip over and end up with two taiko sticks in one hand.

Void eyes active, it's obvious that she's already entered the first tier of Barrier Combat, apparently the source of that wash of flame. You've actually burned through enough Shen that you can manage - just barely – all four of Yui's tiers, and you'll have some left over....but Yui has enough for another ~three~ tiers after that!

If that's even possible. You haven't the foggiest idea of you could stack the forms of Barrier Combat like that. You don't think anyone has ever had the bizarre combination of situations arise where it might be possible to begin with.

You didn't expect her to recoil from your grin; she's an oni-child herself, using Barrier Combat, and she's strong to Yui-niji-chan's element. Of course, Akari is positioning herself behind Ah-sama now, while Kiku-chan and Yuuhi-chan are taking up the left and right respectively, a triangle of death and destruction on a level rarely seen. “Look closer, Ah-sama! I'm not Ryuu Yui at all!” Her eyes blaze and she starts to speak but you interrupt. “Since I couldn't come personally to tell you I've defeated your sister, I had to step up my game and have my herald do the duty for me!”

You let the winds coalesce around you, as Kiki scrambles back, pulling Inau-kun with her. Shifting your hands slightly you grind the two taiko sticks together, making the emit a sharp CHIRP....and simultaneously dousing every fire in the area by sucking the air from them, leaving you standing in the glow of the guardian dragon of the temple.

It's interesting how Yui can see the faint twitches, the restless movements of her power influencing her body and her spirit at the same time. No wonder she's almost never surprised by anyone except you. And Yuuhi, perhaps. You don't let your gaze wander, you just soak every aspect of her body and power that you can into Yui's remarkable mind.

She and Akari really were made for one another.

Ah-sama grinds her teeth, her anger and rage, not to mention her pain and irritation, surging in waves through her body. The thunderous crash of someone assaulting the Barrier from outside causes....well, no one facing off at the moment to flinch. Kiki and Inau, maybe, not that you're going to check. Yui, if she hadn't been possessed by you, probably.

Ah-sama realizes it's her sister. If her sister enters the Barrier, she can't claim ignorance or disregard the oath. She knows it, she knows you suspect it. So you buy a few seconds more.

You flick one taiko stick to the open hand, and whirl them both. Ah-sama doesn't make a move, curiosity getting the better of her. So she's totally unprepared when you slam the butt ends of the taiko sticks together, creating a massive shockwave....centered on yourself.

It shatters the pavement at your feet and shimmers around you, a sphere of thunder and wind that would tear anyone but you/Yui apart. You stand there and you cast out into the void, which DOES make her flinch.

She starts to speak, but the other half of your plan goes off without a hitch, as the voices and shouts of the people around you rush back into the grey, lifeless world that Yui sees. You stand up and tuck the taiko sticks away, pulling your long hair back in the ocean breeze, smiling sweetly at Ah-sama's helpless anger.

Singing for Akari-niji-chan drop the Barrier soon after you tossed the taiko stick to your empty hand was something of a stroke of genius, if you do say so yourself.

Your power fades, and with it your ability to hold onto poor Yui's unconscious mind and body. Kiki-hime is there to catch her/you as you fall back, the world darkening around you as you smile up at her, Yui's waking mind wondering at your presence with her, shy and flattered; she is equally overwhelmed your wife's beauty and kindness as she brings Yui-niji-chan down to the ground as best she can, calling on every ounce of strength she has to help support the massively heavy oni-child.
