Welcome to A Song of Revenge and Gold: House Malroy Quest. In which you take the reins of a House of storied glorious past since Aegon’s Conquering, but whose fortunes have taken a turn for the worse in the doom that Robert’s Rebellion brought. Taking place in 284AC a year after the Rebellion has ended you are Brynden Malroy, second son to Lord Vamos Malroy and Lady Esemella Hayford and the last living heir to Steadhold and House Malroy.

House Malroy is a pre-genned House designed around the idea of a story within the Crownlands of a House fiercely loyal to the Targaryens and their attempts to live in this new world after Robert’s Rebellion. The new Lord Brynden Malroy is as well pre-genned but will take direction from the players in his ways and how he develops himself further. This Quest will be moderately more story driven than others of its kind, but the development of the House and her lands will take just as much importance.

If you’ve played one of the many Quests within the ASoIaF setting the rules of the SIFRP system should be known. I will be using the Game of Thrones edition, as well as a few of the expansions namely OOSP and a few house rules which will be explained as we come to them. If you have questions about how things work or why certain actions are taken I can explain them as we go along. In truth this is a learning experience for me as well.

And now without further ado.
>>
The ride home had been significantly shorter than it had been to King’s Landing. Little reason to hide yourself now, so you pressed forward through day and night, often finding yourself dozing in the saddle as your horse carried on by itself. Come to the evening of the second day Steadhold stood in the horizon, the western sky painted purple with the setting sun, you were more than tired of being in the saddle but dug into your horse all the same, the sudden urgency in your stomach propelling you forward. Upon your chest sat the two edicts, two very important documents that would determine the near future more than ever. Your chest pocket felt loose for once, not tight against your breast, a noted absence of Isis’ braid reminding you to keep eyes forward. No longer dwelling upon the past. Thoughts that only fueled the fire in your heart.

Entering through Kingsgate you take a moment to admire Steadhold. She was a far cry still from your childhood memories, but all the same she looked better than the decrepit form you saw not a year past. The outer wall had scaffolding around the worst of the broken down areas, pile of imported stone sat about, chips and pieces of the old wall loading into wagons to be disposed of later. The tower closest to Kingsgate had been smashed cleanly through, but looked to be in a better state of late, though all the same likely a lower priority. Goldgate and her side of the wall closest to the Blackwater Rush was getting the most attention as of right now, upon your order. Should someone wish to attack you it meant either going all the way around to find another suitable bridge to cross closer to the God’s Eye or coming directly along the Goldroad to your front door. Either way it was likely you would be alerted and ready. The Freys weren’t the only one with an important bridge, your House just weren’t so on the nose about it.
>>
Passing further into the outer ring of Steadhold you slow to look over where the port once stood, still a burnt out husk, most of it had been at the very least demolished over the past year, the small district of homes, warehouses and markets in the area not entirely dissimilar. It still sat heavy in your heart to know Isis’ first visit home in years would be to see Steadhold in such a state. In the back of your mind you make a small promise to yourself to have done better when you bring her home for certain and good. It isn’t long before your presence is noticed, the Jons of The Loyal Bows coming to greet and escort you to the castle proper. You were home ahead of schedule, something to be explained later, for now you had business, urgent and pressing. You swing off the little brown horse give her a pat and allowing Grey Jon to lead her off and sending Red Jon after Mors the Marsher. It was time to assemble your war council, the Princewood would be yours again and there was little time to waste. You enter the foyer of the castle, being greeted by Jonos, Olyver and Worsh of the guard. Snapping quick orders off to gather Ser Lucas Longwaters, Rafe Roper, and Dusky Danse they scatter, and you continued along your determined warpath.

“Brynden? What are you doing back so soon? Is Solhas with you, the hunt?” you hear Mason’s voice call, his evening walk with Elionwy clearly being interrupted by the sight of you as you enter the great hall.

“I’ll explain later Mason,” you respond quickly, pulling the edicts from your pocket and pressing them into his hands, “Read.”

“I thought we were past this Brynden,” Mason jests, reminding you of every embarrassing moment where reading was a task.

“Read, Mason,” you repeat fixing him with a level gaze before returning to your determined stride. He kisses Elionwy on the cheek before falling into step behind you, admiring the golden seal of the Crown and reading quickly.
>>
“A thousand troops? Brynden this is incredible, that’s enough to be threatening, we can match Royce now,” Mason says with elation in his voice before falling into the second edict, his voice a mere whisper of disbelief, “They took the Princewood from him.”

“And we’re going to take it back,” you state simply, turning on heel upon the upper dial. The great hall was currently having dinner, smatterings of people here and there, no one of great import. They had begun to leave as you crossed the great hall, clearly aware you were on some sort of mission and not particularly wishing to be caught in the warpath. You fold your arms behind your back and Mason looks to you after rereading the edicts again.

“I’ll gather Benjin and Vargar Sorrios,” Mason says with a quick nod, “Brynden… Are we finally going to war?”

“Yes,” comes your uncle’s voice from behind you, your own response choking in your throat. Dontos’ heavy step indicates he is in full armor, likely having been training in the yard and noticed the commotion of your arrival. He places a hand on your shoulder and Mason hands him the edicts before leaving off to fetch the rest of your Captains and Maester.

---

You stand in a circle around a tall round table of little ornament, to your right Dontos Malroy, the Black Knight. Your left Maester Benjin and Ser Mason Flowers. In front of you directly is Mors the Marsher, his black longbow slung over his shoulder as he peeled an apple, his voice the only noise in the quiet hall as the rest of your war council arrived. A deep baritone in a low rasping song.

“You can hear their footsteps,
Crush the fresh-felt snow...”

Rafe Roper and Dusky Danse arrive, taking their positions. Rafe’s old golden cloak sweeps around him in quick step behind the tall lumbering step of your brother’s old friend of Duskendale.

“You can hear them beasting,
Oh, tell me where’s my Crow…”
>>
Vargar Sorrios comes next, the Myrman’s step not as spry as it once was and reminding you of how short he was, a fool would call him a dwarf. He takes up position next to Mason, and takes a quick drink from his hip flask nodding to you.

“Harping every Armory,
Sharpening their Blades…”

Ser Lucas Longwaters enters last, the smile dances upon his face as he chatters with his own man Ser Haldan Rambton who follows after him. You remember the fateful meeting with the two Knights months past in King’s Landing. The friendship earned. The journey since. Lucas still wears the favor his Lady wife had given him as he won your Melee, the ribbons of gray and crimson resting upon the hilt of his sword.

“I pray for every one of them,
And sacrifices made.”

Looking over your assembled Captains you can’t help but feel a swell of pride. Soon their numbers would be more impressive, your men outfitted with the best. The army of House Malroy would be something to fear again. Not a forgotten wisp of its former self. Royce Redward would know what fear is. He would know the breadth of your wroth. A year of wait, but soon, so very soon.

“They come down,
They come down the Wall.
They come down,
They come down the Wall…”

Your captains all look to you, Mors’ voice trailing off as your assembled War Council comes to order. Benjin delves into the specifics, his words far more practiced than your own, as he reads through the edicts. A small curl of a small forming on the corner of his lips as he reads Saul Compton’s name and continues on. Upon finishing the edict declaring the Princewood basically open season the table breaks into argument. Many wishing to march immediately, others voicing caution.
>>
Danse and Rafe both indicate a need to work with the Chelsted’s as your number simply were not large enough at the moment, and Dontos uneasily agrees. Lucas, Haldan, and Vargar all call for arms immediately, stating it would be nothing to raze the bandits from their hiding holes, and we’d have little reason to work with the Chelsteds. Benjin cautions against rash actions, Mors and Mason both agreeing with him, the former offering to send The Loyal Bows to scout the area beforehand. It was highly unlikely Royce would be giving up his old lands without a fight, further unlikely that he would be taking all of his bandits with him. Particularly as the edicts basically reduced him to a third of his former size.

The thought still brought a comfort to your mind, the Crown was losing faith in him, but were certainly not deciding to place it in your House instead. Alongside the Princewood, Royce had lost another war prize, that had formerly belonged to House Chelsted, the lightly forest area of the Princewood further to the southwest. No doubt they would like to have that piece back as much as you would like the Princewood back, but you did not need work with the Chelsteds, the edict stated these lands were entirely open, at least for the six months grace period you had been given. As your idle thoughts swirl, your men continue to argue, pointing to the map of the Crownlands before you, but are all called to order by Dontos’ heavy stomp, their eyes turning to you and form resuming. You had expected at least a degree of this, your war council had never properly met before, but now was a better time than ever.

So, how would we like to approach retaking the Princewood?

>Attack immediately, the Princewood is valuable land
>Delay, you have six months, better to go in prepared, informed, and with a larger army

House Chelsted?
>Work with them
>Do not

>Suggestions on tactics, plans, etc.? Open to all thoughts, discuss a little if you like.
>>
Some notes.

Mind you will not be able to begin anything until after the Wedding, as Royce has a grace period of a month to remove his assets from his former Domains, and of course the Wedding is going to be far too large of an affair to begin anything during, outside of recon and small movements. Your grace period begins immediately afterwards, in Month III. Another reminder, as of right now you have 410 men. Another 100 in a single unit of infantry from House Longwaters. And another 100 from House Qorgyle in 3 units of Light Cavalry and 2 units of Heavy Cavalry on the way.

Christ that was a big OP.
>>
Hey father, welcome back.

Note: we need to move asap. Make it well known we are moving into the area, and just recruit infantry to pad out our numbers. Green as goose shit will work fine in quantity while our elites do the heavy lifting.

Now back to reading the OP...

>Attack immediately, the Princewood is valuable land

If we strike now they wont have enough time to plan anything.

>Work with them

>Suggestions on tactics, plans, etc.? Open to all thoughts, discuss a little if you like.

Get men to the area scout the area out, search and destroy. See if we cant get help from the locals. They will no doubt have information not to mention supplies.

Also hire more troops. Gurrelia can be used as scouts and fighting unit even better since it will be in a forest. Since there is a month for it to happen we do have time to recruit more men.

Nice to see you run on this lovely Sunday Father.
>>
>>45779317
>>Delay, you have six months, better to go in prepared, informed, and with a larger army
>>Work with them

I feel like I know that song.
>>
>>45779404
>Nice to see you run on this lovely Sunday Father.

Yeah yeah I know. I'm awful at weekends lately.
>>
>>45779317
>>Delay, you have six months, better to go in prepared, informed, and with a larger army
Scout out the entire princewood. Get an estimation of where they have camps.

>Work with the Lady Chelsted. Deny Chyytering as much as we can.
>>
>>45779453
>>45779412
Wouldnt waiting not just give them time to prepare, leave more "suprises" and "bandits" around ?
>>
>>45779317
>Attack immediately, the Princewood is valuable land

Hit and run with the sons. Make life hell, meanwhile our more regular troops move in to gather info from the small folk.

>Work with them

Chelsted should be offered aid in retaking their lands, pitch it as us helping them, that way even if events turn south on us they have no recourse to claim some of our old lands.
>>
>>45779511
Could promise them in return for help we will marry our firstborn daughter to her son and we will cover the dowry for her marriage with Dontos ?

Think that is a pretty sweet deal
>>
>>45779496
Yes it might but remember he has a grace period to get his men out of the princewood. We use that to scout the woods thoroughly and constantly badger him with Ravens asking where his men where and where they set things up in the princewood. After that anything not small folk in there gets killed.
>>
>>45779563
Don't promise what we aint got anon.
>>
>>45779575
If we get any.
>>45779565
I really dont like it. Six months is a long time. A lot can happen. I'd rather strike while the iron is hot
>>
>>45779565
So your plan to troll royce with birds asking if hes sure he removed all his men?
>>
>>45779434
Its okay Father. I still love you.
>>
>>45779317
>>Attack immediately, the Princewood is valuable land

>Work with them
>>
>>45779575
We could also inform her that we know a Chyttering has been in contact with Royce.

We know that from our sister.
>>
>>45779599
I think it's just a month grace period.

>>45779600
Pretty much anything not declared by him will be a bandit and if he kicks up a fuss about it where did they come from Royce? Also if he refuses our requests I'm pretty sure Arryn is coming to the wedding we can just go visit him with the Hand when Isis has to go back and scout his land at the same time as having Arryn brow beat him again.
>>
Alright so it looks like we're definitely looking to work with House Chelsted, as expected. Lady Alexes will be pleased.

A small split on when to attack, but leaning towards immediately. I see some want to do some recon and the like regardless, but I will warn if you attack immediately your information will be lacking because they'll need to do a rush job. But I suppose that's the risk you take.

Otherwise some smatterings of suggestions of troop deployments. Nothing really concrete yet.

We'll go with those two options and can work on troops deployment up until that's important. We still have a wedding and small tourney to get through before that operation begins.
>>
>>45779694
Now info is a good bargining chip.
Really we need this alliance to pan out.

By the way, the wedding is in a few months, but we have 6 to clear the place out.

Who thinks our dornish allies from the brother in law might like a spot of bandit hunting?
>>
>>45779729
Recruiting more men?
>>
>>45779745
We'll be getting to House Fortunes after this and a Dontos scene. So yes, very likely recruit more troops.
>>
>>45779745
I'd say that should be our main focus in the next house roll
>>
>>45779767
REMINDER WE NEED MORE WEALTH TO PAY FOR BENJIN TO BE ARCH-MEASTER.
>>
Honestly I think we should try to fake him out, make it seem like we're going to delay for a while so Royce thinks he can afford to leave some of his men behind to extract that last bit of wealth/enslave a few more villages and then rush in the exact moment he's supposed to have all his men out so we can kill them with the excuse they're CLEARLY bandits.
>>
>>45779737
Hunting trips are a staple of good parties after all.

>>45779694
I also agree with this
>>
>>45779791
Agreed. That is a priority. Wealth and power(?) needed.

>>45779812
Of course. Just a shame the quarry will be inedible.
>>
Looking over it we need 18 lands for the Roads to be built on the Point which will take a year and a half to complete. That might be something we should try to get as well.
>>
>>45779737
I guess if we could convice our dornish allies to join i would be willing to wait.
>>
>>45779884
We can do raiding with the sons in the meantime.

We need to get in there before he has chance to remove evidence of what his men have been doing.
>>
>>45779911
Aye that is true.
>>
>>45779911
We preform harrasing raids while establishing contact with the locals ?
>>
>>45779956
Pretty much.

The longer we wait, the longer the bastard has to clean up remenant slaves and evidence to cover his tracks. Patcience is all well and good, but we can not afford to let him have time. Hit and run will work well while our main force musters and moves out in the official groups.
>>
>>45779911
Ask Elionwy if she can get people in his lands?
Brynden's betrothed the same?
>>
>>45779911
before that first month is up that'll probably give Royce an opprotunity to bring charges against us or a casus belli or whatnot. We can scout though, and if we find anyone actively in the process of serious wrongdoing it'd probably be worth the consequences for the evidence.
>>
>>45779993
Also to note: if we do this spontaniously, and right now, his spy has no time to send off a warning.
>>
>>45779956
yes, good idea

>>45779993
Raiding gets two birds with one stone, both hitting them immediately and recon in force
>>
>>45780004
Depends.

I doubt Royce will defend us attacking a group equiped with slaver gear. Infact i expect him to write off any such group we hit within the first month as bandits to try cover his own ass.

hit the right targets and we will be fine.
>>
>>45780029
I swear smth is wrong with my 4chan's name field

>>45780016
Giving her time to send off a warning might be a good idea. That way we can catch her, raiding now will tell him that we are going to come in force soon anyways.
>>
>>45780037
No he'll probably treat them as quantum bandits that he has nothing to do with until the moment we fight them and suddenly we're killing his men within his one month grace period in violation of the crown.
>>
>>45780053
Raiding now has no real downsides so long as we are smart about it.

The spy can be lured out in other ways. I suggest we work with the spiders spy here and give out unique intel to people in secret from each other, see which piece comes back to us.
>>
>>45780092
Raiding does not mean we just attack any soldiers we come across. Ride out with a party, spy an encampment, see if it has anything like cages or prisoners, attack if it does.

Let no one escape. Don't hit large targets, Don't hit obviously royce millitary.
>>
People please think about this for a moment. He has a month to pull his men from the woods. FROM THE CROWN.I'm all for scouting the woods out and finding anything he doesn't want found but not at the cost of conflict with him DURING the grace month he has to leave.
>>
>>45780203
If you want to wait for a month then fine, scout at least, hit an opportune target if we know we can take it with no risk of reprisal, just dont sit there and let him scrub the place down, or else we will get nothing we can use.

Basically: Don't get caught.
>>
>>45780203
....... True, I didn't even think of that.....

Although I'm still in favor of raiding, it gives us a presence in the forest as well as recon.
>>
“We’ll attack immediately,” you state firmly, whipping the map clean of the small markers before replacing them liberally throughout, “We cannot guess to how many bandits are roaming the Princewood, nor their camps. Mors, I’ll need you and the Loyal Bows to run recon for the next month, do not be seen under any circumstances, gather as much intel from the smallfolk as possible.”

“Aye milord,” Mors responds, his grey eyes meeting yours before turning to the map, “We’ll do a thorough sweep milord. But I dun think we’ll git much in a month.”

“It’ll have to do Mors,” Mason says, pointing towards the Goldroad, “What of the rest Brynden? The Goldroad still tells tales of the highwaymen, no doubt on Royce’s payroll.”

“For now the bulk of our forces will stay home. Lacking any ranged motion at home I’ll need the Arbalesters to state with the Household guard, putting us down 150.”

“But my men will help fill that,” Lucas says, motioning towards Ser Haldan, “As promised. Another line of infantry and we can march down the middle without a worry. Their numbers be damned.”

“Couple with our own Infantry, Cavalry and the Knights that should make for a more than formidable line,” you agree, “The Sons of Gold will need to be dispatched to the Goldroad. They’re the most likely to make first contact, and show that we’re patrolling these roads now.”

“We’ll need more men,” Mason says frowning, “No idea how many highwaymen and checkpoints they’ll have. More horse archers will do us good.”

“The Qorgyles promised men as well didn’t they Brynden?” Dontos asks, clearly already knowing the answer but pointing the information out there regardless, “Perhaps even Lord Quentyn would appreciate an offer of sport? To solidify the alliance.”
>>
You nod with a small smile, snapping up five more horse pieces in your hand and placing them alongside the rest of your army, “Heavy and Light Cavalry. On Dornish Sandsteeds, they’ll just need escorts, and to be carefully in the deep brush of the Princewood. Lord Quentyn would aid us immensely if he was willing to stay, a fair idea Uncle. More than likely our best bet will be to hit and run any encampment we can find. We need to make sure Royce can’t hide anything from us.”

“And of the Chelsteds?”

“We need work with them,” you draw slowly, maneuvering a few pieces of the board towards your soon to be Ally’s domain, “The Princewood is the middle of us both, if we pincer it that’ll force the bandits to either make stupid decisions or funnel south to the outskirts of the Princewood where we can slaughter them in open field.”

“There’s a small town that way,” Rafe speaks up, “My sister lives down there, sheepherders mostly, they might know what’s going on. Milord.”

“A good spot as any to perform recon then,” Dontos says, “Mors, can you send men that way?”

“I can spare the Jons ser,” Mors says after a moment, “Spread thin though milord.”

“Noted Mors. I will do what I can,” you say in an attempt to placate him, to little avail you imagine, his grey eyes look troubled as he looks over the map.

“Any other suggestions?” Dontos asks stroking the dusting of beard he had started to grow of late. The table shakes its head, little else being immediately of note, though all promising to share any thoughts in the future and further agreeing more troops are absolutely necessary in the coming months.

“Thank you all,” you say after a few more minutes of deliberation, “Once the wedding is finished we will begin in earnest. Mors, have your men ready by the end of the week and deploy. Understood?”

“Aye milord.”
>>
“Good,” your eyes sweep the table, the mess of alcohol and maps reminding you of days since past. A quick glance down shows your clothing in disarray, dusty and sweaty all, you looked a sellsword but your words were spoken as a Lord, “Dismissed everyone. Ride unto the Sunset.”

“Ride unto the Sunset!” your collected captains all repeat and break. You find yourself supporting your body with outstretched arms over the round table, eyes focused on the maps, going over them again and again. Benjin had never bothered to update them, so to the fly upon the wall it looked like you were preparing to invade your own land.

“Nephew?” Dontos asks, waiting for you still by your side, “Do you have a moment? A few of the guests for the wedding have arrived early, and there is one I would like for you to meet.”

You cast an odd eye to him and your uncle merely shrugs, a smile on his lips for the first time in a very long time, you respond, “I suppose Uncle. So long as they don’t mind my current state.”

“Hardly. He was in the yard last I checked,” Dontos says with a small chuckle and pounding his breastplate, “Come.”

Following after Dontos you remember a couple items of note from your trip, Isis’ letter to him as well as the news of her visit. And Lady Alexes Chelsted’s request. A small moment to talk of either, the other for later.

>Give Dontos Isis’ letter for him, and tell him she will be attending the wedding
>Tell Dontos about Lady Alexes Chelsted’s request for him to escort her to Steadhold

So basically what's going down is Mors and The Loyal Bows are going to do some rush job recon gathering during Royce's month grace period. There will be a Stealth check later to see if they succeed.

After that we'll start in on some hit and run ops.

And then more than likely do a clean up sweep.

And from there we'll move onto the other domain.

Fuck you Dontos for making us do that to our son!
>>
Deciding to talk with Dontos about Isis in a more private setting you settle upon poking a bit of fun at your uncle. The past few days had been long and hard, the past hour just as humorless, you could use the laugh. Picking through your breast pocket you find Lady Alexes ‘love letter’.

“You you Uncle,” you say with a lazy smile upon your face.

“From?”

“An admirer.”

Dontos stops and flips the letter over, a seal of silver with the crossed mace and dagger of House Chelsted embossed upon it, “Seven protect me,” he mutters under his breath as he opens it.

You wait for a bit as he reads the letter, progressively turning more and more red as he does so, the sweat upon his brow clearly not from working out in the yard anymore. You feel fit to burst, swallowing your laughter the best you can, choking out only a few words, “Well Uncle?”

“Lady Alexes… Wishes for me to escort her? Why? It is not so dangerous-”

“She is but a simple and frail Lady, Uncle. She dreams of a handsome Knight to bear her arm in this arduous journey. To ward off evil. To protect her and hold her close if she should fear.”

“... Did you put her up to this? That woman needs no more protection than a dragon would.”

You continue walking, your Uncle quickly catching up to your step, “I did no such Uncle. She and I had a lovely meeting in King’s Landing as the edicts were put in place. And she requests I deliver the message. And I being the chivalrous-”

“You say another bloody word Brynden.”

You finally succumb to the laughter in your throat, propping yourself up against the doorway to the yard just off the great hall as Dontos stares daggers at you, “So do you accept fair Lady Alexes’ simple request?”

“I don’t have a choice do I?”

“Not for me to say Uncle. Though perhaps Lady Alexes may have some choice words.”
>>
Dontos hangs his head and waves you forward pointing you towards the yard where two young knights in similar colors are fighting in the circle, your own men watching. Beyond them you see the pavilions and decorations beginning to come up, the wedding was a month away now and already guests were appearing. Your Uncle places a hand upon your back, pushing you forward and near growling into your ear, “I accept.”

You almost begin to laugh again before a man approaches, his helmet at his side, by the looks of him, he would appear to be in his early forties, late thirties if you had to place a guess. His face is cleanly shaven and the only bit of debris you can notice is a sheen of sweat from a previous duel, the man extends a hand, “Lord Mathis Rowan, a pleasure to finally meet the lost son now Lord, Brynden Malroy. Ser Dontos has spoken of you much.”

You take Lord Rowan’s hand giving it a firm shake, “Likewise Lord Rowan. And has he now?”

“All well I assure you my Lord. Your Uncle was never the slanderous type, though try as we might during the Rebellion.”

“You fought with my Uncle in the Rebellion?”

“And many occasions Lord Brynden. I am surprised to hear he has not spoken of it. Dontos?”

Your uncle looks sheepish for a moment before launching into a quick explanation, “I was sent to The Reach during the onset of the Rebellion. I fought alongside Mathis in the Battle of Ashford and for a time helped during the Siege of Storm’s End.”

“Before he was so rudely plucked from my command and sent home to King’s Landing. A pity, all in all,” Lord Mathis finishes.

You knew the rest of that story, though better to add anything.

“Your Uncle and I have kept in touch since. I would say I am envious but I know better than any how stubborn the old mule can be.”

“Who was the one that wanted to chase down the Baratheon host after Ashford?”
>>
“Not I,” Mathis responds with a slight laugh, “Lord Brynden. You’ve a good man in your employ. When he told me you would be married soon, I thought there would be no better time to come visit. Gain measure of the Vamos’ son.”

“Well thank you, Lord Mathis,” you stumble out, noticing the two men behind were finished with their duel and approaching removing their helmets.

“Manners. May I introduce Lord Brynden, my son and heir Ser Remus Rowan. And the sworn sword of my dear Lady wife, Ser Hector Rowan of the Arbor. They both intend to ride in your Tourney come the next month. Ser Hector is a member of the Order of Vines, from a branch House of mine own. I would imagine he will provide your men with a fair amount of competition.”

Giving each a small nod you respond, “So long as they do not challenge my Uncle, I would imagine so.”

Lord Mathis laughs, and Dontos rolls his eyes. He hadn’t been entirely onboard with being one of your Champions but all the same he accepted. Lord Mathis continues his wartime stories of a much younger and stubborn Dontos amusing you for the better part of an hour. The two Rowan Knights stand by idly listening and you find yourself growing just as bored.

Dontos interjects, “Mathis, perhaps you would like to speak of matters of horse. We do have a strong stock as of now, my father once sold your father some eighty horses once, yes? Or rather your son would like to challenge my nephew to a bit of practice. And we can catch up elsewhere?”

“You hadn’t struck me as a man of horseflesh Lord Mathis,” you respond, you hadn’t sold any horses in a long bit, and your family had once been renowned in The Reach for your golden coursers.

“Me? Seven no my Lord. I have no eye for them, my father however. He did so love them, a past time in his older years. Your grandfather…”

“Emmon Malroy,” Dontos helps.

“Yes Lord Emmon. He and my father were good friends, If I remember correctly they once planned to marry your aunt, Isabella was it? To me, before the Redwyne betrothal. That being said I am afraid to say the horses my father bought are long since dead. A shame truly.”

“A likely better choice than Luther Benedorn had been,” Dontos mutters behind as you lead Lord Mathis to the stables. Gawen is about tending to the evening duties with the last wisps of sunlight as his only aid. You notice Victus isn’t helping as he usually did and assume Benjin still has him on bed rest.

“If your Uncle had made mention you were a bachelor my Lord I would have suggested my own daughter. Perhaps someday, my son is to be married soon, maybe your generation will have better luck of finding a match two old men long dead desired,” Mathis jests and you laugh along with him. Not particularly of the mind to discuss marriages with children you did not have.

You lead Lord Rowan to the yard where your horses for sale are left to roam free when visitors are about, seeing no reason to particularly save your clothing now you hop the fence and chase down a young stallion, the golden of his mane being particularly dark closer to his hooves but with a fierce and striking look in his eyes and bring him over for Lord Mathis to examine.

“I must admit to ignorance my Lord,” Mathis says after a moment, “Simply not my area of expertise. I know that they are gold, and fast if old rumors still hold true. And gold matches the color of my House, but little else is known to me. Do they ride well?”
>>
“Better than that spotted palfrey you rode in on Mathis,” Dontos remarks, “Your Knights will appreciate them better than you I am certain Mathis. A gift for your son upon his wedding?”

Lord Rowan’s face twists up and he bobs his head side to side considering, “No finer a gift than gold. 600 dragons for 80?”

You keep your facade up at the low ball offer, the golden coursers were worth at the very least 500 per 40. You feel it is more ignorance of product than insult, the bloodline had been forgotten in the years since the Rebellion and no doubt your horses had little presence in The Reach after the war, not anymore at least. A good sales pitch should even this up in your favor. A discount would serve you better in the future no doubt, particularly with the Tourney of Highgarden looming.

>>
>>45782468

>>
Success, one degree.

After explaining the ins and outs of a horseflesh with a little bit of help from Dontos, and having Lord Mathis saddle up for a short jaunt about the yard you find yourself with a man who has greatly improved his offer. You suspect Dontos had something to do with it really, as they had spoken while riding and Lord Mathis had a sudden look of abash upon his face if you were any judge from the distance. You weren’t the best salesman in the Crownlands, likely Illiad or Gawen would have gotten him to throw in his daughter to boot if they had their way. But all the same you came out with offer for 1000 gold dragons. In the interest of maintaining friendship, and a small look from Dontos you knocked 200 off, a fair 800 being the agreed upon price point. All the better to see House Rowan advertising your horses in Highgarden in the coming months, you would need to bring some with you when you visited the Reach, no doubt Benjin wouldn’t allow you to skip such an event, being it so close to his home and all.

After a few more moments of hearing war stories and Lord Mathis nearly being thrown from his saddle you finally decide to call it a night. The past few days of sleeping sitting up and hours of activity since your arrival in Steadhold having finally caught up to you. You bid the two old friends good night, and take a small detour to see Victus before going to sleep. Your son was back in his own quarters now at least, the thin slice upon his cheek being the only reminder of your cousin’s madness. The lad was dead to the world as you entered and you decide against waking him. Better to see him tomorrow after your meeting with your Council, tell him and Dontos the good news.

Shuffling through Steadhold to your room you feel oddly at peace with the world. Not everything was in place, not yet, and there was still much to be done, but as of now, things were on a good course.
>>
Removing your clothing is a lazy affair and though you wished for a bath it seemed far too much effort, so you just plop into your bed naked and enjoy the cool summer night. In less than thirty days another would occupy this space with you every night. An enjoyable thought as you drifted off to sleep.

---

Entering the great hall alongside Gawen, who is still arguing with you over your recent horse sale, seeing a discount as an unnecessary thing given the quality of his horses. Benjin and Dontos await you, the former looking particularly antsy about this given month, shuffling through his papers. Dontos however looks to be going over reviews of your current military strength and where everyone was in relation to the others. Rafe Roper is speaking with him before noticing you and leaving off with a short nod. The former gold cloak had become a good hand, Dontos relied on him a fair bit to help with patrols in Steadhold, odd to see your Uncle so willing to work with a lowborn man. Perhaps you had rubbed off on him.

You take your seat at the head of the table and suddenly realize two people were missing, Elionwy and Mason. Both of which were typically early to your monthly meetings. You smile for a moment, assuming they get caught up in well… Yeah.

“Benjin have you seen Lady Elionwy?”

“Not of late my Lord,” the maester responds tapping his chin, “She seems of a different mind of late. I cannot say why.”

“Dontos? Mason?”

“He wasn’t in the yard this morning nephew. Assumed he was busy-”

“BRYNDEN!” Ser Victor’s voice interrupts your talk as he bursts through the doorway, Olyver and Worsh attempting to hold him back, “Get off me damn it! Brynden! Brynden! Bring the Maester! It’s Mason!”

Your eyes widen, suddenly remembering the Spider’s words, that he would put Elionwy to task to find your spy, and things start to click.

So this'll be good.

“Benjin, get your bag. Dontos, put Steadhold on lockdown. Meet me in Mason’s quarters. VICTOR, LET’S GO!” you snap off, pushing away from the table and dashing out leaving your rather confused council behind. Olyver and Worsh stumble to the sides as you push through, freeing Victor Haigh from their grasps and running through the castle, towards the tower where Mason and Elionwy stayed together, “Victor, tell me everything you know.”

“I went to check on Mas, he wasn’t down for drills this morning. And wasn’t in the armory like he usually is after,” Victor says sucking down air. All around you chaos has begun, the First Regiment and Household Guard are both going on full alert, “The door was opened. I thought maybe he had lost track of time. Sick or something, ya know? But I check through the crack and he’s there foaming at the mouth, the room in tatters. Sounded like someone was fighting in there. So I ran to find you. That’s all Brynden. That’s all.”

You grit your teeth and press harder, you couldn’t lose Mason. He was one of your dearest friends, not to poison. Not on this side of the bloody Narrow Sea. Coming to the stairs you take them by twos, Victor beginning to fall behind you clearly out of breath by now. You skid to a stop in front of Mason’s door, sucking down the air you can, and nearly jumping out of your skin when a crash beyond the door occurs. Just beyond you can see Mason still in a poor state, he was on his side, hacking up whatever he could, his eye’s catch on yours the usual baby blue looking like a murky puddle. The plead for you to help, not to run, he wasn’t too proud to know when he needed it. The stairs behind you are filled with the clatter of armored men, Victor’s voice can be heard over the noise, telling Benjin what he knew. Benjin would not lose Mason, if it was the same poison they used on Victus he would be able to fix it. You knew it. He had to.
>>
You feel the bite of wildfire in the corner of your eyes and push it aside. No, not now, Royce had just tried to kill the man you could call your best friend. This would not stand, you’d kill the spy yourself if need be.

You slam the door open, and immediately have to duck when a knife is sent flying your way. You return with a stare of combined wroth and utter disbelief. Before you is Elionwy, her usually neat, form fitting dress in tatters, wielding a stiletto knife and take jabs at a woman that it takes you a moment to recognize. She wore the same garb as Lady Nera Dayne, the woman you had danced with in Dorne and during the Melee, one of Obella’s ladies, but at the moment she looked like no other woman you had ever met in your life. Her cheek was bleeding where a nasty cut that looked like a face full of table was had rather than a blade had occurred and she looked wild as she attacked your otherwise unassuming stewardess. She was wielding a fistful of knives slicing and jabbing at Elionwy who moved out of their range with a graceful ease before she struck back with her own knife, digging into the imposters armpit and twisting before pushing her off.

Victor, Dontos and Benjin finally catch up to you, all repeating your same stare of confusing, before another knife comes flying your way and you duck flipping a table up for protection and screaming at Victor and Dontos to get Mason out of here. The two Knights in partial armor rush into the room and lift your old friend up, his eyes still pleading with you but not for him, for Elionwy.
>>
Another knife flies your way, just overhead of Mason and Victor, the latter slamming the door shut as he leaves, and Benjin falling to his knees to get to work. All that remained in the room were yourself and two women you had absolutely no idea knew how to fight. Elionwy dances away from another flurry of blows from the wild imposter, her left arm being near useless now as it bled profusely over the floor. Imposter Nera pushes one of the few good left chairs into her, and Elionwy catches it with her foot, before pushing it back and rushing her opponent. Truth be told you didn’t even know Elionwy had a weapon, let alone knew how to use one so… Ruthlessly. Her quiet nature was almost unnerving in this scenario, while her opponent screamed and grunted and yelled Elionwy responded with nothing more than swift precise movements. Her stiletto knife doing all the talking.

Imposter Nera suddenly remembers you are in the room, and incredibly unarmed. She eyes you and then takes a dash across the room. Your hand immediately goes to your chest pocket, gripping the dirk to pull it from it’s hidden sheathe but before you can Nera is on the floor, holding her face Elionwy mounted, breathing heavily, her knife pointed to her throat. Elionwy had seen her look and went after her, digging her blade into the imposter’s thigh, as she tripped and fell your now incredibly frightening stewardess had grabbed her by the hair and slammed her face first into your overturned table. You it back in shock, running a hand through your hair and coming to terms with what in the Seven Hells just happened.

Elionwy pulls the imposter up and pushes her into the chair, taking a position behind her with her knife firmly pressed against her throat. The woman is crying, her teeth a shattered mess, looking at your table you can see a canine firmly lodged in the wood. Varys wasn’t kidding when he said Elionwy would deal with this.

You roll your eye and remove your glove, and slapping the Seven Hells out of her face. She cries out in pain. But you can't see it. All vengeful wroth. While others may see red you see nothing but green, pure emerald wildfire, dripping from your eyes.

"When?"

"When what?" she sobs out and you strike her again.

"WHEN."

"I took her pwace after a month. I frew her body in the river. I am... I am Dornish. You couldn't tell... You couldn't tell..."

So roughly five months now she's been here, feeding information to Royce and Langward.
>>
>>45783864
>>45783927

You wave Elionwy's knife off, and she slumps back, rest her head in her hands. She was just as battered, you could see the cuts all over her. Nothing deep, just a ruined dressed and some light headedness. You'd need to get her a new dress as a thank you after this. You grip her chin firmly, causing her to cry out again in pain and roughly place it at eye level with yourself, your thumb pressing into her cheek gash, slowly deliberately as you speak.

"I am about ten seconds away from giving the order to have you quartered, and then sending your remains to Royce in a sack. The only reason you are alive at this moment is because I believe you may have some knowledge of worth. If you will tell me all you know, perhaps I will stay my hand."

Tears are running down her face now, nothing but pure fear running through them now. She wishes to cry out in further pain but the grip you have on her chin is causing her to keep the scream in her throat, a whining painful voice. And you could not care less. You had rarely harmed women in the past, perhaps a handful of times, but this women. No... She did not deserve your stayed hand. As you press deeper into her cheek she cries out in more pain, your eyes burning holes into her own. She begins to shake her head rapidly, screaming out for help in a muffled tone.

"Oh you have something to say now? Something else? WHAT! SAY IT! TELL ME EVERYTHING YOU BLOODY KNOW. GIVE ME A REASON NOT TO MAKE WHAT ROYCE DID TO MY SISTER LOOK LIKE AN AFTERNOON IN BED. TELL ME YOU FUCKING MURDEROUS WHOR-"
>>
A hand upon your shoulder presses you firmly back, Elionwy's eyes meeting you in quiet resolve. Your breath had become ragged. The impostor's eyes had rolled back and she had passed out from the pain, her hands were limp and the only thing keeping her head up was your hand. Your thumb had gone so deep into her cheek you could feel what was left of her teeth and it made a sickening sound when you pulled it out and allowed Elionwy to push you back from the brink. There was such a pain, they harmed everyone you loved. Your family, dead, Isis maimed and raped, Illiad near death trying to save his only family, Mason and Victus poisoned. You wished to inflict that pain on them. On them all. Elionwy has wrapped her arms around you, hugging you as well as she can, her blood staining your clothing as she attempts to calm you down. Your arms hand loose, the drip of fresh blood upon your thumb falling to the floor and staining the carpet. You feel the sting of wildfire in the corner of your eyes as you stare at the fake Nera. Oblivious to the eyes from the hallway now upon you. The world moves slowly as they come in, collecting her body, Benjin looking mortified by the damage done to her. Dontos instructs them to take her to the dungeon and allow Benjin to fix her up before she died. There was still much more to be learned.

Victor tells you Mason is okay, he's breathing again, the poison having barely got to him. Tough old bastard he was. He's vomiting out the better part of a day. They take Elionwy from you, her wounds needing tending to. Her eyes speak turmoil, pain as bad as your own and you're left alone. Worsh and Olyver standing guard outside the room until you are ready to leave.

---
>>
-Four Days Later-

Mason shakes his head no when you ask if she's awake yet as he takes his place next to you at the monthly meeting. He looks pale as a ghost, well paler than he usually did at least. Elionwy is on his side, her arms wrapped around his own, a few cuts still visible on her lower arms and chest. Benjin nods your way and you attempt to get the meeting under way.

Pikes are useless without support, ranged units cant function on a battlefield very well without a protective line to back out to, cause they just end up spending all their time running away.

Infantry is whats required. I say Two Trained if we can get them.

If Dad thinks that's 'spoon feeding', then perhaps he should reconsider his QMing style. As I said, this isn't a regular group of players coming together, this is a bunch of random strangers following cues from other people.
>>
>>45786289

I agree but Father's been feeling down about players getting mad at his attempts to make things less easymode.

Dad, we'll let it go without grumbling, but no more Archery contest moaning: we beat thousands to one odds for it.
>>

Or how about dad post the rulebook in his opening post so I don't have to sift through thirty+ plus threads to find pertinent info? Is that so hard to ask?

Oh come the fuck off it. Not the QMs fault you can't do two google searches

I'll start including this in the OP.

I'm not really sure what else I can say. Is what it is.

So no deal. Time to move on.

So Warfare seems to be the shoe in to improve. I'm not really surprised on that one. I don't think I even need to do a vote. So we'll have 20 EXP left over. Want to do anything with it?

Then you shouldn't have voted, you should have asked what would this option would give, either another anon, or father would have explained.

I was jerking off when this went down and when I saw the winning choice I couldn't get mad at it because I wasn't there to vote against.

You could have read his opening post and seen

I will be using the Game of Thrones edition, as well as a few of the expansions namely OOSP and a few house rules which will be explained as we come to them. If you have questions about how things work or why certain actions are taken I can explain them as we go along. In truth this is a learning experience for me as well.

Okay, I'll do this. You hit +19 House Fortunes. I'll bump it to +4d6 bonus. I was considering this anyway. Because realistically, you were going to get that high eventually, so why not yeah?

There no longer worthless.

ANYWAY. Yeah we can't really buy another ability, so sitting on it seems to be winning until we can afford Athletics or Endurance it would seem.

Nah It's good. I've just been frustrated personally lately. The not being able to keep a weekend schedule, work, and feeling like I'm letting up on my 'hard mode' bits of the quest is starting to get to me. Not your guys fault. I'll do better to explain stuff in the future. Though very rarely do we go into House Fortunes blind usually I give some speeches from characters or you guys have plans.

All that being said, yeah I am kind of burnt today. So I'm going to call it now. And have some bad news. I am going on a business trip starting tomorrow until next Saturday. I think the stress from that is getting to me too, cause I've known for awhile. So... No thread next week or this weekend. HOPEFULLY, a thread next Sunday, the 13th. But I can't make promises, if not I'l be returning Thursday the 17th.

The little break might do me some good. We're getting into the juicy bits with Royce and the Wedding and have a kid. So I'm not going to bail. Just need to chill a bit I think. Not your guys fault.
>>
>>45786957
>passive aggressive
>of or denoting a type of behavior or personality characterized by indirect resistance to the demands of others and an avoidance of direct confrontation,

I felt I was being pretty direct from the start, and I wasn't avoiding direct 'confrontation' such as it is on the internet using words. By apologizing for being a right cunt, I wasn't 'avoiding' further confrontation, I was apologizing for my earlier cuntish behavior when calling out what I thought was an unfair ruling. I can't argue against being entitled, in the sense that yes I felt entitled to the full information readily available to me before voting and doing a revote since active misinformation was being spread, but that's it. I never asked for the house fortune concession

Darkstar, for he is of the night.

>>45787306
Nah I'm not really feeling writing the next scene. Archie is a cunt and a half and I feel like I might start letting myself leak through. Haha

>>45787313
I'm not bent out of shape per say. It's still incredible to me people enjoy the quest and keep coming back. It's a personal thing where I don't feel like I'm maintaining a healthy balance between player agency and difficulty. I don't want the Princewood to be a walk in the park, even though the Intimidate roll is going to make it a bit easier. Fake Nera knows some shit. But yeah, it's really just a personal thing right now. I still love the quest. And you guys. We're all just cunts to each other sometimes.

Oh, for those that want something to talk about for when I return. I'm going to do the Tourney in the style from A Hedge Knight. So we'll have 5 Champions, Dontos is obviously one of them.

Who else do we want to be on that?
>>
>>45787225
>'hard mode' bits
I mean, I don't think your doing a bad job at that. We certainly don't have it as good as Karban, Brachen or the Iron and Hate guys and for every good thing that's happened bad things have happened. Our son has been laid up in bed for months, we nearly lost Mason, Illiad lost a leg, we have a coalition of houses (and a Magister from Myr) ready to kill us and though Redward is slowly imploding the other houses that hate us aren't likely to go away. It's really all in how you frame it I guess. I certainly don't think this is easy mode: the quest

>>45787465
>I don't feel like I'm maintaining a healthy balance between player agency and difficulty
m8 we are still hated by Cersei, Queen of Westeros, and it is still a few decades for the books to come into play. We are also deep into the crownlands, are a Targaryen Loyalist House, and have a shitload of enemies. Just put it down the road or something, this quest has time.

Wesley, if he's not soured on the tourney experience after his brother went coo coo. He could use the influence, as anons have said

Oh and Lucas I guess, but I feel like that's a given since he's the champion of the melee in our last tourney.
>>
>>45787644
>We [...] are a Targaryen Loyalist House
Speak for yourself, it was their own damn mess as far as I'm concerned we're a Malroy loyalist house now and forevermore.
>>
>>45787465
Can I just say that I loved that interrogation scene? All the anons suggestions combined made for a pretty awesome combo. That fake is never going to be able to look us in the eye and every time she glances at her reflection she'll see the scar on her cheek and remember what we did. Jesus Christ. I wonder how badly Redward will get it if he we ever get our hands on him. Money says he'll puss out and pull a Hitler, killing himself before we ever get to him.
>>
>>45787654
I actually love the Archery Contest. I just grumble about it for the laughs now. It's ridiculous that it even happened, the odds were so out of your favor that I can't even deny how amazing it was. And it is Brynden's high point. Next up will be the Wedding and Princewood.

My favorite thing about the Archery Contest is it introduced the Longwaters, and I like them a lot. Lucas has become a great character for me to use, I like that Brynden has friends.

>>45787504
>>45787644

Valid points both. I think I just let it get to my head. You guys have just gotten really good at playing within the confines of your limitations now. Malroy is still a Minor House, but we're doing better. A lot better. Qorgyle marriage is pretty good. I still haven't decided what the dowry is going to be.

Thanks guys. I'm glad people enjoy. You guys are the reason I do this shit.

Now if only you guys would take the hint and buy the Small Town upgrade so we could get a port and market.
>>
>>45787774
And as far as I'm concerned, the minute we hear news of White Walkers and Dany comes back with dragons we'll secretly aid her as the rest of the Seven Kingdoms implode. We're already technically helping the remaining Targs by helping Varys, we just don't know it yet
