>Twitter: https://twitter.com/HaremProtaGuide
Oh look, I’m not dead! Thanks to all of you who were waiting for this, life sucks sometimes and I couldn’t run but I swear I’m trying to get time. Thankfully I have some time now, meaning that we can finally get on with the ambush! I’ll also be on and off a bit, but I’m going to keep running until late hopefully.

>Fate Point: 2
>Money: $565
>Equipment Carried: Tier 2 Assault Rifle. Tier 2 Armor. Tier 1 Pistol. Tier 2 Rucksack. Tier 1 Med-kit. Tier 2 Med-kit. Tier 1 Toolkit.

Your name is William and you are currently under fire. Not literally in the smothered under burning flames way, but there are currently an unknown number of hostiles shooting at the train. You aren’t sure how many of them are actually shooting at you or even if any of them are shooting at you on purpose, but a few bullets wiz by close enough that you can hear them or see them as they spark off the roof of the train. Apparently Sarah shooting at them got their attention.

Said worthy braces herself once more, then takes another shot with her massive rifle at a target you can only barely see. You aren’t sure if they’re dead or not, but based on Sarah’s previous accuracy you can guess which one it is. Immediately afterwards she slides back on the roof of the car, hiding most of her body from view.

Morrigan had been looking over the edge of the roof door, but she seems to have disappeared inside if the swearing coming from the car is any indication. At this point you need to make a choice and quickly, as you’re still sitting in the open.

>Try to climb back inside the car with Morrigan. You can’t see anything but the car seems to be bulletproof.
>Slide back down the lip with Sarah. You’re on duty with her and she needs cover. Less chance of being shot, but limited field of view.
>Stay where you are and start shooting. Better view but more exposed.

You know where you’re supposed to be at the moment, which is helping Sarah. That’s your job and you always do what you’re supposed to. Not bothering to take a shot you turn and slide down the opposite slope a bit with her, catching yourself before you take your bearings once more. Sarah is already taking another shot, the loud report of her rifle signaling the death of another attacker.

Looking out over the lip of the roof, you can tell that the attackers aren’t really shooting at you, much of the fire seems directed at both the rear and front of the train where the guards from the army are stationed. They seem to be giving nearly as good as they get in return, with fire coming from the clearly hardened rail cars.

As the attackers, whoever they are, decide that things are how they want them, you see several dozen more men spring up from the ground and start to rush the train, some of them shooting from the hip and others simply running and yelling as they hold up melee weapons. The shooting from the ones farther back continues, but they seem to aim a bit higher, missing more shots as they try not to hit their fellows.

You take aim with your rifle, even as the steady report of Sarah’s large weapon continues to silence those further away. You have the perfect shot lined up on one of the charging men, his rifle still by his hip even as he covers the relatively short distance from where he started to the train car. You pull the trigger and… nothing happens. Blinking, you duck down once more, looking over your rifle. Surely you didn’t screw something up? You checked it before you were on duty and… you left the safety on. Of all the rookie mistakes you could’ve made, you left the safety on.
>>
>>45743614
Flipping it off you peek over the edge of the roof again as Sarah reloads. Most of the men are either on or nearly on the train by now, again with many of them focusing on the front or rear of the train. There are still plenty shooting at you, but you see some of them start to leapfrog forwards even as the sound of shooting intensifies from in and around the train.

You turn to look at Sarah, who by this point has finished reloading.

“We need to move,” she says, peeking up above the roof like you were, “The only question is where.”

>Head inside the train, regroup with everyone.
>Slide down the back of the train and head towards the rear, there were a lot of bad guys headed that way.
>Slide down the back and head forwards, you can hop on somewhere else and surprise them as they go through the train.

“We need to regroup with the others,” says Sarah, “We aren’t going to do much good up here by ourselves.”

You nod to her, taking another glance over the top of the car and to the roof hatch which is on the other side. You’re still being shot at intermittently, but it’s nowhere near as bad as it was before. You should both be fine if you move quickly.

“Who should go first?” she asks as she looks at you, pulling out her SMG in preparation for the quick dash over the top.

“You,” you say as you heft your rifle, “I’ll cover.”

“Right,” she says, crawling over towards the hatch and waiting for your signal.

You nod to her, having moved over a few feet yourself as you look for a target. Finding a small group of men leapfrogging towards you relatively in front of the car you take aim and pull the trigger. Normally you only fire single shots or bursts, but this presents you with much too good of a target, so you lay in several bursts over the group, dropping at least three of them. Sarah takes the time to clamber over the roof and towards the hatch, with the sound of firing coming from the cars around you.

As Sarah starts down the ladder you fire another few shots at nearby targets, you aren’t sure if you hit them but most seem to drop and stay down. When Sarah’s head disappears under the lip of the hatch you sling your rifle and scramble over the crest of the roof, not quite diving for the hole as a few shots spang off the metal around you. You manage to make it to the hatch and scramble inside, feet just managing to grab a ladder rung before you fall.

As you clamber down you can hear firing from inside the car, a glance down lets you see both Morrigan and Nem firing at unseen attackers. You aren’t sure if they’re hitting anything, but by the swearing and return fire that comes back you think not. At least not until Sarah turns the corner where they just were, surprising whoever was down there and hosing them with SMG fire.

As your feet touch the ground and you look around, there seems to be a bit of a lull in the fighting around your immediate area. It seems they didn’t think that there would be too many guards here and focused all their forces where they knew the army would likely station their people.

Everyone reloads except for Cath and Bellona, as Morrigan gathers you up for a quick talk.

“Alright!” she says in a louder than normal voice so you can all hear what she’s saying, “Looks like the assholes aren’t here right now but they could be any second. Once we’re all ready to rock we’re going to…”

>Stay here and guard Koko’s stuff, that’s what we’re here to do.

“We’re going to clear out the rear of the train and anyone that doesn’t look like they belong nearby,” she says to you as you’re all locked and loaded.

“We’re not leaving the car unguarded are we?” Mary asks, looking around at what is a rather awesome treasure trove of military hardware.

“No,” says Morrigan, pointing to Cath, Bellona and Sarah, “You three are staying behind and guarding the car. Cath I want you on guard facing the rear, watch your fire if anyone starts to sneak up on you I don’t want to get shot in the back. Bell, Sarah, I want you facing front. Same story, don’t shoot anybody on our side if they make it this far. I know it’s a shit detail but it needs done.”

All three nod, this is a combat situation, not the time to be arguing over who does what as long as the orders make sense. Bellona and Sarah immediately head towards the “front” of the car while Cath waits for the four of you to go.

Nem and Mary take the lead with hardly a look for Morrigan, who shoulders her rifle in support.

“Billy,” she says as the two gather at the door to the next car, “We’re on support but I want you watching windows and doors as well got it? If there’s any assholes waiting outside or trying to climb in you and me have to get them.”

You nod to Morrigan, hefting your rifle as well. Nem looks back at you and Morrigan gives her a nod. She then throws open the door, Mary leading the way with a knife and a pistol at the ready, Nem and her shotgun close behind. You and Morrigan take the door one at a time, covering the car as you go.
>>
>>45745666
You do the same for the first one and second one, finding both cars to be empty and stacked mostly with random boxes of things that you aren’t sure of and don’t particularly care about. Finally in the third car you find a group of three bandits as you open the door. Even as Mary darts in they don’t look up as they are too focused on digging through the crates, which seem to have a variety of foodstuffs in them.

It’s over in seconds, Mary dropping two with neat little shots to the head and Nem taking out the last with a shotgun blast that essentially decapitates the bandit. There’s not even that much damage to the area as you continue on.

The next few cars are all the same, small groups of bandits no more than four at a time and all of them seem to be digging through the crates as you go. Many of them look like they haven’t eaten much if anything in a while and only a few actually look healthy or carry decent weapons.

Finally you make it far enough down the train that you don’t find anymore bandits, but you can still hear the sound of shooting further along the train. Morrigan raises her hand to slow down and on the next door she leans out the side between the cars to get a look.

“We’re only three cars from the end,” she says as she leans back, “There are still a good number of bandits around. The military is pinned, but the bandits aren’t making much headway either. We’re going to…”

>Push straight up the cars and open a path for the military.

Oh neat Guide is back. Hi Guide!

>>45745682
“Head down a couple cars and then stop, I don’t want to get shot by the guys on our side and we should be able to put a hurt on the bandits from that position too.”

“What if they see us?” asks Nem, reloading her shotgun as she does so.

“Shoot them first,” says Morrigan, “We’ll deal with everything else later.”

“Right,” says Nem, “Great plan.”

“If you have a better one I’m all ears,” says Morrigan, to which Nem shrugs.

You all stack up on the door like you have a dozen times before. This time when Nem shoves the door open and Mary starts to dart in there’s a shot, somebody opening fire at the movement. Two somebodies actually, but their shots go high, missing Mary as she ducks inside bent over. The two men inside don’t seem to have automatic weapons or at least they aren’t using them as such, Mary’s quick movement enough to throw off their aim.

Nem is in right after her, her shotgun coming up even as Mary ducks to the side to try and stay out of the way of one of the shooters. The other notices Nem and tries to bring his weapon back around, but she’s already put one into his chest before he can, causing him to drop back in a spray of blood.

The man’s companion hesitates for a split second, gun wavering back towards Nem even as he’s sprayed with blood. If it were a matter of quickness between the two of them then it might have ended badly, but even as Morrigan shoves her way into the door Mary pops up in front of the man once more, knife in hand. One hand deflects the barrel of the rifle upwards and out of the way, even as her strong hand drives a knife into his soft and unprotected throat and then rips it out, spraying more blood.
>>
>>45746506
As Morrigan quickly makes sure there isn’t anyone else in the car and you follow her, Mary gives her knife a quick wipe, her clothes and skin once more covered with blood.

“One more car, then we take them from the flank,” says Morrigan.

“Hopefully they didn’t hear that,” says Mary as you clear the car slowly. Finding the last door, Morrigan calls for a pause.

“Hold it here,” she says, then taps you on the shoulder, “Billy you get that side,” she says, pointing to what counts as the “far” side of the train.

Ducking around you find a number of bandits holed up close to the side of the train where the soldiers in the last car can’t get a shot at them, but they can’t get out without being shot either. There’s a few men further out taking potshots from cover, but it doesn’t seem like they’re going to take out the soldiers that way. At least until you see the guy near the front with something that looks like it’s on fire.

Making a snap decision you bring your rifle up and pull the trigger, opening fire on the men against the car. At first they don’t seem to realize where the fire is coming from, the few who live long enough to realize they’re even being shot at looking around in confusion before you kill them. Your last burst goes into the man with the flaming stuff, causing him to drop it prematurely, causing it to go out in the slushy ground. This takes all of a few seconds, those who aren’t dead still stumbling away from the safety of the car and exposing themselves to fire from the soldiers.

You hear firing from both the other side of the car and what you think is inside, meaning that Morrigan, Nem and Mary were doing their jobs as well. Ducking back into cover so you can reload, you slot the empty magazine in a pocket and pull out a full one. You’re going through a decent bit of ammo, you hope Koko pays for it.
>>
>>45746525
Even as you reload rounds whizz by where you were, the men surrounding the train turning to open fire. They’re good shots for the most part, now that they’re so close at least. You’re pretty much pinned, not daring to take a shot… at least until the rear car opens up with what seems like even more guns, a few explosions ringing out as grenades get used. This proves just enough to break the bandits, causing those who aren’t already dead to turn and run. Most don’t make it and are cut down. There might be a few wounded left, but you don’t think anyone is going to take the time to check while the rest of the train is under attack.

Even as your ears ring from the sustained firing, you see Morrigan holding out a white cloth and waving it back and forth on the other side of the car. When she isn’t shot at she nods to you and points forwards. You nod, turning to watch that direction as she goes to talk to the soldiers. It’s only a minute before she comes back, Mary and Nem joining you.

“We think we’re secure back here!” she yells over the ringing, “They’re going to leave a squad and their wounded, the rest are coming with us!”

You all nod, watching as a dozen soldiers pile out of the rear car and start to take up positions. Morrigan gestures for you to…

Ok, headed down the "near" side wins. Looks like things are going to get interesting again. Give me a minute to finish eating and then I'll get to writing.

Hmm, I wonder how it could be interesting. Maybe we run into kids forced to fight like we were?
>>

And we'd still kill them, Why should we care?
>>
>>45747112
I'm guess it's just more bullets. Fire fights are interesting.

Morrigan gestures to the “near” side of the train, the one that had been closest to the initial ambush. Even as some of the soldiers climb back up onto the train to go down the middle, Morrigan grabs one and presumably tells him about where the rest of MMS is stationed and to be careful about it. He nods, then Morrigan comes back to you and gestures towards the front of the train. You move at a relatively quick pace, at least initially since you cleared this section before.

You have no problems even with snipers as you move down the way, occasional checks by the soldiers in both teams keeping you all moving at the same relative pace. Eventually you make it back to the car containing Koko’s stuff, which has a few more people in it now. Besides Bell, Cath and Sarah you find Koko, her eyepatch lady guard and a few more members of her team. There’s still firing coming occasionally from the front of the train, you think where the bad guys have the engine and frontal garrison surrounded.

Koko perks up when she sees the four of you, leaning out from the side of the train car and waving.

“Morrigan!” she calls out when you get close enough, “I’m glad to see you, I need you for a job!”

“What job?” asks Morrigan, briefly lowering her weapon, “Aren’t we doing it right now?”

“I need to go that way!” Koko says, pointing towards where the attack originated from, “Find their hideout.”

“Why the fuck do you need to do that?” says Morrigan, gesturing down the train, “we need to secure the train first.”

“I’ve got my reasons,” says Koko, suddenly going serious on you, “Are you coming or not?”

Morrigan sighs, looking up the train.

>You all go with Koko.

You can tell just by looking at her that Morrigan is less than amused by Koko’s antics, but Koko is at the moment your employer. As much as Morrigan dislikes dealing with Koko, she’s also paying you quite a bit of money to help guard all of her stuff. The battle inside of Morrigan is as epic as it is brief, practicality winning out over her personal feelings.

“Fine, you can have everyone who was here already,” says Morrigan, “We still need to cover this side.”

“Fine fine,” says Koko, before pointing to you, “But I need Will too.”

Morrigan blinks, “Why do you need Will?”

“To make the numbers even of course!” says Koko, gesturing to her and her bodyguard, Cath, Bellona and Sarah along with the four male members of her bodyguard that had managed to gather there so far.

Morrigan starts to say something but then stops, simply shaking her head.

“Will, go with her,” she says, “try to make sure she doesn’t get shot.”

You nod, turning to find Koko smiling at you.

“Come on everyone!” she says, even as she grabs you by the arm and pulls you in the general direction of the glint you saw earlier, “Let’s go find what I hope we’re finding.”

You nod, her squad fanning out in front for the most part, with Sarah, Cath and Bellona following behind. You somehow get roped into walking with Koko, who seems to want you there for some reason.

Koko looks at you as you move at a light jog, your head mostly on a swivel until you notice she’s doing so.

“Having fun yet Will?” she asks you with a grin.

You frown wondering why getting shot at would be fun.

“Never mind,” she says with the same grin, “It’ll be fun when we get there.”

You frown some more, wondering what she’s talking about.

Eventually you make it to the general area of where you saw the fire. Initially you expect to find nothing… but then you see a dead body, probably from Sarah earlier. Looking nearby you find a concealed entrance to some sort of underground compound.

“We need to get in there,” says Koko, gesturing to the entrance, the leftover pieces of the fire still glowing dimly in the cold. With a nod the eyepatch lady leads the way inside, the sound of gunshots still coming from the train.

You wait for an all clear from below or the sounds of gunshots. The first thing you get is the all clear, so you make your way inside. Koko follows after most of you, Cath and Sarah taking watch at the top.

At the bottom, Koko makes some gestures, her team spreading out through two of the three corridors. Bellona goes with one, making three per team.

“Come on Will,” she says, gesturing down the last corridor, “Let’s go see what we can find.”

You look down the corridor, which is dimly lit and not all that wide, then back to Koko.

Koko just gives you a smile, reaching down and pulling your pistol from your belt.

“Don’t worry about me,” she says, double checking to make sure it’s loaded and off safe, “Let’s go explore.”

You nod at her, lifting your rifle and heading down the dimly lit corridor. Koko follows close behind you, though you’re pretty sure she’s not actually looking around too hard.

You don’t find any branching corridors or places where it looks like anyone can be hiding, just a long straight hallway with intermittent alcoves. It looks like it was supposed to be… something more than a corridor at some point, but it’s unfinished.

Eventually you make it all the way down to the end of the corridor, finding… nothing. Well nothing isn’t the right word for what you find, you just find what looks like another office with a slightly fancy chair.

“Let’s look around Will,” says Koko, the pistol held low at her side. You don’t see much, just some holders on the wall, the desk and a bookshelf. You look through the desk, but you don’t find much of anything besides some pencils and a few pieces of paper with nothing on them.

Koko meanwhile goes along the wall, touching the candle holders. You watch her after you’re done with the desk and she smiles at you.

“Watch the bookcase Will,” she says after she touches one of the candle holders.

You frown, turning towards the bookcase.

“With your rifle,” she says.

You comply, unsure as to why you’re doing so… until Koko pulls the candle holder and the bookcase swings open, revealing a small room behind the bookcase… along with a rather skinny looking man, cowering in the corner.

You keep your rifle pointed at him, glancing over to Koko.
>>
>>45749248
“We found some treasure,” she says without her usual grin, walking slowly over to the man.

“P-please,” he says, clearly without a weapon, “I-I know things, I can pay you, just don’t kill me!”

“Mmm,” says Koko, turning to look at you, “I’m sure so many people said that to you are your men “King George.””

The man whimpers some more, curling back into the corner more.

Koko looks at you, her eyes looking at you with a coldness that you feel is somehow more real than her normal cheery face.

“What do you think Will?” she says, pointing her gun at the cowering man’s head, then lowering it towards his heart, “He’s worth $10,000 in bounty money, aren’t you?”

The man nods his head, “P-please,” he says, “I-I know things! I can tell you just don’t kill me!”

Koko smiles a wintry smile at him, then turns back to you.

“What do you think Will?” she asks, “Should we kill him or take him back with us?” Koko’s face is cold, hard as the frozen plains above you.

>Kill him, money sounds good.
>Maybe we should keep him… does he know stuff?
>Shrug. This is beyond you.

Will has been in more or less this exact situation before and shrugged. He left it up to Morrigan.

That put it in a way that does sound like him I guess. The point is, asking questions helps you learn and grow as a person.

Unless you want Will to be LOLBLANKETS for the rest of his life.
>>
>>45749261

Can we at least ask Koko how she knew this person would be here?
>>
>>45749626
I don't want him to be "LOL BLANKETS!"

But I'm also not going to suddenly turn Will into a philosopher. Koko isn't exactly one of his usual group.

He tends to have these sorts of learning/growing exchances with Cath/Morrigan.

I see it in this instance as, Koko is the boss, what she says go, not his place to decide what to do with the guy.

If it was Morrigan/Sarah/Mary the talkers I'd feel more comfortable feeling his way around it.
>>
>>45749626
You cant suddenly expect him to jump from 2+2=30 to logarithms, that's just not realistic.

You look at Koko, consider all of your options and then you just shrug at Koko. This is so far out of your realm of expertise that you don’t even have a basis for it. Granted, $10,000 sounds like a lot of money, but you don’t know where you’d spend it, nor where you’d actually go to get so much money. Koko might know, but then again you aren’t even sure if she’s telling the truth.

Koko smiles in return, a small hint of warmth coming in before she turns back to the man.

“Looks like it’s up to me what happens to you,” she says to the man, who whimpers some more.

“P-please,” the man whimpers.

“If you think please would help,” she says, “You’re more deluded than when you started your little campaign.”

The man opens his mouth to speak once more, only to have Koko jam the barrel of your pistol in his mouth.

“Listen, I don’t give a damn about you one way or the other. Unfortunately I do think you might know some things, so I’m not going to shoot you, as long as you’re quiet.”

The man nods slowly.

Koko grins and pulls the gun out of his mouth.

“Alright, on your feet,” she says, pointing with the pistol.

The man does so, quivering a bit as he stands there.

“Will, shoot him if he tries anything,” she says, leaning down to pick up a few things that were in the room with him.

You nod, your rifle pointed at the man. He turns to look at you in the same scared manner he did for Koko. You simply stare at him and wait for Koko, who is done shortly as there isn’t much in the room.

“This all looks very interesting,” she says as she flips through some papers, “I’m sure you’ll answer all my questions with these.”

The man simply bobs his head quickly.

“Alright then Will,” says Koko, “Lets head back.”
>>
>>45751000
You nod, waiting as the man goes in front of you, Koko once more close behind. Eventually you make it back to the entrance, where the rest of the group is waiting.

“Look what we found~” says Koko, her normal grin coming back.

“Who’s that?” asks Bellona.

“A prize,” says Koko, “One that might lead to an even greater one down the line.”

Bellona frowns, but doesn’t say anything else.

Koko just grins, then smiles at you once more. “Isn’t it fun Will?”

You aren’t really sure how to answer, but Koko doesn’t even give you time, whistling everybody up and out towards the train.
For some reason you don’t think your and Koko’s ideas of “Fun” match.
