You are Captain SAMANTHA WELLINGS, a newly minted captain of the Centauri Accord!

Right now, standing in front of you was the masseuse that had tended to you during your brief stop in the spa, except it was pretty damn clear that she was no ordinary masseuse, considering how she's managed to just waltz onto your ship and even TANK seemed to be deferring to her. Either that meant she had enough combat ability to win his respect, or she had some SERIOUSLY high command clearance.

Neither option seemed particularly comforting.

"Well, it seems that you've got me at a bit of a disadvantage here." You force a smile as you shake her hand. Powerful grip, as expected. "I have the feeling you already know who and my crew are, Mrs...?"

"Captain Elizabeth Parker, Centauri Accord Intelligence." Elizabeth smiles, the innocent expression now having a sinister undertone. "I figured I'd give you and your crew a little help on on your mission!"

"And gather data on us." You frown.

"Oh no, we already plenty about you and your crew!" Elizabeth chuckles. "The massage was just one of my many... hobbies!"

Hobbies, huh?

"All right." You sigh as you plop back down into your chair. "What does Accord Intelligence want to do with us?"

"Well, considering that you're part of the Accord's Shadow Fleet, that means you're technically under the oversight of Accord Intelligence." Elizabeth smiles. "I just figured I'd help you out on this little smuggling ring of yours!"

"Why, that's mighty generous of you." You grin. "Any sort of assistance would be a great help to us."

"Too true!" Elizabeth nods happily. "Anyways, since your man here doesn't seem to be the talkative type, I suppose it falls to me to brief you on the interrogations!"

"All right, so what did they know?" You ask.

"Well, they didn't know much, which isn't surprising considering they're at the lowest end of the chain." Parker shrugs. "But we do have a lead. The crew was apparently picking up their smuggled cargo from a local trade station. One of the Trade Guild stations.

You frown. You had heard of the Trade Guild. A organization of merchants and traders that had banded together to form their own little bloc. While technically not an actual faction like the Accord or the Hegemony, the Trade Guild still wielded quite a bit of influence since they had a stranglehold on both freighter ships and the trade routes they traveled on. In addition, to maximize profits, the Trade Guild was officially a neutral party, meaning they'd serve anybody, even pirates if they could get away with it.

"Well that complicates things a bit." You frown. "I don't think it's the type of situation we could just go in shooting."

"Nope, it's going to require a bit of finesse." Parker nods. "I could provide a bit of assistance to you, if you want. CAI has quite a number of resources, even in the Frontier."

"Sure, you can tag along!" You nod. "Bradford, are we all resupplied?"

"All systems are green and everything's been restocked. Scott also reports no issues with the equipment." Bradford nods, though you can see his eyes darting warily to Elizabeth every so often.

"Excellent." You turn back to Elizabeth. "I know we're not exactly five star accommodations here..."

"Oh, it's no problem! There are worse places to sleep than ship's hold!" Elizabeth laughs. "I don't mind shipboard accommodations!"

"Well then." You nod to Tank. " Tank, show her one of our spare rooms, then."

Tank gives a crisp salute, his armored glove loudly clanging against his helmet as he marches out of the bridge, Elizabeth in tow.

Bradford tracks their progress as they leave, and waits for a few seconds after the door closes before speaking to you.

"Captain, I don't trust that woman. I suggest we keep close surveillance on her." Bradford whispers to you.

You frown. Bradford does sort of have a point, and he was usually pretty accurate with his hunches. Then again, he always did tend to be overly cautious as well, sometimes seeing threats where there weren't any...

"You've got a good point, Bradford." You nod as you activate secure comms with Tank. "Tank, keep an eye on Elizabeth's quarters. Escort her if she ever leaves. Is that clear?"

A single click of acknowledgement from Tank.

"All right, we'll have eyes on her." You say to Bradford. "Anyways, get clearance from Control to launch us back out. Amy, start setting a course for Gateway Station."

"On it!" Amy starts punching in coordinates on her nav computer while Bradford gets on the line with Eridani Control.

"Oh boy, oh boy." Elsa rubs her hands together in anticipation.

"Cool it, Elsa. We're most likely not going to be doing any shooting here." You explain. "Gateway Station is Trade Guild territory. That's neutral ground."

"Awwww." Elsa groans.

"So then how do we approach the station?" Bradford asks, briefly breaking away from comms.

"Hmmm, well, I was sorta thinking we lurk on the edge of their sensor range, try to pick out any suspicious traffic and tail it." You put a hand to your chin.

"Booooring." Elsa leans back in her seat. "We should just go in transponder off and shoot up the place! Threaten them into spilling the beans!"

"Or you know, we could just go in like NORMAL people." Amy shakes her head. "They're Trade Guild, right? They'll pretty much let ANYBODY land as long as they pay the fees! It'll be a good opportunity to get a team in!"

"I suppose we can board under legitimate pretenses." You nod. "Amy, are we ready to jump?"

"Always ready." Amy grins as she hits the FTL trigger.

As the Gullinbursti makes the jump to Gateway Station, that gives you some time to start planning. Once you were on the station, you'd need to find any intel that could lead you to the location of the smuggling ring. Perhaps you should consult with Elizabeth over this? She probably had a better handle on these types of ops than you did.

You suppose you should coordinate with Elizabeth over this. After all, she probably had way more experience in this sort of op than you did. With that, you make your way to Elizabeth's temporary lodgings, one of the spare staterooms located on the ship. Tank is standing resolute at the door, like a stone statue. His head turn ever so slightly to see you coming, where he salutes crisply again.

"I suppose she didn't come out?" You ask.

Tank shakes his head.

"All right, I'm going in."

Tank nods as you open the door.

"Oh, hello Captain!" Elizabeth says in her regular cheerful tone as she works on some program on her datapad that you can't see from your angle. "I suppose we're on our way to Gateway?"

"That's right." You nod. "The plan is to board the station incognito and try to see what we can find out from there."

"Mhm, mhm." Elizabeth puts her datapad away and looks at you intently. "So, first things first. Do you want this to be completely on the up and up? Or do you want your visit to be a smokescreen for say... a secondary team 'fact finding' team?"

"Yeah, something tells me that Trade Guild and the smugglers aren't exactly going to be very forthcoming." You sigh. "I'm thinking we'll probably have to hack their severs or something if we want to get any meaningful data."

"Hm, that's quite true." Elizabeth nods. "Now, of course, the Trade Guild won't let just ANYBODY waltz around on their station, especially in the secure areas. You'll need a face team to distract to, while the actual infiltration team gathers the data."

"Well, Lida's our tech expert, so she's a definite member of the infiltration team. She can hack pretty much anything." You note. "Scott, too. He can navigate maintenance areas pretty easily."

"Hm, yes, so we'll just have to find people who can properly protect and support them." Elizabeth nods. "I know you've got quite a few candidates."

I say put Tank on the face team. He'll be there as a bodyguard, but his main purpose will be to cause just enough of a ruckus to worry the station guards, but not enough to make them go on full alert.

Tank is big and imposing, and he's very good at that. So in short, let's have him play Big Daddy for a bit while our sneakier folks get shit done.

"I think Elsa and Bradford would be the ideal guards." You say.

"Hmmm, that would leave the face team. So, that would definitely be including you. Who else would you want to bring along? Being big and flashy is the best, but you should be careful not to make your group too big and unwieldy. Might draw the wrong kind of attention..."

Maybe instead of the previous threads' suggestion that a single clone is made from Sam, perhaps PSYCHIC TWINS (a boy and a girl) would be better (one specced into non-combat powers, the other specced into combat powers)

Yes, every other character is an OC--a recycled OC, if you look back at Merc's quests.

Yes, the more familiar characters are ripped straight from other media--in the past it was Game of Thrones and Call of Duty, now it's XCOM.

Hope you enjoy your stay!

"No, let's go to the bridge." You say.

The two of you exit the stateroom and head back for the bridge, Tank following close behind like a shadow. Elizabeth walks alongside you with a bit of a spring in her step. For a spy, she was pretty high spirited Was this common among CAI agents?

You're still left wondering when you reach the bridge, where Bradford turns to face you.

"Captain, we've arrived at Gateway Station." He announces dutifully.

On the front viewscreen, you could see a large, circular station hanging in space, with a central core surrounded by a number of rings, reach rings having large prongs jutting out like horns where ships could dock. Judging from the size of the station, you figured dozens of freighters could be docked in at a time. Dozens more were in holding patterns around the station, either waiting in line for an open spot or preparing to leave for their next destination.

"Beautiful, isn't it?" Elizabeth says wistfully. "The Trade Guild's jewel of the Frontier, the go to point for everything that goes in and out of this sector."

"And a hive of scum and villainy." Bradford nearly spits out words. "The Trade Guild are nothing but smugglers and criminals with a business license."

"That they are." Elizabeth nods. "But smugglers and criminals do have their uses."

"Since we're not offloading any cargo, Gateway Control is having us hold position away from the station. We'll have to board by shuttle." Lida explains.

"That would make extraction a bit problematic." Amy frowns.

"It's a spaceport, there's no shortage of ways off." You point out. "Anyways, we'll be boarding in two teams. Tank, Natalia, and Elizabeth will be coming with me to make a distraction. Bradford, Elsa, Lida, and Scott will infiltrate the station and hack their servers to find the info we need. Any objections?"

You look around the bridge. There are none.

"Question, Captain." Bradford raises his hand. "How will the infiltration team board? If we have to go in by shuttle, they'll be sure to log whoever is riding on it."

"Haha, well, I DO have a plan, but I don't think any of you are gonna like it." You say with a grin.

"Oh, well, if you put it like that..." Bradford shakes his head.

Lida is silent, but you can see her visibly shiver.

"Might as well just tell us now and get it over with." Bradford sighs.

"Well, my idea was that you all don spacesuits, cling onto the underside of the shuttle, and when we get close enough, you all just launch off and board the station in person." You suggest.

"You're right. I don't like this plan." Bradford sighs.

"I-It's theoretically possible." Lida says quietly. "I mean, that's how the Klitzinger Gang pulled off their heists-"

"Until that one time where they overshot and fell into Jupiter's atmosphere." Bradford points out.

"Well, they were using old and unreliable jump packs. I'm sure Scott would keep ours to a higher standard."

Meanwhile, Tank's shoulders droop. Look like he really wanted to do that.

"There there, Tank, I'm sure there will be plenty of action for you on the station." You pat his armored shoulder. "Well, if there's not more objections, let's get suited up and go!"

---

It only takes a few minutes for all of you to gear up. You, Tank, Natalia, and Elizabeth board the shuttle, while Bradford, Elsa, Lida, and Scott somewhat reluctantly clamp onto the hull with magnetic grips.

"Cap, if we live through this, we are so gonna get back at you for this." Elsa grumbles.

"You can try." You say smugly as the shuttle begins to power up.

"You're certainly like to bully your crew a lot." Elizabeth observes as the buckles into her seat.

"Ah, they can take it. We do go back and forth like this all the time." You explain.

"Heh, must be nice to have a crew like that." Elizabeth's normally cheerful smile is tainted with sadness for a brief second before returning to normal.

"We're coming up on the station, we'll be in range of their scanners soon." The shuttle pilot announces.

"Bradford, that's your cue. Shove off!" You command.

"Roger that, Captain." Bradford says with great reluctance. Outside the viewport, you could see the spacesuited infiltration team push off and float towards the station. With the combination of their small size and stealth features built into those suits, they should be able to slip past the station's sensors undetected.

Meanwhile, the shuttle rumbles as it touches down in one of the many hangar bays. The loading ramp lowers, and you see a trio of suited men standing at the bottom.

"Welcome to Gateway Station, Captain Wellings!" The lead man says cheerfully, putting on the casual airs of the businessman. His two associates, however, stood grim and stoic like any bodyguard should. "What would the Accord want to do with a humble trading station like ours?"

"Just window shopping." You say simply. "You certainly would have no problem against that, would you?"

"Of course not! We've always greatly benefited from our close relationship with the Accord!" The greeter says with his typical businessman cheer. "Now, I'm sure you already know this, but this station has a strict no weapons policy."

"We're not carrying anything." Elizabeth says.

"And while we have no objections to personal protection equipment like body armor, your... associate here has taken it to a rather... extreme level." The greeter eyes Tank nervously. "I do not want to sound rude, but would make us and our customers so much more comfortable if he were to remove it..."

Well, you knew for a fact that Tank would only remove his armor if somebody pried it off his corpse.

"W-what?!" The greeter blinks in surprise.

"That's right! He fought in ALL THREE Tannhauser campaigns!" You say, completely making up shit on the spot. "Took a plasma grenade to the face and got serious burns all over his body! This suit is the only thing keeping him alive right now!"

"I-is that so?" The greeter stammers.

"Now, don't tell me that the Guild is DISCRIMINATING against a potential customer just because he suffers from a serious physical disability?" You growl.

"N-no! It's quite all right! Forget we ever made the request!" The greeter bows in shame as he quickly backs away. "Please, enjoy our station's amenities!"

And with that, the Guild stooges were gone. You exhale loudly once you're sure they're gone. Your heart is pounding at the rate of a machine gun firing.

"That was pretty smooth talking there." Elizabeth smiles.

Tank gives you a thumbs up.

"Well, I kinda learned it from my sister." You shrug. "She was kinda a master of bullshitting anything and everything. Got us into as much trouble as it got us out of it."

Man, that really took you back. How many years has it been since you seen her? You barely even remember what her voice sounded like. Hell, you barely even remember what she LOOKED like. She was just a vague blob in your memories now, slowly slipping away as time went on...

"Hmmmm, sounds like an interesting girl." Elizabeth grins wryly. "I guess it's quite a pity you two were separated."

You raise an eyebrow at her.

"What, our background checks were VERY thorough." Elizabeth explains as if it should've been the most obvious thing. "And before you ask, no, not even we have pinned down her exact location."

Well damn.

You're nudged softly by Tank, who reminds you that you've still got a job to do.

"Come on, let's go!" Natalia says, with a devious smile on her face. "Eheheheh, I wonder if I can find some black market materials here. Even with military clearance restricted chemicals and biological material is always so hard to come by..."

Oh dear.

"Well, wherever we're going, we'll be sure to draw the Guild's eyes. It's not often an Accord Navy ship puts in." Elizabeth explains as she checks her watch. "The others should be landing right about now. Let's give them a show!"

Well, even if you were ultimately a distraction group, it couldn't hurt to try and gain some intel the legitimate way. Who knows, maybe you'll get lucky!

Hire a hooker, tell her we have a job and it doesn't involve sex!

She just needs to create a large scale distraction with her other hooker associates. Suggest a broadway style sing along down the main shopping district.

Our group can now hack without interupption if we get the timing right

"I'm thinking we hit up the shopping district." You say. "Who knows? Maybe we'll find the lobster right under our noses!"

"Hmmm, you do have a point." Elizabeth concedes.

You meandered through the station's market district, which was basically just a massive shopping mall, that was more badly lit, more crowded, and smellier than a regular mall. Everywhere, there was a crush of people buying all sorts of things. Volatiles like explosives and fuel, foodstuffs, weapons of all sorts, and even lots of devices and products that were restricted or outright illegal in the more "civilized" parts of the galaxy. This was truly a place where you could find anything and everything.

However, you were being stymied by the sheer amount of people moving around. Due to your smaller build and frame, you were finding it difficult to get through the crowd, constantly getting pushed around or brushed aside by passing traffic. Not through any sort of active purpose or malice, but simply because nobody seemed to even realize you were there.

You then get a tap on your shoulder. Tank looks down at you, wondering if you needed his assistance.

It was kinda tempting...

"Tank, help me out here." You say.

Tank nods, puts his large armored hands around your waist, and then lifts you up so you're sitting on his shoulders.

"HAHAHAHA! I'M FUCKING INVINCIBLE!" You laugh as Tank effortlessly plows through the crowd like a bull in a china shop. Nothing stops him as he easily shoves anybody unlucky to get his way without any noticeable effort. He's actually going through so fast that both Natalia and Elizabeth had to briskly pick up their pace to keep up.

"Is... is this common?" Elizabeth pants.

"Very." Natalia rolls her eyes. "The Captain's a bit insecure about her height."

"I AM NOT!" You shout at her.

"Says the woman riding on the shoulders of a nine foot armored behemoth like a child." Natalia shakes her head.

"YOU DON'T REALIZE HOW FUN THIS IS UNTIL YOU'VE TRIED IT!" You cackle as Tank bowls through another knot of people, sending them toppling over like dominoes.

"Certainly setting a good example for the Accord, I see." Elizabeth sighs in exasperation.

Yep, everything was going exactly as planned.

BTW, someone rolled a 17 for wacky mutations due to Breast flesh manipulation in the last thread.

So it's still possible.
