This is Boruto Quest, a quest set in the universe of Naruto. It is during the generation of Naruto's son, shortly after everyone has graduated from their Genin exam. I haven't kept up with the series beyond the end of the original one, so this one is intended to recapture the feel of that time of Naruto. I will not be incorporating the main show or the Boruto movie's plot into the quest, although some recognizable characters will be present. You play as a 12 year old Chunin graduate named Takeshi. You have been assigned a Jounin squad leader named Hanto, and your two squadmates are Kichiro, a young delinquent, and Ai, a strange social outcast of a girl. You are of average skill in most aspects, although your sharp intelligence, and your jack of trades skill set have brought you far. You have just recently graduated to a Chunin after winning the final tournament, and it is several days after. Your first mission as a Chunin is completed!

You're laying against the wall of the cave, still rather shaken up. It takes a little time, but soon enough the effects of the orb wear off on you and you're capable of moving onward. Standing up, the rest of your group waits for you at the mouth of the cave. Yasu calls out. "You ready, yet?"

Sarasu is holding tied up cloth, presumably with the orb concealed inside of it. You rub your face and step forward, joining them as they begin to move onward.

You step next to Sarasu, and he chuckles. "So, it showed you a vision of flowers?" The four of you are walking through the main gate of the camp, heading north again. A quick glance around sends a chill up your spine, as the voluminous smoke in the distance is surely a result of Sarasu's lone charge. You nod. "That's right. Can't really remember much more than that, though."

The old Jounin grumbles. "This whole situation has weird written all over it."

Naota looks over, curious. "What do you mean, Sensei?"

Sarasu turns his eyes back towards the path, before speaking. He seems to be deeply contemplating something. "Well, I knew Koji. He was a student of mine."

Takkun chuckles. "Not a very tough one, if we were able to beat him." To his left, Naota offers a counterpoint. "We only got lucky. Takeshi was able to provide a brief opening, and if we hadn't taken it, it'd be likely that we'd never have won. His Paralyzing Bells are really quite something, to be the downfall of even a Jounin.."
>>
Takkun puts a hand on your shoulder. "Hey, yeah, where do you learn a jutsu like that anyway? I've never seen such a thing."

Sarasu chuckles, quietly. "It's one of the jutsu that Orochimaru invented. He taught it to a few of his 'Sound Shinobi', if those vagabonds and science experiments could even really be called shinobi.."

Yasu undoes her ponytail, and draws a brush from her bag as she starts to straighten out here now frazzled hair. Electricity. "Makes sense that a worm like you would use a snake's jutsu."

You grumble, and Sarasu continues. "Regardless of Koji's skill, he wouldn't just, start a gang like this. He's always been a lone wolf, never a leader. I'm starting to think.."

A thought pops into your head. "Maybe the orb showed him something, and it really freaked him out. So he thought he'd need an army?"

Sarasu nods. "Exactly. Takeshi, it's my advice to you that you should seek out the meaning of this vision that you've had. It might help us understand this orb a bit better."

You agree, naturally. The throbbing sensation in your head won't let you forget the mental picture of the flowers.

Sarasu chuckles. "This is all reminding me of a story, that Hanto told me. It's all about how he failed his final exam, at the Academy."

Looking up, you blink. "Sensei failed?"

The grizzled Jounin nods. "Sure. Listen up, I'll tell what I heard from him on the way back to the village.."

Hours later, you arrive home. The men guarding the village gate smile as you all return safe, and you say your goodbyes to your squadmates for this mission. Yasu, Naota, and Takkun all go their separate ways while Sarasu, as the highest ranking shinobi, must file a report. He's presumably heading to the Hokage's office, as you yourself are heading home for a bit of rest. You sleep for a couple hours, and come outside in the early evening. Your brother greets you, and you tell him the events of the mission as he cooks up a small dinner.

You tell him how your squad managed to bring in a Jounin level missing nin, granted luck was a large factor.

Hideki grins. "You know, Takeshi, you say that a lot of your achievements are owed to luck. I don't remember, have I told you the phrase, 'luck is merely when opportunity presents itself to the willing?'?

You tell him that you might have heard that before somewhere, but you're not sure. You wash up from dinner, and decide to go on a walk. There's enough time to stop by one place for the night.

Prompted by the remainder of a headache, and the strong mental impression of several flowers, you decide to waste no time when it comes to discovering the meaning of your vision. The only known people in the village who may be able to assist you in this matter is the Yamanaka family, who own the Flower Shop. Of course, you know it to be more than that. It's also a medicinal facility, both in poisons and healing herbs.

It's a short trip there, and when you open the door, you're presented with a plethora of flowery scents. Immediately you feel relaxed and welcome, and the large number of colorful floral displays all around you are quite magnificent. You approach the counter, where a blond woman in her early thirties, with a waist length ponytail is leaning. She smiles. "Hello, I don't think I've seen you in here before. I do recognize you, though. You're Takeshi, the winner of the Chunin Exams! I'd like to give you a gift, as congratulations for passing."

She slides a gift box over to you, and urges you to open it. You do so with haste, quite thrilled at the sudden award. What's inside the cardboard box, is two vials. One is bright green, while the other is a cool blue. She taps her finger against the green one.

"Once this liquid is exposed to air, it will vaporize and expand rapidly. It's a poison, that when inhaled, will rapidly begin to wear on both the sense of balance and fatigue of the enemy."

She places her finger on the blue vial. "This, is a concoction designed to assist in medical procedures. It will accelerate the effect of a healing jutsu, when placed on a wound. You don't need to use a lot of it, but you do need to use a healing jutsu in conjunction."

You bow, and thank her deeply. She chuckles, and continues. "Now, what was it that you came here for? Were you going to purchase something?"

You have enough money to purchase two items. Pick one, or both from a category.

You decide to purchase both vials of the current specialty poison that they have in stock, and strap it your weapon holster. Now, you have four varieties of poison to work with. You're becoming quite adept in it's usage. After giving her the money, you decide to continue with the true reason you came here. You describe the vision of flowers that you had to the woman (She tells you her name is Ino, once you're done explaining.)

She nods. "I see. I believe I have some idea of what that vision may have been meaning. From what I understand, those flowers that you're describing were used by ancient clans, before the true formation of the Leaf Village, or any of the hidden villages. The clans that lived independently in these woods would use these flowers and herbs for spiritual guidance, and it is said that if you gather them and breath deeply of their smoke, your path shall become clear."

You scratch your chin, and blink. Jeez, this is a lot to take in. "Why am I the one who's gotten this vision?" you ask. All of this business about prophecies and sacred rituals isn't your normal forte.

Ino shrugs. "Who knows? It could be you might play an important role, somewhere, in the near future. If you like, I can specially order the flowers that you'd need for this ritual. They're not too expensive, thankfully. No real use other than this, heh."

You'd tell her that you'd love that, and thank you as you exit. As the night is drawing darker, you decide to head home and get some sleep after a long day. You find an envelope full of payment as you leave the front door, and your wallet is filled once again.

It's early morning, in the Leaf Village. You should stop by the Hokage's Office sometime today and see if there's any work for you to do.

You've sort of acquired a head start against most of the other Genin from your class. You know you can't waste a valuable lead like this, so ever studious you decide to head to the Academy and continue your research into the shinobi arts. The place is largely empty in the early day, as class is in session. In front of you are a variety of books, each containing a possible technique for you to research. That, or you could do a more general study and simply try to broaden your knowledge of a particular field. Extra knowledge can always come in handy.

You take the book from the shelf, and take a seat in the familiar chairs of the quiet library. You put your sharp mind to use, and begin to deeply analyze the information in the book about poison extraction and various methods of using the technique. It seems that using water as a conduit will make it vastly easier, as opposed to simply directly pulling the poison out. That is likely to cause minor injury, although it may be life saving in a pinch. It's important to note that most poison extractions do not entirely remove the poison, but rather the majority of the substance once it is gathered in a location by the practitioner. The effects of the poison may linger, but removing the source will cause it to eventually dissipate.

The technique is not particularly useful in battle, but it has saved many lives before.

After an hour or so of studying, you feel confident you understand the jutsu much more than before. You'll have to look for a chance with some hands on training.

You leave the Academy.

You decide to go to the Hokage's Office, and see Naruto. You knock and enter the door, and find him and a shadow clone both sorting through files, while a third writes at the desk. One, presumably the real one, steps forward and smiles. "Hey, Takeshi. Glad to see you've returned from your mission unharmed. As I expected, you played a crucial role. Not to mention, some sort of vision from what I heard?"

You nod.

Naruto sets down the file in his hand, and picks up a clipboard. He begins to make notes on it. "I see. It's rather interesting, because Sarasu and I both have reason to believe that Koji was being influenced by a vision from the orb. But now, it's sent you a message. Does this thing have some sort of motivation..?"

Shrugging your shoulders, you feel the situation is completely beyond you. The only thing you can really do is wait for Ino to order those flowers. You tell Naruto that you'll be pursuing the vision.

He sets down the clipboard, and returns to work. "Good. But, anyway, what was it you stopped by here for?"

You tell him that you were wondering what sort of work was coming up for you.
>>
Naruto grins. "I'm glad you asked. I was going to send someone to your house later this evening, so you could enjoy your day a bit, but I guess there's no harm in telling you now. You're going to be leading your own squad of Genin, on this mission. You will be leading Ollie Chan, Mari, and Roku in conjunction with a Sand Chunin and a squad of their finest Genin. This is primarily a search and rescue mission, although you're also ordered to help dispose of any remnants of the gang that has kidnapped the people of the Sand. From what I understand, the missing ninja from their village was once an apprentice of the Kazekage Gaara himself. This mission is going to be your first real test as a leader, don't you think?"

You gulp. A mission, with no Jounin to support you. Everyone's lives will be in your hands. Awesome, no pressure.

You thank Naruto, and tell him that you'll see him tomorrow. You head outside.

Kichiro grins, cracking his knuckles and taking his place across the training field, a good distance away from you. You're loaded up with all of your equipment, including weapons sealed on your wrist and a fuuma shuriken on your back. Not to mention a stock of poison. Thankfully the few Ninjutsu you know are Water Style, and should assist you in defending against Kichiro's powerful Fire Style.

He puts his fists up, and grins. "To start, I'll just use my normal Taijutsu. This will let us really showcase the results of our training to one another, eh?!"

He steps forward, stomping into the earth and sprinting. Your friend is fast, but not so much that you can't follow him. He swings with a hard right that you sidestep, and your jab into his ribs doesn't seem to have too much effect. He turns and strikes with his own left jab, and you're pushed back slightly as you block it. So, he's clearly superior in strength.

You spin on your heal and draw a kunai from your pack, and raise it up and point it to him as you take a combat stance. You crouch down slightly, ready to pounce at his first move. He watches you and steps to the side slowly, before attacking with a front kick.

You leap back, and counter with a horizontal swipe. The metal of your kunai glints as you barely cut through his pants, and a small splatter of blood hits the grass.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkS_w22lbEs

He puts his cut leg back behind him, and starts to form handsigns "Fireball Jutsu!"

You jump high unto the air using Shunshin, vanishing from the spot you were standing in seconds before. It's engulfed in a stream of flame as Kichiro holds his hand to his mouth, and you have a moment to counter.

As fast as you can, you preform the handsigns for the Water Bullet Jutsu. At once, water fills your mouth and is expelled as three large bullets of liquid, and they crash on Kichiro's position. Your friend leaps back, step by step, narrowly avoiding them as they explode against the earth. He looks up, and leaps, and moments later you've found a mid-air combatant in your face. Kichiro swings in with a full strength kick, and you raise your arms up to block it. You're sent crashing to the ground, spinning. You luckily land on your feet and slide, although your forearms sting from the blow.

He lands on the ground, and quickly starts to sprint after you. He's relentless and aggressive, and every bit as fast as you are plus a good bit more strength. You draw a series of senbon from your pack and fire them off one by one as he rushes you down, forcing him to dance and dodge and giving you a bit of time to breath.

Kichiro steps around your last throw, but you duck under his punch. You've got a moment to react. What do you do?

You do the handsigns for the Haze Clone Jutsu, and dozens of clones of yourself immediately appear in the area, surrounding Kichiro. Sprinting forward, you narrowly evade a swipe and disperse into the the crowd. You turn around and see your sparring partner forming handsigns of his own, and look around you for cover. The clones move around in circular patterns, obscuring your location well.

"Phoenix Flower Jutsu!"

A torrent of fireballs is released from Kichiro's mouth, and they spread out in a fan in front of him. You instruct all of the clones to make it look as if they're dodging them, so that you can do so without drawing particular attention to yourself.

Once his attack is finished, he frowns. "You're making me have to turn up sooner than I'd like, ya' know!"

He straightens up his stance slightly, and takes a deep breath. "I'll show you my Dragon Boxing, then. These are the techniques that Hanto showed me!"

Kichiro's hands and feet become engulfed in flames, and as he takes a step forward, his heel brightens with fire as he's launched forward. He jumps high into the air. "Take this!!"

With rapid left and right jabs, he launches mid sized fireballs from his fists in a random pattern throughout the field. Your clones are destroyed in bursts, and take a bit of your chakra to reform them. None of the blasts come close to you, but this destructive power doesn't bode well.

Kichiro lands, and he preforms a sweeping kick. A crescent of fire explodes from his foot, and starts tearing through your clones. It's coming directly at you!

would throwing them through the flames actually make them better, it would heat them and make them harder to see.
>>
You hit the dirt, and draw a handful of shuriken from your weapon pouch. The heat singes you clothes as the crescent of fire passes just overhead, and you kneel and throw the weapons in your fingers. Kichiro leaps up into the air again towards you, and spins his body to bring his foot down for a powerful axe kick. A torrent of fire gathers on the ball of his heel, before being launched directly at you, downward.

Leaping to the side, you narrowly avoid the fiery explosion.

You stumble to your feet, but when Kichiro lands, the fiery jets on his feet propel him to you in an instant. It's no use attempting to block the fire on his fists, so you react in the only way that you can think to at the moment.

You draw a kunai in one hand, and your reformed Haze Clones all leap forward to join you in the combat.

Kichiro punches and kicks through the crowd, dispersing large groups with each attack. You roll through another punch and launch the kunai in your hand towards his midsection, but he chops down with his fiery hand and deflects it.

He turns. "There you are!!"

Kichiro pulls both of his arms back, and thrusts both fists forward at the same time. A large fireball, twice the size of the ones before you, strikes the ground directly in front of you. The resulting explosion sends you flying back, and tumbling against the ground as your vision blurs.

You groan, and stand up while dusting yourself off. Kichiro grins. "Had enough?"

You smile. "Of course not."

Flying through the signs for the Hydro Sword technique, you summon a blade of water into the palm of your right hand. It condenses and holds still, as sharp as any steel from every angle. You're not quite as strong as Kichiro, but maybe now with a real defense in close range combat you'll have a chance to finish this before things get too dire. Your Haze Clones all surround Kichiro and block his vision as well as they can, while you rush forward. You notice that your haze clones have illusory Hydro Blades, as well.

Kichiro seems to have lost sight of you again, as he fights through the insubstantial crowd. You note how powerful each one of his attacks really is, and that even a normal jab from his Dragon Boxing would probably nearly finish you if it hit directly.

You charge in from the side, but it seems that Kichiro was able to hear your footsteps. He turns and holds up his hands to block, but his arms simply get slashed as blood sprays against the grass gently. It's not too deep, but it must sting nonetheless.

He grits his teeth, and claps his hands together suddenly. A sphere of flames bursts from around him, and dissipates most of the clones and sends you on your back.

Your jutsu disperses when you hit the ground, and Kichiro is panting. "Phew..Okay, I think that's enough for now. Don't wanna actually hurt each other, hehehe! Great fight though!"

You smile, and nod, once you sit up.

You feel as if your skill with Ninjutsu has improved slightly. (+)

So what were our team mates reactions to us getting made lead without jonin support?

>>45689615
Just add the +.

Your team isn't surprised you're leading a mission. You're a Chunin, and it's not uncommon for them to lead Genin.

You have the most Ninjutsu techniques out of anything. It's simply that they're spread across a broad spectrum of utility, so it doesn't feel like a whole bunch

But your versatility means that it makes it easier to learn more advanced techniques. You have experience in the field of Ninjutsu, while your Genjutsu skill is less developed, although it gets an enhancement from your good chakra control.

Which girl meshes best with Takeshi jutsu/tactics wise?
>>
>>45693853
Tactics wise? None of them. They all are stick in flashy ninja mode. That said Yasu would be a great complimentary foil to us in a fight. Mary would be a great help with sensory and good supporting range and vicious cqc. Ai's combining with us has already been game theory's thoroughly. Honestly the girl who'd be the worse fit are the puppeteer and Sarada.
>>
>>45693853
Tough question.

I can't think of a single female character that is a poison-slinging, bastard trickster. Though I haven't read the manga since I was little babby anime fan.

The closest character in general would probably be Shikamaru, except we're FAR more ballsy/reckless.
>>
>>45694122
Sarada is the closest to Takeshi skills wise. Medical training and automatically having amazing genjutsu because of sharingan
>>
>>45694122

That can actually make for a GREAT duo, though.
She's big and flashy to draw attention, we're a cunning bastard who slips up from behind while you're distracted and stabs you in the fucking kidneys.
>>
>>45693853

As we saw in that mission Yasu compliments us almost perfectly. Nothing like a Juggernaut to make a scene for the sneaky bastard.
>>
>>45694143
True but we use opposing elements and anything one would be brought in for, the other could do. Making teaming them up a bad idea. The others have strengths that support ours or vice versa.

>>45694152
True but that requires coordination and them not being gung ho iguanas. tacticians hate leeroys.

>>
>>45695887
All of our potential summons will give opportunities for ancient and unique jutsu. Saying "It will give us ancient jutsu" is a shit justification to go for one summon over the others because ALL of them will be able to provide that sort of knowledge.

>>
>>45696422
Poor owl
What is the advantage of being a sage by the way?
>>
>>45696530
Sages have access to incredibly powerful jutsu and summons, they can also enter into sage-mode which boosts everything about the ninja and gives them regeneration.
>>
>>45696530
Been a while since I read Naruto, but as far as I remember it lets you generate chakra from the nature energies or some bullshit, and then use that for some pretty broken techniques.

>>
>>45696572

>>
>>45696592
The only "downside" I can see is that you actually have to convince the summons to let you train under them to become a sage.
>>
>>45696617
>>45696623

Rat is beginning to look more favorable but unless it is easily learned, the it is still balanced.

>>
>>45696629

>>45696906

>>
>>45696572
Mostly it's hard to learn, the learning CAN kill you, and you have to convince your summons to train you. If you can convince them, not die from Nature Chakra, and sink the time to learn, you get a S class ninja who's very dangerous.
>>
>>45696572
Potentially turning into a animal and then a statue
>>
>>45696572
Nature Chakra is essentially poison. Or steroids.

It's steroid chakra. You take too much and don't carefully regulate it, you get fucked up. If you can handle it, there's no downside.
>>
>>45696690
Since training for Toad sage gave Naruto more Ninjutsu, made him a lot better at taijutsu, and gave him better sensory abilities, I doubt that's how it will go. More likely they will be facets of Takeshi's personality that will be focused on.

>Tiger
>determination, ferocity, endurance

>>
>>45699068
I dunno

Kinda want Mini to railroad us a bit into a specialisation, just give us a few options for mentors or something like that because without those we will just be amassing a broad spectrum of average jutsu. Luckily for us though most people at our level are able to be beaten by it
>>
>>45696530
Take note that just because the Owls do not currently have a human sage doesn't mean that you wouldn't learn Sage Mode from them
>>
>>45698851
I don't run based on the quest length. I run based on time.

I try not to run for less than four hours, but if the thread's slow the thread's slow. I still have to go to sleep when I have to.

Sometimes I have shitloads of posters and the threads reach 500+, other times it's a handful of people and they don't get too large, but all in all, I run for about the same amount of time
>>
>>45696690
The summons aren't really going to be too huge of a factor until later. You wouldn't be learning sage mode immediately from them, and it's gonna take some time to build up trust.

For all three summons, you'll just be summoning a tiny animal to start.

After your training is complete, you figure that you've got enough time for one more activity today. With not much else going on, and a mission early the next morning, you decide to head to the Special Weapon's shop and see Ten Ten. You have a mission with her daughter tomorrow, as well, so it might be wise to ask for some advice.

You enter, and Ten Ten smiles and welcomes you. "Hey there, champ! I was hoping I'd see you, today. I've got something special for you."

You walk over to the counter. "Hi, Ten Ten. What's that?"

She reaches under the counter and sets a closed wooden box from the display on it, and opens it up with a tiny bronze key. Inside is what seems to be a tanto. A short, straight blade that's used for close quarters combat situations. Easily concealable. Somewherebetween a kunai and a katana.

She smiles. "I thought this would suit your style, so I had it made. Consider it both a gift for winning, and a reward for your continued patronage at my shop."

You chuckle, and thank her deeply as you sling the weapon on your waist.

You'll have to spend some time really learning how to use this thing.

Ten Ten returns to the register. "Now, is there anything else you wanted?"

First thing's first, you pay the prices necessary to refill you stocks of basic essential equipment. You also have the cash to purchase an explosive tag. You might be able to buy extra, but you're going to wait until you're completely done shopping to spend all of your money on them. You get one of your slightly damaged Fuuma Shuriken replaced for a fee, and refill your stock of generic poison. You also get a refill of flash bombs.

You still haven't had any need to use the soldier pills on your wristbands, thankfully.

Ten Ten also presents you with a green flak jacket, which you promptly don. It's not too heavy, and will protect you somewhat against light arms, and has additional compartments for equipment. You shouldn't rely on it's defense, however.

You ask Ten Ten if she has anything that she thinks might be particularly useful to you. She seems to think for a few moments. "Well, you've got a pretty wide variety of equipment already. Frankly, you're a walking swiss army knife."

You nod. "I see. Well, is there any sort of special tech that you guys might be developing? I should be looking for any edge I could get."

Ten Ten crosses her arms, and shuts her eyes for a few seconds. "Hmm..There is something we've been working on lately, but it's still in development. It's based on technology cross-developed between the Leaf Shinobi and the Samurai during the last war, that never got fully developed. It's designed to be used with a much larger blade, but.."
>>
>>45706027

She goes into the back, and shortly returns with a metal case. She unlatches it and places what seems to be an oddly bulky, mechanical sword sheath with a normal katana in it. She ties the sheath to her waist, and continues to speak. "In an attempt to give the less powerful samurai a chance of competing with shinobi, they were developing this sheath to enhance the power and speed of their sword swings through thrust."

She takes a wide stance, and grips the katana. She presses a button on the hilt, and fire and wind blast around the room as the sheath expels the sword with incredible speed. She swings it once, and cuts the very air with a whipcrack.

You give her the money to begin developing the jet sheath, and you take your leave. All in all, you feel it was a successful day as you head home. Your brother is away at work, so you cook yourself a simple dinner and soon head to sleep after watching your favorite comedy series about delinquent highschoolers, though you're not quite sure who Freddy Mercury is.

The next morning, you wake up and head out to your mission. You're prepared with weapons sealed on both wrists, your Fuuma Shuriken on your back, and tanto on your waist.

Instead of simply heading to the village gate and waiting for the Jounin to arrive, you're going to have to go to the Hokage's office first. You're going to be the leader. You step outside and soon meet with Naruto, in his office.

The Hokage tells you the locations of the captured refugees. From what you've been told, the mission zone is the remnants of a previous battle, and you're simply looking for survivors along with your Sand allies. If excessive enemy force is encountered, your orders are to retreat and request back up. In particular you've been warned of a high level Ex-Sand Shinobi, who is skilled with Sealing Jutsu and is an old disciple of the Kazekage.

You receive a map to the rendezvous point at the border. From there, the Sand Chunin and his squad will direct you to the mission zone.

Thanking Naruto, you head to the village gate and wait for your team.

In moments, Ollie Chan arrives. He smiles, and greets you. "Hello, Takeshi! I wish to congratulate you on your astounding victory in the exams. You are truly a shinobi to look up to!"

You can't help but blush and laugh at such over the top flattery, as you rub the back of your head. "Well thanks, Ollie. Good to see that you've arrived a bit early. I can go ahead and give you some of the mission details."
>>
>>45706633
You tell him all of the information that you'd just been given, and he nods. "I see. This seems to be a mission of a more serious caliber than usual. It makes sense why you were chosen to lead my squad."

"Oh? Why's that?" you inquire."

He smiles. "Isn't it obvious? They want you there, to be able to make the smart decisions like retreating if needed. Not to mention, you and Roku are both medical shinobi. Mari will be able to locate survivors with ease, and as always, I'm the muscle I suppose. It makes me curious how the Sand team will support us."

You nod. "It seems they pick the squads for these missions rather carefully."

Soon, Mari and Roku both arrive. Roku seems to be annoying Mari, although she looks too tired and disgruntled to really care. She gives you a small wave, and Roku chuckles. "Boy, do I feel like I jackass. I taunted you so hard in the preliminaries, then you go and show me up by winning the whole damn thing, hehe.."
>>
>>45706626
Also the thing that's literally gotten us every win we've had.
>>
>>45706655
Roku rubs the back of his head.

He elbows Mari. "Speaking of which, shouldn't someone else be saying the same thing?"

She slaps him harshly, causing him to spin and take a step away as she yells. "CAN IT!"

She crosses her arms, and pouts for all of a moment, before exhaling in a sigh. "I want to say you just got lucky like before, but luck doesn't just constantly prevail like this. I suppose I should show a little humility."

She grins. You do too, for a moment, before looking over at Roku. "So why'd you hit him?"

Mari frowns. "Just because he had a point doesn't mean I need to tolerate his nonsense. Trust me, he'll begin to drive you crazy soon enough."

You look at your squad. They're an interesting bunch.

The four of you head out. You ask your squad if they have any standard formation procedures for travelling, and Mari replies.
"Just me. As long as whoever is in the back is paying attention to the rear, I have a cover on us from all other angles. I take the front too, so I can see ahead. If you want me to scout ahead at any point, I can do that too. My Byakugan can see for quite a distance.

She takes the front, and you nod. "Noted. What about you guys?"

Ollie smiles. "I shall take the rear, and you and Roku take center point."

They know what they're doing. "You guys have a pretty well thought out strategy, huh?"

Roku nods. "Lee sensei is a good teacher. What he lacks in Ninjutsu skill he makes up with skill and wisdom."

You travel without incident, for most of the way. Mari's eyes give you confidence that your squad is safe, and so far it's simply been a hike through the woods. Eventually the trees give way to plains as you make your way through the Land of Grass, to reach the Sand Border.

It's here that you Rendezvous with your allies. They're already waiting for you at the gate, and it's easy to recognize them. Kasagi, Mataro, and Saitama. The three Sand Genin. You're happy to see that Kasagi doesn't have an eyepatch where you'd gotten her with the senbon.

The fourth is a boy clearly a couple years older than you, wearing a tan flak jacket. He has dark paint around his eyes like a raccoon, and earthy, maroon hair. It's spiky, as well. He's wearing simple black clothing underneath his flak jacket. You notice he has two large metal capsules attached to his waist. What could they hold inside?

He approaches as he sees you, almost emotionaless. "You must be Takeshi, the Leaf Chunin. My name is Katsuro, Chunin of the Sand and Son of the leadoer of the Puppet Corps, Kankuro. My Uncle is the Fifth Kazekage, Gaara. I trust you've been filled in on the mission details. Me and my squad are preparing to-"

Kasagi bursts into the scene, knocking aside Katsuro and grabbing you by the shirt and lifting you up. "My eye!! You cost me my eye, you punk!!"

She shaking you rapidly, and you look down in confusion. "But it looks fine!"

She drops you, and benders over to look you in the eye as she places her hands on her hips. "It's cybernetic! I had to have it designed, and it costs a pretty penny."

You now notice that one of her iris's are red, and the pupil is rapidly dilating and retracting as it examines you carefully. You can see very small hints of the cybernetic components moving around. You blink, astounded. "You built that?"

Mataro steps forward. "Yeah, Kasagi's a whiz when it comes to that sort of stuff."

Saitama nods. "She's even improved some of my equipment, as of late. I can't wait to show it off!"

Katsuro grumbles. "Settle down, everyone. First we need to plan a bit. Let's discuss some strategy in case we encounter the enemy."

>A. We should split into several teams to cover the most grounds, and pair teams based on abilities.
>B. We should move as one group, in a large formation built for defense. Use Mari's sight to scan the area.

"To be fair, if I hadn't, I'd be a thin red paste right now."

She slightly 'hmphs' before responding. "It'd be moldy and dry, by now."

Ignoring that, you suggest splitting into two parties, and everyone seems to agree with your suggestion. Katsuro and his team take the left path, while yours takes the right. Before you depart, he gives you a little more information on the area.

"It's mostly just rocky desert out here, but there's a significant number of caves in this particular area in the rock formations. You'll have Mari to see them and sniff them out, while we'll rely on Mataro underground, and Kasagi in the air."

You give him a thumbs up, and depart with your team. "Sounds good. We'll see you back here!"

Leaving the border, you travel along the path for about ten minutes until you come through the canyon passage into a mostly open desert, except for large rock formations. It creates a vast maze, with caves leading through and into the rocks on several sides. You walk forward timidly, and ask Mari to activate her Byakugan. She does she, and immediately states that she sees both survivors and potential enemies, looting corpses.

Going through a couple handsigns, you activate the False Sound Jutsu on your allies so that you can communicate with them silently, until you need to cast a new Genjutsu. You mentally speak to everyone at once. "Alright, this is how I'm going to direct orders to you if I can keep it this way. Mari, where's the nearest survivor?"

"That large rock formation, to the right. There's two people in there laying down, wounded."

"Then we'll go there, first." you tell everyone. "Is there any opposition nearby?"
>>
>>45708088
She nods. "What seems to be three enemy shinobi are also in the cave. They haven't seemed to notice the wounded, who are hidden behind boulders, but we should hurry."

You run forward, at full speed. "Then let's go!"

What will your plan of attack be? There are three enemy shinobi in a stone tunnel, that goes completely through a large rock. There are two survivors, wounded within. The tunnel is roughly thirty meters in length.

>A. Have Saitama attack from behind. Go as fast as he can. Mari and Ollie will guard you as heal the survivors.

Could we use false sound to make it sound like there's more than a few people rushing in from Ollie's direction?
>>

If you want to lose the genjutsu you have on your team mates you can. It's up to you, trading mental communication for a mental attack.

"Me, Mari, and Saitama will go around to the other side and attack from behind. Ollie, do you think you can distract them long enough to give us an opening?"

He responds with a sharp thumbs up, and winks. "I am on the job! See you all soon!"

Ollie runs over at full speed, blasting a bit of dust away. He runs into the cave past the survivors, according to Mari, and engages the enemy. You and everyone else is on the movie, and Saitama bursts ahead at high speed and reaches the mouth of the cave. He leans in and looks, and looks back at you and Mari and quickly urges you forward with a silent hand motion. The both of you arrive moments later, and when you look in, you can see Ollie speaking to the three enemy shinobi. From what you can see they are all Ex-Sand, wearing flak jackets. They're at least Chunin, then. "I will show you something interesting! I think you will be very impressed.."

There are boulders to your left, and presumably the survivors are just behind there.

The Missing Ninja respond to Ollie. "Who the hell is this weird looking kid!? He's got a Leaf Headband on, so he must be a Genin, right??"

The others nod. "Let's kidnap him, and take him for a ransom!"

Ollie smiles. "Here is what I wish to show you!"

He drops the weights that he had taken from his legs, and instantly an explosion of dust fills the entire cave. Mari's eyes go wide, and she rushes in with two kunai. You and Saitama can't see anything, and simply watch for a few moments as you hear the sound of steel on flesh. The dust clears away moments later, and Mari is seen standing over three enemy bodies.
>>
>>45708665

You and Saitama rush over, and you kneel over the wounded survivors. You use your Mystical Palm technique to heal their wounds as well as you can, and soon they're in walking condition. Mari chuckles. "You're not quite as fast with that technique as Rokue is, you know. It's surprising you were able to beat him."

The survivors stand. You also do, and turn to her. "Well, healing doesn't really help in a fight, does it?"

You look back to the survivors. "You guys should go back, to the path. Follow it until you reach the border, and the guards there will take you in for some real medical treatment. You can make it, right?"

The one on the right seems mostly fine, but the left is having difficulty standing. The one on the right looks nervous. "I'm not sure..He might have trouble making it all the way there. What'll we do if we just collapse again??"

After a moment of thinking, you open up the compartment in your wrist and empty out a soldier pill. You give it to the wounded survivor, and he crunches it and swallows. Seconds later, he's bursting with energy! They both set off to the border, safe.

Mari is using her Byakugan. "I see another two enemy soldiers heading our way. Also, Katsuro's team is currently in combat, although they seem to be fine. What should we do?"

You think for a second. "Well, where are the next survivors."

"North. We'll have to go through these guys."

>A. Everyone attack! Overwhelm them.

You give your commands to everyone, silently. "Let's attack from a distance. Ollie, I want you to stay on guard and try to defend against any attacks we don't see coming. Hopefully, we'll be able to get the jump on them and take them out before they have a chance to react."

Your team nods, showing they recognize your orders. At your lead, you all run out into the open and confront the two other Ex-Sand shinobi, who widen their eyes in surprise. "Leaf Ninja! Retreat!"

They turn to run, but they have little chance of escaping the attack that you have planned. Mari opens up her kimono and starts to rapidly attack with a series of kunai, shuriken, and senbon. You throw your own storm of kunai and shuriken, while Saitama throws two of his special exploding shuriken.

First, they're cut down by steel, then the explosion rockets their bodies to the side and crumples them completely. The enemy is defeated, thanks to your orders.

You turn to your team. "Mari, how's Katsuro's squad doing."

"Just fine."

You nod. "Then let's keep going!"

You rush forward, and move around to the other side of the northern rock formation, into a wide, central area. There is a survivor leaning against a rock wall, with a bleeding arm. Your squad begins to run over, but the survivor starts to speak. "N-no! Stay..away..!"

>>
You all stop, dead in your tracks. Silently, you ask Mari if she sees anything out of the ordinary.

She shakes her head. "There isn't-, no wait, I see something! It's glowing, it..get down!!!"

The explosive seal on the body of the survivor goes off, and he's dispersed into a red mist, as chunks of the rocky surface above him break apart and crumbles. The formation is toppling down on top of you and your team, and there's only one way to go directly behind you. You panic for a moment, but you see that both Ollie and Saitama have the speed to easily escape.

You, however, turn and nearly stumble as you begin to run. The shadow of the rock comes over you, and you start to focus your chakra for a Shunshin. You're nearly there, but you can feel the wind of the stone behind you, death impending.

"Rotation!"

Another explosion of wind, and inches to your left, Mari's rotation blasts away the rubble that was going to crush you as you hit the ground. It all continues to fall, and her Rotation blasts away the stone, destroying it completely before it can harm you or her.
>>
>>45709716

Seconds later, all is calm. You stand up, in the center of a clear circle among a pile of rubble. Saitama and Ollie both leap next to you, and you sigh. "That was way too close. Thanks for the cover, Mari. We'll have to watch out, if we don't want to get seriously injured out here."

Saitama puts a hand to his chin. "That sealing jutsu was quite powerful. Could this be the work of the elite shinobi that was said to be present?"

You groan. "Hopefully not. It seems like I've had to fight an elite shinobi every mission, these days.."

Mari chuckles. "Not up to the task of a Chunin, eh?"

You perk up. "Of course I am! I became one, didn't I? Let's keep moving! It's too bad we couldn't save this man, but there must be others in the area."

Mari holds her Byakugan for a few seconds, and turns back. "That's right. In fact, there's two large groups on the move. One coming for us, and the other hearding towards Katsuro's team. The largest chakra signature is going towards Katsuro's team. However, in the distance, there is also a large number of survivors with few guards. Most of the remaining enemy forces are attacking, after all this commotion."

You tell everyone to start running to the other team's position, and you all take off in a sprint. Naturally, Ollie and Saitama take the lead while you and Mari are at the rear. Looking to the left, you can see the mass of charging shinobi. It must be roughly fifty or so, a truly formidable force if they're all Chunin level.

Silently, you question where all of these people have come from. Of course, you don't really know that much about the Sand Village, so maybe there's an excess of ninja. Your team starts to run directly up the rock wall that separates the left and right halves the canyon, before it converges into one in the north, where the survivors are.

It must be over a hundred feet tall, and your heart thumps in your chest as you race up it vertically. You're glad you've spent plenty of time honing the tree walking technique, or this fundamental part of the battle would be impossible to complete.

Your team reaches the top, and you can see Kasagi flying in the distance, blue flames supporting her hovering. She fires a myriad of weapons into a distant crowd, and beneath them you see Katsuro's squad. This side of the canyon is mostly open, and Mari tells you she sees four survivors on the retreat.

You look behind you, and see the force pursuing.

You glance over the cliff, and an idea strikes your mind. You tell everyone to back up a few steps and wait, as you draw out many senbon with bells and wire attached and throw them down to your feet. The enemy is charging directly up the wall of the cliff, and it seems after several seconds they spot you. You begin to charge your jutsu, beads of sweat on your brow dropping as you concentrate. If you blow it here, it could be a critical point of the mission.

There's no choice but to succeed. The chakra reaches the bells and envelops them, and you preform your technique with a pull.

The sound of the ringing bell is brought forth in a huge wave of your chakra, mustering the most you can to give the jutsu as much strength as you possibly can. Sure enough, the wall of sound freezes every enemy shinobi on the walls and on the ground as they were charging.

Some start to fall off the cliff face, and you've delayed them momentarily. You decide not to stop there, however, and slap down an explosive tag on the cliff face. You look down at the helpless enemy. "If you survive, don't even try to come after us!"

You leap into the air, and set off the explosion. Rocks tumble down the cliff to crush the enemy, dozens at once being destroyed.

The secondary force is largely obliterated, and your team looks at you, stunned.

You re-establish your False Sound Jutsu with them, and tell everyone to quick go meet Katsuro's team. You rush over and approach him, calling out. Kasagi is above, firing weapons into the approaching army, and Mataro is elsewhere, presumably wreaking havoc on enemy forces. Katsuro looks at you grimly. "They're holding them off for the moment, but this force seems to have some sort of invisible defense system supporting them. A barrier sealing jutsu. It's leading me to believe that Hotaka is among them, in which case, we have a real battle on our hands.."

>A. We should all fight to our fullest ability, and focus on taking out the army first. Attack head on.
>B. Let's hold our position, and try to eliminate as many as we can before they reach us with ranged attacks.
>C. I'll ask Mari to single out the leader, and we can all focus on attacking them.

Probably have one team facing down the mooks, one after the big bad, I'd think

Also share the fact that there are bomb seals in survivors

Singeing ourselves out isn't a good idea

Gather everyone and retreat. Naruto told us to get reinforcements if we run into to much trouble

Yeah do not mess with the guy who's a tactical adept and really does not care for singular glory or honor. He doesn't play nice.

"Let's try to take as many out as we can with ranged attacks, and break through whatever barrier they have. Anyone who can't fight at range, focus on defense!"

Katsuro nods. "A sound plan. Let's take it into action."

You draw a kunai, but the maroon haired boy next to you steps forward.

He flips open the tips of the two capsules on his sides, and black iron sand is drawn from them. It flows out and hovers above him like a cloud, until he clenches his fists. At once, the sand condenses into over a hundred black senbon, and Katsuro waves his hand forward gently.

"Magnet Style: Drizzle!"

The needles rush forward in a storm, clattering against an invisible barrier. Instead of simply falling to the ground, the iron sand instead disperses and rushes back to Katsuro. His eyes narrow. "So, there's the barrier..Everyone! Concentrate your efforts on this point!"

Saitama throws a hail of explosive shuriken, and Kasagi lands and places the hands of her suit together. The mechanism collapses and unfolds to reveal cannon of some sort, and on the sides, two barrels extend. They blast wind rapidly and rotate around the center barrel, before an explosion of fire rockets forth.

The twisting barrels spraying wind carry the fire, and it expands into a colossal orange and red cloud of pain. It crashes into the barrier just as the exploding shuriken do, not quite having broken it.

Katsuro pulls his hands back, and makes a tight fist. The iron sand in the air reforms into a single giant spear, and he pushes forward with all of his might, a vein throbbing on his head. "Magnet Style: Bolt!"

The spear is propelled through the air by an invisible force, piercing the flame before crashing into whatever barrier had been there and shattering it completely. At this, Mari draws open two scrolls from her robe. "Alright, now it's my turn! Twin Dragon Scroll Release!"

She leaps into the air, and rapidly rotates using her chakra as the scrolls start to fire a series of swords, shuriken, kunai, bombs, axes, spears, arrows, and weapons of every sort. The enemy shinobi force is by far eliminated, until the dust clears, and you see a single shinobi remaining in the distance.
