You can make out the skyline of Marqash in the distance, the crowning dome of the Marble Palace rising triumphant amongst a forest of tall, white spires. Marqash is the Shahdom's second city, not only in terms of population but in terms of cultural importance and architectural splendor as well. It has a reputation abroad as a city of artist and musicians, who are drawn to its many historical monuments and surviving examples of Hiacian craftsmanship. For those same reasons, a disproportionate number of Vatis choose to make their home within the confines of its Floating District, though El-Amin remains a pilgrimage site throughout the Shahdom due in large part to its Grand Library.

Your thoughts turn reluctantly from the splendor of the city before you to the woman with whom you may soon share a child. {Really Aisha, you should have figured that out the moment I started beating you with my own severed arm. An arm, which I might add, that I cut off myself for the express purpose of beating you with it. All of the warning signs were there and you ignored them.}

She grows defensive, though thanks to the brooch you can tell it's simply a front. {Look, who hasn't ripped off their own arm and beaten someone with it from time to time? It's a strategy one might employ to surprise the enemy or drive them towards suicide with horrid puns. Both tactics certainly worked out for you, considering your victory in our duel.}

{My puns weren't horrid.} You protest. {Besides, I was hardly the only one making them. Your little “contest of arms” comment was dreadful.}

A silence grows between the two of you, some of the mirth draining from Aisha's thoughts as her mind turns to more serious topics. {So you're serious about accepting the child as your own? I mean, you could get in a lot of trouble if word got out you fathered a child with one of the Aghtaki.}

She brings up a good point, but you'd already considered the danger inherent when consorting with Aghtaki. {Obviously I won't go shouting from the rooftops that you're the mother, I've no desire to watch my corpse twitch as my head is carried off by a crowd of celebrant onlookers.} Though, it might provide you an opportunity to experiment with maintaining the mind once separated from the vessel of the soul. {There will certainly be rumors that I fathered the child and some may speculate the mother is an Aghtaki, but I'd be willing to bet that most will simply assume I keep a mistress just like all the other Vatis in El-Amin.}

Aisha seems to accept this, though her thoughts are still plagued with anxiety. {You will visit me in Anthus, won't you? I do not dare to entertain any notion that I may one day return to El-Amin, my brand has become too much a part of who I am to simply scour it off and grow new flesh as you've done, but I would hate for my child to grow up never knowing their mother.}

>Of course you'll visit, you have a ready excuse to visit Anthus in the form of your investments in the city so you could likely manage to avoid drawing too much attention.
>If it's convenient you won't avoid her, but it would be unwise to meet with any sort of regularity. It would endanger not only yourself but the child as well.
>This is all assuming that Anthus hasn't been scorched black by dragon fire by this time next year. Why worry yourselves with this now?
>You honestly don't think it would be wise for her to be seen with the child, Anthus and El-Amin are only a few days journey from one another by sea and word might spread that she's the mother.

>>
>>45661478
There's some wiggle room in the law code since it doesn't specify non-Samjan, it just says "no fucking the lesser races", which obviously refers to humans and elves. Until recently these were the only other races of sentients commonly known to Samjan (Interactions with Voibardians are fairly sparse, though their raids aren't entirely unheard of). This same oversight is present in laws concerning the adoption of children.

Thus, the argument is going to be that dragons cannot be numbered among the lesser races.

A difficult proposition. Of course, you want the mother of your child to have some involvement in their life. Yet, her nature as an Aghtaki complicates matters. If anyone could ever gather any amount of proof that she was the mother, this version of you would be destined for Pani's warm embrace. The child would be forced to flee or face the same fate. {I'll visit when I can. My business in Anthus gives me a ready excuse. However, I might recommend leaving Anthus for a time. Not only so that none will be aware of the fact you're with child, but also simply due to the city's predicament.}

That seems to sit poorly with Aisha, her unease filtering through the connection afforded to you by the brooches. {It would seem cowardly to simply flee, simply because there's a threat of starvation if the city isn't relieved in a few month's time. For now life continues as always, with perhaps a notable undertone of fear throughout the populace. Refugees do not crowd the docks nor stream from the city's gates. Besides, I'm probably safer inside the walls than out. Based upon what little we've heard, it seems as though Licae has been under near constant attack for most of the last week.}

All it takes is the vaguest of thoughts to send Zahak slowly descending towards the coastline below. You're still probably an hour from Marqash, but you'll want to give the guards at the gate plenty of time to gather up a welcoming party. {That may well be true, but you need not stay within the borders of Anthosian influence. Chiron is just a short distance to the north and it's been spared both Voibardian raids and draconic assault. Why not seek safety there?}
(1/3)
>>
>>45662015
What dream world do you live in? We are going to be lucky if we make it into the city today.
>>
Irritation flickers briefly to the forefront of her thoughts, but subsides only a few moments later. {I would need to secure passage to Chiron or go by foot, neither is exactly what I'd call an easy task. I haven't seen a single cart leave the city since the siege began, or at least not one that didn't become another plume of black smoke on the horizon. Foot travel is no better, the dragons have their young stalking through the plains hunting any who stray too far from the walls. For now, I think I'll fare better within the walls than outside of it.}

You let the issue drop for now, after all if need be you could always simply erect a shrine and make use of the Cat's realm to quickly travel back to Anthus. {We can speak of this further some other time, but I'm approaching the gates of Marqash.} In truth you've still got time, but you think they might be rolling out a ballista and you'll want to devote your full attention to making sure Zahak doesn't get impaled by a six foot bolt of iron. {Regardless of what you decide, I'm glad to hear you're doing well. Be careful in the coming months.}

Her response is brief, but colored with affection all the same. {I can take care of myself, but thank you all the same. Do avoid selling your soul or losing your mind until next we speak.}

With that the connection is severed. Presumably she'll give the brooch back to Demetrios, but now that it's over with you can't quite put your finger on why you were so dreading that conversation. Sure, it's somewhat unfortunate that you're having a child with a woman you've only met once, but compared to the crises you usually deal with this is downright mundane.

>>45662095
>only 3

The sharp whistle of a ballista bolt drags you back to your present circumstances, riding towards a heavily fortified gatehouse bristling with armed soldiers, and at least three enormous siege engines capable of launching a metal spear nearly half a mile. Of course, judging by the fact you're nowhere near within range you're guessing the men crewing these weapons of war aren't exactly the most experienced, the bolt misses you by quite a large margin.

>Wıth the enchantments placed on this saddle, you shouldn't need to fear the ballistae at all. Swoop in and land just before the gatehouse.

No, that autismo is the one making all the retarded "battle meditation to learn sound magic in the few minutes between now and arriving at the city while sitting on a saddle in the middle of the air" posts and the reason I'm not posting the list.

I think I told him to kill himself last thread.

You urge Zahak lower, your thoughts mingling with his own. Communication with Zahak is always so much less taxing than communication through the brooches. It feels effortless, and you need not slip into a trance simply to maintain your focus upon the conversation. {Fly in low, we'll use the saddle to prevent any of those bolts from actually striking us. Land just in front of the gate, and I'll handle the guards. Remember, we don't want to kill anyone. Just scare them a little.}

You can tell that Zahak's a little disappointed, you think he might have been looking forward to a fight, but he obeys nonethless. You might need to have a talk with your son at some point about who it's alright to kill, he's been getting awfully bloodthirsty lately. Plus, if Zahak killed someone within the Shah's domain the consequences would no doubt fall upon your shoulders.

A blue barrier erects itself just in front of Zahak's nose as you draw closer and closer to the city's walls. There are a few more shots from the ballistae erected atop the gatehouse, but even once you're within their half mile range most of these fly wide, slamming into the dunes to either side of your draconic son. It's only once you're barely two hundred yards from the gatehouse that they finally begin to strike with some accuracy, a heavy iron bolt striking the corner of Zahak's barrier and glancing upwards, spinning through the air and ultimately landing well behind the approaching Zahak.

This proves to be the case for all the bolts that actually come anywhere close to striking Zahak. They hit the barrier, and either the hollow iron heads shatter against the projection of vys, or the entire bolt is shunted off to the side. As you draw closer archers join the onslaught of projectiles, but these fair no better. Zahak's forced to move the barrier around far more than he was previously, but the arrows ultimately fail to so much as scratch your son's scaly hide.
(1/2)
>>
>>45663968
here we go
>>
He lands hard, his wings spread wide to slow his advance and his feet digging into the cobblestones, inadvertently ripping the road apart. He slides to a stop just before the gatehouse, fire spewing from small holes surrounding the gate. Your son lifts the barrier such that it sits directly above him, to protect from any stray arrows, and allows the flames to wash over his underbelly. Why they thought to use fire against a dragon, you'll never know.

A ripple of confusion spreads through the men stationed on the walls, many of them only just now seeing you seated quite happily atop your son's back. It requires some effort on your part, but you manage to stand atop the saddle and call out above the roar of the flame. “I'd appreciate it if you ceased your useless attempts to hurt myself and my son! I am Mirza Mikhael, of the clan Abdul-Hakim, and I've come to seek an audience with the Satrap!”

The flame cuts out shortly thereafter, and you hear what sounds like two men arguing upon the top of the gatehouse. A man you recognize only vaguely pokes his head over the wall, a long ponytail dangling from the back of his head. You can't claim to truly recognize the man, but something about him is familiar. “Did you say your name was Mikhael? My wife told me you were banished!”

This must be Faris, the general whom your sister married. This isn't quite how your father thought you'd meet your brother in law, he was supposed to be in court rather than at the walls, but maybe you can turn this to your advantage.

So he has already attacked us and needs proof that we are not aghtaki to stop? No he hasn't there is still time for us to keep that information between Mik and him instead of the entire fucking city. Lets not get rebanished unless we have to.
>>
>>45664455
We're getting rebanished anyway, you idiot. The dragons know that the guy who stole one of their eggs was the one who destroyed their lava-filled paradise, and we've been flaunting Zahak's existence wherever we go. Add to that the fact that the dragon cultists have seen our face, and it doesn't take much thinking to figure out we'll be rebanished in the epilogue at the very latest, possibly earlier. But I suppose actually thinking was a bit too much to ask of you.

Banishment doesn't work that way. You can only be banished according to the five marks. Scourge, Thief, Slanderer, Trickster and Slayer. Thus if they ever take action against us it would be go with normal legal actions rather than banishment which the Shah told us explicitly that we would be excuted if we ever do something that deserves banishment.

Besides, family is something that holds you back. Something heavy you shed when you ascend to a realm of your own making. And if we don't die and remain a wanted man who is to be killed on sight, what are we but an Aghtaki without a mark, just like we were before we bamboozled the Void and the Shah at the same time?

We'll be instantly assaulted for the massive bounty on our head by anyone who recognizes our face (or our dragon), probably a bigger bounty than a regular old aghtaki, thus making us essentially double banished.

There is a difference between banishment and being a wanted man. Banishment means that your safe outside the Shahdom as Aghtaki can only be hunted down while inside the Shahdom. Being wanted means that they will actively hunt us down outside the Shahdom and will offer the bounty to foriegners. Big difference there.

Soma already gave the reason why Aghtaki are usally bandits. Something about that most of the banished are usually actual people who already swing in that direction like Slayers and Thieves. Even if they are not, most foriegn countries have suffered enough from such bandits that they give other Aghtaki's a bad reputation and are forced into banditry. Also most Samajin's are racist.

You reach into your cloak, extracting the envelope sealed with the royal signet and brandishing it for all to see. “I was unbanished on the orders of Padishah Kadir, for saving his life after an assassin nearly killed the man.” That assassin was you, but nobody needs to know that little detail. “I've a letter here stating as much, should any man wish for proof. Now if you'd be so kind my son and I have traveled far and we're both weary from the flight.}

There's a tense discussion on the wall above, before eventually Faris calls once more over the parapet. “Fine, we'll open the gates and grant you passage, but I'll need to read this letter of yours.” Almost as an afterthought he tacks on. “And where is this son of yours? You are alone atop that beast of yours.”

You were wondering when he'd finally pose that question, and you muster all the righteous indignation you can for your response. “His name is Zahak, and he's no mere beast! He's a dragon, and more importantly he's my son! I hauled his egg out of those god forsaken mountains and hatched it by the force of my will alone!”

Silence greets you, at least until the grinding of the gate draws your attention. Slowly but surely they swing open to permit you passage, and Zahak lumbers forward into the gatehouse. You're greeted inside by an iron portcullis and your brother-in-law, looking more than a little annoyed. You hand him the letter and he breaks the seal with his thumb, flipping open the envelope and quickly reading through its contents.

His expression shifts over the course of reading the letter from annoyance to concealed disbelief. He puts on a stoic front but from the vague grasp of emotion you glean from the fabric of his thoughts you can tell he only barely believes his eyes. Who can blame him? You'll be the first man unbanished while they yet live in all the tens of thousands of years your people have walked the Earth.

He hands the letter back once he's finished and you slip it back inside the envelope, resealing the wax with a bit of Fire magic. The letter vanishes beyond the event horizon of your cloak, shepherded deeper by Ricky's grasping tentacles. “Satisfied, I trust?”

Faris nods tersely. “I suppose, but just what is it you wish to meet with the Satrap regarding?” You're interrupted as you're about to answer by the grinding of metal against metal, the great chains which control the portcullis slowly raising the iron gate into a recessed stone alcove above. Zahak steps forward, walking upon the clawed joints of his wings as you begin to make your way throug the city streets.

A procession of guards surrounds you, with Faris keeping pace beside you. The guards seem uneasy, especially those in front, but who can blame them? They have a fire breathing terror from legend breathing down their necks. Focusing upon your own feelings of confidence and self-assurance, you try to ensure that Zahak stays calm as more and more people begin to poke their heads out of windows and doorways to get a look at the spectacle taking place before them.

>I'll need to read this letter of yours.” Almost as an afterthought he tacks on. “And where is this son of yours? You are alone atop that beast of yours.”
Nigga really likes saying "of yours."
>>
You finally turn to Faris as an increasingly large crowd of commoners falls in behind your little procession. “I received a letter while I was staying in Nazir, and after some discussion it was decided that I ought to handle it personally. It will all become clear once we reach the Satrap's palace. Do stick around, though. I have a feeling this will interest you.”

Flashes of concern and anger rage to the forerfront of his thoughts, so prominent that you can pick up on them even as relatively inexperienced as you are in Nature magic. However, his timultuous emotions don't show in his expression or in his actions. He simply remains in lockstep beside Zahak, careful to avoid getting smacked aside by one of your son's wings. His stride really is anything but graceful.

As you reach what seems to be a main thoroughfare, the Marble Palace stretching out direcly ahead and the streets crowded with merchant's stalls and all manner of pedestrians, the crowd around you has built itself up into something of a fervor. The term 'dragon rider' is getting throne around an awful lot, and with more fear than reverance.

ROOOOOOOOOLL 23d10+22 (+6 from Master Fire Vatis, +2 from Zahak's Assistance, +4 from Draconic Assistance, +6 from Orator, +4 from Adhikari) vs DCs 25, 30 and 35. You automatically pass the DC 25 so at the very least you'll impress the crowd. DC 30 to turn this into a real parade. DC 35 to become an even bigger celebrity than you're already going to be.

These are really easy DCs, I'll be surprised if you get anything less than a great success.

He's locked in a vicious cycle of procrastination and disappointment.

After such a long hiatus, he wants to start up again strong, and run a big thread with lots of content to make up for the delay. But things crop up, and opportunities for long sessions are infrequent.
As time goes by one feels more and more the need to make up for their absence, to apologize for their failure. And the stronger that feeling becomes, the more inadequate the readied material seems.

Eventually there will come the point where he will come to believe that he's waited too long and it's now too late, he's squandered his player's good will and they don't want to even get their hopes up again. Running isn't possible anymore; surely they've all moved on. The sense of shame for his failure will crush him, and the quest will be truly Dead.

And so the Curse of the Slab takes another.

This is too somber. You were expecting more wild applause and people screaming your name in adoration. You think you've got just the spell to solve that little issue, and channeling vys you begin to shape the light of torches and lanterns into something greater. Three figures slowly assemble themselves in the sky high above, one of an immense worm rendered in miniature, another of your son in all his glory, and a third of yourself, standing proud in your Vatis robes.

Letters resolve themselves from nothing, cast in glorious golden script against a black background. 'Mikhael and Zahak Slay the Guardian'. Your voice rings out amplified through the city streets, the ambient vys resonating with each syllable you speak. “Ladies and gentleman I come to you with a purpose, and not without having faced hardship in getting here. I would reccount to you the tale of a challenge I faced not but a few hours ago, within the confines of an abandoned temple once dedicated to the Empress of the Gods herself.”

A murmur of anticipation ripples through the croud, shapes and colors resolving themselves into a reflection of the temple you soared above only earlier today. The worm looms below, rampaging across the temple grounds and ripping through the ancient stones, beams of light glancing off its hide as the adventurers struggle with the beast. You launch into your tale, recounting the story as it takes place above you.

Zahak dips his wings, and as little more than a blur of light against a backdrop of the blue sky he slams into the back of the beast head, a beam of light scything through the air as it collapses to the ground. Zahak roars triumphantly, his mouth ripping into one of its thick carapace plates even as you dismount, burrying your spear into the worm's back.

Perhaps it could be said you dramatize the crash later on, as that bolt of entropy the worm hurled from the gem embedded where its mouth ought to be scythes through the air, but who can blame you? The heroes in stories do not fall face first into the mud. They land triumphantly upon both feet, shield raised before them and spear raised to strike.

Of course you give credit where it's due. You tell the eager crowd of how Adnan petrified the worm, ultimately allowing Zahak to finish the beast. You give Indira the spotlight when the opportunity presents itself, showing the commoners how her gauntlet repelled the attack that nearly felled you. There's a great uproar when Rahim's arrow strikes the beast and explodes in all its violent glory, the crowd fliniching back for fear they might be caught in the blast.

It's as you're arriving before the gates of the palace, the great golden doors swinging slowly open to permit your passage, that you conclude your tale with the erection of the shrine. A shrine you quickly explain away as a monument to a worthy foe bested in a fight worth immortalizing. You debate declaring before the court of public opinion the crimes of the Demirs, but reel yourself back with some reluctance. You're here to air your grievances before the court, not gather a lynchmob to storm their estate.

You slip beyond the gate and your guard stay behind, gathering to keep back the city's populace as they desperately call out for more, for another story and another spectacle. They cheer for you, and they beg for you, but more than that they cry out desperately the name of your son, and as the gates swing closed an enormous blast of fire rips from his throat, lighting up the palace gates as though a sun spawned in miniature.

Even Faris seems impressed as you slide out of Zahak's saddle. “Is all that true, then? You make a hobby of soaring in on dragonback to rescue strangers poking around the tombs of our ancestors?”

Clapping the man on the shoulder, you set off towards the palace proper. The marble doors slowly grinding across the cobbles to permit your small party entry. “I suppose you could call it a hobby, though truthfully it's not drastically different from what I do for a living. Normally I'm the one rooting through those ancient tombs.”

Zahak falls in behind yourself and Faris as you pass enter hte Marble Palace, the halls more than wide enough to allow your son through comfortably. The walk to the audience chamber is short, the halls lined with courtiers most of whom can't seem to believe the sight paraded before them, of a dragon marching through these ancient halls with just as much civility as any of them, if perhaps not nearly so much poise or etiquette.

The audience chamber proves to be an immense courtyard, open to the nightsky above, where the Satrap sits enshrined within a golden throne carved to resemble a peacock with its head bowed demurely and its tail spread out behind in glorious detail, each feather carved exactly identical to every other, and a red dot marking the end of each. You cannot help but find the throne an odd contrast, on the one hand a show of humble obedience and on the other, the very emblem of pride.

Grislier trophies adorn the wall above his throne, dozens of rotted skulls staring down upon the court below. Beast of all shapes and sizes, some with enormous horns weighing down their heads and others with sharp teeth bristling from overstuffed mouths. Most daunting of all are the skulls of your fellow Samjan, poised directly above the Satrap. A grisly reminder that he is the one who holds power over life and death here, not the Shah.

You come to rest before the Satrap's throne, braziers burning sandalwood filling the air with the pleasant scent of incense. It's soothing, and distracts you somewhat from the veritable army of guards surrounding you on all sides. Faris bows before the Satrap before treating to stand behind him, next to the door on your right with his hands folded neatly behind his back. Courtiers slowly filter into the yard, taking up position behind the guards. The entire scene reminds you uncomfortably of the trial which resulted in your banishment. Of course, you did not have a dragon standing with you then.

As for the Satrap himself, you find him a weasly little man. Short, perhaps no more than six foot two. Darzi is taller than him, or nearly so. The beard crawling across his jawline places his age somewhere around two or three hundred, but for his age he looks good. He wears an elaborate cloak layered overtop a cuirass crafted from Palaka hide, the gemstone embedded at his right breast glowing dimly in the evening light. Enchanted, you'd wager. Most likely simply to dissuade any would-be assassins. The sword at his hip at least seems mundane, though of an odd make. It's a straight sword, rather than the sabres you're familiar with.

You bow low, touching two fingers first to your forehead and then to your chest as you rise. “Satrap Farouk, a pleasure to see you again.”

He smiles joylessly. “Yes, I believe the last time was at your sister's wedding. You were still a child then, I'm surprised you remember it at all. Tell me, Mikhael. Why does an Aghtaki drag himself into my court with a children's fable at his back and the void itself dangling from his shoulders?”

A good eye, this one. You think he's the first one to ever identify your cloak for what it is without a demonstration. Perhaps more at work than simple perception, you'd wager that cuirass of him is for more than simple looks.

Actually, if anything claiming it's a favor to the Al-Misra publicly would give you leverage over them. It would also kinda make them look bad, since you're basically stepping in to handle their shit. However, it makes the Abdul-Hakims look quite powerful indeed that they can just have a dragon rider show up in Marqash unannounced to deal with shit not even really directly related to them.

ANYWAY

ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLL 3d10+10 (+6 from Orator, +4 circumstantial). VS DC 23 (Base 15, +4 from Proud Lord, +2 from Home Turf, +2 Circumstantial) to convince him to aide you. I'll say a regular request would get you his permission to go rampaging through his city after the Demirs, and the help of Faris as the Captain of the Guard. Great Success would earn you nearly the whole of the city's resources.

Don't fuck this up.

We are nobilty, we won't lower our self to please this fucker.
Soon enough once we're rolling in it, We will have several military/merchant ships again in the family. As well as raising the family army, from all the money rolling in.
We treat him as an equal at best, cause soon in the future he will be no where near us.

I want to heavily invest into our lands with Sk's tech.
We should be getting more land soon with this shit happening with the Demirs. Causing thier downfall and getting us more land, if not all of their lands.
Fuck I want as much military power, as the Satrap. So we our family can't be fucked with. Along with our economical might.

That doesn't sound very useful.

I srsly want the cat to make a artifact that tells us how an artifact works. Say the three most important facts about it, 2 abilities and 1 downside. Or say all the runes on the artifact and it's negatives. Once we view enough artifacts, with it we learn how runes usually work.
>>45669347
WTF are you saying?
I do say we start killing dragons and thier spawn as much as possible. And start investigating their insides. To get a dragon slaying perk. Cause we will need it. Once we try and clean up the cult, and dragons trying to attack Nazir.

>>

>>
>>45669476
Well we could try and see. If we get something to help us recognize runes better. Or the abilities of an artifact and downsides to one. With out letting us know the runes. Either or would be nice. Not saying the cat would jump at the idea to make it.
But I imagine after a few more shrines he will give us the option to make another artifact. And we will have learned a lot of the basic's by then. I assume in the next 1-3 shrines we may learn how to arrange runes in priority order.

Ayway just an idea. Plenty of other shit more useful we could ask for like an upgrade to our vys storage ring. Like expanding it's storage, and vys it absorbs, or a making a chain out of the horn to absorb more vys per hour and a much larger storage.
That siege armor now We also do want a surplus that is not automatically absorbed by accessories.
>>
It might not be a bad idea to see if the cat could give us a crash course in artifact modification, one problem we've had in the past is the inability to use some artifacts together.
It would be pretty sweet if we could just add the useful effects of one artifact on to another.
For example we could get the flying boot enchantment on our armor
>>

>>
>>45670092
I'd like it if it was a little faster paced, but it doesn't bother me at the rate it goes. A lot of the reason things take so long is that we're indecisive, at the end of one thread we'll decide to do something by an overwhelming majority and at the start of the next we decide on something different.
That, and I honestly find the characters, for the most part, interesting. So I don't mind threads that end up focusing more on party interaction.

There's no reason to participate because most of the threads are shitposting and soma posting nothing, and almost all of the options to vote for don't actually change anything of note. Partially because of how soma shapes the narrative and how his system works (you win, or you win more; regardless of which option you choose, future options aren't significantly affected) and partly because anons who participate are too ADHD/schizophrenic for any coherent long term goals to be worked towards.

This is prob why people latch onto hurrr CRRRAAAZYYY!randumb mik antics. Not because they're fun (though they can be) but because they're literally the only constants that also can change what happens.

>Waifu chryssa!
>Chryssa a shit, waifufaggotry Darzi!
>Ricky a best
>Ricky a slut, magic 4lyfe
Literally does not matter, we either fuck one once (and never again) and nothing happens as a result or we don't, and...nothing happens as a result. (Fucked random chick. Chryssa mad. Give ring, plot fiat, no real change to party dynamics)

I like reading BQ, I like the depth of world building that has gone into it, I like jewery and matching and combat and companions, but at this point, I'm pretty sure most of us arent in any way invested in the characters. Any major NPC dies, I'll be entertained, not salty.

TL;DR BQ is a better read from the archive or just sporadically checking in on it every few hours because soma is slow, and at this point the only people who care are the handful of anons samefagging against each other.

dragon corpse boat autist and assblasted intellectual autist shitposting at each other is pretty entertaining though

Anons what are your personal goals for this quest that don't involve the characters.

Judging by the self-satisfied smirk the Satrap wears, your surprise must be evident. “I must admit Satrap, you're the first man I've ever met to identify the nature of my cloak so quickly, and without a demonstration. How did you know?”

Farouk leans back into the cushions practically blanketing his throne. “I have some experience with similar artifacts. In my time I've wandered the Pa'vala, and found a number of artifacts with strange properties. Doorways opening to an airless realm populated by creatures outside the confines of mortal comprehension. Each time I stared into their confines I found myself unable to focus, my mind revolting against the very concept of absolute emptiness. I find myself confronted by that same discomfort as I catch a glimpse inside your cloak.”

So he was an adventurer in his youth. Apparently quite the accomplished adventurer as well, if he's flirted with the void and walked away with his sanity intact. However, you can't claim to have ever experienced the discomfort he mentions. Perhaps due to your own rather loose grasp upon sanity, you've never experienced any sort of discomfort staring into the depths of the void. Even though you're well aware that the void is staring back.

Regardless, you didn't come all this way just to afford the Satrap an opportunity to brag. “Satrap Farouk, I've come here seeking your aid regarding my niece. My sister's daughter has been kidnapped by the Demirs, a rather lackluster attempt to hurt my family after Malika Demir attempted to assassiante my brother, the heir to the title of Emir.”

>>
>>45670570
Discover more about the metaphysics of the setting. I'm particularly interested in the nature of enchantments carved onto the souls of creatures and how the gods defined life.
>>
A gasp runs through the crowd, though the Satrap silences them with a gesture. “A bold claim Mikhael, and you offer little evidence to support it. Why would they seek to kidnap your sister's daughter? She is not of the Abdul-Hakims, and thus holds almost no value to your family.”

You shrug your shoulders. “I cannot speak with certainty as to their motivations, I can only offer speculation. Perhaps they were desperate, and my niece was the only person even vaguely related to my family within easy reach. Perhaps they sought to force the Al-Misra to assist them in their foolish wars against my family. Regardless, I come here not to bring forth accusations regarding their attempted assassination. No, my Father will see that Padishah Kadir is made aware of that debacle. I'm here today only to see a child returned to their mother.”

The Satrap sighs, allowing himself a moment to think. You take the presented opportunity to survey the mood of the court. Already the courtiers had worked themselves into a dull roar, discussing the various merits of your accusations and voicing support either for your brother by marriage, Faris, or for the Demir clan. It was hard to make out any one voice in the crowd, but you did see a few people trying to slip away in all the excitement, likely hoping to warn the various factions for whom they worked.

A gesture from Faris put a stop to that. The guards slid the immense double doors closed, sealing you inside the courtyard. He stood by the Satrap's thrown, knuckles white around the hilt of his sabre and face the very picture of barely restrained rage. You must give the man credit, he's yet to charge off on his lonesome to slaughter the Demir clan whole, and drag his daughter back from whatever cell they've no doubt been keeping her.

Make our family's name the most powerful name in the world.
Teach Zahak how to not be a dickass dragon while still being powerful and commanding, earning the respect and admiration of his soon to be subjects.
Impregnate Darzi with dozens of children.
>>
The murmer of hte court is silenced the moment Farouk speaks. You must admit, he seems to command respect among his courtiers. “I will not interfere in your efforts, Mikhael. Investigate the Demirs as you like, ransack their estate if you must. However, I cannot offer my aid personally. It would not be my place to get involved in such... domestic disputes.” His nose wrinkles at the very mention, and with his decision made he prepares to dismiss court.

You're quick to step in, voice ringing out through the silence of the courtyard. “If not for the clan Abdul-Hakim, then I ask you Satrap to think of your loyal vassals. The Al-Misra, a clan to which my sister and her daughter now belong, have served you faithfully for generations. You have a representative of their most noble martial tradition here in your court, Faris is perhaps the greatest general born in the last hundred years, and let us not forget we speak of his daughter.”

You channel vys, an illusory letter assembling itself from thin air to sit clutched within your grasp. “If it is for lack of evidence that you hestiate, I assure you that the Demirs themselves confessed to the kidnapping. They sent a letter to my brother bragging of their crime, and claiming that they would release her only if we handed over Malika.” Unfortunately, you neglected to bring along that letter. A lack of foresight on the part of you and your brother. “The truth of the matter will be revealed the moment they drag the girl from wherever they've hidden her.”

You can tell that the Satrap is considering what you've said, and to give him that last little push that he needs you focus your will, reaching out across the courtyard to brush your thoughts against Faris' own. {I'd apprecaite your help in this, brother. The Satrap proves more stubborn than I anticipated.}
(3/4)
>>
Though initially surprised by the intrusion, he quickly gathers himself. His sabre rings against his scabbard as he draws it forth, tip burrying itself with unusual ease in the stone beneath his feet. Perhaps an enchanted blade? “Satrap Farouk, I apologies for speaking out of turn but my wife has been grief-stricken for days now. She refuses to eat, and has barely left her room. If you will not offer your assistance, I will offer my own in my capacity as Captain of the Guard.”

He borders upon threatening the man, and you half expect Faris to earn the lash for speaking out of turn, but instead the Satrap merely nods dully, taking this new information into account as he carefully considers his next course of action. He strikes you as a lethargic man, unwilling to answer the call to action unless forced.

Finally he comes to a decision, the snap of his fingers echoing in the silence of the court. A scribe steps forward with ink, quill, and parchment. “Very well, since it seems the City Guard will be leaping to your aid regardless of how I decide I may as well offer you my support in its full capacity. The city will be sealed such that none may enter or leave, and we'll see the compound surrounded.”

Farouk turns to the scribe, an immensely fat man with a greying beard dressed in the robes of a slave, and quickly recites an edict for the erest of any and all Demirs residing within the city of Marqash. They are to be detained until such a time as they can be questioned in regards to the kidnapping of Nithya Al-Misra, and the right to arrest them is bestowed upon not only the city guard and your brother in law, but upon you as well.
