Welcome to A Song of Revenge and Gold: House Malroy Quest. In which you take the reins of a House of storied glorious past since Aegon’s Conquering, but whose fortunes have taken a turn for the worse in the doom that Robert’s Rebellion brought. Taking place in 284AC a year after the Rebellion has ended you are Brynden Malroy, second son to Lord Vamos Malroy and Lady Esemella Hayford and the last living heir to Steadhold and House Malroy.

House Malroy is a pre-genned House designed around the idea of a story within the Crownlands of a House fiercely loyal to the Targaryens and their attempts to live in this new world after Robert’s Rebellion. The new Lord Brynden Malroy is as well pre-genned but will take direction from the players in his ways and how he develops himself further. This Quest will be moderately more story driven than others of its kind, but the development of the House and her lands will take just as much importance.

If you’ve played one of the many Quests within the ASoIaF setting the rules of the SIFRP system should be known. I will be using the Game of Thrones edition, as well as a few of the expansions namely OOSP and a few house rules which will be explained as we come to them. If you have questions about how things work or why certain actions are taken I can explain them as we go along. In truth this is a learning experience for me as well.

And now without further ado.
>>
In truth the entirety of the past few days reminded you of a simpler time, those days in Essos when you were on the move with the whole of the Second Sons, scouting ahead, buying your way into shady underbellies of various Free Cities. You were an unknown, not the second born of a noble House of Westeros, just a boy with silver hair, a bow and a golden horse. Days of grime and dust wore upon your face and cloak, to be cleansed rarely, save the times you found yourself in a winesink with a skin in your hand and a woman upon your lap. There was a time when you pined for those days, missing the simplicity of it all. But as of now? It felt more an annoyance. The trip to King’s Landing was a three day ride alone, pressing hard you could make it in just under two. Traveling by night and off the Goldroad however made the task far more difficult and it was not until the fifth night you saw King’s Landing and broke for camp.

You hadn’t exactly followed Lord Arryn’s instructions, if you disappeared for the better part of a fortnight it would be noticed, rather quickly. Your Uncle, Ser Dontos Malroy was the only other to know, and while you could read upon his eyes he did not like it he consented all the same. Solhas and Barq Zos would go upon a hunt to Hemgrove in the northwest, entirely unaware and separately of you, and those in Steadhold would be told that you had left with them early in the morning. They would be gone for two weeks exactly, so that was your workable timeframe, the rides alone wasted much of it. But you were on a mission, get in, get out, return home with nary a word, and likely have to explain to your rather confused Household what exactly happened. Better to ask forgiveness and all.

As you set up camp for the day on a small hill covered by trees just outside of King’s Landing your mind wandered. Upon the morning sun the imposing red walls of the capital loomed great in the distance, home to a once grand dynasty. It felt odd now to see her in all her glory and feel the weight of hundreds upon your mind. What was this ‘prize’ that it required such secrecy? Arryn was not particularly known for doing these things in such a way, and beside that all your summons were a matter of the court, it would be known you would be arriving regardless. Though by the summons a day later than what Arryn had instructed. It made little sense to you. Beyond that were the worries of home, a spy supposedly in your midst, from House Langward. A slave ring not more than a few days ride from your home. And your greatest enemies working together, the one thing that gave you an edge were your connections to Essos, it almost felt as if that had been stolen from you. And then thoughts of children. Two in particular, the seamstress’s daughter was due any day now, perhaps she had already given birth and then of Obella’s child, your ‘first-born’. There were many things that bore upon you, and none felt little any longer, as if they all grew by the day, as if things were to come to a head soon enough.

Your little brown horse stamps at the dirt and brings your mind to reality again, a few carrots an apple and water quiet her tantrum and you decide to bed down, the next day would likely require your full attentions. Your dreams are muddled, broken apart by fits of half sleep, though each still brings you to the Violet Plains, alone in the vastness of your family’s domain, you walk towards the flowers that had given it the name. Though each time you find them crushed, the head cut from stem, the petals scattered to the wind. A voice calls to you upon that wind, a woman’s terrified, screaming for you over the cries of babes torn from mother’s teat.
>>
Waking with a start and a cold sweat upon your brow you sit up, the sun having set and the moon high in the sky, an hour or so from the midnight hour if you were any judge. Enough time to ride into King’s Landing and to the Red Keep. Breaking camp in a hurry you feel your heart in your stomach, the empty pit wanting of food but in far too much turmoil to keep it down. Pressing into your horse you enter into the city, a dragon pressed into palm allowing you passage and a forgotten eye. Another three dissuading a few Gold Cloaks from checking your baggage and questioning your intentions. Your coin purse was not light by any means but you had expected to empty it at the gates to the Red Keep.

“Halt! Who goes there at this hour!” the guard calls as you approach, his companion entirely quiet to his side.

Your mind races for an answer, though your horse continues, your eyes averted to the ground, a hood covering your silver hair. The guard calls to you again, his companion now eyeing you intently, and you come to a stop before the gate, hand upon coin purse, and tongue finally having set upon response, “No one.”

The quiet guard approaches you, and looks up, a brief moment allows you to catch his eye, the emerald of your eye flaring up in his torch. But he does not flinch, instead only smiles, “Ah Ser Wallace Waters, we were not expecting you so late.” You almost go to speak but his look cowes you, and he motions to the moon, the midnight hour. The guard turns to his friend and motions for the gate to be opened, a short call and the gate opens, just enough for you to go on, the guard following after.
>>
The outer yard is entirely devoid of life at this hour, and you stand motionless unsure of your next action before the voice to your side continues, though in a far different tone than before, “My Lord. It is good to see you again,” in your confusion you glance down, the same man stands to your side, his hands upon the reigns of your horse, “Do not look at me my Lord. Act perfectly normal.”

Mind suddenly places voice to person, the feminine tone giving it away in a near instant, “Varys.”

“A pleasure as always my Lord.”

“What are yo-?”

“Do not worry for me my Lord. I only act in service. Listen closely my Lord, I will lead you to the small hall before us, you will dismount, bid me good night with a coin and enter. Inside there will be a coalboy, he will call you by Ser Wallace Waters, follow him without a word. Understood my Lord?”

You nod, silently, mind suddenly whirling and on edge. Though with little other option you follow through, dismounting in a single swift movement and reaching into your purse for another dragon and pressing it firmly into Varys’ hand, in doing so he draws close to you, “A pleasure as always my Lord. I shall call upon you in the coming days, in regards to matters of the utmost importance to the realm. I do so hope you will be available,” another grinding nod and you are sent on your way, entering the quiet dark hall where a boy tends to an empty brazier.

“Ser Wallace Waters?”

“Yes,” you respond quickly, your voice a low gravel.
>>
The soot covered boy nods and waves for you to follow, into the darkness below a staircase, into a door of stone, into a thin hallway unlit but the flame in his hands. The boy pulls a mechanism and the door disappears back into its place. A secret passageway? Your mind has little time to process the information before the boy darts off, his step quiet, and waving you to follow. The passageway winds, widens and thins, spirals into a staircase and you find yourself questioning it every bit of the way. Occasionally voice are heard, the low words of a drunken night come home, others the passion of lovers. All the while the coal boy moves, unpulsed, determined until he reaches a dead end and turns back to you with a smile, he pulls for another mechanism and the door groans, the stone pressing inwards and revealing a small room, before you a veiled woman looks out over the Narrow Sea.

“You’ve an hour Ser.”

The words fall upon deaf ears as you press forward into the room, a burning upon your chest propelling you forward. She is silent, hands cradling her pregnant stomach. The door closes quietly behind you and you stand in silence. Watching for a moment, the words unsure upon your tongue though in your mind screaming, rushing from lips. The burning upon your heart feels all too real, and you clutch it, the movement of your cloak falling from shoulders to ground finally gaining her attention. Her eyes meet with yours, an emerald you had not seen in years, forgotten the color of, like wildfire. Words begin to form at lip finally, though so little barely comes through, a word, a name, “Isis?”

She nods, solemnly, quietly, attempting to quell the quiver upon her lower lip, “Welcome home Brynden.”

Hug her and all that.

“Home is in Steadhold, but… I suppose we don’t have much of a choice in where we meet at the moment,” you respond in a tongue that had not passed lips in a long while, the old Dragon Lord’s tongue, High Valyrian.

Your sister smiles to your words, she was always better with it than you were, the quiver in her lip finally leaving, only to be replaced by tears in the corners of her eyes, and she responds in kind, “You’ve never called Steadhold home before.”

Eyes wander, to the Narrow Sea behind her, a laugh catching in your throat, she was right afterall, arguments with your father would always end with you telling him such. Steadhold was not your home, nor King’s Landing, the Crownlands, or the bloody entire continent of Westeros. In your youth you truly believed it, that you were not destined for this land, that your home was not here, perhaps not even in Essos. Even when you had returned it did not feel like home, in the quiet recesses of your mind the thought still echoed, until she welcomed you back to it. Eyes again fall upon her, the sting of salt upon their corners and you rush across the room to pull her into your embrace finally letting a year of torture loose. There was such a burning pain your heart, and your pulled her as closely as you could to quell its flames. You find yourself repeating the words, unable to form any others, “I’m home Isis. I’m home little sister. Home… I’m home.”

You can feel her own tears upon your chest, your face nuzzled against it near your heart even as a child she would not cry, not with tears at least. She would hole up in her room and pout for certain, until Donold, Dontos or yourself went to retrieve her. But never cry, not like this. Her shaw covers her head and you go to place a hand on her head, but she pushes back from you, eyes defiant, by reaction before softening her look and looking at the floor in shame.
>>
“I’m… I’m sorry Brynden. I don’t like when people touch my head, not anymore.”

Your eyes attempt to search hers for answers, knowing that her braid still sat upon your chest. A terrible pain begins in your heart again, and you reach up for her shaw, hands unsteady, her own hands small but strong attempt to stop you before relenting to your hardened look. You must know, must see. The draw the shaw back and your eyes widen, from pain, anger, pure rushing hatred. Isis turns her head to the side, a scar from her left temple runs to the back of her head, coarse fuzz grows about it though otherwise her head is shaved bald, knicks and cuts strewn about it. The silver you remembered… Gone.

“Who?” you grind out, voice dark and heavy.

“You know who Brynden. He… Took my hair as a prize. His knife cut deep, and now I will not give him the satisfaction of seeing it again.”

Now is your turn to push off, your motion is gentle but Isis can read your eyes, the wildfire pouring from them. In your beating heart is such a rage, of a thousand fires at once. And you find no other outlet, nowhere to place your rage, your need for revenge, for vengeance. And so… You scream. Isis does not flinch, her eyes still steady upon the ground, she knew your rage. Remembered its limits in your youth. Shaking you fall to your knees, a fist pounds upon a stone tile, somehow the blame transferring to yourself. She draws across the room placing a hand upon your shoulder.

“Where is he?”

“Brynden you can do nothing to him here. He attends the Queen’s court. She would have you executed on the spot.” Isis sits herself carefully before you, and places her hand upon your cheek, the other drawing her shaw up again, “This is not your fault Brynden. Nor do I blame Dontos or our father. Royce is a bastard. I do not forget those days where he would stare at me across the yard in Steadhold. He has always coveted me, and would do anything to have me.”
>>
“It isn’t right. He had no claim to your hand. To… To your-” you gesture towards her stomach and she picks up your hand, placing it there with hers.

“It is not brother. But that does not mean he would be stopped in taking it. What is done is done. We only have the next day to live for. How do you think I continue on? There was a time I thought you and Dontos dead with all the others. I almost killed myself, gnawed at the chain that kept me in his wretched tower. But then word finally reached my ears. And my resolve strengthened. I couldn’t be weak, not with you home, you would need to know I was strong. Still the Isis you knew. I couldn’t ask you to save me the day you had arrived or be the worm forever in your ear. I am strong for you Brynden, so that you do not need to do this alone. So that you know I still love you, no matter the days, months or years it takes for you to return me home,” she responds, her voice level, mature the quiet tones of the girl you once knew gone, but replaced by the woman before you. You stare at your hand for a long while, silently watching it upon her pregnant stomach. A soft kick causes you to jerk back and allow eyes to meet hers again, she smiles and presses her forehead against yours.

“I swear Isis… I… I will have you home. And he will be dead by my hand.”

“I know you will Brynden. I know.”

Isis looks to the window and your eyes note the position of the moon, a moment’s time left. A cruel thing, you wished to see her longer, to not be torn from her again. A moment’s time left to ask of perhaps one thing.

People she may not know what Redfuck is doing but she definitely knows where the egg is which can solve a few of our problems.
>>
So Royce basically maimed/scalped our sister, chained her up in a tower, raped her leading to her pregnancy, and probably verbally, physically and mentally abused the hell out of her and she is STILL tell us that she'll be strong? For Brynden? Isis is tough as nails.
>>

Sad thing is, even with all of that, and proof scared onto her skin, we still cant annul the marriage.
We would need proof of his wrong doing as a criminal slaver piece of shit, and then win the ensuing court trial by combat, before we could get her back.

No we give it to Varys like he wanted in the first thread. If we did have it then it would have erased the debt completely. Giving it to him now would get us a huge favour from the Spider. Which could then be used to fuck over Royce completely. But just the state Isis is in now should do that regardless of wether or not the bitch favors him.

As much as it pained you, you needed information, the curtain around Redwatch had kept you out entirely, and you knew little about the man outside of your intense hatred for him. Isis was smart she paid far more attention to details than you ever had. Perhaps for the better in your youth, as you likely would have pummeled him for even looking at her.

“Isis, I am sorry to ask, but I need to know, what in the Seven Hells is he doing? I get scattered reports, rumors, nothing more.”

Your sister looks down at her stomach, the pregnancy being her only barrier between his hand and her life, “He is building an army Brynden. I do not know much, he keeps me locked away in the Tower most of the time. The Hall that his father Ser Vance was building is nearly complete and he lives there now and he has built a stone wall around it all. I see little from the tower’s windows, but there is a much larger army than I think the Crown knows of. I think he is hiring mercenaries from across the Sea. They bring him shipments of weapons every two weeks, I can hear those animals yelling about them in the yard below. His dogs always roar into life whenever they come, and I can hear the screams of women and children below. He must have a hundred of those things, and they are all as vicious as a wildling.”

Well that confirms a few things at least, but it worried you that Royce had the coin to hire mercenaries, as well as purchase weapons. His slave trade must be far more productive than you knew, but how was he getting away with it, villages simply do not disappear.
>>
She continues, “The few times I brought to the Hall, he calls the wretched thing Bolthole Hall, and always shows me the crossbow he used to kill Donold with, the coward. I… I only attended the dinners a few times, could not stomach my food around him, and the way he would… Sorry Brynden. I met Linden Langward, he was wroth when he you took Hemgrove, and his wife Lady Brenda Blount, fat pig she is. The Lord of House Blount never comes, he is too scared after Dontos nearly killed Boros. Once I saw a man of Chyttering there, but never again after. There are strange men there though, they look like Essossi and speak in a bastards tongue of Valyrian, I only understand every other word and none of it makes sense.”

“I take it you know little of the lands around then?”

“Less than Brynden. All I know is that they are near empty now. Those that complained of his rule were either killed or fled. The rest live in quiet subjugation now. As far as I know.”

These were things you knew at least to a degree, but not so much as to be of immediate worth. You frown deeply and run a and along your face the dried tears flaking away as you do so, Isis places her hand upon your own and locks eyes with you again. With a small degree of effort she removes a folded piece of parchment from her skirts and places it upon your lap.

“This is the most important thing I known Brynden. He is fudging numbers, official reports to the Crown,” she opens it up and points to the months past, “Wealth is simply disappearing, funds transfer to a private reserve, a bank perhaps, but very rarely come back. He is lying to the Crown, but covering his tracks well. Royce is only half the idiot I assumed of him, or someone is helping him. Who I could not say.”
>>
The numbers meant little to you at the moment, and only made the connections when Isis would point them out, Royce was not smart enough for this. There was no way. You frown deeply again and Isis presses her hand in further to your cheek, pleading for you to look happy with her eyes. Deciding this line of conversation was not particular worth much else you turn to small things before your time is up. She asks of Victus, and again a tear falls when you tell her of his ordeals of late but the young man he was turning into. Of Dontos, where she insists you give him another small letter, promising it will make him the Knight she once knew again. You tell her of Steadhold, your men, how they rally behind you. And last you tell her of Obella, your sister smiles and laughs at your twisted relationship and meeting, frowns deeply at your time in Dorne and hugs you tightly when you tell her that Obella is pregnant. During this the stone wall behind you opens again and the coal boy pops his head in, “Milady, we must go. Your husband is looking for you.”

Your sister smiles gently at the boy and beckons him to help her up, a labor in her pregnant state, “This is Pate. He has been helping me in Redwatch, I’ve no idea how he followed me here though.”

“I flew milady.”

“I am sure,” she pats his head and he shoos off into the dark door again allowing you a goodbye, “Brynden. I’m sorry I do not know more, I will write you when I can,” she hugs you, standing on her tiptoes to place her forehead upon your chin, “I will see you again soon.”

You place both of your hands on her cheeks and kiss her forehead, words choking in your throat, “Soon Isis, you’ll be home. Be safe. And remember, I love you with all my heart.”
>>
“Home,” she repeats in Valyrian, “I love you too Brynden,” she finishes and kisses your right hand, before breaking away, her coalboy helping her into the dark passageway. So close, yet thousands of miles away. The stone wall replaces itself and you stand alone, the fire upon your chest having gone out, you search the pocket and find the braid, a soft stroke of it soothes your mind. Eyes landed upon a brazier across from you.

He did not deserve the satisfaction she said.

It was a war prize. A defiled piece of your sister. Taken by cruel hand. And placed in your own without context nor meaning. Her scar sat etched in your memory, the nicks and cuts the forgotten silver. And wildfire dripped from your eyes.

Is there a reason we didn't take our sister from this place then and there?

Giving her a ride back to Steadhold right now seemed like a decent move.

Kill the coalboy if he interferes. Who'll care for one servant? And what's his life against our sister's?

You stand. Hand limp as it holds the braid. just barely clutching to your fingertips in outstretched arm. The motions feel heavy, sluggish as if you walked through honey to do so, the drips of wildfire from your eyes stung, and fell to the floor as you walked. The brazier crackles and sizzles to their touch. The flames lick the back of your hand and you feel it not, the Valyrian in you seeing through the pain.

Her words echo in your head.

He did not deserve the satisfaction.

She would be strong. For you.

Your fingers slip, a final stroke of the braid that had seen you through so much else falls between them. The eager fire takes the braid, engulfs it, and for the moment you see it for what it is. Worn, dirty, the silver that was once there faded to grey and brittle to the touch. It was not her hair, no longer. It was a forgotten war prize. It was your strength. It was her defiance. But no longer. Now it was but a memory, forgotten as the brazier consumes what was left, and replaced by the new. Her words, her strength, her resolve. They were the fuel to your undying fire. The flame that sat in your heart without the braid’s help any longer. The fire of your all consuming need for Revenge.

>What’s done is done. You’ve let go of the past and set eyes forward. Destiny Point earned.

It's ridiculous is what it is.

She was wed without the consent of her family. Her protection was never transferred from house Malroy to house Redward.

And this isn't just some random Dornish slut, this is our sister. We should be prepared to take risks for her. Hell, she's one of the only things on this continent still worth taking risks for. Taking her home would bring Redward down on us? So what? Better to fill the faggot full of arrows from the top of our walls than let him have Isis back.

Because this isn't just about letting her suffer for a few months before she comes home,' or any bullshit like that, this is her life. If you think she'll live much longer than it'll take Redward to claw his spawn out of her belly you're more optimistic than me.

You awaken in a private room in the Red Keep, somewhere in the small hall you entered before if you hadn’t gotten confused on the way down at least. The coalboy was quick, and quiet as a mouse, he seemed to know every corridor of those hidden passages whereas you would be lost within a minute. The room was small and quaint and a breakfast of bacon, quail eggs and hard bread was set out for you, notedly without wine nor ale to wash it down, rather water in a clay pitcher. A note sat beside it gave instructions for the day, you would not be making an appearance at court until later in the afternoon, as to appear that you had just arrived then rather than the night prior. Lord Arryn intended to meet with you at some point before that, and would call for you when need be. King’s Landing was busy as it always was this time midweek so you were allowed to leave the Keep’s grounds so long as you maintained a low profile, aka no tavern fights or gallivanting about with whores. It was suggested you see to any private business now, or the day before you left, as was your preference. Otherwise you were to stay put and wait for Lord Arryn’s call.
You did have a few things to attend to in King’s Landing, there was the seamstress’s daughter who resided in your villa as of now. Rickard no doubt would have sent a letter to Steadhold by now of the child’s birth. But you knew little of it otherwise. It would be a quick thing, you remembered your promise to Dontos, a girl you may recognize, a boy wash your hands of it. A child born of lust, not of love, but your child all the same.

What to do today?
>Go to the Villa, and check in on the status of Cecilia and the child

You’d rather not walk about King’s Landing as of right now. Might cause a bit of scene by simply being, as was typical of you of late. The last thing you needed was to limp back into the Red Keep bleeding out from an assassin’s blade. Without the Sons or your Knights at your back you almost felt naked. Not that you were not used to the feeling from years ago,

While you had the time you had might as well look over the documents Isis stole away for you. You hadn’t particularly remembered thieving being amongst her skill set, but all the same, here sat documents detailed Royce’s activities over the past three months, a quarterly review it would appear. Though his house was of a full fledged Lord it still functioned like a Landed Knight would. For the most part things looked typically, occasional bursts of wealth, but mostly net losses, a scribbled note in the margin that looks like Isis’ handwriting indicates a noted loss in population at the beginning of Month XI, a complaint had been lauded against them in Redwatch Tower by the smallfolk that there were not enough hands to till the fields nor work the timber yards, it was met with bloody reprisal it would seem.

An influx of wealth in Month XII catches your attentions, most of it is sent through hoops and loops that you lose track of more than a few times, Benjin could read this far better than you, no Elionwy twice as fast as he. But numbers were your thing, a sellsword doesn’t lose track of numbers, or money for that matter. A portion is into his hall and wall you assume. The numbers looked right at least for that. If you had to guess they’d both be done within the year. And the last goes into his military. As far as you could tell it was mostly weapons, dogs and incomes as was typical. An asterisk by the a column named ‘Brt Bnr’ and tiny question mark gets your head turning a lot of money was being funneled that way, under military. But the number didn’t feel right.

Success, one degree.

Your mind clicks, the Bright Banners. Lesser known company in the Free Cities, very, very rarely comes this far west. But occasionally they will work out of Myr. A long standing agreement from years ago you had little idea of. You remember once fighting them over a contract when you were with the Second Sons, and while they were small in number they were absolutely vicious. Cruel was the proper word in some circles. If things had remained the same since you had last met them their numbers were close to 500. And as a whole, did not cost near as much as was being funneled towards them. With the current money towards them you guessed it would be a contract of two years, and the footnote below suggested each month another 1000 dragons were to go their way. That wasn’t right, not at all. Royce didn’t have the infrastructure to bring in that sort of money. Not monthly, and no one would need a sellsword company on their payroll for that long. It was highly likely that they were contracted all the same, but perhaps for three maybe six months total. The rest of the money was going elsewhere, somewhere in Myr was your best guess. Very possibly a bank or the owner of one.

“Tycano,” you catch yourself saying aloud while pinching the nose of your bridge.
>>
Rolled 5, 3, 4 = 12 (3d6)

>>
The would be magister owned a bank in Myr you were once contracted to collect a debt for. It was not a pretty sight and turned you off from accepting those sorts of contracts in the future. If you were guessing right, Tychano was bankrolling Royce, who was selling slaves for weapons and an extended contract with the Bright Banners, but in order to make it look like his funds weren’t coming from nowhere he was moving it around his holdings, placing bits and pieces here and there, even sending some back to Myr. All in all it just looked like he was having a good quarter with a bumper harvest or selling of something of worth. No Royce had no part in this, it was all Tychano. This seemed the exact sort of maneuvering he would do to keep his assets active, but outside of his sphere should he need to cut loose.

You sit back and look over your scribbled math again and your face hardly leaves a frown. You had suspected Royce to be at least profiting from what you could only imagine to be a slave trade at the moment but with no solid proof. But not being bankrolled entirely by a bank held by Tychano. The man hated you that was for certain, but so much so to involve himself in Westerosi politics? What was he playing at?

“My Lord? Lord Arryn would like to see you now,” a voice interrupts your idle thoughts and snaps you back to reality.

You turn your head towards the page and give him a sharp nod before standing up, placing the documents in your now rather empty breast pocket and following after without a word otherwise.
>>
It was a far quicker climb than the night prior and in a few moments you find yourself outside of Lord Arryn’s door, far above the Red Keep’s courtyard in the Tower of the Hand. You sigh, steeling yourself and push forward. Lord Arryn looks to you with a solemn eye, nodding towards a chair that you take with little coercion. Behind him stands Ser Byrron Royce and to his left stands Ser Grover Grafton, speaking in a rather harsh but hushed tone with his Lord and giving you a hard long stare before returning to his previous conversation. Arryn waves him off and Grover fixes his face with one of pursed anger but nods all the same, following after Ser Byrron when they are dismissed.

“Water or tea my Lord?” Arryn begins once the door is shut and he is settled again.

“Water,” you grind out, not entirely sure of where to go with this right now.

“It is a rather warm day, I do agree my Lord, water it is, page?” his little page swoops in and fills your cups quickly before pressing himself against the wall and out of eyeline as if was afraid of what was to come next. Arryn takes a deep drink, a dribble running from his mouth that he mops up with his sleeve before continuing, “I trust your visit last night was acceptable?”

>Response?

>Where do you want to steer the conversation with Jon Arryn?

"Informative to say the least."

We need to appraise him of our suspicions alongside the little proof we have, request he get aid from the spider to dig with (his honour should make him dig into this, slavery is a big no no), show him our workings out on the document our sister showed us and generally get the ball rolling.

We also need to formally inform him of whats going to go down at our wedding and discuss where we go from here.

The end can be about what is getting lifted from us sanction wise.

You guys have no patcience.

We are literally here to get our rewards. Chill the fuck out and bitch after weve finished talking.
>>
>>45641302
Is that an insult?
>>
So here's the thing.

You are not sure at all that right now it's a slave trade. That's Brynden's best guess based on a tortured man saying that some guards could hear crying at night and boxes smelling of piss and shit. In the court of law, that would be dismissed as hearsay at best, slander at worst.

Your only other notable proof is the noted loss in population over the past month, however, the documents that prove such should not be in your hands at all. And with the cries of banditry in the land such a loss wouldn't be unexpected.

Beyond that, it isn't illegal to 'take out a loan' with a bank across the Narrow Sea. Royce is hiding it definitely, but that's to obscure his other movements.

So, with that being said. Do we really want to bring up any concerns about Royce at the moment?
>>
>>45641347
no
>>
>>45641347
Bring up that we suspect such things, but have no proof, as such we would like the spider to look into it, since even still its quite clear that royce is fiddling the books in his reports to the crown.
I fully expect lord arryn to dismiss this, and then investigate it anyway. We gain nothing by sitting on it, having more eyes on the lookout benefits us both.
>>
Did we ever make our "todo list"?

>Your only other notable proof is the noted loss in population over the past month, however, the documents that prove such should not be in your hands at all
And yet they are. Arryn knows what's going on. He'd be a fool to dismiss our testimony out of hand.

At the end of the day, hiding information from your allies is foolish at best, and actively harmful at worst.

But I don't think of Arryn as our ally, so I vote no. Don't mention it to him.
>>
>>45641403
Seems like a plan. We need to throw our lot in with the Spider(Not a statement I ever expected to make, but all evidence suggests that the Spider's goals involve Royce's downfall and our ascent)
>>
>>45641347
Dad do you enjoy fucking us over and over with Royce? Because that is what it seems like, we have proof but can't use it? We have knowledge we should be able to but you say it's worthless? the fuck!
>>
Its also not a problem that we have articles of use that we "shouldn't". The hows and whys are utterly none of his concern, only what it reveals.
Just dont admit how we came by it.
>>
>>45641422
Arryn hasn't been a great ally, but he's still been an ally. He's reluctant to get off his ass for us, but he's not against us and he has way more power than anyone who is more eager to help us that is remotely trustworthy.
>>
>>45641191

“Informative to say the least.”

“As expected, it has been, eight years was it?”

“Nine, now.”

“Ah, all the same. I am glad to have done it Lord Malroy. Family is very important, particularly in our realm at such a time. Word of Ser Samuel Hayford’s death reached King’s Landing not too long ago. A travesty, though the outcome, understandable,” you sit quiet to Lord Arryn’s words, your trust had yet to be entirely rebuilt at least on your end. Lord Arryn sucks on his teeth for a moment in the quiet and shrugs his shoulders, seeing your trepidation in joining him in full conversation, “Page, bring me yesterday’s edicts.”

The page runs off to a side room and you watch him return with a stack of papers, as of yet unsigned and unsealed, Lord Arryn shuffles through them before picking out a single one and holding it up and deciding on it. He passes it to you across the table, near your untouched water, where you pick it up and begin to read, “By decree of the King, Robert I Bartheon…the domain known as the Princewood is held forfeit, as the Lord Royce Redward inability to maintain order in correlation to the Law of the Seven Kingdoms and subsequent inability to prove to the court his capacity to do so, as judged by the honorable Saul Compton, Master-of-Law in service to the realm. Rife with banditry and debauchery, these lands are to be considered a danger by all of the Realm and will remain in the Crown’s possession until such time a Lord of the Realm is capable of purging the blight that so harms these lands. Lord Royce Redward is allowed a month to remove his assets from these lands before they are turned over to the Crown. House’s Chelsted and Malroy will be given privilege over others to attempt to retake these lands, within a six month period, before any Lord of the Realm is allowed to place a bid for them.

So is decreed by the Crown and the King, Robert I Baratheon…”
>>
You look at Lord Arryn for a moment and sit the paper down, “My lands are not rightfully returned to me?”

Lord Arryn sighs, “I am afraid not my Lord. This is a matter of law. I made certain that your own House had special privileges in retaking them, otherwise there was little else I could do against the King and Queen who both favored placing a bannerman loyal to their respective Houses there instead. The timeframe, six months, should be more than enough time for you to coordinate an effort to restore the lands to your House. I do believe such.”

You sigh and pass the paper back, it wasn’t exactly what you had wanted but it was something, a small something for now at least. Lord Arryn begins to shuffle through his papers again and pulls from it another edict placing it in your hands, “By decree of the Crown, etc… Lord Brynden Malroy, for his timely payment of his House’s war debts, exceptional behavior as a Lord in service to the Realm, and unfaltering loyalty to the Crown has been given an exception to his standing military limit. As it was previously Lord Brynden Malroy was limited to 700 standing men, a limit raised to 1000…”

“Better,” you remark and hand the paper back, “In service to the Realm?”

“A bitter pill to swallow my Lord I am certain, but it is your services and subsequent betrothal that helped the ball rolling. These things are the least I can do.”

“And of my sister? What do you do to see her free as promised?”
>>
“As of now my Lord. Nothing. It would be seen as blatant favoritism, to a Crown that is still suspicious of you and my relations with you. Show Robert you are the fighting Lord and he will respect you for it, from there we can continue on with seeing your sister returned home. Master Saul Compton, I believe you met previously, is currently seeing to the case himself, per my request,” you twist your face up and Lord Arryn allows his shoulders to droop, “My Lord I told you this would be a process that could perhaps take years. I cannot hand you these things, the law is such. Unless Lord Royce commits a crime in the eyes of the Seven or Crown so grievous as to lose his favor with them, my hands are tied.”

These rewards, are they acceptable?

These things would do, for now. It still sat poorly in the back of your mind, you were not certain of the man you would once have named an ally, and is dragging of his feet regarding Isis grated at your patience. Perhaps you would not need to wait if you were able, the Crackclaw Point Alliance and marriages to House Chelsted and Qorgyle may push you over the edge of capable alone. Though these thoughts sat at the forefront of your mind, so did your brief meeting with Varys. You were entirely unsure of the man, it felt odd to even consider him an ally, but your words kept in your throat. Grievous crimes you could tell of, but you only had suspicions of such and small evidence to back it up. Better to speak with the man that knows information, that knows everything going on in the realm. If Royce was running a slave trade, Varys would know.

“I thank you my Lord, these concessions are appreciated.”

“A welcomed thing to hear my Lord. The matter in Dorne, was hardly a matter of choice, but necessity. I do hope you understand, or at least someday come to understand such. And will understand further why I can offer no apology for such, as it was a task done in service to the Realm.”

You grind your teeth a degree, and nod stiffly, Arryn’s grey eyes hardly regarding such with more than a flicker before he begins to speak again.

“These edicts will be ratified in the evening my Lord. The evening of your ‘arrival’ you will attend court, accept them graciously and be on your way. Lord Royce Redward is still within the Keep’s walls, I would suggest a night in your Villa before returning home. When the matter of the Princewood is settled, I will contact you again, and we may proceed. All I ask is your patience my Lord.”

Patience. A thing he asked of you often, and grinded at you more than anything else of late. You look to the door and Arryn casts his eyes after, to your wordless motion.
>>
“Yes my Lord, you are dismissed. If you have nothing of a formal matter to bring forward today, or informal as we use to speak of.”

You make to leave, standing from the table and training eyes upon the elder man. You could feel the tinge of hurt upon the words, whether it was real or fake was beyond you, but it was there all the same. Your mind bounces between reactions, as if he had the nerve to feel hurt over your mistrust, that things were no longer the way they were where you would speak to im in confidence. Settling you reach into your breast pocket, removing a letter, the seal of golden wax pressed with a rampant horse.

“My wedding will be in the coming months Lord Arryn. Compiled is a list of those who will be coming. A formal invitation for yourself and the Crown has been extended as is customary. Good day Lord Hand.”

Jon Arryn looks at the letter placed before you, eyes not leaving it, “Good day Lord Malroy.”

You leave off with little word elsewise, the page eventually stopping after you outpace him so far. You travel back to your room and pace a bit. A heat had risen in you and you wanted gone of it before the evening. Though a voice uninvited as always interrupts, “My Lord, when you are quite done, do be sure to inform me. Time is of the essence.”

Stopping you turn eyes to a corner of your room, a blank wall behind the Spider, Varys who only smiles to you in his way. Your senses catch up to you and the sweet smell of perfumes fill your nose, eyes adjusting to the man in his proper regalia. Your body stands motionless and Varys instead walks towards you, drawing about you in a circle.

“Done then my Lord? Very well. Now, I do believe you’ve some information that I would find very interesting. You were disinclined to speak to the Hand of the King of such matters, so I do understand if you are hesitant. But again, time, is in short supply my Lord.”

Removing the invoice from your pocket you outstretch it to Varys, he takes it with a delicate hand, giving the paper a sharp sniffle, and wrinkling his nose, “The perfume of a young lady? I do wonder how a Lady come across such a valuable document and then see it to my Lord’s hands.”

Your mouth twitches and he waves his hand in a foppish matter, silencing your words as he reads through the incomes himself, noting where you did your own math and coming to the conclusion that the Bright Banners did not cost near half of what they were being paid much faster than you did and with a slight laugh.

“Lord Royce is not an intelligent man it would appear. Tsk tsk tsk. Such sloppy work. But for what end my Lord?”

Well, you were this far, time to throw a lot in with the Spider, at least somewhat, you did not trust the man as far as you could throw him, not particularly far you imagined privately. But he was the Master of Whispers, the Spider, he would know. He would have your missing pieces.

“I believe Royce s coordinating a slave ring Lord Varys,” you begin before delving into what details you know, explaining Horace Hogg, the spy in your House, the assassins. Everything you could throw at him. Varys takes this all in with a placid look, nodding along to your words and feigning a gasp when you explain Samuel’s insanity.

“As am I my Lord. Well less believe and more know. He has not been particularly subtle. The use of Duskendale rather than King’s Landing was perhaps his only intelligent decisions. Involving the Hayfords and Dargood? Less so. But I’ve my doubts that was him. There is a man that very much does not want to be caught it would seem.”

“Wait, you know?” you stammer out, entirely caught by surprise by his entire lack of reaction, “Why haven’t you told the King? The Hand? How long has this been going on?”
>>
“Nary four months my Lord. The coalboy, Pate I believe his name is? He has been working in Lord Royce’s lands for quite sometime now, a tough child to be certain, Lord Royce is certainly not a soft touch. Regardless, I was made aware of the missing populace, and sent men to investigate. Incepted a ship, to find women and children chained below deck, claiming they were from Westeros. So I would say, very aware my Lord. As to why I have not told our fair King and Queen? Because, my Lord, they would bring a hammer down upon Lord Royce so heavy there would be nothing left. No evidence of what man across the Narrow Sea sees fit to intervene in the politics of Westeros, no evidence that the Queen showed favor to the man, and the lands would be taken, gift to a Knight of the Crown’s favor. Heroics in battle no doubt. And you would receive nothing my Lord. Barring perhaps the release of your sister, but even then the Crown may see her as guilty as well, and her name leads back to you. A difficult spot to be placed in my Lord. And likely to put you back to... Nothing? In truth my Lord, I do believe it is to your benefit that the Crown is unaware of such, for the time being.”

You stare dumbfounded at Varys who does not do much more than place the invoice into his sleeve pocket and look to you with a hapless expression, “Any questions my Lord?”

>Questions for Lord Varys?

"It is not the first time I have heard such things my Lord. Lady Elionwy has written to me of such before. >Next move

"Oh matters of war are hardly my expertise my Lord. If I were a man of such I would suggest a few things, your Princewood? Take it quickly, search for evidence, do not trust the Chelsteds to help you, Ser Cyrus Chyttering is not the man Lady Alexes assumes him to be. The pirates? Inform Ser Jon Longwaters that a raven will be sent to Lord Stannis, I am certain he will be interested and more than willing to help. But most certainly do not do nothing. You must press on in gathering the information necessary to damn Lord Royce.

Your ruining of his supply line will make him sloppier. Continue to disrupt him until he slips. So would be my recommendation."

"My Lord you misunderstand so dearly. I could not take such a precious heirloom in good faith. My offer was to purchase the egg, as it always has been, said courtesy has not been offered to Lord Royce, he is rather well off as of now it would appear."

>"So if you were inclined to lend your insight to my particular set of problems, we might both end up with what we want."

"What I want my Lord is peace in the Realm. The same as you it would appear. The enslaving of the people of Westeros is a grievous crime of the highest order."

>"So if you were inclined to lend your insight to my particular set of problems, we might both end up with what we want."

"Oh I would be delighted my Lord."

"A man who would be a magister. Tycano Osten, he owns a bank in Myr."

"And I take it has a history with you my Lord?"

"More than a little of one Varys."

Varys bounces his head back and forth, "This is new information to me my Lord. I will take it to consideration to be certain. When I am able and more certain of it and Lord Royce's fraud, we shall speak again, unless you need ask me more?"

>Anything else, or move on?

It could be better argued that it's in character for actual characters from the series to treat Brynden like this. He's a minor Lord from a minor House. Why should he be anything but the pawn? Hell Brynden probably got more than he deserved for taking that shot in Dorne.

People got spoiled with Iron and Hate, that is not how the setting works.
>>
>>45643069

I mean, if he's going to keep the paper, i'd like him to give his word that news of him having it won't get back to our enemies, since our source is in, y'know, a tenuous position.

Dunno' how to phrase it without being a dick, but Isis doesn't need to get more shit.
>>
>>45643678

Unless already mention bring up the sellswords. Other than that thank him for his honest help and despite his reservations that we owe him, we will not forget that.
>>
>>45643760
Varys has been on your side for awhile now. I mean as much as the Spider can be on one's side. Which is kind of funny. His service to the Realm is always the ulterior motive, which Brynden is entirely unaware of, but meta wise everyone should know.

Brynden's dislike for him and mistrust is natural for a Crownland's Lord. And then the super obvious Elionwy placement leading to more distrust. And I think that's what people got stuck on.

Arryn meanwhile technically is as well but places the 'Realm' before anyone. And his Realm is Robert's realm. So you can understand how that might compromise his relationship with Brynden. People obviously took this a lot more personally because Arryn was that 'father-figure' insert, and it hurts extra to have your dad throw you under the bus like that.
>>
>>45643876
>It hurts to have your Father throw you under the bus

More true than you know.
>>
>>45643758
It's still a shitty situation, I get people being unhappy with it. I may not agree with the reactionary responses, but I sympathize. What happened to us is unjust, yes it's fitting for the setting, but that doesn't mean people have to be happy about it. No need to act like a smug cunt because people are rightfully pissed about it, and chide them for being entitled.
>>
>>45643876

I always saw Elionwy as: you can take the obvious informant that you will know or I can have one in by next week that you will never know.
>>
>>45644040
This, I also like her. She seems good for Mason
>>
>>45643754

Varys laughs a bit, "You act as if I do not already my Lord. Your Lady Obella? When she arrives in Steadhold, ask her what her ladies know. You will be surprised I am certain. Coordinate as appropriate."

>>45643830
Varys looks to his sleeve as you indicate such, "And place my dear Pate in danger as well? Oh never my Lord. You have my solemn promise, not a single word of this shall ever reach Lord Royce's ears. And I do not intend to keep it my Lord. Shared information is certainly not the same if I am the only one to keep such. A replacement will be sent to Steadhold, again my word."

>>45643873
>sellswords

"I will contact those that I am able to my Lord. However, I am afraid they will likely become your issue far sooner than later and my help will mean little. I understand you begin work on Steadhold's outer defenses again? A noble undertaking. I do so hope it serves you well."

>giving thanks

"My Lord Malroy you give me far too much credit. It is by your own hand these wrongs will be undone. I am merely a humble servant in service to the Realm, your best interests are within mine own heart alongside the Crowns. You owe me no personal debt.

Now my Lord, as discussed, time is of the essence. I will see to these things with haste. Do enjoy the rest of your day my Lord. I predict the ratification of those edicts will be rather enjoyable for all involved. Good day my Lord Malroy."

With that Varys leaves, through the door to your room, as if nothing happened. The entirety of the situation felt absurd, somehow the Spider was an ally? A rather far flung one at that. At least you had confirmation that Royce was participating in the slave trade. Illiad and Illion certainly won't be happy to hear this but a secret to be kept all the same. You needed to gather evidence, and bring the hammer of justice down yourself, before the Crown could intervene and do as they do. And that, that you could do.

>Moving on to the ratification. Let me eat real quick.
>>
>>45643678
Move on, Varys is right, we need to build up our case, save up wealth to bid for our lands, coordinate with the Longwaters and disrupt the pirates, and most of all not sit on this information and be passive. We are not helpless, and we can make this shitty situation better with time and effort.
>>
>>45643971
People are acting like the QM is enjoying it however. They are unable to separate the story from the man writing it. All while acting up whenever the setting doesn't play to their egos.

Again I'll state, Iron and Hate spoiled people. Bordain should be despised by just about everyone like Gregor is. But nope we get our child murdering Lord that everyone including the Hand of the King loves. And anyone that doesn't is made to look like an idiot.

At least this quest plays the setting well. People need to get over it, it's a fucking story, with larger than the MC characters involved.

The 'seduction roll' was literally a one time thing.

And who wouldn't be happy to see people react to a story? Especially one that is suppose to be 'hard mode'. I don't think the QM was happy when people got upset with him about the Celtigar thing.

Not to mention he's made it clear he expects Brynden to win, hell he wants it. Overcoming greater odds to victory is far more sweet than, here have an objective, you win.

Alright enough. Chill out.

I have never said I enjoy you guys acting irrationally, panicking or getting upset. I enjoy when people react to things, when they act human. I totally get that people are angry with certain characters or situations they are put it. But shouldn't that just be more fuel to the fire?

I like when people act in character like throwing the marriage discussion right after the incident in Dorne. High emotions lead to better responses. It makes it feel more real for me.

I'm sorry if you believe I take genuine pleasure in making you guys freak out. Writing is one of my favorite things to do, and when I get more than a passive, yeah that was good man but instead an emotionally charged response I feel like I've done something well. That's all it is.

Now, enough of that discussion. I'm going to get back to writing. Talk about ways to kill Royce again I was losing my shit at that conversation. Or something else I don't care.

One time is all it takes. I'm not saying dad is out to like get us or anything, but I understand why there's a bit of out of character mistrust. It's cool that he enjoys us being engaged and all that, and I know ultimately he just wants to to tell a good yarn but sometimes the stuff he says out of game can makes it seem like some of the meaner stuff in-game was done specifically to get a rise out of us

Personally I favour the classics.

Killed in combat or with an arrow, yeah. Nice and simple. No muss, no fuss.

But if we absolutely have to make a spectacle of it, you can do worse than a good old-fashioned pyre.

Man, I don't get why you keep pushing us towards the rape thing.

Surely the better way to assert our dominance and humiliate Royce is to make him watch as we make love to Isis, while she screams about how much better a lover we are than he could ever hope to be.
>>
>>45644863
This one works
>>
>>45644686
Killing Royce plainly after what he did is a waste. He needs to be made an example of after his betrayal, his rape and scarring of Isis, and his dabbling in the slave trade. To do anthing less would be a miscarriage of justice
>>
>>45644686

While burning him alive DOES sound nice, I don't want him to die thinking it's a Targ/Baratheon thing. Yeah we hate him cause of all that shit but that's not why we've dedicated ourself to annihilating him. We'd have just killed him in that case. We're doing it out of vengeance for his crimes against our sister, which is why we're going to rape him and then flay him.
>>
>>45644910

Ok as much as I don't want to encourage you that was pretty funny.
>>
Tie him down, and make him watch the hall he and his father built be reduced to rubble and ash.

From there, put him in a cage and tell the smallfolk they can watch him be carted off in wagon to steadhold. They can express their feelings about their former lord however they please.

If possible, make his child a Malroy. And make sure he knows.

Oubliette. And if he ever asks us why we haven't just killed him yet, tell him "Patience."
>>
>>45645032
I don't think Redward has as much emotional attachment to the building stuff like we have for Steadhold. The cage thing is gold though.

We are absolutely under no circumstances making the bastardspawn a Malroy. No. If we're lucky there will be no Malroy features and we can dump it on the first peasant couple we see alongside some silver.

We're not killing it because of Isis. That doesn't mean she gets to keep it in our house and make us call it family. We love Isis but this isn't a society where she gets final say. We will take her opinion into account though and take it seriously, but the decision is gonna be ours.
>>
>>45645080

Your mind was still taking a while to process the remainder of the information you had just gathered. During this you decided it best to switch to your finer clothing, appear the proper Lord in front of the Crown. At least enough of one that looks like he just rode into King’s Landing. The idea of attending court again honestly bored you to tears, it was a long and overdrawn process, and you could even see it in the King’s eyes any time you were there. Breathing deep you leave off your room, instructing a servant to have your horse ready with your items in the afternoon. You wished to be gone of this bloody Keep as quickly as you could. Preferably with Isis alongside you, but a mere dream the thought was.

A page comes to escort you to the throne room and off you go. The gathered crowd is rather boring a few Lords and Ladies of the Realm, some Knights, Ladies-in-waiting, the typical. To your left was Royce Redward at his own table, arms crossed and a sour look upon his face. Along with him was a Knight you swore you knew, or at least the arms of, did you break that man’s arms? Maybe? Judging by the look of him you privately guess if you hadn’t yet, you certainly will want to someday. Isis is nowhere to be seen, a fact you are not entirely unsurprised by. To the right surprisingly, Lady Alexes Chelsted. The herald announces your name, heads are turned and you walk down the aisle and bow deeply to the royal host. Allowing a smile to play upon your lips.

The room is called to order as you take your seat next to Lady Alexes who wraps an arm within your own, and whispering into your ear how pleased she is to see her nephew again, and how excited she was to attend his wedding and how green with envy it made her. And how dearly she wished to see Ser Dontos again, their impending wedding was far too long off. You stuff your laughter down your throat the best you can but can't help a few escape.
>>
The woman was certainly a handful in her way, and you enjoyed that about her, the serious tone she took with you when business was afoot felt jarring, but in a way that spoke to her power and confidence. A good ally all the same.

Again, unsurprisingly, the hearing takes the better part of the afternoon and you find your mind wandering. It was not a year ago you came into this hall in the dirty clothes of a sellsword paired with the mismatched wear of your dead brother. What a sight you must have been. A stark contrast to the man that sat before them now. Your eyes occasionally glance toward Boros Blount his nervous stance barely held up by the wall behind him. Ser Barristan Selmy looks your way for a moment and a quick exchange of nods are made, before attentions are again brought to the court. From the corner of your eye you can see a steaming Royce, his fist shaking on the table, glances towards the Queen for help going unanswered. A part of you felt true joy in the moment, he was failing, falling apart, and soon you would finish the job. That bloody bastard would pay. The edicts are signed by the King, brought before yourself and Lady Alexes who signs it with a timid hand. Royce meanwhile draws an X on his and pushes it off at Saul Compton with a huff.

Not soon after is the ratification of your new military allowance. If Royce wasn’t angry before he certainly is now, you swore you could hear his teeth grind from across the hall. Lady Alexes looks to you with surprise, and you simply shrug, playing dumb to the miracle that had just occurred.

As you sign the edict and court readies to dismiss Lord Arryn raises his hand, and stands after it is acknowledged.
>>
“Lord Brynden Malroy, I come to understand you are soon to be wed, to a Lady Obella Qorgyle. A good match my Lord, the Crown and I both congratulate you, wholeheartedly. And while we are unable to attend I find that my dear Lady wife, Lady Lysa Tully is available to attend and has expressed interest in such. Lord Royce, do you find yourself equally unable to attend?”

The crowd is silent and you can see the faintest smile upon Arryn’s face, Royce looks to him and without a word shakes his head in the affirmative.

“A shame then. I would be remiss to send my wife alone, perhaps Lord Royce your dear wife would like to attend her brother’s wedding. A rare thing it is afterall. The details I do imagine can be settled, but as a guest of my Lady wife she will remain as a safe and neutral party. This is of course under the consent of Lord Brynden.”

Arryn looks to you with the same solemn look he had before, the crowd is beginning to chatter and you realize what he had just done. Isis’ location had been a mystery to most, rumors but now the Hand of the Kind made it public, it would spread like wildfire. Everyone would know of the wrongs done onto you and your family, no longer could he hide her in that wretched tower. A peace offering, bringing forth a Crown secret that he hated as much as you did.

Well then.

Oh Arryn will you ever stop being my favorite character? Probably not. Well Victus is pretty high up there too.

Its funny how the thread went actually. Emotions and all that.

Anyway, writing.

PS thanks for the Royce murder methods, makes me laugh every time.

>>>Accept his olive branch? (Lysa Tully and Isis will attend your wedding with an honorguard of Arryn men to 'keep the peace')

"I would be most honored to welcome my sister and Lady Tully into my home for the duration of the wedding and it's festivites. Thank you, Lord Arryn, and thank you Lord Royce for such a noble gesture."
>>
>>45645698
I like to think these are all in-character thoughts and that brainstorming the best way to kill Royce is what Brynden does for fun.
>>
>>45645748
It's like counting sheep, only more likely for Bryden to sleep with a smile.
>>
>>45645738
This. Let's show our 'sincerest gratitude' towards Royce for allowing Isis to attend. I hope he pops a blood vessel

The things he does sting like boiled wine on a fresh wound, and are often as bitter a maesters pill.

We'd be just as foolish not to take them.

>>45645887
>make Royce look more hotheaded than ourselves
>>
Honestly I don't think we'd properly appreciate exactly how Royce is suffering if we hadn't been Arryn-ed ourselves. All in all I'm going to say net gain.
>>
“It would be my great pleasure to host your wife Lady Lysa Tully and my sister Lady Isis Malroy. Assuming of course Lord Royce consents to such,” you respond, a slight smile drawing on your lips that Arryn takes note of. It was not much, and it would take far longer to rebuild your relationship with the man but it was something. At Royce and Crown’s expense no less. Oh it brought you joy, such unadulterated joy. To know his influence was beginning to fail, his star falling in the eyes of the Crown enough to allow this. It filled you in such a way that for a moment you felt the hatred drain away.

Lady Alexes to your side places her hand on your arm and gives you a smile that was far more telling than her actions. The crowd is still murmuring when the herald calls to order the court again, and Arryn fixing Royce with a strong eye, “Lord Redward?”

You give the bastard you full attentions this time, really taking in what an absolute piece of work he was. A blood vessel on the top of his forehead looked ready to burst, and his fists sat clenched upon the table, from grinded teeth you can just barely hear him speak. Lord Arryn places a hand behind his ear and leans forward, “I’m sorry my Lord. My hearing is not what it once was, would you place speak up?”

“You ‘ave my consent. Milord Arryn,” he grinds out loud enough for you both to hear. He spoke like commoner, like a man that didn’t deserve is station. He was still the bastard Royce Waters that you met so long ago.

“Very good. Lord Malroy, I’m sure the proper preparations will be made to accommodate your new guests. Lord Redward, my mean will escort Lady Isis upon the appropriate date. To assure you no foul play will be involved. Though I’ve little doubt Lord Malroy would intend it, he is an honorable Lord of the Realm. Would you Lord Malroy?”

“Never my Lord. Sincerely I thank you Lord Redward, you have my immense gratitude,” you finish with just a hint of a smile towards Royce.
>>
Enough that you can see him ready to boil over. Entirely worth it.

Royce stands, his Knight soon after and bows to the royal family before storming off. The crowd bursting into a small laugh as he does so before the court is brought back to order.

“If there is nothing else Lord Arryn?” Saul Compton asks.

“No Mister Compton. I do believe that is all the business I needed attending to today.”

“Very well. This session of court…”

---

Lady Alexes Chelsted asked you to escort her to her quarters, a gesture you could not deny, your mood was far too good at the moment. She leaves you with few words, informing you that she will be attending your wedding, only under escort of Dontos however, so she does expect him to make an appearance soon.

Having little else to do now you decide to do as instructed of you and make break for your family’s villa. A few bits of unattended to business was still leftover. Namely the seamstress’s daughter and your supposed child. The journey is quick and Rickard meets you at the entrance, inviting you in and bringing you a glass of wine in your father’s old solar.

“I do suppose you wish to know of the child my Lord?”

You look into the cup and then back at Rickard giving a slow nod, “I suppose so Rickard. A boy or girl?”

“A boy my Lord.”

“Does he..? Look like me?”

“No more than your other son my Lord. The boys eyes are as green as your own. A strong family trait. Otherwise he looks just as his mother, Cecilia. She named him Dorian. And has been asking for you all week.”

There was a slight drain to your happiness. A boy, almost certainly yours. And a promise you made to Dontos. You would wash your hands of the child if it was a boy. Send the mother money as was expected, maybe get him an apprenticeship someday, the small things. But you would not be his father. Your uncle was not here to argue with you but all the same. It was a promise.

Keep your promise?

>>
>>45646704
This, our promise to Dontos be damned, I still want to help the kid out even if we can't be his dad.
>>
I mean we never said we'd do a good job of not recognizing him. We could totally be a lord that "for some strange reason" saw to his education and mysteriously promised him a job if he ever needs one, or ask victus to go take his brother on when he's a knight himself, without breaking our promise.
>>
So where was Cukselle today? Was she at court?
>>
It sat poorly in the pit of your stomach, as it had for the past nine months. But your promise was made, Dontos expected it of you now. Had it been a daughter… But it was not, and here you were. A fate a young woman never asked for. And without the man that had placed her in such. You sigh and down the rest of your glass, Rickard waiting patiently before you.

“Rickard. Set the mother up with the money, monthly preferably. Make sure they’re comfortable. Keep track of them for me, when he is of an age I will count on you to help me decide where we should push him. ”

“As you wish my Lord. Do you wish to see the child before..?”

“No Rickard. Better this way. Turn the her away unless the child is in grave danger or deathly sick. Have one of the pages deliver the money without any sigils upon his coat. Hopefully in time she will forget and my son will not grow to resent the father he never knew.”

“Of course my Lord. I will see it is done tonight. The servants will be instructed not to speak of your arrival. When do you plan to leave us?”

“Tomorrow, at dawn.”

“Very well my Lord. Is there anything more I can do for you?”

“More wine Rickard. And that’ll be all.”

“Yes my Lord. I will have a page bring it from the cellars. Good night my Lord.”

“Good night Rickard.”

---

Though the haze of a hangover looms over your aching head you find yourself saddling up and readying to leave near the break of dawn. If you were a betting man, it was likely that when the sun shined you would regret even leaving your bed but all the same it was for the best. Leave before word got out, and get home to attend to your House. All the same it still sat poorly in your stomach, a son you would never know, Dorian was his name. Whether he was destined for greatness or the life of a commoner you did not know. But as your promise was, it was not your place to decide, only aid.
>>
Riding out into King’s Landing you catch the first smells of the day, fresh breads and early catch. And you attempted to clear your mind of idle thoughts, pressing towards home. Where a soon to be wife would be awaiting you soon. Where a son and Uncle waited to hear news of lost family and family soon to be made. Cousins and Aunts. Family of all kind. They’d be home. But without her. It didn’t truly feel like it to you. Not yet.

Funny that word. Home. It had all the meaning in the world to you now.

[End Chapter XXX]

I feel bad for Cecilia and the child. I hope we take care of the mom too, otherwise no one is going to want to marry her with a bastard child and no money
>>
>>45647219
Thanks for the run.
>>
>>45647219
Thanks for running, Padre. It was a wild ride.
>>
I've been planning to run a Game of Thrones quest focused on a mercenary fighting in Essos. I'm tempted to make the MC a green eyed bastard named Dorian.
>>
>>45647186
I feel like this is... Not quite what the intent of some of what a lot of people were voting for? There probably should've been more granularity to the vote than "yes>absolutely no contact besides a stipend"
>>
So that's that today. Lots of big hitting stuff today. Thanks for pushing through it all today.

I've been wanting to do stuff with Isis for awhile now. But I needed to use her in a way to show that Royce was finally starting to fall apart. Can't run things the way he is and not expect it to eventually catch up with him.

Finally getting some Varys and Arryn perspective was great as well. Their characters are very similar I find. Everything done in service to the Realm. Just depends upon your definition.

Sad about Dorian, if we ever get to a point where we can decide his life we definitely will. Brynden is going to be keeping tabs on him even though Dontos will hate it. And who knows, maybe someday he will recognize him. The world works in mysterious ways.

But yeah, thanks for playing as always. Appreciate you guys more then you know. Still blows my mind that people have been into this for 30 threads. Great stuff really.

Next thread is Sunday 28 February. At 2 PM EST. Might be an hour late but no surprises and no drinking this weekend. Much at least. Haha

I'll be around for questions as per usual. Otherwise thanks again.
>>
>>45647331

>>
>>45647219
Thanks for the thread pops, good as always
>>
>>45647389
It's Brynden's nature. He was hard pressed to not recognize the child in general. He at least wants to keep up with him. That's one of those things where it's a character thing more than anything else.
>>
>>45647424
>He at least wants to keep up with him
Yeah not even seeing him in the first place gives the opposite impression as that?
>>
>>45647457
Not really. To me it seemed as though Brynden knew he'd do something stupid if he saw his son, this way at least he's spared that suffering even he feels horrible for it.
>>
>>45647457
Basically >>45647473. That and Brynden knew it would be hard on the mother as well. He didn't feel anything towards her, notice how he never used her name? He had completely forgotten it, seamstress's daughter was what was in his head.

But seeing his son, recognizing the green eyes as his own like when he saw Isis day prior. That would have hurt him pretty bad. And then irrational Brynden would have come out.

>>45647331
I never really planned for Dorian's character so... Go for it. I'd play.

>>45648174
>>45648174
I'm glad we're putting a ring on it. Our kid with Obella is going to be one attractive man or lady
>>
>>45648210
Man, it would be even more cruel if we saw her and the child and told her we were not going to recognize it as ours. It's a shitty situation and I truly feel bad for Cecilia but then we shouldn't have been sleeping around. At the very least, this situation has tempered our womanzing behavior and with Obella around we may never have to do deal with something like this again.
>>
Oh before I forget, Dispositions sheet got updated with a bunch of people that will be at the wedding.

Decided to add some history between Lord Mathis Rowan and Dontos. So that'll be fun to explore during the wedding. Also he'll be bringing along an old OLD reference. I'd be shocked if anyone gets it.

>>45648174
I mean come on, who could resist?

>>45648210
Oh no Brynden definitely did want to see Dorian. Just knew it would be a terrible experience for everyone. I actually feel horrible about the whole Cecilia thing, I gave her a hell of a tragic life.

>>45648214
Oh man I can't wait for you to have a daughter. She is going to be Arianne Martell tier.
>>
>>45648340
>Oh no Brynden definitely did want to see Dorian. Just knew it would be a terrible experience for everyone. I actually feel horrible about the whole Cecilia thing, I gave her a hell of a tragic life.

Well we could always call in a favour from the in laws.

>A knight from Dorne just so happen to visit to have his gloves repaired
>Sees the boy and just so happen to be needing a squire
>take him to Dorne for education to become a knight
>>
So, my intent for our hand in Dorian's upbringing:
First, as an 'anonymous donor' pay for the sort of tutors that a well of merchant's son would get, so he knows his figures and how to speak respectfully in court and basically everything there is to know that isn't specifically a lordly thing to know. Will serve him well no matter what he ends up doing. Evidently we can't trust ourselves to check in on him but we can probably send household member to get new clothes for a flimsy excuse to keep tabs. And well, US not recognizing him as son doesn't preclude any kids we have recognizing him as their brother.

Should've made us also promise discretion, Dontos.
>>
Can we at least like, write an unsigned letter of apology?
>>
>>45648431
No I believe that would do more harm than good not to mention cowardly
>>
I'm just glad we're marrying Obella after knocking her up. Can you imagine how awful the situation would be if we went after Giselle and then that news came up? Dodged a bullet there
>>
>>45648580
I am sure dontos would had reacted in a calm and rational manner
>>
>>45648340
>Oh man I can't wait for you to have a daughter. She is going to be Arianne Martell tier.

Oh Seven help us if she's the first born
>>
>>45648431
No, distance is probably the best thing we can do for them next to recognizing the child and taking them in our estate in King's Landing. We're still going to support her and the child, and they'll probably live more comfortably then most commomers in King's Landing, but we should never see or keep in contact with them unless we plan on recognizing the child when he's older.
>>
Anyone hoping that by the time we see Isis she'll have grown her hair out? I'm hoping that she does and it's something of a pixie cut, because a silver haired chick with a pixie cut sounds hot as fuck
>>
>>45648619
Clearly. :^)

Man, as it is, Dontos probably has a severe case of hypertrnsion given all the shit he's seen and had to deal with
>>
>>45648686
That is really fucking hot anon.

No but seriously if our first born is a girl we're so fucked.
>>
>>45648521
>>45648642
I just want her to know we're not ashamed of her, its lordly politics that we wish she hadn't had the misfortune to be wrapped up in and she deserves better.
>>
>>45648791
We will just have to love her and guide her and hope she doesn't murder her brothers
>>
>>45648791
Eh, it doesn't really matter unless they're ALL girls given that despite a dornish mother this is not dorne. And having been betrothed from before birth will have... Well. Some sort of affect, I'm sure.
>>
>>45648791
That kid would have Brynden wrapped around her little finger.
>>
>>45648856
>And having been betrothed from before birth

>>
>everyone finally realizing what I've known since the beginning

Oh my sweet summer children you've no idea. And I already know the gender of your first born.
>>
>>45648910
We basically promised our POTENTIAL daughter to the longwater heir. (Or a longwater girl to one of our sons, the only thing that could screw this up is if both of us only had sons.)
>>
>>45648975
Speaking of, did you ever end up rearranging the dice roll so that twins weren't bizarrely vastly more likely to be same gender as opposed to 1/4 both male 1/4 both female 1/2 opposite gender?
>>
>>45648975
>Praying to the Seven intensifies
>>
>>45648995
(That said we should probably put off the official betrotal until our second kid to not awkwardly have the longwaters absorb us in the event we only have daughters. Since we'll either have a boy to safely inherit of a girl to mean it's NOT our heir that married the longwater heir.)

If we only have daughters I can think of no better house to succeed ours.

They are at least Valyrian.

And you're assuming of course that despite being from the dominant house and half-Dornish that our daughter wouldn't make her husband submit to her.
>>
>>45648995
I am on board marrying one of our daughters to the Longwaters. One of these days the Longwaters are going to be our banner house, I swear it.
>>
>>45649026
I kind of threw that whole thing out. Now I'm kind of just rolling a d6 and just working off that. A 1 is pregnant, 2-6 nah.

Then a flip of the coin for gender, unless I want something for story purposes.

Then from there I just work what would be best for the storyline and what I think is compelling for the story. Or if there's a significant push for an exact result I'll go with it.

>>45648995
Potential daughter, and that was geared towards Cecilia's child. For your legitimate children it's a bit different, they aren't promised to anyone less you have a second or third daughter that you'd like to marry to Aenys Longwaters. That's totally your call though.
>>
>>45649364
Didn't you say Brynden was super fertile? I imagine the dude is going to have a ton of kids
>>
>>45649364
>Potential daughter, and that was geared towards Cecilia's child.
That was the HOPE but we totally said "I'm sure one of us will have a daughter at some point," the fact that we lost that coinflip isn't an excuse in my opinion. Ideally yes we'll be able to arrange something of a more typical matchup but if we can't, I still think we're basically obligated to suck it up and work with what's available.
>>
>>45648818
I understand and hopefully we can do something to that effect and help the child later in life but right know our hands are tied.
>>
>>45649470
I hope it does nice things to Obella's figure. Sometimes pregnancies can ruin a woman's figure, but man on some women it makes them incredibly hot.
