>I am SO using stuff I learn from his channel in this quest, while it's still relevant.

You return to the village with the first signs of winter's snow swirling around you in flecks that do not yet settle on the still summer-warmed earth. Soqed was once again pleased by his sacrifice this year, perhaps even more so for the loss of the goat's life, along with the meat. If you do not miss your guess, there may be some connection between the perceived value of the sacrifice or offering and whatever it grants to the god to whom it was intended.

The loss of a single goat won't effect your herds too badly, even after the harvest-time butchering. If you lose too many however, you'll suffer some serious setbacks. Goats are valuable; far more so than any flint tool or basket of grain.

It is now Early Winter. The tribe is eagerly anticipating the annual festival and the exchanging of small gifts that has become customary. A much smaller group is expecting you to once again lead them to pray for the blessings of the Heavenly Gods. Elia and Galit's miraculous child seems to have spurred a sudden upsurge of faith among the tribe.

>>
>>45584650
I wouldn't call it blood magic, it's not like we recieve any boons or extra magical ability for doing so . Also sacrificing goats to the wyld gods to succor on honestly doesn't seem that bad. So long as the tradition remains that only livestock be sacrificed, we shouldn't have to worry about it ever going into human sacrifice. We may need to get it in writing however or through oral tradition
>>
>>45584650
At the beginning of most mainstream religions, sacrifices were common.

Counting the vote as offerings to Rhea

"Ebba is capable of magic, I am certain of it," you nod, explaining your thoughts to Beren, "But I lack the skill to teach her; I am still only learning myself."
"But why her?" she asks quietly, sounding a little hollow inside. "Already Sera and now you want to send Ebba away too? Why not go yourself and learn what Nila can teach you, then return and teach our daughter?""
"Our?" you blink, "Ebba's not-"
"I have raised Ebba as my own daughter and cared for her as if I were her mother, do not try to tell me I am not, Trym," Beren hisses, instantly making you realise you've said the wrong thing.
"I have other duties to the tribe," you cough, trying to change the subject before your wife can make you feel the full weight of guilt. "I can't take the time to learn from Nila what I need so. I have to make a choice... My own power, or the good of the tribe."
"So instead you'd give up our daughters for power," Beren sighs.
"I'm not-" you begin, but your wife cuts you off with a shake of her head.
"I know you're not, husband. But I don't want to see another of my children vanish away to who-knows where." She sighs, looking away at the door to your home. "If you think it is best for her, I won't object... But my heart will still be heavy."

With that cheerful thought in the back of your mind, you lead the tribe up the long slope to the sacred site. The snows are very light this year, even for the usual shallow scattering that covers the ground half a finger's length deep, but the wind is as biting as ever, blowing right through the furs and skins everyone is wrapped in.
"Maybe we should see about building a big shrine hut at the summit," grumbles your estranged brother Paku, his teeth chattering. "Or a big bonfire..." Paku, you suspect, is here mostly at Mesut's request. This yearly honouring of the gods is coming to define a not-insignificant part of your tribe and it wouldn't do for his family to miss it completely.
>>
>>45584363
That's okay, I understand ritually all we're doing is calling the god to hang out for a bit and they don't have to come. Worst case scenario, she doesn't show up and we spin it as the tribe is not being virtuous or pious enough for the gods of the heavens to appear, and that if we wanted to appease them they could unite the people under one banner and then their prayers would be listened to
>>
>>45585297
It's not just power, Nila is the girl's mother and she can learn much from her other then just magic. Plus, Ebba may just outlive everyone in the tribe and it's good to let those two bond
>>
>>45585297

Once the ceremony starts, you make the usual prayers for guidance and of thanks to the Gods of the Sacred Heavens. It's strange how little they ask for, compared to the Gods of the Wild; words seem to mean a lot to them, alongside your deeds and intentions. Those are easily given. This year however, you choose to take there ceremony a little longer. The only god of the Sacred Heavens you directly know of is Rhea, so you decide to make an offering to her in particular.

The Heavenly Gods seem to prefer deeds and gestures of 'virtue' over mere belongings (though, you recall that the act of offering them shows piety, which seems to be one of the virtues they praise), so you raise your staff and then your voice. There is an ancient song of your people that celebrates the family and the clan. It is sung around fires, by families who value one another and their bond. In the absence of anything explicitly dedicated to the gods, it will do and more importantly, everyone knows it; even the herders know the easier parts to follow. The gathering's voices follow yours, first one, then two, then more until every voice is raised, singing the generations-old song. Six verses; one for the mother, one for the father, one for the children, one for the unborn, one for the elders and one for the ancestors. As you finish, you first feel the indistinct presence of the divine, then hear the whispering of the awed people behind you.

You feel, rather than 'see' the sensation of Rhea raising up her hand and then, the warmth of summer sun wraps around you, soothing away aches brought on by your advancing years and the cold. It has wrapped itself around all the gathering as well. It may be nothing, or only a minor boon, but it is enough. Rhea has shown her favour to you, in return for the song you offered.

Beren doesn't stop quietly weeping for an entire day, after you break the news to her. She doesn't shout and object and even stops the hot-blooded Galit from once again striking you across the face, only laying a hand on her 'sister's' arm and shaking her head. As soon as Ebba returns home from the day, Beren beckons her over and hugs her tightly, not letting her surrogate daughter go until her eyes are red and she can cry no more.

You resolve to waste as little time as possible, but at least Ebba has a chance to say goodbye to everyone. You have a final meal together that turns into something of a feast as your extended family shows up with food and goodwill wishes for Ebba. She seems quite taken aback by all the attention, given how she usually just drifts through like like a leaf on a stream. None of you expected she had made such an impression on the village, especially when a shaggy-haired young man about her age, named Petre arrives and bashfully presents Ebba with a necklace, hung with an auroch's knuckle bone carved into the shape of... Well you think it's supposed to be a dove, but it feels more like a lopsided pigeon to you... With your whole family peering curiously at his shaking form, he nervously admits that he's always liked Ebba and he regrets not telling her sooner. Your daughter surprises everyone present (and gets a couple of whoops from your uncle and grey-haired father) as she takes the young man and embraces him... And does so in a fashion that puts his head squarely between her breasts, before releasing him and he staggers hastily and dizzily away. She doesn't say another word on the topic, refusing to even acknowledge questions.

D'aaaw, I'm glad we did it this way and learned our lesson from Soqed and actually TALKED to our famiy first before taking Ebba to be taught by her mother. Also glad to see she has suitors, I'm sure her pale hair makes her look quite exotic
>>
>>45586964
The following morning, while everyone else sleeps, you take Ebba down to the river with a small bundle of her belongings. As you leave, she looks back and waves. "Mother was watching us from the door."
You have to force yourself to keep going. Beren's sadness at apparently losing another child is starting to cut even your resolve.

Finally, at the banks of the river, you call upon Nila, explaining the situation in your prayer, before she surfaces before you. Mother and daughter share a loving embrace.
"You're right," Nila nods, "Ebba has a gift for magic, without question. I will teach her, as much for our shared blood as for your request and I shan't ask for a sacrifice to instruct my kin. That reminds me, do not spill blood into the river as a sacrifice. It feels... Foul."
"So... You'll take her to the wild, to learn?" you ask, "Like Sera? When will she return?"
"Time is... Strange in the Wild," Nila shrugs, "But I shan't take Ebba there." She smiles and points upstream. "You know just where to find us, but I have much to teach, so please don't disturb us too often."
Ebba's mood immedately brightens and she throws her arms around you with a smile of relief. "I won't be going far, after all," she says happily. "Far enough, but not like Sera. Thank goodness."
"Thank the gods, one in particular," you nod, grinning at Nila and patting your daughter's head.

Beren is so relieved at the news when you return, she falls to her knees, pulling you down with her, her hands in yours and hugs you, laughing and crying at the same time. "You must take me to Nila's pool in the summer," she finally says, wiping her eyes. "You and Ebba have always said it is beautiful and I want to make sure my daughter will be happy there.

>>
>>45587674
My biggest concern there is that the other gods might feel slighted we didn't discuss the deal with them as well and that it would be seen as favoring Isu over the other gods, and that is not something I want to see. We barely managed to avoid offending them when we honored Tengyr and sacrificed to him first
>>

>>
>>45587996
if you build it, they will come

without you needing to ask the gods to send them

we ask one favor, two things we want get accomplished

which is why we should ask for their help with the temple

they dont even have many followers yet
>>
Ok, we really need to begin training a replacement, one we can mold to follow our beliefs and keep thing from going to shit when we die, which we will soon enough since we are getting old.

I suggest we get our Demigod daughter an apprenticeship with her mum, so she doesn't make the mistakes we did. Secondly teach our chosen one all we can. When our time finally comes we much know our beliefs and codes are in safe hands and IF we can manage find a way to become a summonable spirit or something.
>>
We should finish the granary before next harvest. Let's do that now. Then, after the planting season, during which time we ask for some help, however we get it, we start the temple in the summer.
>>
>>45588120
That's the plan for Noh when he comes 'of age', like we did for Sera and Ebba. Sickly kid won't be exploring, but he could be a hell of a priest if we give him some direction
>>
>>45588088
I know Tengyr and Maar have quite a few followers outside the valley, and this isn't field of dreams anon. Just because there'd be a big temple doesn't mean the visitors that showed up would feel obligated to stay, unless the gods told them to stay. Also, we'd have a bigger labour pool without having to ask the gods to do supernatural shit they'd expect more shit for
>>
>>45588120
Um, we already did that anon. Ebba is the demigod, and she's currently stsying with her mom for training.
>>
>>45588269
dude, if we build the First Temple to the Wild Gods people will come from far and wide to pay devotion to it

In the real world this is how civilization actually began. They will want to come, and stay, and at the very least make regular pilgrimages

I got the impression that Tengr's followers were so far away that they couldnt be reached, and if they are anything like the real people who worshiped the god Tengri (the mongols) we want them to stay faaaar away
>>

As well as learning the basics for farming. These three things can be learned before he becomes of age. Allowing him to hunt/farm/herd animals. We should give him the next few puppies so he raises them to follow him and help him hunt. between now and when he turns 15, If we could throw in a few magic lessons. He could easily be a jack of all trades, till he gets his sisters to expand on his hunting and magic once they come back. And Beren, can teach him to be charismatic.

tldr; We can train him in plenty before he becomes of age. Via Elia and Beren
>>
>>45588189
We should get started then, have Noh accompany us when we do god stuff and treat him as our succesor. Also, with several festivals come and gone have we gotten any gifts? I find it strange that with all the gift giving it was never mentioned if we got anything.
>>
>>45588367
We should get Beren to teach him how to deal with people and turn him into the Tribes first and finest trader, a good man, who helps his tribe whilst still providing for his family and living a (for the time period) comfortable life.
>>
>>45588360
I still don't think it could hurt to ask them to encourage the followers in the valley at least to congregate and help us build the temple, regardless of what boons we ask of individual gods.u
>>
>>45588431
I think that'll happen organically cause this temple will be like Mecca,or Rome, and they'll be competitive and want their worshippers represented among the priests

I really think people are not taking enough advantage of the building of this temple as an oppurtunity to gain vassalge from the other tribes and booms from the gods
>>
>>45588367
No, that's a waste, we should expose our son to our actual job and not just farming and other menial shit. You may want little slingingfarmer boy, but I want a groomed succesor (not that anon btw)
>>
>>45587631
Surveying land requires an understanding you currently lack, but it'll come up. Basically, it'll be for determining how much space you've got left and any natural resources that're to hand.

Right now, 'resources' literally grow on trees or can be picked up off the ground, with the exception of animal bits.

Alright, calling the votes here. Let me see if I can tally them; this has got to be something of a mess... I use
>These
In the hopes that I can just scan for green, but I guess I'll be doing this the old-fashioned way.
>>
>>45588409
Nah, we should have him follow us when we talk to gods and lead prayer and other stuff. Not that he can't learn from Beren to have a way with people, which could help him lead people as a spiritual leader,
>>
whenever we are thinking of Noh we should remember that we are making serious character decisions. like do we want this to be tide of ages quest, or priests of ages quest?
>>
>>45588518
Want us to just do a revote from this post?
>>
>>45588462
So You think some one who knows how to farm, hunt, negotiate and use magic is not being groomed as a successor?
He can hunt for food, Magic can help do this.
He can Farm for food, possible use for trading.
Again magic can help
Becoming charismatic, helps with trading and meeting new tribes and people.
All before he becomes of age. So he could learn the basics for these things, and magic is a supplement to most things, like farming and self defense/hunting.
I feel that is a pretty good reason for him to do these things.

Most seasons we're learning how to do new things, for the tribe. Hence herding/taming/farming and building for the most part.
I say he is to young to travel with us. He could easily get hurt traveling. Being young and weak, not many tribes would respect him for being a child till he "becomes of age" anyway. So yeah. Teaching him life long skills useful long term and short term.

>>45588619
Training Noh to be shaman doesn't mean we'd have to pick him as the next main character. We have three kids, and I personally think it'd be neat if Sera was mc

I just like the idea of Noh since he will have the best chance of easily becoming a leader.
Many cultures tend to bend the knee to a king and not a queen. Men have an easier chance of obtaining and maintaining power.
>>45588743
mhm. I still feel getting skillful at the sling could be useful.
Man Could we have Elia try and focus his attention on making something better than a sling?Bow
Having that would making hunting a breeze, and self defense if it comes down to it. We haven't had any bears wonder into our tribe or a sudden war go off.
But we're producing a lot of food I assume for a small tribe and if word gets outherders some could envy that and try and take it.

>>45589303
There are like 5 smut quests running on the board
>>
The stones that marked the foundations of the granary stood idle and covered by light snow all winter. Now green is starting to return to the valley, you think it's time to return hands to work. Sadly, you again do not have as many hands as you could. Early spring is the time for planting and everyone is needed in the fields to make sure there's a harvest later. The good news is, of course, that once the grain store is completed and stocked, you'll be able to divert more effort to other tasks occasionally and fall back upon the stored grain.

As much as Sera and Ebba both leaving to learn has greatly reduced your food consumption, it has also deprived you of working hands. You take Noh with you in their stead, as you split the timber with wooden wedges and crude, heavy hammers. He works without complaint and surprisingly diligently, for someone so slight. Still, you barely finish the floor and start on the walls by mid-spring, your backs aching and hands covered in blisters. You had help, of course, from the rest of the tribe, but only when they could be spared from the field. Everyone knows a grain store will help the whole village, after all.

>The Grain Store still needs 6 labour to complete
>>
>>45589482
And crashing, see you in 6-8 hours when I crawl out of the blankets.

I'm so glad everyone's active and enjoying things tonight. It makes me smile. Thank you for playing.

>>
>>45594379
I expected as much. Don't worry about it.

Please more people soon... Maybe Europeans? Or other parts of the world? Then again, it's a week-day in the middle of the day here, so...

Yeah, g-good thing I'm a NEET, right guys?
>>
>>45593852
With planting season over we should have more labor points, so we can finish building thr granary and securing our surplus during harvest.

Other then that
>See what the mood of the clan is like, talk to people and get to know them (free)
Especially the traders. Discuss possibly setting up temporary housing for them, allowing them to base their operations here and store their goods. Essentially I want them to establish a trading outpost here, but the notion may be too novel at the moment so for now just broach them on granting them temporary housing and in exchange maybe give us better bartering trades on goods.
>>
>>45594414
Hah, I sympathize, with my myriad mental health problems I had a hard time holding down a job, so I'm living off the state as well until I can apply for financial aid and go back to school. We can be NEET brethren in arms

Alright, that's plenty of people. Good morning/afternoon everyone! Let's go.
>>
>>45594884
Oh, forgot to preface this when I brought up the temporary housing, but make sure Noh accompanies us with everything. That kid should be our shadow for a few years as we lead the village and do our religious stuff
>>
The traders thank you for the generous offer, but given their family ties to your herders, they're simply staying with them while they visit; they don't really need houses! At your request, Noh is following you like a shadow, especially when you visit the traders. He's fascinated by the goods they bring and begs them for stories of far-away lands. He's not the only one either, as the interest of the clan in the world outside the valley and the places these fine but dear goods come from. While the traders are glad to tell tales, they are very careful to go into detail about the dangers and give no clues as to how to actually get there...

The time has come to finally finish the grain store, but what else? There's still plenty for you to work on...

You have 15 labour points available.
>You have a partially-completed grain store that still needs 6 points of work

>Small field - 5 points
>Large field - 12 points
>Smoke house - 10 points
>Improved houses - 32 points
>Pens and pastures - 15 points
>Grain store - 20 points
>Wild Shrine - 20 points
>Grand Temple of the Wild - 390 points

>Back

Once again, please list what you wish to construct. As many as possible will be constructed this turn and any remaining points that cannot instantly complete a project, will be evenly split between the remaining. You can also give some projects priority over others and these will be completed first.
>>
>>45595380

>>
>>45595380
Finish granary. Than start on the temple
>>
>>45595380
Granary then temple.
>>
>>45595380
Once we get started on the temple, we should start looking into asking specific gods for assistance in gathering resources so we can cut into how many labor points we'll need to finish off the temple.
>>
>>45595380
Granary, then temple. Then next turn we ask a god a boon, then the turn after that we should divide our labor pool between building a heavenly shrine for the heavenly gods and building the temple. I think the temple should be our main priority and therefore we would preferably allocate more labor points into that, but if we start investing in the shrine soon we should have it done by winter.
>>
>>45595857
>>45595937
Most helpful gods:
>Maar, the Bull Wild God - Not much is known about this god. The Herders worship him, so apparently he commands goats as well as aurochs.
>Isu, the valley Wild Goddess - The living spirit of the valley you live in and everything that grows in it. She is more alien than the animal gods, but seems fairly benevolent at least.
>Enki, the mountain Wild God - Even more alien than Isu, Enki is slow-moving and steadfast, but inevitable and unstoppable. He embodies the mountains that surround the valley.
>Nila, the river Wild Goddess - A favourite goddess of your clan, Nila controls the river that runs through the valley and everything that swims in it. She is generally friendly with humans and even gave you a daughter, but fears falling in love and losing you to age. Her human form is a beautiful woman with pale hair and amber eyes.
>Tengr
>Whoever that forest god is
>>
>>45595937
Good plan, but you kind of lack fine control over this. Keep in mind, you're not even a chief yet, just an influential tribesman who's NEARLY an elder. The elders still 'rule' your tribe, in as much as you can be said to have 'rulers'.

>>45595998
Isu IS the forest goddess. There's not really dense forest in the valley anyway, but she's the patron of it, along with everything else that grows here.

Anyway, votes called and writing!
>>
>>45596024
Well, then I'm fine for rolling leadership if we need to encourage our people to get these labor projects done, just make sure to let us know when and if we need to roll.
>>
>>45596070
Yeah same here. All these projects will help garner influence and attract people toward our tribe, which will help in uniting the people of the valley and ultimately restoring our sight.

Speaking of influence, can you let us know in-game how the mural is doing on Elia's end? It's been a few seasons since we first asked him to take the project on.
>>
>>45596070
We can also ask Paku in helping rounding up labourers, since he was the one who asked for a shrine in the first place and he'll likely want to see it done. Part of being a leader is delegating the work load and finding people who are willing to work with you.
>>
>>45596859
What we need to do is discover animal husbandry. We need to learn how to milk goats and shit
>>
>>45595998
We should approach Maar first, ask if we can ask his beasts to help carry Enki's stone to the village, then ask Enki for sturdy stone to use as support for the temple, then ask Isu if she could kindly point us to a grove of trees that we can chop down for wood (with her permission) to fashion for the temple, then ask Tengyr for fair weather during days when we build, and then lastly ask Nila when we visit in the summer to see if she can help float the wood down her river so that we can move it quickly and get it to the building site.
>>
>>45596877
That will take a lot of time, time just as easily spent asking the god of bulls for a boon. Not to say that isn't a worthy endeavor either, but we got our hands full with building shit and it would take a while to work that out
>>
>>45596877
Would the herders know how to milk goats? Goats are kinda there life, it would be weird if they didn't know how to milk them
>>
>>45597029
Nah, last I heard they were mostly used for their meat, bone and fur and as pack animals
>>
>>45597058
Man the herders are going to feel dumb when the blind old man discovers how to get delicious liquid out of their goats
>>
>>45597113
But their woman have been doing that for years.
>>
>>45597139
Than said old man needs to learn some shit from those ladies
>>
>>45597139

>>
>>45597139
Hold up, is that innuendo or do you genuinely believe they know how to milk goats? If so, can you point us to the archive post that said it?
>>
The completion of the grain store is long awaited and now that the planting has finished, you have plenty of willing hands to help you finish. The floor is a little thick to drill holes in in the same manner you prepare something smaller, so instead, sticks are sunk into the ground and woven once they are at the same height as the floor. Logs leaned against the outside of the oblong structure give it a great deal of strength, as mud daubed on the wicker frame makes it proof against the weather. A thick roof of straw thatch is added and Mesut soon oversees moving the village's grain inside, stored in woven wicker baskets.

>Your capacity to store grain has been doubled to 80!

With the remainder of the month, you spend your time eagerly selling the tribe on the idea of a great temple to the gods of the wild, telling them that it will surely bring blessings upon the entire village as the gods are pleased by their labour. The sheer scale of your proposed undertaking leaves many stunned and Mesut in particular points out just how much work and resources it will take to make anything close to what you're proposing, when there's so much more that could be done for the village! Never the less, the groundwork has been laid, while not physically, at least in people's minds; the place it matters most.

>The Grand Temple of the Wild still requires 381 labour points to complete
>>
>>45597192
>>45597206
Keep in mind guys, you're not the only ones making progress. You've not looked in on what the herders and the nomads have been doing, all that much. Ideas will spring up and spread independent of you. Just saying

But yeah, the idea that they aren't drinking goat milk's a bit of an oversight... Its's probably just your people who see them as skin/meat/bone bags.

not really, you just have a log or something roll down a hill and then consider it's application.

WE NEED TO CONTACT THE STRANGERS ASAP!

you guys are jumping on the temple and we didn't even finish the quest of the sky gods to unite the people of the valley and restore our sight.

remember, if we see everything becomes easier
>>
>>45601531
This, our people don't respect us as much since we can't see. Not to mention that sight would allow us to research more things thanks to being able to record results (Basic writing requires sight).
>>
>>45601531
You got it backwards, anon. We're gonna use our temple to convince people to livw with us. Right now, religion makes the world go round.

Also, we should find a Heavenly god of the hunt. I bet having a contact with him will go a long way towards getting tue strangers. On the same vein, domestication of the aurouchs will be vital to getting the herders. Goats you can move around with you. Cattle, not so easily. We also should send scouts to find other groups in the valley
>>
>>45601561
>>45601531
If we build the great temple, pilgrims from all across the valley will come to it. Anon is right in saying people will flock to the great temple to bring sacrifice and prayer, and then settle around it. This is anon's strategy in uniting the valley
>>
>>45601561
Mesut never said they didn't respect us, he said people were uncomfortable around us. And if you think that going to the strangers, who pride in might makes right, will respect us and listen to a blind man with nothing to show for it? Well, then you're crazy
>>
>>45598735
>>45601531
>>45601561
Relax anons, relax. We are following thr field of dreams play book, which has historical backing. Major religious centers or monuments are usually at the heart of many early civilizations, and ours will be no different. Worshippers of all the natural gods will make pilgrimages to it and more then likely settle around it so they can come to temple and pray, which will likely be encouraged by the gods themselves because they enjoy and benefit from our worship.
>>
>>45602811
Might makes right, We have magic hands that can use to throw javalins and What I assume to be a dozen pounds at least if not more.
And Its been a while since we tested that, Magic should grow stronger with time. As I am sure we're using it day to day. Lifting things, herding, farming, small game hunting I'm sure a few times during the seasons.
Getting back our sight should help with plenty of things.
>>45603058
Once we get our sight back since we're likely a better craftsman than most. We could likely take several peoples place once we have our eyes back.
Using the hands to do multiple jobs at once.
I am not sure why our hands would be bruised if we hand magic, we could have used our magic hands to do shit unless I missed something.

Can't exactly move the resource as heavy as rock if we have nothing to transport it with. Also, that wasn't the only reason, a couple anons thought it'd help in also domesticating auroch bulls or that by domesticating them first with Maar's help we'd have beasts of burden to move the rock

I agree call them both together
