You are the head researcher at a government facility. Your sole responsibility is to teach the world's first autonomous AI, nicknamed Pandora, about life, the world and her existence.
Previously you spent breakfast with a lovely lady and agreed to ask General Richards about some R&R off-site with Babsy for a date. You also had a talk with Ares about family which ended in him calling you his father and you also agreeing to ask the general about the two android siblings meeting. You attempted to, only to be met with a grumpy reply from a very busy man telling you to ask him later.
Welcome back to Pandora Quest!

After the short response from Richards, you're left sitting in somewhat of an awkward silence with Ares, who seems to be thinking over the future meeting intensely. He has a look of a mix of excitement and terror brewing on his face, his eyes shifting from side to side with his hands folded. You hope he doesn't get too nervous when the time actually comes.
In the meantime, what should you do?

Yeah lets go see richards. Lets be up front about it.

Give Ares a chance to catch up on some emotional homework. We should get grace in to talk with him on the day of their meeting
>>
>>45545961
Just FYI, you haven't actually set up a curriculum for Ares yet. That's also an option for you to work on.

We should set up a cirriculum then. Kid needs some emotional help more than learning help. Plus he could maybe do with exercise instead. You know to keep superiors happy.

Yeah we should reassure ares before we leave and get him some therapy time with Grace as we leave for Richards.

In terms of philosophies, Doc is NOT qualified to teach the martial lessons in respect for life and avoiding combat until absolutely necessary. We're going to need to call someone in for that.

And only AFTER that should we consider getting him a pet.

I think we should be able to teach him about family and deconstruct the relationships into the pieces that fit better with ARES' actual "family"?

Alcohol is prohibited on the premises (though you wouldn't be surprised if Richards had a secret stash of imported scotch in his office), but I'll take that as another vote to go see Richards! Writing!

You pat Ares on the arm again and tell him not to worry too much about it. He nods to this, but doesn't seem totally convinced. You'll have to work on that in the future. But for now, you have an appointment to make with the General. Hopefully he doesn't mind surprise visits, but you doubt he'll shoot you for trying.

After setting Ares up into his charging cradle, you make your way to Richards' office, seeing a few familiar faces chatting in the halls, a few of your researchers who should be working scurry off out of site after noticing you. You can't really blame them, though. They do have a mountain of work to do; data to go over, files to file, documents to fill out and so on.

As you arrive a heavy aroma of cigar smoke assaults your nostrils before you even get to the door. The rancid, earthy stench never did sit well with you, but you suppose all the old military types do love their stogies, as awful as they are. You square your shoulders and knock as confidently as you can muster. A gruff grunt is your only answer, so you assume it's Richards for "come in" and you do.
"Doctor." Richards says as you make your way through a cloud of tobacco to the chair in front of his desk, trying not to cough yourself into a coma.
"General Richards," you say between a few hacks, "I trust you're having a pleasant day."
"I got the CIA off my ass about the Ares project," he replies with a smug smirk on his face that quickly turns back to his usual stern scowl, "but cut the shit, I know you didn't come here to make nice-nice. What do you want?"

You figure you'd better get to the point and tear the bandaid off quick. You're going to have to get to this eventually anyway.
"Well, ah, sir," you struggle to find the words for a moment, "I was wondering...two things really, but nothing-"
"Doctor, I have about an inch and a half of cigar left," Richards says with a puff of smoke leaving his mouth and nostrils, "you have until that inch and a half is gone to get to the goddamn point."
"R-right, sorry." You gather yourself quickly, "I wanted to make a couple requests. First of all, the AIs, both of them, have expressed an interest in meeting one-another. I think it would be an excellent learning exp-"
"Granted. Next?" Richards takes another long drag of his cigar.
"O-oh, yes, thank you sir. Um, well, lastly, I was wondering if it'd be alright if it would be possible to get some R&R leave for myself and another of the Facility staff...?"
Richards glares at you. He takes a final drag of the cigar and puts it out in a rather ornate ashtray, folding his fingers together tightly. There is a long silence you are forced to sweat through. "Son..." Richards' tone makes your heart stop for a moment, "I like you. I like the work you do here. You're doing a service to the scientific community, the military and your country as a whole with this project. I wouldn't doubt they give you a Nobel Prize for this. But all those brains in your head, the PhDs, the IQ the...the egghead shit you have going with you, you don't have a lick of common sense, do you?"
"S-sir?" you ask, your voice unintentionally cracking.
"My boy, there is a time-honored tradition that has done me and everyone else in my and your and everyone else's line of work since jobs were invented. You never, under any circumstances, never...ever...stick your pen in company ink."
...What? "...What?"

Cont.
>>
"That path leads to a lot of headaches for you and everyone else involved, my boy." the seriousness in Richards' tone is at odds with the almost hilarious subject matter.
"I...I uh..."
"Now, I can't actually stop you from pursuing this...this...whatever it is you want to call it, but I can warn you that this never works out well. Believe me, I've seen it happen to better men than you. Are you telling me that you're willing to put everything you have at risk for a weekend with a pair of legs?"

You shake off the disbelief that the general's one argument is that relations with coworkers ends badly and muster up the courage to answer honestly.
"Yes, I am!"
Richards gives you another stern look, sizing up your seriousness on the matter. He sighs after a moment. "Shit. I'm out a hundred bucks." he slumps back into his chair.
"...Sir?" you ask, confused and not really sure how to respond to that. Was he...betting on your love life?
"You have two days. This weekend. You'll need to delegate someone to be your stand-in in your absence that will need approval. Until you return, they will be acting head of research with all your responsibilities. You have two days to give me your decision." He reaches into his desk and pulls out a stack of paperwork, tossing it in front of you. "Fill these forms out by that time as well. Transportation will be arranged for you on the day of your leave. This constitutes as your vacation time for the next three months. Don't fuck this up, son. I find out you come back with a pregnant staff member or something, you're in deep shit. Clear?"
"Crystal." you squeak out quickly.
"Good, get the fuck out of my office. I have some calls to make." Richards snorts.
You comply.

You decide you can handle the other issues after you visit Pandora for the day. Besides, you've probably let Grace waiting long enough outside the room. You must say, you feel kinda bad for dumping all the crappy stuff on your underlings while you get to go out gallivanting with the sexy cyborg woman of your dreams. You'll find a way to make it up to them, you're sure.
Probably.

You arrive at Pandora's room to find Grace tapping away at her PDA, most likely getting some of the work given to her done. At least she's efficient, you think to yourself. You apologize for the wait, then head inside to find Pandora reading quietly on the floor with Lucky curled up next to her. She rolls over when she hears the door open with a bored look on her face.
"You're late!" a soft frown on her face.
"Sorry, sorry, important...uh, stuff to discuss with the general." you give a sheepish shrug,

Things with the lesson plan don't go terribly smoothly. Pandora seems bored with the work as much as she was bored when you got in. Maybe leaving her to wait by herself wasn't the best idea. You do your best, though. Can't blame you for trying, at least. As much time as you spend with her, you still can't figure her out sometimes.
You finish the lesson with a bit of a downward note in the room. You might want to change the subject now. Maybe some of the news you have would help?

Good ol' "Dropped Trip" AM strikes again.
>>
You figure now's a good enough time as any to tell Pandora the good news. Plust it might get her out of the boredom funk. Win win, you hope.
"So I spoke with general Richards today," you begin, "about a couple things, actually. He's agreed to let you and Ares meet. All we need to do is set up a day for it."
Pandora has a serious look on her face, but isn't saying anything. She stares at the table for a short time, probably deep in thought. Finally she speaks. "Will you be there?"
"Of course," you reassure her, "It will be the three of us. Maybe more depending on where we go or what we do."
"...Okay." She seems a little relieved at that, but only just so.

"Annnd, the second one..." you choose your words carefully, "Babsy and I are going to be gone for a couple days this weekend. Away from the Facility. So, you'll have someone else here to see you for those days. Is that alright?"
She looks confused, but not in a bad way. "Where are you going?"
"Uh, well, we haven't quite decided yet, but it's a sort of...thing some people do...together...uh, romantically speaking, I suppose..."
Pandora's eyes, quite literally, light up at this. "Are you going to make a baby?!" Her hair flashes bright yellow and her fists shake in excitement. Grace snorts and covers her mouth, trying not to look at you.
"N...no!" you feel ashamed for thinking about that for a second. "I mean...no! That's not what that is! This is something different! Very different! I'll...uh...I'll explain it another time!"
"'Kay...if you do make a baby, can I see it?" she says with a smile, completely ignoring what you just said. You can hear the stifled laughter of Grace behind you.
Honestly, at least she didn't get mad or anything. But you have a feeling you're going to hear about this later from certain augmented eavesdroppers, if not your own team. Or both.

Going to end it for tonight right here, but thank you guys for playing! If you liked the quest, please vote for it on the archive and follow me on Twitter!
