Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread you unfucked a friend's shit and flew south for the winter.

It is currently the 27th of Svarthi, in the year 936 NH.

You have absolutely no idea what the golden snake protruding from this man's back just said, but nor do you particularly care to understand. You're more interested in watching the effects of his spear at work. Stone is spreading rapidly from the point where the spear has burried itself in the worm's flesh, though it will be some time before the worm is incapacitated as massive as it is. You find it a particularly nasty enchantment, considering it would be nigh impossible to reverse. Your best hope would be to cut away the affected tissue and regrow it.

>Combat Intiated!
>Enemies Remaining: Temple Guardian (Heavily Wounded, Petrifying)
>Allies Remaining: Archer, Artificer, Agent, Zahak
>Status: Unharmed

You're distracted from watching the process of petrification play out by an explosion ripping through the creature's face, the beam of entropy it had been bringing around to target their archer suddenly cut off. When the smoke clears three of its five remaining eyes have been blasted away and the throbbing, pulsating tissue beneath. The clear fluid leaking from the wound slowly turns blue as it hits the air, as does the exposed flesh. You've never seen anything quite like it.

Unfortunately the worm seems largely undeterred, already the wound in its head is beginning to heal. The artifact-clad adventurer next to you zips forward, his boots keeping him elevated and allowing him to glide effortlessly over the mud and mire. He draws a sword from a sheathe hanging from his back, the black blade ornamented with intricate swirling designs done in silver.

A hop carries the masked adventurer up onto the back of the worm, but as he's preparing to bring the blade down into the worm's carapace a block of ice smashes into his head and sends him spinning wildly through the air, his boots preventing him from ever actually hitting the ground but likewise preventing him from coming to a stop.

The woman takes this as her cue to drop the shield she'd erected to protect herself from that beam of energy, and instead she slams her gauntleted fist down into the mud. It leaps to obey her commands, a dozen blocks of stone shooting out of the ground to pummel the worm as it slowly approaches. It seems largely unaffected, though one well placed blow does manage to smash into the exposed flesh. That ellicits a response immediately, a gargled screech ringing through the air as water begins to assemble itself around the worm. It's likely preparing for another attack.

Zahak's thoughts mingle with your own, questioning. He's confused and scared, but at the same time excited beyond belief to be fighting something so large. He wants to feast upon its tender flesh, and there's a strong desire for recognition swirling prominently amidst the storm of emotions.

>Hop onto Zahak's back, now that there's a giant hole in its head you'll fill its skull with dragon fire. (2 vys)
>Have Zahak take to the air to harrass the creature and keep it distracted, you'll stay on the ground and focus for now on countering whatever magic it tries to use. (4 vys)
>You need to get up close and personal with this overgrown monstrosity. Have Zahak pick you up and fly you closer so you can stab it in the head with your spear.

Can't we just, like, do both? I doubt Zahak would need us paying attention most of the time, so when he's fine on his own we can just focus on rotting. Also have we tried casting Paralysis/Slow/etc on it yet? If not, try that.

Zahak clealry wants to take a more active role in the fight, and you see no reason not to let him. He seems to pick up on your plan without your really needing to tell him, and with one powerful leap propells himself skyward. While he's trying to gain some altitude, presumably so he can swoop in and smash into the worm like he did the first time , you focus on the enormous worm and the spell it's trying to weave around itself.

Focusing for a moment brings the various distortions of the Sight into full view, and you're treated to a vision of the worm quite different from its actual appearance. Thick veins of vys branch throughout its body, funneling power throughout the structure of its body. A number of enchantments seemed to be carved into its flesh at various locations, with msost of them concentrated in and around the gemstone embedded where its mouth ought to be. There seem to be a number of minor spirits dwelling inside the creature, though you can't claim to know whether they serve any useful purpose.

There's also a crowd of minor spirits of all shapes and sizes spectating the fight, many of them peeking out from around pillars or floating high above. Several are standing uncomfortably close to you, including one roughly the size of a small child. It looks like a fully grown man shrunk down to no more than three feet in height, with a malformed skull crowned by antlers where his head ought to be.

You ignore them, as best you're able that is, and focus instead on the worm. The water swirling around its head has grown quite significant at this point, but surely it shouldn't be too difficult to merely reach out and seize control of the water it's already gathered. Channeling vys lets you rip away a portion of the accumulated water and freeze it rapidly into a spear of ice, which you proceed to slam into one of the worm's two remaining eyes.

It screeches, and predictably shifts its attention to you. The spear melts in a moment and the eye is quick to repair itself, but the worm is not so quick to forget. It slides towards you across the muddy floodplain though you can't profess to be particularly intimidated. Sure it's large, but what could it possibly do to you that you couldn't just throw right back in its face?

The air is filled with a hundred arrows, each one little more than a thin shard of ice no more than a hair's width. It requries a surge of vys to prevent the creature from turning you into a heavily armored pin cushion, the darts stopping no more than inches away from making contact. It becomes a battle of wills as you and the creature fight for control of the shards, one which you're gradually winning a block of stone erupts from the ground to smash into your abdomen.

You're knocked flat, your focus broken for no more than a moment. Unfortunately that moment was all the worm needed to seize full control of the hundreds of ice shards suspended in the air around you. You brace yourself, expecting the worm to focus its attack on you, but instead the spines shoot away from you, passing around the worm's head to some figure hidden behind its immense bulk.

Panic floods your thoughts, but it's not yours. Zahak realizes that he's been detected and knows that if he can't change corse his wings will be shredded by the shrapnel filling the air. You're filled with seething rage at the notion that this insect would dare to threaten your son with harm, and it's this anger which fuels your response. You rip control of the ice away from the worm through sheer force of will, the vys you expend casting everything in various shades of blue due to the altered perception afforded to you by your helmet.

Zahak calms, and the cracking of stone fills the air as your son slams into the back of the worm's head claws first. The petrified section of the worm's body cracks due to the force exerted, separating the worm into two parts. Roughly a third is still joined with the head, while the remaining two thirds begin mindlessly thrashing about, their death throes causing more destruction to the ruins than the worm itself did when it was whole.

However, the portion still attached to the head remains alive. Zahak has it pinned beneath his weight and is spewing fire into the gaping hole where half its head used to be. The battle seems largely won, though you remain wary.

>Ally Turn!
>Enemies Remaining: Temple Guardian (Near Death)
>Allies Remaining: Archer, Artificer, Agent, Zahak
>Status: Unharmed

The artifact-clad adventurer seems to have stopped his spiral at some point and now retrieves his spear, knocked loose by Zahak's splitting of the worm in half. He makes no move to attack, watching passively as your son attempts to scorch the beast hollow with his breath. The woman relaxes as well, a bridge of stone extending across the canyon carved by one of the worm's attacks so she can cross. She comes to stand beside the man clad in artifacts, the archer simply collapsing onto his back in the distance.

All seems to be going well, even if more than half of the beast is rampaging through the ruins quite like a chicken with its head cut off, knocking over remants of your people's ancient past which have likely stood for well over a thousand years. However, you're privy to something the others aren't. From where your standing you have a clear view of the gemstone embedded in the worm's head, and the crack running down its length.

Even as your son attempts to burn a hole straight through the remainder of the creature's head, beneath him sits a disaster waiting to happen. With every passing second it glows brighter and brighter, and perhaps sensing your growing fear Zahak cuts the stream of fire pouring from his gaping maw, his jaws snaping closed with a loud click. He turns towards you, confusion filtering through your mental connection.

I need to reexamine the way the magic system handles effects, maybe streamline things a little bit. I dunno, we'll see I suppose. Maybe a system wherein overall competence as a Vatis (as determined by levels in the various schools) contributes in some way to casting effects? Could also maybe do something like casting spells simultaneously so you only have to roll once, rather than two sets of rolls for different things. The cost being a higher DC.

What I think I'll do is that the DC increased by the cost of both effects.

So let's say you wanted to do what you just did under this theoretical system. Instead of rolling twice vs different DCs, you'd roll once vs the higher of the two+4. So you would have rolled vs DC 27 once instead of DC 23 and DC 17.

If I do this I'll probably also couple it with a system by which being a competent vatis provides a bonus determined by how proficient you are in the elemental magics. Basically half of your elemental magic bonuses are added together and that's your effect bonus. +4 from GM, +3 from Master, +2 from Expert, +1 from Vatis, -1 from Apprentice, -2 from Novice/Untrained. So Mik would have a +12 right now, the maximum would be a +20, and the minimum would be a -10.

It'll need some tweaking before implementation but y'know. This is what I'm thinking at the moment.

Calm overtakes panic as a solution presents itself. You simply need to put the Vys metamagic you learned in Anthus to use. Focusing your will, you arrest the flow of vys through the illuminated and branching veins to the gem. It tries to change course, taking advantage of previously hidden pathways, but these too you halt. In the end you simply need to cut the flow of vys completely, a ring demarcates the head from the remainder of the body.

That done you reach out to Zahak, your thoughts mingling with his own. {The gemstone in its mouth is unstable, it cracked at some point during the battle. I've managed to stop the flow of vys into the gem but if the beast retains even a shred of willpower it could release the stored vys destructively, and believe me when I say that is not something you wish to be near.}

Zahak bobs his head, his fear and apprehension washing over you as he takes to the air and seeks to put some distance between himself and the worm's head. Meanwhile, you allow yourself to slip into a trance-like state and split your focus, half your mind busy making sure no vys reaches the gem, while the other half starts to draw upon your reserves for a new spell. A thin tendril of vys stretches from your chest, spanning the distance between you and the gem. In an instant, it's flooded with vys. Vys which the spell carries directly into your depleted reserves.
>Vys Pool: (66/66)

The process is less than efficient, the sheer volume of vys being transported through the tenuous connection guaranteeing a significant amount of the vys is lost in transit, bleeding into your surroundings. This is fine for your purposes, since you're really just trying to deplete the gemstone. However, once your reserves are full you're not quite sure what to do with the spell. The gem still glows brightly, though it has dimmed.

An idea occurs to you, why not simply alter the target of the leech spell so instead the gem's contents are funneled into your ring? One simply alteration of the leech spell sees your idea become reality, the rest of the stored vys draining rapidly into the fragment of spiritual essence and solidifed vys wrapped around your finger. The cracked gem stops glowing, becoming instead a fairly mundane, if exceptionally large, ruby.

You think to rot the flesh around the precious stone and pry it free, but as the carapace and flesh rots away you realize that simply won't work. Much like the gem embedded in Profectus' arm, this ruby sits within a metal casing fed by black ropes as thick as your wrist. Presumably these are what channeled vys to the gem, and what you have blocked off by extension.

You allow your focus to slip, eyes opening as you exit your trance. You become aware of the fact that the woman amongst this other party of adventurers is snapping her fingers in front of your face, and looking quite annoyed all the while. Her eyes are a bright, unnatural blue. You wonder if she's a spice addict. The man in the mask stands passively off to the side, his weight leaned against his spear, and the archer is absentmindedly chews on a fingernail. You wonder if they'd been waiting long.

>Ask them if they'll help you pry out this ruby.
>Now that Zahak is safe and your reserves are more or less full, allow vys to resume flowing into the gem and retreat to a safe distance.
>Manipulate the leech spell so that the vys just drains into the surroundings, and then allow the vys to resume flowing. Surely it will run out eventually.

You stare passively at the woman, though you don't think she can see your eyes through this helmet. “It is generally unwise to disturb a Vatis while he works.” Your armor transforms your voice into a booming, mechanical roar. “Especially when that Vatis is busy ensuring that the gem embedded in the head of an ancient golem does not unleash a wave of destruction the likes of which few have seen and fewer still have survived.”

The woman frowns, folding her arms underneath her chest. As she opens her mouth to speak one of the snakes protruding from the masked adventurer's face thrust itself forward, over the man's shoulder, and speaks in that hissing tongue you fail to comprehend. “Mən sizə dedim.”

The woman swats the snake head away, and it recoils rapidly to bury itself in the crook of the masked man's neck. You're really not sure what to make of that particular artifact. Is it the only way he's able to speak, or is he just using it to mess with you, or perhaps to mess with his companions? You can't be certain.

Regardless, your attention is drawn not moments later by the woman among them, their presumed leader. “I suppose we owe you our thanks, stranger. We'd encountered that-”

You cut her off, patience running thin. “That's great, sure. I appreciate your thanks. However, we've still got the matter of this gemstone to deal with. The only thing preventing this gem from killing you and your companions is sheer force of will at the moment. I would be fine, I could simply absorb the blast with my cloak, but you three would be reduced to little more than dust. How about instead of thanking me, you help me by prying loose this gem? It's already cracked, and it's probably safe.”
(1/2)
>>
The repeated interruptions clearly have the woman irritated, but without a word she gestures towards the ruby in its metal casing. The archer leverages himself off the side of the worm and draws a thin knife from his belt, approaching the gem with more caution than is probably necessary. It takes him no more than a few minutes to pry the ruby free, and once he does you finally release your grasp on the vys stored in the cables. It shoots forward like water from a burst dam, but finds no housing to store it. Thus it simply dissipates into the surroundings, the area around the casing becoming increasingly saturated with vys.

The archer brings forward the two halves of the ruby, but rather than hand them to you he hands them to the woman, who's hands are barely large enough to hold them. Each half is nearly as large as your head, and would probably sell for quite the price if the right buyer could be found.

This is both everything that is wrong with this quest and everything that I love about it. At least we don't have to worry about the vys accumulation. That's the Cats problem now.

That isn't a problem for a spirit.

Yes, but why. The post he quoted said that pani doesn't care. How did he draw the assumption that the cat is panis pet?
>>
You glance from the woman to the two halves of the ruby in her hands, attempting to keep your voice passive when you speak. Your attempts fail, as all tone is stripped from your voice once amplified by your armor. “I hope you realize that ruby is mine.” lands some distance behind you, his feet striking the ground hard enough to shake the earth and send up a tidal wave of mud. It flows around you smoothly, and by extension avoids the party of adventurers. “I believe we can both agree I did most of the work killing that beast.”

The snakes sprouting from the masked man's back hiss unintelligibly, apparently he takes some sort of offense ot that, but the woman simply shoots him a glare. “Fine, I can agree to that. It's the least we owe you for saving our ass.” She offers forward the halves of the ruby, and from your cloak slide two pale, ethereal tentacles. They coil around the halves of the ruby and drag them slowly back into your cloak, vanishing beyond the event horizon that is the interior.

The hissing cuts off, and instead one of the golden snake heads begins to chatter away in that strange language of theirs. “Plaş haqqında soruşun! Mən bir istəyirəm!”

He's ignored, as is usually the case from what you've gathered in the brief period you've been forced to interact with these three. Striding past the woman you approach the ruined corpse of the worm, and indeed you feel confident saying that the last vestiges of life have fled the beast even though the vys continues to flow readily from the empty casing.

You'd rather not sit in the mud, so you remain standing as you channel vys and draw upon what tenuous connection you share with the cat spirit. The flesh and muscle melt away under your onslaught, rotting away rapidly even as stone grows around the base of the worm, encasing its legs and rooting it firmly in place.

You allow the vys and the will of Mahana guide you as you work with the now hollowed out carapace, The ground dries out beneath your feet and in a wide plane around the shell, and a doorway assembles itself in the blasted out hole in the side of the creature's head, leaving two lifeless eyes to stare out at any who pass. The shrine itself takes some manipulating, you think the wires end up hidden beneath the stone and the metal casing is propped up upon a stone pillar at the center of this little hall, much of which is taken up by empty space where benches have erected themselves.

It reminds you almost of a temple in miniature, and in place of grand marble columns or enormous shrines there's just a few stone benches and an ancient metal challice spewing vys into the room. As you step inside to inspect your handiwork, you note that the way the vys is spilling out of the casing and the structure of the hollowed out carapace will create an area of extremely high vys concentration, meaning this would likely be a good place to meditate.

You hear the doors grind open, black carapace grinding against stone. The archer and the woman having poked their head through the door. You worry briefly for Zahak, alone as he is outside with that man clad head to toe in various magical artifacts, but it requires no more than a moment's concentration to ensure that he's fine. Apparently he thinks melting away the flesh of the beast was a waste, he wanted to eat at least some of it.

Removing your cloak and setting it neatly on the floor in front of you, you concentrate on the idea of removing your armor. The spike in your neck rips itself free, sending pain shooting up and down your back as it retracts into your helmet. You carefully pull the loosened palaka carapace off your head, the scent of burnt hair and cooked flesh, as well as a sweet scent you can't quite identify, filling the air as you do so.

The smell only grows more intense as each spike in turns withdraws from your ruined flesh, leaving ruined tissue in their wake. You had the presence of mind to remove your robes and your shirt before putting on the armor, which is good because you only have one robe suitable for court since Profectus ruined your Grandmaster's robes. As your cuirass slides off and falls into the depths of your cloak, guided by Ricky's gently grasping tentacles, you hear a muttered curse from the doorway.

The rest of your armor falls away rapidly, and a white linen shirt extends itself from the surface of your cloak born aloft on one of Ricky's tentacles. You take the garment, the intricately curling burns which cover your back knitting themselves closed inch by inch as you channel vys. Burns have always been hard to heal, due to the nature of a burn. It destroys the flesh, rather than simply carving through it. Still, for a Grandmaster Water Vatis anything short of regrowing your lower half is fairly simple.

Plus, aside from the enormous mass of burns covering nearly the whole of your back, shoulders, neck, and upper arms you're looking pretty good. You're maybe even starting to look a little tone, though you've got a long way to go before you're on Darzi's level. Gods, before you're even really on Profectus' level. That's almost embarassing actually, an elf is more muscular than you are. You need to do more intensive training.
(1/3)
>>
Once you've thrown on your shirt, your black and silver robes slides next from the depths of your cloak. You likewise pull it on, lacing it up down the front. The silk gleams dully in what little light is permitted through the slats in the carapace and through the doorway. Dressed, and with the last of your armor stored finally within your cloak, you drape the long black garment over your shoulders and fasten it about your neck with the communication brooch.

Turning sharply, you bow briefly to your audience. “My apologies, if I've seemed rude it's because I haven't really been paying attention. More important things to deal with, you understand. What brings the three of you so far out into the desert?”

The woman pulls the door open fully, the archer following after her as they enter the body of the shrine. “Well, to be honest we're heading south into the Pa'vala from Dombruk and ran across this place on the way, thought we'd check it out. Proved a pretty good decision if I'm being honest, we found some good stuff forgotten in these old ruins. We were just wondering how it was nobody had managed to loot this place already when that giant worm came bursting out of this collapsed portion of the chamber we were picking through.”

You're momentarily distracted by an orange tabby cat leaping carefully into the metal casing suspended upon a stone pillar, but Mahana simply curls up to watch the proceedings. He makes no move to contact you so far as you can tell. “What's the story with your friend, the one wearing all those artifacts? I've never heard a language like the ones the snakes sprouting from his back speak.”
>(2/3)
>>
She rolls her eyes, leaning her weight against the door frame. “Long story short, that mask of his is part of a larger suit of armor that translates everything he says into that nonsense. We can't understand him either most of the time, and what little we can is usually no more than a word or two. Apparently he's starting to get rather proficient with it though. We figure it might come in handy in the Pa'vala, maybe.”

The archer chimes in as well, his accent placing his home somewhere around the city of Apejo. He draws out his syllables, much longer than people from Western Pidjata, and speaks slower as well. “We found it in this old temple, when we were last in the Pa'vala. Took it to a friend of ours and he thinks it might be of Elaudian origin. A gift to the Shahanshah, or some local lord.”

The woman nods. Her eyes are sort of unsettling, now that you think about it. Maybe it's just the lighting. “You picked a good time to swoop in, we'd been fighting that thing all through the temple trying to get to open ground, and then you come flying in out of nowhere on the back of a Gods cursed Dragon-”

You interrupt. “Hey, hey. He's not just some 'Gods cursed' dragon. That's my son you're talking about.” You're greeted by silence, which you allow to grow for a few seconds before elaborating. “Adoptive, of course, but I pried him out of the depths of an old abandon mind and hatched him myself. As far as I'm concerned he may as well be of my blood.”

The archer seems horribly disappointed. “So, you didn't bed a dragon then?”
(3/4)
>>
How would that even work? For one, you've little idea whether or not the anatomy of a female dragon is even compatible with your own. Plus you'd probably just get your head ripped off if you tried.

The woman is offended in your stead, her foot lashing out to catch the archer lightly in the calf. “Try not to look so devastated, Rahim.”

Rahim, for his part, looks largely nonplussed. “What? It's just what would have made for the better story is all. Man seduces a dragon and produces a half-dragon son from the union, then proceeds to traipse about the desert with his mutant progeny. It would have been a love story for the ages.”

>>45527221
Honestly, like half of the reason i pushed it was to become his first disciple. I likely just won't vote now if it comes to it.
I wanted seniority. But I am sure even if we're third we could run shit in his realm since we did a shit ton of the ground work.
But fuck it anyway.
>>45527252
Meh, I am now more interested in commanding Ricky to make us his disciple.
>>
>>45527252
This, not to mention that we're honestly pretty shit with authority.

I can see the Shah, the cat, and Darzi getting drunk bitching about us and eventually storming our Fathers house to demand an answer.

Who then points the finger at our master who gets interrupted banging an elf, and we suddenly have to go convince a court that he isn't insane.
>>
Why do people think becoming a disciple is a good idea?
I'd honestly like to hear your reasoning, I was for it at first but ended up voting against it after I thought about it.
What we have right now is a working relationship, he gets a slightly better end of the deal than we do, but that's to be expected when you're dealing with something that is more powerful than us and much much older.
But our relationship basically work out to we do something for him, he gives us something we want.
You could say that we're business partners.
If we become a disciple we switch from being partners to being his employee.

So, nobody wants to look into all the spirits hanging around here?

Benefits, of becoming stronger than should be possible. But like I said previously I am now leaning more towards just becoming a disciple of Ricky. Seeing if it would be alright. I think we might have to strengthen our soul. See about getting that GM in Surya's heart. And speaking to the orb in our brothers Office once we accomplish that and expand our rune library a bit more.

With the major progress we've made towards enchanting with Divine Essence we should hold off on becoming a disciple. Hell in less than a year quest time we may be able to bind mahanna into our belt.

>>
>>45527548
We'd become stronger, but we managed to kill the other spirits disciple without any of our normal gear, it makes me question just how much stronger we'd become.
It would directly tie our survival to the cat, and it would limit our ability to just go out and do shit.
I don't think void entities do the whole disciple thing, and I'm against becoming a disciple at any point, at least we have a bit of an understanding of the cat's goals, all we know about Ricky is that he eats goats, fingers, and faces, and that he has a masters degree in interior decorating.
100% supporting gming in Surya's heart, and then talking with the orb dudes again.
>>
>>45527644
Man i just wanna stay a free agent right now.

It's like waiting until you;'ve hit ur prime before signing a contract. We're still gaining power so rapidly that it's impossible to put a worth on our disciplehood. Wait for a while.
>>
>>45527633
What progress? Literally the only steps forward are learning that we need to git gud at Nature magic and that's been hinted at since we learned that it was the Nature goddess who initially taught people divine enchanting, it's just that thick as fuck anons needed it explicitly stated to get.

Is gate travel Fire magic?
>>
>>45527677

Why would we stop getting stronger

>>
>>45527657
A spin off of this anons point is how void entities literally obliterate divine essence upon contact and we come in contact with void entities all the time, namely ricky and have some of the spirits DE in us could fuck with things.

Also i strongly support consult the orb guys on disciplining and shit before doing it. you never know what it could lock out or open up and they're pretty knowledgeable.
>>
>>45527685
The Cat did say back in the day Nature magic = manipulating the DE.
>>
>>45527685
Dude we're the first person in thousands of years to bind and contain a spirit.

Literally all we have to do is start meditating on how to us its DE like we do souls with Permenancy.
>>
>>45527657
The point being we would be stronger than usual.
And we would also res.
While he is not killed by our death he is weakening him self to provide power to us. Thus making us an investment he wants to maintain. And has a significant invest in keeping alive and happy.
But i am all for tabling this, till we have a better rune library, a better understanding of Divinity. And ways of improving our soul. So once we do if we do engage in becoming a disciple we could absorb a SHIT ton of power.
I am sure if we gain him another realm and a few more shrines before his other disciples get much done. We will always be his favorite even if we sight up after 100 others.
>>
>>45527698
We wont, but we'll eventually get to a more level point in the grand scheme of things. Right now we're a strong up and coming rookie. Give it some more time and we'll sure be strong as fuck but we'll be more sorted when it comes to how valueable we are on the scale of spirits and "the big picture" ya know?

Like all we really know right now is we're advancing really fast and what we've learned from mahanna and the globe. We haven't had a lot of contact with other outside forces to compare ourself to.

Like we haven't even met his disciples. Like if they're supposed to be considered strong as is but before they we really plebby then it skyrockets our value.

I think the most valuable thing to go into this whole thing would be first figuring out how to manipulate Divine Essence. Especially since it could very well lead to us being able to reverse the affects of discipling if we find we do not like it.

>And die if he dies
Different anon who didn't vote for Disciple, but this point always seems iffy to me. Mahana's tougher than Mik is and he's been kicking for literally millions of years. It always seemed really weird that people would point at the life link as the danger rather than, say, getting roped into more dangerous situations we can't run away from. It's far more likely that something would kill Mik in the middle of some bullshit mission than it is that something would kill Mahana and Mik dies out of nowhere.

It occurs to you that you haven't properly introduced yourself yet, nor have they come to think of it. The fault doesn't solely lie with you. Bowing properly this time you touch two fingers first to your forehead and then to your chest. “Mikhael, of the house Abdul-Hakim.”

The woman doesn't seem to grasp the significance, but Rahim at least is duly impressed. “I didn't realize we were rescued by a prince. If I'd known I would have worn more revealing clothes, maybe chained myself to a pillar. Put on some make-up certainly.”

He returns your bow, with a rather unecessary flourish. “Rahim, of the house Gadhavi. A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Mirza Mikhael.”

You recognize the name Gadhavi, their main branch is a family of Marzban that's grown quite powerful over the years. Their seat in Media, just to the east of Apejo, is one of the Shahdom's largest fortresses. Once it was the only thing maintaining a thin strip of territory reaching between Elaudia and Apejo, but these days it's not really all that close to the front lines anymore. It serves as an organizational center more than anything else, if you recall correctly.

The woman joins the conversation, tone obviously annoyed. “If you two are quite done flirting with one another, Indira Al-Jibour.” She doesn't bow, but she quickly mimics the gesture at least. The Al-Jibour are a clan of commoners, their noble branch having died out quite famously during the collapse of the Hiacian Empire. Still, she doesn't speak like you'd typically expect. Well educated, you'd guess. “Our friend is Adnan, he'd introduce himself I'm sure but last I saw he was in a staring contest with your... son.”

It wouldn't be bad if we could do it and then undo it any time we want.

>"you think you can force me to do anything?"
>remove DE from us and keep it in a gem
>proceed to cut him up and bind him away as future enchanting material
>>
You don't appreciate the look of distaste, carefully concealed though it may be. You'll let it slide for now but if she keeps this up you'll not be nearly so kind. “So a nobleman, a commoner, and one of the clanless journeying Pidjata and seeking their fortune. An interesting little group you have, though to be fair mine is no better. Humans, elves, and forgotten experiments pried out of Rhynian ruins.” You shrug your shoulders. “I take it you're quite familiar with the Pa'vala?”

Rahim nods, retrieving a pipe from a pocket on the inside of his vest and packing it with a fragrant mixture of opium, tobacco, and other various herbs no doubt. “You could say that. This will be our fourth trip in twice that many months. We met-” He gestures vaguely with the pipe before placing it in his mouth, a small flame manifesting in the bowl as he does so.

Indira takes over where he left off. “Last year really, but we didn't start traveling together until recently. Adnan was really the one to bring us together, he'd been doing this longer than either of us and he's the one that suggested we journey the Pa'vala. Those boots of his are really wonderful little things, wish we'd been able to find another pair.”

Rahim nods his head sagely, smoke curling from his nostrils. “I hear a lot of hunters end up with a pair sooner rather than later, apparently they're a family heirloom of sorts. Allow you to cross the Pa'vala without worrying about attracting the attention of the palaka.”

You can see why that might be useful. “Any advice for someone thinking about journeying the Pa'vala? Originally that was going to be my next destination, but I've decided to first seek the recipe for Elaudian Steel in that vast eastern jungle. I could offer advice regarding the northern kingdoms in exchange.”

>>
>>45527942
What did I just fucking say, anon? Truly, you are without hope.
>>
This feels like the final update for today.
>>
Surya was collecting the Divine essence of people who died in order to regain his divinity, so wouldn't it be possible to take it ourself and start working Mik towards apotheosis if we learned how to into divine enchanting and self enchanting?
>>
The archer points the stem of his pipe at you. “Don't fuck with palaka worms unless you've got a few people with you who know how to deal with them. Generally in the outer reaches you don't have to worry, but if you see a dune that moves you need to get onto solid ground, and fast. Now, let me be clear. I don't mean turn the sand to stone or anything of that sort. I've seen more than one Vatis try that nonsense. The stone surface acts like the skin of a drum, amplifying the vibrations of each step you take and thus making it even more likely you'll attract a worm.”

The woman nods. “That, and make sure you have a good guide or a good map. The trails can get you pretty deep into the Pa'vala relatively safely. I mean, nowhere in the Pa'vala is ever safe, but the trails are safer than pretty much anywhere else. Keep an eye out for exposed structures, because they're often a good place to safely bed down once you clear out anything dwelling inside. Also, don't trust the tribals. They'll just as soon drink your blood as greet you, and that new leader of theirs has been pretty aggressive in guarding her territory.”

Mahana is starting to look a little impatient, as much as a cat can look impatient. His tail flicks eratically back and forth, smacking lightly against the metal casing as if to draw your attention. Wandering over to the stone pillar housing the centerpiece of this little shrine, you scratch under his chin in the hopes of placating him. “How rude of me, I've failed to introduce a close friend of mine. Rahim, Indira, meet Mahana Atma'agaprthvi. He's a spirit older than the Hiacian Empire, whom I've had the pleasure of getting to know over the last month or so. He's actually the one I built this shrine for.”

What if we just made a bunch of boots and slapped as many Conceal runes on them as possible? It seems like that'd be plenty good for sneaking.
>>
>>45527965
Do you know what Discipling means Anon? It means he is enmeshing our divine essence with his. That means he controls our divine essence. That's our soul, permanently in his grasp. If he dies, we die. He wills it, we must obey. Even if we attain cosmic, demigodly power and knowledge, we'll still be chained to him. Going our way doesn't shoot us in the foot like discipling does.

They don't answer, rather rude of them really, but you go ahead and offer some advice of your own. "As for the northern kingdoms, I suppose the best advice I could offer is to take risk were others wouldn't. I've done some truly dangerous things in my time adventuring. I've walked into the den of a dragon and stolen one of her eggs. I've consorted with spirits and entities from beyond what we generally conceive of as reality. I've fought constructs gone mad after the collapse of Rhynia and stabbed more needles into my forehead and chest than any reasonably man ought to."

You shrug. "Sure it's come back to bite me in the ass more than once. I've had several different parasites join themselves with my soul, and each time having these parasites removed was a rather lengthy process. I've been stabbed, slashed, burnt, and boiled. I've caused immeasurable harm to others just as often as I've saved them, though I suppose the friends I've gathered would vouch that I'm not all bad. Yet, at the end of the day, I'd still say it was worth it."

Mahana's purring is loud in the silence of the shrine, some sort of unseen communication passing between Indira and Rahim. It's ultimately the archer that speaks, his voice calm. “Are you sure you're okay? You've seemed a little out of it ever since we met you, if I'm being honest.”

>You're fine. You hate to be rude, but you think Mahana wanted to speak with you about something.

>>You're fine. You hate to be rude, but you think Mahana wanted to speak with you about something

>>45528082
No. It means he puts a small portion of his DE inside of our soul. It allows him to speak and mildly influence us (Soma confirmed that there's almost zero chance of him being able to force us to do anything, and that was before we got the mind trait or got Master in metal) but his DE would just be inside of our soul. theoretically it should be possible to remove it.

But i still completely agree with going our own way for a long time yet. Who knows in the future, we may be able to make Mahanna our bitch and enslave him to us.
