We've taken this and fluffed them out as Hong Kong cyberpunk helghast. Descendants the crew of a gigantic mining vessel that crashed on an inhospitable planet and survived despite it all. They are extremophiles, proud, (literally) bright, and consummate bug hunters. They are the Exterminators.

So feel free to join in and provide fluff, images or whatever you'd like. This belongs to /tg/

The hive was cut off from the Imperium for a long while. Its safe to assume that they developed a decent system for self-sufficiency in order to survive on their own
>>
I'll post the other soldier i made.

Maybe i should start using a name just to make it easier to recognize
>>
And the flag
>>
>>45464192
Is this our CO now? I could support this as long as that beret is neon pink
>>
>>45464004
remember, this is but one regiment from a planet we're still fluffing out

there very well could be more regiments that are far closer to standard IG, and the planet has a sizable PDF

also, I still don't like the "airless void planet" angle and prefer that it just has an atmosphere with too much neon for humans to breath. That way all that's needed is air filtration rather than straight importation, which doesn't sound like it would've worked if they'd been abandoned for quite a while before reestablishing contact with the rest of the Imperium.

>>45464029

feel free to offer suggestions
>>
>>45464029
These guy's should have an anti-authority streak, since they were left to die by the Imperium, grew up mostly in crews and gangs, and are super proud. Also, it fits with the whole cyberpunk theme
>>
>>45464244
Well, if everyone wants him to be the CO, sure. It was just a try for how an officer could look.

I got the name thanks to the scarf.

>>
>>45464262
Hmm I dunno, every cyberpunk setting needs its brutal and efficient government forces that shoot first and ask questions later
>>
>>45464301

>>
>>45464244

>>
>>45464262
>>45464301
>>45464317
Also the regiment technically originated off-world and simply came to live here when the ship crashed and they had to deal with the nids so a more authoritarian stance makes a little more sense to me
>>
>>45464251
it's perfect, just fill in the small white spaces, like inbetween the letters
>>
Wanna fluff up the planet a little more? What sort of life is in the hive? How do they survive without offworld aid? What is the planet known for besides neon lights and bug squashing?
>>
Okay guys, I have no idea what I'm doing but I tried to write up something that would work as (for example) a 1d4chan intro. I imagine I misinterpreted some of the fluff so feel free to disregard this completely, I didn't waste much time on it.

>In the grimdark depths of Hua Yuan’s singular, eponymous hive city, there are only gangers, dead bugs, and disco. Or, at least, that is the hive’s reputation. The Hua Yuan 1st Exterminators (who are, coincidentally, also the only Exterminators) are experts at pest control, shock and disorientation tactics, and urban warfare. The regiment is renowned for their use of neon-colored and luminescent-adorned armor, initially intended to blend in with the underhive’s unique lighting arrangements. Over time, the Exterminators came to incorporate their “unique” aesthetic taste into their regimental tactics, making extensive use of fireworks, disorienting lights, and multicolored smoke bombs to confuse and isolate enemy units. The Exterminators’ ranks are drawn from the first-born children of all classes of the cramped industrial city; administratum clerks have speculated that the decision to include underclass conscripts may explain the regiment’s penchant for leaving colorful graffiti everywhere they are deployed. Despite these eccentricities, their origins in the extraordinarily-cramped and dangerous mining city have made the Exterminators ruthlessly efficient when confronting hive gangers, on other worlds or their own.

>Hua Yuan is itself built around the remnants of a wrecked colonization vessel. Trapped within the damaged hulk – and initially unable or unwilling to explore the surrounding world’s atmospherically-challenged terrain – the survivors expanded their living space downwards. After [resource] was discovered, a thriving mining industry developed and the hive city expanded until the world was threatened in [date] by the infiltration of a Genestealer Cult. The Exterminators gained their name and reputation during their efforts to remove this infestation; this is also when the troopers developed their penchant for taking ghastly war trophies to adorn their armor and vehicles, intended to display their perseverance. The Exterminators are a proud regiment; proud of their hard-fought victory against the ‘nids; proud of their hive’s survival on an inhospitable world; and proud, perhaps above all else, of their ability to succeed in any urban environment.

I should have mentioned that was supposed to be a joke link in the style where you hover over it and it'd link to something, I forgot to change it when I realized there's no "flashlights" article though. If we come up with more stuff I'll edit it to include the theft bit and whatever else I forgot (or someone else can rewrite it w/e)

Also I'm going to dump the images from last thread (I didn't make them). File name = what it is.

link disco to the lasgun article. I think that's even funnier
>>
>>45464758

I can't into wikis so someone else has to do it. I guess I'll make an account if nobody else does.

Also I couldn't think of a way to include "they're Hong Kong n shit" in that little blurb without just saying it, which doesn't really work for that sort of thing imo. Unless it was like a link out-of-wiki to Wikipedia/Hong Kong when you hover over the '"unique" style' bit or its equivalent.

(TL;DR administratum would want a bigger tithe than 1 regiment, money's going to run out eventually)
which did not get discussed

Personally I liked the only-1-regiment idea solely on the basis that it explains their more eccentric stuff (all levels of hive society mixed together = inwardly authoritarian but still "fuck the police" Helghast-tier towards outsiders). But I also think he made a valid point.

Suggestion.

Have the cloth parts of the uniform be the blue color, like the shirt, the pants be the dark brown, and the pouches the light brown, with the hard parts if the armor such as the helmets and kneeguards be the pink color. See if that makes a good combination.

former mining officials and deck officers developed into the noble houses of the world, and they squabble for power and influence, especially now that the economy is on the rise again

whoever takes control of Hua Yuan has a modest but stable fortune to rest their laurels on
>>
>>45465434
It'd probably be really tribal/ family orient since an entire family/group of families live on top of one another. Probably literally
>>
>>45465562
countless of these noble houses have developed, all claiming the right to authority, this has led to an even greater number of private armed forces, essentially better equipped gangers, all claiming to be PDF's and work for the planetary government

more often than not these houses make war upon one another, but they stand united in quelling the establishment of yet more would-be houses and, of course, maintaining the subordination of the levels below

in spite of this, or perhaps due to it, the other levels remain unaware of the conflicts going on above, as what color of uniform the cops wear don't seem to affect how hard they beat them

as a result, thousands upon thousands of gangs have developed in the lower level, for the sake of defending their territory and acquiring resources for themselves
>>
>>45465562
Or that's the general view. The top tier of the nobility, the patriarchs and matriarchs of the corporations who hobnob with the Mechanicus surveyors and have access to the product data and tithe rolls, know that the money is slowly running out. The only thing they can do is push quotas harder so they can embezzle enough under the Imperium's nose so that they can escape once the mines run dry, all the while giving the impression that there's nothing wrong. Feeds into the old cyberpunk-y greedy megacorp rulers exploiting resources to silly levels while emphasizing the greater Imperium's pure lack of care for how they get their share. Might also lead to noble families forcing their sons and daughters to join the Guard. It gets the spare heirs out while the goings good, and at least some of them might survive long enough to make contact with useful parties and smuggle out the odd nest egg. From the regimental perspective you'd then have the odd nobleborn officer with the most fancy equipment and useful contacts with other IG noble officers (as per background), but who are not up to speed with the more brutal combat skills of the common soldiers

anon, I have some bad news for you

>>45465434
In addition to being cramped even for a hive, the lowest levels are built into and under both the crater the ship left on impact, and the spent mines beneath. Due to the incredible population density, the vast majority of the population of Hua Yuan live in absolute squalor, facing unemployment and starvation or being treated no better than servitors. Even attempting to join one of the planet's many "PDFs" is difficult for those on the very bottom, as there are ample human resources to draw from in the middle and even upper echelons of the hive.

In an attempt to bring more attention to the world and the resources it has to offer, however, the many noble houses have agreed to allow any able-bodied first-born volunteers to join their sole Guard Regiment as their required tithe. This provides some avenue of escape for those on the very bottom through an opportunity to see the galaxy, prove their homeworld's existence, and perhaps someday even see natural light.

How close are we planning to make this to Hong Kong? We could throw in a lot of references to the Triads and could have the Commissariat act as the British.

we have a completely untouched part of the fluff in that we have an allied guardsman force from a particular planet

they could also be acting as the effective government on the world since the nobility can't agree on an official leadership

Edited version of the second half of the blurb to adjust to this:

>>Hua Yuan is itself built around the remnants of a wrecked colonization vessel. Trapped within the damaged hulk – and initially unable or unwilling to explore in the world’s neon-saturated atmosphere – the survivors expanded their living space downwards. After mineral deposits were discovered, a thriving mining industry developed. The mining expanded to include neon harvesting, and the world's population grew exponentially as off-worlders came to exploit these resources. The hive city expanded until the world was threatened in 899.M41 by the infiltration of a Genestealer Cult, which marked the beginning of the hive's long economic and social decline. The Exterminators gained their name and reputation during their successful efforts to remove the Tyranid infestation; this is also when the troopers developed their fondness for taking ghastly war trophies to adorn their armor and vehicles, intended to display their perseverance. The Exterminators are a proud regiment; proud of their hard-fought victory against the ‘nids; proud of their hive’s survival on an inhospitable world; and proud, perhaps above all else, of their ability to succeed in any urban environment.

I changed some of the wording since I did a shit job the first time tbqh, "penchant" twice in two short paragraphs is inexcusable.

plus, importing oxygen would be a huge hassle to have to write around

>I wonder what that would look like
well, as was said in the last thread, lightning strikes would be orange and depending on how lasguns work so would they

it would be extremely easy to produce things like neon lights since most people are going to be wearing masks or cybernetics that filter neon from the air

it could very easily be said that they store this in filtration tanks of sort to be turned into lights or to be sold offworld
>>
>>45468203
So, almost exclusively neon lights in the hiveworld. Since they were isolated from a time long past, maybe synth music was sort of an esoteric trend that long died away and was forgotten from the rest of the Imperium, but remained and became popular in Hua Yuan, or something dumb like that

Do they use vehicles? Are these vehicles also neon and shit?
Maybe drug abuse in the common ranks of the exterminators?
Genetic or physical augmentation (having their skin be bio-luminsescent? Or eyes being replaced with flashing light eyes?)

Idk why but they reminded me of XCOM operatives when i first saw them so thats what got me thinking about genetic mods.
Since bright lights and neon are their thing maybe having luminescent regimental tatts?
Or given how its a semi gang culture, maybe tats to show certain deeds, like killing an exeptionally powerful enemy.
In regards to actual genetic mods and physical augmentation, maybe the higher someone is in the heirarchy the more they will have? For example skin that seems to shift and change colour like a lava lamp, or eyes that flash different colours like a disco ball

Vaporware is just too far past what I am beginning to refer to affectionately as 'partypunk.' It has weird designs, but no flashing lights or loud beats, and it's not at as all as dirty as a not!Hong Kong hive gang would have.

I would find it funny if they had feung shui, but with horrible neon colors and lights. Also they obviously need to make heavy use of blind grenades, and possibly plasma alongside their lasguns.

I'm honestly not quite sure where we're at.

Are we making fairly serious xenos-hunting Chinese themed Imperial Guardsmen, with some silly neon colors to add some spice to the cool fluff?

Or are we using the Hong Kong stuff as a good way to build a regiment entirely around flashy punkish stuff, and will play it fast and loose when it comes to being serious?

right now I'd say that they're more the former, considering the history of the regiment.
They're pretty hardcore gangers and workers that have escaped a life of hard labour in exchange for a life of high risk xenos hunting. Considering how grim a hive city with the occasional genestealer infestation is I'd say they take their tactics pretty seriously.

Alright guys, I tried to incorporate a bunch of peoples' fluff into the city description on wiki. I came up with this. Just letting you know so I'm not sneaking anything in there that's actually wrong:

>Hua Yuan's atmospheric neon abundance has resulted in the near-universal adoption of neon lighting throughout the hive; even the lower levels have access to at least some of this technology. The lower hive is notable for being extremely cramped, even by the standard of hive cities. Above the narrow confines of the mining areas, the midhive is.. well, also cramped. What's left of the mining industry, and the more recent neon extraction, have kept the planet's economy thriving now that contact has been reestablished. As a consequence, the midhive is a very active place. Another notable export is entertainment, in the form of vids and music recordings. These are a niche good in the greater galaxy, as other cultures consider them to be hilariously cheesy. Former mining officials and deck officers developed into the noble houses of the world, and they squabble for power and influence in the upper hive, especially now that the economy is on the rise again. Whoever takes control of Hua Yuan has a modest but stable fortune to rest their laurels on.

Personal Journal of Commissar Dans
>entry 167

I have been assigned to the Hua Yuan Exterminators after reports of possible xenos corruption among the Veteran members. I linked up with the Exterminators Vets during one of their many recruiting trips home. This was to guarantee my safety on Hua Yun as firearms of any kind are strictly banned on the hive. (Commissariat excluded of course). I've met the Exterminators Vets briefly before they went throughout the hive recruiting, and their armour is very impressively reinforced with 'Nid carapace. I noticed however an abundance of 'guant skulls on some of the troopers as well small hole drilled in the base of 'guant skull that has been the source of these rumors of xeno corruption and worship. After dismissing the men to their recruiting duties I choose to follow an Exterminator officer covered in many xenos skulls including one that was yet drilled and seemed to be sealed in wax. I tailed him easily in the distinctive neon armour and witnessed their method of recruiting officer's first hand. The officer went to upper hive and collected his highborn volunteers and lead the young men deep into the lower hive.

The officer candidates were lead into a empty warehouse facing 10 enlisted Exterminator regulars and told to kill them.
Those who did not immediately charge were dismissed. Hive War requires speed and aggression. The 5 brave souls who did charge beaten nearly to death by waiting exterminators
The officer, who I had begun to assume was a medical officer, stitched their major bleeding and then choked them unconscious.
he then drilled that small hole in the 'Nid skull mixed in a grey powder with the juice he extracted from the skull. To my misfortune I was then grabbed by two veterans who had discovered my vantage point. I firmly told them to unhand me or face death, but was ignored as they choked me to unconsciousness in a similar way as their recruits. I was roused roughly outside of a small hab-block

Recruiting should probably be a lot simpler than that. Gang warfare's probably almost always happening, with melee weapons and illegal/homemade guns. Recruit whichever gangs do best en masse.

also trying to justify neon

With my five compatriots I was asked if
I wanted to lead exterminators and handed two neon orange knives. Before I could voice my indignation, A rebreather was strapped to my head and I began to inhale the Tyranid compound I was pushed into the hab-block as the color faded from the world and I desired only its return. The drabness of the world enraged me as I charged into the block. Then I was saw the source of the drabness, xeno cults in the hab, and charged them with my knives to which color returned as I killed and purged, the deception of human appearance faded as I saw the truth of these genestealer cults, I was my allies gain color as they killed alongside me, then when we seemed overwhelmed and prepared to fall in this hell. The Exterminators crashed into the hab-block from all angles killing like neon angels. I awoke In their barracks feeling more ill than
I have felt in my entire life, but reassured in purpose to fight alongside the Exterminators, although I felt the world still lacking somewhat in color until I donned my new commissar coat with comfortingly glowing pink and green before my eyes.

Let's throw in another one just for fun

The bright colors actually mean more to the people of Hua Yuan than other Imperials. The miners who originally crashed-landed on the planet were organized in color-coded teams. When gangs were organized, some kept the old mining colors out of respect, while others adopted new neon-based colors, or mixed the two in crazed combinations. Certain neon gasses are more valuable than others - perhaps a bright glowing green means the same thing a burnished gold would mean to the average Imperial.
>>
>>45471888

I just realized this post came off as really rude, sorry m8. I'm just quite tired. I actually like the idea of the nid adrenaline making the colors useful, I was just trying to bring up that there are other uses as well.

And yeah it looks preddy promising, I've always thought HK is about a pink moehawk or two away from being cyberpunk as fuck. (looks all shiny and neon on the outside, but it only takes a couple of steps before you run into the murkier alleyways and shit)

If we're talking actual HK, there's quite a bit of talk about megacorps and our gov being too buddy-buddy with each other, with smaller family-owned business pushed out further by bigger corps monopolizing the place/stupidly high rents.

All that emphasis on triads are pretty ehhh...not like we don't have those anymore (they're still around) but they're not quite as prominent as they seem to be in the movies. Though with all the shit going around, some of us joke that the police actually act worse than the gangs.

In parts of Central (think of it as HK's main financial district) the terrain is so hilly that it's difficult to navigate on foot. The mid-levels escalators is pretty much a system of escalators and walkways to link everything together.

Even if we're not using the terrain aspect, I suppose it's possible to fluff it as some way to further separate the higher and lower levels of the hive world, to the point that people in the higher levels can go through their lives without once stepping down to the lower levels.

There's also this running gag/urban legend/maymay about Li Ka Shing (possibly the richest businessman in HK) being rich enough to repel typhoons, or at least weaken them enough so they don't disrupt business.

>>
>>45464029
Some ideas.
>Mining
among the other resources in the planets rock there are huge bubbles of almost pure pressurized oxygen. this is an important export and also allows the colony an ample supply.

ironically due to leakages from the industry the lower levels of the hive world have mostly breathable air, however there are many deaths from oxygen toxicity and/or defficiency.

> Hong Kong
recruits are drafted from tryadd-like organised crime. scouts are drafted from lower levels. a gang member is given a short sword by his gang on joining the gaurd, with distinct styles for each major gang. similar short swords are scattered in lower levels. to join the guard a lower level citizen must bring one to recruitment.

>tactics
focus on shock/ dazzle tactics. an example operation. scouts run ahead in relay report enemy positions. enemy are dropped through the floor using explosive charges, into a hail of fluorescent smoke bombs and cluster flash-bangs with guardsmen shooting from several elevations and angles.
>>
>>45473944
This shit is golden, I like all of it, especially the tactics. Only issue is that the recruitment pool is limited to firstborn sons, so you can't rely on mostly recruiting from gangers
>>
>>45473930
My memory's pretty fuzzy, but in HKGolden (think of it as our equivalent of 4chan) members there have a tradition of "betting" on things, in the line of "If ____ happens I'll cut off my dick"
It's mostly a joke since nobody would actually do it, but on that website it's seen as jinxing it, more or less.

Fluff-wise it could be something like attempting body mulitations to try to skew things in their favour, who knows.

Aside from that, superstitions mostly stems from traditional Chinese culture around here, stuff like Feng Shui and whatnot. Back then, the Bank of China building got quite a bit of criticism because it's angular structure is seen to disrupt the overall Feng Shui of the area.

In a side note, Guan Yu, the god of brotherhood, is worshipped by both gangs and cops.
>>
>>45474002
>attempting body mulitations to try to skew things in their favour

Or issuing a challenge, or a vow. Like, to kill a certain number of enemies before a campaign is over, otherwise I cut my balls off. It'd be an interesting way of ensuring fanaticism and giving the soldiers a competitive streak. They'd always be trying to one-up each other.

>Guan Yu, the god of brotherhood, is worshipped by both gangs and cops

An easy way of 40king that: Guan Yu is the local name for Ollanius Pius. He'd be patron saint of brothers in arms, representing selflessness and mutual aid, so both the gangers and cops would pay him tribute.

At the top you can fudge the paperwork, at the bottom its not like anybody keeps good records. Realistically, anybody of age that gets rounded up when its regiment raising time is going to be called a 1st born. Most of the genuine first borns are likely to be some of the nobility and the "middle classes".

>>45473873
>Even if we're not using the terrain aspect, I suppose it's possible to fluff it as some way to further separate the higher and lower levels of the hive world, to the point that people in the higher levels can go through their lives without once stepping down to the lower levels.

There's the ship wreckage, right? Assume it came in prow first at an angle and really drove right into the planet's surface. Given the length and sheer mass of Imperial ships, the corridors and passages along the length of the ship would suddenly become mountainous climbs. Even when the Mechanicus eventually strips it of all the useful gubbins, the buildings built into, onto and around the super structure would form a shell of its shape, likely up and along in an artificial mountain cliff. Less of a Hive Spire and more of a Hive Spur.
>>
Language-wise, while Cantonese is the de-facto way of speaking Chinese in HK, it's seen as an informal language that shouldn't be used in written Chinese (at least not formally, things like advertisements and tabloids do use written Cantonese)

HKers are pretty protective about Cantonese nevertheless, and attempts to replace Cantonese with Mandarin in say, schools are often met with strong backlash.

If you want, the language used in the lower hive world could be the equivalent of Cantonese, a language in its own right and protected (somewhat) fiercely by those who speak it, but ultimately seen as more informal or even vulgar by the authorites.
>>
>>45474230
speaking of languages di we ever decide if the languages from the last thread should be added?
>>
>>45474226
That could work, and don't forget that family and inheiritance are pretty important concepts in Chinese culture.

Hell, building human relationships and gaining favours more or less form the backbone in doing business and whatnot in China anyways. Want to start a business or nail yourself a good career without at least building some links? Good fucking luck.

It's probably worse in the mainland because of all the corruption going on, but I'm not going to pretend this kind of mindset doesn't exist around here either.
>>
>>45474226
>>45474273

How about this: Some noble houses pay to adopt lowerhive children in order to present them to tithing instead of their actual firstborn. They hold fighting tournaments and endurance contests to ensure the child they take in will be a good soldier for the Exterminators. This also promotes gang culture since they're competing for spots to become "bought firstborn" and support their families.

Other noble houses, however, go the opposite route and train their firstborn to be the finest officers that can be. This leads to an antagonism between houses as well as within the regiment, with nobles looking down on lower-born soldiers.
>>
>>45474325
It could work in that context, but in HK atheletes are frankly treated pretty badly (read: if you win awards for us that's awesome but don't expect us to support you financially) while education is a very competitive business.

Things like toddlers having to learn French/German/whatever foreign language and play a bunch of instruments when they're barely into Kindergarten, cram schools for Primary Schoolers, tutors in cram schools marketed like celebrities, things like that.

It probably stems from how examinations is the main method officials are chosen in ancient China, so Chinese culture have a strong emphasis in education (or at least learning how to git gud in exams)
>>
>>45473999
>>45474226
swords are hereditary heirlooms then.
>>
>>45474325
Could work.

I think we might be getting a bit too hung up on the specifics. Even assuming this is a small, not terribly old hive (at least in the grand scale of the Imperium), there's still a metric shitload of people crammed into what's still a giant area that's been potentially for longer than recorded civilisation has existed. It won't be a monoculture with just one language or one set of customs beyond the root civilisation developing from the original miner settlers and what's imposed from the top by the Imperium.

Maybe we should focus on Regiments as a way to look into specific slices of the hive? Some colonels might prefer to recruit from just one population for the skills. Just as an example off the top of my head you could have Akira style biker gangs who fight over one of the few clear, relatively unpopulated stretches of the hive in the reactor vents, air and sewage pipes forming into de facto rough Rider/mobile scouts. Very insular and strange compared to the rest of the hivepop, and potentially a source of inter-gang squad strife, but useful to keep as a single unit. Other colonels might prefer to mix hivers from all levels and break them down into one family (You are all my sons and daughters, and you will fight at my side or die).
>>
>>45474391
Hence why some noble houses prefer to buy their way out of the military and send their firstborn to the Administratum instead. But some would still see the Guard as a good career option and prepare their children for it in a hyperfocused way.
>>
>>45474585
Makes sense, if being a guard is dressed up as a good career option then people'd push their kids hard towards that route.

Likewise, HKers are often stereotyped as flexible people who won't waste any opportunities to score a bargain, so I'd see our boys here as being very pragmatic about things.

You know, as a very strange aside.

I once had an idea for a 40K story where there's this small empire based off China under Qin Shihuang. Like, they have a Byzantine, very decadent, very corrupt system aided by an insane amount of Dark Age gear that they treat religiously.

The Great Wall would be the Geller fields that encase each kingdom and protect it from the Warp on all sides, and the story would end with them being swallowed back up by the Warp again.

Anyways, these guys are Nid killing cyberpunk chinese right?
Well how big are they on augmentation?

And a shitty jive world like there's is bound to have motherfuckers that they can press into service, so they could have tons of penal units, guys they can strap bomb collars on and rush into a nest to flush the 'stealers out.

So the world is full of Neon, and outside the Hive is nothing but barren waste? I don't know why but I feel Holy Promethium should be big in their armament, and their flamers (due to atmospheric conditions) fire multicolored neon flame.

As for the other points, for augmentation we have glowing tatoos and reflective eyes but that's about it. You can go nuts man. The planet isn't super big one the whole "criminal justice system" since it's pretty corrupt, but I'm sure they press many a middle-tier men
>>

Maybe instead of multicolored individual stuff we can have
>recruits primarily drawn from gangs
>each gang controls a different mine for a different gas
>when recruits join the ranks their gang give them "homemade" weapons (flamers, lasguns, etc) made using the gang-specific gas and insignas and such
>as a result gang A's flamers, lasguns, etc will fire pink stuff, gang B will fire blue stuff, etc
>those troops are incorporated in mixed squads (everyone has the same uniform (except the shoulder piece) but the weapons mostly differ in origin)
>result is disco shootouts where 100 guardsmen fire pink, 100 fire blue, 100 fire green, etc but all mixed together

>>45475634
Unless they start hacking heretics skulls i don't think many but the most uptight would say something about their war trophies that wrong. Maybe more like a headache for the quartermasters.

The differently colored flamethrowers and lasguns could be argued that the troopers, at least in regards to flamethrowers, add a bit of neon and other gasses to change colors. Commisar could highly discourage using pink for the flamethrowers when fighting against heretics to avoid friendly fire.

Considering how crazy some regiments go (notice the ears and the skull on that middle soldier's shoulder pad), xenos trophies would be rather mild. The only concern I can think of is actually using tyranid blades in battle - I think that's technically heretical.

The only stuff I really know about HK comes from Sleeping Dogs, but I think some of the music in that game might fit with the regiment, even if it's not like Mega Drive or anything.

>>
Hey guys. I wrote this last night but /tg/ quit working for me, couldn't post. Wasn't sober so it's probably full of typos, so here's an apology in advance. It's a short flavor piece with a Mary Sue guardsman, maybe not sufficiently grimdark.

>The underhive signage vibrated and flickered. Its harsh purple glow cast Private Hsien’s shadow down the hall as he stepped through the hab unit’s open door and into the waiting darkness. Hsien could almost taste the shadows – there was something palpable in the air, vaguely electric, and it wasn’t the usual stench of the lower levels. Outside of the narrow column of sickly neon light seeping past his body, the room was abnormally dark. The guardsman silently raised his lasrifle to his shoulder, readying his finger on the trigger, and dropped to a crouch. He swore softly under his breath, cursing the eternal hum of the underhive core. He couldn’t hear a thing, and didn’t dare step back outside. He was being watched.
>In one quick motion, Hsien dropped his left hand, activating his adrena-kit and snatching the grenade from his belt. The “Hua Yuan Special” chirped briefly as he pressed the cycle button and tossed it underhand. There was no detonation when it met the floor, but a split second later the ‘nade projected a myriad of bright lights in every direction, each thin line tracing a random pinpoint pattern as it danced across the walls. The grenade simultaneously flashed a single bright white light once and began to emit a steady stream of shimmering pink smoke. The darkness was illuminated for a brief moment, and Hsien could see the creatures – a half dozen hunched, twisted figures with inhuman shapes, waiting in the far corners of the room. Blinded, each hissed, but Hsien was already moving. He blasted one creature’s head straight from its shoulders, a bit of gore splattering across its partners’ faces, then ducked, rolling into the shadows just as the monstrous abominations sprang into action.
>>
>>45478156

>The creatures may have been raised in the dark, but they were no match for Hua Yuan’s finest in the thick fluorescent smoke. As the Special’s bright tracer lines spun around the room and pierced through the haze, Hsien used them to judge the distance of each creature. He blasted the nearest two in quick succession – one crashing to the ground as its knee evaporated, the other left clutching what was left of its face. The three survivors were almost on him now, but Hsien was ready. As the first creature reached out to grab him, he fired into its chest at point blank. The body fell away, still grasping towards him futilely, and Hsien bashed another with the butt of his gun and it, too, collapsed. The private felt a clawed hand tear across his shoulder, but the adrenaline mixture pumping through his veins dulled the pain. He spun on one heel, ducking a second swing, and downed the creature with two quick shots to the abdomen. The private didn’t allow himself a second to catch his breath. The xenos he’d bunted earlier was getting back up, and he couldn’t allow that. He screamed and unleashed a volley of orange las bolts, cutting it in half at the waist. As if the Emperor himself were directing the show, the Special ended its routine just as the cultist’s upper body slid to the floor. Hsien couldn’t help but grin – not a bad performance, all things considered.

Guys. GUYS.

I have an idea. So a small group of super human fighters that knock the shit out of Nids wherever they pop up.

I'm thinking two things. Either a group of psyker monks seeking oneness with the Emperor through meditation. Ass kicking is just a necessity.

OR Astartes. Their chapter decimated, hounded my the Inquisition and stricken from imperial record for an unspeakable fuck up these handful of marines, barred from power armour and weaponry, seek to atone in the Emperor's eyes for the crimes of their former chapter.

Shaolin theme either way

The Shaolin part would be a division of the Ecclesiarchy where they take in cool-headed dudes and train them into martial artists with a penchant for melee weapons with build-in flamers (Power Fists with Flamers!).

They are used as both traditional Priests, as well as fighters that take out the big guns in CQC (like Tyranid Warriors).

I don't think there should be much kung fu at all. These guys specialize in Tyranids, cant really fist fight giant bugs with razor claws

Don't tell that to Sargent Lee

Fair enough.

That's just the Ecclesiarchal presence in the world.

The Exterminators are still 80's cyberpunk /k/ fetish fuel. That being said if we're organizing them like corrupt cops/a triad they should probably have teams.

Like a unit with the psychedelic flamers, a unit that is dedicated to sealing sections off and gassing the joint, a swat/siege team etc

What about power fists?

Is there a cheap IG equivalent?

The Ecclesiarchy has millions of cults and sub-cults. A good part of the job of conversion is working through native beliefs and fitting them into the existing canon. A semi-militant monastic order focused around meditation and kicking the shit out of evil is entry level compared to some of the cults brought into the faith, let alone fringe ones like the Red Redemption.

If its anything like real history you would probably have High Ecclesiastics imported by nobles families who are the closest thing to "normal" Imperial clerics to do masses (and its probably a fashion thing, as much as anything - look at us, we got a guy from San Louer! Yeah, well, ours has been to Terra!). In the mid-hive you would have later generation priests who have been brought up and trained in native schools and seminaries. They know the local saints and legends, they know how to speak the local dialects best, and they practice a balance between local beliefs and standard dogma. At the hive bottom you would have a mixture of the hardcore evangelists from off-world and from seminary, as well as the old timey religions and the weird faiths that are too small and localised to be fully stamped down on - the snake handler type equivalents, the ghetto preacher, the religious community that's deliberately gone out into the wilderness or among the poor to escape the decadence of the High Church.

There's potentially thousands of cults and millions of priests on the planet. To give you some idea, as of 2012, there's 414,313 Catholic Priests in our world of 7 billion. Just RC priests, not counting catholic religious orders of monks and nuns, or lay people involved with the church. If you draw equivalence between the Catholic Church and the Imperial Space Papacy, there's enough people on this hive world for suitably insane "standard" Ecclesiarchs as any number of punchy eastern monk religions.

Might as well

Tacticool weapons, HK comedy film style.

By the way, the humble foldable stool has been seen as the ultimate brawl fight weapon, because of it's verstability and the fact that nobody would notice it until someone picks it up to whack someone else in the face with it.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. We never really establish how many men are in th regiment, but I would reckon these teams would be 15-25 people, and there would be 4 or so in a platoon and so on

Among the Hua Yuan 1st Exterminator Regiment members, there is a small group of strange individuals that at first glance don't fit into the regiment.

The Hua Yuan branch of the Ecclesiarchy has a sub-division of warrior monks known for their fanatical approach to close combat. These so called Hua Dragon Monks are a type of enemy not even the most dangerous heretics would want to fight against up close.

Armed with nothing more but simple robes, spartan training, an adamantine will that even psykers found incredibly difficult to break and an arsenal of melee weapons with build-in flamers, the Hua Dragon Monks can often make a difference when they enter the battlefield while bringing the Emperor's wrath.

Commanders from other Imperial forces noted on how efficient these monks are in close combat. One holo-video even presented one veteran monk punching through a Tyranid Warrior with hardly any difficulty.

The monks, just like their fellow guardsmen, include neon and tattoos into their clothing as an act of solidarity and camaraderie, but combine this with their simple clothing. The guardsmen themselves have utter respect for the monks courage (and somewhat fear of their fanaticism).

>this foreign hive was in open rebellion, first company exterminator veterans infiltrated the under hive to root out the source. I have them working like a gang rubbing out an enemy boss, demonstrating how they appear ti their foes

I have lived in the underhive for longer than most, and am one of the few survivors of restoration movement. We mutants and outcasts had gather arms and numbers for years under Boss Toad. Boss Toad's rituals made us green and near impossible to kill, when we declared open rebellion against the hive lords we were unstoppable, or so we thought. We had heard a company of hive warfare specialist had been brought from off world. We remained arrogant in our might as we tore through PDF and arbites with our number and toughness. Boss Toad made more green ones every day. The day after Boss Toad set up his headquarters in the captured water treatment plant we thought we had won. Boss Toad began to work a spell on the hive water supply that would ensure our victory he said. Then as we roared in victory the world exploded in a haze of brightness and furious colors. Then figures dripping the same ooze of colors repelled through the windows spewing light blue flames I saw Boss Toad flee in the cross fire to his captured chimera. These blazing blurs of pink and green didn't even pursue the Boss, and detonating more of their sound and fury disappeared as soon as they arrived. The haze clear just soon enough that I watched Boss Toad start the armoured vehicle and I could see it explode in flare of pink. Our might brought low by car bomb the rebellion falter without leadership and we lost our source of green ones.

I'm frankly not too keen on the name (slap dragon on it and then it's sufficiently Chinese? Really?)

If you want something a bit more…wuxia-sounding then check out the wuxia novels, Jin Yong's works are the most popular of the genre.

Makes sense. Lots of organized gangs organize things on family lines and only allow certain races of people in, to help make it more internal and emphasize the importance of the group. The Mafia is an obvious example.

How about Jade Flame Monks of Hua?
>>
>>45479804
It'd probably be something that they'd learn as part of gang fighting growing up, since most people wouldn't use guns.

Sort of like how the Vostroyans have their own martial arts, even if there's obviously not much use for them.

>>45479867
Can't sergeants still be equipped with them?

>>45479872
I remember in real history, there was a monk named Matteo Ricci who travelled to Bejing and founded a church there, and did some travelling around China. If I remember right, he tried to work local Buddhist and Chinese beliefs into Christianity, especially ideas of the Lord of Heaven, and approved of veneration of the dead.

His approach wasn't approved of by the Vatican - they felt he appropriated too many Chinese believes - but in 40k, whose to say a not-Ricci would do a pretty good job?

碧炎派 then?

>>45480474
Well if we're bringing in the pilgrimages and stuff, then I'd have to bring up this

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiping_Heavenly_Kingdom

To start off, the leader of the rebellion claimed to be the brother of Jesus.
Go figure.
>>
>>45480621
I thought about bringing that up, but I figured it was a little radical, and it's harder to work their beliefs in since their leader wanted to make sure there was equal shares of good and bad land for everybody and everybody was strongly Puritan Christian.

And we don't seem to be going with anything really communist, and the Communist party saw the Taiping revolution as a spiritual progenitor to their own. Sure, it doesn't really matter, but you can see where they got the idea.
>>
>>45480691
I should clarify - equal land for everybody doesn't make sense on a hive on a death world, and claiming to be related to the Emperor sounds heretical. It might make for a fun cult?
>>
>>45480621
>碧炎派 then?
Close, but fitting still.
>>
>>45480716
Maybe that was the first time the regiment saw action, putting down the __ rebellion that started in the lower levels, where he claimed to be the second coming/rebirth/long lost son of the Emperor
>>
>>45480716
maybe claim relation to a primarch's foster family, less heretical but still very holy
>>
>>45480828
I think that would require knowledge of history lost after 10,000 years. Not like most primarchs aside from Gulliman had foster families.

I think it'd be better to put it as heretical. Sorry. The Ricci idea kind of fits with the missionaries already in the fluff.

Its easy enough to adapt him to 40k too.

The Missionary Elect Matthias Ricco and his entourage arrived shortly after contact was re-established with the Imperium to assess the local belief systems for signs of heretical deviance and, wherever possible, to realign them with Imperial dogma. Despite criticism from certain puritanical factions within the sub-sector's Ecclesiarchical council that his reforms to Hua Yuan's animist, ancestor worshiping pre-Imperial faith went nowhere near far enough, time has proven Ricco's work a success. The great mining clans regularly support the work of clerical missions into deephive to ensure purity of belief. In the aftermath of the Tyranid invasion and the subsequent cleansing of large populated spaces with flame and melta, many new churches and cathedrals have been built in the newly cleared spaces. It is darkly suggested that the overzealous application of promethium in some parts of the hive that were less affected by the Tyranids had less to do with alien purging and more to clear space for noble building projects

Ricco himself is often portrayed as a saint in Hua Yuan iconography, clad in the traditional robes and simple rebreather of native monks and carrying the lit flamer of knowledge.
